Wonderful new and used book shop with two floors, a great selection, and a cat! Very large section of local books and works by artists in NOLA. The staff was friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I picked up some Hemingway today, but saw four or five other books that I’ll need to purchase next time I come. This is what bookstores should be (not big box stores) and Blue Cypress fits perfectly in a beautifully eclectic neighborhood.

I love that we have a used bookstore! I lived in another city for a short time that had a Half Price Books and I always wished we had something like it with a good selection There was a great collection of notable fiction including the classics and some wonderful local finds. I was looking for something specific which they didn’t have. The associate did order the book for me and have since ordered many new releases too. Also major plus is the bookstore cat! 😺

BEST 👏 BOOKSTORE 👏 EVER 👏 Constant haunt of ours when we lived in Nola and a guaranteed stop every time we visit. Worth every penny to still buy books from them and have them shipped! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable!! What more could you ask for?!

First time visiting with a friend. The moment that I walked into Blue Cypress Books I was excited immediately! The entire book store is covered in books. It may sound odd, but honestly every wall from top to bottom was a book shelf. That made this location extra cozy. Jazz music was playing with the room temperature perfected for a read on-site. Unfortunately there is no place to read. The book selection is massive and I especially loved the antique book area. Used books and new books from all genres. I wish I had gotten her name, but the sales clerk was outstanding and I even provided me with a suggestion when I asked one of her favorite books. I will definitely return soon!

Had an ok experience. Alarm kept going off and employee didn’t do anything. Another employee had to come from upstairs to address the issue. Wasn’t greeted upon walking in and had no idea about the different books available and where to locate them. Bought two books and upon checking out staff was friendly. Street parking where you have to pay with an app.

One of my favorite bookstores ever! The owner is such a kind person, and while they don't buy every book you might bring (because of course they still have to make money), I find that the value of store credit that you receive for the books you do sell back to them is well worth it. They have a great selection of new and used books on the shelves, and you can even find some cute and nerdy little gifts for the book-reader in your life. I won't go to a Barnes & Noble again so long as I live near Blue Cypress Books!

The store is stocked well and attractive. If you're looking for something more specialized, they can get it for you, used or new. And there are a couple of book clubs that meet there regularly. Plus Oak Street is delightfully full of other attractions...you can make it a full morning or afternoon in an authentic part of New Orleans.

I love the store, there are so many choices. You could lose yourself for hours. If you can't find what you're looking for they will help you find it. Nothing has changed in all the years that I have shopped here oh, except that they moved across the street and got even better. The friendliest staff you'll ever meet, full of recommendations and time to chat. Also about the most generous frequent reader program I've ever seen in a bookstore: free books in no time! And there's a cat. Nuff said.

A gem of a bookstore! If they don’t have a book in stock, they can usually order it for you. I email them when I think of a title I want, they send me a PayPal invoice, and then they hold the book for me until I make my way to the city. Staff are incredibly nice, and they make fabulous recommendations. Curbside pick up service is a huge plus! Only street parking is available, but I’ve never had a problem being able to score a spot right out front. They are covid-compliant: staff are always masked, patrons are masked, and sanitizer is available at the door. There are a couple restaurants and bakeries within walking distance if you need a place to sit and dig into your latest purchase.

Such a s cozy welcoming place to spend some zen time and pick up your next favorite book. There are some gems there and a staff-cat keeping your company as you walk around. The owner is extremely nice, usually giving you bonuses or discounts. Genres are clearly separated with more helpful notes posted helping you choose as well.

25 cent books daily outside. I've found at least 100 gems for only a quarter each over the last few years. Owner and staff are the nicest people and know pretty much if they have any book currently in stock. Quaint shop on quiet Oak St. Definitely check out the sci-fi and Local sections. All books are from donations or trade-ins. Oh. And there's a cat!

Both will earn you a raised eyebrow and a scowl.

Fantastic local bookstore. Mostly used. The owner elizabeth is a true book lover and an obsessive reader. The local section is especially strong. Religion section is solid too. Oak Street is one of the most interesting spots on earth. Blue Cypress is steps from Zotz, Glue, Live Oak Cafe, Oak, Jacquismos, Maple Leaf, Cowbell, Bread on Oak, Castellon's Drugs, Retro Active, Haas kids shoes.... countless great places to shop and eat.
