Reviews of [words] Bookstore
Cindy Chiu
Best local independent bookstore! The staff have excellent recommendations and there is something for everyone. Love the convenient location right in the the middle of Maplewood village. They're open later than some of the other stores, so it's a great place to browse and pick up books and gifts while waiting for a table.

I was waiting outside with my dog while my mom was shopping inside, and she left me with a bottle of cava she just bought. I left it standing by my feet because I'm under 21, and after a few minutes my dog knocks it right over. It didn't break, but I saw it fizzle. Employees from Words walk outside to talk about the window display, and a few minutes later one of them walks back outside with a Words paper bag and packaging air pillows. He took the fallen bottle of cava and tucked it safely in a paper bag with the air pillows for me. I didn't ask him to or anything. Wonderful worker.

A solid community bookstore in the heart of Maplewood. All new books, but the selection was decent. Graphic novel section was OK, but not extensive. It appears to be children friendly with a children's section taking up quite a bit of the real estate. Worth a stop if you are in Maplewood. As of this visit they still had a mask requirement prior to entry.
Bob Donahue
Excellently curated selection of books, stationary and gifts, also- lovely staff!
Dayle Gibson
I called into Words twice today looking for a very special book for my fiancés birthday. I am blown away by the service, professionalism and help that I received. Though I was unable to purchase this book from your store, as it turns out it is out of print until next year, your staff graciously put me in the right direction and I was able to purchase not only the book in question, but a signed copy! Your staff deserves a huge round of applause and my huge thanks! I have purchased from your shop on several occasions, and you will continue to be my first stop from now on. Thank you for your dedication to small book stores all around the US. We are lucky to have a shop like yours in our little Maplewood.

Great service and lovely little spot in Maplewood. Really nice to be able to support an independent bookstore. I ordered a book that was not in stock for curbside pickup and it arrived and was ready faster than expected.
Adriana Freixa
True gem in Maplewood. Amazing books and gifts. The staff is always friendly and accomodating.
Claudia Ocello
Wonderful staff! They'll order just about anything for you. During the pandemic you can order online and pick up outside. Encourage you to shop here versus a large online retailer - keep the independent bookstores in business!

There is just tooo many things to say about this bookstore. Its very organized from a little readers reading section to historical to cooking to fiction to comics etc. The workers are very helpful in helping you find what you're looking for. And if they are out of stock, they'll immediately place an order and take your number to call you when it comes. Go to this place every year for my children's summer reading books or if they just want new books. ❤😁
Hello Woww
I just go out and I was blown away it was the best library I ever went to I bought the complete series of Percy Jackson

Very well stocked bookshop with knowledgeable and professional staff. Attended an excellent lecture and book signing for "Battered" by Galit Gottlieb. Well organized and informative. The author is lovely and even baked her own cupcakes for sampling. Buy the book!!!
Thank you all for a wonderful afternoon event.

Great local bookstore with a pretty decent selection for it's size. Fiction, non fiction, and kids are most of the shelves so maybe not the best if you're a sci-fi lover. Really interacts with the community and always has events. Because it's just a local shop be prepared to spend a little more, but I'd say it's worth it.

Very cute, local and independently run bookstore in downtown Maplewood. Street parking and numbered parking in the town lot. Parking free on the evenings.

[words] Bookstore is everything you could wish for in an independent book shop. The staff are friendly and knowledgable, the selection is diverse, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. In addition to best sellers and adult-contemporary titles, they have (among others) great children's, young adult, biography, and special interest sections. Tremendous supporters of the autism community as well, [words] Bookstore happily employs those who are on the spectrum, enabling them to learn valuable life skills while working in a fulfilling and supportive environment.

Great neighborhood book store. Have some unique items not found in big box stores. Services are friendly and knowledgeable. Occasionally have special events such as author signing/reading so look for them.
Jessica
Maplewood's beloved bookstore, this neat and tidy shop is packed with an incredible selection of books for all tastes and ages. The children's section is large and well laid out so that each age and ability is easily found, with plenty of small gifts and creative play options as well if you need a gift pairing. The store holds frequent author events and more, both for adults and children, and their are always enough staff so that you are not waiting to be helped. You might get lost in here, but you won't mind at all.

One of the best local book stores anywhere. If they don't have something you want they can get it in a couple days...no charge. Great staff, informed. Author events. Long hours too...always seem to be open. Really good childrens section.
Eileen Campos
Who doesn't love an independent bookstore? A warm welcome space that smells like new paper. They are happy to order anything that they don't have in stock and it comes in pretty quickly.
Gregory Burrus
WORDSs bookstore is one of those places that as soon as you enter you feel like they are about books like they did in then old days. The atmosphere is really friendly and warm and the owners and staff are extremely helpful. What I really like is the fact they bring n authors from all walks of life and they cover a wide range of subjects. I was there and saw Joetta Clark Digs and it was a really great book review event by the author and what was nice was the owner was right there participating. I recommend it because it is truly a bookstore that you will enjoy.

Cute indie bookstore with a few locations. Maplewood is on the smaller side, but I found interesting Nigerian literature, for example, that would never be at Barnes and Noble (which wouldn't have any African stuff other than Things Fall Apart - it's a whole continent - there's more than one book!). Outside of Manhattan, choices are limited for indie bookstores, but this one is pretty good. On par with Watchung Booksellers in Montclair, which is my favorite.
Sadie Springer
The best small town bookstore. Words features a wide array of genres, authors, and crafts. Words is prefect for kids, teens, and adults, Maplewood wouldn't be the same without it.
Erik Yates
Such a well-curated collection here. Every shelf had something interesting. It would be easy to spend hours here. If you have children, this is also a fantastic place to spend some time either before or after a short walk to Able Baker!
Stephanie Volin
This is my son's favorite place to go second only to ice cream next door. This was our friday night for a long time: dinner, ice cream, book store. Great kids section and helpful staff. well organized.
Zachary Humerick
My wife loves this place. I don't live 5 mins away anymore, but we still come down from time to time just to go here.
Good selection of books, and very easy to order books if they don't have it as well.
Evan Brody
Good bookstore. A real bookstore where you can still browse! Helpful, friendly staff. They also host various authors throughout the month, including those of children's books. Located conveniently in downtown Maplewood.

I go here many times to get a book for myself. They always have a selection of many books. My only complaint is that the books can be a bit pricey but to be honest compared to other book stores it's not pricey.
Piero Basso (AIC)

Words Bookstore is the beating heart of Maplewood. I cannot say enough good things about it. The selection is wonderful, the people are wonderful, and the events are worth your time.
Nicole Harmon
It is a small bookstore that appears to carry a variety of oops in a walkable neighborhood. You could make a day out of going to the bookstore. But he careful due to parking woes you may experience.

Nice to have a cute bookstore but hard to go there with kids because it's crowded with toys and no changing table in the bathroom.
Patrick Maffei
Whoever left a bad review about a rude employee answering the phone I cannot believe that I called asking about a book light and couldn't have had a more helpful employee taking the time 2 tell me what they had as choices.
Karen Botkin
Live an independent bookstore. Lots of "off the beaten path" books as well as best- sellers. I intend to go back, even though I'm from out of town.
