This is a very cool shop for anyone looking for a good deal on used books or new games. They have a great selection of RPG rule and adventure books and as well as other tabletop/board games. The basement is where the other books are located and I have found some incredibly rare stuff down there for fractions of what I would have had to pay online. The staff are friendly and helpful, they have themed discount days where you can roll a discount on some dice to save some money. All in all, a very cool place to stop in and look around when you get a chance. You can very easily walk out with a new book to read or game to play.

This place is awesome! They have lots of used and out of print books in their lower level. On the main floor they have a huge selection of tabletop games and miniatures to accessorize the games. They have one of the best selections of various gaming dice and props that I have found in the area. On the upper level they also have a gaming area that is open to the public! This is an area where gamers get together on a weekly basis and play their old favorites or try out their new purchases. The gentleman that was working when I went in there was super friendly, helpful, and very funny. This is definitely my first stop for gaming supplies!! 👍🤩

Like books? Like games? Get down to the Griffon. I've been shopping and gaming here since I was in high school--it's the perfect place to get something for that hard to shop for nerd in your life. Whenever I'm in South Bend, it doesn't feel like I'm truly home until I swing in, say hello, and pick up a few sets of dice.

Love all of the board and card games they provide, along with the books and game pieces. My favorite part is the dice section, and, even though i don't play d&d that much, i have quite the collection, all from this store. They also have an upstairs area for people to host games. All around, it's a nice place, and definitely worth the visit!

It is everything that you would expect and a very old book store, slash game store, slash odds and ends. There was an overwhelming assortment of games that most stores will never hold and they ALL looked quite inviting. You can get lost in this section but really once you go to the lower level, the dusty wonderful books are held here and the book lover will never want to leave again. I know I didn't want to go. 😉

Best game store in the area, period. The owners care passionately about their store and their customers. The layout is intimate but shockingly well stocked, and you will always find *something* you want here. That's not even getting into their extracurricular activities or the awesomeness of the underground book store. A rare and magnificent shop that everyone in the area should visit.

The prices were reasonable and the literature selection was good. I have to say that the rest of the genre options were a little odd, but I mostly go for the classic fiction books anyway, so that still worked out for me. Lots or board games and many other random things here. I can see why people enjoy this place. It was certainly one of the more unique book stores I have been to. I may not back but it will probably not be too soon as the selection was small enough that I had plenty of time to look through them all. I'm happy with my purchases and recommend this place!

Love the staff their selection is excellent. They even have some older more antiquated things that you won't normally find, while still also carrying the more trending games. I brought my kids in, and the cashier was very nice to them, offered them both suckers for free, which of course made my kids very happy.

An amazing selection of dungeons and dragons, and Pathfinder books, as well as miniatures. They have a large selection of war books down in their basement as well. All around it's a great game and book store. I have yet to try out their game room.

Cool local game store. Trading card, table top RPGs and viard games are all found here. The lower level is filled with discount books. The main floor is for display and sales with a lot of the usual suspects in play. The top floors are the play spaces, open fairly late on the weekends. The owners are great, friendly people. Knowledgeable in the gaming field and even host their own game Con. If gaming is your hobby, check it out. Operation hours for the main sales floor is a little early but if you have the time its worth the visit

Their collection is amazing, the building is quaint and adorable, and their prices are pretty reasonable. My spouse grew up in South Bend, and we visit here every time we have been back in town together. Their book collection is, of course, also amazing.

I've been going to the Griffon since the 80's, and it is as good as ever. The owners are great, and they have a great deal of knowledge on all kinds of games, from strategy to role playing and many more. I'm sure that some things sold at the Griffon can be found online, but once you visit, you'll find any online experience insufficient, and lacks what is truly provided by the Griffon - new and old games, people talking, the smell of old books, real pewter D&D figurines, a sense of history and mystery, and the experience of a place fueled by fun, which has occupied a special place in the heart of South Bend for decades. One visit and you'll be more than happy to drive for hours just to visit, as I often do.

This is the kind of shop you don't see in a small town like South Bend. I could save a few bucks buying my board games online, but I'd rather support this wonderful establishment and you should too.

The Griffon is the best game store in South Bend. The selection is large and we'll curated. They offer board games, RPGs, historic military models, dice, and more. They also have a used book section in the basement and new books on the first floor. There is having space on the uppers levels.

Griffon is the only place of it's kind downtown. They don't just sell books. Griffon is a shop that sells just about every rpg/strategy board game and card game you could imagine. Old and uncommon books, Plastic models, miniatures, historical war games, action fugures, records, dice, and some educational toys. They host game nights regularly and post the schedule on their website. And even provide game rooms at no charge if you want to have your own game night with friends. Just schedule with the owner. It is really a great place and is run by great people. I highly recommend checking out Griffon to anyone that is curious enough to read this review. You'll love it.

I know they have rpg nights where you can find people playing pathfinder or dnd upstairs but I havent been yet. Also they have products in there made by locals for sale that you should definitely check out! I buy nice sets of dice for dnd here more than anything else.

Very nice owners, great selection. Not a huge selection of Citadel paints here. If you're looking for Reaper miniatures and paints, however, you're in luck. The board game selection is great and lots of Pathfinder/D&D items.

Let me preface this by saying that I have not visited the game room, my experience was limited to the store itself. That said, it's an incredible place to find tucked away in DTSB (downtown South Bend) if you're at all interested in hobby gaming. Though they certainly don't have *every* game under the sun the selection is extensive and includes some surprises. The staff there is super friendly but not intrusive -- happy to let you simply browse but able to answer questions if you have any. I do recommend shopping around as their prices trend closer to the MSRP than online retailer's but for many truly collectible games it can often be a blessing to pay merely $40-50.

Been going to the Griffon for about 30+ years and they have kept up with the gaming, minatures and book scene. New items and old can be found here from new classics to old. Need something to read or play this is the best spot to find it. Ken and Sarah have been a fixture in South Bend for the best and greatest in games and books.

I see there hasn't been a review in a little while, so because I just visited a few weeks ago, I feel I should lend Griffon another great review. I'm a board gamer; I enjoy Axis and Allies, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Risk, Monopoly, etc., and this store had almost any game I could imagine I'd want. The purpose of my friend and my journey was to pick up TransEuropa, a simpler strategy game than the ones I listed earlier. Griffon not only had the game - for a better price than I could find anywhere else - they also had TransAmerica! Of course, we couldn't NOT look around, so my friend and I perused more and fell in love with the bookstore. The plethora of games, expanse of bookshelves, and knowledge of the owner nearly overwhelmed us (in a good way!). And from perusing, we ended up getting another board game and a few books. You better believe I'll be back soon. In short, go; experience what this bookstore has to offer. It's wonderful that South Bend has a gem like this in its downtown area.

One of my favorite places of all time. Stop in and absorb the atmosphere. Pick up a new game. One of the few great places south bend has left. Ken and Sarah are two of the nicest and knowledgeable people you'll ever meet.

This little gem is nestled in downtown South Bend. Hundreds and hundreds of games, great varied and obscure collection. Used books at great used book prices but heavy on military history and philosophy and not a romance novel in sight. Except for Dover classics. Speaking of Dover books, if you love their paper doll books or their little tiny sticker books, you can get those here. Also find game pieces, materials to customize D&D characters, old Viking ship model kits and an impressive display of military helmets on display from every era. Griffon seems to embody the essence of true Geekdom. Military strategy, RPG and eclectic decor such as pinned butterflies makes this bookstore more of a destination and a browser's dream, and less a cookie cutter bookstore. Established in 1976, I hope it stays open another fifty years.

I have been going to the Griffon for 3 decades. Wow its hard to believe its been 30 years. I remember buying first edition Temple of Elemental Evil module in 85, buying first edition Hardcover AD&D MM, Players Handbook, DM's Guide. I cant even count the books I bought and treasured out of the basement. To me the Griffon is a slice out of time that we could never afford to lose.
