Reviews of Frenchmen Art and Books
Relii Cabrales
Beautiful book store on Frenchman. The set up was beautifully decorated and they had all sorts of art and books, specially on New Orleans.
Stephanie Sands
Cute, comfortable and charming little book store with a fair variety. I will definitely be back. They carry quite a few books from local authors which is fantastic. Also, they carry a variety of multi-lingual and foreign language children’s books- story and word books.
jessica Dampier
Quality selection of local specific books, many with political, social justice, or environmental focus. I wanted to get so many titles. The woman working was very friendly and helpful, and certainly didn't mind me browsing and taking my time. Nice little gem on Frenchman.

Amazon has no chance competing with a store like this.
Bookstores or not what you expect on Frenchmen Street and this store is definitely unexpected. I felt like I was back in the 1960s bookstore. We’re reading mattered. And customer service was a real thing. I met the owner who was sitting outside interviewing a new employee dressed in a southern beige suit and hat to match. We chatted for a while and then I went inside, and found a diverse mix of books ranging from, about New Orleans to Cajun cooking. I even found an Isaac Asimov novel.
The place was immaculate with attention to detail and Covid regulations that made sense including hand sanitizing etc.
All in all it was a great bookstore, and the next time I’m in New Orleans we will go back.
Thomas Raggam
I enjoyed my visit very much. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The store features a great selection of books by local authors and about New Orleans. There is also a queer section at the store.

Had a lovely time in this bookstore on Easter Sunday afternoon - the employee at the time was a lovely woman who was clearly passionate about books! We asked her for some recommendations and she helped us find some great books that we’re seriously enjoying. Some folks have reported feeling rushed here, but we didn’t have that experience at all, quite the opposite in fact.

Stopped by and was helped by Madeline. I love that they deliver books to your hotel; made it much easier to continue my day without lugging around the heavy book I purchased. I appreciated the text letting me know it was at the hotel lobby as well. Madeline gave me lots of recommendations for food for my next trip and was super friendly.

Great shop. They will deliver to your hotel for free, or even ship orders of $35 or more to your house. If you elect to ha e the books shipped to your home tax is omitted. Double bonus, don't carry your heavy books all over and save that sales tax.

Wonderful, unique, I wandered as a tired soul basking on the variety of genres. If you translate traditional New Orleans Jazz into a bookstore, this is it.

I had a pleasant experience here, and the woman and gentleman on staff were quite nice. I didn't realize it was near closing time, but they shut the door and dimmed the lights while I was browsing. I asked if they were closing soon and they said, "no, please take your time!" My husband popped in (he'd been finishing a drink outside) and hurried to tell me that according to the shop hours posted, they were in fact closing. It was clear the staff wanted to allow me to finish browsing. I asked for a recommendation of a New Orleans true-crime book, and at their suggestion picked up Empire of Sin, by Gary Krist. It's excellent! We also bought a small piece of art. We didn't feel uncomfortable at all.
It's also probably sensible to note that this shop is located on an incredibly busy, loud, rowdy, tourist-filled street. I don't think I'd blame anyone who works here for being easily annoyed by the general public!!
Rafaella Litvin
Well curated selection of books focusing on New Orleans and other topics. Great music too!

I’ve never seen a bookstore open after I’ve stopped at 2 bars for the night. I loooooove this place!
Amey Kulkarni
There was a nice lady who asked us about our choices, recommended books and was very hospitable. Loved the vibe of the store.
Alexis Hofmann
Great selection of books, especially about New Orleans. Ranged from classics and popular books to fun local information and stories. The owner was great to talk to and the art was beautiful. There was also a very cool Oscar Wilde poster.
Toby Clark-Pickens
I have never been so offended in a bookstore in my life. I am a New Orleans local who loves the selection of our local authors in this bookstore. I actually work nearby and send people there, but will not again. I was browsing around and an older gentleman, presumably the owner, asked me if I found what I was looking for. I responded that I was just browsing and didn't come in looking for anytjing in particular. He condescendinly explained where the library was and told me I could browse there all I wanted!! Wow! It just makes me angry that he was so rude and judgmental. I bought something I needed amyway, but I am not sure I will go back. I won't ever send anyone there again and will likely tell my friends how horribly I was spoken to in this bookstore. I only give 3 stars because they have a great selection of loval books. Service gets no stars.

I love this little nook in NOLA! My partner brought me here after they had first visited the bookstore back in 2011, which was before F.A.B’s renovations. My partner had such an amazing experience and found such a life enhancing book from here, which is the reason they had to bring me here today! Truly a gem. Great independent book store!
The owners and the book seller here are so kind, and I loved hearing their storing. I really appreciated how involved and caring these individuals were.

Stevie Saile
So great! Staff is wonderful, selection is wonderful. Great selection of academic and historical works in addition to coffee table books and fiction.

Have enjoyed being able to peruse the shelves in here since I was a teenager. I haven't been able to stop in as often as I'd have liked though. The eclectic/random find shelves in here are less numerous than they used to be, but are still a joy to pick through and an old favorite way to spend some free time.
Dominic Lee
Fantastic bookshop. Lots of interesting and left field books to choose from.
Danielle Carpenter
WONDERFUL little bookstore on Frenchmen St. They've got some real gems! We ran into a little SNAFU with delivery to the hotel...no fault of the owners, all fault to the hotel. When I called the bookstore from home (which is quite far from NOLA), the owner was so helpful! He conference called the hotel with me, was very direct in finding out what happened to my books, and made certain that the hotel would be shipping my books to me and that I would be able to get a tracking number. I would absolutely come back to visit next time I'm in NOLA.
Stephanie Suchecki
Honestly, I had a good interaction with the person working in the store. Not trying to discount anyone else’s experience. I found the books I wanted and the young woman who helped me, was very polite. 🤟🏻 …

As I sit here at the restaurant sipping my ice cold beer I just can’t help and ponder on how vividly warm i felt while at Frenchman book store!
David and Gretchen welcomed me and my friend with open arms and helped me with the most perfect book I knew I was likely to fine!
Please don’t look past this amazing shop that is owned by such big hearts!
Thank you guys! -A new friend (:

Talked to one of the employees who was very knowledgeable, kind, and just a fun person to talk to altogether and it made my experience a positive one. I left happy with a couple books and even more recommendations

What a wonderful bookshop. I felt it had a deep quality variety of books available. As a book worm this was my favorite undiscovered gem in NoLA.
Tina M
Great selection of books — especially loved the books promoting our freedoms and human rights. The owner was great to chat with — very friendly, and open to questioning the narrative.
Andrew Sarpolis
Visited as an out-of-towner. Owner was super helpful and had a great chat with him about some of the prints/records/books. Selection was so interesting I came back and bought more. I would highly recommend for those with interests in NOLA or current issues.
David Symons
Marvelous bookstore specializing in local and radical literature. The owners are lovely people with long and deep roots in the NOLA community. I'll always order from them before resorting to the world-eating monster Amazon.
Robin Blackburn
A great selection of books and goodies. It doesn't replace Maple Street Books but the selection of New Orleans-related books is pretty great.
Jordan Jacobs
Proud to see this business in my neighborhood, the marigny. Bookstores are an asset to any neighborhood and this one is no exception. I love stopping in here to just browse the shelves- a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Andy Cigars
Great little neighborhood store tucked into a lively little NOLA neighborhood. Plenty of essentials for quick eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner...and a massive selection of local craft beer, wine, liquor and mixing stuff. No need to pack all your booze for your trip...just buy it here. Friendly staff. This place was a lifesaver on our trip to the Big Easy.

FRENCHMAN D&G has always been my regular stop when working or partying in the French Quarter since I discovered the place after moving to New Orleans 14 years ago. The interior has changed over the years, but the store's approach to business has been consistent. Their prices are higher than convenience stores in other areas, but in comparison to the rates available in other shops in the French Quarter, they are in the lowest range. They provide a partial selection of convenience items like cigarettes, beer/water/soda/juice, candy, and snacks. The deli offers a good range of sandwiches in bun and po' boy form as well as a few other items like fries (with or without cheese). The deli style sandwiches like those with sliced meats are the best, especially when dressed. The stuff that they offer as a new orleans deli, like seafood po'boys are good, but not overly full or remarkable. But the quality is consistent, the staff are each great people with different personalities though all are professional with a friendly demeanor. The deli doesnt function it seems on Sunday, is the one somewhat understandable issue. Great go-to place in the French Quarter.
