Secluded campground, sites are smaller and more convenient for tenting, but our 20ft worked just fine. The road in is also small and tight so wouldn't bring anything longer than 24feet or so in. Multiple small playgrounds. Coin laundry on site. Bathrooms need updating, but aren't horrible.

We absolutely loved camping here! The forest is very well marked so it wasn’t a big deal when we lost all cell reception. The campground is about a 10 minute drive past the entrance and about 20 minutes from the town.
There is a small but beautiful sounding creek that runs along the side of the entire campground. We were at Site 1 and set up our tent right at the edge so we could hear the water all night! The kids loved walking around in it, finding little minnows and splashing a bit. Perfect way to pass the time while I set up camp.
There is a small playground as well as decent bathrooms/showers just up the path. It was less than a 5 minute walk, and it’s all level ground.
There are parks hidden all over the forest! We had an awesome experience of deer coming right up to the edge of the park while we were swinging in a small grove across from the campground! It’s quiet and definitely gives the feeling of being away from the hustle of life! The Ranger patrolled periodically, and there was an open dumpster at the entrance to the campground that made it very easy to dispose of trash. There are also small trash cans all over the walking paths, next to bathrooms, and next to parks.
We would definitely stop here again!

We stayed in the campground in site 28. Site 28 is level, partial to full sun, fire ring, and picnic table. A wonderful little bubbling stream runs behind the site. The site is located behind another spot and next to the office. When new guests arrive they always wanted to check-in with us. The bathrooms are less than 50 yards away.
Travelers with trailers please be aware that this campground in not made for large travel vehicles. The website clearly states RVs or trailer/truck units longer than 26 feet are not recommended. Most of the spots are very tiny and can only accommodate a small pop-up or tent. Travelers please take this seriously. The roads getting into the park are residential and are very narrow.
The bathrooms are clean and are currently being remodeled by a wonderful volunteer staff. The showers are roomy with benches and the hot water pressure is fabulous. We drove around the campground and found other non shower bathroom.
Overall, the campground is small, tucked away in the Kanawha State Forest and great for tenting, with many primitive sites.

Kanawha campground was absolutely amazing! Tucked away in the mountains, super peaceful park and campground. The campsites were very well maintained. Would 100% go back!

Sites along the 'river' are right on the campground road; in late September there was virtually no water in the creek. Even though the campground was largely empty, there was a lot of driving traffic to a couple of long-stay campsites in the back. Our site was at the speed bump, so the trucks banging against that added charm.

Very nice campground! Nice quiet weekend. We camped next to a stream, the bathrooms were clean and there are 2 private showers. Very nice destination, will definitely return.

Kanawha state forest is the perfect forest getaway in the middle of Charleston. Heavily forested, privacy, and beautiful nature!

One of my favorite WV state parks. Lots of trails and a nice campground. Clean restrooms and even a nice flat paved trail for limited mobility. The creek and little pond is decent to fish. The park is also horse and mountain bike friendly. There is a gun range on the far end of the park as well. In the summertime there is a fairly nice swimming pool with plentiful parking. The park also has many picnic spots and day use areas.

Beautiful scenery, but if you’re planning on camping here you better not have a large camper. A fifth wheel will not fit through the narrow road with the low hanging trees. The staff is wonderful and gave us a full refund with zero problems. Very nice place for tenters and pop-up campers.

Been here 2x and will come back again. Great campground. Can hear coyotes at night! No cell service so make a reservation online I’m advance if you can as the camp host is not always on duty.

This looks like a great destination. did not stay as there appeared not to have any provisions for late arrivals. We have traveled across the US staying at state parks and found most have a standardized system for late arrivals.

The website indicated this campground to be suitable for small campers. We found that not to be true. We have camped throughout the country in all types of campgrounds. This was not one we would camp in with an rv & ours is a 19ft travel trailer built for off road camping/boondocking.

Great place tucked in West Virginia. Drive in was horrible, don’t recommend coming in from I-64, but instead from Charleston on 119. That way is paved but go slow, few boulders stick out and narrow. Coming in from I-64 your going few miles uphill on gravel road. Many blind corners, no pull offs, steep and not recommended when pulling a 34ft camper. Four wheel drive strongly recommended! No cell service, so you’ll have to drive to town to get services.

Nice little campground with water & electric hookups even though the power went out with a storm. No mobile phone signal in the area.

So pretty place to drive

Nice quiet place... Make sure you go in from 119 unless you like tight winding gravel mountain roads...
