Reviews of Myopic Books
Lana Parker
Myopic Books is a delightful used bookstore. I was impressed by how friendly and helpful the staff were at this store. There was a wide selection of books found on several different floors which were connected by a wooden staircase. The store itself has character. There is paint worn down in several places which really adds to the charm. You can tell this is a store well loved by its community. I highly recommend stopping by this charming store. It is sure to delight book lovers or anyone looking for local charm.

Myopic is an odd mix of old school used bookstore (with home-built shelves made from 2x4s and plywood) and hipster boutique. Either way is a great place to spend a quiet hour or two. The books on the shelves tend to be in slightly better condition than at a typical secondhand bookshop. That said, I have never found the sort of hidden treasure I go looking for in secondhand shops. Good choice for readable copies, maybe less good if you’re looking for collectible editions.
Isabel Ung
Such a cool bookstore!! They have so many books. Even if you’re not a huge reader it’s such a unique spot to check out!
Hollis Gatewood
Definitely worth exploring this place! It's difficult to navigate inside due to the stairs and walkways. Not handicap accessible. But if that's not an issue for you, it's a very cool place to check out. Huge selection of books, many of them unique and unheard of to me. Reasonable prices too.
Kaylee Kempka
My husband very much enjoyed the store! myself however, the store is extremely cramped which is something I can’t really cope with. They have a pretty good selection of books and the set up feels like a maze which helps alleviate the overcrowding. Theres an upstairs and downstairs, very cool location!
Nick Strite
I love this place just to be in. The environment and just the sheer amount of books is wild. The vibe was really on point.
Ivaylo Guenkov
Every time I visit I unexpectedly embark on a journey of self discovery. Best used bookstore iv ever been to by far. The scifi dungeon and philosophy nooks are my favorites. It's the kind of place where you might take a surprise wrong turn an ancient wizard lives around the corner.
frankie yoshi
cool shop, had a lot of different books across the entire store and basement. wasn't noticed by any of the employees though which i didn't mind since i was just browsing. can be overwhelming to some.
Eric Majors
Nice bookstore. Very few bookstores left. They've got some great used books here too and antique books
Shelby Miller
Iove finding random book stores! I found this on atlasobscura.com and enjoyed popping in while visiting the area. Book prices are great, the staff was nice and there was room to roam. It’s a little hard to focus with book shelves going this way and that- definitely a bookstore that is made for roaming without specific books in mind. Left with a murder mystery for $3. So great!
Randall Cook
Nice quiet refuge in Wicker Park. Good selection of books, but not as comprehensive as it could be. But it's a classic used book store, with all the smells, quiet, and cramped shelves and aisles you would expect. Great for browsing and discovering something new. Impressive selection of "geek" stuff, like graphic novels and the like.
Charlie Mango
This bookshop is so fun to explore. I've gotten countless times over the years and always find new sections and truly unique finds. They are up to date with having books that are related to current events and culturally aware. Many bookshops are just out of touch, but Myopic will always be it.
Krishna
Hidden gem! Such a cool vibe what with all the little nooks and crannies and passageways lined with books. Obviously limited selection as it is a second-hand book store, but since it's second-hand it also has a bunch of cool finds you can't find anywhere else. Very fun afternoon.
sydney
such a lovely bookstore. has very fair prices and a huge selection.
Katy Cunningham
The bookstore to go to in Chicago. Please go, bc you’re life is gonna change after entering, and we all need that. Feels like you’re stepping into history. Along with all the cool vibes of the street it lives on, oh won’t regret going, you’ll regret not having made the trip. Enjoy your time here

I like to visit local bookstores when I travel, and locals seem to really love Myopic Books, but I was pretty lukewarm on it. It definitely has a wide selection of fiction but the nonfiction picks are a little slim. I was disappointed because they advertised mythology on the website but had maybe half a shelf of mythology, which is pretty typical, but I felt like the website really overpromised on the nonfiction selection. I did find a couple books though, so it's worth a look.
My big issue was that the layout of the store was really frustrating. I'm not THAT big but there shelves I could barely squeeze between and anytime you're in an aisle, if there's someone to the side of you, you can't get out without an awkward shuffle. There's a lot of unused space on the upper level so it doesn't make sense for all the fiction to be jam-packed like that. The layout is very old school used bookstore where you just cram books in. It could use an update. It was ultimately just too cramped and uncomfortable for me to enjoy browsing.
Jonathan Soto
Whenever I go to Wicker Park I need to stop by here to browse and find a hidden gem.
Prices are great as long as you aren't looking for something extremely popular like Murakami, they need to buy those books new just to keep them in stock. Definitely recommend you stop by!
jon knoll
This is one of the best used book stores I have ever been to. They have a strict rule of " no photography " non the less, I had to take a few pictures. Highly recommend coming here. Don't forgot to go up to the top floor and sit in the perched window for a bit.
Kate Finch
Love this little slice of peace in the city. Best to have an idea of what you want because so many options it can be overwhelming. Three stories of just books old and new.. if you don’t like right spaces it might be best to take a few deep breaths before you entering.
Fang Yih Chan
Love this bookstore the moment I walked in. Lots of interesting collection, reasonably priced and friendly owner. How I wish they have one in NYC.
Garrett Ard
A fun, independent bookstore. Great prices on lightly used books. One could spend hours browsing every little corner.
Colin McCarthy
The best bookstore in Chicago. If you appreciate browsing a selection and finding unique works, this is a must. I visit almost weekly now!
Arasu S
Great used bookstore to visit. The prices are reasonable. Lots of books. Put aside a few hours to enjoy this store.
Mari Yadro
Ecclectic vibe, very open feel and I loved the wall paper look with actual book covers. Well organized and easy to move through. It is not a musty book store with rows and rows of books. Instead it is a trendy book store with current books, even has a kid's corner with a lot for kid's to select from at their eye level, plus a coffee bar and small gift sections. Really enjoyable place to browse.
Tony Albanese
This place is everything a bookstore should be. Terrific atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and thousands upon thousands of books to browse through. Allow yourself enough time to browse when you visit - there's something for everyone here.
Jessica Cusack
Absolutely love Myopic!! Sobmany fun little cubbies, twists, turns and rooms to get lost in. This basement one is a fav for photos. I really love how they write the price inside on the first page in pencil so it could be erased to keep the integrity of the book.
Belen Maldonado (Belen Maldonado)
Good bookstore and the layout is unique and fun plus the employees are super nice. Some of their sections are very underwhelming though. Their occult and religious section is lacking (not the most popular topics so it makes sense.) If you're looking for something more obscure you should probably look somewhere else, but for most people this bookstore has a good variety!
Zach Mariani
Fun, cool bookstore. Definitely worth the trip. Very large selection /offerings
Debbie R
This is the kind of place where you can spend hours finding old treasures and more recent finds too. It's organized well. Staff is knowledgeable. When you visit, try going to the genres you don't normally look in - you might find something delightful!
Ryan
Awesome bookstore. 4 stories of well organized books at low prices
Amber Denwood
Huge selection of used books and a super nice vibe!
Cristie Kwon (권도리)
this is really cute bookstore they have various types of books but they werent that organized so it took me some time to find what i wanted to get and some of them are expensive for used books but worth to try!
Me Mak
I want to live in this bookstore! Multiple floors of used books on many different topics. As soon as you walk in the door you are enveloped by the wonderful smell of old books and surrounded by many choices. Definitely worth a visit if you love reading.
Dara Gami
a must visit if you loves books and cozy places
Kelly Dobson
Awesome book store for all you bibliophiles.
Justin Walker (Jbees7)
Myopic is a hoarder's paradise. Any visiting or local book lover should love sifting through the basement, racks and stacks at this Wicker establishment. The vast majority of books here are secondhand so one can easily fill a bag and not break the bank, the vibe can lean hipster but the staff is unpretentious and friendly and one can find a book on nearly any topic. I often stop here on my commute home from work during the week while waiting for the bus and it is rare that I walk out with nothing. I believe the owners also opened another shop recently in the Bridgeport area so if you can..Shop local!
Orest Schur
This is a lovely 3-stories book store. A lot of books and you’ll definitely find something interesting for you.
Lawrence P Givens
As my field of interest for used books resides only in the Photography genre, Myopic has a stellar selection of content. Pricing is fair and I appreciate that they reserve the more valuable editions in a more secure case to avoid less conscientious hands from adding unnecessary wear and tear.
Book Driver
Unbelievably large collection. Used books in very good or better condition.
The Kat G.
I always stop by there when im in Wicker Park. Ive been shopping here since the beginning...90s and it never disappoints. The art and music section is my dig, though if you are looking the classic, new fiction, or add to your history library, this is the place to start off your book journey.
Luca Juuhl
Pros: Selection is quite large with both new and used books available. Books are in great shape. Employees are wonderful and helpful. Absolutely love the lay out of the store. Great prices. Great organization: books divided by genre and in author alphabetical order.
Cons: None
Brittany Bindon
Great selection and just a hugggee store. The have something for everyone. Staff was also helpful when I asked for recommendations and I definitely walked out with more that I had anticipated, but obviously that's not a problem. Every time I'm in the area, I will be stopping to see what's new!
Malik Purvis
Great books. A bit overpriced but quality books. I wouldn't suggest it for art books (that you honestly could get a lot cheaper) but they have a lot of classic lit and multiple copies of fiction). I usually go for philosophy and while it is lacking they do have quite a few niche books in that category.
M RR
I could spend a whole day here just browsing their whole collection. Definitely worth visiting more than once if you're from out of town like me.
The Krazy Monkey Channel
I was pleasantly surprised at the affordable prices for children's classics.....you never know these days with inflation! Thank you Myopic
서정
this bookstore looks unique from all the rest. the bookstore an impressive collection of used books
Kassandra Goettl
Large selection, well organized, a bit cramped in the narrow aisles. Great place to kill some time. We didnt see prices listed anywhere for any books.
Sarah Yoon
Personally loved the layout of this place! Lots of nooks to display / discover books of all kinds.
Selections include great discounts on classic / quality books and also have consistent newer book collections.
Ken Adams
You can sell your old books here. Only they are very picky and do not accept everything in a row.
Christopher Jackson
Great place to browse for books that you otherwise may never discover. Two of my favorite books came from this store, both of wich I just stumbled upon while randomly looking around.
It also has a cozy neighborhood vibe which is a refreshing alternative to Amazon or large chain retailers.
Definitely stop by if you're on the area!
Otto Rascon
If you love being around books, in particular old books, then this is a must visit. You can stand around for hours just picking up older books and losing yourself in them or go upstairs and sit and read. It's an older establishment and a funky one as well meaning different (much) from larger corporate stores like Barnes and Noble.
Matt Mihalevich
Tons of books. Great prices. Friendly staff.
Tori Schmitt
I like this place, although the organization is a bit confusing. The aesthetic of it is what draws people in. But the customer service the first time I was in was a bit rude. I asked about Stephen King and the employee basically berated me for liking such a well known author instead of being interested in more local or unique authors. Last time I was there, though, the employees were nice.
Sean Wang
Amazing little bookstore in Wicker Park! Tons of books, in a unique, multilevel store with space to sit and read.
Bridget Barrera
Myopic is the best bookstore for new and used books in Wicker Park. It has iconic Chicago vibes and the staff is super helpful and kind. I have been an irregular customer since I moved to Chicago and yesterday I went to sell my all my used books during their weekly book buying. I'm glad they're in good hands and I hope find a lovely new home!
Jessica Winum
This is one of those used bookstores that book lovers revel in visiting. Random bookshelves filled to the brim with books of all shapes and sizes. Very well organized and nicely priced. Staff was very nice as well. In a great part of town. Make it a regular stop!
Karina Valeeva
Good bookstore but the selection is pretty limited
James Zychowicz
What a great used book store! The selection is outstanding, with fine used books at good prices. The fiction is a strong point, but son is history. Art volumes are quite extensive, too. Science fiction and fantasy is in the very dry basement. Even when I visit with the intention of just browsing, I find much to purchase. Sometimes this store just surprises me, and that must be the result of savvy buyers. One best feature of the store is that phones need to be off, and that makes it easier to shop. I love the location and enjoy the long hours.
S Duckworth
I absolutely love Myopic. As others have stated, the selection can be all over the place, but I’ve found with patience, you can find some really unique and wonderful books there. And at some not so bad prices too. The staff is very pleasant as well :)
Amy Coletta
Another reason to love Wicker Park. A gritty bookstore bursting at the seams with inventory. The kind of place where time stops and before you know it you've lost hours to browsing. Staff knows their product. Note, I took pictures before seeing the signs declaring the practice verboten. I was so awestruck by the towering shelves and multiple levels that I didn't notice until it was too late.
Ellery R
Amazing selection of books! Such a unique space. There are multiple spaces to sit and read and a much appreciated no cell phone policy. I was not thrilled with having to check my bag before proceeding into the back area. I understand the reason for such a policy, but do you really think i should trust a random bookstore employee with a backpack containing over $3000 worth of electronics and valuables? Nope.
Elaine “OJ” Wang
Lots of fun to browse, just mind the super narrow corridors
Taylor Berger
A real book lovers paradise, the sprawling space was so much fun to get lost in. Smells great too — like real books!
Be sure to check out all three floors as each one has some really interesting finds. Fiction occupies the ground floor but the basement holds mystery, suspense, horror and travel, just to name a few. Upstairs are more of the non-fiction and series books and is a great place to read.
They have great hours, opening around 9 AM and closing around 11 PM every day. No snacks or coffee but there’s plenty of spots around for that.
Michael Garcia
A gem of Chicago's book scene. Passageways and shelves filled with all kinds of books. Go on an adventure and buy a book 📖 …
andrea nicolas
It has books. A lot of books. Whatever topic you want, they probably have it. I am wondering how the building structurally manages to hold the combined weight of so many books. Or how they make a profit since the prices are kinda real cheap.
The place also has chairs, which is nice. I like chairs, and books. I shall come back for more books and more chairs.
Sean O'Donnell
Definitely one of the cooler bookstores I've been too. Multiple floors and a large fiction section with very nice staff. They are selective as far as what they will buy from you and I was surprised that they did not want some of the titles that I had brought. I hoped that their occult and metaphysical section wasn't so inundated by new age and conspiracy related material but overall Myopic had a great atmosphere and was quite busy.
Batool Khan
Beautiful bookstore with amazing variety and so classy! Has a place to stop and read books.
thewidgetqueen
I love the variety of books that they get. Oftentimes I love looking at books on religion and spirituality as well as occult sciences and even though they have a small section compared to official occult bookstores or seminary bookstores they really have good turnaround of the books on the shelves. Every week it seems they have a new pile of books to go through on the new arrivals cart. I appreciate the staff letting me do my thing without much pestering, I prefer to shop privately, but when I do have a question for them they are always very friendly in their answers which are usually very knowledgeable and helpful, like if they don't carry a particular title they can recommend a store or website to check out. But yeah, it's a great place to hang out(quietly of course) I really appreciate their no cell phone use rule and they do indeed enforce it. Not for silently looking something up or checking facebook but for being on the phone talking to someone or taking pictures around the store. But yeah, it has great sections in cookbooks, history, Buddhism, Christianity, occult studies, poetry, tons and tons of cool art and photography books, and lots of fantasy/horror/geek culture stuff too. I could go on. But I love that they are open late. Nothing better than grabbing a bite somewhere and checking out the bookstore after work. Also from time to time they host some experimental music acts which tend to be worth checking out if you like noisier things in life.
Emily Elizabeth
It's a fun store for sure, and for mostly used books, they do have a good selection, but their pricing is really high. I'll definitely be hitting up Open Books more than Myopic.
Victor Ojeda Jr
Went in and brought three books. Purchased couple of Dr Seuss books for my nephew and his girlfriend, who had a newborn. They can read to the baby. It introduces the baby to reading and books. The store has a wide selection of books. I know e-book is easy, but having an actual book to hold and turn the pages is more rewarding. Cool place.
Stephen Bivens
Coming from an area of the world that has not only lost it's independent book stores, but also all but one of it's chain stores this store should be preserved by the National Parks Department. I mean if They had money and did that sort of thing. Support this store. It's lovely. You can BROWSE books there and it has a ton of cool books. I only wish I'd had more time.
gabriel tunnell
It's like the library of Alexandria but Chicago, the absolute Pinnacle of all bookstores.
Alyssa Jankowiak
Such a cool place! My friend and I were visiting from out of town and had to check out this bookstore. Love the browsing possibilities! Just know that anything bigger than a medium sized purse you have to store behind the counter and they're pretty firm about people not talking on the phone in the store.
lilyuvthevalleyoh
Absolutely adored this bookstore, and I wish I'd had more time here to look more. You could spend a day just looking at their staggering collection. They have a lot of older/vintage books as well, which I personally appreciate. The staff is friendly and helpful too.
Grace M
Most charming bookstore in all of Chicago! I am always so satisfied with the selection, the atmosphere and the friendly staff. No better place to be than Myopic Books!
Doug Merriott
Great selection of used books in a well-organized fashion. There are so few places like this left that it is quite refreshing to see. Three stories of books means that there should be something for everyone. The staff was friendly and attentive!
David Watts
Expansive, got the good good old book smell, they've built their own extra half floors to accommodate the sheer amount of books they have!
Staff kind and approachable, the tall dude especially made sure we weren't completely lost, and spent less than 15 dollarydoos for a good book and a graphic novel. Worth leaving the loop for if looking at books makes you feel good =]
Brandon Soto
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE. It's so unique and has such a personality to it. I've picked up 5 really interesting books (business, self help, martial arts, adventure book, and a photograph book of Frank Sinatra) from here so far and I'm very happy with them!
Force “vasectomy” not pregnancy
They is more beautiful things than Beyonce
Old Joy
I absolutely love this place. There are thousands of awesome bools, and it's just a great place to read and chill. Browsing is half the fun. The books are priced well, and the staff is informative, kind and helpful. Only downside is they do not pay very well when you're selling books there. But if you're just browsing or buying the place is great.
Taylor Hughes
i would give this place 5 stars just for the guy i saw working. idk if he was the owner or what but i heard him talk to multiple customers and boy does he know his books. great store with so much to browse!!
Mark Burger
Compact place (though it has 3.5 floors) had loads and loads of books. Huge and unique sci-fi collection in the basement deserves a special shout-out. I was pleasantly surprised with what I'd found for my collection.
Nathaniel Van Wienen
Fabulous used books collection on three floors. You just have to put your bag behind the counter when you go in. All the prices are inside the front cover. They have a really good knowledge of what is and isn't on the shelves, so you can definitely ask or even call ahead if you're looking for a specific title.
Pia Sanpitak
Interesting selection of old books, organized in an intuitive manner. There seem to be some rare finds in there, and some of these can be pricey! They will check in large bags, and they also have the coolest stairs. :)
Lukas Kucinski
Extraordinary bookstore! The best used bookstore in the city. It's like something out of a fantasy novel. Books everywhere. A maze of shelves and corridors lined with books. Good selection. Friendly staff. You have to put your bags up at the front. There's seating on the top floor; tables, chairs and couches. Don't forget the basement! Most of the sci-fi/fiction is down there.
Rebecca Geissler
The quintessential book store. Crowded with too many books on every level. The smell of used books is so comforting and pervasive and with a massive selection you can probably find what you're looking for plus some. Make sure to stop and chat with the friendly staff and don't be afraid to spend more time than you thought you would here.
Samantha deManbey
Myopic Books has several floors of great used books to choose from. A great place to spend a winter afternoon. On the top floor there is an area where you can sit and read. In the basement they have a great collection of sci-fi and horror. I will definitely return here the next time I visit Chicago!
V G
This bookstore has a HUGE selection of both new and used books, but I feel like it could be organized a little better. The way the books were shelved was confusing to say the least, and it took twice as long as it should have to find the book I wanted. In addition, the used books are overpriced. I picked up a used copy (not in great shape, I may add) of The Road for $8.50, but a new copy sells for about a dollar more than that in most places. If this place were a little more reasonably priced, I would love to shop here, but at this point, I'm really not sure if I will be going back.
Rebecca Mongeon
Wow. What an experience. Myopic books is what a great bookstore looks like. It covers all topics with books of all ages, but remains relevant with a massive collection of gently-used fiction which wraps around from the main floor to a somewhat ramshackle but sturdy and charming mid-stair balcony. Well-known and obscure books alike, I noticed a well stocked chunk of "a handmaid's tale".
The extended hours are a real treat, as an individual staying in the area who had a few hours to kill and did not want to hit the bar scene.
Rachel Stewart
Huge selection and very helpful staff.
Hugo Herrera
I love this bookstore!! Always leave with a book in hand. So many choices and really great prices. It usually feels like an adventure to go here. It's honestly a really great time.
Erin Doubenmier
Great selection of used books. The pricing is pretty fair, especially for the area. Always a fun time to look around at all of the new arrivals. The staff is friendly. Good service over the phone and in person. Lovely little book store.
Rachael H
It is such a nice spot to escape into for awhile. They carry such a great variety of books, so you're sure to find something you're looking for and something you didn't know you wanted. Make sure to check out the basement section too. The only reason it got 4 stars was because it does get cramped in there, but it's also something you have to expect. I will definitely be going back when I'm in Chicago again because I loved the charm and selections.
Alessandro Antonello
Good second hand bookshop. Ok range.
Chris Cervantes
Local labyrinthine bookstores like this are almost necessary to living a good life. The majority of the books are used, making the selection very hit or miss if you're looking for something specific, but the whole point of a place like Myopic is the ability to wander the stacks and come out with something you _weren't_ looking for. It's a great place with friendly staff, and I can't more highly recommend it!
Mic Reich
One of the most complete selections of used books on the North side of chicago. There aren't a lot of people to help direct you, but the prices are fair, the selection expansive, and organization of books rather intuitive. They even buy books on Friday evenings and Saturday before 4pm (they will give you a good price... but are selective on what they take). I specifically recommend their music and arts section located in the front of the store.
Claudia Herrera
This truly is a neighborhood gem, and exactly what you picture when you think of a used bookstore. First off, they do have a hugee selection, but I think they've done their best to somehow arrange it in a logical manner. I come here for their graphic novel collection, which is way cheaper than at comic book stores or online. Even if you're not looking for a book, stop in, and enjoy browsing!
n s.
You can find interesting books you've never seen before.
D Roch
Not a place to go to find a specific title. They don't have a computer system to look these things up. But the staff is super friendly and clearly love books! You can spend a long time just browsing the shelves, picking a title and reading upstairs. I love finding old favorites and rekindling my love, as well as finding new surprises and taking a chance.
Bryan Padilla
This is a real gem for anyone who reads. The many levels and twists within this bookstore can cause a person to get lost for hours in interesting and obscure publications.
Myopic books has a variety of genres so you're sure to find something! Great place to get a gift for someone.
Ryan Evans
Deceptively large. There are rooms within rooms, and stairs everywhere. And in each of these rooms, there are books! And more books! Anything you can imagine. Best thing to do is to wonder around until you find a topic that is mildly interesting and then take a chance on a random hard-cover book that will look great on your bookshelf (if you own a bookshelf).
Jordan Gates
Great selection of used books. The store is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside with 3 floors of bookshelves and reading spaces. It's slightly overpriced for books that aren't new, but there's a good chance you'll find some gems.
Liberty Underpants
The prices are kinda steep compared to other used book stores I've visited, but the vast selection and careful arrangement more than make up for it. It's really nice to be able to quickly find what you're looking for. The staff are also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. If they seem curt, it's probably because they're really busy or you're asking them for information that's easily found on one of the signs posted around the store/check out area, so maybe try paying attention instead of calling them rude.
Adam Carr
A curated used book store for the avid reader, and esoteric peruser of books. Not the place to find your dime store romance novels, and dont expect them to tell you if they have anything in stock, and cell phones are a strick taboo, but the hipster charm is infectious. If you love books and have ever wandered what happens to the books people buy at Barnes and Noble after they don't read them, or what happens to your grand father's collection of military history, nonfiction and biographies, they are here, in three floors of wall to wall, floor to ceiling, glorious used books. It's in a pretty cool urban area of Chicago that's worth a visit all in itself as well.
Mikie Hernandez
OMFG AMAZING! This is a bibliophile's wet dream!
I'm not sure it's going to be what you're looking for if you NEED a specific book, but it's perfect if you're looking for a specific topic and a WHOLE lot of books about it.
The staff is great and know their store well.
A+++ AMAZING!
Amy Wilschke
You could spend an entire day in here and not see everything Myopic has to offer. This is exactly what you want in a bookstore - a bunch of book nerds, milling about a multi-level, curiously organized, musty-smelling, overly warm sea of paper, ink and binding. But as a lover of books (BOOKS, not ebooks), I found this place to be a bit pricey for a used bookstore. Prices seemed to be about half-off the cover price. You can get much better deals elsewhere, but this is a great place to browse, hang and discover hidden treasures.
Granger Marsden
Great local book store. Rare finds, great prices. Downside is you can't garuntee to get a certain number in a series. They also allow well behaved dogs while browsing.
Erin Gilmore
One of the best used bookstores in Chicago. Three and a half levels, many varieties. I go about every month and always end up buying something.
Christina Volkoff
A nice and large used bookstore. Knocking off a star cause I was uncomfortable with the bag policy (even my smallest crossbody bag is too big and that can't hold anything in it) and the no phone call policy, which isn't stated at the door, but rather on little paper signs in odd corners that are hard to notice if you aren't looking for them.
Seth Lindsey
Books, books, and more books! I would suggest having a list of what you want before even showing up, because the amount of literature in here is mind-boggling. Thankfully, the sci-fi section in the basement assisted me in narrowing down some of my choices.
Definitely a good place to stop by, kill some time, and grab a book before heading down to Wormhole Coffee.
Anders Nelson
Huge selection of books, the shelves are packed with interesting finds. The staff is very friendly. They seem to be knowledgable on like every book in there. Taking away 1 star because of how cramped it is.
michael brooks
creative use of space!
trendy hipster book store but certainly has some gems and is very unique. i come from a city where we cherish paper books so it's nice to see a space in such an established city caring for traditional reading sources. go chicago!
tip: no bathroom
Thomas Besore
I love a good used book store .... and Myopic fits the bill nicely! It's so cool to step inside here and step back in time, wandering history with such a vast collection of well-read books on every subject imagineable. This really feeds one's wanderlust for discovering new things and feeling connected to humanity through the written word. A Chicago classic!
Mark Fisker
Built out of an old bank vault, Miopic is truly a unique book store! There is more than one floor to this book store, and many of the elevated walkway parts are hand built out of wood. While the selection may be more dated, this is definitely a book store that should be visited at least once, take it from someone who isn’t a big reader!
Blake Williams
I've always loved this used book store. Helpful staff and an awesome selection which makes up three floors. Their book buyback is fair and expedient. Great place.
Ember Urbach
Great selection but it's a bit overwhelming and hard to navigate the different sections sometime.
Leija Onate
I love this bookstore!!! Staff is so helpful with everything and there is SUCH a wide selection of books. I love going upstairs and reading. Such beautiful little nooks of books, too!!
Josh Allen
Great local book store with used books. I can always find a gem here. Service is good. Place can be a bit tough to navigate due to the number of books and dealing with an old building floor plan but there is a lot of signage to get you back on track.
Kasey Keller
Super helpful staff! Very friendly and knowledgeable! Lots of books to vie and very well organized (as you can be for such a large collection). Highly recommend visiting this place it you're into books!
Joey Hernandez
You find crazy spots like this in downtown Chicago. The book part was not exaggerated. With three three story floors including the basment of books ranging from cook books to LGBT story literature its an interesting place to visit to say the least.
Jessica Spencer
One of my favorite book stores of all time. You could spend days there. You never know what you'll find, but also not the best place to look if you need something specific. Staff is helpful and I can email ahead to see if they have something before I go in.
Rod Bergl
Really enjoyed going to this store. Very good sections on architecture and photography, among others, with reasonable prices.
Staff were friendly and tolerant of my small dog.
Jess Colopy
This is a fun place to explore! I don’t think it’s somewhere to come if you need to pick up a specific book and leave. The staff is friendly, the store has a lot of character, and you never know what you’ll find on the rack.
Stacy DeMeester
Very cool used bookstore! I browsed for an hour and was impressed by the amount of books and how great the quality was.
They had several large art and architecture books for very fair prices.
A must-see for fellow bookworms!
Kimo Carl
Large selection of books spanning across every genre. Cheap prices due to the books being second-hand. Remember to leave your bags with the front-counter before you lose yourself in the countless rows and floors of bookshelves.
Jeremy White
Bigger than it appears from outside! They have a collection of books-real hold-in-your-hands books-that is not just from a few popular authors. Here, you have the chance to sift through the vast potential of unrevealed genius. And, there are gems with which you could walk away.
Ken Black
Cool bookstore. It appears to have been a bank or jewelery store in a past life; there is a huge iron cage separating the front and back of the store. Besides looking cool, Myopic, had a great used book selection.
Oliver Peckham
Amazingly dense selection in a setting with personality and comfort. An absolute must for any Wicker Park visit. The store is very quiet and the staff won't bother you - great place to sit and read!
Paul Moreno
Small, cute, and local space with a very kick back feeling. The staff are SUPER friendly and they're more than happy to help you find something. Awesome place to sit and read or just browse the selection. A bookworm's paraside. :)
Austin Tubbs
So many books to choose from, and all for a good price
Tara Schnaible
The most amazing used bookstore you will ever visit. It feels like a treehouse and a book store married, then had some crazy baby. TONS of books, really great staff and the best atmosphere.
Paulina Lei
Really neat bookstore! Super fun to walk around as it was great to just explore a bookstore with many shelves to surround you!
Service is great as well, feel like you could spend hours here if you wanted to.
Emma Pomes
Good collection! Thin in some areas, hobby & DIY, tabletop RPGs, children's and YA books, to name a few. *Incredibly* good for academic texts. If you're looking for poetry, history of any kind, biographies, criticism - anything dense and thinky and possibly out of print - check Myopic Books.
Jakub kowalczyk
Always love visiting this store when I'm down town, the book selection is amazing. The store is nice and cozy floors and levels of books a true book lovers haven. Truly a place to visit if your a real book love.
Ala Haddadin
Lovely book store, great staff! Great place to just explore.
Jake Dermer (Do It At Your Desk)
This place a city of books. The narrow corridors and massive walls of books are a fun place to waste some time exploring.
It is strange that they don't allow photography, seems like a missed opportunity for marketing in the social media age.
Rodney McFarland (Rodney McFarland)
What an awesome place! We relaxed in the upstairs reading room and bought some hard to find books at a great price. It was cheaper than Amazon and had a fun environment.
kate swem
Myopic is the place to go in Chicago for used books. They have a huge space with many quality options and a good selection in a wide range of topics. It also has a comfy feel to it and the staff are friendly when you feel a little lost in the stacks. The prices are reasonable and they also buy books from customers (Yeah! Extra cash!).
Jennifer Stephens
Such a great unusual selection of books.
Millicent Moore (will2bill)
Really cool second hand bookstore. Absolutely massive, a great place to get lost. Be prepared to come out with a stack of good books (and comics they've got a very impressive selection)
Thomas Rzodkiewicz
Great used bookstore.
Tens if thousands of books
One can spend hours browsing in there.
Yesenia
One of my favorite bookstores in chicago! So many books on all three levels! I stop by this place whenever I go to Wicker Park even if I don’t buy any books. Definitely check it out, and don’t forget to go down to the basement!!
Felipe Reyes
Even though I love the place, the service is awesome, the books are in fairly good price and the site itself is amazing I cannot let go this... Spanish, polish, Italian, japanese and all the other languages non native yo this land are as foreign as English!!!! #todossomosmigrantes
Haven Blake
Absolutely loved this bookstore.
Henry B
EVERYTHING that I want from a book shop. It's wonky and filled with all sorts of odd nooks and crannies. Great selection of books. Yet to come out of here empty handed.
Cody W
Old school bookstore with a very cool feel to it. The old book smell, narrow walkways, and tall book shelves create a unique atmosphere. Book lovers will love this place.
Greg Bunker
This bookstore is awesome. It's three stories and filled with tons of different sections. I've been a few times and it's awesome just to walk around and browse. Recommend.
Rob FayMcKinstry
A maze of book stacks that one could get lost in for hours. Be sure to eat lunch before you go - you don’t wanna be run out of the store by the hangries.
Michael Kinkoph
Awesome vibe second hand bookstore
Jeannine Daboub
Best place on earth! All the books you can imagine and the ones you can't. Very organized and great prices. You can definitely make a day out of it just checking every section 😍 …
Chris Olson
This place is small....but the selection is huge! You can find some rare stuff here but for a price ..not overly expensive if say about right on target prices. Overall great dive bookstore!!
Hayley F
A lovely 4 story used book store, with a plethora of amazing finds. Pick a book, grab a chair, read for a bit, drink in the smell of old, dusty deliciousness, and support this literary gem.
Lauren Makholm
Great bookstore, especially if you want to browse. They don't often have popular books or specific books I want but you can always call ahead to check if you're looking for something specific.
Evan Stoner
Hands-down my favorite bookstore in the city! I've spent hours here buying and selling books and wandering through the stacks. Myopic is particularly great if you're interested in fiction.
Suzan Pero
I would live here if they let me. The smell of old books is heady and the selection is unreal. I wish I could have this many books and I always find a few that need to come home with me. #booknerdgoals
Carsen McFarland
This place was wonderful! Like a maze of books. It was a little unorganized, but I think that is part of the charm! I recommend reading in the giant bench on the top floor in the bay window. Good street view.
Jennifer Che
Had a magical experience where book after book I stumbled upon was fascinating and compelling. The people who curate the inventory are geniuses. Bought more books than I intended or could fit in my luggage.
Rosa Claire
A great unique bookstore I was able to find some interesting books on every subject matter I could think of, left with 3 books but definitely wanted more! Love the sitting area on the second floor.
Clay K.
I like this store; I always stop by when I'm in the area. The prices are a little high compared to typical used book stores and the staff can be pretty pretentious. Still, the selection is huge and changes pretty regularly, so it keeps me coming back.
Shannon Furlan
I went into Myopic the first time, and waws very surprised sby the cleanliness, and incredibly helpful staff. I went with a friend, and didn't intend to buy anything, but after asking one of the sales people about some suggestions for a book club book, I was given 5 great options, and ended up picking one for our bookclub. I would suggest that anyone who appreciates books and reading should definitely go there!
Nisha Singh
I just love this place....they literally have books floor to ceiling. Its a place to come and expect to get lost for a while. The prices great! I find steals and deals everytime O visit!
Torri W
If you need a great book at a very competitive price, this is the place for you. I found a book I've been looking everywhere for outside of online. Amazon's price was higher plus shipping would only be free if I spent $49.00. The price of the book I wanted plus tax was much cheaper.
none anon
beautiful bookstore, feels a bit like a timecapsule, interesting book selection.
contains major hits as well (picked up neuromancer)
Ang Catania
Cozy and kitschy - the kind of book store you could get lost in for hours.
Jean-Gabriel Young
Wow such an amazing place. I love the labyrinthine aisle and the sheer amount of books that are there.
One of the best used sci-fi collection I've seen!
Raymond Horvath Jr
This book shop has a wide variety of books to buy at the right price, just peek inside the book in the upper right-side of page to find the price. Overall the ambiance atmosphere is equivalent to a café of sorts with a quiet library silence.
Austin Graff
Myopic Books is the coolest used book store in Chicago and appropriately in the hipster neighborhood of Wicker Park. It's HUGE (Three floors) and their mystery book room is in the basement in a back room (so creepy but awesome!). If you're in Chicago and love a good book store, definitely stop by Myopic Books!
Dave O'Driscoll
Wherever I am in the world, I always check out a used book shop. Myopic was great and the guy behind the counter was super friendly. Picked up a copy of Robert Evan's "The Kid Stays In The Picture".
Michael D
Cool spot, definitely variety that other bookstores can't compete with and unique layout. If you're into books it's worth the trip.
Andrew Brickell
Lots and lots of books, not much space
DresdenQ ZeroZero
Huge selection on three floors
Mark Dominesey
Hyped well on Google, underwhelmed. There are better bookstores, but this one is within walking distance of downtown and the lakefront so worth a trip. I did drop sime cash, but again, been to much better places.
Jacob Boesch
Myopic is such a unique, eclectic bookstore. Their prices are fair and you'll find a wide selection. Even if you're not in the market for any new books, it's worth it just to look around.
Zachary Ford
Myopics is provides a strong neighborhood feel to book store exploration that Barnes and noble cannot provide. The store is a bit cramped. On a weekend it is usually hard to move around due to crowds and narrow aisles, so it is preferrable to do your shopping on a weekday.
Theresa DesRosiers
Good selection of books at very reasonable prices. Disappointed that they did not have a public restroom.
Tommy Barrett
books are kinda unorganized. i found a capitalist book in the marx section last time i was here. to their credit, the book had a deceptive title (why capitalism?) but even still, dont come here if you plan to do anything more specific than browse
Richie Simms
Sort of a vintage, retro, haunted house vibe. Very cool place to browse and pick up a book.
Larry Wolf
A landmark bookstore with an eclectic selection and constant flow of books
Erin Hallagan
There's a great selection of books.
However, they're a little pricey for books that you could find cheaper at thrift stores.
Cool environment.
C H
My goodness, what can I say, this is the best bookstore I've ever been to. I love every part about it. It's heaven on Earth.
Lee Hanten
Always a pleasant experience. Great selection of interesting used books!
Andrew Crow
Didn’t find anything but didn’t give myself the proper time to browse. The building and setting in the basement is worth a peek.
Wes Shepherd
Three stories of unbelievable selection. I've been in bigger used book stores, but the actual selection here is on par with most. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Peter Hake
Highly rated book store for the neighborhood. Staff are nice, but plan on doing most the exploring and work on your own. That's half the fun.
Cori Camp
By far the coolest bookstore ever! So many choices, and SO many books! Best 2 hours I've ever spent but I could have stayed all day!
Charles Cole
Fantastic book selection. Workers are always friendly and helpful, and there are spaces to plop down and try out a book before you buy.
Mustafa Tonkul
This is an excellent bookstore in my neighorhood. They have a very broad variety of books (classic, sci-fi, poets and pretty muc everything)and if you are a tourist and do not know much about Chicago, you will find great things there!
Nick G
Nice selection of books. The categories take time to get used to but once you do it is fun going up and down the 3 stairs and finding stuff you didn't see before
Stephanie Sack
#30daychallenge
Any bookstore that has categories such as "Geek", "UFOs", and "Occult" is a-okay with me.
By some freak of nature, I am an extremely fast reader, and Myopic has just the panacea for that particular malady.
Tomes upon tomes of gently used and much loved books to entice and entangle and entertain. I have snapped up biographies, cookbooks, screenplays, you name it. And I can always go back for more!
I do think the prices are a scosh high, but the curation of the titles and their solid condition definitely justifies the cash outlay.
Oh, and I love their upstairs kitty and sometimes he lets me pet him! Bliss! Cats and used bookstores go perfectly together for some reason, you know?
Aashwi Bhatt
My favourite bookstore ever!! Honestly the coziest place in the world I loved it!
Abner Casiano
Pop culture abounds. Modern and somewhat older books to be found here. Nothing spectacular but nice little setting to get out of the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Paul Hanula
They have a lot of books. I've never had trouble finding a book that I was looking for, even when I didn't think they'd have the book. There is also a nice reading area.
Laurel Miltner
Floor-to-ceiling books organized in the most specific genres ever. How you'd find any particular book you're looking for, I'm not sure, but this place is full of discoveries.
Jeongmin Lee (Jenny)
They have a ton of books. They have a ton of great books. They have a ton of great books so don't go there so I can get 'em all. Just kidding about the last part. Also the staff are super helpful.
Susan Aldous
A must see for anyone visiting Wicker Park. I can't pass by the place without stopping in to browse and leaving with a great find. Additionally, greatly appreciate the 'take your cell phone calls outside' guideline.
Karl Schmidbauer
Quite a find. This store contains an untold amount of list treasures. I love used bookstores for their eclectic and ever changing selection and this one is no exception.
Simone Morris
Unique place, three floors of books, sorted/labeled well
Dan L
Nice cozy new & used book store, wish I had all day to peruse the offerings. Will recommend to any readers I know and meet.
Kurt Kugel
Fantastic used bookstore. First time in Chicago and was very impressed by their selection
Gabe Mendoza (Gabe)
Such an amazing book store. Plenty of well kept books of different types. The study area in the second floor is perfect to cram before finals.
Anthony Randazzo
I was browsing during Wicker Park Fest, small talking with a friend, then took a phone call. Some how THAT was too loud and I was asked to leave? I guess Father Time in there didn’t like LeiKeli47 and took it out one me lol.
Jonathan Knutson
Outstanding selection... pretty good setting... great location. Check out this book shop, you won't be disappointed.
R.W. Sinclair
Huge and somewhat chaotic but they have everything. 4 floors of any topic you can think of. Don’t be put off by all the warning signs, the staff is friendly.
Shane
A wonderful bookstore. Loads of books, every genre (as you'd expect), prices are reasonable, particularly for the miles of old paperbacks you're gonna buy.
Matt Ames
Really nice book store. When I was in there they asked a woman to leave for talking on her cell phone too loud. Very cool.
Kaytee Walker
This place was AWESOME! There were four floors and a basement. Can't imagine anyone being able to see every book, there's just so many.
Randall Edwards
Easy to sell books here - better prices and much faster than Half Price Books. Locally owned store that's anchored the neighborhood before it was cool.
Donn Hussey
Nice bookstore. I didn't have the time to peruse it as deeply as I wanted, but they seemed to have good selections.
Allie Serd
They are a little cluttered but what can you expect from the last bookstore in Chicago, I mean it is like Half-Price books but just a little more local, I loved their layout of books, the stairs are okay but you can def get lost within all the books they have an awesome selection.
Blake Frink
Great little bookstore. It's almost overwhelming how great their selection is.
Kristen DeLap
Can lose hours in here easily. Easy to sell back books. They seem to always buy back my kids books!
chris cwik
One of my favorite used book stores. Lots of neat books. Been going there for years.
Robert Parungao
Great bookstore with tiers on tiers of books (I think it is 4 storeys in total). While you won`t find everything you are looking for, it is easy to lose an entire day in the shop if you aren't careful.
Samantha McGowan
I love getting lost here. The fiction section is the best part, but the poetry section is worth mentioning as well. I wish their nature/environment was better, though.
X Segovia
Myopic looks like someone's fantasy book attic. They have books stuffed into just about every corner they'll fit with shelves that run close together and up to the ceiling. They carry a wide selection, including foreign language books and rare collectibles. There's no place with an ambiance like it.
Jordan Silberg
Great variety of used books with any category you could want. Reasonable prices.
John Tiessen
A fun store to get lost in. Don't go here expecting to find something specific but come here if you're willing to let your mind wander and find something unexpected.

Hollie M.M.
Great friendly customer service. They really went above and beyond to accommodate me.
lauren lerm
So Many Books! Faculty was k8nd and there was a wide selection. My only compaint might be that the organization was really conplicated. Know what you're looking for!
Brian Crotty
Really cool bookstore. The upper levels are worth checking out. There's basement too but it's harder to find. Prices aren't low but it's in downtown Chicago
Plant Kiki With Plant Dad Edwin

Aaron Flores
Lots of books and it's a treat to get to look around for the right one but I suggest going when it's not busy
Monifa Hunt
Love Myopic...a go to for years! They need to expand their offering to include Afro-American and Hispanic literature and poetry, but I always find something!
Shannon Maki
Great place with a ton of used books featuring a sweet creepy basement full of sci-fi books. I'd post a picture, but they frown upon pictures being taken there.
yinyang zen
This is my favorite book store in Chicago. Good for stumbling upon gems, discovering something new both in terms of books and events and insta pictures as well.

It has a great selection and right by my new favorite coffee place!

A true city gem, Myopic is the place for used books in Chicago. Came here with a few friends to grab a book and came away with a stack from novels to cookbooks. Start by the entrance where they stock newer releases, I discovered it on the way out and wish I had browsed it first.

My only complaint is the parking. Takes me 30 minutes every visit to find a spot. But I stop here every time I come through. Love it!

Claustrophobic setting, where you tend to think you're tunneling through books. That old bookstore small. Pretty much all I want from a used bookstore
