Reviews of Tubby & Coo's Mid-City Book Shop
Patrick Driscoll
I love this Place! A few months ago I was in San Diego at an science fiction themed bookstore. The whole time I was there I kept thinking, "too bad we don't have something like this in New Orleans". But while Driving through mid city the other day I remembered that yes, yes we do have a store for the science fiction diehards!
So, if sci-fi and fantasy is your thing, this place has everything you'd ever want. Easily the best SF selection in the city. Books are organized in a meticulous way by micro genre. I love it!
Naomi
My absolute favorite bookstore anywhere. Incredible service, incredible mission, fabulous selection. Their commitment to equity and being a safe space is only one of many reasons why I love supporting T&C's.
They go out of their way to be awesome, and they have excellent recommendations!

Quaint bookstore! Love the new location. Owners are chill. Good prices, too. A li'l difficult to find though off of the railroad tracks and cemeteries.

I was looking for a book that I could only seem to find online through Amazon, but I was able to order the same book from Tubby & Coo's for basically the same price. So happy that I got support a local books for instead! And good to know that they can get books for you even if they don't already have them in stock.
Their new space would have been tricky to find without instructions from them, but now that I know where it is I look forward to going back when they are fully open after the pandemic!
(If you're facing the new building from the street, go around to the right side parking lot, you'll see their sign on the parking lot gate, and if you keep going around the side you'll be able to see the new entrance).

My favorite bookshop in New Orleans. Everything an independent bookstore should be: quirky, great service, and rooted in the community. The owner learns your tastes and gives great recommendations - I’ve discovered so many great books because of her suggestions.

Heard about the place from The Week in Geek radio show. Went in looking for Tea from the Veridion Tea Co, also recommended by Week in Geek. Very cool book store with very polite and helpful employees. Originally went in for the tea and after talking to employees found a couple new books to add to my collection. It's a small book store but they make up for it with the personal attention from the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Nice selection of books (mostly sci fi) and some local authors, with a kids' nook and board game room upstairs. They also carry a selection of games and geeky accessories (tees and toys) and tasty tea blends. Potter fans in particular will love the staircase decor.
Wick P (Wick)
Cool place. Bigger selection of books than I would have thought. A very nice upstairs with a lot of kids books. Very laid back almost hipster joint. It's worth checking out before heading out of the city they go to a big box book store

A wonderful local bookstore. The proprietor was very gracious, helping me find just what I wanted. The inventory is primarily a niche genre, but there was an impressive variety of books, including those of local writers and local interest. My only regret is that I hadn't found it sooner!

I loved Tubby & Coo's! The selection is really limited because a lot of space is reserved for games, toys, gifts, meeting spaces, etc, but, that being said, I did find the exact book on New Orleans history I was looking for. It's well-organized, clean, bright, with lots of fun references to sci-fi and fantasy series on the walls (and stairs, and doors..). I'd love to be able to attend some of the events; I bet they are so fun! (Harry Potter birthday party should be coming up soon!) also, shout out to the owner who answered all my mom's ridiculous & personal questions in a very friendly & kind manner.

This is one of my favorite bookstores! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they are incredibly helpful with ordering books for you. If you want some great recommendations and some fantastic books, this is the place!
Autumn Montgomery
Cute little book shop that sells Sci-Fi and fantasy exclusively. They also carry merchandise within the same genres. They offer several book clubs and geek culture events. A nice niche community with a super friendly owner.
M M
Great local bookstore with lots of events geared toward Potterheads, budding writers and sci-fi/fantasy lovers. Killer costume parties where dogs are also invited. Centrally located, easily accessible by streetcar or bus. Parking can be an issue with no designated spots or lot.
Mike Stoller
Small independent bookstore with a carefully curated collection, including local authors and local flavor.
J. Benefield
The shop is miniscule but still manages to have an alright assortment of books. Do not expect a large assortment of board games though.
You can tell the owners are passionate book lovers and are on their way to having a great shop.
Tessa Howe
Best place for Sci-fi and Fantasy novels and board games in town. They have a huge library of games to rent or play at the weekly board game nights. Extremely welcoming and friendly.
Sean Rollins
Really liked the atmosphere of this bookstore. It's in one half of an old house on Carrollton Street in New Orleans, LA. Loved the look of the place. Recommended for anyone to stop in and look around.
David Watt
Great local bookstore with an awesome collections of Sci-fi and Fantasy and boardgames. The staff here is great as well! Shop local!
Jerry Lenaz
Friendly, independent owned bookstore focusing on the Sci Fi and Fantasy genre. Right near coffee shop, close to City Park and on streetcar line.
Unique Lee
Great environment, friendly staff, but sadly small selection of children's books (though what was available was diverse!)
Bill Tice
Great space, great stock, great location, great staff. Many excellent events here including game nights and writing classes. We're very lucky to have them.
Chris McCrory
It’s a great place to find both bestsellers and local authors, and the owner is more than happy to chat about the books and give recommendations
James
A cozy bookstore whose only drawback is it's incredibly limited selection. Mostly popular fiction here, not much else.
Mark Lind
If you like books and table top games, check this place out! Also 250 games for RENT at $1 a day!
Caylie Sadin
Fabulous selection of books! And the owner is very helpful and really knows books!
