After having brunch in the area, I decided to check this place out. It's a pretty cool spot with a good selection of books and vinyl records. Found some wonderful treasures at a great price. The shop dog is adorable! Would love to go back and poke around some more.

Omg the selection of these books, in pristine condition, is endless! And such great prices! The book store has what seems like 1000 shelves (all handmade I found out when I visited!) and they’re all full! There’s a little coffee nook where you can serve yourself and sit in comfy chairs and read. And Jazz the dog is so sweet and likes to visit with you if you like, but will leave you alone if you prefer. Highly recommend this place!

Easily one of the best music stores in Hampton Roads for new and used vinyl. The staff is very knowledgeable. Give them a call and they'll scour the racks to find the disc in which you're interested. And, they fully support Record Store Day.

Amazing selection for a good price. By far the best record store in the 757 no question. The staff is amazing every time I go. It’s definitely a pleasure to come to this store and check out their selection. On top of that they have amazing book selections for very cheap as well. 10/10 would recommend especially if you like collecting vinyl.

I LOVE this store, it's my favorite book store! The employees are so nice and know immediately just about any book or author you are looking for and are always happy to recommend or help you find something. The prices here are great, they often have deals going on, and they have a SHOP DOG. They have everything from books to comics, to records, CD's, DVD's, games, and little things like incense and such.

AFK Books and Records is my absolute favorite small business not just in VA Beach but also in all of Hampton Roads. Incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgable staff that are always ready to help, whether it's ordering a book or record or suggest something new. Seems like deals are always available on old & new albums, and they always have a GREAT selection in their "just arrived" section. I spend most of my time in that part of the store. Over all, a great place.

I had a variety of books and CDs just taking up space in the house so after a Google search, discovered this gem of a store. They offer a huge selection of books, CDs, albums, gift items (amazing sock selection) etc. They have a lounge area in the back with space to relax, read, sip coffee or if you wish strum the stores acoustic guitar (adorable note encouraging music lovers and players of all levels). This is just a quick summary of what they offer so you must visit to get the full experience and see the incredibly priced finds. If you want to make a few extra dollars, they do take the time to review your items and make a reasonable offer. I was satisfied with the offer for my items which would have probably been dropped off at goodwill. Times are tight and the extra cash definitely came in handy. Of course if you are able, they always take and greatly appreciate donations. The welcoming staff and relaxing environment is a breath of fresh air in these stuffy times. Thank AFK!

This was my first time here, so these are my first impressions. First, the store is large and is packed with merchandise! Second, it had great tunes going and incense burning. Reminded me of record stores and head shops of my youth. Third, I went to buy records and their selection was AMAZING! I spent an hour in there looking through stuff, and if I wasn't hungry for lunch, easily could have spent another hour! Prices were comparable to other record stores. Great selection especially punk/metal/indie. Everything is very nicely organized within its genre. Great used selection which is always updated. A decent collection of 7”s and cd’s. Posters. Stereo equipment (real turntables not just plastic garbage) and shirts. Incredible staff who is helpful and knowledgeable. MOST IMPORTANTLY: there is no snarky vibe to the shop. Super low-key. Always friendly. This is my favorite record shop in the 757.

The atmosphere is great, staff/owners are great, selection is great, and Jazz is extra-great. :-) I stop in every couple of weeks and always find things on my to-read list and some new titles as well. This is such a neat place to browse for either books, movies, CD's but especially vinyl! All hail the Great Vinyl Revival! Pretty good selection across multiple genres and really reasonably priced! Especially when you consider it's a locally owned business. The staff is very friendly and helpful, always willing to chat music or books. I love frequenting this store and plan to do so ofte.

AMAZING shop. Looks brand new on the inside, and smells great. Enormous music selection, massive and well organized books section. Book prices are typical (50% off retail, used) but condition is almost entirely like new. Staff is friendly and approachable and not breathing down your neck. Absolutely recommend.

AFK is a great record store with a huge selection of music, both new and used. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and more than willing to help you track down an item that you are looking for. They are a great place to keep up with local music, new releases, and they always have awesome giveaways going on. They'll even buy your records for a fair price if it's something they can use in inventory. I can't speak on the book portion of the store, but I'd have to imagine it's just as nice and we'll organized as the music portion of the store. They are truly a one stop shop for all things vinyl.

This store is RAD. My parents live on the Eastern Shore, so I travel through Virginia Beach a lot, and I always stop by AFK. They have an awesome selection of stuff, and I always walk out surprised at what I've found! The staff is welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. They're always recommending me stuff and answering a million dumb questions from me! Also, the bathrooms are clean, neat, and gender-neutral. All in all, AFK is easily one of my favorite bookstores, and I highly recommend it!

This is without a doubt, my favorite bookstore. I avoid going to large chain book stores because the cost of new books has gotten outrageous. I always find great deals in AFK and never leave empty handed. They are always well stocked and willing to order anything that they don't have in stock. The store is always neat and clean and the staff has always been very friendly and helpful.

This is my favorite record store in the area. Always a wide selection of new vinyl as well as older pressings. The records are very well priced and I buy a lot of my records here as a result. They also have a wide selection of new and pre-owned books, movies, and video games. I always enjoy heading here and I never leave empty handed.

i really like it here! there's a bunch of stuff to check out, whether ur there for the books or the records... big selection of movies, video games, comics, cds, & manga as well! the folks working there seem nice as well! i think someone else had mentioned this before in another review, but i also like the fact that i can just browse without someone trying to talk to me or try to help me find something. first time i went, i saw a dog in the back of the shop! they weren't there when i went for a second visit, but it was a very cute dog and i'd like to see them again :-) they've also got gender neutral bathrooms, plus a little station for tea & coffee! i could see myself stopping by a lot more in the future!

Great store has an amazing selection of books, movies, comics, etc. Only issue is when special ordering books make sure you get confirmation that they will order it. Ordered a book on Sunday and was told it would be there Wednesday. Wednesday came, I went in to pick up my book and was told that it was not even ordered yet. Was told it was busy Sunday and they never got around to it, but was then told that the distributor they get the book from only takes orders when they get to a certain price. Which was not disclosed to me when I originally ordered. I went ahead and cancelled the order and plan to get the book somewhere else. If I hadn't gone in and waited for them to call me I'm not sure when I would've gotten my book. Be iffy when special ordering books and stick with what they have on the shelf...other then that great place with great prices, deals, and sales.
