Reviews of Bargain Books Boise
Randy
This is a wonderful used bookstore that is 3 or 4 times the size of most used bookstores. They prices are very good and the atmosphere is fantastic. I try to get there at least once every other month.
Kari McCluey
I knew it was going to be good when I stepped through the door and was delighted by the smell of old books. Great place to hunt for old goodies. Prices are good and there are sweet pooches to pet, love it.

Great selection, this store is amazing for anybody looking for any type of book as well as antiques. The owners and their dog were extremely nice. I love how you don’t have to feel pressured into buying anything like the rest of the book stores I have been to. The prices were a bit high, but not as expensive as barn and nobles.
Jeffrey Molina
Hidden Gem. Bought some old chess and rubix cube books. Brought the wife and kid. Chill dog to pet, he is awesome. Books you're looking for can be a hit or miss and price can be a little high. i believe I got a good deal though. Check it out! Even just to look around

My first visit there I was extremely impressed. Not only at the sheer number of books and space in the shop but at the cool nicknacks other media that could be bought there. They even have some antiques in the back. While the majority of the focus is on books, with prices between 4 to $7 on average. If you bring in trades you can get have price the listed list price on the cover making each book about $4 or so. Which is an extremely great price. Could easily spent 30 minutes to an hour browsing.

Wow! This bookstore is awesome!! Large and spacious with an incredible Christian section my wife was super excited about! Will make it our regular go to bookstore. The greeter dog is awesome too!
Sarah Bender
Such a variety of books to choose from! I especially like their Classics section. Plus you get to visit with the store mascot, Daisy, a boxer. She is very sweet!
Abbie DeGregorio
A book lover's paradise! Amazing selection of books! I could spend hours browsing and probably still wouldn't get through all the inventory on the shelves! For the younger bookworms, they have a sizeable section dedicated to children's literature. They also have antiques and new cute/kawaii items to round out your shopping experience. The owners and their dog are so welcoming and ready to assist their customers. If you're in the Boise area, you should stop by Bargain Books!

I love the daisy dog greeting customers. I loved the bookmarks given, friendly staff and books on extreme sales. Why buy new?

Spent a lovely 30 minutes wandering around the shelves here, finding some vintage novels from the 50s, and 60s with their interesting covers. Had a sniff greet with the resident and friendly puppy. Low-key, good variety. Will be back. Important to give places like this the business.
Kally Ice
Such a cool store! I could spend hours in here <3 I've gotten thirteen books here so far. They have a great variety of books, everything is great value, the staff are so friendly, and the decor is awesome! Definitely stop in and buy some books!
Jared S
Great selection of used books!
Olyver Thew
Tardis type experience, smaller on the inside, bigger on the outside. Wonderful space full of a lovely variety of books. Relatively quiet with lots of chairs to sit in between perusing interesting titles.
Daisy their mascot is getting older but still friendly and will disappear to snooze in between greeting customers. Prices are super affordable, and they have everything from newish books (last few years) - to vintage copies that are sealed in plastic to protect the fragile covers and pages. Wonderful little collection of knick knacks and oddities, and im sure some antiques snuck in between.
I didnt catch the owner's name, but they seemed to be a nice couple of individuals who just enjoy the pleasures of a quiet warehouse made cozy for thousands of titles stacks next to each other on shelves, carts, chairs, the floor and alike. Also have a trading credit system to get half price off their books when you turn in some. Their trading system as kept with records and never expires. I will definitely be returning for some much needed book therapy!
Judah LoVato (LoV-Write)
Really good experience here! Well organized sections, well tended displays, and a fun smattering of antiques and oddities new and old. The 'owner', Daisy, is exceptionally charming, and the whole team (Daisy, Micky, Clayton) create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere.

We’re from the IF area and decided to come to Boise for a visit. We don’t have any book stores like this in Idaho Falls, so I was very excited! Daisy is absolutely adorable, she greeted us at the door & the owners are so nice. They gave me a bookmark and some business cards featuring daisy. My husband (who is not a reader) even found something he was interested in and I was able to snag a 1st edition Stephen King. Most “wholesome” part of our quick visit & I cannot wait to go back again!

Bargain Books is a neighborhood gem at Cole and Franklin with a good mix of predictability and surprise—not to mention a welcome break from Amazon. The homey reception starts with being greeted by a well-behaved dog and a view of shelves that extend back into a space that is much larger than expected. In addition to an excellent variety of well-organized books, there is a selection of original mid-century childhood/YA books and reasonably priced, one-of-a-kind gift and jewelry items. We enjoyed chatting with the personable owners and are looking forward to returning with regularity as new stock is constantly coming in.
Alexis Ybañez-Johnson
Such a wonderful place to look for books. (Or other things, they don't just sell books!) The owners are amazing and kind. I ESPECIALLY like the four-legged employee 😉 Very welcoming, and cuteeee.
Would definitely recommend shopping here. You're helping a family business, and finding great prices on great products. ⚡

Incredibly helpful and cheerful couple. The location is definitely more convenient than the old one and parking is vastly better. If you read a lot of books and need to change up your collection, they do store credit on any book you bring in. With that store credit you are able to put it towards your next Literary adventure (book, I mean book for those that don’t get it). Will for sure be back to peruse their collections.
cary gifis
You get credit for bringing in books. 1/2 off. Who does that anymore. If you want a book about anything go there first!
Nate
Stopped by for the first time and was warmly greeted. The gentleman working helped me find some books I was looking for and, being that it was my first time, explained their credit system for trade-ins. There are a lot of treasures here, including many classics for children. The books that I looked at all seem fairly priced. I will definitely be returning.
Judy Kelley
Bargain Books is an amazing store!
The book selection covers so many subjects as well as fiction.
They have puzzles and games and beautiful glass ware. Well worth the visit!
Craig Stevens (Tandaz)
Stopped in yesterday because I enjoy looking for nostalgic reads and interesting editions. Found a really cool version of The Hobbit that I haven't seen before. The owners were really nice and super helpful. They get different stuff all the time and kindly invited me back. Was really thrilled that I stopped in on a whim.

My favorite used book store, and not just because it's across the street. Daisy, the Boxer who greets everyone, is such a friendly dog, and it's so fun having her there. You never know what you're going to find. Every time is a new adventure.
Dave Eslinger
A delightful used bookstore. Large selection of books and other treasures in a spacious setting. None of that "Be careful or the shelves will fall on you" feeling. Friendly, helpful staff and a delightful shop dog.
Britney Butler
I stopped in a few months ago and haven’t stopped thinking about this place since; I really enjoyed looking through all the books & finding hidden treasures. When I first walked in I was overwhelmed with what looked to be (slightly organized) chaos- books piled everywhere, even stacked on the floor- , but soon found comfort that there were so many books on so many topics. I couldn’t ask for a better bookstore. A little disorganized, yes, but who cares when their selection is so wide. Can’t wait to go back! (& I also loved that Daisy the Boxer was there to keep me company while I searched for books)

First time I have been in here, was really pleasantly surprised. Sitting in the science fiction section....in the silence so great you could hear a pin drop....the books seem decades old, removed from a modern society that scorns the things these books say....it can feel lonely and isolating being a science fiction fan....but you realize that they contain the properties of hopeful futures and terrifying dystopias...they contain the most expansive visions of humanity's future....plus one of the coolest people I know reads or read a ton of SF books.
Cadie Anderson
I LOVE this book store and will probably spend the rest of my life shopping here. Their dog is so adorable and very friendly. The owners are really nice and kind! How do more people NOT know about this store?! Its overflowing with books its so wonderful!

Great new location at Cole and Franklin, next to the Boise Aquarium. Huge new space, and in addition to books are DVDs, audio books, vintage board games and curios like a portable typewriter and collectible editions. Owners Clayton and Micki are glad to help and Daisy is always ready to greet new customers. Found a great Preston Sturges bio, hardback, in great condition, for seven bucks. Check it out.
Jonah Ferguson
Walked in with my brother to check this place out, not at all disappointed! Great atmosphere with positive vibes. The guy manning the desk was helpful and knowledgeable, and knew the locations of different books/authors in the store like the back of his hand. All together a great experience!
Sabra Haney
I am SO happy that this great little shop has been purchased by new owners & is continuing to be a fabulous place for book collectors to find treasures!! The new owners are friendly & helpful. If the people can't find what your looking for, Daisy the shop-dog surely can!
William & Jasmine Reif
I stopped by this book store on a whim and I’m so happy I did. It has new owners, who are very friendly. I found ALL three books I was looking for for my teenager and some for me. Definitely going back again soon. Plus they give discounts if you buy more than a few books. Great deals at this shop.
matthew hill
Good selection, great prices and friendly I was almost able to pick up the entire series of books I was after. Can't fault a used book store for missing one though. Absolutely will be back periodically to finish the collection.
Stephanie Ricketts
Boise style Powell's (in my opinion ❤). Clayton the owner is wonderful. I highly recommend this bookstore. Check it out and see for yourself why!
Mel anie
This was a fabulous gem of a used book store. A rather large selection, organized very well into sections. They also have a large selection of older books, that are kept in plastic. The prices seemed very reasonable as well.
Calvin Werry
I have dropped in an bought from this store over the last several years. Recently I dropped in and found it under new ownership. The new owners are sorting the books and should have them in good order soon. I always like buying local when possible. The owner was very helpful in my search, didn't find what I wanted but saw several other interesting books.
Trisha Trout
Such nice owners! And you have to go meet Daisy the dog. She will help you choose something. 😊 Endless books in every genre and arranged neatly so you can find what you are after. …
Kat Roemer

Mickey, Clayton, and Daisy,
Your store is outstanding! I like the selection, the layout, the chairs, everything. The welcoming committee even gave me some kisses. I wish there was a store like yours where I live. I'll be back!
Christopher Scott
Great local store. They have the cutest store dog. So many amazing books, movies and other things. They're moving downtown Boise and reopening into a bigger more awesome location.
Walter H.
I was only in for a few minutes, so keep that in mind. Seemed fairly disorganized. I was interested in some books but they were overpriced. I suppose it's a cool place if you like to go hunting for what you want. Very helpful owner, very friendly.

While bookstores abound in the Boise area, most appear like variety stores where coffee is sold and electronic trinkets, toys, or records are purchased. Paperback books tend to be predominate and, with the exception of works on history, technological writings are most evident. On the other hand, Bargain Books—an establishment specializing in used books—is like an oasis in an urban desert to the avid reader. No frills or “come on’s” here; only the very best selection of preowned, used books found in the Treasure Valley. These magnificently preserved books allow the reader to purchase both the “old” and the “obscure” masterpieces of the writer’s art. Even complete book series such as Time Life, Readers Digest, and a host of older encyclopedias are available for purchase. There is also an excellent selection of science fiction and mystery novels. The furnishings are simple, the owners are exceedingly courteous, and the ambiance speaks for itself. Plan to spend some when you explore Bargain Books. I spend my extra time here just to read and relax and would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape the rat race.

Prices are about what you should expect from a used book store. The owner is somewhat curmudgeonly, but he is one of only a few people that actually checks my ID (I have see ID written on it) when I pay with a card.
