Reviews of Cherokee Park
Kathleen Pait
Drove through Louisville on our way to Nashville with the pup. Needed a place to stretch our legs. Found this park on the map & gave it a shot, was SO impressed!! A local told us the park's architect was the same person who designed Central Park in NYC. It felt safe, was populated, & had tons of fun trails covered in shade to help with the hot summer sun. 100% would recommend!!!
Lindsey Yadon
My favorite park ever. Or at least in Kentucky! My dogs and I have so much fun doing all of the hidden trails throughout Cherokee in the wooded areas. You can mountain bike on the trails, too! Dogs swimming in creeks and plenty of fresh air.
Stephen Willhite
I am biased. I live next to this park and it is far and away the best part of living in the Highlands. It is part of the 409 arces Olmsted Park system. It is well maintained, and has dozens of trials for those on foot and on wheels. Big Rock is a great place to meet up at during the Summer.
Walter Ford
Absolutely gorgeous park in the fall, leaves are turning. It’s quiet. Everybody there, the cyclists, mountain bikers and runners are very courteous to each other.
David A.
Gorgeous park with tons of natural area! If I lived here, I'd be here all the time. Friendly folks in the park and lots of paths to walk. I love parks that keep the natural environment of the land and they've done a remarkable job here.
Lesley Elmes
There's trails of all kinds, for all walks of life! The Beargrass Creek trails & Big Rock are some of my most favorite in the Seneca/Cherokee Park system, but there really aren't any bad ones.
Colleen Burkhart
Beautiful views, loved the scenic route - not much in the way of playground equipment but plenty of space to run and play!
Spongeflower
Decent park but nothing mind-blowing, in my opinion. I would return, but with a friend, and only if I were living in Louisville. As a *visitor*, I think it's not really worth coming here. Not that it's bad, because it's actually very pleasant, but because there are many more interesting things to see in the city.
NiNi
Beautiful park! We had a huge family get together here and it was amazing. We brought our own grill.. I didn’t see any there just an fyi but kids had a blast swimming then dried off at the park. Definitely would come here again
Amber Talley
Beautiful, scenic area. There's a lot of trails and they also have a basketball course. Great area to travel to. My only complaint is it's easy to get lost trying to get back to my vehicle.
devin doud
Way bigger than I thought is was going to be! I have 3 dogs, 2 of which are 80 lbs, and need a solid place to run them. Every turn has great space and new things to see. They have a few playgrounds, restrooms, shelter houses,, andevery couple hundred yards and trash cans. Go mid day or mosquitoes will get ya

Came to Louisville for the first time over the Thanksgiving holiday and was looking for a park to hike in nature. I learned this park was designed by the same man who design Central Park in NYC (Olmsted) and it did not disappoint. The scenic drive through the forest would also be lovely, if your visit is in poor weather or if you are short on time.
Samuel Sweeney
I enjoy waking at Cherokee. I see a lot of regulars there too. I do believe that the park needs some TLC however. Lots of litter and could use some more bins throughout. The loop is pretty dirty and can be muddy in some spots as well. This could be an excellent park with more upkeep.
Brigit Kowalczyk
This park has amazing paved trail around its perimeter as well as numerous areas to hike in the woods. What a gorgeous area! I always love going back to louisville!
Arthur Husein
I've been coming here since the first week I've moved to Louisville and it's my favorite place to take my son. Great grilling space and a lot of room to let your dog run.
Wendi Maertz
I go here almost every day and it makes me happy! My dog loves it too. There is a full Lane for walkers/runners/bikers, and it's a one way Lane for cars. You can hike through the woods too, so you can forget you're in a city for a while. Absolutely beautiful.
Tipsy Turntable
My home away from home! This is one of my all time favorite parks. There is something for everyone, from hiking/biking trails, to sidewalk strolls, rugby/soccer fields, gazebos for events, dog parks, you name it! I spend at least two hours here every day.
Meaghan Thomas
An oasis. Part of the reason we moved here. Love the trails. My dogs adore it too. A total gem. And just a short walk to all the great shops and restaurants on Bardstown Road.
M. L. Hunt
A very nice public park. Large, lots of walking/running/bike trails, amenities like a pavilion with grills, etc. I especially like the fountain that seems to have been adopted by dog owners for their dogs to jump into.
Rook Zer
This park is always good for a walk/jog and has great places to take photos. A few playgrounds for kids and a baseball field. Also good to ride through on a motorcycle.
Jada Thompson
Loved this park. Needed a break from down town and found this park. It had beautiful walkways. We enjoyed the mix of wild grasses and landscaping. Great sprawling park!
Ronci Johnson
The scenic loop is an amazing path, their hiking trails vary from just starting to life-long trail enthusiasts. It's easy to see why it's one of best parks in Louisville Metro's park system. Olmsted's groups do an amazing job maintaining the park. Not to mention the view is amazing from every angle.
Darshan Mahale (DM)
Awesome park...must visit. Nice place to spend time.
Gus Dalinis
Lots of forest trails to go through. Great for kids as there is a playground, splash pad, and bathrooms.
Lisa Smith
This park is huge! It's a beautiful place to enjoy nature. Excellent place for walking, jogging and enjoying nature
Allison Marie
I've always loved coming to Cherokee Park ever since moving to Louisville. I went here last week with my fiance and there were a ton of cicadas! (I don't like them, but it was a fascinating sight, none the less). It was beautiful as always, and there's a lot of trees for shade during the summer.
Google User
There are numerous hiking trails to explore anytime of the year. Beautiful landscapes, creeks, fountains, and multiple grilling spots are available throughout the loop. Restrooms are well kept and heated in the cooler months. Too many activities to list.
Brittany Reed
Love this park! By the way it has been landscaped you totally forget that you're in the middle of a metropolitan city but rather it feels as if you're in the middle of a forest oasis. So relaxing for a picnic with the kids and also a great place for exercise.
Dakota Simkins
Haven't gotten a chance to fully experience the whole park, but I have had a great experience. The Doe and her Fawn came out. Everyone out playing basket ball, working out etc. ♥️
Carole K
A very beautiful and peaceful park- 400 acres.
Hills, meadows, stream, lots of forest.
There are paved walking/biking paths, and also dirt trails through the woods.
John Adam Clark
If you are from the east end of Louisville, and consider yourself a outdoors enthusiast and haven't been to this park, I would almost be embarrassed to be your friend...lol. Seriously, the golf, walking track, and miles of hiking/hiking trails and big rock creek, there's a lot to do. Plus it was designed by Olmstead, who also did central park in NYC, amounst others. Frisbee Field, Co Cochran Hill or better known as doggy Hill, Hogan's fountain, Big Rock Creek Park and picnic area, Christian Academy and the jockeys Club with Stables with horses and a track, there's even a trail that has its own bridge over 64 only accessible bye hiking or biking. Basketball courts, 3 bathroom v vicinity, archery range, and everyone you encounter is happy to see you. I grew up navigating this park, thank you Olmstead for such a great park!!!
Tracy Archer
I loved blue Heron Winery. It was awesome. This was my first time here. The views were beautiful and the live music was great. I was here with friends.
Eli B
Cherokee is a go-to for me. Super close and convenient. Nice park. Decent amount of trails. Nice large open areas as well.
The trail is bike, runner, and walker friendly and is roughly 4.8 miles if you do the full loop. For bikes i recommend doing the loop counter-clockwise because it flows best that direction. Though, know it is multi-directional trail so you can still come across other going against you. Most locals know it flows best counter so typically bikes are going the same direction. Also, i highly recommend using an app like TrailForks to map the loop for you. The loop is rather poorly marked, and signs are faded. Easy to go down the wrong trail and end up off the loop if you arent careful.
When i trail run, i run clockwise so i can be more aware of bikes on the trail, being that most go counter-clockwise. The trail is decent, groomed well, not a lot of obstacles, if any. There is roughly 500ft of elevation on the loop. No long climbs. Some decent downhill sections, for a 500ft elevation loop that is. The trail gets a LOT of traffic so plenty of roots to go around on steeper climbs and decents but nothing to terribly technical.
I like cherokee for what it is. Just know, if you havent been there, it is high traffic with kids and adults alike. Dont plan on setting any new speed records on the trails. Its an easy loop to ride/run and definitely worth it if you are close. Otherwise, trail wise it is definitely not worth the drive. Trails like Waverly are much better. And not nearly as populated. But for a inner-city park cherokee is really nice.
And now for parking. Parking is a joke. And some evenings just a frustrating headache. The park is completely closed off to ALL motorized traffic. And everyone that has a desire to visit the park just has to park along side the roads surrounding the park. There is nearly NO DESIGNATED PARKING for cherokee. Why? Idk. Buts its a joke. If you're lucky maybe you can get in one of the actual parking half donuts that rarely exist around the park. I tend to run mornings, and I can always get a spot in a half donut (Yes i am aware they are called circle drives. I dont care. I love donuts). But in the evenings when my wife and i go for a walk, we just hope to find a decent spot along the road not to far from a newly man made trail head. You know, because parking is a joke.
Also im not implying that I am making new paths to the trail from the road. But when there is close to zero parking, that is saddly what tends to happen. Especially with the amount of traffic that parks like cherokee see. If there are not decent trail heads to get park visitors to the trails, they tend to start making their own. Please dont make new trails. Just take care of the park and "leave no trace" so others can come and enjoy it also, for years to come.
Ryan Henderson
Although I've lived in Louisville pretty much my whole life, I never ventured to this park. The scenery was excellent. Very well maintained as well. My kids enjoyed it very much so. Will be going back with my camera to take more pictures!
Yeni Hernandez Moncada
Nice place to walking with my husband and my dog's
I ❤️ this Place 🙌 👌 …
Angela Woody
The park was clean, the trails were well maintained and the view was beautiful!
Jessica Smith
Beautiful park, beautiful trails. Always one of my favorite spots
Tee Renne
This park was very nice. It’s located in a beautiful part of town and you can tell the city takes very good care of it compared to many other parks in Louisville. Only complaint is that it’s ALWAYS busy and swarming with tons of people, and the roads are a bit hard to maneuver if you’re not familiar with the park or the neighboring areas nearby.
Erin Jones
always good. even early Dec sunshine in projected bad winter. Soak it up! Still discovering woodsy trails@
Nikki Pyle
Favorite park ever! Just being here makes me happier.
kate.
Big enough to get peace even on a busy day. Paved and dirt paths. Kept very clean. You can tell the locals love the place and treat it as such.
Laurencio Ronquillo
This is an amazing walking jogging leisure time free access forest area. Every now and then some paths are closed to cars, which expands the trails and roads for people and bikes.
Located within the city makes it very convenient. Public rest areas, benches and scenic views make it amazing.
Jeral Tidwell
I love Cherokee park... it is truly Amazing. I mainly ride mountain bikes in the park, I honestly believe it is one of the most diverse and well maintained trail systems in the area. I have been riding these trails for 17 years and still have a blast every time I ride them. There are so many different areas that you can make a dozen totally different rides out of them and it is never boring. There are trails for all riding levels except there's not really any extreme downhill or dirt jumping. It is definitely a cross country trail system but there are plenty of super technical areas and even a few small downhill runs with some small rolling jumps. If you love a challenge and some beautiful trails, you definitely need to ride Cherokee park... you will love it.
Joshua Menefee
Great park for a walk with the puppers.
Joshua Spalding
Nice large park with designated walking/riding paths on the road through. Also extra paths through the woods. Has a nice playground with a splash pad.
Jana Carter
Best park in Louisville! It was even designed by the same guy who designed Central Park in NYC!
Melanie Rudolph
Cherokee park is a beautiful park to walk. One lap was approximately 2.5 miles. Beautiful nature and vibrant Fall leaves. Recommend. 👍👍❤️ …
Stephanie Green
Clean, friendly for pedestrians of all abilities, bikes, strollers, pets, families. Tons of area to walk, run or just sit and relax. This pup LOVES it
It's S_____________
All day, everyday. Walking the trails with the fellas was definitely it. A disconnect & recharge. The K9's loved it. Found out there's a bird sanctuary tucked in there too.
The deer got a little alarmed, as us, close confront because 2 were getting in position as we did, about 25-30 feet away, but thankfully no shots, no bucks, and everything else played it's role. Be aware, although we had a nice time. Hope you will too.
Mark Carpenter
This park is absolutely gorgeous. It was designed by the same person who designed Central Park.
Well worth the walk around, and try to do an afternoon picnic underneath some HUGE trees.
Weather buffs: this park was hit by the EF-4 tornado which struck Louisville on April 3-4, 1974. If you look very carefully, you can see tree limbs which were permanently twisted by the winds and an area of trees which are considerably smaller than the surrounding trees.
Patrick Yaeger
One lane of the main loop road around the park is reserved for pedestrians. This hike and bike lane is a cherished resource for any park, especially one in a city. The open spaces, hills, trails, facilities, old growth, connections to other parks, and location makes this park a real treasure to city residents and a must see for anyone visiting Louisville.
Shabir Bharadia
It's a beautiful place and has many recreational opportunities. However, like a lot of the city parks there is a lack of maintenance. Some of the roads have major cracks or potholes and can potentially be a hazard to bikers and pedestrians. The grass was not mowed in many areas and the flower beds show signs of long term neglect.
Grant
Definitely a great place to go to for mountain biking, hiking, running, picnics, and much more!
RobRoy McCandless
Gorgeous historic park. Amazingly lovely and fun to go wandering around in. There's plenty to see, and lots of spaces for picnics, running, trail walking, or sight-seeing.
Samara Hudson
Half the playground and swing set were fenced in along with the pavilion and grills. So the kiddos only have the big playground and “water pipes” to play with.
The bathrooms by the basketball court were nasty (as always). Bring your own hand sanitizer to the bathrooms.
Not many people were playing basketball which is kind of a bummer because the court is basically brand new.
All in all; it was a pleasant park visit with the water pipes for the kiddos. But they wanted to swing and they couldn’t.
Angela Wright
Have only been here twice now because I brought a Condo in the neighborhood. I can't wait to I live here by the park full time. It's a awesome Beautiful Park that goes on forever and ever
Robyn Rakestraw
Alot more people than there used to be, but beautiful park.
Shaleen Tripathi
I always love to visit Cherokee park, it's very scenic and always love a drive or a walk here.
Jose Avila
For tourists, this is a very hard to negotiate park. The signs are rare, resulting on us missing several attractions.
Mohammad Ghani
Amazing park for picnic with friends and family. Great for jogging, trails 👣 or just enjoy the calm environment. …
Itti Bitti
Everytime I go to Cherokee I love to take off on a trail. Most of the time when I go I run into the animals that live there. It's so beautiful and peaceful. Serenity.
Luis Domenech
This park is so much fun, great trails, beautiful Creek that runs through it and really clean.
Byrd’z Nest Productions
Park is very well kept.
Valerie McCracken
Beautiful park. Me and my husband love walking and jogging here. The trails are beautiful too. Very relaxing and surprisingly quiet for it to be in the middle of the city.
Anne Hogan
Such a shame Metro Council allowed cars back in throughout all the areas of the park, the compromise was working beautifully. Closing just a small area to cars created a haven for people of all ages, large families/groups walking together, people using wheelchairs, wildlife, kids learning to ride bikes, seniors, dog walkers. Cyclists had room to ride safely without dodging pedestrians. The safety brought people out who didn't usually use the parks. Diversity of age, ethnicity, race, ability increased dramatically. I've been in the park several times a week for almost 30 years and daily during the pandemic and have never seen that many new people there before some of the area was protected from vehicles. It was a precious time and place, what parks are meant to be. We are now back to dodging careless drivers racing through, inhaling car exhaust, squeezing into one lane or stepping off the road to not get hit, and increased crime. Overall a significant loss of health and safety. Louisville listened to a few entitled motorists unwilling to compromise, politicians voted to decrease safety for convenience of a very few at the expense of the more vulnerable who just want a healthy, safe park.
Jem Baykent
A beautiful park. Saw a young limping mouse. Not sure if there are wolves around?
Dave Bell
Amazing Urban Forest that is easily accessible from anywhere in Louisville. Miles of hiking/biking trails.
Mahalee Gibson
It's a nice community park where everyone stays to themselves and minds there business. There's never any issues or conflict if your looking for a place to take your dog or even your kids just to be outside this is a nice place .
BRIAN BRAGG
Beautiful park speckled with gorgeous homes/mansions....the big rock is awesome and we'll known to natives....take your shoes off and get a little wet!
Alex kincaid
Beautiful park with wonderful scenery. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is there are a lot of turtles in the lake that are masters at stealing bait off of fishing lines.
Lance Upton
Huge, beautiful park with a long walking trail. There are great spots around the basketball court for a cookout and huge fields for kickball, softball, etc.
Meera Thakur
Very soothing in hot summer . Good greenery all around.
Sarah Brumitt
Beautiful scenery, abundance of trails. Love taking our puppy to dog hill to socialize with other pups!
Benjamin Rogers
We have alot of fun at Cherokee Park today for rugby games. High School teams then UofL and Dayton clubs.
Lisa Preuett
Love running here. Hills are ferocious but fun! Love the beautiful scenery along the scenic loop. The only reason for a 4 star is the condition of women’s bathroom by the big pavilion. No toilet paper in 2 of the 3 stalls. This was at 9:00am.
Nicholas Mo
Wonderful place to come with friends or solo. Takes you right out of the city into nature.
Carey Marie
Stopped in for an impromptu photo shoot... We were able to capture a few gorgeous shots while we were at this location... Wasn't able to explore this park as much as we wanted due to the rain in hopes to go back! If you're looking for a great spot for photos, family fun, picnics, hiking, walking your dogs, enjoying nature... This is a perfect spot to unwind and be one with nature!
h g
Most beautiful park around Louiville! Very close to downtown! Great views! Scenic Loop is the best way to take 2 miles walk or jog!
Brian Joffe
Amazing to see so many dogs and people. I've never seen so many dogs unleashed and well behaved! Awesome trails as well, for walking, jogging, and biking.
FreedomFocus Flow
This park has it all. Lots of walking trails, gorgeous meadows, plenty of parking in various pulloffs, wheelchair accessible, and totally dog friendly. You also don't get run off after hours.
AK McD
Took a lovely walk around the loop. A great place to excercise and people watch. Next time I'll take lunch and a hammock and finish my walk with food and a nap.
Amber Penn
Best park in the Louisville area - great for cycling, running, cooking out, and walks with the family!
Jose Miranda
A really good place to go for a walk with friends or by yourself just have to be aware of the time you go and the people if you go really late but it's really nice
Nancy Lefebvre
Wonferful park for families and athletes. Great for trail running as well as road running/walking. The only complaint is the bathrooms are discusting. Too bad they don't have bathrooms like Turkey run and broad run.
Mohammad Mohaghegh Faghih
It is a very great public park to enjoy a picnic or a family gathering on weekends. Very clean. Very safe. Long trails to follow.
Ayanna Brown
Our son loves, loves ,loves the playground by the water fountain! And of course the whole park is a little heaven inside the City. Bike trails, walking trails, doggie friendly....just awesome
Barry Holland
If you're unable to find yourself pleased with what this municipal park has to offer, then you're probably seeking a country club. There's no pool here (nor tennis courts any longer either, but plenty in adjacent Seneca Park), but this is one of the most beautiful and friendliest parks anywhere. That it's an Olmsted park is a bonus.
Joseph Campbell
Its nice well kept it wasn't to crowded when it was there, the bike trails were okay
Yusiel Leyva
Great place to have a fun , walk your pet , have a picnic and enjoy a peaceful day
John Smithson
A beautiful and challenging classic golf course. Built in the 1800s. Not very long but the hills are very challenging. Lots a majestic trees make hitting it straight a priority. Course is kept in beautiful condition. A real treasure at all golfers should play.
Melissa Sanders
Beautiful park. We are holding our our Inaugural NFF5K Family FUN DAY on May 18
Besa Schweitzer
Lovely park but restrooms were disappointing.
Dalton Lynch
Every time I go to Cherokee park I find a new little spot I've never found before. It's always well worth the visit to just get lost and explore.
Eric Matzdorf
A must visit if ever in Louisville! So many things to do in this beautiful park including the 10 mile hiking/biking trail.
Moose Knuckle
5 stars out of 5. Night or day this park is absolutely amazing. The people on bikes are just as unlikable as anywhere else but don't let that distract you from how awesome this park is. Honestly the only downside to this park is the Cherokee Slasher, but as long as you go with a group of friends you should be totally fine.
betsydurham18
Donation based Acro Yoga jam on Mondays from 6-9pm, the group is so nice and it's really cool to watch and participate! The views in this park are stunning as well.
Beni Moon
Great place to relax, during summer it perfect place to go mountain bike and play frisbee with friends
Orestes Pimentel Vega
Excelente for outdoors activities, walk and take some fresh air
Neki Patel
Great park and has a long loop to walk and run
Kerry Manke
We come here often. There are loads of trails to hike, bike, and run., Most are easy enough anyone can hike and have numerous off shoots so that you can change directions, walk different trails everytime, etc.
Some trials DO share with mountain bikes so you do have to be mindful of the faster moving users.
Since they have shut down the roads into the park itself there are very few days we go by where we don't see deer and other creatures.
Very peaceful.
Magnolia Wright
Beautiful park, many places to walk and bike! Plenty of things to do. There are trails, big grassy areas to read or work out or even do yoga, a swingset and some small climbing logs for children, and of course it's very pet friendly!
Bill Ky
Just one of Louisville's treasures. Roads to bike and several paved walkways pass through wooded areas. You can get lost in the many wooded hiking trails throughout the park. Places for picnicking, reading or hanging a hammock. Dogs welcome everywhere on leash and off leash on "dog hill"
Mary Kim
Plenty of hiking paths and trails. A great place to walk a dog, or meet a friend for a walk, a picnic style meal, or an outdoor meeting. Friendly neighborhood surrounded by tall trees and beautiful homes.
Namkhang Khamkongchan
A nice place especially at the playground there is a Zipline☺️
Phil Kollin
My favorite of the wonderful Olmstead Parks scattered throughout Louisville. Just an amazing city park with a little something for everyone! Incredibly well maintained also.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the 2.4 mile loop for running and biking. Especially since car traffic has NOT been allowed in the park for the last several weeks. The loop is a great path for walks, runs and bike rides!
Julie Ries
Beautiful, beautiful park! Several historic items in park.
christina Grey
Love looking at the architectural design and visiting historical sites!
Lauryn CeHart
Certain parts of the park are still nice as far as trails go. But the main areas that everyone goes to daily are absolutely disgusting. Trash every where. People have no respect anymore.
Joe Krehbiel
Beautiful park with plenty of different types of trails and nature areas.
T Chambers
Very large and beautiful park in downtown Louisville, KY. Rolling hills and open spaces adjoining wooded areas and trails. Great place to just hang or hike.
Overland Generation
Beautiful park! Great mountain bike trails!
jim r
We were in from out of town and looked for some green space to get some fresh air. This park seemed really great. A good mix of walking paths and bike paths too. Very beautiful!
sonja de Vries
I have yet to explore all the paths/trails here but I love the scenic loop- it is beautiful and moderately challenging and a great way to have a walking visit, or a walk by yourself. As a woman I feel safe on this path because there are always other women here too. Beautiful, thankful that people before us realized how important it was to have green space in the city!
Christine mestrovich
This is one of my favorite parks in Louisville. This park is clean, but there is less traffic due to the park being closed to vehicles second to the pandemic. We stayed on the scenic loop where social distancing was respected. We traveled back to the bathrooms near the golf course. They were remarkably clean.
David Allgeier
From a walker's perspective, it was better when the scenic loop was closed to cars, but Cherokee park is still one of the best parks around. When there's a good snow, Barringer Hill is the place to sled.
daniel white
Beautiful. Great for runs, dog walks, and scenic drives.
Reggi Jean-Marie
Really big area to explore. You can take your dog there. Dint get to explore all of the areas but enjoyed the time I was there
Malissa Schmitt
Great trails, lots of locals riding bikes, good geocaching
Lucas Bond
Excellent scenic views, perfect trails crafted by people that care. One of the best parks in the area alongside the Waterfront.
bradley anderson
An awesome forest in the middle of the city. Great paths to walk and especially great trails for mountain biking. These are fairly technical trails for beginners but tons of fun overall. There is also an archery range, dog parks and the nearly world famous "frisbee field".
Shirena Mcallister
The most relaxing park I've been to. Adults and children seem to love big rock but being in the water is not to safe. Theres always beer bottle glass and other sharp objects in the water surrounding big rock.
Grisha Chernov
Great place for a hike and for kids.
Laurie Wilmes
I love this park! The trails are well-maintained and there's a dedicated lane around the park for walking/biking. There's even a creek that runs through it that's deep enough in one area for a swimming hole! There's a basketball court, splash Park and a place the locals call dog Hill where you can run with or watch our furry friends enjoying freedom on the hill.
life n beta
Beautiful park with great trails for hiking and trail riding. Lots of great vegetation.
David Gripp
Love this park. Great for running and walking, with lots of shaded paths.
The Golf Course is where I spend most of my time. This year it is exceptionally well groomed, and tee times have been spaced well. The course if tight, so unless you are confident in your big stick, you may want to play for strategy, not distance.
Robert Mikel
Awesome trails, bike paths, dog park, and just roads you can drive down to enjoy the nature. Plenty of benches and creeks.
James Sidell
Beautiful park with a lot of trees and shaded areas. The roughly 2.5- 3 mile loop pathway around the park has a lane just for running/walking/biking/roller blading/whatever you want to do. The vast majority of cars driving in the other lane drive considerately within the speed limit. A lot of the pathway is shaded as well so even during the day it's pretty cool. The park also has huge grass areas and is really popular with dog walkers and all sports. If you do bring a dog here, just dont forget to clean up after it!
Don Gordon
It was ok but not what I was expecting. It's a very large park with plenty of room to walk, run, or bike if that's what you're looking for.
I went to try and play Pokémon Go and though there are a handful of stops and gyms there for Pokémon Go they're very sparse and spread out far too much to try and play PoGo there.
Shane
Beautiful and family friendly. Has a little of everything for the nature lovers. Runners will have plenty of challenging climbs, bikers and hikers have good option for trails and plenty of spaces for dogs and kids to play. It is the perfect park for the Highlands.
Trent Crull
It's big and has a cool single track around it!
Kevin Kramer
Huge park with trails and multiple playgrounds
Tyler Estes
Always love going to this park. The trail is always clean and i love their side trails through the nature itself. And the pathways are safe even with cars on the other side of the street. Everyobe also is usually nice, plus they have great spots for the kids as well.
Crystal Roberts
Love this park!!! It has amazing scenery awesome place to take pictures, spend the day with your kids or just take your dog for a walk.
Craig Disselkamp
Awesome place to Golf! I got to play about 130pm on a Monday. Very nice Day! Lots of Fun! Well kept up Course with probably, The Best Greens in town! Friendly Staff!😀 …
Andrew Pendragon
Cherokee is a great park, particularly because of its proximity to the rest of the highlands. It is flanked on all sides by the iconic houses of old Louisville, and the interior of the park is equipped with a lot of great fields and wooded areas. During the fall, it’s a lovely place to just walk around and see the leaves change. People use this park a lot for biking and running, but there are plenty of places to hammock, hike, or picnic as well.
The Mayor
This place is so much more enjoyable since they closed it off to cars. There is still plenty of parking at the entrances so it doesn't really cause any trouble to get in ou out. I stopped coming here years ago because people would zoom through the park at high speeds blaring obnoxious music. The exhaust from the cars made running here difficult and unhealthy. Now I can finally return! Keep the cars out forever!
Verlin Rice
The park is visitor friendly. There is a dedicated paved walking, biking or jogging lane throughout the park plus off road trails to accommodate mountain biking. The golf course is a joy to play, but not without a challenge due to the hills and tight fairways.
Luke Williams
Love this park so much. My family and I enjoy is so much so often especially with warmer weather coming.
Caleb Daughtry
This is probably the best park in the city of Louisville. Kentucky has tons of great places to hike so I won't go that far, but here in Louisville this park offers beautiful scenery, vast amount of trail for hiking and running and lots of great things you can do with family.
Elizabeth Calloway
The little bit of the trails that I walked on had varying degrees of difficulty. It was really pretty. Not as many blooming flowers as I would have liked but it was nice seeing all of the native species and the effort they are making to plant more and take out the invasive species. It's a nice park for everyone I think. I even found a nice rock on the trail to sit and draw and paint. Theres a playground for kids, a place to cook out, lots of trails for hikers and runners and that's just the little part I seen. So I can't wait to go back and I really do recommend this park for everyone.
J Weber
Visiting from the flat lands of northern Illinois. Loved the Kentucky hills as it adds another dimension to the game! The course is a bit furry and warmer weather and sun can only help. I bet there are good, easy going rounds to be had all season for those seeking a course for those less skilled.
Olivia Troehler
Lovely park that is well maintained. Great for walking, running, biking, picking, you name it. There is a fenced in dog park that people apparently forget or don't know about. Certain areas have a problem with limited parking so consider walking to the park if you are close enough in the summer.
Arlene Sadcopen
Went on a cold Sunday morning but I would imagine it to look lush during summer and fall
Senaca SHELTON
Great place to take your kids to catch some bluegill lots of 🐢 in the water but great place …
J.T. Crawford
Terrific, mostly undeveloped park (which is good) with both paved and dirt trails. The road around the park is one-way to traffic with half the road set aside for only pedestrians and cyclists. I love that approach. And there are plenty of woodsy, dirt trails that take you off the beaten path. There are restroom facilities and picnic tables with some places to grill. The park is hilly.
WyldWeezle
At present you cannot drive a vehicle into the park, which limits your ability to visit the place to the available parking on streets around its border. I had hoped to take the scenic drive while visiting Louisville, but was unable to.
Brittany Becerra
You just can't beat this park! You see dogs of all kinds, people from everywhere in the world....it's the friendliest park ever!
Sage Marlowe
Beautiful large park, has the road separated so one side is for cars and the other is for pedestrians so you have a very nice long place to walk or ride bikes. There is dog hill where people let their dogs socialize, and plenty of places to appreciate nature.
Geralyn Waters
This park is awesome. I make a point of spending time here everytime I am in Louisville. Great for hiking the scenic loop if you want a paved path, or the many woodland trails. Either way, lots of hills, so is not a boring hike.
Cameron Powell
Quiet but busy place. Clean for the most part. The bathrooms are a mess today and one of the doors won't shut completely. I don't know if it's homeless people, or rambunctious teens, or crack heads but there needs to be more vigilance done in the area.
UPDATE:. I wrote that first review several years ago and unfortunately the entire review still holds true. The bathrooms are still a mess on occasion and there's always at least one stalled or that won't close completely. Whether it be in this set of bathrooms by Hogan's fountain or the other set of bathrooms over by dog run. It's a constant cycle suffice it to say that the Park service does his best they can to keep up.
nate knopf
Great trails, good for runs, hikes, biking. Best sledding when it does snow on dog hill.
cheryl french
The bathrooms are decent, I've only been in the women's restroom mind you. Need more tho throughout the park. Nice play area and the water feature for ppl with children. Decent park to bring your dog(s).
Brittney Kempf
Awesome park. Love the paved loop around the park for walkers, bikers, and cars! This park has hills that provide a challenge. Public restrooms with a water fountain. Lots of picnic areas and open areas for fun and fitness. Don't forget the dog park!
Dan Cooper
Went to the park for mountain biking and had a great time. Trails had a decent amount of roots but it was my first time riding in Kentucky so. Not sure what the norm is.
ItsAlliSunny
I've had my window smashed in, robbed, assaulted and so much more at this park. Don't go at night alone, lock your car and park in a lit spot. It's a beautiful park but bad stuff just happens here 😆 …
Tara King
I love everything about this park. Road is divided (left side for pedestrians and the right for drivers- all one way) many mini parks throughout has archery range and dog hill for dogs to run without leashes. Has COUNTLESS amount of trails for both walking and biking.
Tim Hargesheimer
Free, beautiful trails, inside the city limits, lots to do.
Bill Dennis
We recently moved to Louisville Kentucky and love Cherokee Park. Our whole family visit often. Trails for hiking, playground for the kids and even a self guided auto tour makes time fly. Cherokee park was designed by the Olmstead brothers who designed Central Park in NYC. Bring a picnic lunch and the kids and the dogs for a fun filled day. Cherokee Parks grounds are well maintained and beautiful. You wont want to leave
Samantha McAllister
It's a huge park and very beautiful. Not a whole lot of intense trails, but short scenic ones. The witches hat is also awesome to hold events or get togethers. It's really nice and the community loves it. There are also plenty of seating throughout the park. Just know to get out, you have to make a right. Anywhere. There won't be signs to show you which way is out. If you don't know this, you'll keep following the road/always turning left and you'll just keep circling around.
Jarred Ford
Always an amazing place to go for a walk/run or just to relax. Never had any issues with parking and the grounds have been very well maintained. The trails are nice too, just be wary of the people on bikes that may come across.
Oz Garcia
I love Cherokee Park. It's the perfect place for biking, running, hiking or just walking. I try to come at least 2 times every month, even during wintertime.
Steve Wellum
Cherokee is a wonderful park in the beautiful city of Louisville. It is great for cycling, walking, gatherings, and other sports. It has a nice walking/running/bike path surrounding the park that is really safe. The hills also make it a challenging path. The scenery is nice. A great place for family outings and exercise. Come enjoy the great park system of Louisville!
Steve Ambs
Nice park that's really spread out. Even though there's a lot of woods, there are still a lot of open areas you can lounge around in or play some sports. There's a lot of walkers as well as joggers & bikers. They have a pavilion you can rent & reserve. Several playgrounds, basketball courts, etc. Mostly it's a one way drive through the park. The only negative is it's always crowded, but I guess you could say that it's safer having a lot of people around.
Jones Reviews
This place will forever be in my memories. Go to the trail behind the dog park and you'll find a way to get above the two tunnels on 64 near grinstead, you know the ones. Me and my friends chill there, the witches hat, and the rock. The rock is amazing. It's a great area for a little climbing, swimming and other things. The trails here are awesome too the best ones are by the witches hat. They have concrete and dirt trails. There's always parking. They say fhey close after dark but no one listens, the cops will tell you to get out but they won't do anything. Also this place is really safe. I've never encountered homeless people camping or anyone really sketchy. Just an overall great place to chill, hike and whatever you wanna do at a park.
S Patrick
Always green and beautiful love the trails and parks.
Manooch Saeedi
One of the Olmsted parks, so how could it not be beautiful. This place is great for a walk in any season, especially in Autumn as the leaves change color.
Kyle Baker
This expansive park situated in the heart of Louisville is only a 7 minute drive from Downtown. Filled with luscious trees, countless nature trails, and various wildlife, it is a welcome escape from city life. Walkers, Joggers, and bikers can be seen wandering the parks many roads and trails. Iconic statues, beautiful fountains, historic bridges, and well-kept buildings are strewn throughout the park. This is the perfect place for a morning run, a quick get-a-way during lunch, or for a family picnic. Louisville is lucky to have such a wonderful treasure available in the heart of the city. Whether you want to kick back and relax or get your daily exercise in, this is the perfect park for a visit.
Gracie Warren
Highly recommend! This is a beautiful park with great scenery and some nice big open areas central location to almost everything we do in Louisville! Perfect location to kill an hour between plans or throw a disc around on a nice afternoon! Parking can sometimes be tricky when very busy and you have to be careful about the one-way sections of the park road!
Dan Meskel
This is a great park. It has a 2.5 mile walking lop and additional trails. Two kids play area, lots of seating benches throughout the trails and clean restrooms. We enjoyed our time at this park during our visit to Louisville!
Elizabeth Scott
If you’re visiting Louisville and need a good playground, want a place for your dog to run around, or just want to go on a walk/run/hike— this is the place to go. Love this park! Scenic loop is a great mix of hills and distance.
Dani B
I love this park! There is a myriad of things to do and places to explore. Trails for walking/ hiking. Picnic tables and areas for grilling. A hill for sledding in the winter and a Big Rock for jumping into the water or a rope if you prefer to swing in. The only downside is the pavilion has become a little run down, and the restrooms leave much to be desired. No distinction of Men or Women and the door sticks. Other than that this place is almost like a second home for me.
Thomas Higgins
Park will be closed most of 2019 for major road and bridge repairs. There will be extensive reforestation and clean-up taking place at the same time. With one way streets and do not enter signs it's already hard to navigate through one end to the other. You end up where you started from in an automobile. It's more biking and hiking friendly.
Igbo Bae’s Kitchen
The trails are amazing! My husband and I walk this park a lot. Its an awesome workout too and it smells so refreshing in the park
Erica B
Very big and spaced out park. Lots of big hills for people to walk, run, bike, stroll or whatever. There's a dog run, big rock, playsets, a lake, spray fountain, lots of woods to explore and so much more. You can host all kinds of events at Cherokee park but if you want a pavilion you have to reserve one!
L R
Nice walk paths, hiking trails, lawns, picnic tables, playgrounds and gazebo/covered areas. This is one of the best parks in Louisville. Frederick Law Olmsted--Google him and Louisville parks system. No need to thank me. Go here and enjoy nature. Take a walk, fly a kite, or have a picnic. (Playgrounds/spray grounds currently closed due to covid).
Beau Variant
One of the best parks in Louisville, plenty of trails to traverse, great spots for picnics and get togethers. Dog friendly so much so that they have a "Dog hill". Please make sure to utilize the trash cans and keep our parks clean!!!
Zuane Negron
Beautiful place! But I went to an event here and they don't have enough parking. The road is one way and you have to go all the way around to try to find a parking in your area since the next area is way to far. The gazebo, playground and splash pad where excellent plus so much shade. Beisdes the parking I love it!
Rebecca Jordan
This is a great park, I go regularly to walk on the scenic loop, and also a few of the trails. Highly recommend! The primary frustration is the rugby practices which occur twice a week in the evening, plus the matches on Saturdays. The parking is horrendous during this time, and the players and spectators, park in the lane for walkers, runners and cyclists. I wish there was an online calendar that would post when these rugby events occur, so I would know to avoid the park during this time.
Leah Rich
One of my favorite parks. Beautiful woods, paths, trails, and great for so many uses. Pick up litter that you see and help keep it clean!
Christine Chandler
Great park for the whole family. The creek is beautiful even though you swim in it. Makes sense however its cleaner and so peaceful
May Smith
I've used Cherokee as a park for photo shoots soooo many times. And I had my wedding here! I especially love Big Rock, as that is where there's easy access to the creek. But there are other hidden gems throughout the park and I still have yet to explore the paths in full.
Timothy Bruneau
Awesome park. Lots of places to walk. Lots of people around. Beautiful scenery. Tons of trails and paths. Lots of opportunities to do different kinds of workouts. Never feel like I'm following the same routine if I want some variation.
Katie DeAngelis
Best park in the city! Love walking the loop or exploring the many trails. It’s even better now that the roads are closed for COVID — hope it stays that way.
Jessica McDonough
One of the nicest areas to go in the highlands to get away from the hustle and bustle of stores and restaurants. Beautiful and covered with flowers this time of year. Went for a walk on the loop I'm really enjoyed myself today perfect time of the year for this. Even if I did get a sunburn. Where that sunscreen.
Jordan Smith
Always love Cherokee... So many trails. If you get lost easily bring your phone... Can get turned around quickly. Lol one time I thought I knew the area well enough (livee in Louisville 20 years) and... Added an extra hour onto the walk. Whoopsiedaysie.
Daniel Peters
There's a lot to love about Cherokee park. It has amenities for many different activities. The park it's mostly bound by a one-way road, the inner lane of which, is designated strictly for activities not involving motor vehicles. This gives walkers, cyclists, longboarders, etc., two miles of a full driving lane(mostly), with challenging hills, and beautiful scenery, looped for doing their thing. The park has a large open area with good parking, known locally as Frisbee Field, that can accommodate many team sports. Other areas include playgrounds, picnic areas with built in grills, a water play fountain, a half basketball court, as well as hiking-biking trails.
The park is well cared for by the Olmsted park people, as well as it's regular visitors.
Tim Omer
A fabulous city park. Great for dog walking, bike riding, frisbee throwing. Nice hilly terrain. Great running, wonderful mountain bike trails. Basketball, softball, picnics. A truly great urban playground designed by the great Frederick Law Olmsted.
Mark McNichols
Great park in Louisville. Lots of different things to do. Nice for a quick drive, lots of places to bike, great paths to walk and run, great places for group activities and parties. Very well maintained.
Bobbi Henson
Beautiful park for the whole family. Dog friendly. Great hiking trails and play areas for children. Also open fields to play sports or with your dog. Very clean and well maintained.
Linda Roe
I have walked dogs with my son in this park, attended a grandchild’s birthday party there, have taken children to play on the playground many times thru the years. I have to admit that my son is the one that has inspired each of these visits. That said, Louisville is so lucky to have the parks that we have and Cherokee is my favorite.
Hey Beautiful
That park is huge. A great place to go fishing, golfing, walking, jogging, and family time.
Tiz
Cherokee Park is the best walking park in Louisville. With a scenic loop separated for pedestrians & cyclists versus cars, both are able to enjoy without safety concerns.
There are places to reserve for gatherings and barbecues, fountains and basket ball courts, fields for frisbee players, rivers full of life, and hilltops for tanning.
Be sure to try the trails that weave off of the scenic loop, they are much better than the path! And drive slow, there are turtles that cross the road.
Have fun!
Jonathan Brown
Great park. Very nice loop that is 2.38 miles long if you just stay on the main loop. What I love about Cherokee is that it is also very close to Seneca so you can do long runs or bike rides through both parks. Very pretty and nicely maintained.
Nicholas Fischer
Best park in Louisville. It’s a massive park that is wedged in between quiet neighbourhoods. Trails go up and down hills, through the woods, creeks, plains and follow the park boundary road. Great place to set up a hammock or have a picnic.
Chris Bauer
Chill spot for walking. Beautiful rivers and foliage. Fun place for kiddos and adults alike. Plentiful trails winding through forests and roads biking and walking trails for those who prefer a flat surface. All in all, just a pleasant place to be.
Will Ready
A winding walking and biking loop, mountainbike trails, open fields, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, a swimming hole, and more, and it's all within the city limits. Cherokee Park is my favorite place in Louisville, and it makes living in the area fantastic. An outside visitor may not be wowed by it like you would Mammoth Cave or Red River Gorge, but visiting it again and again never ceases to be an absolute pleasure.
G C
Beautiful outdoor space. Amenities are being updated and improved. Interesting history to the park. If you do not know about it, then look into it. It is fun to know about. Cherokee is the second best park in the Louisville system. Check out Seneca Park also. Especially if you have children. Or play golf.
Chuck Stovall
1st Spring walk in 2021!! Gorgeous weather!! Great friends with me. The only spoiler were the inconsiderate dog owners who left their dog's waste on the track and on the side of the track.
Laura A.
Loved this park! Clean picnic locations, beautiful trees and creeks.
Justin Shaw
Awesome place for dogs and just about any outdoor activity you can think of. It's clean and fun. My wife and I actually got married here so it holds a special place in our hearts.
Mushroom
I live more in the city but when I want to get away from all the rough and tough of my concrete life, I come here every time. It's almost magical how this place stands on it's own and captures the essence of peace. Well maintained and I discover something new here each time I come. Wonderful!!
Ana Leason
This is a large and beautiful area to walk through but on my visit there were some dogs not on their leashes and I did not appreciate them wandering up to Vanya and I.
Robert MacKenzie
Great place to enjoy the outdoors without leaving the city. Both Cherokee and Seneca Parks offer trails, courts, golfing and just a place to enjoy the outdoors. One of my favorite places in Louisville and I will keep going back again and again!
C Jones
Nice park. I took my son to the basketball goal. Most people were polite and shared the rims. It was all good until a fight broke out so we left. This happened about an hour before dusk.
We went back at an earlier time of day and had a better experience. There was an ambulance (with two EMTs) parked near the basketball goals which adds a level of safety.
Zane Wilson
Wish I could rate this 6 stars. This is a star in Louisville. A three mile loop with one side for bike riders and people on foot is a great find. I would suggest you come here multiple times as you will always find something new. Such a great park inside the city.
Ronald L Usery Jr
Such a great park right inside the city. I love hiking and taking pictures.
Mason Roberts
I have spent so many days hiking, lounging, playing frisbee, driving, riding my bike, playing basketball, etc. at this park. This park has sooo much to give to the whole family. If you enjoy this park as much as I do, don't forget to support it by supporting the Olmsted Conservancy.
Pamela Britt-Smith
Has a safe walking, running or biking lane. Very spacious, beautiful grounds and scenery also very peaceful. Great place for photos, reunions, or any type of gathering.
Leslie Reeder III
Awesomecpark multiple trails and roadways for running or biking. Unique in presentation really enjoyed an afternoon walk waiting to zipline at the zoo
Taylor Clements-Smith
By a long shot this is the best park in Louisville. There are so many different trails and paths to explore as well as park areas for kids, mountain bike trails and event spaces. You won't be disappointed
Phillip Ashford
Best park in the city. Best city park in the state! Great paved trails as well as wooded primitive trails. In good weather you can always expect fun goings-ons at the hilltop near Hogan's Fountain and in the bottomlands near Cochran Hill.
J. V. Rychman
In town to visit my daughter on Christmass.
Was needing a little out door walk to shake down the feast of christmass just passed. So to the park Cherokee Park that is. Be forewarned you could get lost...its really BIG. Lots of room for that 1, 2 or 3 mile walk. Places to barbecue, Picnicking. Walking, and bicycling. Look out for Dog hill and what's left behind, or you will be taking it home on your shoes.
Have fun, I did...
Jenifer Bramer
After a rough day I laid on a blanket near a 300+ year old tree while a man a short distance away sat on a picnic table and plucked at his acoustic guitar. A beautiful place. A lovely experience. Home.
Lisa Hayes
I've been coming to this park for years. I've always enjoyed the landscape.and the fall foliage. Beautiful in the fall..
Karen Anderson
Great day for walking. Don't know why some roads thru the park are blocked off.
Enjoyed the area we walked in. Grass was cut and it was clean (no trash).
Roderick Mcclanahan
I SUPPORT OUR FISH AND WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT AND APPRECIATE THE FREEDOM TO VISIT 1 OF MANY PARKS AND LAKES JUST INSIDE JEFFERSON COUNTY WITH MANY PROGRAMS SUCH AS TROUT STOCKING, JUST FISHED YESTERDAY AND CAUGHT MY LIMIT OF TROUT IN A FEW HOURS I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND OUR BEAUTIFUL PARKS AND REMEMBER NOT TO LITTER AND PRESERVE OUR LAND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
Amber Caudill
Cherokee has always been my favorite part. Dog Hill is great for a view and to watch dogs play. The trails that weave around the park vary in difficulty from easy to moderate as far as walkability.
Brandt Swanson
This was our last stop before flying home. It was a perfect stop to walk and stretch your legs. It was a beautiful place with paved trails throughout. We would definitely stop if we were in the area again.
Rachael hall
Beautiful, clean, huge, unique. Been going here my entire life. Multiple areas for kids to play, tons of trails for hiking or biking. Great for dog, and perfect for sledding
Nikki Shaner
It was clean, safe, and a perfect fall day!
Donald and Sydney Creason
Always something fun to do if you love being outside, it's a big city level park in the heart of our hometown.
Dona Schicker
Family reunion number 16 all at Cherokee Park pavilion. Great place, ideal for large group. We grill food there on grills that are washed down by Parks Department personnel that morning and they also clean entire pavilion. Electricity is provided for crock pots and . also fans if needed. Plenty of items in play area for youngsters. Restrooms available, plenty of parking spaces close by. You can rent it for only $150 for all day long. Well worth it.
Keith Miller
Park. Big. Explore
Juanita Rivera-Smith
Cherokee park is a peaceful and beautiful place hang out in Louisville. I go to the park 4-5 times a week and spend about two hours walking/running the scenic loop and trails. The hills of the loop and varying trails provide a healthy workout and great scenery.
Philip A (Phil)
Autumn is beginning
Chad S
I love Cherokee Park and have been going there since I can remember so about 25 years and I can't say I've ever found anything I'd complain about personally. They do great at keeping it clean and kept up. I go there now mainly for the little archery range they have there to target practice for bow hunting season. They have even provided multiple archery targets for the public to use which I think is very generous and awesome of them to do that considering the amount of vandalism that goes on nowadays so if Cherokee Park itself is reading this,
Thank You and keep up the good work. I used to be part of the Olmsted park nuts I think it's called.
James Randolph
One of the most beautiful places on earth.
Mel Jones
I absolutely love this park. It is one of my favorite that I've been to here in Louisville that I've explored thus far.
Sarah Richardson
Beautiful and fun park with so many things to do and see!
Will Tomanek Jr
This park is great! Went for the MTB trails and was not disappointed! Trails were well maintained and the people here are always super friendly. Trails are split between some nice flowy sections and some rather difficult technical sections. Nice overall ride.
Jeff Glasser
Very pretty to hike, bike, or drive through. Some big open areas to picnic or throw a frisbee.
Glenn Patrick
an amazing green oasis in the middle of a bustling city, kudos to the foresight and planning by folks of the late 1800’s who decided that it would be a good idea to set aside 400+ acres (plus another large adjacent tract, Seneca Park)
Andrea Cesarello
The scenery was truly lovely. Nice big trees everywhere!
Caleb Johnson
Fantastic public park in Louisville - arguably our best urban green space. Check out Dog Hill, the soccer fields, the paved creek trail, or the newly renovated picnic area by Hogan's fountain!
Hannah English
Great walking trails and safe feel! Would recommend
Dmitri Gordon
Great place to get lost on a hike or jog. If you have one day to spend outdoors when visiting Louisville this is where you should come. No porta potties as of January 2021 so get ready to pee behind a tree
Blanqui
Love this park. A great place to jog or run the loop and let your stress just fall away. The beautiful trees and seeing others working out always made me happy no matter how stressed I felt before I got there.
Bill Jordan
Cherokee Park is gorgeous. Part of one of the top park systems in the country. Massive green spaces, wildlife, waterways, walking and biking lanes, dog park, Frisbee field, archery target field, Golf course, basketball court, and extensive walking trails and playground area.
Lauren Fish
Beautiful park! We especially loved playing 9 holes on the golf course and walking through the woods.
Rachel D
We stopped here for a place to have a picnic and found a picnic table in the shade so that was a plus.
Matthew Pahler
If you are going to be or have been in Louisville for a week or longer, and you enjoy nature or a nice walk, it would be foolish to not check out this park. It is a staple to the Highlands area of Louisville. We all love it so dearly.
Reva
This massive park is a gem in downtown Louisville. It has everything from a playground with water features, basketball, tennis, frisbee golf, dog run/hill, and a golf course. I believe it is a historical park. Parking is usually pretty easy to find. Sledding in the winter is a must!
Jarrod M
Great park for a run or walk with some elevation gain. Only complaint is parking is interesting to say the least, all of what Google maps says are the entrances are closed.
Kimberly Porter
This park in the heart of Louisville is perfect for an outing. There is a 6 acre hill for dogs to run without their leashes, there are multiple pavilions for gatherings, and there are numerous walking and mountain biking paths. It's conveniently located off Grinstead Ave, and is quite extensive.
Robbi Tracy
One of the most beautiful parks in Louisville. Plenty of things to do and places to explore. Make four legged friends on Dog Hill, have a picnic under the Witches Hat or hike one of the many trails.
An Everyday Man
This park is very clean and well kept. It's a very friendly park towards pets, joggers, bikers and fisherman/women. I don't fear of leaving my vehicle unattended in this park.
Eva Cahill
I love Hogan's fountain, AKA The witches hat! Born and raised in Louisville Kentucky, I am very proud of some of our parks and historical sites.

“Lots of Wildlife”
A great place to observe wildlife and protected flora. It can get crowded during summer, but if you'd rather avoid too many people, go when the weather is cooler. There is still so much to see
Emily Thomas
Big area, playground is decent. Bathrooms weren't in good shape. A lot of graffiti.
Nathan Green
This is a beautiful park for multiple purposes, including basketball, archery, pick up field sports, hiking, cycling, jogging, walking, or just enjoying the outdoors. It is the crown gem of Louisville's Olmsted Parks system.
Lucas Kern
Nice and very close to my apt which is a great resource to have. But could have more trails and be a bit cleaner.
Great for families/bikers/dogs thanks to the partitioned road
Tom Farmer
I lost a bunch of weight by, in part, running around in circles here all summer. And it only smells when it rains.
Also, if you're very lucky, you'll be able to see the ghost of Frederick Law Olmsted floating down the creek dressed as Judge Dredd and shouting, "I am the Law!"
Curtis Schuman
Nice place for a quick round. Please support it. The city wants to turn it into a park.
Stacey A
Large park with many areas to visit and hike. Try to look at the map and find the streets yourself. Don’t just use Google Maps because that had me going around in circles for a bit!
Miesh Wills
Fun to walk around with dog. Fun trails. Not terribly crowded. Park is clean however river that runs through could use some love.
Rainer Geis
Beautifully maintained and great for recreational activities. Tons of trees and canopies for those that need some nature. Awesome mountain biking trails. Several basketball courts. Honestly perfect
Eric Hall
Well kept, fun course
YOUNG REED
great park for all ages. plenty of space and excellent mtb trails and great in park roads for cycling and running. public restrooms and water fountains.
Kevin Kuntz
Great place for a hike through the woods of Louisville. Trails aren't marked as well as they could be, but a very nice hike. Watch for mountain bikers on the smaller trails off the main loop.
Tyler Radford
One of the best parks in town! They have good hiking, nice basketball court, a well maintained playground and great place to bike ride or walk.
Kyle Ciotti
My favorite park in Louisville. Go for a walk, trail ride on the mountain bike, look at the fish in the stream, sled down dog hill in the winter time, walk or jog up dog hill in the summer time for a fun challenge.
Ian Parker
Nice park. Good mix of hills and flats too get a nice training run or walk.
Larry V
Another must do place when in Louisville. Huge park and next to another one even bigger. Got lost in there, lol. Cherokee Park has paved sidewalks and unpaved walking trails that are nice to explore. ALL restrooms were closed though due to the cold weather. Needs some port-a-potties at least. I'd be my luck to duck behind a tree to go and a cop would drive by and see me and arrest me!!
Tim Zoeller
I love Cherokee park. Whether it's just a nice drive thru, or attending to one of it's many amenities, it's one of my favorites.
Scott Mcgraw
So where else can you be in the city but be in the woods? New York's Central Park has nothing on Cherokee. Mountain bike trails, dog park, and green spaces, one of my favorite places in the city.
Perry Elkins
Large, well-maintained park. Lots of walking trails. Joggers/walkers share part of the roadway in a "recreation lane" - so be sure you pay attention to the signage (loop road is one-way).
Steve Illgen
I always enjoy visiting Cherokee Park whenever I visit Louisville. It is a beautiful park that makes you feel like you are not in the city.
Barry Lauterwasser
Cherokee Park, part of a four park system in Louisville, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the architect of Central Park in NYC and countless other US Landmarks, is a gem of a park in Louisville. Whomever called it a quaint park, hasn't been through most of it. It boasts numerous activities including 12 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, tennis courts, baseball and frisbee fields...and many other activities. It is a destination when it snows for all the sledders in the city... My wife and I love the park and use it several times a month for walks and jogs and bike rides...
C. Tu
A beautiful park that is loved by locals and tourists alike. Set in a wooded gorgeous historic district of Louisville, Cherokee Park is a must for design buffs and nature lovers since it was created by Frederick Law Olmsted, one of the landscape designers of NYC's Central Park.
Steve Hart
Being an Olmstead par, it's one of the most beautiful places. Always lots of people walking during the day. Also one of the best places in the city to see fireflies after sunset.
Dennis Hummel
An Olmstead Central Park experience without a zillion people. There are streams trails and playgrounds. If lucky, you will see deer fox and a other small animals.
Doug Holbrook
Kids love the park with the big teepee shaped shelter. They ride bikes and scooters.
Lindsey Price
Take a walk or drive through this city park. Dog hill is great for sledding when it snows.
J Hytken
One of the most beautiful parks in Louisville! Plenty of space for picnics, outings with the family, running, biking, walking your dog, etc...
Charis Mings (Charis)
Great park with trails to enjoy. I recommend it. The weird spaceship pavilion is awesome and you can grill inside it. Lost of neat nooks and crannies.
Brad McClellan
It is a beautifully maintained park in the middle of a city with a playground. Cycling through it is great as the walking/running/cycling path is the left part of the road.
Sara Roquemore
One of the prettiest public parks. Perfect place for a picnic date or morning hike if you don't want to go too far from the city.
Nick Welsh
Beautiful place, great trails for all difficulty levels. Great place to walk your dog.
Garrett Wilson
This is the best park in Louisville AND YOU CAN FIGHT ME OVER THIS! Also, did you know that Louisville has 125 Metro parks? That's literally just the ones maintained by the city. And Cherokee is the best of them all.
Katie Kelley
Love this park! It’s beautiful and such a blast. I’ve been going here my entire life and I have always loved it. I cant wait to go back
Franklin James Orangias

Great views! Nice hiking and walking trails.
Robbie Bern
Beautifully architected park that attracts a wide range of visitors—from eclectic jugglers to diehard kick ballers. A great place to walk your dog while people watching.
Nick Brown
It's a pretty expansive park, my only complaint is so much of it is paved. It's a bit strange for traffic to go through so much of it. It's well kept and has nice people and of course only the best ladies.
JozARTSY
Cherokee is a great place to ride bikes, and walk trails in louisville. It is pretty populated on weekends
John Kokoris
A nice park with winding walkways and beautiful groves. The Cherokee Triangle neighborhood to the west of this park has truly beautiful homes. Very nice for a walk.
Jordan Lebahn
Awesome park hidden just outside downtown. There are lots of different paths to walk and open areas to sit and play or picnic.
K M
Nice park, well laid out and with plenty of parking spaces.
Jesse Seacat
I go to the dog park in hopes one of the dogs will feel sorry for me and visit with me but they're always to busy doing dog stuff with other four legged friends. It's still fun to watch them run and play, one of my fav places
Amanda Fernandes
The best date, picnic, thinking place to go. Great dog and ppl watching plus it's so beautiful all seasons
Ralph Lindop
Beautiful park connected to Seneca Park, with so many well maintained features between them: walking trails, dog parks, picnic areas, volleyball courts, golf courses, playgrounds, streams, bike lanes, archery range, fountains - but I love the Mountain Biking trails most of all - someone went to a LOT of work to get those trails in the shape they are in. Bravo!
Also located between two of the most eclectic areas in Louisville - St Mathews and the totally Weird Highlands : )
Tina Sizemore
Beautiful park with plenty of places to do many things such as have a comfortable lunch, play golf, tennis, basketball and more.
Mark Fleshman
The roadside trash was at a minimum this time! The bathroom was open and in good working order. Fellow pedestrian and bicyclic traffic is respectful and friendly enough.
Neal Resnik
We went their for a splash pad which they really didn't have a full blown splash pad, it was more like two fountains that the kids could run under. Overall very beautiful area.
Andrew Winkler
Louisville's signature park and a real beauty by Olmsted.
Shane Snelling
Nice park, lots of nature, several playgrounds.
Shuying Sha
The park itself is beautiful, but the restroom must be 200 years old and super dirty.
Lance Sizemore presents

Brent Pacheco
Great spot to go running with my fleet feet running crew. Challenging hills with plenty of more flat areas. Park is always nice and clean
Irene Rose Brown - Morning Dove Messages
The Park is Beautiful and well maintained. There are some things that need attending to, like some sign markings and soap in the dispensers, but it is a lovely place to take friends, family and pets.
Matthew Berchiolli
Cherokee Park has a special place in my heart, and has for over a decade. I moved away last year and came back to a lot of changes. My friends and I always hung out under what we called Squad Tree every summer... Unfortunately Squad Tree was cut down over the winter. The remodeling they did in it's place by the Witch's Hat makes up for it though. The new area is perfect to being your family to (: cheers
Randy Brown
Great trails, beautiful area.
Toni tinius-brady
The 2 and a half mile loop has a one way traffic pattern so pedestrians have a lane to themselves. It's a great place to walk bike or rollerblade.Pet lovers have an area for their dogs to run.Lot's of playgrounds and picnic areas.Public restroom is available as well as water fountains.Very scenic, beautiful place.Lot's of picnic tables.Bring your own grill and have a feast.

An Olmstead park, carefully preserved for it's original purpose but updated to today's reality. It can be peaceful, adventurous or happliy chaotic. Trails, vistas, shelters and golf. Nature and beauty, just for the looking.

All nestled in the scenic area of the highlands in beautiful Louisville

Designed by Olmstead, the same designer as New Yorks Central Park, #Cherokee is a favorite for many of the residents of #Louisville.
Great rolling hills, lots of trails, places to run, and to just relax.
My favorite for running and walking when weather permits. Also fun to go to just to people watch! Take a book and relax under a tree!
John Skelton
We walked past the Ninja bridge. Saw a ghost and made a wish at the magic tree.
Rory J
Great park and trails for running, mountain biking and easy hiking.
Troy Windhorst
This park has everything you need: Streams, trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, pavilions, playgrounds, and historic features. I give nearly all parks are good, however, I will award a top score if they have a little something special. For me, the special part about Cherokee Park is Big Rock. This area wraps around the bend of a stream that has cut into the side of a hill leaving a chunky cliff-like wall of various rock ledges. Hundreds of years ago, heck--maybe thousands, a large chunk of rock broke away from the cliff and landed in the side of the stream... and Big Rock was born. The rock is easily accessible, climbable, and has a large, flat top where one could have a picnic (of course, one shouldn't bogart the rock). The surface has been worn smooth from all the human paws that have gripped this hunk of limestone over the years. OTHER COOL STUFF: Historic Baringer Spring, the teepee-style shelter at Hogan's Fountain, and a Spanish-style shelter at Big Rock. I like that there are park roads utilized to make a complete one-way loop for vehicle traffic leaving the other side of the road only for those on bikes or on foot.
Vicki Dimi
