Justin and Danielle in the bike shop were excellent! So quick, so easy to work with, and so, so fun to talk to. I had ordered new tires and picked them up in-store, thinking I'd have to schedule out an installation. I brought my bike anyways, and they squeezed me in no problem! I'm definitely already looking forward to the many more visits and upgrades I have planned!

Could not be more impressed with Ben in the ski department. There were two Bens in that department today, and we were working with the younger one. My wife has been trying to figure out her boot situation for awhile and he was so patient, competent, helpful, and non pushy as they come. We probably spent 45 minutes to an hour with him and he was talking through options, trying to see if we could make her current boots work, while looking at new ones etc. We ended up with new boots, while having her old pair fitting better than when we arrived and will use them as a backup. Too much to write it all but long story short. This dude knows his stuff, cares about the customer, and is truly a great representative for REI. Will be back no doubt!

I do like their outdoor selection. You will pay retail unless you're a member. Membership is free. You get notified of sales. This is when you will want to buy most of what you want or need. Also a good place to go to check out the size of an item before buying. Friendly and helpful staff. Snow peak items seem to never be on sale. But that seems to be the way at any store.

Needed a pair of trail shoes for the Spider Creek to Buck Gab hole in the central Cascades in WA this coming week. Eric was extremely helpful in helping me choose the right fit. The store did a very good job of keeping people safe by only allowing xx number of people in the store at one time. A little wait in line wasn’t too bad outside the store, hopefully these shoes will work out! Thanks team and THANKS ERIC!

I’ll start by starting I’ve always had good experiences with REI. And, they continue to live up to their customer focused reputation. I bought a very expensive pair of La Sportiva’s a few years ago. I liked them so much I went back a couple months later and purchased another pair and stuffed them in the back of my closet; fearing they’d be discontinued. To try and keep a long story short, I pulled them out just this spring after years of loving the first pair, broke them in a little and took off on an 85+ mile through hike. Whelp, the second pair had a big bump on the inside below the insole, that started wearing into my pinky toe on day 2 of 6 and there wasn’t a dang thing I could do about it, but keep trekking. Ended up with a bad infected pressure ulcer that required medical attention and cost me a week of work… Because the shoes had an obvious manufacturing flaw I went to return them, I mean they were brand new, even though years old. I was prepared to leave dissatisfied. But, the person behind the service counter at REI listened to my story and refunded my cruddy hikers for a new pair. Thank you REI and a big thank you to Anna!

Tomash from the camping section went above and beyond! I came in because the gasket for my camp stove was acting up and I wasn’t sure what was wrong with it. Tomash came out to my car and tested it out for me, literally on his hands and knees in the parking lot. After testing it, he wasn’t quite sure what the issue was, so I decided to get a small backpacking stove just to be safe, and he helped me pick it out. My hero! I’d also like to shout out the person working in customer service (I didn’t get their name) for their help too! Visit on 9/2.

I always have good luck buying online and picking up or returning to this store if needed. I've also had fairly good experiences buying speed here. However, today I found stuff I wanted to try on and probably would have bought if I could have tried it on. However, the fitting rooms are locked, and despite there being only about 10 customers in the store, I could not find someone to unlock a fitting room. There is a sign that says "Press to have fitting room unlocked" but no button to press. I will buy online in the future so I can try on at home and return as needed.

I have always had excellent customer service with knowledgeable, professional staff. My husband and I have purchased 3 quality bicycles here and have had zero problems with them. I love that they carry Smith brand sunglasses and equipment, Keen shoes and all the other great items. Our go-to store for sunglasses, shoes, coats, bicycles & gear, car accessories for bicycles, and camping equipment. I have never had a problem with anything I have purchased here! Great store, great people, great values, great community involvement.

So .. I've had a few really helpful interactions with people there .. Terry is an absolutely amazing backpack fitter and I truly appreciate her expertise .. my husband had a good experience with his new skis .. there was a little issue in that originally my husband was going to use his old bindings on his new skis, the tech and he discussed that the old bindings may not be good, the tech took off one binding, decided that both bindings we're good, drilled holes in both skis to find that the second binding wasn't functional once it came off the ski .. luckily my husband was able to get a new pair of the same binding, hopefully they're safe .. Past review: Well stocked store but the service is deplorable; try calling for a curbside pickup ... the staff is always eager to put you off, they won't get your stuff unless you are sitting there and then it takes forever for them to find it .. and they're always so snotty. Try getting help in the store; they're so busy talking with each other it's difficult to interrupt. Update: I just spoke to the manager who was completely un-helpful and pathetic.

Always been a fan of REI, but this store is especially great! Very helpful, but not pushy staff and I usually find what I'm looking for, or something even better. Biked over to the store around dusk once and bought a new bike light and set it up on the spot to see my way home. That's how confident (and last minute ;p) I was in REI helping me out. Oh, and become a member, it's worth it!

I really like that they limit how many people are in the store at one time and that everyone has to wear a mask. Also my experience was fabulous and that I bought a pair of boots a couple of months ago that just were not working for me and I took them in and they let me pick out a different pair of boots and did an exchange for me I really appreciate that.

Amazing service, especially in the ski area. Bought ski boots from Julie. One of the best retail experiences I have had. Julie was a sweetheart and VERY knowledgeable. The store was closing and I did not feel rushed to make any kind of decision. If you are looking for amazing service and a friendly face to help you out, ask for Julie!

Okay. Some context, though. I worked for several years, in the mid-70s, at the Parent Store (Seattle Pike/Pine, before they expanded to Berkeley, even). The days before the mega structure on Lake Union, yes, the Jim Whittaker era. And how the demographic mix has changed. Today after coping with two semi-interested employees, I noticed a $90 coffee cup. Looked like a Yeti but I guess had 4x the bragging rights. Hmm, and this "impulse" item invited me to examine and re-think the place. Yuppie heaven, and proudly so. If that's you, then this is your place. But in Idaho? Nah. My reality-check sensibilities limit my evaluation to Okay.

I love the return policy on shoes and boots. It used to be better but lowlife people used to, and still do, take advantage of the generous policy and return their shoes for new ones.

Let me preface this review by saying that I am from Seattle, and discounting the number of REI's in the metro area there compared to Boise, or the fact that Portland has two stores, and even Spokane has one very big store (Although not as big as the downtown Seattle store), this REI is a bit of a let down. Unlike other reviewers that have had attitude issues with their employees, I have not. They have all been polite to me, attentive if I had any questions, and not condescending at all. No, what keeps me from giving this REI a higher score is a combination of the size and the lack of product. It almost seems like the headquarters in the Seattle area decided to put a store here as an afterthought. Considering that it is the only store in the area, and Kennewick, WA is the next closest store at almost 200 miles away, and with how outdoorsy and active people in Boise are, one would think that this store would be bigger. And stocked. When I was last in there, looking for an anti-fog, the employee was apologetic in that they not only did not have that, but had a handful of googles, skis, ski boots, and other items, in early January. I don't know if this was a failing on the part of the corporation itself in not sending enough product or a failing on the part of the manager (Or whoever orders product for them) that so much of the store was lacking in product. Admititantly, that was the worst stocked area, with plenty of other areas having plenty of product, but the store looked a bit picked over overall. The bike racks, hanging above one side of the store were rather barren, and the some of the bike products were not replenished, even during the holiday season. Boise deserves a larger and better stocked store. From my experience the employees are doing well, but the size of the store seems like the Boise store is not even considered worthy of their time and effort to have a proper store to represent the brand. REI can do better, and do better everywhere else that I have been. This is not the REI that Boise deserves, but it is what we are stuck with. Hopefully that will change.

Boise REI is great thanks to the awesome and helpful staff! Eric in the shoe department helped me get the PERFECT new hiking boots. I finally am at an age where I appreciate stores like REI for their customer service as they ultimately save you time and energy finding what you need. Obviously it’s “easier” to buy online (and sometimes cheaper) but outdoor gear sometimes needs to be felt and tried in person.

One of my favorite outdoor gear stores. They have a great rewards program and I particularly like their return policy. My sleeping bag failed on me (the mummy bag cinch cord tore out) which made for a cold night on an early spring back packing trip in Stanley, Idaho. They were great about the understanding the problem and replacing the bag. Thank you for that.

I was in the store today to pick up a roof rack system and cargo box that I ordered online. It didn't work with my vehicle and Doug in customer service spent more than 30 minutes with me, returning half of it and ordering the rest. He was incredibly kind and extraordinarily helpful. What he didn't know, I was on my way to have one of our pets put down and my thoughts and words could barely process. I watched him help other associates and answer the phone, and every time, he was just as patient as he was with me. I live and work west of Caldwell, so many times it's easier to shop online, but I will always give REI my business. Thanks Doug, REI is lucky to have you.

Just bought the Half Dome 2 Plus tent after a lot of comparison shopping online & in-person discussion with sales clerk, a fellow backpacking dog owner, who owns this tent. On another occasion a sales clerk juggled at least 4 other customers & myself in the backpack department, giving each of us personalized attention, expert fitting advice & answering our questions. She was amazing! I haven't found this depth of knowledge or personal experience with the merchandise at other stores of this type.

Best value is to become a member. You get a little back in rewards every year depending on what you bought. You get even more back with their card. Their warranty and return policy is excellent and as a member they remember your purchase. Their sales and outlets mean you often get very competitive prices. Bike shop in this location is good. One of the best sources for quality outdoor equipment. They cater more to the granola crowd than the hunting crowd. If you are a Hunter, don't mention that talking to the employees.

Would give 10 stars if I could- No lie, seriously the best REI I’ve been to so far, the staff is so friendly. (Embarrassing story)- I lost my purse in the store before my flight the next morning and didn’t realize until 45 minutes after they had closed the store that it was missing. I called customer service and they got ahold of the team at REI Boise. I was on hold for a whole 2 minutes and they already figured out where my purse was. 🤣 Most customer service lines you stay on hold for 4 hours and a lunch break and they still don’t know what the hell is going on, if you ever just need a friend - REI customer service has the most bomb people 😂 Any-who, they stayed long after close so I could make my way back to grab my purse so I didn’t miss my flight the next day. Also had the smoothest exchange process ever with them for some shoes that were too small. I will ALWAYS recommend REI. Seriously the best company ever. Take ALL my money! 😂

Knowledgeable staff and a good selection, for the most part. However, my one complaint is that they don't carry any plus sizes in their clothing and equipment. Believe it or not, plus size people go hiking as well. A bit discouraging.

Recently moved to Idaho from Colorado. I decided this season would be a good one to finally have a pair of ski boots that weren't hand-me-downs. I went in and got fitted by Gus. He was friendly, kind and knowledgable! He was not pushy or upset that I decided not to buy a pair in the same day. He had just started doing custom ski boot fittings and made sure that he was doing it correctly by having another employee oversee his procedures. Overall it was such a great experience, thanks for all the help Gus(and Brad)! I'll be back for all of my outdoor gear needs.

Bought snowshoes online through a close out sale at REI a couple of shoelace rivets ripped out while trying them on. Went on the website and filled out paperwork to return them to the store. Got to the store and within minutes had my refund. Only one problem, the store was out of snowshoes. So I couldn't get another pair.

I dealt with Brad in the bike and car rack area and he was the nicest manager I've ever met. I had a car rack installed earlier today and it had some issues. I called back in and was asked to come back and see if it was installed correctly. After Brad looked at it and fixed the issue he refunded me my money to make sure I was satisfied (even though I would have been with my car rack fixed by him). He was so kind and professional and I appreciate that. While dealing with this I shopped and dealt with Joel and he also was so nice and respectful and helped me pick out shoes. Membership pays for itself in no time and the semi-regular garage sales are an incredible opportunity to round out your gear needs! REI is always great. BUT beware the garage sale item tags. My fault for not unpacking it before buying it, but the tent I bought for nearly full price listed as "too cold used twice" it was actually destroyed. The mesh was burnt and ripped from tent top when I unpacked it. Sad that whoever returned it lied and REI did not confirm reason. It is worthless $195 down the drain....

I was hesitant to go into REI. My last couple of visits I didn't quite receive a warm experience. TO MY SURPRISE this visit was a complete turn around. All of the staff I encountered were knowledgeable and helpful. Lizzi was no only knowledgeable, but extremely friendly. I even finally joined the co-op, which I had said I would not do. Way to go REI you changed my mind.

We went in to look at somw hiking shoes and eeping bags, Traeger was incredibly knowledgeable with the shoes and more impressively he answered our 3-year-Olds never ending questions with exceptional patience, which gave us the time to find what we really wanted and we got everything we needed in one trip. Was looking for Yakima crossbars called railbars, the associate did not recognize the items, after a few minutes she was able to realize that I was asking for a new system that was replacing wispbars. Neither of which they REI carried, but she suggested I look up the sales section of Yakima's website. She was helpful when if they didn't carry what I was looking for.

Brought a new-to-me pair of skis in to have the bindings remounted for my boots. Through some misunderstanding they thought all I needed was a function test and called me the next day to ask permission to remount and up the price, I let it slide since I knew remounting would be pricier. I brought them in initially on Friday and after their call about remounting on Saturday afternoon was told they would be ready by the evening. Received no call that night so I called on Sunday and was told by the technician that he couldn't find my skis. After looking for them they called me back telling me they found them but may not even be able to remount them without the correct jig which they may or may not have. I am still waiting to see if they have the jig but suffice it to say I will not be taking my skis or my boots to REI again. Update: They had the jig and were able to mount the bindings.
