Great store. If you like camping or outdoor sports, this is like an amusement park. They even have a bicycle shop where I think (not totally sure) you can fix yours. The organization is a little weird, so it could be hard to easily find something specific, but people theare is super nice and helpful. I like that is a cooperative company, but that is something you have to take into account when you see things on sale, because some they only apply if you have a membership, so ask first if you don't. Or read the signs.

I bought two pair of hiking shoes. Both were on clearance but am very happy with my selections. The sales associate was incredibly knowledgeable and answered any and all questions intelligently. The bonus was spend $100 and receive a $20 coupon for use later this month. This was a great shopping experience!

This location has a phenomenal climbing wall called "The REI Pinnacle" which is the premiere indoor climbing wall in the greater twin cities. The staff are great at assisting with questions, product location, & exciting anecdotes pertaining to the reason for the visit. Highly recommended!

Every second time I go here I buy something. I always take pictures of stuff and look them up later online comparing prices. The quality of things that they have here is excellent. The dividends you get back because there a co-op are amazing.there have an area upstairs that's the return area, I always stop there first.For my wife and I, camping is are number one hobby. Over half of our camping gear that we own as from the store specifically.

Checkout and return lines aren’t managed effectively. I had a return to make and wished to make a purchase. The line on a weekday morning was 4 rows deep with only three cashiers servicing purchases and returns. I was at a Target store just prior and they had more staff keeping their customers happy and lines moving.

Not impressed with this being a 'Flagship' store. Organization was awkward, went in for one item. Found one size in one area, another size in another. The one I wanted wasn't even on the show floor, had to track down a worker to get it from the back. Then long, slow line checking out. I'll give it another try, hopefully goes better.

I like shopping at REI, I usually start with the return/discount area and work around the store. The staff is always friendly and helpful, if they don't know an answer to your question they'll find someone who does. It's not the cheapest outdoor recreation store, but the have some really nice quality gear at competitive prices.

I love REI, but the employees need to relax more. I understand that employees have to deal with a lot of issues, but the more than obvious displeasure with customers is something they need to work on. For the most part they do good, but the moment you start talking about their trade-ins or used gear they put on their dk face. They will openly criticize their customers, and I understand that, but there’s a time and place for everything, and it surely isn’t with another customer. I don’t want to hear about how other customers lie or try to cheat you on your trade-ins, I am only there to make my own purchase. If I have a question about a trade-in, don’t immediately assume I’m trying to scam you. I am just asking a question. I have on several occasions dealt with the same employees while dealing with new products and then again with trade-ins. My experience as a customer greatly differs based on the products I am looking for if you catch my drift. That should not happen and I believe retraining is a need before you offend somebody.No my five star review is not a mistake. I love REI and I understand their employees attitudes. Dealing with the general public is very challenging at times. But I hope that in the future I will see a change regarding your attitudes towards customers in the garage sale and trading area. No more eye rolling or saying please. You need to do a better job of compartmentalizing your disdain for your customers. Sorry for the rant, and not editing Thanks Max Smart

Incredibly friendly and helpful staff at this REI location which has to be the best and biggest in the Twin Cities. They have everything from rentals to clearance to a garage sale section and more, including an extensive shoe fitting area. Was really impressed by the help we got. Oh, and they have these “egg crystals.” I always leave REI feeling enlightened and inspired and this one is no exception.

If you can get popular sizes and off season, REI has just about anything outdoor related you might need. The staff are friendly and most knowledgeable. They will give you honest product opinions too. The return policy is fabulous, but don't abuse it.

I have gone to this REÍ store multiple times—even ended up opening an account with them. Today had an awesome experience shopping for hiking boots with Willow (absolutely amazing person from our limited interactions) who went above and beyond with helping me find the best boots that best fit my needs. While we were not able to find anything due to me trying to look for boots with a high cold rating (at the beginning of August, so very low expectations), she was able to provide with the perfect resources and knowledge to find what I needed—will be purchasing from REI online! Can’t recommend this location enough, amazing service and genuine interactions with people who care about your experience. While a bit pricey at points, everything else about it is worth it!

They were also very kind to not sell me on services I really didn't need but simply took care of the maintenance items requiring attention. Staff is typically rude and extremely arrogant. Not sure why, anyone who can afford the things in that store probably make 10+ times more than the employees. There is some nice staff, but in my experience its about a 50/50 shot of getting a good one. Regardless, I enjoy the store and can appreciate the high quality gear, just wish ALL the staff was as friendly as some.

This is a flagship-caliber REI location. I've been to many REI stores across the country, and this one is a good as they come. It has a very good selection of apparel for men and women of all ages, gear, bikes, shoes and boots, kayaks and paddleboards, backpacks, and accessories. The climbing wall is a cool touch, as is the pond in front of the store. The associates are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The store can be pretty busy at times, but I've never had an issue finding parking here.

My friend and I visited this location to rent camping gear for a weekend backpacking trip to the north shore. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, although didn't explain all the gear (how to inflate the air mattress for one thing) to us 'newbies.' That would have been a 5-star experience! We bought some prepared camp meals which exceeded expectations...who would've thought that chicken pad thai would be on our menu...and be really good!

Employees are friendly, highly knowledgeable, and helpful. REI sells quality products and has a great return policy. The prices run pretty equal to anywhere else that sells the same products but if your a member, the discounts and dividends make it somewhat less expensive. Watch for outlet deals, garage sale items, and seasonal sales. The only knock I have is the layout of the store is somewhat confusing and it can be difficult to find what you are looking for especially with clothing.

This is a good place to to get some outdoor stuff. They have a huge selection for clothes and equipment. The membership is $20 lifetime with 10 percent dividend monthly for the stuff you bought full price. I wouldn't stay this place is cheap but if you're not very sensitive to the price this is definitely the place to go. They have a rock climbing facility in store.

This is REI's flagship location in the Twin Cities. It's a huge place, even though it can get zooy, and the rock wall (the Pinnacle) is awesome, even though the wait can be long. The staff can usually help out with a wide range of questions, but you may need to ask around to get specifc insight or experience.

While this review isn’t specificity for the MPLS flagship location, don’t get me wrong I have only had fantastic experiences with retail and services here. But recently when trying to track down a package I received exceptional over-the-phone service from Abby. She was extremely polite, helpful, and sincere. While I know she doesn’t work at Bloomington I hope REI and the algorithm get my appreciation to the right place. Thanks again!

I've never been disappointed at the knowledge, helpfulness, and professionalism of the REI employees. A LOT of the gear is high end (and proceed as such), but you can bet you're getting your money's worth. Note: This year, mid-March is a good time to bring your bike in for service. They typically get busier end-of-March into April.

Always great gear and things that can be hard to find. 8nventorybos lower in these tight times but still 9ne of the best stores. The only place I've seen in 100 miles is isobutane canister gas but it was going fast. Great place for maps, routes and advice on gear and travel.

There's a lot going on right now, as we all know. Companies are trying to figure out how to operate in this new way of doing business. Some have tried things that didn't work out, while others have tried things that have. REI is certainly landing in the group of, doing it right. They are still the same cheerful people that's always there working away to share knowledge and be a helpful staff to those of us wandering about looking for the items we need. The way the store is laid out I never felt that I was being crammed into a sea of items. Instead, the already open floor plan is a bit more open, allowing for those customers in the store to safely move about, pick out items and head to the checkout. Everything, from store rules to distance markers are visible and easily understood. Hopefully things will return back to "normal" soon enough. But until it does, know that I felt ok with shopping at REI.

Pricey but worth it generally for the clothing if you're the outdoor type. The men's clothing is better quality with more options than the women's but they say they're trying to improve that. Lots of camping gear and food you can get much cheaper elsewhere. Staff are pleasant and helpful and will assist with anything you need.

Greg is the best guy to see if you need anything related to skiing! I needed some ski boots so my husband and I went to REI to see what they had late in the season (scoping out the deals!) My husband is an excellent skier and has spend significant time out west in the mountains. Greg is the guy who helped us and he was extremely helpful, kind, insightful, and honest throughout the whole process of finding boots. Finding the ski boot that is right for your feet is a long and difficult process. As a very experienced skier himself, Greg understood this and explained that if you want to find the right thing, it can take 45 minutes of trying on an array of boots. He asked a lot of questions about how different boots felt on my foot. He was very patient in the process and encouraged us to really feel comfortable with what we are buying. Greg explained that even a little bit of pain in the boot after wearing it for 10 minutes in the store is a whole lot more consequential after 3 hours on the slopes. After Greg brought out what must have been 10+ different boots, we found the right pair. After finding them, he gave us further insight on how to pick poles (I needed those, too). If you need skis, ski boots, or poles, ask if Greg is around!

REI is my one stop shop for all things equipment related. I've bought bikes, snowboards, sleeping bags, jackets, you name it. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. It's hard to make a quick trip to REI because I end up getting sucked into all of the stuff they have. The REI brand name items are well priced and great quality! They have all the major brand names, and even some small brands many people haven't heard about. I am a lifetime customer of REI. Amazing place for outdoor gear of all kinds! The feel of the store is very cool as well, and there is a rock climbing wall! The hours are a bit odd for climbing, but it's a lot of fun to climb here. Definitely a higher caliber of store compared to other sporting good places.

Came to the store to get a sun hat and left feeling humiliated. Got my hat though. Normally I don't get worked up about this because I'm used to it, but something irked me about how the cashier snootily asked to see my ID after I asked to use my rewards (% previous year's purchases). I'm not white but have a very white name because I'm adopted, so presuming she thought it was fishy. Left with a really sour taste.

I used to really like REI. I thought they had great service - pretty good prices and good staff. Maybe it is just this store but I've shine is off. I've brought 2 bikes in for tune ups - one bike had to be brought back a second time as they mis installed the rear tire - the other bike they tried to charge me twice on the same invoice for tuning the tire (they didn't even address the loose head stem) Gear is really expensive here - not a lot of deals to be found that can't be found elsewhere

Best example of a retailer practicing safe shopping habits. They require masks, monitor the number of customers going into the store. Keep check out lanes distanced. All sales reps on the floor are wearing face shields. They wipe the check out counters down between every customer. No trying on hats, sunglasses, clothing, etc. Great to know these guys care.

I have had great customer experiences and the products I have bought (clothes, camping and bike stuff) met my expectations. Prices to me reflect the good quality products which I have experienced to function well and last longer than the big box discount store items. I visited REI today for the first time, with the goal of buying hiking boots. I didn't really know where to start, so John helped me out. He assisted me with finding the size I really needed, and the boots I liked best. He was very helpful and kind, and didn't make me feel silly for being clueless. I'm very happy with the pair I bought. John also referred me to the co-op program, which I did sign up for. This trip was honestly a great experience. I could have bought out half the store if I had more money. I'll be back for sure.

Staff was brusque with us, but more friendly with the folks who looked like they had money - at least, that was our observation. My first experience at REI was surprisingly a very good one! Left my doctor's office to go look for insoles (which I know nothing about), and the kind sir in the footwear department helped me figure everything out; from measuring how high my arch is, to talking about the brands that would work best for me. It has a really cool rock wall which can be claimed for free if you are a member or for only $10 if you are a nonmember. I had an extremely fun time here with my family and friends and would highly recommend a visit. Five stars!

I'm not going to pretend it's not expensive, but if you buy the right stuff it lasts. Also, in regards to these one star reviews, I've never had an issue returning anything, and I doubt it was as bad as they claimed. They returned a two year old pair of pants because of manufacturer stitching failure. Not even their fault. You can buy a lot of stuff online for a savings, but certain things it's nice to touch and feel before buying. They offer that chance, and it takes employees, fuel, and real estate to make it happen, so of course it costs more.

I've been here many times. The only caution I can give is to double check bike assembly during rush times; I've seen a couple of goofs. Otherwise, perfect. If REI has what you want, no need to go elsewhere. The Navarro (store brand bikes) are a particularly good deal. Very good quality but not fashionable, so less expensive.

However it is always understaffed having to wait 10 minutes sometime for someone to help me or finding someone who doesnt know the product. I hadn't shopped at an REI many years, prior to my visit to the Bloomington location. Part of my avoidance had been the feeling of being "accosted" by overbearing sales associates (in other states). However, I found the staff at Bloomington to be super helpful, without being pushy. And the store layout is very cool and fun. Customer service took the time to find my Lifetime Membership number (which I hadn't used in about 10 years, and 2 states ago)! My membership # saved me nearly 30 dollars at checkout! I'll be back again, soon.

My wife and I are members and this morning, we went in with our Bernese Mountain Dog (11 months old, sweet puppy) to look for gloves and a hat to spend our recent dividend on. We were upstairs looking at gloves, chatting with a nice couple about their dogs and how sweet ours is—if you don't know, Berners are a fantastic, mild mannered breed. Then, a person and his family came upstairs. One of his small boys sat down on a chair next to us and looked at Maude the way a child looks at a puppy. I asked if he wanted to pet the puppy. The boy looked excited. Maude, on a tight leash, wagged over to greet the boy and the boy's short male parent then hurled our 65 lbs puppy violently into the side of a piece of furniture proving to us how big and strong he is. The unfortunate individual then told us "She's not a service dog. Clearly you didn't read the sign on the door." Now upset, we had to leave. On the way out, there was no sign about dogs and so I asked an employee: "Do you allow dogs in here?" He said, "Absolutely, as long as they're on a leash and well behaved." I went back upstairs to tell this warped person about this to which he again said, "Read the sign on the door." The individual then said he could've kicked our dog in the neck but refrained (I really like this guy). The person claimed their child was in danger and that "I should read the sign on the door." After again telling the individual that an employee told me that it's okay to have a dog in REI, and that he was out of line, he proved his ill-temper would only be surpassed by his stupidity. Mostly feeling bad for his wife and kids, I left. Five stars still applies because we really like your store and we know you can't control the IQ of people who enter. The reason I'm posting this is because a dim, violent individual thought that he read on your doors that dogs are not allowed at REI. Then a casual, fun encounter between a puppy and a boy led to an upsetting episode between an angry moron a happy dog, myself and my wife. So, If pets aren't allowed in the store, please put a sign on doors because we heard they were (from friends who bring their dogs to REI)—and then it was further confirmed by an employee (and many other employees who didn't tell us to leave our dog in the car). Also, if you could put a sign on the doors that prohibits animals who pose as men that'd be great too. Thank You.

I went into the Bloomington MN store convinced I was never going to find a pair of hiking boots that fit. I had been to several other stores trying on at least 20-30 hiking boots. I was greeted by Cindy. It was an hour before closing and she worked with me even after the store had closed. She went back and forth checking for different sizes. She gave me several suggestions on which she would think would work best for my feet. Even when I started to get discouraged and disappointed she kept me motivated to find a pair of boots to fall in love with. She offered the Oboz in mids that worked out perfectly. Unfortunately the store didnt have my size and I was leaving the following day so I had to purchase them through another retailer. She was not one bit upset I had to go somewhere else to purchase them. Cindy is the definition of a great worker who went above and beyond. She made my life so much easier and I had a very comfortable trip because of her help and dedication.

The one thing I would like to see done is all the scratch and dent product should be marked accordingly to the last price the lowest price in the in the store has a brand new the last price versus saying how much it was in the beginning so you can compare for example those shoes are $130 and then they go on sale for $89 if you go upstairs to the scratch and dent and you see the same pair for $51 without insurance and they're slightly used then it isn't such a big difference between $89 and $51 after you buy the inserts and no warranty therefore R E I should mark the scratch and dent item at $89 I know they are selling it for 51 not to put the price of $130 and then you feel like you're getting a bargain I don't feel that's fair thank you
