I am only leaving this in the hope that it prompts someone to return my calls or emails. I purchased a very cool book pack for a friend's baby shower on May 25. I got a "thank you for the donation" email and was charged immediately, but have heard nothing else and did not receive the books. I reached via phone, email, and social and someone likes my message social, but I got no reply. I went to the shop on 6/30/22, but there was a locked outside door that stopped me getting to the shop door. They were listed as being open for several more hours, but no one answered the door or my call. Such a bummer! I've supported this bookstore through purchasing at Fire n Spice, but I really can't understand how it's supposed to work with online orders. Update: another month later and still no word, but it looks like they did remove this review somehow. Reposting so folks are aware. I ended up filing with my cc company. Update: I was able to contact someone through Instagram and received the books today. They included a calendar, too, which is very cool. Glad that it worked out in the end and I very much appreciate this very cool bookstore!

Great niche bookstore located in an up and coming neighborhood of Hartford. Worth the trip especially if you are into good conversation. The owner Khamani, who is usually there, is always up for a lively debate! Got a great book called The History of White People, would recommend both the book and bookstore to anyone!

This bookstore is amazing! Not only does it showcase black authors and storytellers, but it has literally something for everyone inside. Everything from the classics like Up from Slavery and Why the Caged Bird Sings to black authored children’s books and teen fiction, The Key is definitely a must see bookstore. The owner was so warm, friendly, and full of recommendations. I definitely will be back!

Located in a really convenient part of town. I was able to ride my bike from Trader Joes to this bookstore. They special ordered a book for me and it came in earlier than the date they said it would arrive. Very nice and friendly workers, you can tell that they love what they do. I will be shopping here again.

The the Key Bookstore is PHENOMENAL. Very rarely does one find a selection of books, ,from Children's to Adult's books, as varied and thoughtful. It is beyond incredible. You must pause and take in the history that has been so dark and sordid, and wronged so many people. Only in the Key Bookstore will you find your way to attempt to absorb the pain and suffering of a nation forgotten, and they will remind you poignantly, They are perfect in every way.
