Went to the first day of reopening and it was so much more than I expected. Lots of green space, seating, sculptures, and my favorite part: an awesome play area for kiddos of all ages. The playground had a rock climbing wall and lots of other climbing and balance activities. I didn't get to explore all if it because my kiddo was glued to the play area. We enjoyed our time and will definitely be back!

I personally love this park . It’s nice and open and modern. There’s lots of places to sit. And the kids area is fully fenced off just not the opening to get in. It’s definitely got a lot of areas that involve climbing and gets out a lot of energy for kids. The bathrooms in the kids area are also pretty nice as well. Wasn’t cold to us at least and had a changing table it’s turf for grass and it’s definitely a spot to go to if you have kids that have a lot of energy for a long time.

The newly redeveloped “Gene Leahy Mall” is the first of three new parks that are part of the “The Riverfront” redevelopment project. The redeveloped park is now a massive and incredible community space that makes Omaha feel like an actual destination city. The park features a multitude of new and exciting things to do, see, and explore. Most notable is the Arches Playground adjacent to the Historic Arch which features a multi-level adventure play space with a bouldering wall, slides, below ground play area, obstacle course style equipment, and endless fun for kids of all ages. Additionally the park includes a cascading water area that acts like a modern splash pad, swing patio benches, a hammock area, fire pits, sculpture garden, ping pong tables, and a massive amphitheater for outdoor events. The old slides of Gene Leahy mall were preserved and a new slide and a grass hill that kids have found is great for rolling down (and maybe sledding in the winter) is also present. This park is highly impressive and on par with parks I have visited in places like San Francisco, Chicago, or Los Angeles..

The updates in this park were fantastic! Clean and warm bathrooms throughout (we went in winter). The holiday lights were great, the slides provide hours of fun! The new jungle gym area was enormous. I can't wait to take my kids here in the summer!

The new renovated Gene Leahy Mall is a sight to come and see!! Perfect for kids of all ages,they have the slides, waterfall ,a fun playground ,dog park, concert venue, beautiful lagoon, I was really impressed with the layout. It will definitely be a place that I will be coming to often with my kids!!

Loved it! As a wheelchair user, it was so easy to get around. I could see many accessibility features seamlessly designed into the space. Even the slides have transfer points for those with limited mobility.

Great park to walk around at all times of the day and night. Plenty of seating and picnic tables with shade. The vibe here is friendly and adds to the sense of community. A very large kids playground is utilized to the full effect by kids of all ages. The patroling security adds to the relaxed feeling here.

The new mall is amazing! Kid friendly play area. The swings and hammocks are great! The one downfall is the area that has water on the pedestals. There were so many small children playing in this water area. Its slick and a few kids fell. This is a dangerous area for the little ones.

Such a fun place for the whole family - of all ages. Pretty sights to see while walking around... fire pits, games, playground, hammocks, swings, giant slides (plus smaller slides for the younger kids). The restrooms & grounds have always been clean, each time we've visited. There is a beautiful center stage where sometimes you'll find live entertainment. Best of all, it's free! What a great way to spend time outdoors with family.

Simply amazing was my initial thought! Since moving from Omaha, NE, this was my 1st time seeing the Gene Leahy Mall since the upgrade. This was needed Omaha, awesome job! Nice lawn and picnic area, the soundstage is a nice bonus. I can only imagine seeing a live performance there. They expanded the park area, which is really nice. Then, you have the view of downtown Omaha! The best part, my daughter was with me to experience Dad's hometown 🥰

This is a really neat outdoor area w a dog park, 50 ft slides, oversized swings, hammocks, open fire pits, wall climbing area & a large twisted ramp style play area that kids can climb on, that also have seats at the top for kids to take a break in. Apparently the area is only about 1/3 complete & we already want to come back again. My kids ages 4, 7, 10 & 11 loved it.

Welcome to the newest edition of outdoor fun in Gene Leahy mall in Omaha. It has an excellent park with picnic tables, shelters, water park, childrens play area, slides, rock climbing in the heart of downtown. There is restrooms as well which are very clean. Lots of fun for kids and good place for a family outing.

Wonderful community and family space. I saw people making making smores over fire pit and dogs enjoying the dog park area. Beautiful redone and very kid friendly. We enjoyed treats from the ice cream truck, sculptures and the waterway with ducklings. Water vegetation and all the landscaping was wonderfully thought out.

From a walk in the park to lounging by a fire or in a hammock, there definitely is tons for the family and friends to do ..wonderful splash pad and big slides even a rolling hill for the kids big grass area for picnics or a movie rite next to a huge play set for kids ..this is such a wonderful improvement to downtown Omaha and still improving!!! Even very clean restrooms. Day or night they have you covered here

Name something not to do here!!! Swings to sit on, hammocks to lay on, benches to have lunch with others, seating all around, large areas to run around, DOG PARK, fountains to play in, slides to slide down, ducks to watch, and all around just so so much space! I was skeptical with them ripping out the old Gene Leahy but I'm not going to lie, this went above my standards. I don't live anywhere near downtown but I don't mind coming down here to walk, take my dog, or have lunch! This is totally worth it and thank you Omaha for making it a beautiful space! ❤

I appreciate Omaha for being something in-between a true city and a giant suburb, but this park is the most "urban" experience I've ever had in Omaha. And as Omaha usually does, they did an amazing job on this. I assume those involved with its design and construction will be in the running for whatever national awards there are for that kind of thing. Take your kids, any age. Take your dog. Or just take yourself. Everyone loves it.

Looks fantastic and has great atmosphere after the renovation. The best addition, in my opinion, is the nearly limitless seating choices. There are chairs and benches nearly everywhere to sit, relax, and take in the views.

A wonderful improvement of downtown Omaha's greenspace. The remodel has brought so much life to the downtown area! For those visiting it offers a beautiful space to explore and enjoy the outdoors with features to entertain the kids and adults alike. The space offers downtown workers a well-needed respite from their work and a way to step away from the day to day for a moment. The green space is a wonderful spot for everyone to run around on. Amenities such as water features, ping pong tables, and art features offer an opportunity to enjoy time with friends and family or simply time to enjoy by yourself. The walk to the dog park and toward the eventual site of the riverside park is great as well and is a sign of good things to come.

The face-lift that Omaha needed! So much nicer than what it was before! There are places to walk and sit, a huge playground for kids, ping-pong tables, 2 dog parks, and a green space for concerts. Just overall pleasant and lovely...brings the city together!

I went for the holiday lights festival and it was a wonderful experience I hadn't been downtown to check out Gene Leahy mall for many years due to the reconstruction. It is absolutely beautiful now that it is redone. I think with all the new picnic places and sections for hanging out will bring people down and out into omaha

Good place for kids and adults. They have a play ground for kids and walking trails for adults. There were plenty of parking spaces when we went during the weekend. They have public restrooms. Parking is 1.25/hr, meter parking.

This park is similar to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden but is equally as beautiful in its own way. There are plenty of open areas with greeneries, and seating. The layout is designed for a walking path around a central area with more intimate areas for the side of the walk way. There are plenty of things to do for all ages; from swings to sleds to fire pits to dog parks to water splash areas! The park is linked to 2 other parks (construction is on going in some other ones) as a part of the RiverFront rejuvenation project. I would recommend coming here to relax and de stress or for a nice jog or bring the family and dog too!

I was skeptical when the first thing they did after closing the park was rip out all the trees but they really went above and beyond putting in plenty of things for families to do. I'm a bit worried that someone will get hurt on the play fountains. There are a lot of sharp corners and loose stones. Other than that the city seems to be doing a pretty good job keep it clean and safe.

I remember back to the old park. Loved the staple water feature through the entire thing. However the new park brings in a lot more functionality providing large event space, lots of seating areas, an amazing playground, dog areas and the famous slides. The plants make a good separation from the busy downtown streets, making it a nice place to roam around in. It is also quite close to a large amount of corporate offices in downtown making it a nice spot for employees to go out to take a break from the stuffy offices. There are also some art pieces and a sort of splash waterfall for the kids to play in. If you are in downtown Omaha and have food to eat, you should definitely stop by the park and check it out.

The city park we all need! I take out-of-town visitors here, and they love to take pictures of the skyline. I usually stop by for a walk if I’m downtown. The playground is not your average playground: clearly thoughtfully designed, complete with a bouldering/climbing wall. (However, adults are only allowed when chaperoning.) The amphitheater area is great for live music in the summer and community gatherings in the winter. Clean restrooms, cheap parking, safe. No complaints.

The newly remodeled Gene Leahy Mall is a treasure in Omaha and an engineering win that is recognized globally. The kids playground is remarkable and innovative utilizing structure I have never seen elsewhere. Family restrooms are located on the east side and have been very clean during all my visits. The slide portion is legendary and the new water steps are so much fun. The dog park and hammock areas are also executed perfectly.

This is a must visit part of Omaha. Nestled in downtown this mall (park) is a great asset to the community! Great public gathering place with activities to keep a family busy for hours. Great place to explore and take the kids out for outdoor activity. I loved the fireplace feature, although I think they had it shut off when we were there since they wouldn't function for us 🤷🏾 Overall, a great area for families. I loved the roving security and workers cleaning the area.

There’s also vendors in the area that sell ice cream and snacks in case you get hungry while you’re out there. And if you go at night, it’s all lit up and pretty. Gene Leahy Mall is such a great addition to the Omaha metro! I was blown away with the design. They've got several swings (kids and adults), tall long slides (not too fast), a futuristic jungle gym, a dog park, a few fire pits with chairs around them, many tables with chairs, a big field and a pond that is an ice skating rink during the cold winter months. Also, they play movies on occasion and have different events here. Highly recommend for families or couples!

Great renovation. The park now has tables to sit at, hammocks to relax in, fire pits to warm up. They also put in a dog park so your doggie companions have a place to run. The iconic slides are still there as well. Great place to visit!

The renovations to the park are excellent. So much more to do, more places to sit, play and relax with the family. They've added two smaller slides next to the two big, original ones, as well as a roller slide for a bumpy ride. Just west of the slides are bench swings that have the feel of ski lifts but are much lower to the ground and can easily fit 3 or 4 people. The food truck presence is hit or miss, you never know what you're going to find. Often times the picnic area in the southwest corner of the park is closed off for private events. This park gets PACKED on the weekends, especially Sunday nights. Now that summer is over, the playground is best in the afternoons on weekdays or the mornings on weekends. Please note that adults are only allowed on the playground if they are with kids, and I have seen them kick people out. To start a fire in the fire pits, you have to find one of the staff members in a blue polo to do it for you. If you're a runner and wanting to take a jog here, early mornings are best otherwise it's too crowded.

The Gene Leahy Mall is a great place for a walk, a picnic, outdoor games, ping pong, a great time around the fire pit, etc. etc. Everything is new and beautiful! The playground is enclosed with a fence and there is seating for the adults who bring kids here. There are tables and chairs everywhere... There are public restrooms; they were open during the public event I have attended. There is a dog park at the East side of the park.

Great place for all ages and all activities for all seasons! They have events that are family friendly. One thing to note: the play area is not the most accessible to those with disabilities. It would be nice to see the play areas that are adaptive. Otherwise, it's a great family place.

Though it has changed it's look I say it's an improvement and bringing in more people of all ages to enjoy the park and the surrounding areas. With the much needed upgrade there is now a concert area where you can enjoy music. There is now a playground area for children to enjoy even though teenagers use it to bully the children and make out with one another. There is now a dog park area where you can take your furry friend and let them run around for a bit. Be careful some dogs are not too friendly. The only downfall is the rudeness of the people of Omaha who not considerate of those who are also around them. (Pick up your k9s waste)

It's a great place to walk around or just sit and relax. There are plenty of areas for kids to run, jump climb and even splash around a bit. It was really clean and I found parking very close. There were picnic tables, a sculpture garden, a playground and bathrooms. There was one food truck, but if you are looking to dine in there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Gorgeous park that can accommodate all ages. I spent the afternoon with my niece here and we had plenty of things to do for a couple hours. Definitely bring a frisbee or other outdoor sports equipment if you are coming with teens/adults.

Hey! It's me again, I wanted to tell yall that the new Gene Leahy Mall definately has it's perks. The bandshell is a great addition. I'm so glad the kept the slides and the stone gate. Adding the firepits, picnic areas, jungle gyms, and game area is super classy. Although I miss the many waterfalls, a big thumbs up on the new layout. The new Gene Leahy Mall lends itself to everyone having a good time not just thr adults. Go to Gene Leahy Mall and watch your children run all that extra kid energy off.

I was in awe at the way everything looked. It took my breath away. Every Sunday we'd go downtown and just walk around. It became part of our Sunday thing. Then we came down on New Year's Eve and again, we were taken by the amazing Holiday light decorations, the music and then fireworks. It was all amazing. Great job city of Omaha!!

They've completely redone the area. What used to be mostly for walking or jogging now has tons of play areas (including a children only zone, additional slide, and astroturf hill for rolling down) peppered with pavilions, seating areas, fire pits, etc, it is definitely a family destination now. And if you're a family that's a good thing. As a not-family (no children) person, I liked the more adult configuration better with the river and walking path. I'm in the minority, I know, but I chopped a star off for that, as it is no longer my go-to walking destination in Omaha anymore. As I said, it's a beautiful park, with a good use of space, and they added restrooms to it, which is a star all its own, but I can't help but miss the old park.

I love the renovations. Took my family there last week, found it was a great improvement to the area but still keeping the giant slides was an awesome way to keep the nostalgia going. The play area is great for kids, plenty to climb and explore. The new slide additions pair well with the old ones. And the water feature is actually brilliant because parents can walk through it as well without worrying about getting splashed or sprayed from a fountain.

This mall is hardly recignizable from what it used to be. The slides are still there and the pond is there. They have added a dog park that takes up half the north side of the park, divided up for small dogs and big dogs, the children's playground is amazing with a rock climbing wall, all kinds of things to climb up on, tunnels to crawl through. They also have a row of family sized porch swings, fire pits, lots of pond-side sitting, and big hammocks. There always seems to be concession trucks of some kind there and the public restrooms are very nice and well kept. I will say the vibe at night is a lot different than the vibe during the day.

There can be no comparison between the old & new park. Hammocks, remote control fire pits, locking restrooms and I dare not mention the miniature playgrounds hovering just above eye level. There are attendants who do not swagger or intimidate but offer services. Screaming kids will never be a pleasure. Bums are bound to make a mess. There is NO shade. I am prepared to endure such nuisances for the privilege of enjoying my favorite park in Omaha.

I think it's a nice place, and the redesign is good. However, it is across from what was the Main Branch of the Omaha Public Library. I would rate this 100%, if the Downtown Public Library with it's 6 stories, located between Douglas and Farnam on 14 Street had been remodeled and left there for the public, instead of allowing a corporation to buy public land. That's the mayor's real legacy.

This is a very nice place to have fun with the family. Local sellers bring food trucks and/or carts with yummy snacks. There are playgrounds for the kids, as well as slides and water features for the kiddos to use. Plan in bringing a swimsuit because your kids will get wet. There is also a dog park divided for large and small dogs. The dogs have available see-saws, small hills, and water fountains. There are balls everywhere in the dog park to play fetch with your dogs. The mall also has family friendly movies on select Saturdays. People bring towel to sit down on the grass. Sometimes there are people performing theather/musical numbers. There are also public restrooms for people to use. Overall, very nice place to visit and have fun with the family. Also, there's lots of parking.

I've enjoyed the gene Leahy Mall since its Inception and building. It's a nice little oasis in the heart of downtown Omaha which gives people the chance to experience a little quietness and natural beauty. Some people find that it is scary or off-putting that the green space and Waterway is below the street level. They may feel uncomfortable that they cannot be seen easily by passing cars in case something goes wrong. This is a few more of perception than reality as there are very little if any crime that ever happens there over the last 30 years that I'm aware of. Walking through the mall you can see ducks and geese. He seemed to be fixtures year around. There is a bridge that crosses the Waterway. To the West is the main branch of the downtown public library. To the east it connects with the heartland of America Park. This makes it appear as one very large Park. On both sides are city streets and there's even several businesses and an apartment complex towards the Eastern end. For the children there is a large stainless steel slide. It's always filled with children families were just having a little bit of fun. There are modern sculptures that inhabit the Green Space. These can change from time to time recently, the city help celebrate the United States Olympic Swim trials which were being held in Omaha and they decorated the park with swimming themed sculptures in the water and around the area. My only complaint with the park itself is that the the city does not do a very good job of replacing lights quickly. When they're broken they tend to stay broken for a long time. My other issue is that they do not have someone who routinely cleans up litter that flies into the water. I know this could be a full-time job, and it probably should be, but they don't get the trash out as quickly as one would imagine a major attraction like this should do. Hopefully the city will invest a little bit more time and money in this treasure as they recently did an overhaul of the lake area and dredged the water.

Neat place if it wouldn't have been a record setting temperature weekend in Omaha this place probably would have been fun. The walking map took us all the way around the park by the time we found the slide we were about to die! We walked from the Orpheum Theater, again would have been an easy walk if it wasn't 104 degrees out. Kids and adults alike seemed to enjoy the slide. Make sure to have a piece of card board it makes you go faster!

I was skeptical of the redesign of the central park mall. yes that's how long I've lived in Omaha. But after going there I have to give it 👍👍. It's really amazing what they worked into that space. From the rock climbing wall, stage, water play are to all the play areas and lots of seating. Your able to use the entire area. The old Gene Leahy was alot of water. The new mall fills that space with alot of fun usable areas. If you're on the fence go check it out.

AWESOME! When I first went there I had thought this was some kinda shopping center but it's a beautiful water body park in the downtown of Omaha. They have events in there throughout the year but it looks better in winter evenings when trees lose their leaves and they have light in them. Also, the new year light show happens here. And once the temperature freezes they freeze a part of water for skating. It looks amazing.

There's a nice trail that'll take you a few blocks to the riverfront where there's a fountain that lights up at night. Also it's across the street from the main downtown branch of the Omaha public library. It's only 2 blocks from the old market shopping and dining area.

I'd be disappointed in an Omahan if they did not brighten up at mention of the "big slides." One of the big draws here are huge metal slides on a hill that are popular day and night with kids (and adults!). This is a unique modern urban park with waterfalls, a myriad of public art, benches, and sculptures. Kids love feeding the ducks, swans, and fish, hopping across the water, and looking over the bridges. A pleasant evening walk that connects the library, downtown Omaha, the Old Market, and Heartland of America Park (which connects to the convention center and waterfront). This park is much better than I remembered it. Worth checking out.

I am only giving it 3 stars bc, the water is getting really dirty and the algae is everywhere. The river that flows through really needs to be cleaned out. I always see the workers cleaning the grounds but, never the water. There is trash everywhere in the water and I feel bad for the fish. It would be more romantic and inviting if the water was cleaned up too. Also, just a thought maybe you should put, candy machine full of fish pellets for $.25 then that would help for money to clean up the water.

The slides in the pictures are east of the 11th street entrance. Take a piece of wax paper and you will zip like crazy! Careful though, they are washed but people still pee on them. Good spot to go for a stroll in the middle of downtown.

Lots of the shops were empty, nice mall to walk around in except there was a lot of shops for lease. Maybe if they had a better parking lot or valet parking this place could do better. Maybe having a little more high end shops could get the traffic in. The building could use a bit more paint.

A bit "blah" for an up and coming city park. It hasn't changed a lot since I used to come down here skateboarding in the 80s. Was cooler when they had more waterfowl visiting the park-- now it's a bit sterile. Except the water. Definitely NOT sterile. It goes up to 4 stars in the winter when the Christmas lights are on the trees though. Will rarely see five stars, unless the Christmas lights are up AND there's few inches of new snow on the ground unmolested by Hufflepuffers.

I am glad that the city of Omaha is finally renovated the Gene Leahy Mall , I heard that this will be about a 5 year renovation period , but after it is finished the park will look even better than before ! 😉. We went here to go see the fireworks show in Omaha Nebraska for the end of the year celebration they do have some other activities going on there during the week not sure what they are but according to the news on the TV there is quite a few activities the fireworks show at the end of the year was so spectacular that I am going back again next year the people there were very friendly on helping me figure out where to go look at the fireworks because I was going there and it was my 1st time ever being there
