Reviews of Piestewa Peak Park
Jamie Livesay
Afternoon Friday - parking was good(weekends are difficult)
- hydrate/ it’s a hike!
- views are scenic
- Rocky but we’ll defined paths
-clean
-frequently traveled and used for training
-didn’t get to see the big 🦎 (darn)
-the peak is gorgeous
- I didn’t think was extreme like it was marked (even though steep)
- stayed until night fall and the hike down was as good as the hike up. Used a headlamp… when we got to the bottom and looked back up - the mountain trail was peppered with moving headlamps of people returning… way 😎

Great area to hike. The trail was slightly crowded by 9am, however, it was still very enjoyable and we didn't feel like anyone was on top of us. Worth going to the very top, the views are incredible.
Bring plenty of water, the sun is on you moat of the hike. There's a lot of loose rock, so come prepared.
eagle clan
The trails are well maintained and the views are spectacular!
The hikers and runners we encountered were all friendly and polite.
The only negative thing I saw was a few dog poop bags left on the trail. Thinking about it now I would of picked it up. Next time I'm going to bring a plastic bag.
Totally awesome we have something like this snack dab in the middle of the city.
Pranav Sanghadia
One of the most challenging hikes. It starts moderately but the last 3/4 part is steep. This trail is full of beautiful desert views. There are no rest areas on the way or on the top. It is worth hiking this trail for the view. While hiking down I got pain in both my knees, I think wearing a knee brace would help.
Kimberly C
Loved this place! There are hikes for all levels and easy to follow trails. It feels like you can get out into nature in the middle of the city. The only negative is the amount of people but that also speaks to how great it is
Gloria Reyes
I love this place because they have various trails from easy walk to vigorous hike up stairs. The scenery is beautiful and the weather is nice enough to enjoy in Jan. I highly recommend but please hike responsibly...right shoes, clothes, lots of water 💧!!! Don't want to have to be rescued. …

Thoroughly enjoyed this hike. It took us around 60 minutes to summit. We had carried our toddlers (aged 1 and 2). It’s definitely doable. We experienced two false summits but certainly a good hike! The trail is set out like a staircase with two areas with metal pole/rails in a small area The descent was tricky without hiking poles so I recommend them but even so, with kids it’s an easy-moderate hike!
Scott Cadwell
Really good hike. One of the best in the area. The trail is marked really well. It starts off with a lot of switch backs. It does have a lot of climbing section and some big step ups. The last 1/4 of the trail you really start to climb, it is like a staircase at the end. In the morning the last 1/2 is in the shade and it is nice and cool as you climb. That is a good thing since you are starting to work hard. The top is really cool as you have a few parts you can climb up and get a great view. The parking is very good too.
Jessica Darland
I love this place. I usually do the summit trail once or twice a week. Today I chose a much calmer section of the freedom trail. It stays pretty low and is mostly dirt making it very easy to jog. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the trail I didn't think about it!
Anthony Martinez
I like hiking this trail, the views up the mountain are awesome at dusk and dawn. Also there are a whole lot more trails connected to this which lets you go into an adventure.
Georgia Brown
This is a great hike to do at any time — not easy, but not too difficult. If you are a pretty confident hiker, you could climb up later in the afternoon. You would climb down at night, but the city lights make this doable — especially during a full moon.
Leoford Murray
Great mountain hike. It gets steep the higher you go. The best time is to go 3-4 hours before the sunset to catch the best scenic view Piestewa has to offer. And it’s dog friendly to those who consider bringing their dog.
Don Johnson
This mountain is still by far my favorite places to hike in the area. I've hiked all the parks around Phoenix, and what makes Piestewa so great to me. Is that it only takes about an hour to get to the summit and back. Clean restrooms, with nice facilities. Parking can be a struggle, so plan early.
Gail Mathews
Busy. Very, very busy... but the trail itself is a good climb. It's like a real stair-climber. I would rate it difficult. The views ate pretty impressive and worth the hike!
Levi Moscowitz
Beautiful mountain preserve, great trails of different levels. Just a beautiful place to enjoy nature right in middle of the city.
Theo Bill
Great hike. Amazing views for sunset or sunrise. Very steep though, so be prepared if going to the top.
Nathan Strutz
First off the park facilities, driveways, and parking, are really nice. Piestewa draws you in with gentle pathways, that is, until it crushes you with the verticality of the peak. The journey to the top is a grueling, double-black-diamond difficult hike. Even though I'm really just a cubicle dwelling, cheeto-fingered homebody, I thought climbing Piestewa Peak would be a nice wat to spend a morning. And it was that, but it was also really difficult.
My hiking buddy, my teenage son, was a great help, not in lifting me, but in lifting my spirits. This is my best advice to you if you want to reach the top. Go with a friend who will help your mental game.
I needed a lot of breaks. Luckily the trail has enough official and unofficial places to pause and catch your breath.
We each brought 17oz water bottles, which was barely enough. They were both emptied by about halfway back down.
Our total time up was 1:15 up and :45 down. I told you that I'm out of shape! My son would have been up and down in 1 hour, but it took me 2.
Russell Berthelette
This was a fun peek to hike lots of jagged rocks does have a man-made trail so it’s very easy to follow but it is a nice little challenge. Not as good as Camelback but I would say if you cut on time it’s just as good.
Reema Ahmad
If you can get up early enough, there’s a great hike you can do to the top of the peak to catch the sunrise…and then bask in the morning rays on your way down.
Joel C.
Great hike but can be pretty sketchy. May be hard to inexperience hikers but a moderately easy hike for those who have great condition. Camelback Mountain still beats Piestwa in views and trail in my
opinion. Still a really nice hike with beautiful views and rock formations.
Jose Jaime
One of my favorite places in Phoenix to go hiking.
I personally enjoy the hard trails and this is one of them.
Stacey (PINK)
It is beautiful there. U can see the whole valley from the top of any of the mountains out there. 4th of July is really rad up there cuz u get to see a lot of different city's fireworks.
Oscar Ruiz
It's a great place for hiking, you always find people around so try to get early to get a spot in the parking lots. Mostly steps in the trail.
Trevor Hyatt
Love hiking here in this park. It’s amazing in the middle of the city it feels like your transported onto a wild mountain. The preserve is nice. The trail is typically busy, and it’s nice that the trail is distinct and easy most the way up. The top is deemed the stair master for the sharp high steps carved to the top.
Toulong Yang
Great hike! The summit trail was the one we hiked. Its challenging and at times hard but it's more mental than strenuous. Lots of steps! The top gets harder but it's doable. It does get crowded but the further you towards the top the crowd thins out.
Rob Schmidt
This is one of the most convenient places to hike in Phoenix & is a good tradeoff of being a short trail but yet challenging. It can be dangerous as rescue was there today. Please leave your dogs home as they are not allowed.
April Slater
I am new to the area. This was my second time here within the month It is very peaceful and serene. The first time I climbed half way up. The second time I hiked the loop. I highly recommend the park for all levels of hikers.
braden ghahate
Good place to run, hike, take photos, have a picnic, or watch the ground squirrels emerge from the desert.
Ezequiel Hernandez
Nice hike , not much hiker etiquette. Often I find myself going around people coming down who don't know how to stay on their side of the path. And don't get me started on the bozos shining their lights directly into my eyes at night
Tony Sherman
I've spent many years hiking up, down and around Piestewa Peak. We used to live nearby and would hike here 2-3 times a week. I decided to stop by last week while in the area for a hike to the top. Got a great parking spot and it was a beautiful sunny day with perfect weather. These old legs got me up and back, not anywhere near record time, but I enjoyed my time there nonetheless, as always. Piestewa Peak and the entire Phoenix Mountain Preserve is a jewel in the Metro Phoenix Area. If you haven't visited, be sure to check it out
Harper's Journey (Paula Harper)
My husband and 2 teenagers hiked this right at sunset and finished in the dark!!! What an awesome experience we shared with many others on the trail. It is indeed a busy trail. You get an interesting mix of hikers, but for the most part, everyone is kind and respectful. It is pretty moderate most of the way, however it gets pretty intense toward the end. There are STUNNING views of the mountains and the city at every turn!!! The trail is well marked and parking close by. Bring lots of water and a flashlight. Great for date night, time with friends or even alone. Unbelievable views right in the city of Phoenix. Great workout for sure. Parking lot closes at 9:30pm. Perfect to hike in the evening to avoid Phoenix temps in the summer. Check out my YouTube for footage of our night hike! @ Harper's Journey 😊
Isa Marquez
You want a great workout? This is a good place! It is difficult so bring lots of water, it has a few rest spots with benches along the way. The terrain is very rocky and those rocks are sharp so be careful. When you get to the top, again, very rocky, not comfortable to sit and rest because the rocks are so pointy.
Amber Hanley
Great trail, be sure to wear appropriate footwear.
Ty Grinstead
I enjoyed my experience today it wasn't too crowded, as the time I had visited before. Some shaded spots but very little. Very, very little shade. Hey it's a rough but fun hike.. Always have plenty of water to drink and something with electrolytes. Because no matter how of a professional of a hiker you are, it get brutal quick. Because this trail is steep. It's not easy, but hey you can do it!✊🏿
Brian Gingras
Great local Phoenix hike. Very nice to see the city making improvements to the parking areas and adding new bathrooms. Just making it better for everyone. Awesome that the park opens at 5am. Got to get up to the top and watch the sunrise. Have done the hike a few times, this was the first time in the dark going up. A hike everyone should do. Always have plenty of water in the summer and be courteous of other hikers, keep the music off and no dogs.
Bobby and Sally
Come early and bring plenty of water we got here at 6 am and it was already fairly crowded. There are several places you can rest on the way up, take your time because, the summit his very much worth the long steep hike up. I definitely do not recommend taking young children or pets. This is a double black diamond rated hike so take it seriously. Take your time you'll definitely be rewarded when you reach the top
Anastasia Huggins
Nice spot in the middle of the city! Parking on a Saturday was a nightmare and the trails were BUSY! We were so able to find some areas that were less traveled, but the peak itself was a zoo. We started at the 8a trailhead and had to park in the strip mall across the street (which was fine)! This side seemed less busy than the main trailhead though
Mr Bill Bowling
A good place for hiking. Restrooms and plenty of parking. Very busy Trail. Additional parking off road side. Trail is extremely difficult but the last 25% is more difficult.
kevin cousins
They've got some really nice rocks here and they let you walk all over them. Restrooms and water fountains at the parking locations. Nice views for those that like walking upwards, but yeah, the rocks are nice here.
Megan Thorwick
Loved this hike! Decently challenging and the perfect amount of time. I think maybe 1.5~2 hours total. The trail was busy at around 4pm
Clifford McCrum
Wow. City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation did a great job with the Ramadas and bathrooms. If you go to the very last Ramada you can see a beautiful sunset from there. Attended a wedding there and it was as good as it gets. I'm disappointed I didn't take a photo to share.
Ryan B.
Nice area, lots of Parking But fills FAST, recommend getting there prior to open, Especially On Weekends. There are other trailheads around the Mountain if your in a Jam, Nice seating all along the oarkibg lots, also Bathrooms. Very Scenic, different Levels Of trails from Easy To Difficult. No complaints Over Here
Daphne Chen
Perfect short hike for a workout with some views mixed in. Easy trip from the city, very doable after work
Amelia Maclaren
Wonderful hiking area. The freedom trail was the perfect length for a quick hike and great for feeling like we were out of the city. It's also a fantastic area for amazing sunsets.
Katie Grimes
What a great hike. There were sooooo many people out there, which is good for me. I'm a solo hiker and watching the headlamps bounce up the mountain was very comforting.
Really beautiful and a great workout. Most of the people out there seem like they do it a lot. Stringy recommend going at sunrise.
Kevin s
I wish I could say I made it to the top, but I just didn’t have it in me that day. This is a very challenging hike. The good news is that you only have to go as far as you want. I will be back to do it again. I have a lot of respect for the people who come here all the time and can fly right up. What a beautiful place to exercise. This is a good work out. If you want to get in shape come hike this everyday and then when that gets easy do it twice!
Chris Shearer
Loved this hike. Very glad it was cloudy with a coolish breeze or it would be too much in the middle of the day. Definitely different hiking conditions than other places. Lots of loose rock made for a couple slips and near falls. Wish the trails would be a bit better labelled as there were some forks with no signs. Looks like they keep the facilities up pretty well, and they appear to be adding additional facilities . Not the easies hike, but medium.
Arely Barbosa
I loved this park! I had hiked out to the South Mountain park earlier this week and thought the view was nice, but this hike was much better. It was challenging, but rewarding. We hiked up for the sunset (obviously recommend a flashnight at night) and the view was stunning! I will definitely be back for more hikes.
Benjamin Myers
Great hike! Felt like a staircase most of the way up! The path was very well done, though things do get a bit more steep at the top. The path itself has been manicured and is much more defined in comparison to Camelback. It's a lot less crowded and parking is easier. A lot of different hiking path options here too. Definitely coming back!
James Laramy
One of my all time favorite hikes. It's a steep climb to the top, but the view is totally worth it. You get a perfect panoramic view of the Phoenix area. You'll want to be in a moderate health condition to hike this, but if you take your time, you will be fine.
Monica Rodriguez
It's a beautiful hike with very good views. It's rated extremely hard and most of the hike is Rocky terrain. Definitely take a lot of water. Dogs are not allowed and I would think it's too dangerous for kids.
Chris Snow
FYI - this park is in the same area as the Phoenix Mountains Preserve. Once you are in the park, there are multiple trails to chose from. Some easy and others difficult. This day I chose trail #304 which is a loop and most times you are walking on broken rock, sand or using your balance to navigate the trail. Overall, this is a good hike for someone wanting to push themselves.
Jason Buscema
Great place to hike with lots of options. Parking isn’t so great, at least on weekends and holidays. Still, love this place and enjoy the views from the top. Definitely well traveled.
Jenny Christian
Epic hike! Switchback stairs ALL the way UP! Be hydrated and take breaks as needed. Only about 25% of ppl were masked, social distancing is difficult in some parts of the trail.
Jason Stiles
Best quick hike I’ve found in Phoenix so far. Minus from home, up and down in an hour if you push it. Or, take your time, enjoy the scenery and foliage. Breathtaking views from the top. A must do if you are visiting or live here. I go several times a week if possible just for the workout
S. DOT Kerlin
Great vertical gain in a short amount of time! Not for the beginner hiker. Wear grippy shoes, preferably trail runners. Very Rocky trail. Unmatched 360° view of Phoenix. Awesome for sunrise or sunset pics!
Blake Ericson
Great trail. Definitely an easier climb than Camelback Mountain but worth the views. If you take your time I'd say it takes about 2 hours round trip. Bring water and be prepared to park on the side of the road near the trailhead. Watch your step and keep an eye out for some cool wildlife!
Kshama Chandan
Loved it. Great hike. Rocky and little steep. But what fun is a hike without some challenge. Love the view from the top. Make sure to wear good shoes with grip for this one.
Surya Poudel
One of the toughest hike trail inside the city. I have made within 46 mins without proper rest. If you are a beginner then be sure about the challenge you gonna get. Its worth it when you made to the top. Go early as possible and enjoy.
Nick Ernst
This was a nice hike. They offer a variety of paths, so you can enjoy it no matter your experience level. The scenery once you're toward the top is lovely. I went in the evening in June and it wasn't too unbearable.
Lorenzo di Mesa
Not very long, but it's a thigh and calf burner. And lungs and lower back and hip flexors. Great day hike! Some on the trail not so polite, but nothing major. Typically everyone is friendly.
Donna Buono
Take water and your time going to the summit. Went on a Saturday morning and waited for a parking space. The trail was crowded but most people yielded to the climbers going up. Saw a few little kids and a wedding proposal mid way on the trail.
Nathaniel Peton
Challenging but amazing hike! Worth every effort! Get there before sunrise to enjoy Ken Koshio welcoming the sun at the summit.
Tara Wenzel
Hard hike, constantly going up, but the view is worth it and there is a great view up top! One of my favorite hikes! Go on the weekdays and its more peaceful. Theres also hikes all around this one! No dogs allowed on this trail specifically.
Victoria Reviews
The trail is longer than you'd think. It's a great hike on a day with mild weather. There are plenty of places to sit and rest on the way up. It gets steeper near the top. Be aware that it takes a long time to hike back down and it gets very dark when the sun starts to set.
Timothy Kirk
Great hike, but definitely not something for the light-hearted or novice hikers out there! It pretty much is straight incline all the way and a solid workout. The views of the valley are quite amazing from Camelback to Downtown Phoenix you'll see everything. During the winter a later hike time will workout great to be able to get parking and get up there. I'd say allow yourself 2-2.5 hours to get up and come down at a decent pace.
Deb
The scenic view was amazing and the weather couldn't have been more perfect making my hike very memorable. I'd suggest taking lots of water I had a water backpack with 2 liters I drank all of it! I also came across a few lil critters that made my experience here amazing! Definitely coming back!
Rambhupal Bhimireddy
Love this quick hiking place.
Desiree Heniff
Such a beautiful hike and view! The hike to the top of the peak is challenging especially if you aren't used to hiking mountains. They have benches to rest at throughout the hike. The views are spectacular and worth the hike!! They have many other trails as well if you don't want to climb to the top. Definitely wear sunscreen and bring a bottle of water!
Luis Mejiaortega
Pretty short but strenuous hike. The most difficult part is right at the end where the path becomes much more vertical. Beautiful overlooks throughout the hike and a great view from the top. It is pretty busy however.
Sendur Rajaa
Recently they have renovated the trail. Very good. Lot of view spots that gives a good view of downtown as well. No dogs allowed. Carry at least 1 litre of water during summer. Happy hiking!!!
Donna Ashton
Absolutely beautiful park with ramadas and gorgeous scenery. Bathrooms for each Ramada area with wash sinks outside with actual soap.
Erick Rook
Challenging hike up to the peak but great cardiovascular exercise and a great stress reliever out in nature.
It gets busy but I haven't seen the trails going to the top way over crowded.
There's also a few "hidden" paths away from hiking traffic that are great for meditation.
Brendan Butler
Awesome area for hiking and running. Just be careful during May-October. I’m a local and still almost had heatstroke last year.
Elizabeth Fitzpatrick
Well maintained, clean, fun, plenty of birds and a good variety of trails ranging from easy to difficult.
Matthew Buller
I dont get why the Piestewa Peak trail is so popular as its a long leg burning series of steps and more steps basically, seems like your in a group work out that the locals do for their cardio everyday..as there's crazies jogging up and down this thing like their Rocky at the philly museum of art. if you want a more senic and less populated trail with some modertly challenging elevation gains and rewarding descents take the freedom trail that goes around the peak where you can see such sites as "the saguaro that took a little blue pill" Also a few other less populated trails if you have time. Note, cell service can be lacking in some spots even though your so close to pheniox. Ample picnic and restroom facility's with fresh water. Parking sucks, no car take uber from skyharbor for about $25.
veronica Rivera
Nice trail! From easy to mild difficult type of trail, this is one of my favorites spot to go for a 2 hours round trip hike, has amazing view all way around!the early you go the better you will enjoy hiking this trail! Enjoy!
Jillybean C
Outstanding hike with my family we enjoyed exploring and the views on a beautiful day!😎 …
Rob the Foodie
Nice quiet and peaceful great place for the whole family to picnic or to take a nice long hike 🚶♂️ or a short walk around the mountains …
Rhonda Renise
Hiking is part of our family therapy and I hope to continue the tradition as our family grows and grows! Piestewa is one of our favorites so far!
Ma Zooka
I’m a novice hiker and tbh I’m a smoker so this kicked my butt to say the least. I wanted to quit but thank my lucky stars I didn’t. Look at the view. And my camera captured a unidentifiable figure going into the clouds. It was busier when we started but quickly vacated once night came. I’m still feeling it a day later but would do it again just for this insane breathtaking view of an amazing city!
Deanna Hearon
Took a friend there who has only been here in the Valley for a year! It was a lovely evening! Watched the sun go down to the West and the moon rise over the mountain on the East side!
Tanya T
Great hike. Very short (about 2/3 miles roundtrip) but very difficult. Lots of people on the trail but it went smoothly. Parking is a bit of a mess because people don't understand the importance of parking on sn angle. So be prepared to have to park far from trailhead, especially on the weekend.
House of Love
Incredible hikes! Never lost cell signal. Not wheelchair accessible.
Juan Pasillas
If you're looking for a good workout this is the hike. You will begin to feel it about halfway through. The scenery at the top is worth it though. It is definitely worth checking out. The only bad thing is that there is some construction going on, but it's no big deal at the end of the day.
Suzanne Davis IFBB Pro
Rated "extremely dangerous". Be prepared!
Parking lot with water & shade at the base. Great views, 360° of Phoenix.
Maria Paula Ramirez
A very kind hiker I spoke to stated, "This is my favorite trail, and it will be yours too."
She is correct!
Ellie Eyestone
This hike was more brutal than expected! Not very long, just a few miles, and we are both in shape but but quite steep and Not a lot of shade so avoid doing in the summer! If you are a native Arizonan you will probably be fine. The top has some cool jagged epic rocks though which were cool! Make sure to bring enough water and turn around if you’re running out.
Terry Winans
March was an awesome time to hike. Low 70s. Trails were great and not too steep. Fun times. Can't wait to hike again in July...early morning!
Scott Porambo
Excellent 4th of July morning hike.
Nick Smith
This was a good 3-mile hike. I would say it is intermediate. If you're looking for a good spot in the city this would definitely do you want to recommend. I did the loop but the summit will be my next hike. The parking is under construction right now which makes a little hectic.
John Nesbit
Best views in valley...difficult summit trail hike...others are less challenging
Sara Mattox
Gorgeous views, trail we took was tougher than I was expecting but still great
Lisa K.
Lovely park! Free admission, free parking. Restrooms, water. A few different routes to the top, spectacular views.
Janko Babszem
If you really like to hike you should go there with 10+ children! Bring minimum 2 bottles of water per person because the mountain higher than you think!
The Wannabe Gangster
Piestewa Peak is one of my favorite places to hike. It's a great challenge, provides a good workout, and provides absolutely wonderful views to look at as you go. Fun and safe environment.
Tee Pee
The trails are easy and not so complicated. Very peaceful and calming for your spirit. You can sit at the bench area and journal about life or just get some me time!!
Anthony Heller
Really enjoy this location to hike. The trails are clean and challenging enough. Parking has gotten better as they improve the trailhead parking area.
Monica Stenmo
Very well traveled and busy. Multiple trails to explore. Perfect for taking tourists to show off the Arizona cacti landscape.
karla Martinez
I've never been on a hike before but it was a great experience doing it at this location for sure. Made it to the top on my second attempt. This trail took my hiking virginity for sure!! As a beginner it was about an hour and 3 falls to get to the top. Some people like to run or are in a rush so step a side, their generally mad or not paying attention to others. Trail is extremely clean and i got the full experience of being a Phoenixian!
John Arneson
Such a great area to hike. Easy, moderate and more difficult hikes. Something for everyone. 🚶♂️🚶♀️ …
Edgar R. USA
The transformation of this place is incredible well just the entrance lol, 😂😂🤔🦊🐺
I have been coming here for years honestly ever since I was a kid and it's a great place to go for a hike, if you go 34 minutes before the sunset oh my God it's totally worth it, just be ready for the ups and downs and take some water, backpack, flashlight for the darkness, and headphones.
Matthew Standland
What a peaceful hike with majestic cactus and rocks. And as a bonus, as you ascend, you get a better view of Pheonix. Phenomenal.
George Wang
Beautiful peak, especially around sunset time. This is definitely stairs master 9000 so be sure to bring enough water!
Santita
First time here at night. Beautiful night hike and the moon tonight was just amazing. So worth it. I was just blown away with the view.
Sid
This park has multiple trail routes. 302 loop and Summit trails are good with nice views. Route 304 and Circumference trails are decent too.
Joe Lucchetti
After visiting almost all of the parks in the Phoenix area, this one is my favorite. The trails go deep into valleys and you really feel immersed in nature. Super cool feeling. Very nice views of the mountains with quite a few cool flowers, cactuses, and wildlife. This is he only place I have seen a real rock squirrel.
Morgan Waddell
I hiked a challenging hike with wonderful views in a great location. So many trails (of all levels) to choose from. Lots of parking and well maintained bathroom facilities and drinking fountains.
Justin
Beautiful time to hike! At the moment, most parking lots are closed. You will have to park outside the entrance or further in the back, close to the circumference trailhead.
Chris Baker
Great park with hiking trails for all levels and ages. The views are amazing, we went in early December so the temperatures we're perfect. Make sure to hydrate and whatever you do take of your shoes...We saw a few flip flop catastrophies, leave those for the beach.
Matthew Carr
We hiked the summit, it was definitely challenging but mostly stepped so not a ton of scrambling. The reward was seeing the snowcapped mountains in almost every direction!
Dusty Bottoms
Piestewa Peak is a local favorite! Gets busy at times but the traffic moves fast. BRING WATER its a tough hike for newbies, and out of towners.
Nella Kane
Level: Very difficult.
Great hiking trail, wear appropriate shoes and avoid the heat. Great hours would be 5-9am before the sun.
Caro
Nice place to hike. Wear sturdy hiking boots and carry water with you.
Nick Manjrekar
Beautiful sunrise from the top for a non hiker it will take 45 to 60 minutes to be on the top.
Nick Johnson
Fantastic, make sure you are prepared for the hike. Be careful and watch every step. Enjoy the views at the peak
Pete Ciliberto
Great view of downtown Phoenix. Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes and a bottle of water. It's quite a hike to the top but the view is definitely worth it.
juan sanchez
Great place for morning or evening hike. Fantastic views.
Henny L
Hiking to the peak is harder than you think. If you are from out of state be aware that the hike up is in direct sun and it can get really hot. The view is worth it though.
Doreen Myers
Great climb, easier than echo trail. Rest rooms were clean. Ample parking.
Loren Kutsko
This places offers a variety of hiking trails right in the middle of the city. It's easy to get to a peak and see the city skyline and get into a valley with no cell reception so you can forget the city for a bit. The parking lots and bathrooms are new and super nice.
Kyle B.
Great hike! Sometimes parking is tight. They have great facilities and a very easy to navigate trail. Steep, but worth the views at the top!
Mrs Trez
Fun hike but hard! Accidently went up the EXTREME TRAIL. Read the signs and if you're not a regular experienced hiker, take the easier path. Please read the signs all around. They have good information and important information to keep you safe and alive while enjoying the trails. Make sure you use sunblock, go early in the morning, and wear spf of some sort. Enjoy!
XxSoniloxX
Great hike! But VERY challenging if you're not in shape. Bring plenty of water especially if it's getting hot out there. There's a reason why it's double black diamond difficulty. Also the wildlife all seems friendly!
Mariely Jackson
Great hiking place, not all of the trails allowed dogs. (Please do your research before heading with your four legged babies) other than that enjoy all the beauty!
Gina Santangelo
Best trails in Phoenix to get lost in! Take some extra water with you, as the trail markings are not always clear, and a 3 mile hike could turn into 5 miles... Views are wonderful. I enjoy the Quartz Ridge Trail for a quick 1.5 mile hike, while having an amazing backdrop of downtown phoenix the whole way up.
Uriel Nunez
Quick serious gut check. Lots of fun and an amazing view from the summit just minutes from the house.....any house really
Kalli Moon Adventures
The renovations truly enhanced the area. With the bridge connecting the summit trailhead to the parkinglot to the multiple bathrooms close by. This is a wonderful im city hike to explore!
Catherine J Fulton
Awesome place to visit and hike. Great views and many photo opportunities!
Juan Rodriguez
Really good hike. A bit difficult since it's been over a year since I've done a tough hike like this.
George Williams
I enjoy this hike, basically up and down in 2 hours, pretty steep towards the top but a good test.
Views are great, trail is easy to follow...usually go on a Friday, not too busy.
Daniel A GG
Love this trail, easy and fun to hike
Ronald Young
A good place to hike close to town. Lots of parking and lots of trails.
Mike Muskat
Great day hike near phoenix. Bring water and good shoes. Awesome views. Steep hill.
Brad S
Perfect time of year.... Steeper than some trails I have been on, so great for the heart rate!!
Ian Johnston
Great hike... pretty moderate for active people. Beautiful views and manageable. location is awesome in the heart of Phoenix... parking is sometimes a challenge but overall one of my personal favorites.
Ben Jones
Nice quick adventure, In n Out 20 mins it'll be great!
Isaac Pisaña
Amazing place to get away. Many different trails.fun
Wally
This is definitely a double black diamond. If you are looking for a casual hike go somewhere else. If you want a challenge with rough terrain and beautiful views this is the place. Bring twice the water you think you need and bring a flashlight.
Chris Bushman
While it may not get all the attention of nearby Camelback, this is probably more strenuous due to the elevation gain over a shorter distance. Plus it has the advantage of giving you great views in all directions and is less crowded than Camelback. This trail is essentially one big natural staircase with a couple of landings.
David Shepherd
I've only hiked the Summit Trail #300 so far and its a great hike, but very steep. The views are worth the climb up.
Daniel Wylie
One of the best hikes in Phoenix. Challenging but not too difficult. Excellent views!
Michele Durco
Really pretty and peaceful. Hiking trails, biking trails, bridges, sidewalks, birds, nature, and beauty!
Bharath Chouta
Lucky it was not a super hot day and finished the freedom loop trail and summit peak trail in 2.3 hours.
Diane McMillin
Great hike for the well conditioned! Not really a good hike for children.
Steamboat
This was a good hike it took over 2 hours but we had to stop a lot to take pictures.
JC Clift
Clear your mind and rejuvenate your spirit by hiking at Piestewa Peak. All types of trails for all skill levels. Bring your Dog, your kids your Grandparents! Great place in nature!
Pavlina Bains
Very nice in the midst of scottsdale to.have this awesome space.
Clean and immaculate.. Trails are tough. But if you just walk the road up and down its.perfect as well.
Nikolay Kolev
First time hitting this trail. It is steep but very fun. Great place to take some great photos!
c v
Nice hike just outside of the city with great views of Phoenix
The Pool Whisperer
Great hiking trail with excellent sunset views!
Lynn Thompson
A challenging hike for those ready to build endurance. The commute to multiple trailheads is easy from Phoenix and Scottsdale allowing for repeated ascents until it seems mundane and easy.
Aricka Anderson
Nice challenging hike with plenty of people around. Second time doing it and won't be my last. Really nice views.
Steve Pederson
Nice place to hike. It is not very difficult. Takes about an hour and a half to go up and down.
Robert Pelley
Looking for a challenging hike in town then this is it. It’s about a 20-30 minute drive from most parts of PHX and surrounding area, right off of i51. This trail isn’t an easy one, it’s actually a double black diamond for difficulty. Lots of stairs and the last 1/3 of the trail is a true incline to a spectacular view of PHX and Scottsdale. Pack snacks and water. Squirrels reside at the top and will come up to you begging for food.
Andrew Corral
Great trail with multiple paths, plenty of free parking and fantastic views
Alicia Stensberg
The park has a lot of trails of varying difficulty. The summit is challenging, but worth it!
Ryan Duff
Definitely a climb, not quite like the stairs of cirith ungol, but a climb. Great views to downtown, plenty of rest areas with benches and more views. Fairly rugged trail with some large step ups. No dogs allowed on some trails, and vigilant rangers.
Peter Gruman
Very good climb. Wear some good trail shoes, take your time, and enjoy the workout. Great payoff at the top and along the way. Not as tough as Camelback but still a very stout challenge.
Ozzie Calvopina
Appears to be a good place for hiking but I was looking for some sunset photos. I got some but in my opinion limited views
Ripon Saha
It was not a hard hike. This one is near the Camelback Mountain. When you go up, you can see the all surrounding. You can see Phoenix ,Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa! During night hike with the light from city lights you can hike without turning on flashlight. This is not a dark site for sure, so can't see all the stars at night. The peak is little stiff and bit scary at the very end. Multiple places have seats to take rest if you wish.
Volt9Charge
More than enough parking for a pre 8am hike.
Julie Morris
The views are spectacular, especially in the pitch dark and right as the sun comes up. Be prepared. The is a steep, uneven trail, easy to fall and get injured. Bring plenty of water, preferably a hydration pack, as it is best to keep your hands free. Wear newer grippy trail running shoes or hiking boots for ankle support. I've hiked with and without poles. I think poles are more of a hindrance on the peak trail. Dress for heat. Begin your hike feeling slightly uncomfortable, cooler than you like because you will heat up quickly, within 2 to 3 minutes, as the hike is immediately steep and the trail is uneven and rocky. Be prepared for ALOT of traffic during morning hours, especially on weekends and holidays. Happy hiking! Please click 👍 if this was helpful.
Reggie Sykes
Great workout. The mountain got the best of me.
Joe Hernandez
Great place to hike, and the scenery is beautiful.
Patrick Villella
Great hiking trails, gorgeous views, and really nice, new facilities. Since the upgrades in 2020/2021, there is lots of parking. There are trails for just about any skill/fitness level.
Kyle Daugherty
Really cool spot with quite a few different trails to explore. Good amount of parking
Andrew Brueggemann
It's one heck of a climb but very fun
Erica Lee
Beautiful view and place 2 hike..
Sean Queen
Very first time up! Took an hour. Well maintained, super busy! Nice folks climbing together.
Richard Dawson
This is a great climb for intermediate climbers. It is moderately strenuous but short. Most people in average shape can summit and the views are worth it.
dawn connet
Hiked in Saturday morning at 10:30 on the 304 nature loop at the end of the parking lot in about an hour and 20 minutes for the 1.5 miles. Parking is tough but if you pull into parking area and wait a bit someone usually comes out from their hike to open a space. The trail is marked easy but since we are in our 60s it was a little on the moderate at times with some elevation climbs with rocks - glad we had our walking sticks. We will hike here again.
Ken Beierlein
Well maintained park with plenty of parking available the day we were there, busier in the AM with people trying to beat the heat. Lots of well marked trails with lots of hikers, bring plenty of water and good shoes, although I did see a couple of locals hiking it in bare feet. The summit trail (300) is mostly uneven steps to the top nothing too difficult other that the rise in elevation.
Debbie
It was a great workout! Pretty much climbing stairs the whole time. I highly recommend going early (starting the hike at 5:30-6am) if you are wanting to hike in the summer. Not much scenery at the end, we were confused if we were even at the end. But overall a great hike. Make sure to come prepared and bring lots of water.
Phu Vo
Moderately difficult climb as advertised. Hiking shoes highly recommended. View is awesome and breathtaking!
Kristen Cyr
WOW, the sunset is to die for!
Martin Gollery
Great hike, pretty crowded though
Joni Supra
Nice place to go hike and the scenery is beautiful!!!
Dylan Winemiller
Beautiful day for a quick hike around the preserve...
Tony Donahue
Hiking was a great experience...bring plenty of water please #safety #first 🙏🏜😍🤟🌄 …
Jon Savage
They really have done a great job trying to keep the path in good shape. Current construction shows they are adding more space too! If you wanted a stair master be prepared to hike that butt into shape! The view is simply breathtaking on top and you feel a special energy up there.
Tobias Matthiesen
Lovely trail with an amazing view over Phoenix and the surrounding area/mountains!
John Hegna
Fun relatively easy climb. Great views. The train is in even, but easy to traverse.
Theresa Schmitt
Lovely at sunset. Limited trails but easily accessible with tons of parking.
Tom Fox
Great day this morning hiking the Summit Trail. Thank God for the breeze! I fell asleep while on top it was so nice. Can't wait to get back.
saurabh khandelwal
Not ar difficult as the camelback mountain hike but beautiful views.
Darren Eaton
Always a great hike, get it done early to avoid the heat please bring lots of water
Todd Graham
Great facilities - running water, bathrooms, soap available.
The summit hike was good - longer than I expected and challenging cardio.
Get there early if you want parking in one of the many lots!
Jazmin Boring
Great trail for dogs and kids only giving it 4 stars do to there only being a porter potty
Mark Esslinger
Great hiking with scenic views of Phoenix you'll break a sweat because the elevation and some of the train is difficult. It's very popular
Niala Avlis
It is difficult to climb this type of mountain however it helps a lot to the blood circulation is adequate, when one goes up it takes on average 40 minutes at a moderate pace without much effort.
Vickie Evans
Besides them still having the main entrance closed, we where able to go around to the back side off of Glendale and do a little junior hike. It's a great place to hike and listen to the birds etc...
Jenn Jenn C
Beautiful and clean.
Limited parking....go early. No earlier than that. Whatever time you think, go earlier.
Steve Rhodes
Great hike, a little busy
C Z
It was a good cardio! Not as crowded as I thought on a Saturday morning (starting around 9). Having a hiking pole made coming down much easier. I find camelback more interesting and fun.
Breanne Reith
Good park. Several trails to choose from. Nice picnic areas. Great views!
Brenda Blum
I wasn't sure I'd make it up, but I did it!!! Beautiful views!!!
Robb
Challenging and fun! I've hiked it 4 or 5 times and it's a great challenge to keep the pace up while going up and honestly really fun to jog down! On the flip side it's really beautiful if you're just looking to walk at a leisurely pace. There's a lookout point off to the left hand side about 4/5th's of the way up where my wife and I stopped to have a picnic. Great views and the people hiking around you always seem to be encouraging each other. Great experience overall!
Alexis
This mountain is def a challenge for me. I took a lot of breaks but my hubby and finished and made it to the top. We are going to master the mountain and look for another to master. I the view is spectacular 😊 …
DeAnne Pride
New parking yeah! Awesome up and down with a terrific view at the top. Several different levels while your hiking. Lots of friendly people encouraging you. Best of Arizona for a quick fun yet challenging hike. Can be done with friends or alone, you can't get lost nor are there any scketchy areas without others to keep you in sight (almost always)
Thomas Hooper
One of the best hiking spots in the Phoenix area.
T M
A great hike, I would say moderate. Be aware that Google maps may lead you to a private, gated entrance in a neighborhood depending on which direction you are coming from. If you can go at sunset please do, the views are stunning. I didn't make it to the peak since it was getting dark, but I definitely want to go again!
veronica mejia
Lots of trails form easy to hard an app all trails makes it easy to see the trails but don't depend on your phone just follow the markers keep vigilant some trails are dog friendly and others are not. Take plenty of water for your hike take some snacks. Better to be over prepared than under. Have fun and enjoy it so much beauty sometimes you see nothing but mountains when at the top you can see down all around. This is trail 304 and then 8A I've gotten turned around on this one but only because I was running it and listening to music.
Bonita Garth
Beautiful scenery. Air has been nice and cool lately. Like seeing the chipmunks running around and the birds singing. Great place to go hiking. Many people come here, so either go early or later in the day.
Xander Amirales
Great place to hike st any time in the day, the night is my personal favorite because very few are there and you can see a 360 of all Phoenix, there are also tiny wildlife that come out to greet which is very neat.
Brandon
Great trails, the climb is harder than most think. Come prepared with water.
Amanda Walrath
Amazing sunrise!!! Worth the hike!!!
Bill Radke
Always a great hike with amazing views!
#thebillradkeexperience
Rachel I
Great hike! Know before you go. There are no bathrooms or emergency water supplies on the mountain so come prepared, wear sunscreen and be ready for a real hike. The hikers are mostly friendly and helpful. It's a nice environment. 4 benches to rest so pace yourself. There is a medallion at the top and a stunning view. Enjoy!
Kit Anderson
This is a challenging hike with a lovely view at the top. My husband and I are in our 60s, in decent shape and took our time and it took us about 2 hours up and back.
Travis S
Great hike, go early to avoid the crowds. The earlier the better. Although double black, this is an easier hike the Camel Back
Josh “Scosh” Scotia
this is a great hike easily accessible and they are remodeling the parking lot that should be ready in the summer of 2019 and thank goodness because the parking was limited by about 8 a.m. on Saturday. no dogs allowed on this hike but bring plenty of water and sunblock and a camera as the views are amazing as you work your way up this mountain. I would suggest heading up the main trail even if it's a bit crowded and then taking the alternate route as you had about halfway down the mountain for a different Viewpoint then your way up. Enjoy and keep hiking!
Will Davidson
Great hike close to the city. Good view of the city and a great place to watch the sun set.
Andrew Hermann
Always great to get out on desert mountains!
STEPHANIE BROOKS
First time hiking this mountain. Nice views!
Haleigh Mitchell
Nice area for hiking with trails of all difficulty types. I recently hiked the Summit trail; its a very difficult hike but the views are worth it.
Holly Amend
The trails are a perfect combination of technical, but not too rocky. Lots of options for either light climbing or steep ascents, and really nice to be less crowded later in the morning (although you need to take more water and beware the heat!).
Abe Velarde
Always a great hike with several trails!
Pros:
It’s shot but always a great workout
Beautiful views at the top
Very easy to get to
They have restrooms at the base of the mountain.
Cons:
They close to early
It’s busy (not all the time)
Sometimes no parking.
Lindsay “Sweet Clucker” T
My favorite hike in Phoenix. Very challenging to do the peak trail. The city has enhanced the parking and restrooms it is truly beautiful. Some trails allow dogs some do not make sure you look before you bring your fur baby.
Rodney Smith
Be sure to read the signs before tackling the trails. Some are for novices and some are for more experienced hikers....I'm not one of them.
Zeke Hocking
I hope they finish the parking construction soon. Right now it is hard to find a spot and you will likely have to walk for a good distance from your car to reach the trail. This mountain is super fun and fairly challenging. Everyone loves it based on the amount of people hiking it each day. It's a great way to get in good cardio. It's very fun working out with so many others from the community.
MaGuadalupe Gutierrez
Hard hiking but great workout !! Love the views
Kevin Atwood
Piestewa Peak is amazing, especially for an inner-urban hike - even much more so if one is able to reach the top. It is a hike I would call very difficult and I consider myself to be in decent shape. For me it is more difficult coming down than going up, but I only attribute that to my sensitive joints. It takes me about an hour up and an hour down. I don't recall the exact distance - I want to say a mile and a half but don't quote me on that. But, yes - some parts are very, very challenging. In my opinion Piestewa is equally as challenging as the Echo Canyon side of Camelback Mountain. There are no stretches on Piestewa where they felt it was necessary to place poles parallel to the surface of the trail in order to pull yourself up the trail as is the case with Echo Canyon, but there are long stretches of significantly high "steps," mostly for the last quarter of it or so. You will likely feel it in your calves and thighs for a few days if you haven't done rigorous leg exercise for a while. Do be prepared. Also I definitely need to warn - I do NOT recommend attempting anything daredevilish in terms of going off of the established trail near cliffs or anything of the like. People do that often and although they may usually come out unscathed, it is very common that they don't - and I have seen MANY medical helicopters above Piestewa to emphasize that fact. You don't want to be on the evening news for that! By no means am I saying that in order to intimidate or discourage, I just hate to see people get hurt. Please come and give it a shot! Just stay on the trail and be careful, exercise common sense, you will love it 😊 Another thing: please - bring at least a gallon of water! You are going to sweat regardless of your physical condition. They put in plenty of artificial water sources at the main trailhead parking area during the recent remodel, but once you begin the actual hike there are none. So seriously, please bring plenty of water. There are plenty of restrooms at the bottom but there are not any on the actual hike so be aware of that. It is a very popular destination, especially on the weekends and holidays, earlier in the day during Summer months due to the heat of course. I don't have any children, but I have seen many children on the trail even as young as 4 or so. The other day when I hiked it I even saw a man with a baby in one of those baby-carrying apparatuses that straps to your chest (Sorry, can't remember what they're called lol). But I do need to reiterate: it is NOT easy.
.....If you make it to the top, though, it is wonderful and the near-silence is a delicacy in this frenetic city. I have meditated at the top before and it was incredible. Oh, yeah, I need to mention, though - the summit is pretty jagged on much of it and all of it is rocky and though there are scattered flatter places to sit it is a popular hike so be prepared to maybe shift around a bit if you decide to sit down. I have always found an acceptable place to sit comfortably for at least 15 minutes or so, though, and I am a little bonier if that makes sense.
Dogs: There are restrictions on dogs, I believe they are seasonal in order to protect them from the heat. So if you plan on trying to bring your best buddy/buddies, you will want to confirm what the down low is on that.
Bus: the Glendale Road bus, I want to say it's route 70, has a stop just opposite the Preserve entrance and there is a crosswalk right there. The stop is right between 22nd street and 24th street, so pull the signal stop right after 24th street if you are headed Westbound or right after 22nd street if you are headed Eastbound. If you happen to miss the stop don't panic, you can walk from both the 24th and 22nd street stops. It's called Piestewa Peak..... ?Drive? I believe. There will be signs that say Mountain Preserve next or something like that. And the traffic light at the Preserve entrance has a green road sign that says Piestewa Peak Drive or Lane or whatever it is just like all the major traffic lights in Phoenix.
Anyway, go and enjoy 😄
Jennifer Herron-Ulmer
There are multiple trails with varying difficulty. I've hiked two. The peak trail is pretty rough for beginners or those that are out of shape. It's doable- but take your time and drink plenty of water. There are spots to take rests along the way. Also... Be aware of the weather. If it's over 100 degrees, think twice about hiking. It can get pretty steep. Also... No dogs allowed on the peak trails.
I don't remember the name of the other trail. But it was more even and didn't have the same elevation. You can also bring dogs on this one.
Currently there is a lot of construction in the parking areas. Finding parking is difficult.
Beautiful views on both trails. Don't feed the squirrels!
Jay Mc.
Great place to hike, I think it is not for beginners, but after doing it slowly at a time, you will get to the top and it's worth it. For a cheaper alternative than the gym, try this hike, I even saw people running, fresh air and nice people, once you are ready, I definitely recommend this trail.
C. A.
Very nice trail. Really busy and parking lots are tiny and filled up quickly. You can park on side streets before arriving to the park, it's only a 5 min walk.
Careful for rattlesnake on the trail, keep an eye on where you walk.
Adam Smith
It's a good hike with great views, but it does kind of feel like a star stepper all the way to the top. Worth doing, but not a favorite. There can be big crowds, so arrive early. It can be hiked day or night.
Anik Jha
Good quick hike. But still must have water depending on the time you are hiking.
Ben Welch
Very nice area, I usually start at the Dreamy Draw trail-head. I run a loop up from Piestewa Peak's backside and down the front to the busy populated section. I've hiked the main trail with a weighted vest of 75lbs to the top once before but have ran the trail too many times to remember. There are a lot of hikers on the main trail which is approx 1.1 miles to the top and with that finding available parking can be a pain. Nonetheless one of my favorite areas in Phoenix, the summit trail never disappoints and always kicks my a$$.
Leo Yañez
Such a great place to hike
Chris Kallies
Great trail with amazing views.
Eddie Paciga
Beautiful city views mixed with rugged desert terrain with lots of trail options and a good chunk of land to explore.
BRB12375
It is an impressive mountain. You'll have to go in early to guarantee a parking spot. After certain time, the parking spot would be so full. There are construction projects going on there so traffic can get bad. Unfortunately, the trail is not dog-friendly since it is a lot of sharp rocks. The regulars of the mountain tend to be rude so watch out for them. Otherwise, it is a great trail and please bring a lot of water with you. Be safe with these heat warning going on.
Kevin Downey
Beautiful new bridge and lots more parking. The hiking ranges from mildly challenging to extremely challenging. Tip: Park all the way at the last parking lot. Not too many people go there. So it's quiet and peaceful.
Jaime Chappell
My favorite place for a sunset. Always blessed.
Nae S
I believe it's been 1 to 2 years since I've gotten an opportunity to hike this massive beauty. Due to all of the recent and ongoing construction of the parking lots, and growing popularity, I've chosen to hike other trails in the meantime. Nevertheless, I've always found Squaw Peak (now known as Piestewa) to be the best view of the valley. During the summer months, I recommend getting an early start (5:30am is best) if you plan to hike this mountain, as it will be uncomfortably hot as the hour progresses. Hiking during the week is better than hiking on the weekend since you'll end up hiking to the trailhead from where you'll end up parking. I've seen people bring their kids to Squaw Peak, but their endurance doesn't typically last too long and they will complain most of the way up. To parents: bring water designated for your children. Do not share water with them, as you will need to keep yourself hydrated so that each of you stay safe. Overall, this is a beautiful hike that is a sight to see! :)
joseph haras
Best experience I've ever had in Arizona
Victoria H.
Overall a good trail, but be sure to read the map and the signs to make sure you definitely know where you're going. We made a wrong turn at one point and ended up on the other side of the mountain far far away from our car. Good views though! (Brings lot of water!)
Eric Varela
I would rate this trail as moderate. It has great views and is very rewarding.
Chrissy G
Dog friendly (leashed). Lots of parking and trail options. Very busy, even at 11am on a Wednesday. Bring water for you and your dog! Very rocky terrain
luz isela Nava
Easy, moderate and hard hiking trails, nice scenery access to restrooms and water, ramadas and picknick tables.
Michael Moses
Plan an hour up and the same down, and please wear hard soled shoes and bring water and then some more water. Despite the trail looking fairly smooth at the begining, you will be scrambling up rocks the higher you go.
Rescues are common... wearing flip flops and Vans will be very challenging on the way up, but next to impossible without hurting your foot or rolling your ankle on the way down.
Javon Adams
Beautiful views from trail 200
AJ SistaZ
Amazing views 45 minutes round trip to the peak
Pauline Walters
What an amazing and awesome place! Had no idea that it would draw so many people from so many different languages and national backgrounds. Families on outings from toddlers to elders and all mix in between were like pilgrims on a mission to touch the sky. Looking up to the highest peak you could see people up ahead on the trail like ants filing past in a steady flow on humanity. It was beautiful to behold.
Steve J
The trails are well maintained. Not a whole lot of garbage anywhere. There isnt a lot of parking so come early if your planning a trip up. Trails can be packed with people and have some challenging spots so try not to bring any kids and never animals. Bring lots of water and don't climb if your not used to hard hiking as some trails can be very challenging.
Flor Rincon
One of my favorite places to hike in Phoenix!
Kevin Delvalle
The Phoenix park site indicates this hike is moderately difficult. It is actually rated extremely difficult. The cause for this rating is the elevation climb is quick. The trail is clearly marked and really very easy to navigate - you do need to be in shape to make it to the top. If it is warm out go early in the morning and take extra water - you will be glad you did. Take a small snack to enjoy at the top as you celebrate your accomplishment. You will see many people that are doing this as a workout - wish I lived here it would be a trek I would love to do weekly.
Carlos Osornio
What a great hike...2.5 miles round trip to the very peak. Moderate hike mainly uphill on stairs. The views from up top are just stunning.... Definitely a good resistance training mountain... Good to run down
Tiffany Ballard
This hike was the most challenging yet for me. Beautiful scenery high winds at certain points and non stop traffic. It seems to be the local favorite destination hike. Parking is a challenge but they are currently constructing new parking areas. There are also points during the hike dust will blow in your eyes so be ware. Some steps are very deep so if you have short legs like me gloves might help. And be ready to dig deep. Although it has a lot of traffic the people that hike are kind and helpful especially to a new hiker like me. But you will see the pros run through it like a piece of cake. Even though after the hike soreness sets in quickly you'll find at the end it was worth it all. Quite a thrilling hike.
David Roman
Fantastic place to hike. They have great trails, of varying difficulty, bathroom facilities, picnic area. The views are awesome and super photogenic. Fantastic public park. This is the way it's supposed to be!
Lia Wiersma
Loved our 4.5 mile hike on the Freedom Loop! Just the amount if challenge we were looking for. Stunning desert beauty all around! We especially enjoyed the quiet solitude of the "back half" of the loop; the forward-facing side was very busy this Saturday afternoon
Yovahnna Aguilar
Very beautiful! Rough terrain, even with all the man made steps.
Jasdev Singh
Easily accessible, can go up all the way to the top for a serious challenge. Or just do the first few pit stops. Excellent views anytime but the full moon hike is one the most unique in the world, not many places has a mountain smack in the middle of the city.
moe addasi
One of my new favorite parks in phoenix area. There are plenty of parking free of charge. More than 7 different trails with different difficulties and length. Some loop around and some are straight vertical inclines. Next time I will be prepared with more water to hike more trails
DoomeStrings
The real trail is the friends we made along the way.
Martin Loehr
Did the summit and loop trail (5.5 miles total)
Did the summit first, and then did the loop clockwise. The views at the summit where pretty, but personally, I think the views at camelback are better, but this trail had less people (but still a bit crowded.)
Lots of people on the summit portion of the trail (for obvious reasons) but I felt like the only one out there during the loop which was nice. An overall decent hike.
When I hiked this trail, there was lots of construction going on, so parking was a little difficult. I went at 5:30 AM, and the parking lot was already at capacity. I had to park on the street. Lots of people opt to hike the summit in the dark and watch the sunrise at the top, so if you want to get decent parking, go early!
Chaim Milrad
Very nice place with multiple trips and different levels. Free. Pubic bathroom and water fountain
Kiwi Bean
It is definitely an intense hike, but worth the view.
Christa Lawcock
It will always be Squaw Peak to me.... They've done a great job with the new bridges and pavilions, trails are well marked but note that there is very little shade and no water. Come prepared! Snakes during snake season, keep your pups close and on leash accordingly.
G R
Beautiful day and gorgeous views. I can see why it is so busy, (but very friendly).
Maribel Neri
Challenging hike, can get crowded in the summer times so get there supper early! Great to do if you are short on time but want to hike! Take water, snack, fruit and catch a sunrise/sunset they are gorgeous!
Good hike for kids, just be careful, stay on trail and bring water and a head/flashlight for early or night hikes!
Jonathan Catron
Beautiful at the top. Its a nice hike. Tale your time . at your pace .always go woth someone. Anything can happen. Stay hydrated. Be responsible . enjoy
Patricia Hall
Visited many times. I avoid the main trail as I have dogs and don't like crowds. The other trail can be very challenging and fun. Hours could be better in summer due to heat. Say 4am to 10pm. I would recommend this trail.
Alexander W.
While this is a double black diamond(hard level hike) in the same vein as Camelback, the trail is much simpler and easier to follow. Rocks are carved like stairs going up compared to Camelbacks boulder piles. Even though they are in the same category, this is a much easier hike by comparison. Much easier to run up and down. Rocks however are more shared with smooth surfaces.
perry wilson
This hike is supposed to be one of the most difficult "easy" hikes in Phoenix. I find it somewhat challenging (as is finding parking). It's a popular hike so there are always hikers going up and down (and sometimes their music as well) but I recommend giving the Summit Trail a try.
christopher adams
Met so many nice people here. Parking is excellent, they just renovated it recently and made it so much more accessible. The hike can be hard if you don't take breaks but otherwise you'll be able to reach the peak in about an hour
Dolores Garcia
So AMAZING, ALWAYS AMAZING, come across the friendliest people as well!!
Shawna Johnson
My daughter chose the trail here. It was a nice walk. The little trail signs that were on this path were blank. Out of six trail guides only two had information on them. So we missed out on what we were suppose to look at. I think it was the cactus because the two That were visible were about cactus. It was a nice day not too many people but parking was hard to find. Ago that would be the only down side. Parking. There's restrooms and pavilions for bbqs.
Chris Joondeph
I’m in decent shape and the hike took us about 40 minutes to the top and approximately 25 minutes down. The view from the top is only marginally better than half way up so if you’re not in great shape, go up as far as you can because it is still really nice.
Nailah Tenner
Excellent diverse hiking trails for all levels, with well marked paths, markers path info and signage. Drive is newly paved however parking is limited and frequently an issue- highly recommend car pooling. Peak times as expected for parking but the hikes are worth the walk!
A Z
Nice urban hiking area. It always feels super busy here, and the last time I came I could hardly find a single spot. I arrived close to 8 am on a weekend. There was just so many cars. I wasn't the only car circling around for a spot either. Quite of few of them pacing about.... In the end, I had to park further down the street.
I admit, I got a good workout here, but I don't think I'll be back soon just due to how extremely crowded it is.
Katira Rogers
Beautiful mountain to go hiking..with many trails and ditches..if you do go to this mountain, please be extra cautious and keep hydrated. There are some dangerous areas and snake holes. Yet it was a super awesome experience.
Ronald Walker
This is a hard trail and is not for the faint of heart! It's long, steep, jagged and slippery! it seems like a lot of people don't like to bring enough water so I can't stress "HYDRO PACK" enough an a extract bottle just incase. Great view, some shade in spots but the killer we'll be the PARKING!! Make sure your prepared; there is nothing worse than having to get airlifted off of a mountain because you chose not to be prepared!
Jaclyn Redar
Hard if you're fat and out of shape like me. Beautiful views at the top.
Wilson Kailiponi
What an amazing and awesome place! Had no idea that it would draw so many people from so many different languages and national backgrounds. Families on outings from toddlers to elders and all mix in between were like pilgrims on a mission to touch the sky. Looking up to the highest peak you could see people up ahead on the trail like ants filing past in a steady flow on humanity. It was beautiful to behold. The vista of the surrounding environs was breathtaking ( no puns intended). All in all a wonderful experience I will long remember. I am here on holiday from Northern california and I am so impressed with Arizona and its people. Happy Thanksgiving.
Ritchie Adkins
I have been hiking this mountain since I was a young boy with my father.
This mountain is the best way to get out of town without ever leaving town !!
Always love it
Tamicca Hawkins
Took a hike with my sons and my good friend. It was perfect weather to go and it was not too crowded. Make sure you wear appropriate shoes and bring water.
Aaron Shiley
I love this little hike. Great work out! I did it by moonlight tonight!
Liz Csikar
Relatively short hike but with lots of elevation change. Easily completed in 2 hours and the path is easy to follow and stable (not a lot of loose sand/rocks). Great views of the valley at the top!
Daniel Gonzales
The hike is ambitious, but well worth the effort. We started out at 8am, but should have started at 7am, as the temp rose to 100 degress in June...and the end was really tough. Make sure to take plenty of water!
Renae Pavilonis
Always an amazing hike to the peak! This is a difficult and steep hike so come prepared with lots of water, and go early before the heat of the day sets in. The views of downtown Phoenix are beautiful. The fellow hikers are friendly and committed.
Eric Elliott
Parking lot under construction right now so there is limited convenient parking, but what a beautiful hike! I wouldn't recommend the peak hike for people with young children because there are very steep drop-offs and lots of tall steps. If you are moderately in shape or better, this trail is doable! But if you choose to go, make sure you take your trash home with you. Way too many plastic bottles at the top. It's a shame!!
Sgt Crank
It a awesome trail but construction making park hard
Alex Bridgeforth
This is the best mountain hike in the Phoenix area. Love it.
C Alexander
I like to hike here because the route I take is not too difficult for me, its listed as moderate. Its about 1 and a half miles which is perfect for me to do a few times a week. I cant do steep serious hiking so that trail is perfect for me. I think it was trail 304. It is quite busy so if you dont like people you may not like it.
Troy Morrison
I haven't been here in a while because of construction but they have finished construction on the main parking lot and everything looks amazing. Awesome bathroom setup. Fountain to fill water bottles. No more one way parking lot to get trapped in. It looks like things are only going to get better as they work on the upper parking lots.
SARAH ARGUIJO
Absolutely gorgeous! This place is worth the sweat and sore muscles once you reach the top.
Jay Moeller
Lots of water fountains and bathrooms at the base. Challenging hike up the mountain but should only take 75-100 minutes up and down. Need to be in reasonable shape though. It's like climbing a rocky set of very jagged stairs.
Luis Garcia
My fav place to hike with easy and extremely hard trails depending on your skill level. Complete with facilities, picnic areas and the scenery is breathtaking. The people friendly small wild life is a huge bonus.
Jana M
I've been hiking Piestewa Peak mountain since I was 11 years old. The view is breath taking, you can see the entire Valley from the top! The hike up is not easy so be sure to wear proper hiking shoes and bring plenty of water, but well worth it. It's become my mediation time, connecting back with nature. After busy work day, I put on my hiking shoes and head to the mountain, it's one of the best method do de-stress, while getting a good workout. During summer it's best to hike early in the morning like 5AM or at night at 6PM to avoid the harsh sun.
Angela Donovan
Beautiful hike
Brandon Keith
Nice trails nice park!!
Patricia Labas
Beautiful but a difficult climb for a novice.
Teresa J
The views from the top do not disappoint at all. I love hiking and met my hiking buddy here to enjoy the views and talk with other fellow hikers at the top too. It took me about an hour to hike the trail due to an Intercoastal muscle Strain so I did have to stop a few times to catch my breathe and just take in the views. There are some benches along trail #300 you can sit on and just enjoy the views the valley. We will definitely be back to thos trail later down the road.
Amanda Martin
Absolutely fantastic. A diversity of trails for a diversity of hiking experiences. You'll never lose cell service, however, and most of the park is pretty heavily trafficked. Most of the trails are pup-friendly. Piestewa Peak is a Phoenix classic.
Michael Bialobryski
Its October and the weather was perfect for this hike. We did the A1 trail and it was slightly challenging with a steep climb, but there is a great opportunity for some Phoenix skyline pics. If you want to take pics, try to go after a rain for a cleaner sky. Also, make sure your dog is accustomed to hikes. Ours tore a pad. He wasn't ready for the hike...
Matt Dragon
A lot of fun. The history is awesome 😎. It's not easy but it's a simple trail walking up natural groomed stairs to the top. …
Tanner Swenson
A fantastic place to hike in Phoenix! Parking can be a bit tricky but never takes more than 10 minutes to find a spot if you keep looking.
Chandramouli Subrahamanayan
Was a great trek. Loved the experience.
Scott Esplin
Piestewa Peak is a nice place to hike close to the city. Very popular in the mornings and gets pretty crowded, so it's best to avoid those times. Most people hike straight up the mountain but you can take the trail around it or explore other parts of the preserve. Night hikes are always great in the summer because it's cool (relatively) and not crowded at all.
Matt Mensinger
It's a steep hike, but the park is very well kept and the 360 views are worth the climb. Be ready for a challenge and bring lots of water along with some snacks or lunch.
Kevin Crosse
One of the best most compact fun hikes in the Phoenix area it will definitely test your endurance level
Elizabeth Thornburg
Beautiful views, got to meet a lot of great people who was hiking with family and friends including children.💞 Remember take plenty of water to drink, maybe some snacks just in case you need a little something to eat and be careful because there could be unseen dangers. Let family and friends know where you are going and what trails you are going to hike. Also when you should be back. Remember Safety First!!
aaron westerfield
Difficult difficult difficult. If you are looking for a stroll or a hike with the family I would not go and find a different trail. The views from the top are amazing, especially when you catch them at sunrise. As of mid-July theit is a ton of construction but once it's done you can tell it will be super nice.
Jennifer Love
I like this mountain. I actually think it's harder than Camelback mountain
Vince Loschiavo
Fun rocky hike to the top!
Samantha Wishner
This hike is great for sunset views. Right now there is so much construction you are lucky to get parking. There are people camping at the top and too many tourists are getting sick on the trail. One guy was smoking pot at the peak. It's become so packed it's hard to run the trail anymore.
Jeremy Szollosi (Good Times Rollin)
Great short hike that really makes for a quick workout out due to the rapid increase in elevation. Once you reached the peak the view is your payoff! Tge sunset was amazing and took less than 2 hours to hike.
Al Harbison
This is so nice to go to. They have ramadas and barbecue pits. Really nice maintained hiking trails that let you see around The Valley of the Sun. Clean restroom his/hers. Park Rangers on duty and historical photos and stories posted on billboards. But it is one of the most beautiful things to see a sunrise or a sunset and a center of Phoenix Arizona!
Benjamin Padilla
This is one of the best places to hike in the Phoenix area. There are several trail heads with varying difficulties. I like that they have made a ton more parking spaces so people aren't parking on the side of the as much (Still happens).
Cindy Garza
Love this place! Lots of different trails to hike and really nicely maintained facilities! The summit hike isa great challenge for the fit hiker and can be really crowded but there are lots of other awesome hikes!
JD Perdue
One of the tougher hikes in the city but well worth the effort.
Ez Martinez
Very nice clean and organized trail. A bit difficult, but definitely worth the work out if you can get to the top. The view is beautiful.
Christian Nerone
A great place to hike and meet new friends from all over the valley and winter visitors too. The ammentities on site have been updated and the hike offers a good challenge physically.
Tom C
This is one of the most used of the City of Phoenix desert preserve parks. Currently undergoing massive improvements that limit parking, the park still has wonderful trails that meet any level of effort you want. I've been going here for over 25 years, and still love it.
Ronald Thomas
Great let workout! Take plenty of water!
Dianeth Garcia
climbing the mountain with my brother it was a great experience.
Mea Angel
Fun for the whole family and beautiful views
Michael Gorman
This is a great park to do local hikes. It has moderate as well as challenging climbs and terrains. The views from the peaks give you a great view of Phoenix and the surrounding landscape.
Tim Montague
Awesome and quite technical hiking trails near Phoenix. Beautiful scenery and lots of verticality. Not for the timid. Highly recommended!
james seurat
If there is one hike that I would recommend to somebody visiting Phoenix it would be Piestewa Peak. The views are just as good as Camelback, and the hike is much easier. After about 1.2 miles of what feels like mother nature's stair-stepper, you will be happy that you didn't stop to take pictures at any one of the 4-5 rest benches (that do also have great views...but keep going. Trust me.)
Jay Klinger
Nice hike great views. quite challenging. Little bit of trash thrown off the trails. Next time I'll take a trash bag for the 10% of the trashy people that feel the need to destroy God's beauty.
Eduardo Fernandez
Arrive earlier than 7pm if you want to catch the sunset. The hike is short but steep. Average time 30-45 mins to the summit. Bring plenty of water. I like it more here in the evenings ... great workout too
Shannon Hernandez
Stunning views when you hike up this mountain. Just a word of caution, I have sprained my ankle twice on this mountain due to not wearing the right shoes. Highly recommend that you wear HIKING SHOES, not trail runners. You can easily roll and ankle coming down and you don't want the helicopters to come pick you up.
Nolan D
This is a great area for a full days hike, or just an hour or two. Many different trails to choose from. The trails are tough enough for adults but can still be easy enough for kids. So, put on that camelback and get going.
Beau Newton
Great hike. Straight and to the point. It's all in the pacing! Bring plenty of water, but the view from the top is worth it. Friendly people on the trail. Always felt safe on this trail.
Jarae Burton
This is once of my favorite weekday hiking spots. It's right off the freeway and an easy spot to take tadult and children tourists for a short, enjoyable weekday hike
Here there are some rigorous trails for hiking but mostly it is just relaxed and enjoyable. There are some mountain bikes and dogs but not as many as the 40th street trails.
There is lots of parking, a really nice paved bike path and bbq ramada near the SOUTHERN trailhead
There is also horse trailer parking.
There is little shade on this trail unless you take the NORTHERN trail entrance where there is a little canyon.
Mike Boik
Most of this hike feels like climbing stairs before a challenging incline takes place the views are always welcome in the morning when the sun rises. A nice place to watch the sun rise(or set I imagine)
Laura Mullikin
Beautiful views and a fairly challenging climb at times. currently the parking lot is being renovated so it was a little bit challenging to find the start of the trailhead. Well trafficked. I would definitely recommend it to others.
Manuel Añep
Magical views and very handsome people climbing
Ryan
Beautiful park in the middle of Phoenix. The hike to Piestewa Peak is a great ass and leg burner, but there are a number of networking trails throughout the park that are worth taking. Bring the kids, don’t forget your water and good footwear, and enjoy a one of Phoenix’s greatest treasures.
MeltingAsh
It's a VERY long hike, almost 4 miles to the peak and back to the summit, and it's very steep at points. But definitely worth the hike. The view is breathtaking.
J Kane
Absolutely beautiful up top! It is a difficult hike with the incline, but totally worth it once you finish! If you're thinking about a morning hike on the weekend, give this one a shot
Noel Getting
Great view of entire valley!! HEAVILY trafficked- even at 6:00am. Good hike, good workout. Moderate. Not dog friendly. Parking lots full, parking along road.
Gabriel Cruz
Get here early on weekends before 7am, I advise beginners bring plenty of water. If hiking in the evening bring a small flashlight. The views of the valley are very beautiful, in various spots and I always make a friend or two when hiking here.
Sanjeeev Kumar
Awesome place for hike
Gautier Parfait
A great place to do some (challenging) hiking 💪 it is only a couple minutes drive from downtown Phoenix …
stephen “stephen jams” rusnock
At night this place turns into thunder mountain in disneyland. The wooden bridge, lantern lighting, only people's headlamp lights seen on the trail. You can hear the train coming if you listen closely.
Cari Payne
The stark solitude of the desert is beautiful and dangerous. Enter at your own risk. For experienced hikers, Dreamy Draw, Piestewa Peak Park, and trails within them are easy to moderate workouts. For the novice, these hikes can turn into a bad day if you don't bring enough water, proper clothes, shoes, or hike past your body's limits (IE, ability to tolerate high temps). If you're prepared, enjoy screaming hawks, chuckwalla, little lizards, and Saguaro cacti, among other living things. There are many trails criss-crossing each other, and bikers, hikers, and horseback-riders all have something to enjoy. My one complaint: where the hell are the doors on the bathroom stalls in the women's restroom?? 🤔
Other than that, enjoy the great outdoors ⛰🏜
Robert Henry
Multiple parking lots, nice restrooms. Different levels of hikes. Nice view.
Piyush Patel
Great place nice views and clean.
robert tobiason
Really nice place to go hiking for a beautiful view of Phoenix.
Bob Small
Wonderful morning hike. Lots of people to help out if you get tired or need help. Some twist ankles and other hikers will carry you back down. So great.
Luis Felix
I've hiked here for many years, the main popular trail is slightly challenging for new comers but once you've made it to the top, the view is beautiful and breath taking. You can see all of Phoenix. Other small trails are easy but still fun, you can take your dogs up certain trails only. There is bathrooms, water drinking fountains and specific locations for grill outs. Definitely a fun adventurous outing. Arizona is a desert so preferably use hiking boots or thick sole shoes, cactus prickles and thorns sometimes find themselves into your foot if soles are thin. Take plenty of water. Hiking at night requires headlamps and preferably strong modern LEDS, it gets extremely dark and you will sometimes encounter submissive wildlife such as rattlesnakes, screech owls, coyotes, jackrabbits, cottontail rabbits, ground squirrels and foxes. Just grab a small backpack or waist pouch, hat, water, and get going!
Leonard V Sominsky
Best difficult level hike in Phoenix!
Michael Trujillo
Me and my son Levi had a great time!
Daryl McCray
Great steep and rocky trail! An excellent leg workout, this mountain ascent is an amazing series of rock steps. There are precious few handrails, so you'd better be agile. Nice views at the top.
The parking is free at the trailhead, but there are no services.
I think that camelsback mountain (north of Scottsdale) is more difficult because scrambling over big rocks is required, but both trails will make someone nervous if they are afraid of heights. Both trails take around two hours to complete.
suzanne starke
Very serene. Lots of shade and a nice breeze. All while taking in beautiful sites all around, of breathtaking mountains, cactus, brush and unique rocks. Also, with a nice vantage of the city of downtown Phoenix.
Robert Smith
I still love climbing it in my 50s
Randy DeGier
Beautiful mountain trails in the Phoenix city limits! The park has trails for all hikers...easy to difficult.
Duncan Tucker
A wonderful natural park inside the city. Hiking, bike, and equestrian trails for those who like to be active. Ramadas for those who prefer not. There is local wildlife running around as well. Parking can get tight on busy times so get there early.
Hydrocurve87
A beautiful park in commemorative of Laurie Piestewa.
Inja Vojnovic
Great night hike!
Teanne Sandoval
A holy grail for Pokemon if you are fellow trainers. I love going hiking on this peak, it isn't very crowded and is very quiet. Getting to the top makes you have an incredible feeling. Beautiful view of the city and a nice challenge.
Sarah B
Excellent news. We visited in January and parking was easy. Don't miss the summit trail.
Max Sharp
Fun hike and not too hard or anything. There’s a lot of rocks and switchbacks. Overall good, relatively easy hike with some pretty good views at the top.
James Trowbridge
It was hard. Climbing and looking up it seemed never ending until it finally did. If you haven't been going up stairs every day for at least a year, this will be difficult. I'd recommend 3 bottles of water for beginners too.
Adam Adamkowski
The trial signed as extremely difficult. Thats True but for last 15 min of hiking. Getting the pik takes appx 2 hours of really slowly walking. There are some place where high attention is required. Excellent place to burn some calories.
Paul MacLaren
Excellent peak to tackle without having to drive away from the city at all! It does get crowded and it is a bit of a climb, so come early and bring plenty of water!
kathiravan subramaniaswamy
It's not suitable for kids and not for average health persons. But the valley view is really good .
htuy42
Great views and a great variety of trails, something for everyone. The ground is fairly rough, so people expecting a well paved trail might want to stay away, but otherwise a perfect hiking spot.
Brendan Lawler
Beautiful view of the city of Phoenix. It should be called the petrified wood trail. As you hike up higher, the petrified would is everywhere. Very enjoyable hike. Just bring a bottle of water with as you will need it.
Donald Diamond
Nice challenge on Freedom trail. bring water! Plenty of amazing views. approximately 3 hours with breaks. no trouble parking.
Shark's Dad
Lots of climbing, great hike!
Start early!
Raymond Hon
One of the best trails in Phoenix AZ. Moderate in difficulty, great cardio workout due to the steepness but trail is mostly semi paved so not as rough as say Echo Canyon trail
Juan Alvarez
Breathtaking landscape, shaded picnic tables and well marked trails. A place to connect with the nature and spend quality time with the kids.
Paul Rapuano
Awesome hike. Well maintained parks. The park rangers are great and have a visable presence on the mountain. The park ranger even gave my son a Junior Park Ranger Sticker Badge. It made his day.
blake laramie
Great hike and scenery. Stairmaster. Jagged rocks. Under construction currently for parking & restrooms. I meet a lot of kind hearted people there. Most of us still call it Squaw Peak.
Robert Rivera
Very nice, clean park and trailhead. Park rangers are nice and helpful, but park and trail are usually very busy during the best times to hike.
Vincente Robles
Awesome hiking nice trails. When your hiking about mid way up the mountain there are natural springs just flowing into small water falls very nice beautiful scenery.
Steve DiNenna
Loved hiking here. Had an amazing experience atop one of the peaks. Encountered all sorts of random wonders. Keep your eyes peeled or all you'll see is rocks. :)
Lorrie Massie
It was a beautiful hike. Gorgeous views from the top! Take your time...and everyone can make it!
Sierra Rode
Very short hike to the peak but very steep.
Brian Verbil
It's a very rough trail. Make sure your shoes are sturdy! The view from the top is, in my opinion, the best in the valley, even better than Camelback.
Michael Landis
Incredible hike and great views of the valley
Pharaoh Lamothe
I love this mountain. Great hikes, plenty of trails, easy access. Can get a bit crowded depending on time of day, but not unreasonable.
Dan Zimmerman
Good challenging hike. Probably my favorite do far in Phoenix with the challenge to get up and then the views of the surrounding mountain ranges
piink rose
This mountain is very challenging but at the end it is so worth it. A little hard for beginners but its not impossible, it can be done. This time of weather is perfect for hiking
Brandon Sweeter
Awesome hike, did this hike with my wife and teenage boys. It was just enough of a challenge to make it feel like a easy workout. Would definitely do it again.
Daniel Rodriguez
Went up on a Sunday morning so it was a bit crowded but manageable all in all a very pleasurable experience
jose aranda
Very nice place to take a hike.
Rudy A
Beautiful hiking trail although it is for a little more experienced people make sure you are a good hiker since this Trail is rated extremely difficult per the signs posted
John Maurer
Short and steep, but a good local hike. There were a lot of people trying to run. Really busy for runners and hikers at the same time.
Vincent Masse
Great views of the city. Busy trail but met lots of nice people along the way. Don't wear gym shoes, hiking boots are necessary.
Ike Waits
We started at dreamy draw access. First trail signs/markers not clear. I guess i am Old school as still like good trail markers and looking at scenery instead of looking ay phone app to assure myself i am on correct route.
Kimberley Moyer
Great place for hiking. Lots of trails not just the summit trail. Also lots of picnic tables and great places to sit and enjoy the gorgeous desert views.
Me So
Great trails.
Celeste Jacroux
So many people plan on hiking to the summit of pasta peak that they forget that there are so many other trails out there to hike. Once you get to the middle of the park you don't hear any other civilization other than occasional plane flying over.
Daniel Hammerberg
I love this trail but parking can be a problem. Either go early or go late. There are restrooms and drinking fountains in the parking areas. I am still giving it 5 stars because it's just a great trail.
Lucy Brito
I love hiking here!! The only downside is that it gets way too crowded once temps are better and parking sucks during this time.
Sinjin 62
I haven't been there in many years...was a great hike the last time I was there. To me, it's still Squaw Peak, can't even pronounce this wacky new name. Rotten shame that some people feel compelled to change all the place names to "politically correct" junk.
Deadlies Blood
I was exhausted but ,great place if you're looking for a challenge ,just be safe ,if you're going to hike go at the crack of dawn so you can get back down before it gets hot,And it's a longer hike then you think.
Jesse Anglen
Awesome trail, rated extremely difficult, however I'm 275lb and I tackled 80% of it, not too bad. So don't be discouraged because you're heavier set.
Benji-Alan Begay
I'm from Albuquerque and it was my first time around that area including up and down Piestewa Peak. It was Beautiful on the way up and down.
William Beebe
Love this place..lots of trails of differing skill levels right in the middle of the city. Which..does make parking tough at certain times. Have heard of ramping issues recently..reminder to be careful out there guys! Ramping on trails can be no joke..
John Bison
Nice steady hike, the difficulty is what you make out of it. Some even do it twice !!
Bertha Poah
You want to go far? Take you lovely companion 🐕 …
Dragonfly Rich
My favorite hike
