Reviews of Pima Canyon Trailhead
Michelle Herd
At first, the trail is long, and there are not many nice desert views. Once you get off National and loop onto Mormon or Hidden Valley, the scenery starts to get pretty. The rock formations look like giant mushrooms. When coming to the Hidden Valley - Fat Man loop crossing the trail is questionable then once you figure it out you get to boulders you have to figure out as well. It's a good 6 almost 7 mile hike, I say 7 if you get off course. Bring tons of water, shoes with tread, and dog friendly.
John Payne
South Mountain is hands down my favorite hiking area in Phoenix. There are so many different trails to chose from, ranging from easy to strenuous. I’ve hiked almost all of them, but National trail, from east to west, is my favorite. There are many parking locations, so you should always be able to find access to whatever trail you want. The views from the top are unparalleled and the best in the valley. Highly recommended for residents, newcomers and visitors. Just be sure to adequately prepare and have fun!
Jenny P
Avoid during the weekend, it gets packed and parking is hard to find. Weekday mornings are the best. During spring, summer (if you dare), fall, bring extra water, better to be safe than sorry. Keep an eye out for rattlesnakes as it gets warmer, I've seen them on the trail before. There are lots of trails to choose from at Pima. May I also suggest hats and cooling long sleeves, there is almost no shade so be careful to not get heat exhaustion.
Nicolas Epling
Easy to reach trailhead with tons of parking but still will fill up quickly on the weekends so get there early or when the early people start to leave around 9. Lots of different trails that cross each other so you can mix and match for a new experience. Pretty clean, let's keep it that way!
Emily Rouse
Easy path for beginners and novices. There were harder paths for more experienced hikers. Seems like a very popular spot. They were very filled up in the parking spots near the trails around 9 am on Saturday and Sunday in the end of March. Bring lots of water!
Trail Sage
If you are looking for a good mountain bike ride in the Phoenix area I highly recommend checking out the National Trail. The gnar is top notch and the views are incredible!
The climb at the start will require a high level of fitness to clear, but once at the top it will all be worth it. We did a 18 mile out and back and found the trails to be challenging but also a ton of fun.
Note: The National Trail is NOT for beginners. The tech is advanced level in some spots and the exposure is real!
Formica Gilbert
This is my second time hiking here in AZ. We took one of the trails that goes up behind the parking lot and it is no joke. However, it was fun. The scenery is great. Obviously, I stopped 10 times to take it all in and take some great pictures. It was quite cool and windy, which is a blessing for someone who is from a cooler climate. We will be going back to one of many other hiking trails and hope to see the archeological sites, birds and fauna, etc. I would recommend this trail to everyone.
J Leckman
One of my favourite places to hike in the Phoenix area. Can be very busy on weekends, so either come early or try mid week. There are washrooms at the trailhead. Today we hiked Mormon Loop, Fat Man's pass, Hidden Valley trails....this is a nice loop, about 7 miles, with only about 1100 feet of elevation gain.
Amanda Hunter
Third day in a row while visiting AZ, this trail offers so many options. Hike, trail run or hike these diverse hills. See some historical markings and more.

The Pima Canyon Trailhead is a start (or an end) to 315 miles of nationally acclaimed trails, popular with hikers and cyclists alike. It boasts beautiful views from the ramada and other shade structures. Educational signs show interesting facts about the local fauna, historic petroglyphs, maps of the local trail system, as well as important safety instructions. (Bring plenty of water!) There are occasionally timely signage as well, such as the caution about local bees busily collecting nectar while pollinating the trees and bushes. Local wildlife is easy to spot, and commonly seen both on the trails and around the trailhead.
Amenities include water fountains for people and pets, sturdy bathrooms including family-friendly stalls, a handwashing station with automatic soap dispenser, and plenty of shade with places to sit. Several trash and recycling disposal bins provide convenient places to dispose of refuse, and dispensers provide plastic bags to help clean up after pets. Parking is available and generally ample, though availability is limited during peak times. There is also parking along the way from the park gate to the trailhead.

This is a great place to park and start. Whether you’re biking, hiking, or jogging. There’s lots of different paths. Definitely look for the the Fat man’s pass, Hidden Valley tunnel, and couple of stone houses.
Amanda Annette
This is my favorite trailhead in Phoenix. There are flushing toilets and a water filling station. There are multiple difficulty rating of trails so there is something for every ability. The beginning of the trail is flat enough that a manual wheelchair can be used if pushed by someone else(I personally have done this)but you won't be able to go super far in. Very dog friendly.
C Harbeson
This trail is well-maintained and clean. Stunnings views and beautiful desert terrain. Compatible for hiking and mountain biking, both groups are respectful of the other. Also open to leashed dogs. (Please clean up after him/her!) Many trail options from easy to moderately difficult. The trailhead restrooms are clean. The only drawback is there may be difficulty finding a place to park. You may have to "hike" from your parked car to the trailhead!
Albert David Guillen
I have a friend there in the valley and when I’m in town we straight hike!! Love this trail and love how it’s really centrally located. You can have a good hike and equally good shift if you’re on the way to work as well! So awesome here really good vibes and lots of space
Jeff Beaty
This is by far top 3 hiking areas in the Phoenix metro area. Has restrooms, water and usually plenty of parking. During peak times arrive early to get parking. Has a great variety of trails for beginners and advanced alike. Great for night hiking as well.
Khary Carroll
An amazing experience! New hiker here from Philly. Once you defeat your first steep incline, you're hooked for life! I would encourage any new individual to find an experienced hiker and take you through some trails.
ietaka hayashi
We are from Taiwan Innocence Project. This afternoon, we went hiking at Pima canyon trailhead before leaving Phoenix. What a gorgeous landscape it is! We will be back in the future. Thank you all from this pretty state and friendly people.
Gypsy Rose
Beautiful and multiple trails for easy/moderate/hard hikes or mountain bikes.
**plz do not subject your pets to high temp hikes 🐾 …
Laine McNeil
Great place for a bike or bike ride during the winter when the weather provides very nice temps for daytime activities!
Trail maps readily available online through several apps, and navigation is very easy.
Seems to have the best views towards sunset, when the colors light up the sky to the west and the flora responds with the red, orange and yellow hues.
Location is great for easy access with a generous parking area, as well!
Arun Rohila
So many trails for every age and great views. Nice to have restrooms and plenty of parking during the weekdays.
Kelly B
Awesome selection of various trails, from easy to hard. Beautiful during wildflower season. We loved it.
Norman Begay (Snoman)
Great place to hike, very friendly people also hiking and very beautiful view no matter witch patch you choose to hike. Great place to let go of any stress or just to work out even go for a run.
Ryan Armbrust
Plenty of parking, great bathroom facility, clean water bottle filler, shaded seating area, good signs, just overall a well thought out trailhead.
Glenn Schlottman
Good local access to the east side of South Mountain. There are several trail options that are more suited for mt bike riders and runners. Plan for a 5-8 mile hike for the best views. Parking can be limited at peak times in the warmer months. Beware of golf balls if you park or hike near the golf course.
Ivy G
A lot of different trails there’s one for everyone. Cool views of the city.
Michael Clark
Amazing 315 trail in Maricopa County. Didn't hike or bike at this moment but there were many people taking advantage of the cooler Phoenix weather.
Gretchen McCarthy
Easy trails to what looked like more challenging trails.
Lots of scenery. Interesting history.
Walkers, runners, bikes, and dogs.
Christopher Stanley
A sure shot place to meet the diverse wildlife of this region- includes coyotes, roadrunner, javelinas, rattlesnakes and the owls and horned lizards
Scott Parker
Plenty of parking even on a beautiful busy Saturday. Nice restrooms and drinking water available at the trailhead. Excellent biking and hiking trails.
Rachal
This place is beautiful! We hiked for a couple of hours through the South Mountain Park and Preserve today and this place doesn't disappoint. Absolutely breathtaking views of Phoenix from the top of the mountains. Saw many animals on our hike as well. Make sure to bring a couple liters of water with you.. Highly recommended 👌👍👏 …
Eric Rauch
Great trail options with something for everyone. From a short stroll to a strenuous scramble.
RiloMan9
Great area for hiking near the city, all the trails interconnect which is nice. Beautiful views but limited shade so don't forget to bring plenty of water!
Ellie Cruz
We love to hike here, now it's also a favorite for metal detecting for my kid.
We love hiking to the petroglyphs, And exploring. Be sure to bring water.
Steve Gasser
Love this trail. Starts easy then you can decide how hard of a trail to take
Gerald Keller
Lots of nice vistas on the Ridgeline trail. The trail is well marked and maintained.
karisma doughty
It's quite lovely. There are many trails and a variety of levels of hikes available.
It is very popular and parking is difficult on the weekends. I recommend visiting during the week if possible.
Deanna Renbarger
Good easy hike for us (i have a 3yr old) it was perfect
Jennifer Knorr
Great network of trails! Lots of options for all hiking levels, including the furry four-legged hikers 😊 Very interesting and diverse landscape; however, not much for shade. Great for mountain biking as well! Sufficient parking, and the restroom facilities are very nice. …
Foodtruck Time
Heavily trafficked trail system and south Phoenix. Part of the South Mountain recreation area which includes several parking areas this one being Pima Canyon. Parking lot may hold around 30 cars with side street parking on the driveway coming up. No fee when I was here gate closes at seven but you can stay till 11. Talk about amazing! Lots and lots of cool things to see. Tons of different types of trails like dry washes flat walking hiking up a decent size call ridge line trail. Public restrooms water fountains shaded Ramada’s benches. Can’t say enough about these trails But I’ll stop here for now
William Blasius
Mountain biking on the desert classic. Learned to drink a ton of water before riding. It was 80F out and I burned through a full camel back in 8 miles and was still thirsty. Some of the scenery is just beautiful. Great trailhead facilities.
Michael Ziemelis
Great park that has an extensive network of trails. Well kept restrooms at trailhead. Highlights among many include an old stone homestead at the end of Pima canyon dirt road (1.3mi one way) and fat Man’s pass off of National.
When enjoying this amazing area please remember to be respectful and pack out what you bring in so the area can be clean and beautiful for all.
Teresa and Ed Pridmore
Hiked with several families. The path is wide much of the trail we hiked. Beautiful! "Frog on a log" was code for our large group to move to one side as bikes were coming 😀. Everyone shared the trail well. …
Michael Farmer
Great hike! We saw a pack of 7-12 coyotes.
Steven Williams
Lots of parking. Lots of hikes with pretty accurately rated routes. A bit heavily visited at the end of weekdays but the foot and bike traffic is pretty well spread out.
Hannah
Lot of walking trails.Beautiful view of Arizona mountains!#Springflowers
Minerva Hendrix
I love this mountain! There are many trails to choose from; from easy to very difficult depending of your experience level. However, regardless of your physical abilities, this is a great place for meditation and self-awareness. Enjoy!
Sam S
Great small and medium trails for everyone!
Benjamin CODAllday
There is a huge network of trails for hiking and mountain biking that stem from this trail head. You can find all levels of difficulty in terms of steep hikes or technical bike routes like the Mormon loop. Or if you want a relaxing stroll and beautiful sights and awesome rock formations, there are trails for that too. People are friendly and bikers look out for hikers, so it's good for everyone! Get out and enjoy this weather (all these pics are of South mountain)
Dave
Pima Canyon trails are located in the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson, Arizona. There are countless trails to navigate. The Pima Canyon hiking trails in the South Mountain Park gives you a lot of variety. The Pima Canyon area hikes of the park range from easy to moderate. I hiked the moderate ones this time. Gorgeous skyline views. How much vegetation but plenty of cactus. Hike early in the morning and bring plenty of water.
jay
My favorite place to go hiking. Great trails, history, and wild life. Lots of rabbits, lizards, Road Runners,, pheasants, and occasional coyote sightings. All types of hikes ranging from easy to hard. Summertime, you will come across snakes under bushes and rocks. DON"T TAKE YOUR PETS OUT WHEN IT REACHES 100!!! I have seen way to may people carry down pets that have collapsed and unconscious from over heating.
Carlos Colon
Very easy going trails and fun loops can take many different paths to different adventures.....easy to moderate mountain biking on this side also love this place....
Lawrence Mandarino
If you just want to enjoy the Sonoran desert, this is a great hike that can be as easy or hard as you choose. Been running and hiking there for over 50 years.
jose r.
Great Trail with awesome views once you get to some of its mountain tops.. I highly recommend it, the trail has all kind of levels from beginners to the most skilled hikers. Family & Dog friendly..
Gilberto Cecena
Average to moderate hike. Not as scenic as some other trails on south mountain are but definitely still a good workout. Cool looking ruins or man made I'm not sure. Overall i love hiking south mountain i feel its much more of a hike than most and good for all ages
Zack Williams
Some of the best hiking the valley has to offer. Plenty of well-maintained, designated trails to explore and lots of beauty and wildlife to see. Great facilities and enough challenging hikes to make for an excellent outdoor gym. Skip the treadmill, throw on some trail runners, and come experience the beauty and wonder of this awe-inspiring place. Take the time to slow down along the way, breathe, and take in the totality of what’s happening in and around you.
Be blessed and whole 🙏
Rudolph Nartker
Loved the hike. It was a good ouch crowded but the trail head is pretty close to everyone so it's convenient and easy to hike. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something more adventurous than a walk around the neighborhood.

#lempirahikeswithbeautythebeast
Great trail but way too many people!! Wear ur mask if you plan on hitting this trail...is moderate u can pretty much run on this trail which is nice
Michael Reeves
Great trails for running, hiking or mountain biking. Quite challenging as I ran it and came back on the ridge after going out on the Dessert Challenge loop. Quads are going to be toast tomorrow. One of the more technical trails I have run but pretty well marked. The panoramas are from Observation Point.
SpartanTurtle
Pima canyon has many trails to choose from, I've done about half of them. this is a great starting point to see some incredible views.
from several trails you can see Phoenix and Tempe at the same time and it looks incredible especially when the sun starts to go down.
The trails are mostly friendly for pets, most of the trails are kid friendly, and there are also many bike trails here.
Pima canyon offers a little bit for everybody
Brad Larson
Great MTB and hiking spot. I come hear weekly to ride National Trail. There is a lot of trail options from the trail head. If you want to take a stroll though the desert without to much elevation go with Desert Classic. But if you want some really nice views of Phoenix then take National Trail or one of the many connecting trails to National. If you are hiking the best way to experience National Trail in my opinion is to go up Mormon Trail then loop back down using National Trail. If you are riding then when you link back on to National keep heading west past the waterfall up to the saddle. Good spot to take a break then head back the direction you came taking National all the way back to Pima Canyon.
Ryan B.
I Visit South Mountain Several Times a week just hadn't gotten to this spot till today and I was Pleasantly Suprised! Always Enjoy Free Parking, I think there's a large number of spots in comparison to most the other trailheads. SHADE under these Ramada type deals with tables to Sit at, Very VeryNice, everything seemed Very Clean, multiple trailsto Pick from ,really no serious complaints with other trailheads were similar to this. ENJOY
Nicole Nanny
Love this beautiful space for easy to challenging hikes. Something for everyone. This trailhead has restrooms and drinking water. Dogs and mountain bikes are a common site. The views are amazing!
Josh J
Great place for a beginner hike on the Pima Canyon or Desert classic trail or a longer, more advanced hike on Marcos De Niza or up National Trail. One 0f the best hiking spots in AZ right in the heart of the valley.
Jim Chodzinski
South Mountain Park has few "challenges" for experienced hikers but is almost always enjoyable under 105°F .
Yolanda es
Az ShoWIng off !!
Doug Hartman
Some very nice hiking with a great view of the city, mostly pretty easy with a few steep and rocky spots. Alot of different path to choose from.
I wish I would have brought my bike too!
Kat Ware
Really nice hiking and biking spot, can be easy or hard depending on which trail you take, good views and lots of parking
Erika Pike
Lots of different trails for all levels of experience. There isn't a lot of shade on this mountain so make sure to bring sunscreen and wear a hat
Michael Pham
From San Diego, exploring PHX. After a few searches, this location came up for Mountain Biking. The trail in particular i'm going to talk about is Desert Classic (DC) Trail... Foodie in me likes to think of it as Dessert Classic.
I would consider this trail to be great for beginners. The trails are clearly marked with signs and arrows "DC". For the first 7 miles if you are doing the out and back from Pima Canyon South Entrance - it's Basic/Beginner. The 7-8 can be moderately technical, so you will run into this when you come back. Trail flows very well, wide enough for 2 way and hiking traffic. It can be fast, with rolling drop/climbs from the washes from time to time. I would recommend going early if its warm out and fill your water carrier to the max. There is really no shade here so expect to be exposed the entire ride. Terrain varies from packed, loose, gravel, and rock gardens more between mile 6-12. It's nice because there is no excessive climbs - mild descend and climbs in averaging in 2% range. On a Saturday morning around 8am (~80degrees), until we returned around 10am (95degrees) in first week of May - however with a heat wave 2018. We still crossed paths with a few people, not a lot that i would say its crowded - but enough to get help if you needed it haha.
I know there are other more advanced trails that branch of from DC that i'd like to visit next time we're in town.
Parking lot isn't that large, but there is one side street parking on the entrance. Tons of open space that look to be good for exploring either HIKE or BIKE - Cheers and Have fun!
Hum Wishdom
This is my favorite place to go hiking while staying in Phoenix. The trails are extensive, the rocks are beautiful and there is enough shrubbery and trees to not be exposed to the brutal desert.
This place has a lot of life in it, unlike the barran rocky parks in other locations nearby. There is hardly any trash to notice and people with dogs use leases. There were also lots of hikers and runners in groups and the trails here are diverse: a mix of sand, rock climbing and running.
This is my go-to place to enjoy nature while in Phoenix.
Michael Edward Bradstreet
Tryin' to get my climbing back in order, I've been doing lot's of grade pulling on tarmac, vocational trailer hauling and medium speed cruising.
But if you want to learn how to climb desert washes with a gravel bike, the south mountain valley is a good place to start - but leave the ridgeline alone.. .mostly.
Chrissy G
Very busy, even during the week. Walkers & bikers galore. Dog friendly. Many trail options. Beautiful views.
Culmination of Health
Nice fairly challenging hike without having to leave the city!
Russell Swinhart
Great trail head, was surprised to see parking. Bet that won't last. Good loops and facilities.
ICTV
This is a good easy trail to take beginners on. I have not completely explored the trails at South Mountain but there is no real easy loop from this trail. It seems like you go from zero to sixty in 1.2 seconds. Keep riding!
Chad Anderson
This trailhead is amazing. I still continue to find new trails to attack and make my hike interesting. The Ahwatukee area / south mountain is an amazing time for all the outdoor hiking needs. It seems they are still building the over hangs for parking, as well at the bottom the entrance is closed so it's about a half mile up before reaching the actual trailhead. #hikingUP
Moira McElwain
It's an easy trail for beginers. It's a wide sandy/rocky path. Near the end of the trail are the stone buildings you can see. There is also a bench at the end of the path if you need a rest. For a while the city is out of sight and it's like you are far away. I enjoyed this location and will explore more of South mountain soon.
Warren Bobinski
Fantastic hike with enough elevations and options of trails - excellent views and hard to go wrong on a beautiful day!
Relentless Dreams Brand
What amazing trail. The way they have customized this area has turned out beautifully.. Love the paths / trails and how far they extended those out.. Can't wait to explore more... #Phx
John Eyre
Great trails and easy to get to!
Very popular too it seemed!!
Petrona Zickgraf
Pretty wide open spaces for hiking. Stay low in the wash or go higher on the ridges. Spectacular view of Phoenix and Tempe from the ridge. As always, bring lots of water.
kris rogers
Awesome trail head to set off on any hiking or mountain biking adventures. Highly recommend. If your new desert classic. If you want a bit of a challenge try javelina to Beverly back to the parking lot. It's a blast!
Joe Steele
Always a good place to hike. Fairly easy trail. We host monthly social group for individuals with special needs and every one always has a great time...I do recommend winter mor ing hikes as in the summer it can get hot and dusty
Riyan Khaliqi
Very beautiful city views. Hiked there multiple times, great for mountain biking.
Pritchard O'houlihan
Used to live Right next to this Pima trailhead and I absolutely love it. I now live about 15 minutes away by car but I still throw my bike on the bike carrier and make my way here usually once a week. It's my favorite trailhead
mario barrios
Cool place, no horse parking, trails are busy, horse trail pathways are maintained, lots of trails to choose from, lots of wildlife
Kim Richmeier
Nice easy 3 mile hike. I did cross paths with a Rattlesnake today. 1st time in over 30 years
trsd2009
Very nice park. Has public rest rooms. Clean lots of parking. Good for climbing and hiking
Jon Halter
Lots of fun with lots of hiking options of various difficulties.
B Bayrak
Trails here range from almost level and easy to devilishly difficult. We like the moderate elevation trails of East and West Loops. These trails take you to the edges of the mountain where you can see the sharp contrast of town and nature preserve. There are some saguaro cactus but not many.
Devon Mills
Great hike, great trail, just watch your timing as it gets dark real quick as the sun sets behind the mountain.
Geetha Somarouthu
It's a relatively easy hike! But there are some areas with loose rocks so just be careful
Edward Coveyduck
A really gentle put and back or you can easily turn it into a loop but following the river bed for your return leg. Always something to see and plenty of people to keep you company.
Danie
just moved here from illinois and i loved my hike. completely different from the flatter land im use to. plus, im still a beginner, and a bit overweight but it was easy enough for me!! will be back
Wes H
The upgrade on the road, parking lot, and restroom facilities is really nice. Great place to start your hike.
Gayla Martell
You have a lot of different trails to choose from at this trailhead. You can hike a mile or many miles starting here.
Dave Jones
Great hiking around here with so many trails to choose from. One of my favorite places to hike closer to town.
Beth Richardson
Awesome place to visit while in town on vacation! Definitely will get your Cactus feel, lol. Scenic views!
Sam
Great place all around. Tons of trails and a great view of the valley. You can see all the way past Tempe from one of the peaks.
Esperanza Aguilar
Saw two snakes going up this side today at 1240pm one was scared and went under a rock the other was alot bigger. I was trail running so ran by and saw it and ran even faster, kinda scary.
Alyssa Hanlon
Great set of hikes for all levels and great views. Long distance or short walks you choose.
John Dingledine
Well marked trails lots of options for routes. Great views from the top. You can do a nice Loop
Kari Infantino
Pima Canyon is a fabulous hiking area in the South Mountain Preserve which is 17,000 Acres south of Baseline and west of 48th Street. It's got a lovely dirt road that goes all the way up to a Stone House. There are other trails that lead off in many directions and you can hike for days in that area. The visitor area has newly been remodeled and has running water and flush toilet with a sink in the bathrooms. There are plenty of structures that provide shade and seating areas for visitors who come from all over the world. They've expanded the parking area so it should accommodate at least 50 spaces. It closes at 7 p.m. so you need to be out of the park by then. I highly recommend this valuable wonderful hiking area on South Mountain
Chikku Baiju
Nice quick hike that is just enough challenging with great views of the city on all sides.
Juan Rodriguez Medina
Great place for a nice hike! And clean restrooms!
Mark Radford
Great hiking location. Lots of bike trails and great views of the value.
JB Fletcher
Drove out here for a trail run. Lots of trail options. Go to the ridgeline trail for some great views of phoenix and tempe. The parking lot was packed but once i got out, i was alone in many of the sections sections
T M
There are many different hikes. Some easy and some more difficult. Great place to go.
Heather Featherly
I love this hiking trailhead, and I never knew it existed until last year. The only problem is everyone else knows it's there and unless you get there super early, you're going to have a hard time finding a parking spot. There are so many different trails that you can take with different intensity levels and you can loop around and make your hike as long as you need it. I generally only run into mountain bikers and occasional coyote or rattlesnake moreso up on the Ridgeline. I gave this four stars only really because of the parking situation. There are so lots of hummingbirds, dragonflies and various types of birds so great photography opportunity if you are patient and quiet.
Bri an
Terrain for pretty much anyone, a beautiful place to relax and unwind. Grounds are well kept and luckily I’ve never ran into any rude people here.
Brian Kinash
Thoroughly enjoyed hiking around Pima Canyon wish I'd had more time to explore it
Alex The “The Photographer” Photographer Gomez
Such an amazing hiking area so many different trails for all types of hiker and levels and as kid friendly as a mountain can be
Bob Wolski
Great place to hike. 200+ miles of trails of various difficulty from vert easy to nicely challenging.
Parking and new restrooms at the trail head.
Caitlin Stewart
Was a great experience with decent easy hikes! Got to see a bit of "wildlife" and some gorgeous scenery!
James Arnold
Tarantulas, scorpions and coyotes oh my ... and trail running in the dark. Good times. Not super technical trails. Great for mtn biking
Rob Parham
Excellent place for hiking our mountain biking!!! Five stars!!
Ronald Deraas
Great variety of trails. Close to area.
A M
One of the easier trails to hike on, nice views
April Martinez
Beautiful area for hiking or just sitting and meditating on the beauty in the desert.
Russ Harrison
Great desert hills hiking area. Can be a bit crowded with dirt bikes but there are many paths and people tend to be fairly polite. Easy access if you want to get a little nature in but don't feel up to a deep Sonoran trek.
Randi B
Such a smooth hike. Simple with friendly smiles along the way.
Nikesh Bajaj
For a suburban sprawl hiking area, it’s gorgeous here. I wouldn’t come in the dead middle of the day in the dead summer, but evening hikes are magical.
Dave R
Easy access to great trails. Reasonable parking options, and there are some basic restroom facilities and water available at the trailhead.
Melanie Kaye
Great trailhead with toilets, a hand washing station, water (fountains & bottle filler), covered seating, and great signage for the area trails.
John W
Great trail, not hard at all. Bring water trail is long.
Adique
I can't hike anymore, so tired. Will come back again and conquer this trail
Rick Bee
Great trail for every level rider. Great fun.
Stephen H.
Hit the DC trail. 14 miles out and back. Great place to ride.
Rick Sarmento
Great views and a nice easy hike
Jacob Reger
Love this place so much! Great trails and beautiful view of the surroundings from the many mountain peaks. Trails are well maintained and had absolutely no issues with the gorgeous scenery.
Said Kharouta
Long trail but so easy.. a lot of walking space if you prefer to stay away from hikers without a mask.
John Sheehan
We would have rated this park 5 stars if not for the confusing trail markers.
Phyllis Devine
Lots of parking and a good variety of trails!
Abigail Hindson
Great trail! Wish it wasn’t next to a stupid golf course. They should tear that down, it ruins the view.
The directions were terrible to get there. I had to navigate through a resort, but couldn’t get through because the road was restricted because of said golf course.
I blame arizona/Phoenix zoning laws for this.
Pete Hattasch
Took the kids out for exercise! Fun trip great views.
Gary Crockett
Lots of trail options, newly renovated, nice. Well, it was. Things are starting to get run down some. Restroom doors aren't working, etc. It doesn't take much money to keep things up, instead of letting them run down, and have to rebuild virtually from scratch.
Mega Man
This is probably my favorite hiking spot within the Phoenix area. It has something for everyone. There is the simple trail up the middle. There are the harder trails up the sides. And there are trails where you can take your bike. Love it. Parking can be difficult to get on weekends. You better practice your parallel parking skills before you go.
John Forell
Major access hub to South Mountain trails. The parking lot is huge but it fills up fast especially on weekends so be prepared to park quite a ways from the trailhead and walk in. Lots of great options for hiking, mountain bike riding, and bouldering. Bring sun protection and extra water!
Ciara V
So many trails to venture off to. We did a sunset hike, but came back in the dark. Make sure you bring a headlamp and whistle and protection. We crossed a couple bon cats on the way back through the wash. Great views though!
D P
Great place to begin many different hikes1
L D
Great location! some water and restrooms here too. Many hikes start or end here
Cory Waite
Always a beautiful hike. If you're up for the challenge, climb the path up the mountains because the task trashes you acrid the tops of 5 different peaks. It's a little precarious at a few points, but you should always take your time hiking anyways. Of course bring plenty of water and probably a snack or two, never hurts. Bathrooms are at the trailhead and are really nice considering.
Lots of trails, just don't get caught out there during sunset because I've heard coyotes the later it gets.
Connie Breeze
Super awesome...bathrooms are clean...water fountians to fill your water bottle with...definitely would go back...and if you like to explore and hike or bike this is a must see..
Jiri Sir
Trailhead to National and Mormon loop. Great for biking and hiking. Fantastic view points.
Steven Norris
Beautiful area for hikes and bike trails.
Terry Winans
Amazing scenery. Great hike. Make it short or long. I made it long....I got lost. 😂🤣 …
Ty Tsosie
Some real good trails here hiking and running .
M Mc
Beautiful Canyon with well kept trails that ALL levels of hikers and bikers can explore and enjoy!! ❤🌞 …
Jeff Crabtree (AdventureArchitect)
Very interesting hiking area!
Nathan Noiman
Went with my young kids and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Bathrooms at the start, not too treacherous, just watch your kids and watch for mountain bikers! Don't forget your water!!!
Sonya Contreras
Many trails the choose from. U can get a good cardio workout, easy walk, or ride ur dirt bike.
Peter Williams
I'm tempted to try and drive people away with a bad review, that's how much I like this canyon. While I consider I a workout hike more than anything, it offers enough variety to make it enjoyable. Also, if you go at night or when it is raining the hikes are incredible. Enjoy.
Patty Charhut
Great well marked trails for all sorts of riders. Way station with toilets and shade at base of trails
Adrian Sear
So many options in relation to trail lengths and steepness. A total jewel and both a mountain biking and hiking nirvana, right in the middle of Phoenix with unreal sunset vista's of city lights from the higher peaks.
Ramona Hamilton
No complaints about this trail. It's an easy walk with a slight elevated section. The trailhead has clean restrooms, drinking fountains, and benches with shaded areas.
Ryan Unger
A nice hike with a little elevation change. Good views of the surrounding metro and mountains. Lots of different routes to take.
Shahrazad Qaisi
Loved this hike. Being out in nature is the best!! Clean bathrooms easy trail to follow and lots of paths to take from easy to hard
Ricardo A
Great place to hike for beginners, get acclimated before venturing on more difficult hikes in this extreme heat.
J V (Appletini)
A nice little trail. Good for beginners. Bring water. Saw some coyotes!
Tom T
Great place to start a mountain bike ride or hike. Trails with varying degrees of difficulty are accessible from this trail head.
J Penner
great place to go for a hike if you want to see the desert landscape without leaving town. There are a number of trails for anyone of any age and skill level. This place is popular, so go early. Keep an ear and eye out for cyclists, I have noticed they rarely if ever announce their presence before they pass hikers. Stay safe and enjoy.
G W
A very popular hike near Ahwatukee. Parking lot fills up quickly on weekends. This is a good starting point for many South Mountain Trails. At sunset the coyotes often howl loudly. Bathrooms are available here. Lots of road runner birds hang out here too.
D Lo
Recently renovated trail head. Parking lot is much bigger now. I love this section of south mountain because from here there are so many different branches of trails to run that you never really feel congested. The main dirt road is what the novices will usually hike. It's flat but scenic so it's perfect for an easy stroll. If you want some challenging hills then try the ridgeline trail. It's a personal favorite. Most loops from this trail head are less than 5 miles. There's also a ton of good mountain bike trails. Plenty of room to run and share it with riders. Check this place out. Expect parking to be tough on nice days.
Jean Randle
Great place to escape the city hustle & bustle. Peaceful and enjoyable.
Home User
Always a great drive, the off road trails are challenging and fun
Leah Jean
It's a nice trail head. Public restrooms, water bottle fill station, lots of different trails, and lots of parking. However, on busy days the parking still fills to capacity very quickly.
Julie A Hernandez
This is a fun, relatively easy hike. No climbing involved, unlike other hikes we have done that were supposedly easy.
The bad thing is, the trails are not well-marked.
Parking is hard to find at times, also, depending on the time you get there and what month you go.
Mark T
one of the preeminent trails for mountain bikers from beginner to downhill Maniacs it well maintained place with large amount of parking
Scott
Awesome place to hike. Kid friendly as well.
Kylie Dyer
There are quite a few different trails and different level of difficulty. This area is high traffic for bikes, dogs, and people. The rocks can be a bit loose, so one should be careful.
Christopher Dee
Best day is a Tuesday at 2pm on a cloudy day. Very few people hiking.
Deb Wise
My favorite hiking trail!
Mindie Slade
Very desert esk.....type of trail. Make absolutely 100 % sure to bring sunscreen. And tons of water. There are I believe trail heads on is 15miles and over 1150 ft of elevation. Pretty intense. Come prepared this environment is unforgiving. I did see allot of wildlife quail, roadrunners, a couple lizards I wasn't familiar with. Allot to see .....allot a hot
Jenna Ryan
The remodel of this trailhead was worth the months of having to park outside of the park. There's now an abundance of parking, a beautiful picnic area, and great bathrooms. We have always loved this trailhead. It leads you to a variety of trails for all experience levels. The main trail is great with little ones. Heading there an hour or so before dusk is the best. You get beautiful views of the sunset and a lot of animal sightings -- including howling packs of coyotes in the distance. It's truly beautiful! There's also a great view of Downtown Phoenix when you get up on the northern side of the foothills.
Steve Fantle
There's an extensive network of trails suitable for hiking or mountain biking. Trails are well marked, but it's a good idea to take a photo or download the trail map before starting out. Bring plenty of water and good sun protection too.
Joseph Herbert
Props to City of Phoenix for one of the best run city parks in US! This is a great location with tons of options and great facilities. It's worth travelling for. Put it on your hike list!!
Misael Gonzalez
Great hike with different elevations for subtle or intense workouts.
k white
This is a great place to get outdoors and exercise with family. The trails are friendly for all ages. Our group consisted of little ones from 3 years old to grandparents in their 60s. We visited on Saturday 28NOV20, and the weather was just right at about 65 degrees.
ajA - BLU ; VUet :
Awesome ridge trail that overlooks the the surrounding cities
Robert Stevens
Beautiful area many different trails. National trail for an easy hike or mid-life crisis trail for a harder hike.
Matt S
Awesome for hiking, running, biking! So many trails from easy to expert!
Dominic Castro
The best place ever for mt. Biking, hiking or walking the dog
Raviraj Vader
Lots of parking places, since there are short and long hiking trails the traffic keeps moving so there is a chance to find parking. Also road side parking is allowed.
To charge to hike this place. Kid friendly.
Scott Timmons
Easy hike!
MacPlaysGames
Very nice trails with decent markers to keep from getting lost. Beautiful views from the trails that go up to the peaks.
Brian Langford
Great location for a day hike! Lots of parking spaces and lots of trails to choose from where you can create your own route and plot a loop back to your car. There are also bathrooms, water fountains, benches, and tables that you use at Pima Canyon trailhead. Great location for trail runners, mountain bikers, hikers, or families out on a day adventure. Wildlife including quail, coyotes, rattlesnakes and more are around the area.
Frank Delion
Great place during the week, but can get busy on the weekends. Many weekend bikers, sometimes 3 and 5 across taking up most if the trail from trailhead to the rock house and hikers have to move aside or get run over. Great place to take dogs, but many people either dont pick up after their dogs or they just bag the poop and still leave it on the side of the trail. Aside from that weekdays is the best bet to go for a hike or walk there.
Bobby Joe Eldridge
Beautiful trail.
Cheryl Kampe
Took a 7 mile hike today. Meant to take a 4 mile hike but we went the wrong way to the parking lot lol. Beautiful weather. People of different ages were biking, trail running, hiking and walking their dogs. Love this trail
Tom Weech
Great hiking spot for people of all levels of fitness. Tons of parking and access to dozens of trails, from rolling hills to steep scrambles. Recent remodel has added even more parking, better bathrooms, and more shade.
Chris Keogh
Many hiking trails from easy to moderate. Short to long distances. Beautiful views of the entire valley and region. Great family outing. Limited parking, plan early morn, or late afternoon.
Matt Ekstrom
Cool place for those experienced as well as novice hikers. There are trails for walking, running, biking, and more. Some of the area has been remodeled, too. At sunrise it's quite beautiful, and you can beat the heat during Phoenix's brutal Summer. I highly recommend checking it out for serenity, a work, or both.
Chris Neal
This would be a great place to ride if the "hikers" on the main trail didnt take up the entire path. I mean, two people walking and talking right down then middle taking up both halves. Or bigger groups just wandering aimlessly. The actual hikers that venture further in are generally much more aware and a pleasure to deal with. Better to ride weekdays if you can.
Sara Adelman
Good hike beautiful views
G Cathie
Fantastic amenity to the local community. Trails for hikes, running, and mountain bikes. Get here early or the hunt for a parking space may take up a lot of your time. Stay hydrated and replace those electrolytes when it's hot.
TT WorX
Easy, well marked trails. Great for a casual hike and conversation.
Joshua Farley
Probably the best place to start a hike at South mountain.
Matt Heil
Moved here from Cleveland, Ohio a few years ago and I've been all over BEAUTIFUL Arizona but if your looking for a quick local hike/Mountain, this is the one! 🌄🌅 South Mountain has all types of different trails and different terrains. 🌵🌵🌵🌞🌞🌞 …
Daniel Cooper
Excellent variety of trails from this location that allow for shorter hikes up to long hikes on the National trail or loops around Beverly and Javelina Canyon. Couple of nice, hidden gem, off the beaten path areas for aspiring outdoor bouldering types with a wide variety of difficulties for problems. Really an amazing all around park with great diversity that lets you come back time and again.
Vicki Hentz
Great walk into the desert, nice to have restrooms at the trailhead
Rusty Shackleford
The updates that were performed to this trailhead are really great. The bathrooms and water fountains are a very welcome addition and the extra parking is nice. It gets extremely crowded which is a bit of a downer, but otherwise is great.
Chris Mick
Go-to spot for mountain biking and hiking. For Tempe it doesn't get much better than this. Newly renovated Pima Canyon lot/entrance adds more parking (get there really early on the weekends still though if you want a spot) and brings the facilities to a modern level. If you want to hike bike or jog in the South Mountain range this is the place to do it.
Phoenix Wedding Minister
Love this trail enterance. Hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians welcomed.
denise mooney
Wonderful place to go for easy hike
Michael Piercy
Great place for mountain biking and hiking. Lots of trail options for different ability levels. For mountain biking take pima to javelina and then back through beverly. It's a good fun and quick 6 mile ride.
Jerome J. Bracey
Perfect for a moderate hike.
Wendy Crea
It's beautiful in the early morning. But it's still very warm, so if you're going to hike, bring plenty of water and make sure you let someone know you're going. Better to be safe than sorry.
O'Zandra
Great hiking trails. Nice for families and/or groups. It's dog-friendly as well. Once at the top, awesome views of the County!!! Watch out, cyclists are everywhere.
Coach Rose
Great trails, easy to navigate even at night like I did the night I visited, and there are very few people out right before it closes! I love visiting this trailhead.
Alma Galvez
Lovely hike, you definitely work up a sweat with some of the incline! Has a very beautiful view from the top of the Mountain!
Strengthlab Jerrod Maguire
This is the primary trailhead for entry into South Mountain Park; expect it to be busy during the cooler months! The trailhead has good parking, full bathroom facilities and many trails to choose from. Once in the park the trails are well marked.
xphillipjrx
I am from the Midwest and this was the first mountain I climbed other than Boyne or Mt. Brighton. The trail to the top of the lowest peak was easy to reach and great for beginners like me. I look forward to trying other mountains.
REAL Retail Co.
It's more of an easy route, slightly boring until you get to the top of a peak, then cool views.. good trail for new hikers and hikers w kids
Bob Wolski
Great place to hike.
suddlestein
Great place i have to admit. Little plug here, but cactus adventures would make this place way better.... it is a bike rental company ONLY $50 PER BIKE had great fun with those bikes and now I ride all of the time....
Chubabe Goode
Very nice early a.m hike..
Alyssa Sass
Our favorite place to go hiking!
Jodi Rolf
Lots of parking, gorgeous views, many different trails, decent bathrooms and lots of cute dogs along the paths.
Bob Hicks
I go mountain biking here frequently. The workers are very kind, and for the most part people are friendly on the trail. Good variety of trails to take. Park is kept very clean.
Zeinab Hassan
Very nice trail... It has multiple entrances with different difficulties. It was busy at the beginning of the trail and got less busy as you go on.
The trail for some hikes is wide an easy...
Sabine Price
Pleasant facilities to get ready to hike. It was very busy that day as it was a public holiday. Bikers and walkers on the same trail is a little difficult at times, at least when one has small children.
Michael Feldbush
Primo hiking destination in the city. South Mountain Park is the largest municipal park in the world, and this is but one of the trailheads within this park. However, there is access to multiple trails. And a generous number of parking spaces. You can go hiking or mountain biking easily from this location. This location also has a wide relatively smooth dirt road that goes up into the hills as a sort of connector to other trails. This dirt road is ideal for those who don't want a strenuous hike but want to see the beauty that this park has to offer. This trail goes back into the hills for about 1.2 miles.
Deb Wade
There are so many trails; very nice place to hike or walk. Dog friendly also.
Jan Svoboda
Was visiting out of town and rented a mountain bike to ride this trail area. Excellent. Not overly technical, fast, flowy. But the landscape is the best, especially if you are there late afternoon, early evening.
Zachary Papuga
Great trailhead for all hikers. You have lots of options when it comes to trails and the facilities are nice. Parking is the only stressful thing as it's not always fun having to parallel park with a line of cars waiting behind you during busy times.
David “Switch” Perkins
Great quick trails for any type of yrsiler, hikers runner,biker.....
Mark J (maj86)
Great place to go and hike. Various difficulty trails with great views. Parking can be a problem due to its popularity. Only issue I have is people do not pick up after their animals and some just leave it in the middle of the trails. Other than that I highly recommend this place.
Yong Sim
Fairly easy trail. Very clean and there were a decent amount of people on it. There is a small part of the trail where you scale a small rock face but it's easy. Don't think too much about it, just do it.
Paul Naxius
Pretty cool place, but tricky to find. Tried google mapping to the trailhead, but in its infinite wisdom, it sent me to a locked, number-code gate.
Nice going, guys.
Anyway, the canyon is beautiful, it lets you see a sh*tload of city skyline, pretty sunset, the whole 9 yards. Also it's a popular mountain bike trail from a pedestrian perspective. Never seen so many cyclists on a trailhead before.
John Manaloto
One of the better access points to SoMo. Gets you to Mormon, National, Ridgeline, Javelina, Desert Classic, Beverly Canyon trails quickly. Gets really busy on weekends; lot is usually full.
Robert G
Good hike and able to do it with the wife 9 months into pregnancy too.
Paulette Fara-Schembri
Great easy hike for everyone. Good mountain bike trails and wider trails so everyone has space. Saw coyotes, quail and various birds.
Carole “Pete” Peterson-Baker
Very popular! Some trail signs were not clear which made it difficult for a newbie in the area. Incredible views! Would Love to to it again, now that I know trails better!👍🌠 …
Derek Seymour
National trail is next level!
Alicia Wilkerson
This is a great place to go when you need to get out! There are tons of different hiking trails suitable for all.
John Henry
Good easier hike for all. Let and kid friendly. Bring water have fun.
Allie Wilson
Been here a bunch of times and it’s always great. Many trails to explore and the recently updated parking lot/trail head is very well done. Can get busy on weekends in nice weather so show up early.
Cary McDonald
At a crossroad of several different trails about a mile and half back into the main entrance at the golf course
Joseph Baca
PIMA CANYON ~ A definite desert landscape Paradise... the trails and paths go on forever with breathing nature, cacti, bush and vegetation all about. Roadrunner and Coyote abundance plus various birds... dress for the occasion very rough, plenty of water, hat and light cover. Enjoy ~ enjoy keep our deserts clean please...
Keith Walls
Veterans Day hike, 1st I would like to thank all veterans for their Service!
On this hike you will encounter amazingly views, lots of friendly hikers, Mountain bikers, hikers w dogs all happening on this special Veterans Day!
Weston Hinton
Very nice trails great views. Tons of free parking. Go past the gate and it looks like a booth they might take a fee but they don’t. I go back as far as I can to get as close to the trailhead.
Lauretta Cruz
Love these trails!
Woody Feffer
South mountain has some tough trails! It’s a great place to really push your envelope. I do wish the trail signs were better.
Mike Carey
Great selection of trails that are well marked.
Larry Morden
Best trailhead in the whole mountain preserve, especially since the parking lot and the ramada renovations. Great place to start many adventures. Overcowding is still an issue on nice weekends, so come early or late.
Madhukar Raj
It's a good trail to get on your mountain bike and do some biking. Trail has instructions at necessary places. Another one which is besides this trail is , Marcos de niza trail which I say is a moderate trail with awsome views, the pictures are taken from marcos!!
Vanae Morrissey
Some of my favorite trails start here. Love that the parking lot is bigger and added more restrooms.
F.S.Calamity
Beautiful, well taken care of trails are plentiful here! Something for everyone. Water and running bathrooms at Pima Canyon trailhead. Water faucet at Beverly canyon trail head. Horse, bike, hiker and runner friendly.

A good place for a hike.
George “Boca”
Great views and walking trails.
Karen Hamstra
Nice hikes! Greatly improved since my last visit
Terry Foster
Lots of trails and parking nearby. Get here early on the weekends or the parking fills up quick. Great trails for hiking or mountain biking.
Morgan Davis
A nice entrance to many trails in the South Mountain park. If you visit, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG'S POOP ON THE TRAILS, and do not park in the neighborhood near the entrance. They tow people every weekend.
MaryJane B
This is one of my favorite places to hike in the valley. Lots of trails from easy to difficult. Nice new bathrooms. Ample parking.
Michael Hart
The Pima Canyon Trailhead is my favorite trailhead of South Mountain Park. The main trail is the Pima Canyon Road that takes you 1.25 miles into the park to some stone structures and access to the National Trail, Mormon Loop and other trails. The trailhead improvements are very nice. Enjoy the trails!
Justin Hayes
Great spot to start a ride as the incline in slower and gradual compared to Javelina or Beverly trailheads. Very congested though so be courteous to others on the trail.
Yolanda Rodriguez
Well maintained trails. Not for wheelchair or people with balance issues. Otherwise great for beginners, pets, kids. Open to bikes, hikers, horses. Bring water!
Todd Mowen
Great hiking and mountain biking! Trails like Desert Classic for Cross-country riding and if your up for a real challenge do the Mormon National loop. For a hike do the Marcos de Niza Trail. Great place to enjoy the desert in the middle of the city!
Brandon T
The trails at south mountain are an escape from the city inside the city. I have been hiking here for 25 years and always am amazed by the beauty. Saw two red tailed hawks soaring above the trail today
Ben Bridgham
Pima Canton at South Mountain is always a great hike. The trails are easy and relaxing, the views are great, and if you're lucky, you might even be able to spot a coyote or a roadrunner.
Aldegonda - Mieke Caris
Great city hike. Lots of different trails. Good entrance with water and emergency water at the trail.
James Corbett
Always a challenging ride with several trail options.
Justin L
Lots of good trail access, cool people, and good views available for not too far of a hike from here!
Theresa Holt
So many hiking options, but I am confused by the map. Is the location for the Pima Canyon Trailhead on this map by the bathrooms and parking lot, or is it at the end of the fire road? The map seems to completely ignore the gravel road that leads in. I believe the TH is at the end of the road, not by the parking lot. Anyone able to clarify?
Kevin Jacobsen
Lots of hiking options from this trailhead. Make sure to get there early on the weekends. Parking fills up fast
Jaisal Maru
Tons of trails with various difficulty level here. Restroom and lots of parking available , but can still get crowded. Lovely view from hilltops.
michael silvas
Moderate trail start early bring plenty of water. Great views of nature and city. Bring map to route your hike
Stephen Bennett
So many spider web paths you can go. Take a new path every time you come here. Walk, run, bike.
Bryant Erickson
Great location with organized parking, restrooms and maps for a variety of skill level trails. It is well used and maintained..
Troy Davis
Great trail to get started hiking imo, I did it for the 2nd time today since last year. It was 2.5 miles to the top and back with about a 200ft inclination average.
Andrew Jang
Beautiful hike for an evening sunset walk. Trail is not difficult for the first mile for those wishing for a short walk with family and friends.
Marisa
Excellent hiking and biking trails! Clean bathrooms, drinking fountains available. Steep or flat trails depending on what you want to do! Shaded tables for sitting!
Nando Garza
Oh, I've only been going since I was seven. This place is unique. The strange sights everywhere are unforgettable. I even wrote a book entitled The Sands of Pima Arroyo and other Stories whose first chapter dealt Pima Canyon. This is a GREAT PLACE. Great animals, plants, rock formations, and petroglyphs.
One thing: the petroglyphs at the end of the road with the people holding hands are FAKE. Native Americans didn't make such happy hippy images AND I happen to have loved climbing that rock and sliding on it since I was seven years old (that's sixty-one years) and I would remember happy, joyful dancing stick figures. I don't slide down it as much as I did when I was young I must confess.
Elizabeth Wilcox
Great hiking spot, but be aware it's popular enough you may have quite a difficult time finding a parking put spot either in the small lot at the trailhead or along the road leading up to it.
Betty Jo Convery
I trail run, hike, or bike at Pima Canyon Trailhead 1-3 times per week, year-round. It's convenient and has a variety of trails.
Joseph Ehlers
Very nice to just go for a walk! different trails to try and see where you end up
Danielle Pereira
Nice hike close to the city. Personal downside - power lines running through the mountains. Good exercise, lots of different trail options, seemed dog friendly.
Dan Fields (The Ride Abides)
Big parking lot with rest rooms. Great access to south mountain and National Trail. Awesome mountain biking spot.
Pablo Rodriguez
It was super great to see my friends crying all the time but at the end we was laugh about it

Great trails for hiking or biking. Look out for snakes and critters.
downstream state
Great views, great hiking, in town, great views of Tempe and Phoenix.
Mateo Diego
I don't usually use this parking lot, but have often stopped through on my way from here to there. The remodel is awesome! The city has really up'ed their game. It is well thought out and super nice. I would say on par with Browns Ranch (main trailhead) in North Scottsdale.
Dave Leach
I did not ride, but I am told it is a fantastic mountain biking area with some very "technical" parts.
Brian Palmer
Great hike! Go early, very popular during cooler weather. Great trails for mountain bikes too.
Carolyn Woodburn
Great new larger parking lot with flushing toilets, water fountains and a water dispenser for filling water bottles. Cleared trails too, pretty easy hiking trails.
Paul Ruiz
Located on the N/E corner of South Mountain Park one of Phoenix dozen and more City parks and Phoenix Pride of Point! It oversees the Whole East Valley & has a hiking trail into & around South Mountain! Historical feature of a rock carved inscription of 16th. Century Franciscan Priest Marcos de Niza who slept there who was part of the Coronado expedition that pass thru Arizona. Water, Restrooms & Ramadas available for the public!
Jason Magro
Pima Canyon, close to town, super easy trail, bathroom facilities at trailhead and a decent sized parking lot all add up to make this one of the best hikes 'in' Phoenix especially for visitors.
Patrick Castellano
Easy hike with 2 dogs. Mountain bikers were not very considerate when passing from behind but the road/trail was plenty wide.
chapulínrosado
It was very pretty views and good for an older family. We saw a roadrunner too. There are probably more strenuous trails out there but it was fun for us!
Coleman Sanders
Our go-to hiking spot. Parking is slim but once you're on the trails it's not very busy.
Shawna Johnson
I liked the trail and the different ways to walk from a leveled path to a hard ascending path. The grand children loved the hike we took.
Kim Drangsland
Hikes for all levels of experience and fitness. Good facilities with water and restroom. You can hike for hours or short jaunts. Very nice.
Western Wolf Studios
I'd give it five stars if there was more parking! Seriously it's a big park, not enough parking. It's usually the weekend when it's a problem when the duffers are out to cause car accidents. Quite a shame for such a beautiful place.
Wanderess Warrior
My absolute favorite place to hike in the valley. Parking can be crowded but it's worth it if you can find a spot, I recommend arriving early on weekends!
Matthew Carlo
Very nice trails that you can walk, run, hike or even bike ride. Great place to get some exercise in.
Az MTBiker
What a great trail system! Really well maintained, plenty of options, plenty of levels of difficulty. I couldn't have had a better time!

Plenty of parking, very well maintained and almost any type of trail you would like, with numerous degrees of difficulty. Even get to see Coyotes occasionally......

Great hiking for all levels of ability, easy and short to difficult and long.

First time hiking and had a great time with a few different trails of low intensity, allowing me to get a feel for it and build some endurance without overdoing it. Will definitely be back!

Great renovation EXCEPT the stupid metal rail along the parking areas. I cut my hand on a metal splinter and the whole thing is rusty. I can only imagine how many more people will get hurt on this eyesore, especially when summer bakes the metal to 200°
