Reviews of Rockwood Manor Retreats & Events

I'm writing this review from the perspective of a wedding photographer who captured a wedding at this venue. It's a great venue, and very secluded from noise that you may hear from the street. The grounds of the location offer a variety of places to capture great portraits and formals. There is a pretty spacious ceremony location outdoors, but it can be hard for photographers to maneuver to get some closer shots of the couple without impeding the guests and being a distraction to the ceremony. The event space in doors can be a little dark, especially with the wood-beamed ceilings, but a good photographer should be able to accommodate for that. There are bridal suites on the property as well as other buildings that the groom can get ready in as well. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. I would love to photograph another wedding here.

Rockwood Manor worked great for our on budget small 60 guest. It is a little red brick manor with tranquil scenery of green and seasonal flowers. Their outdoor ceremony is beautiful but we had to go with the indoor ceremony due to the rain. It worked out well. Luckily it stopped later and allowed us to take advantage of their pretty exterior. Due to logistics of our caterer, we did the whole ceremony and party time in the main dining room. We were more into singing then dancing so it worked out great. We used the fireplace area for stage & sweetheart table and still be able to fit 9 tables (plus DJ) in the main area of the room. Since they don't limit caterers, we allowed to pick an affordable option with amazing food (shoutout to Classic Catering). We booked the Carolyn cottage for storage the day before and staying the night of the wedding and it helped a lot since both of us were exhausted after the wedding.
Overall a value for money option. However, there are a few downsides that I might want to reconsider if I did it again: (1) It is pretty bare bones and will require extra efforts for decoration. The dining room has a large empty bookshelf that needs a lot of small stuffs to fill it up. (2) Their timeframe is only 8 hours. Extra hours are not cheap. Combined with (1), it became a real stress for me to plan and prepare for the day (my coordinator was a superwomen to pull things together in less than 2 hours).
I think it will be a really attractive venue if they make some effort in renovation by adding some decor and extend the duration of their package.

We've hosted our retreat two years in a row now, and the place is stunning! We've hosted from 50 to 60 people comfortably, and the meeting space is perfect for our group to have a space to connect and relax - with a warm fireside. Even in January, when we host our annual retreat, the place is warm and cozy. Highly recommended!

Beautiful historic buildings, and a great nature space!

This review is for the overnight lodging. Overall, it's a good value. The house is decent enough, the fridge and microwave worked and there is a volleyball net outside.
The house was mostly clean but would be better with a deep cleaning. There was a lot of dust as well as a few stray leaves under the beds. The beds and rooms were comfortable. There's an on demand water heater so we never ran out of hot water. I'd stay again if I'm ever in the area.

Our wedding was absolutely gorgeous! Just wished we paid more for more time at venue. Wedding and reception went by too fast.

Went here for a wedding event (like, to help people planning weddings and such) and it was packed, but there were basically no vendors. Parking was a nightmare. We walked around and checked out the rooms and grounds. It has a very strong "camp" feel to it. I was in scouts and it gave me a lot of fun nostalgia!

Lovely older building off Maryland's MacArthur & Clara Barton parkways which are lovely (but slower) drives. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. The building has been well maintained. It is, however, an older building and in September, after lots of rain, the basement was musty. The basement does have doors opening right onto the beautiful grounds. The bathrooms are limited but were adequate for our group of 50+ since we could use them whenever we wanted and we didn't have a rush at breaks. An elevator is available.
