Reviews of Baldwin's Book Barn
Matt Carlino
This place was great! Far too much to digest in one visit, so I'm looking forward to coming back. Picked up two completely unexpected books for myself, and really enjoyed thumbing through all the different books. The building is perfect for housing so many books, and I imagine on a dreary winter day you could burn up a few hours and not even know it. Love the old wooden arch doors.
Karen Sweigart-Harris
Amazing! I spent so much time exploring the shelves on all 4 floors. The weather was 90 degrees outside but inside the barn it was a perfect temperature. How they keep everything so clean is beyond me. I will be sure to come back again on my next trip.
Juls Fallows
First time going to the barn and it was a dream come true! The feeling of this charming book store exceeded my expectations as I explored all four floors. As a English student in college it was fun to thumb through all the famous books I’ve heard of. I had a couple books in mind I wanted to find, I only found two but ended up walking out with six books total! (For a very reasonable price) The management is beyond friendly and helpful. Do yourself a favor and go visit!
Tim Eagle
I'm a writer, so of course, I had to stop for our YouTube channel, Dark Nest Travels. What did I find? I found a hardcover, first edition Thinner, by Richard Bachman, with a dust jacket. Great deals and great service here. There are four floors to discover the book or books of your dreams. I highly recommend this place!
Megan Smith
Found this on a whim and definitely will be back! It is a super cute place to purchase used books or donate your books. There’s quite a selection that you’ll be in there for a couple of hours exploring!
Amber Lenneper
Everything you could ever want in a historic bookstore. The building is deceptively big, and it is an adventure to go through all four floors of books. They are categorized into genres, and there is such a charm to the place that only a building built in 1822 can have. The staff are amazingly friendly, and highly recommend you stopping by.
C Hilt
I love exploring this beautiful book store. Carol, the manager, is so knowledgeable and a delight to talk with about the books. Highly recommend!
Richard Apostol
While the Book Barn is not for everyone, and some folks will not like the way the books are organized and the way the collection of rooms are laid out and maintained, it is becoming an increasing rare type of establishment and contributes to the mixture of interesting places in Chester County. So stop by, buy a book, and help keep the place going. Sometimes it is nice to just touch and skim a book as part of the purchasing experience, rather than buying on line. If you love books, it is worth stopping by.
Jenn Richardson
This store made me fall in love with books as a child. I started coming here when we'd visit my grandparents in West Chester back in the 90's and it's still a place I hold dear to my heart.
Update: I finally got to bring my own children here 11/2022! The lady there was so wonderful and accommodating and memories were made!
Brandee Bartlett
It's a great place to for book lovers to stop and spend an hour looking for a book you'd like. It's harder to go in and find a book unless you have a general genre you follow, or if you have some favorite authors to look for. I love coming here for a book, it's a great atmosphere too!
John Truempy
If you like books this place is heaven on earth. It is literally an old barn filled with books. I go to many used book stores but none are as good as this one. Even just the feel of this place will thrill a bibliophile. From the creaking floors to the random chair to just sit and look through a book. Even the low beams (that yes you can and I have hit my head on) have an odd appeal with the random "Duck" sign. But if I had to sum it up just around the books it's 4 floors floor to ceiling books.
Kayla F
The location has lots of books, but most of them are very old or non fiction. If you're looking for a fiction book this used bookstore is definitely not for you. The prices also seemed pretty high for what fiction books they did have.
Cody Deering
Very awesome experience, a lot of neat and older books. I picked up 3 books of a series for a pretty fair price. Definitely a great place to stop if you like history or reading.
John Murphy
Amazing old farmhouse filled with books and maps and lots of cool stuff
Yasmin Moghadamnia
A most wonderful place. Magical and lovely.
Kelley Lock
A little treasure in West Chester! My daughter and I found this to be a impressive book store. I recommend having at least an hour grab a map inside, and you will find wonderful books. I also enjoy the fact that you can sit and read or pick up and purchase.
Jenni Butler
A rustic barn overflowing with four floors of books - sorted by subject. Be prepared to spend a good amount of time browsing through the stacks! If you love the smell and feel of books, this place is paradise.
As this used book store is inside a barn, I do not think it would be a good choice for someone who needs accessibility accommodations or someone with small children (although they have a large selection of picture books and classic children’s literature)
Jasmine Rosario
It was such an amazing experience wandering for hours through 4 floors worth of books! They have TONS of books on every topic, although a lot of them are older and on the pricey side for used books. I mainly enjoyed the experience of seeing such a wonderful old structure filled with my favorite thing (boooooks!!) If you are in the area you should definitely stop by. Bundle up if it’s cold outside, they do not have modern heating/cooling amenities.
Astrid Lim
Amazing place. As a booklover, I couldn't recommend this place higher. Incredible old building with more than 250,000 books- what more can you ask? Just make sure you have ample time to browse all the gems here that spread into 4 floors. From collectible editions, old school children books, poetry and non fiction- this place has them all. I visited during the winter and the Christmas vibe made this place even more charming. Please note that this bookstore is a bit hard to reach to, because no public transport goes here and the best option is to go by car. It's about 45 minutes from Philadelphia.
Maria Wilson
If you’re a fan of used books, you absolutely need to check this place out. There’s a great selection of books organized into categories throughout the barn. Plan to spend some time here. The barn is big, with multiple rooms and levels. It’s easy to get lost in the aisles of books, but the barn has so much character you won’t mind.
Sherry Hunt
My friend and I traveled over an hour to visit this lovely barn. We spent hours looking through rooms of books of every kind. It is not particularly handicap accessible but a call ahead informed us of that in advance. I could not reach every floor but had plenty to do where I could access. I had a wonderful time!
David MacIndoe
Quite the experience! A used book store straight out of a storybook. It is very unique and you will get lost in all the rooms because it is a maze; but every turn brings something new. If you like old books, you will find so many classics here that you wouldn't get at most book stores, especially chains like Barnes and Noble. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because ALL the books are dated. It would be nice if they had a new release shelf or something to appeal to most modern readers, but other than that, you will find some old gems here. Also, don't go if dust and old books make it hard to breathe. Definitely worth a look if you're in the area; sadly I live too far away to check this place out more
Emily Bennet
The most delightful slice of heaven. Could spend forever in this place, the man was so incredibly nice, amazing and what feels like a nearly infinite selection of books.
jak shadows
A veritable bookworm nirvana. This place is awesome if you love books and browsing for them. Separated by genre only so you will have to browse, but that's part of the fun!
Psalms 118:17
A fun side trip on my way back home to Annapolis...so many books and even local honey! Such a unique and historical place to visit! A must see!
Xis Images
5 floors of vintage, rare, and wonderful books! They have books on just about any subject you can think of. We were greeted by a friendly cat named Bingo and the lady that rung us up was so sweet. Will definitely be going back, it's totally worth the hour and a half drive it takes me to get there!
Michelle Kaufman
Really incredible book store! I couldn't believe the variety of sections throughout the store and the sheer volume of used books that they had. Truly, this is a book store worth traveling to see.
Lexi
An amazing place full of fantastic, rare & collectible literature. It's an historical building full of historical books -- what an adventure! A Must Visit
Debra Redifer-Fritz
Lovely place to visit and grab a few books. The barn is fabulous and customer service going in and at check out was excellent.
Leonard Bell
A very unique used bookstore . It is located over four floors and multiple rooms in an old barn. The selection is extensive and well organized. I highly recommend this store.
Jason Martin
Amazing place. I was looking for FICTION so not a lot here but this place has everything else. The building was built in 1820 and there is 4 floors of stuff.
John McGeorge
A magical, mystical place. You may come here with a specific book in mind, but keep your mind, and afternoon, open to explore its many floors, shelves, nooks, and crannies. You may find everything from the latest bestseller to yesteryear's chart toppers, a beloved classic, or any number of forgotten gems.
Carl Mcginnis
Great.Old,out of print books.Leather bound retro primtings of the classics
I bought "Robinson Crusoe"(Daniel Defoe)and "Two Years Before The Mast"(Richard Henery Dana),and an early paper back printing of "The Dharma Bums"(Jack Kerouac).
Asia Glijer
Great place with a nice book selection. Apart from having nice books it's very picturesque :)
Spolum Family
Floors and floors of wonder!
Susan Treat
Fabulous store filled with treasures! Each room was filled with books and nooks. I could spend hours here!
Lauren Caylor
Very fair prices on incredible books in a beautiful historic building. Can't beat it!
Kristen Fredriksen
Unique bookstore that is just fun to wander around in. Great signage pointing to the topics you want!
Tiffany Marron
I get lost here for hours! There is something for everyone here. Even if you don't go purchase anything, the books are reasonably priced though, you'll enjoy your time here immensely.
L m
Really enjoyed looking around, very diverse collections of old used books. Only wish they had a fantasy section.
Ryan
A little expensive for a used book store, but an interesting place to look around
Phil Damon
Special bookstore.
Above average.
Well worth a visit.
Elisa Goldman
Im a school librarian, and this has been on my Bucket list for a long time.. This is an awesome place. It's literally a barn from possibly the 1700s with little nooks, neat brickwork and 4 floors of almost entirely non-fiction books in all different non-sensical size rooms. The entry is what I think must have been like walking into a bookstore in 1800 with an old gent minding the store with a wooden counter and antique books lining the walls. It's like walking into a movie set. Amazing. My only gripe is that the prices are extraordinarily high for used books, even newer or "every-day" kind of books. It's in Chaddsford, so that is a very old money and expensive
area. Please be aware that this barn is not handicapped accessible. I have bad knees, so getting up and down the narrow and steep Wooden stairs was tough, but I was determined!
Amanda Hubbard
Wow, wow, wow! Book lovers this is a must stop! 5 floors of books! All genres and titles. I could have spent hours in there and a lot more money. The managers where beyond nice and helpful. The kids loved exploring every nook and cranny. We are so glad we stopped and wished it was closer to our home!
Colleen Hudson
Baldwin's Book Barn is the kind of place book lovers dream about. The front room/office is stocked with rare books and heated in winter with a delightful wood stove, there are cats about in unexpected places, and every subsequent room and floor yields happy surprises. On two separate occasions I visited with a particular out of print book in mind, and found both of them! (Reasonably priced, too.) Thank goodness they continue to be open during these challenging times. It's a bit of a hike for me to get there, but it's always worth the trip!
Matthew Farabee
Great selection, cool place to even just go look around.
Marcia Case
Huge selection of used books at great prices. The place is filled with nooks and crannies. It makes you want to find a chair to sit down and read. There are hidden rooms around every corner. The floors creak. The stairways are steep and narrow. By all means watch your head! Perfect setting for a work of fiction.
Lammergeier350
"Unique" does not even begin to describe this place. A labyrinthine barn with books packing every available nook and cranny, well organized, with sections ranging from gardening to history to automotive. The prices are a touch high, but the experience makes it well worth the trip.
Jake Layman
Great bookstore that dates back before WWII, I believe. Remarkable selection of books for reasonable prices. The only short coming is that their science fiction selection is very weak, which is what I collect. However, if you love nonfiction or traditional fiction, it is hard to beat this place.
Julia Gorczyca
First time at this place 7/3/2021. Well organized & very clean, no musty or moldy smell anywhere! Fred & the other person working there were friendly, helpful, made sure I knew what was on each floor. My suggestion: start at the top and work your way down. Books are heavy! I cannot wait to go again!
Elia Claros
One of the most unique bookstores I've ever been to! Definitely worth a visit at least once! Used books and really interesting finds!
Will Minster
This may be a wonder of the world! Every book you could ever imagine, 1,000’s over four floors. You have to go and experience this. It’s a bucket list adventure
Chris Trimble
BOOKS! So many books! Every genre, and from what I could tell almost every time period. You could seriously get lost in there for hours, well as long as you're under 6ish feet tall. It's an old barn with 4 (yes FOUR) floors of books, it's just a little cramped with that old library "stacks" feel to it. Score one for the average heighted! It's very organized, they even give you a map of the place so you don't get lost. Oh, and the smell. THE SMELL. It's the perfect combination of old slightly smokey wood, old book glue, and slightly musty old paper. Yankee needs to get on that as their next candle. I'm going back next paycheck to spend an irrational amount on old books I'll end up only reading half of.
Evelyn Hudson
Such a cool place! Can't wait to go back.
Alex S
Please try to find a better antique or old bookstore than this one.
Ray Miller
Enchanting book store! I've been going there for many years. Plenty of interesting books.
shabbyfoofoo yay
Highly recommend! Quaint, charming, historic, simply a gem.
We met people who stayed at the nearby bed and breakfast and made this + Longwood gardens (nearby) a day trip.
Big selection and beautiful to walk around in. Everyone was incredibly friendly.
Alison Kreutzer
You've probably driven past it a million times -make it your destination, you won't be sorry! I never even read books, I went in hopes that they still had cats inside (they don't), but I can stay for hours! It twists & turns with 4 levels of books & what feels like secret rooms! There is a genre for Anyone, but the old architecture & curiosity factor alone are reason enough to go! Kids will love it too! Prices are low (look for it penciled on the 1st page inside).
Laura Brace
Great place to visit for old & a lot of early edition used books. Although it's four floors of books, it's very well organized. The staff are very helpful and one could find themselves spending hours looking through the incredible selection of books especially if looking for history, travel or literature books.
M Walters
We came here while on vacation and I loved it so much!! I'm a book lover and like some more obscure topics and the books are really inexpensively priced. I got a giant reference book for $10. Theres also a lot of collectables (they are more expensive) so if that's your thing they gotcha.
January Danubio
As the other reviewers have said, this bookstore is vast and wonderful. But you can hardly get a sense of just how fantastic it is by reading reviews. (Seriously, get in your car right now and go!) They have very old books and a few new books, and everything in between. If you’re looking for bestsellers, try Barnes and Noble. If, however, you want a book you’ve never heard of but can’t imagine how you’ve ever lived without, this is the place for you. You can flip through books with covers worn smooth by curious fingers and immerse yourself in varied sections like “books about books,” and “critical reviews of literature.” If you plan on visiting during the cold months, bring layers you can add as you climb to the top. Each level gets colder and you’ll need mittens on the top floor. This is in no way a negative aspect. Just be prepared.
Andrea Grlica
Very interesting. Loads of books. Loved the building!
Cindy Zins
Another find on an afternoon jaunt. Whether you're fond of old barns, architecture, books, or all of the above, this is the place!! 4 floors of gently used books. Incredible! Plan on spending some time and buying a few books.
Sherie T
This place is absolutely amazing. The quality and quantity of these books are outstanding. You will not walk out without purchasing a book or a few. A great experience and a must-go!
Ryan Mastrangelo
A must stop for used book store lovers. Seriously. Its an old barn with four floors jammed full of books. Shelves everywhere, nevertheless, pretty well organized. I find something interesting every time I go. One of my favorite local shops.
David S
What an absolutely intriguing place to spend a couple hours browsing through books, of which many are quite old. It's a very old building that was originally a dairy farm house built in the early 1800's, and it was converted into a book store run by the same family since 1946. If you love books and old buildings, you will love a visit here. Five floors of books, and quite a collection of newer books, too. Just a really cool place.
Bill Cummins
Wide selection of books in a very interesting venue. The barn itself as well as how the books are displayed was very interesting. Appeared to have some hard to find titles. A bit on the pricey side but probably worth it to those who can't find a particular title. I enjoyed my visit and bought several books.
Kiralyn Foss
A huge variety of books, one could easily spend an afternoon here. Five floors of books all within an old barn, from leather bound through an entire section of fiction, and it's hard to find a nonfiction topic not covered.
I definitely suggest leaving about an hour and a half to two hours to peruse the floors. They have maps on a counter straight ahead when you walk in, and also helpful signs near the stairs of each floor that list what is on it.
Patrick McKenna
An absolute jewel of a book store in Chester County. Spent almost two hours there today pouring over five floors of books and treasures. The owner was super helpful and attentive. Cannot recommend more highly.
Jackie Neuman
This was my first visit to this most unusual bookstore. They have a huge collection of books that fill every nook and cranny of this old barn. It can be overwhelming as you search through the shelves. They have 4 levels and each level is made up of several rooms. Be prepared for spending some time strolling around and searching. Also, take note that since this is a barn, it is a good idea to go on a day when the temperatures aren't too hot outside.
Don Childress
Great time had by all. A lot of Books!
Tisha Mitchell
This book store does not deserve 5-stars. It deserves 10. Never in my life could I imagine a better bookstore. Phenomenal. Huge. So well organized. Every aisle has a seat to encourage sitting down to figure out what books you would like to purchase. It is Bittersweet but the cats no longer reside there. They have all been adopted to wonderful loving homes. But I still miss them.
Andrew Englar
This is an incredible find. Huge selection of out of print books. There are many different categories. Just when you think you've seen all the rooms, you discover there's yet another floor to climb and reveal even more books. The building feels like being inside an old castle. Much to discover, come and check it out for yourself!
Joseph Rizzo
This place is amazing, everything a book lover could want. You are perhaps a little overwhelmed by just how much they have, 4 floors of books! Old, antiquarian, rare, used, classic, kids, everything. I didn't end up getting anything on my first visit, I only had about 45 minutes to absorb it all. Hopefully I will get a few on round 2.
kristal hill
our family loved this historic book barn and always finds a few cherished books. the wood stove, love it! the scent of wood burning and the old books is perfect. staff if perfect.
Christy Recke
BEST place on the planet. Huge variety of books, beautiful aromas of old books and smoke greet you in the warm inviting space of the lobby area where the old wood stove resides. Shelves and shelves of wonder, easy place to get lost in and find comfort if you love books. It is alive and I hope it lives forever.
Gary Allen Vollink
Huge. Books on anything and everything. New, but tons and tons of old books, too. Happened across a manual for a 1979 Cessna today in the aviation section. Great place to browse.
Jean Bigger
Loved our visit to this amazing bookstore! 💞 …
Emily Hromada
This is such a cool place. We stayed for a while just wandering the floors. The mixture of old and new books is so different and I loved it. I thought the books were decently priced. Will definitely be back to wander around again.
Karen Mitchell
Unique used and rare bookstore in a barn built in the 1700's. Book lovers can get lost in the stacks.
Sasha Olivia Moon
I couldn't be happier with this place. 4 floors of pure joy. It's quiet and prices are great. The staff is very nice. This place is paradise for all kinds of book lovers. (anne rice is in mystery for anyone looking)
Melissa
Such a magical place for a book lover - you'll see books from the late 1800s stacked in with books from this past year. Prices are super reasonable, staff is really nice, and I enjoy getting lost in here for hours on end. Plenty of chairs set up for reading, so there's no pushy sales people telling you to get along. It can get pretty chilly on the upper levels in the winter, and there are a few shop cats (in case you're allergic, pack the benadryl). But really, all that just enhances the charm of this book shop, and I hope they're around for many years to come!
Alliecatt Lopez (Alliecatt)
If you are a person like myself who loves to read, & love the colonial times. This place is for you. They have over 20,000 books, & the store is located in a barn /house built on the late 1700's, early 1800's. It is 4 stories high. They actually have extremely old books, that they rent out to major movie companies for background use. I was told last weekend, they just got back a set of books for a Nicole Kitman movie that's being released next month. You won't be disappointed. They have every author possible.
Nancy J
One of my favorite places to visit in WC. You never know what gems you will find on the shelves. Could spend hours here - and probably have! If you're ever in the area, definitely plan a visit!
Christopher Snook (Chris)
If you love books and you are trying to find something you may have been struggling to come by before, this might be the place that has it. It's 4 floors of books all over. It's really something to see as the bookstore has been designed into the old barn and hasn't taken away the charm of the old building.
Barb Snyder
If you love books, you MUST go there. I can spend an entire day by myself just browsing, You get the coolest feeling while inside the barn. A feeling that you are never alone, but it is a warm friendly feeling. I have always found the prices to be reasonable also. A must stop when you are in the Philadephia area.
Chris Thompson
This place was awesome! The smell of the fireplace and all of the old books smelled great! The wide selection across a variety of genres and subjects was really cool to see!
Linda Christensen
Love this place. I prefer to buy used before I buy new. I always find something interesting and new to me. I'm not local but I plan a stop whenever I'm in the area. Knowledgeable and friendly book sellers.
Matthias Arran
Always, and I mean ALWAYS stop by. This shop has had its struggles over the years due to low patronage which is a travesty! There is an abundance of reading material from all different genres as well as for all different reading levels. I regularly spen $100+ for myself and friends when I visit.
Morgan
Baldwin’s is heaven for book lovers. There isn’t a place like it, and their collection of used books is hard to beat.
Because it is literally inside a barn, I would suggest wearing your coat if it’s cold outside; the heat doesn’t distribute particularly well inside the huge space.
I spent most of my time around the poetry and religion sections and enjoyed perusing.
david bohannon
I believe there is something for everyone at this place, bring a lunch cause it's going to take all day to see all the selections available. Always fun to swing by and browse !
Emily Manns
This place is really special, and a must visit for all book lovers! The book selection is endless, and it's such a gorgeous historic location. They even had a section of old year books, and I had fun trying to find my Dad's college yearbook! You will not get an experience like this at any other book store!
Donovan Maguigan
Amazing used bookstore with a very unique feel and design. Snake your way through 4 floors of books to where you are guaranteed to find something that you are looking for (or maybe something that you aren't). It's also nicely away from the noise and congestion of everything in SE Pennsylvania. Books are also of good quality and condition.
Chris Austin
This is by far my favorite place to be. There's such history contained within these walls. It's an antique book lovers paradise. The people running it have such a passion for their craft and for seeing history passed on in the form of these books. They're amazing people. No matter what you're looking for - ask and either they'll have it or probably know where to find it.
Jean Sp
The store probably carries what you're looking for, but it's so strangely laid out and so oddly organized that you may not be able to find it. It's huge, covers many floors, and lots of twisty corridors. But if you go just for fun and are willing to take some time to explore its nooks and crannies you'll be sure to find something you really want to read, even if you've never heard of the author before.
Absolutely worth the trip, but be prepared to be confused.
Nicole D
Massive collection of really old books. Also typical used bookstore fare. It is a maze in there, four stories of books. Bathroom was spotless, and the proprietor didn't mind several children poking around. Lots of chairs to sit and read in. Wear your coat of it is winter.
Michael Churgel
What a great place! If you like books you have to come here. Stories and stories of book-a-licious-ness! My son was confused because "barns are supposed to be on farms." So call it a book farm! Well organized and mapped out. Has a bit of everything. A must see just to see.
11longstreet
Lots of fun to visit! Easy parking and very accommodating staff.
Floor after floor of books. So much fun casually strolling the shelves. Just an fyi though, this isnt a bargan bin or yard sale prices-more like market value.
Either way, it made for a lovely Sunday afternoon for myself and my wife. Plus I got some early Christmas present shopping done, too.
Kandie Stecher
Love the Barn. You can find a variety of publications.
Lizzie H
Best little bookstore I've ever seen.
Margie Dodson
Love this place! Nice just to be in a homey, not big box store, with wood burning in the pot belly stove, surrounded by real books! Great selection of cookbooks!
Jon Lauro
I went here looking to kill time and browse some books. What a unique place to find used books and possibly some funny books as well! The variety here is really wonderful and the actual building is beautiful. Come here if you want to have fun browsing books and maybe to purchase some gems!
Suburbiasoverture
It's really cold upstairs and some of the floor is kinda soggy lol but I loved it . Interesting collection of antique books
Paulette Paglia
This is such a special place. I came often when I used to live in the area. It really is a magical place. As a teen-ager and college student it was a magical experience. Perhaps even mystical. 20 years later it still very much is a place of magic and wonder.
So many rare books, vintage maps and art prints - along with new publications in a historic charming old barn. One can easily spend thousands of hours. I wish I could give thousands of dollars. I heard they'll be closing soon. I did not have the heart to ask. I just hope the new owner has the heart and soul of the Baldwin family. And will be a good steward of this precious treasure.
Please visit! The antique and rare children's book section alone is worth it. For history and military buffs Baldwin's Book Barn is a definite must. Prices are reasonable and the selection is wonderful.
The owners are very interesting kind folks. I wish them the very best and thank them for creating such a beautiful bookstore and being a main reason for my having a deep love and appreciation for books.
Deborah Gonce
Awesome book store , rare books and other books available for sale as well as games , novelty items . Very well organized according to subject matter.
Ayshi B
Baldwin’s Book Barn is one of my favorite places in the world. I love second hand book stores where I can find books that have a story outside of its own written pages and this is easily the place for that. It has such a beautiful charm and a sweet kitty roaming around. Incredibly quaint with such an expansive selection.
Barbara Buck

Very comprehensive used book store. They have everything. Nicely organized. Maps help you find what your interested in. Tip: take a headlamp for easier reading darker areas.
Tamara Naftal
My husband and I love bookshops.Today was a delight for us. I was overwhelmed with the number of books. Every topic imaginable. We came away with a solitaire chess book , cookbook and military book! I sat and read from volumes of "The Confederate Veteran" which was a newspaper reporting during the Civil War. I read about spies and hangings and which soldiers were honored. My recommendations are if visiting in winter as we did, dress over warm if you plan on sitting and reading, They could make a killing if they sold hot chocolate and rented warm blankets to drape as you sit reading! I look forward to a spring visit when the doors I expect will be swung wide open and the warmth breezes thru the barns corridors. Maybe pack a picnic lunch too. Make a point to visit one day to explore.
Justin Casteel
Fantastic place! You never know what you'll find, and every time you go back you find something you can't live without! Been going for years and will continue to visit and recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
Rachel Bromley
This book barn has many floors full of tons of different types of old books. I visited a little over a month ago and it was cool to go through all the rooms and see the different books. Very organized place as well.👍 …
Dave Thomson

Lovely old barn with 4 floors of books both old and new. A small children's/teen book area. All genre of books from history, military, mystery, biography, etc. Watch your head!!

Great place Defined that book that you’ve been looking for- floor after floor after floor and room after room after room.
Rose Parise
So much to see. 4 floors of books!
Adena Magloire
This place has been here since the 1940's. It's a West Chester landmark. They have many out of print old books. It's best if u know what your looking for. I got 5 children's and teens books for 26$
Tony Venne
Four floors of used books arranged by subject in different areas of the barn. Classic used book store near West Chester. Lots of books on local interest and histories. A good stop for lovers of these places and historical vernacular structures.
Nikko Ong
Lovely place, there are 5 stories (rickety ones mind you) of old books and new books on every subject from american history to urban development to biographies to naval warfare. The doors are relatively short, which means some might need to duck. This is the kind of place that you'll want to budget several hours for because theres a book or a section for everyone. Great prices too, listed on the inside covers- most books will be less than 10 dollars!
Joshua Weber
Despite the crowds on a weekend and many head bumping hazards, this place is huge and offers a massive variety of books from every category. Reccomend going here. Peices are a little higher than others.
Janette Entrikin
Baldwin's is a booklover's dream. I could literally spend days browsing! Wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. Highly recommended! Bonus discovery: I learned that one of my Entrikin ancestors helped build the barn in the early 1800s. It's truly a treasure trove!
Chrissy The Weeb
I loved it!! It was so cool!! So many cool books!!
Tom Walsh
Cool spot and nice owners. Tons and tons of cool books! I believe some are very rare. If you like to read and collect books, then I highly recommend this place.
V N
Oh yeah, baby! A used book store in a uses dairy barn = some truly great browsing in your not-so-typical selection. You really feel like you've give back in time to find books you would probably not have run across at your Edward McKay.
I found a business start up book that been out of print for 35 years, and is totally beyond anything available today.
Ally Ciesinski
An amazingly beautiful place with books and books and more books. Five floors to be exact. Or maybe six? Who knows the books just keep going and keep going. Nice guy that owns it as well. I got a sociology text book for nine dollars
Ross Kennedy
Have a few hours to lose yourself in awesome assortment of books among five floors of a wooden barn? You must go here. You will leave with a book and feel very relaxed
John Kolb
This is a (maybe) hidden gem if a book store.
So much to see if you are looking for used and older books, including some occasional signed and first editions.
Ashley Nandi

Carla Griffin
Books books and more books you can get lost in this old house full of books. Just floors and floors of books of all varieties. Lots of nooks and crannies to sit and read in. Wonderful little out of the way place.
Mike Culbert
One of the best bookstores I've ever experienced. The building smells and feels like walking in to a book haven.
Justin May
Very nice and quiet place, very nice people that run the show as well. Huge bookstore and its also fun to explore, they've got maps for you to find what you are looking for.
Jo Ann Beck
Great place for used and antique books. Prices are good. Love the atmosphere as you really in a barn!
Judy Folkenberg
What a delightful place. Time flies by as you get lost in all the nooks and crannies looking over the books--some of which are shelved in teetering orange crates. Its four stories of sheer bliss. "Bingo," the black kitty, presides over it all, keeping the barn mouse-free (mice like to eat the pages of books). He follows in the grand tradition of monastic scriptoriums, where monks often kept cats to rid the place of paper-eating mice.
friargreg75
A great book place just outside West Chester University. Tons of rare and current books in an old historic barn. Lots of fun.
Mel perkins
This is an adventure. Free up 3 or 4 hours. The books go on forever. I found some real treasures. The prices were very good.
Bill Batdorf
This is a barn full of books. Lots of local history, non fiction, and history. Very light on mystery, sci fi, and fantasy.
Erika
Easy place to accidentally stay for 3 or 4 hours just looking through all 4 floors of books from floor to ceiling. Truly a bookworm's dream!
Chris Shockey
The organization leaves much to be desired. An impressive collection, but finding anything specific is a nightmare. I lucked out finding something for my collection. I didn't see a price right away, do I asked and was told that nothing was cover price and I could find the price on the first white page. I looked. He was right. It wasn't cover price. It was HIGHER. For a volume that's not out of print. That's unacceptable.
Hakson Yoon
This place always gives me lots of nostalgic emotions since 2005 by old books, cds, and antique pieces, highly recommend to visit everyone 😊 …
Kevin Loftus
Awesome place for odd and obscure books at great prices. Most books are used but there are new ones throughout as well. However all are in pristine condition.
A great place for a hunting adventure!

Patrick Durek
A delightful and historic place--a book barn since the '40s. Thousands of books--many out of print and hard to find. Reasonable prices. If you're in the area, be sure to make a stop.

This place has books on books on books. The whole barn is filled with books from floor to ceiling with four floors. There are books for anything you can imagine. A very unique place.

Derek Brenneman
Great place to find old and used books! Beautiful 4 story barn full of nooks and rooms. Great place to explore on a rainy day!

Crazy amount of used books on multiple floors, well categorized. Many are decades old, like a 1990s guide on how to use the internet. Also, there's no heat so in the winter come well layered.
Roy North

Eric Hart (Eric)
Amazing bookstore! It is huge, multi level and organized quite well. The place is historic and gorgeous and the book selection is vast.
Frank Muth
What's not to love? Bookstore in a 1821 barn, with four floors of books. It's called "the Powell's of the Easr" for good reason, and I've been to Powell's.
Gabriel Ross-Nash
A stunner. I can't believe a bookstore like this exists in Chester County (or anywhere outside of NYC for that matter). Like stepping into a time machine and landing in mid-century Brandywine. Walking the stacks you can suspend disbelief and escape to a pre-amazon, pre-iPhone, pre-internet era - a faraway time when print culture reigned supreme.
Michael Harris
Amazing as always
Kirk Trate
This is a special place. Take some time and visit during the holiday season and pick up a book or two. The visit alone is worth your time, finding a treasure or two will make it time we’ll spent.
