I heard about Novel Neighbor months ago from my best friend who shared a Tik Tok made by them about book recommendations. Then STL Bucketlist posted about them ranking them as one of the top two book stores in St. Louis. So my husband and I decided to make the store the first stop of our date night. What a nice little treat in the middle of town this store is! We went on a Thursday night and it looked like there was an author reading and signing in a larger section of the store. We didn't know the author, so we browsed the quiet store pretty much alone. The fiction section is well-developed and full of little notes written by staff on their thoughts about various pieces. The children's section was vast and even included the cutest little reading corner. I also really appreciated the MANY themed trinkets (lots of different book and TV show fandoms) available for sale. There was truly something for everyone available here. I purchased All This Could Be Different (recommended on their Instagram page with specific interests listed that pointed to me enjoying the book), my husband purchased a collection of Edgar Allan Poe's greatest pieces, he bought a neat wooden Lord of the Rings bookmark, and I bought a Our Flag Means Death magnet. Honestly, the only thing missing from this store is a cat or dog roaming the shelves.

I live in Tennessee and found the Novel Neighbor on TikTok. I am trying to buy from independent, minority and/or women owned bookstores versus the convenience of Amazon. I was so excited to get my 15 year old, avid reader nephew a mystery box subscription for Christmas. He thought it was the coolest gift. My mother-in-law gave me a gift card for Christmas. I am blown away by the customer service and the ease of shopping online! I ordered 2 books, one was available and one on order. At checkout, it stated that orders containing pre-orders or books on order would not ship until all books were in store and I was prepared to wait. Imagine my surprise when I got a beautifully wrapped package with one of the books and a hand written note. (They did send me an email, which I only read now- my personal email is a disaster!) Even from 400+ miles away, they provided above and beyond service that will keep me ordering books!

This is my go-to place for gifts, books or other "gifty"-type things. I just think it's the best bookstore in St. Louis! Not only do they have a great selection of books for all ages, but they generally have a really good selection of other items that would round out a gift bag nicely. I can spend hours just looking around the store - the building has so much character, it's perfect for a bookstore. The staff is great, the events are good, and I think the mystery box is a wonderful idea.

The Novel Neighbor is probably my favorite near-by bookstore. Books are easy to browse, gift selection is unique and quite often local, employees are helpful. I usually end up buying something I hadn’t planned on buying. It’s great for gift shopping.

Incredible book store! I saw them on TikTok talking about an author signing that was coming up. I live on the West Coast so wouldn’t be able to go in person so I emailed asking if I could order a signed book to be shipped. They were happy to do so and didn’t even charge extra! Above and Beyond! I attended their used book pop up sale last weekend with my grandchildren. We all found books which made us happy. When I went to leave, I was parked on the side street on a patch of ice, and my car just wouldn’t go. In desperation, I went inside to ask for help, and boy did I get it! I didn’t get her name, but she found a bag of salt and a shovel, followed me outside and got busy! With her help and the help of a few customers, my car was freed. I love this bookstore for all the usual independent bookstore reasons, but this was above and beyond. Customer for life!

The BEST bookstore in STL! Order a mystery box! The amazing staff at The Novel Neighbor will pick out gifts and books for your friends and family. Just give them a budget, a few interests of your recipient, and they do the rest! We have ordered at least 4 mystery boxes for birthdays this year and NN nails it every time. They are known for their customer service and depth of knowledge in the literary field. Mystery boxes are another home run!

We just visited for the first time a couple weeks ago. My kids' favorite author just published a new book. I called ahead and they were nice enough to track down.and hold their last copy for us. The shop has a well-chosen inventory of books and gift items, without feeling overwhelming. The staff was warm and helpful and we felt totally comfortable shopping there during Covid-19 restrictions.

This place was so stinkin adorable! We made a special trip to the area just to come here and thankfully it didn’t disappoint. It was well staffed with a good selection of books. Had a great feel snd vibe. Will definitely go back. Only suggestion I have is the place was pretty busy and they were trying to move books from the top shelf of an area that a lot of people were enjoying looking. We all kept bumping into each other trying to get out of the way. Maybe they could do big moves like that when it’s not so busy.

There is a small parking area behind the building for those who do not want to parallel park. The store itself has a winding layout with a number of rooms. It was too crowded for my comfort the day I went and I left quickly. They had another roomy event space on a lower level that showcased other indie businesses. Very friendly staff. There were books, adult coloring books and supplies, craft kits, puzzles, knickknacks and more. Masks are required now but social distancing is difficult with a crowd and some narrow aisles. There was a sign advertising curbside pickup.
