I think this is the best Tattered Cover I’ve been to in Colorado! Mainly because of the their super friendly staff, their massive collection of books, and how spacious it is. There are many desks and chairs so that you can actually read a book before you buy it! Also, there’s a Starbucks inside as well! It’s just amazing!! When you walk into a bookstore, how can you not truly love the “reading” experience?

Who doesn't love a bookstore, well this location has two floors! Lots of books and cute gifts. Nice staff and amazing view. Plus you can purchase wine/liquor well you read.

Tattered Cover has been my go-to bookstore since moving to Denver about 5 years ago. This new(er) location is really neat. The book selection is always good, and we love browsing the various sections. I'm a big fan of the employee recommendation shelves. It's difficult to walk out of here without a handful of books.

This is a cute bookstore. They have a lot of great options, but you'll notice a lot of holes in what they don't care. But still plan on some time to wander through and look at all the different titles.

I have always loved Tattered Cover but love going even more now with my kids. They have a great selection of books with excellent staff recommendations in every type. I also love that they carry a number of whole series in the Children's section that aren't usually available elsewhere (I survived..., Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Wings, Lightning Theif, etc) and have wonderful staff for the Storytime activities. I highly recommend a visit if you love bookstores.

Stunning location. While modern still has its charming effect. Upstairs is great for reading a book and relatively aforándole for a high end bookstore. If you are looking to take a quick break from all the sporting events outside this is a great spot for a midday read and coffee. Worth checking out and hidden gem for little postcards, gifts, and puzzles.

COVID UPDATE: They're back! Don't let the restoration to the outside turn you away, they're open again. Coffee shop and restrooms are closed but your greeted by a table with hand sanitizer and gloves. Store has all the same stuff and a few places to sit that are well over 6' apart. Staff is still around to answer any and all questions. Tattered cover is back! Iconic bookstore on 16th street. Great for browsing around or picking up that book you've been meaning to read, classic or contemporary. Also home to a nice coffee shop with some really great specials. I loved my white mocha with lavender (appropriately named the Mary Shelley). Staff is friendly and knows their coffee. Love this place and will be back!

In the day and age of technology and e-books, this place is a real treat. One of the most incredible bookstores I have ever had the privilege of visiting. The selection of books is tremendous and almost overwhelming. Indie bookstores of this nature are a dying breed and it was really great to see it thriving. Highly recommended.

A very solid bookstore in downtown Denver. I love that they don’t play music here, so you can concentrate on what you’re reading. There are plenty of chairs and a few tables scattered across their first and second floors. They have a few sections of knick knacks gift items for those who like to peruse those. The star knock off is because the restroom is hard to get to. You have to go to the Rally hotel and use their restroom. Another iffy thing is that the location is right off of 20th street and depending on the side you’re on, the way to get to the store can be unsafe. There’s a stretch of 20th with no lights and a ton of homeless encampments. If you’re going north to south, I’d recommend using a scooter or bike rather than on foot.

One of the best bookstores I've seen in a long time. Love that there are lots of store staff reviews on the shelved books. Great location and the architecture of the place is also something to be admired both inside and out. The whole atmosphere will just entice you to have a few reads and eventually buy a book or two.

If you go to Drag Bingo Brunch at the Milk Market, this bookstore is the perfect afterwards spot to visit and wait out the buzz from one too many mimosas.... Picked up two interesting new reads and learned that they order books to the store if it's not already in stock! Support your local bookstore instead of evil corporations like Amehzonk.

A good bookstore with a great location. It leans towards a local bookstore feel but with what’s beginning to feel more and more corporate. Where you see the aged library desks and employee recommendations you are reminded of the pride of a local bookstore, then are pulled away from that when there was little conversation between staff and customers, the connected coffee shop is a Starbucks and there was another comment here about there being no restrooms so I didn’t try. Giving it four stars because the location, recommendations and events are hard to beat. Love the feel of the train station location better though and it’s close by.

I love The Tattered Cover and this location is no exception. Although smaller than other locations, this is a fully stocked bookstore with excellent customer service. The staff is knowledgeable, patient, and available (well staffed and eager to help). Refreshments are available for purchase including wine. The Tattered Cover is a key component of McGregor Square and one of the preeminent bookstore chains in the country. Don't miss it if you live to read!

Despite being a little small in the way of well-known bookstores, this Tattered Cover definitely delivered! The sci-fi and fantasy section is extensive and has a very healthy section of new releases and all the classics I could think of (including a fresh copy of Hyperion). My husband combed the used books section for an hour and walked away with 5 awesome titles. Definitely worth a visit.

The kids books section is absolutely amazing! Way better than barnes and noble. Way better than borders. I'm visiting from Philadelphia and brought 6 books for my son because I've never seen those books in other stores before. They had a better collection of books in my opinion. Great independent bookstore with a nice cozy vibe. The store is well laid out and has ample selection of books to browse. They also have a good number of used books for sale, but primarily sell new copies. The children's area seems adequate and the other sections are well marked. Staff here are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. There's also minimal seating here, but generally it's a bit noisy with how popular this spot can be pre-pandemic. Parking is an issue, just like any other place downtown.

This is most likely one of the best bookstores I’ve ever been to and I’ve traveled a lot. It has a vibe of feeling like you are in an old library, but with brand new books spread across y’all wooden bookshelves. I’ve spent hours here wandering around. There’s lots of unique books and popular ones too. They also have large tables scattered throughout for you to sit down and read or even do some work. There’s a small little coffee/deli at the front of the store. You can grab a light lunch or snacks. The staff is pleasant, but not overly friendly. They feel like introverts who just want to be around books all day. I really enjoy going to this bookstore. It’s conveniently located, although you might struggle a bit finding parking close by unless it’s in a garage. There’s some street parking available, but it’s very limited. It’s a close shot to Union station too!

It’s a smaller bookstore and only one level, so they might not have an item if you’re looking for something in particular (which happened to me). However, because I live in the area I like to go in once in a while as they have some interesting books. Mostly I like seeing the handwritten notes on some of them—or official staff picks. You can’t expect Amazon prices, but they do have some used books in good condition interspersed in the various sections (especially fiction) if you’re looking for a bargain. They do have great places to sit down as well—including a table with a chess board on the top—as well as a coffee shop.

I’ve been going to Tattered Cover locations since there was one in Cherry Creek. I’ve loved them all. This one was a little disappointing. No staff I spoke with was friendly. It was overall small and felt cramped but not cozy. Just overall a disappointing experience. I guess my hopes were simply too high.

Have been supporting TC for 25+ years now, and even though we've moved away from Colorado, we always make a stop here anytime we're in Denver. Unfortunately, our latest experience was a pretty huge disappointment. Had been looking for a specific book as a birthday gift for my partner and when I went online I saw there were 3 total copies available -- 2 at the Aspen Grove location and 1 at the McGregor location. As she had been looking for this book forever, I went ahead and bought it and specifically left detailed instructions to reserve the one copy at the McGregor location as a surprise for her to pick up on her birthday a few days later. But when she went in, she was just told that they didn't have any copies available. After 20+ minutes of confusion, they finally told her they would track down a copy and ship it to us -- at my cost, I assume. Hate to leave a negative review for a small business we've supported so much over the years, but this really ruined a birthday surprise -- and in the back of my head, I know that if I would have just ordered it off Amazon, she'd be reading it right now...

A gorgeous, little gem of a bookstore! The walls are brick, the shelves and benches are a charming old-world wood. Plush leather sofas are inviting and the coffee smells great. Their book selection is immense, and many books are accompanied by handwritten placards that tell you -- in a bookseller's own words -- why the book is worth the read. (I could get lost in there all day just reading those little cards!)

No quarrels with Tattered Cover, they were helpful and fun. But the parking was not a good experience -- we tried to leave after about 45 minutes, and had to sit on the ramp out of the garage for about 20 minutes until security came around to unlock the exits. Very frustrating

A true gem in downtown Denver. The building is gorgeous, but the real draw is the staff. Knowledgeable, courteous, and all apparently read constantly to provide you with what I have to say are the best recommendations. In a world where brick and mortar stores are disappearing, this one reminds you of why those stores were such draws. They'll help you find books you'd never find online. Talk to them. Go in, buy a coffee in their excellent cafe, and give yourself time to enjoy the experience. A reader's paradise.

Large bookstore located right in the downtown Denver area. There is also one located in the Denver airport I discovered. There are so many books to look at and nice areas to relax and read a book. I loved this bookstore my friend and I were checking out while visiting denver. I got a book of womens poetry while there and saw many interesting books highlighted on the shelves. The store itself had a simple vibe with places to sit and a very enjoyable, smart vibe. I was also told while there that the style of the store influenced Barnes and Noble in the green and wooden accents. I would love to go back and find another book if I am ever in denver from the east coast again!

If you love books, a visit to Tattered Cover is a must. Plan on immersing yourself for at least a couple of hours because they have so many volumes of print that it will make your head spin. Thankfully their inhouse coffee shop will feed your body as you take in the enormous amount of material. Staff are highly knowledgeable and friendly and give thoughtful and considered responses to questions and are always happy to help. Although I have not been to their other locations the Downtown space is apparently one of their smaller locations. Join their book club (annual fee of only $20) and you get discounts, advance notice of special events, author signings and the like. Membership gets you all kinds of fun perks as well as $$ saving incentives, so be sure to ask about it when you're at the cash register. In addition to books, they have a large newsstand, odds and ends like puzzles, knick knacks and other gifty and fun impulse items to keep you further captured by the very bookish atmosphere. Lots of tables and chairs scattered around to allow you to peruse through books to your hearts content. Awesome bookstore! I "stopped in" the other day for almost 3 hours. Yes, it's that engrossing.

It's an absolutely lovely store with tons of old-school charm. The staff are down-to-earth, engaging and helpful in the best possible way. There's also a cutesy little coffee nook. Why the low stars review? This place is all style and very little substance. These days it shamelessly caters to the tourists as well as the elitist Lodo-ites. Prices are through the roof as well. And the coffee nook may be cute but serves wildly overpriced coffee and bites. I know it's a storied location and everyone is supposed to love it. But I just find it pretentious & expensive.

The LoDo location on 16th Street has an impressive selection of books in every conceivable genre, a world-class newsstand unlike anything I have found since moving to Colorado - and it is all housed in a huge space that somehow maintains the feel of a small, cozy store. It is the perfect place to escape the Colorado rain, heat, hail, snow or sunshine and lose yourself among comfy chairs, interesting, intelligent people and almost any book you've tried to find, no matter how obscure. I've been to bookstores all over the world but none compare to the perfection achieved by the people responsible for keeping a place like this alive in our increasingly digital world.
