Reviews of French Broad Chocolate Factory & Cafe
Gabrielle Rivera
My husband and I initially visited the downtown Asheville chocolate lounge for treats. It was so yummy that on our second trip to town, I scheduled us to visit the factory for a tour. We had a great time learning about the start of French broad chocolates, the process of making it, and a tour of the factory. The tasting was so eye opening! Great time, 100% recommend - especially as a family or date idea. Or if you just love chocolate.

YUM! Went on a chocolate factory tour. Cost was $12 each and took 45 min. Didn't realize so much went into making chocolate. Really enjoyed! Recommend.
Debra DiEdwardo
What a lovely AND informative tour. Our tour guide Rhiannon was enthusiastic and informative. French Broad Chocolate is sourced and created with local responsibility and sustainability. Oh… and the the chocolate… rich, luscious, and perfume of the Gods:) yay!
Betty Ann
Looking for a fun educational way to spend an hour or so when the weather outside is too cold? Maybe think about visiting The French Broad Chocolate Factory and take a tour! Tickets are purchased online - $12 each, which includes a information packed “class” on where chocolate comes from and how it’s made. The first half of the tour was in a sampling classroom. We were given various chocolate samples to savor- kind of like a wine tasting for chocolate! For the second half we followed our guide to look into the factory windows. I was disappointed that none of the machines were in operation- so the actual tour was kind of dull😏
Overall it was a unique educational way to spend some quality time learning something new!
Robert Moseley
Very fascinating place. The tour guide was knowledgeable and professional about the business. My fiance and my daughter enjoyed the tour as well.
John Nolan
They do tours of the factory most days, but on Sundays they do a chocolate tasting as the factory is shut down on that day. The host was very knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to answer any question. On top of all that, the chocolate, especially the liquid truffle, was absolutely incredible.

I can't express how much I loved this place! We stopped by before heading home from vacation and I must say, this should have been one of our first stops in NC. As soon as you pull in, you can smell the beautiful aroma of chocolate wafting through the air. Once inside, there's so much chocolate delicacies to indulge in. I personally bought some chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chips to take home for baking and snacking. One of my favorite (and most memorable) parts of the visit was getting to hold a real cacao pod. I thought that was so cool and so special! It must have traveled a long way to get to the factory since their chocolate is sourced from other countries. Next time we come back I plan on touring the factory and maybe buying that beautiful book about chocolate since I already bought a shirt;) thank you again for a wonderful and memorable experience. I hope to come back soon!
Ronald Paolini
The tour was excellent! Very good review of the entire process from plant to chocolate. The information was presented very nicely. The process / care in making the chocolate was appreciated. In addition the story of the company and the couple that started the company was wonderful. The 10% discount was appreciated. I firmly recommend the "liquid chocolate" drink if you like chocolate you will love it! The brownies were delicious too along with the ice cream.
Heather Brooks
Just the smell alone when you walk in the door makes it worth going. Their chocolates are so good. And everyone who works there is so nice and welcoming. There’s none of the aloof too cool to serve you vibe there. I did the tour a while back with my son school and found it informative and enjoyable. It’s just an all-around great experience for the senses!
Shelley Athari
My chocolate loving friend and I came to Asheville for the very first time and decided to take the French broad chocolate factory tour. I really did learn a lot. I've never seen a cocoa tree pod before this tour. The smell of chocolate pervades the entire establishment and I really enjoyed trying the chocolate. If you love chocolate just book the tour. I can't remember the name of the girl who gave us the tour but she was lovely.
chirpinghouse
Attended the factory tour and got to see their process in making chocolate! You can really see how passionate these people are in making chocolate, from importing beans to using local NC vendors. The co-owner was really nice to step out and talk to the tour, he also shared some prototype chocolates with us! I also tried their golden milk ice cream, it was so good! Mexican drinking chocolate was also amazing. Definitely recommend!
Mary Atteberry
Very interesting tour! The experience is well worth the admission fee; we learned all about cacao beans and how chocolate is made, as well as the differences between various kinds of chocolate. The school-age children on the tour seemed to really enjoy it, too. There was plenty of opportunity for asking questions throughout the tour. The guide is very personable and approachable.
Brett Grane
Very educational tour about chocolate and how French Broad makes the best chocolate around! Our guide was very knowledgeable, informative, and friendly. The samples at the end were so good especially when he taught us how to savor the flavors of the different chocolates. We even bought a sample pack to bring home and try it out with friends sometime soon. Well worth the $$
Sara Roth
The factory tour was absolutely wonderful. We got to learn about the history of both the company itself and of chocolate. We also got to sample a few of their select chocolate products. The tour guide made the story of the company, the chocolate, and the manufacture of their products come to life in a wonderful way. We would love to experience it all over again, and we would highly recommend it.
Andrew Windheim
Nice place. The liquid truffle drink was intense. Factory tour and tasting available.
Laurie Teas
The tour was great and very informative and the chocolate was good. The price of the chocolates were high and I was disappointed that the 10% tour discount didn't apply to mail orders. We were traveling by air with limited luggage space so would have preferred it shipped instead of having to find room in my bag.
Cheryl Zetts
My daughter and I decided to add the French Broad Chocolate Factory tour to our weekend getaway in Asheville. We were very glad we did. The staff at the factory, as well as at the downtown shop location, were very friendly and welcoming. The tour and sampling was wonderful and led by Victoria who made it a lot of fun as well as educational. The chocolates are some of the best I’ve ever had. Highly recommend going to both locations.
Kim Rumley
Our family of four LOVED our chocolate factory tour. Matthew was knowledgeable, engaging, and entertaining. Both the tasting and the tour of each step in the chocolate making process were equally delicious. Highly recommend for anyone visiting AVL and locals who have yet to see behind the scenes of their beloved chocolate factory.
andy tirman
My tour was very well done. The guide seemed interested & invested. The background on the company was informative & made me want to continue to support French Broad. Standing under the chocolate “exhaust” air flow vent was invigorating!
Alyssa Kirsch
We did a Chocolate tour with Victoria and she was amazing! Highly recommend booking a tour and it was great for a bachelorette trip or group event. They also have a coffee shop with tables and free Wi-Fi if you need to work remotely.
Andrea Butler
My husband, daughter and I really enjoyed the chocolate tasting and tour. It was very detailed and fun at the same time. We even got to meet the owner. I highly recommend it. I’m just sad that we purchased a box of bonbons and misplaced them. 🥲 Now we are back home without our delicious and tasty chocolates! …
Jenna Martin
My boyfriend and I were running late for the chocolate factory tour, and at first, the two women at the counter made us feel like an inconvenience and told us we could not join. However, the tour guide, Matthew, welcomed us and added us to the tour right before it started. His presentation style was engaging, and his passion for chocolate and chocolate making was evident. My boyfriend and I learned so much about chocolate by the time we left. This ended up being a highlight of our vacation, thanks to Matthew's kindness. Highly recommend the factory tour!
Bryan Hoybook
CHOCOLATE!! Need I say more? I would have enjoyed more time spent tasting chocolate tho……
B Binney
It was our first chocolate factory tour. Certainly, not our last. We enjoyed the tour which was interesting and tasty. Monae was an excellent guide. It was a great rainy day option. It is well worth the visit rain or shine.
Kristin Linde
We took the factory tour with Gracie - what a FUN and education experience! The information and presentation were super well done and it was really awesome to taste the different types of chocolate and see them being made. I highly recommend this for those visiting AVL and locals like us!
Ellie Franges
Wonderful tour -Victoria was awesome -all the staff very friendly and helpful -the group enjoyed the tour and the chocolates ( which are the BEST!)
Jessica Daily
My husband and I absolutely loved the tour. It was truly quite the experience. Highly recommend doing. You will not regret it. Oh, and our tour guide was fantastic. We had a blast.
Chris Douglas
So dang cool! It’s a chocolate refinery/chocolate bar. They have the chocolate refinery like right in front of you fun fun place!!
SFDS Office
The tour was very interesting. The tour guide did a good job. Great to know you make your own chocolate from bean. Everything we tasted was delicious!
Anna Kelly
We enjoyed the tour and chocolates and learned a lot. It was a great activity as we visited family.
Kathy Battani
Delightful tour and tour guide. We really liked seeing behind the scenes from scratch. Your chocolates are divine. Can’t wait for holiday selection to come out.
Laura Eliel
We were a group of 6. We loved the tour and tasting. The guide was extremely engaging and informative. Welcomed questions and engaged our 4 teenage exchange students.
Thank you
Beth Rubin
The tour and info session at French Broad Chocolate Factory was outstanding! We learned a great deal about a subject we all love (chocolate!), we enjoyed the process, and the chocolate was delicious! Strongly recommend for chocolate lovers!
Jaime Phillips
The chocolate factory tour was great - it was interesting to see how it's made! We got to try a couple different bars and a bonbon. I would definitely recommend.
Maria Guerra
All the way from central Texas and worth the stop! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and educated all of us. Tastings were a bonus but the bigger bonus was a surprise appearance from the owner. I bought a bit more pieces of chocolate than planned. Hee hee!!
ElyciaZgavec
We took the tour as one of our homeschool field trips. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend.
Karena Tilson
What a delight! Our tour guide, Victoria, gave an informative and entertaining tour. Of course, the chocolate was amazing! This stop was definitely worthwhile, and we left with amazing chocolates in hand.
jan tyner
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit! I learned a lot and your chocolate is delicious. I have shared with with some friends and they love your chocolate. Anyone from out of state visiting Biltmore should include this tour. Best of wishes in Atlanta.
Trudy Hopper
Such a cool place. We loved our tour by Jauques. The owners’ story is so interesting. We enjoyed our experience at the downtown store. Amazing cakes!! Can’t wait to return.
Alicia Bickett

Resha Ryan
Loved our tour and and experience at French Broad Chocolates. I enjoyed a cup of Cacoa tea and purchased some to bring home (as well as lots of chocolate bars and sipping chocolate) … and the softest tee shirt! I’ll be back!
Michelle Palladino
My family and I had a great experience! We learned a lot and enjoyed seeing the factory. Highly recommend! The chocolates we sampled were all amazing!
Alex G.
When in Asheville add French Broad Chocolate Factory & Cafe to your Must See places! Take the tour from their riverside location. Learn how the founders are great stewards of the land and farmers that provide their chocolate. Both locations, riverside and downtown, had a line to buy their chocolates so I can assure you that you’ll will Not be disappointed!
Todd Lane
Great chocolates. Be sure to visit the UNC Steam Studio just down the hall.
Carl Fisher
Victoria led an excellent factory tour, starting with a fun classroom session with a tasting, which set us up to understand what was going on in the various steps in the factory tour. She was entertaining, and had answers to all our questions.
John Allen
Learned so much about making chocolate. Very interesting how there are different subtle tastes to the chocolate based on where it's grown and what's grown nearby. The sipping chocolate we had afterwards was incredible....so decadent and delicious! Recommending to all our friends!
Jason Harrison
Tour was informational and the samples helped you learn/experience different types of chocolate. But the actual “factory” tour was ho hum—couldn’t really see the active process, just looked at machines mostly. Products were tasty but expensive.
Denise Meyers
Lovely tour with Jacques, who was very knowlegeable about the chocolate making process. It was mildly disappointing that no chocolate was actually being made but we booked the last tour on a Friday so that might have had something to do with it!
Greg Glaze
French Broad is passionate and they love to share what they've learned with others. As a result, we had a great experience participating in the tour and enjoying some delicious chocolate!
Autumn
Very nice tour. Smells amazing in the factory. Quality chocolates. Interesting to learn about the chocolate making process!
Courtney Culwell
The tour and tasting was educational and fun. The chocolate is some of the best I’ve ever had! Loved it all
Sachiko Morgan
Fantastic! Eye-opening and very interesting. And Monet was the perfect guide. Most definitely worth visiting if you are in the area!
Miranda Lilly
The tour was informative and our guide was very friendly. The chocolate samples were amazing, of course!
Neal Wilkinson
Park in the gravel lot and get out of your car, then try not to go in. Any place with a parking lot that smells this good is worth a visit. The liquid truffle is amazing. The tour is mostly a class and tasting with a short walk around the factory, but it is interesting and you will leave a fan of their chocolate.
Linda Habitz
Great tour. Never knew so much went into chocolate. The tour guide was very knowledgeable.
Robin Frisby
The chocolate was wonderful but very expensive. $3.00 for the smallest piece of chocolate so we only got 1 piece each. They have cookies, pastries and coffees as well. The place is very cute just to visit.
alex green
The Chocolate factory tour was awesome, would totally recommend it to anyone in Asheville. Learned all about how they make chocolate and got to sample different types of their product. They take you into all areas of production let you get up close and personal. Evan was an amazing tour guide and he really made the experience.
Ambrosia W
The tour was very informative and interesting. It's not often you get to see the chocolate making process from start to finish. It was also interactive, we got to see and handle real cacao pods. This is a great tour for tourists and locals alike.
Anna Bradley
We had a great time! The hostess was knowledgeable and fun. The price for the tour is very reasonable and chocolate is wonderful!
Kim Yule and Family
Wonderful way to spend the morning of a cold rainy day! The chocolate and of course the class made the sun come out! Tons of information and very entertaining. I learned alot. Thank you!
Jessica Summers
Learned a lot. So glad we did the tour. The chocolate is amazing!
Ben
Amazing chocolate. Also, a very cool factory and cafe. The chocolate factory tour was very informative and for the science lovers, they go into interesting details on the biology and chemistry of the entire chocolate process from growing to the manufacturing of the pieces you eat.
Traelee Works
Do the tour if you have time. It's pretty interesting and a great way to spend an hour. I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate but really enjoyed the experience of seeing how chocolate is sourced all the way through to the end product. Seeing the employees making delicious morsels by hand is great for kids too. The owner/founder was fantastic and told us about some of the logistics they are facing and plans for how they are expanding the sustainable and responsible business.
Barbara Taylor
The milk & cookies ice cream & milkshake were delicious! Their cookies also. A must get and their caramel chocolates. Serve was excellent. The young lady at the register was very friendly. She recommended a local place to eat and it was on point for my large group. Wish I could give more stars.
Cynthia Fuller
We had a fabulous time touring the chocolate factory. Sara was outstanding. Love French Broad Chocolate. We are looking forward to returning for the chocolate tasting.
Christine Larrazabal
5/6/2020. Enjoyed the chocolate tasting! The peruvian dark chocolate is my fave!
Margaret Finnerty
We (group of four adults) did the chocolate tasting on Sunday, 6/26. Victoria who ran the tasting/workshop was excellent! She was very animated and informative about all the chocolates and the history of French Broad Chocolates. We purchased a variety of chocolates at the end in addition to having some ice cream at the cafe. I don't remember the name of the ice cream (had turmeric, allspice, cloves, black pepper in it.) Tasted just like a molasses cookie. I highly recommend putting a chocolate tasting at French Broad on your Asheville itinerary.
Marie Rodriguez
I try to make FBC a stop on every trip to Asheville. Everything is delicious. Maybe next time I’ll get to take the tour!!! Had the creme brulee, toasted coconut ice cream and chocolate ginger cookie. Great way to support local AND have great chocolate!
John Geyer
The factory tour was great-informative and fun. The tour leader, Rhyana, was knowledgeable about the production and had a wonderful temperament for guilting the tour.
Noah Hernandez
Fantastic desserts, fantastic chocolate and ice cream. If you are looking for something hot they have hot chocolate and a liquid truffle that is amazing. They also have some Gluten Free desserts.
Harry Hoppe
The chocolate is awesome and the cakes are great. We also got a brownie and some ice cream
Nancy Steffa
We went on this tour as part of a family reunion. All 9 of us thoroughly enjoyed this very informative and delicious experience!! Our guide was knowledgeable, considerate and welcomed guest input and ideas.
After the tour, I questioned her about a separate issue I have with melting chocolate. She took the time to walk me through several great ideas and resources, which I very much appreciated.
Kelly Edwards
Our tour guide, and all employees with whom we interacted, were super kind and knowledgeable. I also appreciate the adherence to ADA law regarding service animal accessibility and the gender inclusive bathrooms. Very satisfied and have only been spreading good word since!
Saakshi Gupta
Unless you’re coming for a tour, I’d recommend visiting the Lounge instead of the Factory. We wanted to get both the 6 piece signature box (for ourselves), and the 12 piece signature box (as a gift). They were out of 2 pieces of the signature box and said we could replace with any of the other truffles which we were fine with. After receiving our boxes, they charged us the custom price for both boxes. This was really disappointing because they never mentioned this to us even once while we were selecting the pieces - had they said so we may not have gone with 4 pieces from the signature collection and just customized the whole set. I asked them if they could change to signature pricing and she said she didn’t know how to? Definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth and not because of the chocolate.
The pieces were good, some better than the others. The boxes and wrapping is pretty. The chocolate mousse cup was divine and rich.
Stephanie Schneider
My daughter and I enjoyed the chocolate tour. It was very fun and informative. We are looking forward to when the chocolate bars with the fruit are available. A great way to spend time in Asheville.
Vicman 41
I had the most informative experience with them this morning! From the fascinating explanation of where chocolate comes from to the "flavor shower" and learning how they get the filling in the middle. I'm going to bring a friend next time. Thank you very much!
If you are in the area and want to enjoy a pleasant smell and see "how it's made" this will be one the most memorable visits in Asheville.
Janet Wilson
The guide was very informative. We loved the tour! More samples, please. lol
Luisa Behar-Levy
We were visiting Asheville and took a tour of the French Broad Chocolate Factory. Our guide was very informative, interesting, welcoming and funny and we had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the company who let us sample some new chocolates that were delicious! All in all, great time!
Caitlin Collier
Victoria was an amazing guide! Very knowledgeable and you could tell she loved her job! Inspiring!
Yanexi Romero
we absolutely loved the tour of the factory. It was so informative and the staff were all so helpful. 10 for 10 would recommend to anyone visiting asheville. The tour and even just visiting the factory is a MUST!
Anne and John Martin
Our group enjoyed the tour - especially the tasting part. Tour guide very good and informative. Would have liked to be able to get closer to the production line to see the machinery, etc. A little hard to see from the windows. Definitely recommend.
Janet Bracher
We absolutely loved the chocolate tasting and tour! The chocolate was very delicious and there was the added bonus of meeting the head chocolatier who allowed us to taste test the new fruit chocolate that will be coming out soon.
Chris Colotti
Well we really wanted to take the tour but we had 2 people and there was only 1 spot left. However that didn’t prevent us from stopping by and grabbing a couple samplers to bring back home. We’d heard their history in town was pretty interesting so maybe next time we can get into the tour and hear about it.
Randal Moss
An excellent tour that tells a nice story of the company and how the source their chocolate from their farmers. The facility is very nice and new. Book early and get a reservation.
RichAndGayle Tarkowski
We so much enjoyed the tour-it was educational, interesting and fun-the best part was getting to sample a few varieties of their delicious chocolate!

Susan Valentine
The chocolate factory tour was both lots of fun and very informative. Samples!
J M
Wonderful experience. Very interesting to learn more about chocolate and how it processed and the different flavors from different countries. Tasting was very informative.
I will say go early in the day and not late in the day and I think the factory will be doing more. We were late in the afternoon and it they were cleaning up for the day. But still a really fun place to visit.
kristin burrow
Victoria was very knowledgeable and very kind. We especially enjoyed the coffee nib ice cream! Love it!
Elizabeth Kunetz
thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the history of the company. would recommend it for chocolate lovers
veganmama fourgirls
We really enjoyed the tour. The chocolate is divine! So exciting to see the entire process. Thank you for crafting vegan chocolates and working directly with the farmers to be fair in your trading price and practices. That is SO important!
Liz Murphy
Our tour guide was absolutely wonderful. She was enthusiastic and fun as well as a wealth of knowledge about chocolate and the process of making chocolate. I would highly recommend this tour and the chocolate!
Mike & Karen Kosky
Great tour! Easy parking. I learned more than I expected. Tour guide was super friendly & enthusiastic. Chocolate was amazing - bought several boxes for gifts. Passion for chocolate & all the people and places that make it is apparent here. Good stuff!!
Melanie Smiley
GREAT tour, Victoria was such a fun and informative expert to learn from! The tour itself was interesting and just the right length, the tasting was delicious and was obviously our favorite part. I would 100% recommend to anyone with a love and appreciate of chocolate!
Meagan G
Gracie was very informative, and any time someone had a question she answered it with such passion, making me super excited to learn more. Also, the samples of chocolate were very delicious. Highly recommend the tour and the chocolate!
Rev. Cynthia Jennison
It was a very informative (and delicious!) tour. I had messed up my reservation, and the manager rearranged to accommodate us anyway. Of course, I bought chocolate after the tour! This is one to arrange in advance if you are going to Asheville--fun thing to do.
Percy Rowling
So delicious! The workers are very nice and the tour is very fun to do! Worth it
Sriram Sridhar
A must-visit place for chocolate lovers! Did the free 10 min tour, got to try many samples! Very friendly and knowledgable staff also!
Angela Orebaugh
We had a fantastic time on the tour. We learned a lot and tasted some really good chocolate from around the world. The tour guide was great!
Steve Slate
Great guide and interesting information. Would have preferred to be there at a time to actually watch the chocolate being made. While our guide did a great job, it’s totally inappropriate to have a tip jar put in front of us when we least. We paid for the tour, and frankly, it was a high price for the value received.
Lorraine Sincavage
French Broad Chocolate is worth putting on places to visit while in Ashville and definitely take the tour!
Tiffany T
Best chocolate on the planet. Nicest owners, great story. I get myself chocolates every year from them for my birthday. This year we got their brownies. Oh my, the cocao nibs really make these super tasty and the richest brownies, the best you'll ever have. Thank you FBC!
Julie Friedman
It was an enjoyable informative tour. We were very lucky to have one of the founders, Dan, stop and talk with our group. He was very generous with his time and patient with our questions.
Laura Brown
Great experience! Fun and educational. Rhiana was a fantastic tour guide. And the chocolate was wonderful too!
Jean Marie
Came for the tour and it was very informative and the samples were delicious. Really loved the raspberry best!
Joyce Banker
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour! Gracie was our tour guide and did an excellent job. We learned a lot and have an even deeper appreciation for chocolate now! And your chocolate is wonderful!
Ginger Gorski
So interesting and so so so delicious. I highly recommend the mocha espresso and, of course, the chocolates!!! Fantastic tour guide as well!
Valerie St. Martin
The chocolates were amazing and the staff is very pleasant. The tour was only an hour and was very educational. I would definitely recommend visiting. If you don't have time for the factory or the tour, you have to swing by the French Broad Chocolate Lounge at 10 S Pack Square. The chocolate creme brulee was to die for!!!
E Moore
The tour guide did a delightful job presenting the history of the company, farmers / suppliers and the chocolate making process. The chocolate tasting showcased several different products, all delicious. The tour was fascinating to see the beans go through the process to chocolate bars or bonbons. The guide was very good with the school age children in our group, answering their questions and pointing out things of special interest to them. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in chocolate!
Linda Topp
The tour was fun, interesting, and included chocolate! I learned a LOT about cacao but noticed that the fabulous story about sourcing from farmers that are working environmentally soundly AND that are being paid fairly was not even mentioned. I assume that's still how you're doing things so you ought to include that in the "lesson."
Jerry Haft
The French Broad Chocolate Factory & Cafe located on Riverside Drive is a delightful place to seek out should you be in and around the local Asheville area. I attended one of their tours this past week and learned a great deal about the complicated process of producing chocolate. The factory is unique. They manufacture chocolate from the steps needed to process raw beans to the final product you see for sale. Most of what they produce is produced with organic methods and reflects the outstanding taste of the chocolate they manufacture. The French Broad Chocolate Factory manufactures single-origin chocolate sourced from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru, India, etc. They work directly with local farmers and production methods. These are responsible for the farm-to-table product you eat.
The chocolate factory tour I took was quite educational. It lasted approximately 45 minutes and cost $12.00. The class was limited to 12 people and intermixed a classroom presentation with a walking tour of the production facility. Participants were given chocolate samples as part of the overall presentation. I found everything educational, and I came away with a greater appreciation of the multi-stage process involved in chocolate production.
After the tour concluded, we received 10% discount tickets. You could use these to purchase the chocolate products for sale in their cute factory shop. I decided to sample the hot chocolate from their cafe, the quality of which was beyond reproach. The hot chocolate I tasted was the best I ever tasted and is not something you can get at your local coffee shop. My partner sampled their ice cream and was equally satisfied with the taste. I purchased an orange rosemary dark chocolate bar with pine nuts and can say that the chocolate was of the highest quality and taste. Prices were not inexpensive, but as they say in the business world, you get what you pay.
If you are in the local area, do take the opportunity to visit the French Broad Factory production facility. I think you will come away as enlightened and satisfied as I did.
Ali Hare
Had a great time touring and the chocolates are some of the best I’ve ever had.
Amanda Labella
Wonderful tour guide and great info on the process from pod to bar! Was hoping for a few more samples of the truffles or chocolate flavors, or liquid chocolate in order to have a better idea of what I really liked and what to buy in the store. Also the trays of chocolates blocked some of the viewing area to see them prepare the bars and final chocolate products in the factory.
Kari S
Super enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide. We learned a lot about the the whole process of bean to chocolate and got to sample different kinds of chocolate bars. The owner was walking by and stopped to greet and answer questions from our group. Enjoyed the whole experience!

From the moment we stepped out of the car at the factory we were immersed in the chocolate experience. We could smell chocolate immediately! The tour was informative and enjoyable. Laid back enough to encourage questions and interactions but formal enough to ensure participants felt like they were learning about the business and the values it holds. The tasting of different types of chocolates was interesting (and yummy) and touring the factory made us feel like we were part of the action. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to run into Joe, who spent some time with our group personally answering questions. The best part was eating ice cream and shopping afterwards, of course! Would highly recommend taking the tour. We also stopped by the lounge later that evening as well!
Katie Engel
Highly recommend doing the chocolate manufacturing tour! Chocolate crème brûlée was phenomenal as well.
Shelby Lachmann
So so sweet! My son, 7, and I did the tour with samples. We both really enjoyed ourselves, especially the tasting! Our guide was awesome and we picked up yummy gifts for our friends. It was a cool experience that was as informational as it was decadent. Thank you!
Angel Thompson Broussard
Delicious chocolate. Cool place, didn’t have a chance to do the tour buy maybe on another visit.
Katie Checketts
This was an interesting and fun tour. We got to learn all about the chocolate making process and taste a few of their varieties. Definitely worth your time and a good indoor activity to do while in Asheville!
Jessica Hill
Such an interesting story of the company’s history and learning about chocolate!
Jordan Miller
The lady inside working was really nice and gave us some tips on picking out different items and how to eat different items they sell. We bought $150 dollars worth of chocolate and I find that most of their chocolate requires an acquired taste. Their tea is just simply way too bitter for us and we feel like we wasted our money ( but hey, we're supporting local business so I guess it's fine.) Their ice cream and chocolate brownies are pretty good. Overall great business. I wish we would have got to do the tour but there wasn't enough time. They also sell clothing merchandise.
Zack Meade
My fiancé and I did the tour here. It was a really neat experience and we learned a lot more about chocolate than we thought there was to know! We also got to taste different kinds of chocolate! It was a pretty short tour, but I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something to do and love chocolate!
Kelly Lou
We recently attended a tour of the French Broad Chocolate Factory while in Asheville and it was an awesome experience! We were able to try a variety of French Broad Chocolates and also a cacao bean which was really cool. I absolutely love chocolate so I am glad that I now know the process of how it is made. The tour guide was great and overall I would recommend the tour to anyone in the area or at the very least go check out the cafe and grab some treats, you will not be disappointed!
Kathleen Osta
From start to finish, I enjoyed the experience. I love that the different chocolates were at our places from the beginning . . . building some anticipation and calling on me to postpone my gratification. I am a big fan of the liquid truffle so loved that we got to taste that. And then of course there's all the interesting information about how the company started, how cacao is grown, the relationship building that it calls for and on and on it goes. Thanks much. I will recommend it to future visitors, too.
Ashley Rhoades
Loved the tasting and classroom aspect of the tour. Wish we weren't as rush when touring the factory. It was hard to keep up and understand what all the tour guide was saying. She was very knowledgeable though and I would recommend everyone take this tour!
Christopher Apostol
Very interesting experience. Did the 4 pm tour - only problem was very little work done on equipment - watched more videos. Guide said at that time they were cleaning the equipment and ending the day. May of been more interesting earlier in the day. Otherwise, the tour was very interesting - esp for a chocolate lover!
Michelle Rodriguez
Went there with a family member visiting from out of state that loves chocolate. We had the factory tour and it was excellent. The facilitator was engaging and super cool with kids. We ended our tour and purchased their awesome ice cream as well. We had a great time! Would go back with other visitors for sure.
Diane Rohrscheib
The tour was very informative and enjoyable! Victoria, our tour guide was very entertaining and friendly. She answered all our questions and presented the information in a very BC understandable way! All the chocolate was excellent that we tasted, as well as the coffee and delicious cookies we had after the tour! It was well worth our time!
Miranda Payne
My family and I all went with our 3 younger children (3-8). They did enjoy the tour and the chocolate tasting, the only thing they would have liked more was if they would have read from the book “No monkeys, No chocolate”. They had it sitting on the table during the whole class and then still didn’t read it. Our tour guide was phenomenal! She was very animated and tried breaking things down better for the kids to understand. All in all it was a great time! I would recommend maybe for middle school age and up.
Diane Racette
Very informative, we really enjoyed the tour. Our 4 yr old and 9 yr old grandchildren also enjoyed themselves. Well organized. We would recommend a different speaker system as with all the noise, our guide’s voice did not always carry over.
Tresa Horlander
The highlight of the tour was the fabulous instructor! He acknowledged my 50th birthday by singing to me with his beautiful voice and had the others join in as well!!! Extremely kind and I very much appreciated it!!
He was very knowledgeable on everything and I just wanted more!! He made it so so fun!
However, I felt a little cheated along with others in the tour group that we chose the wrong time to tour. We wished we selected the 2pm instead of 4 pm since all the workers were done for the day and preparing to leave. I’m still confused why there’s a 4pm tour knowing that all we’d get to see is the cleanup process from the day. The instructor acknowledged and mentioned that unfortunately we wouldn’t get to see a lot since it’s late in the day which left us all thinking darn it I should’ve chosen the 2pm tour.
I enjoyed the classroom part of the tour but didn’t get much out of the walking tour because nothing was happening. I would suggest earlier tours when the chocolate is being made and or have someone physically demonstrating each part of the process during the tour instead of just on video.
Also, the noise from the open air cafe was very distracting during the walking tour at the viewing windows of the tour .
In conclusion,
I really enjoyed myself and would recommend to others just the 2 pm tour.
Thank you again
Lisa Neumann
Sarah did a great job and was super informative! We loved the tour and the chocolate tasting. We even got to sample an experimental spring chocolate!! So much fun.
Andrea Connor
Chocolate lovers beware, they pump in chocolate euphoria throughout the building. The Factory tour was great. Tiffanie's first tour and she was great! The whole experience is just what I expected. Very knowledgeable staff and outstanding chocolate. Highly recommend a visit.
Emily Reedy
Oh gosh, so much to say about this place. I’ve traveled the world on a chocolate eating journey. This spot is fantastic. The amazing smell when you first walk in, the tour, the truffle drinking chocolate is an absolute MUST. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!
bob pin (bob)
Found it okay ish. Ashville has so many chocolate stores that you wont stop at just one. I tried a few places. And this was one of them. They also have a chocolate tour, for which you have to make prior reservations.
Scott Marsh
Cool little tour. Kids liked it. My son has a severe nut allergy and they were very accommodating with the tasting. They made sure we got nut free tasting chocolates. Victoria was very knowledgeable and kind. We got some chocolate afterwards to take home and it was great. Great way to support a local business!!!!
Breanne Rodriguez
The tour was wonderful! We got a tour of the factory, got to learn about the chocolate making process and see some of it in action. We also learned about the history of the company and got to taste a few different chocolates at the end! Plus their chocolate is great!
Diane Bentley
Enjoy a wealth of information enthusiastically shared and demonstrated throughout the factory tour and the tasting session.
All will enjoy!
Tamara “Tee” Corley
I liked the tour and it's not time-consuming, only 45 minutes. I do wish the slide show portion could have been a little more professional in terms of setup so our tour guide could move more freely without worrying about tripping over cords and wires. Better placement and more space for her to do the slide show. I think our tour guide was so awesome and relatable. I'd be happy with her again. I feel bad that I didn't remember her name, but I'm not very good with names. The chocolate education was great, and I didn't appreciate dark chocolate until I visited this place. Also the story of the Factory owners is very inspiring!
Lydia Bunner
It was a great experience! Super informative and the chocolate tasting was a big plus! It was super interesting and everything was explained so anyone could understand the process. We also got to talk with one of the founders who happened to be which was great! One of my favorites was getting some Golden Milk ice cream after- I NEED that recipe!
Reign Sunshine
I truly enjoyed this tour! I love chocolate and now I have even more reverence for cacao. What a treat to do a chocolate tasting. I appreciate the quality of the high percentage cacao chocolate. Victoria shared a wealth of knowledge in an enthusiastic and animated way. I love the story of how French broad chocolate came to be. I left infused with the high frequency of cacao :) Thank you to all!
Laura Kania
Veronica is quite the speaker. She was great and knowledgeable of the business. We enjoyed her very much. Thank you for an enjoyable tour. 😉 …
Celine H.
I had gone to their dessert place before signing up for their tasting “tour”. The desserts were decadent and the tasting “tour” was educational and helped us gain more appreciation for their chocolate and tasting the differences between various dark single origin chocolates. We would definitely go back for another tour of the factory and try more of their desserts!
David Mohan (David)
The guide/instructor of the chocolate tasting class was knowledgeable, humorous, and engaging. The explanation of the hidden flavors in various chocolates will help you appreciate chocolate more and their options are delicious to begin with. Absolutely worth trying.
Carolyn Brake
Our tour guide Sarah was amazing. She’s extremely knowledgeable and has the perfect personality for tours. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming.
Ruth RH
Great place, but the aroma might make you overspend :-). I do think they should allow folks to view the production without needing to buy a tour, especially if they’re going to have advertising from the highway implying people can just stop in to see. However, otherwise…great place
Chas Nichols
My wife and I stopped by the French Broad Chocolate Factory while on our honeymoon, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip! The staff was super nice from the moment we stepped in the door. The tour was also amazing - and much more informative than I would have expected. 11/10, if I ever find myself back in Asheville I'll be sure to go again!
Katelyn Sandoval
I absolutely loved the tour. I forgot the gentleman’s name with the light red hair who gave my tour, but he had very detailed information about the whole French broad Chocolate history and involvement with their current runnings today. I genuinely learned a lot of new information and got to see and try the delicious byproducts.
Susan Roberts
Fun and fabulous! Informative tour presented in an entertaining way. We enjoyed the delicious 4 tastings included with the tour. Highly recommend!
Karen Ratliff
Tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting enough, but overall I don't think this tour was worth the money. Perhaps if the cost covered a small box of chocolates, or at least a chocolate bar. I'm glad I went, but I wouldn't bother taking visitors from out of town.
Sarah Weck
I had been to the factory multiple times because I love the treats and chocolate, but going on a tour there made me truly appreciate it that much more! We had an amazing tour guide and we truly enjoyed the experience.
Duncan Evans
We did the factory tour. This fun tour gives an overview of the entire process of how a cocoa pod eventually ends up as a chocolate bar or other delicious chocolate treats. It includes a classroom and chocolate tasting portion plus time viewing the factory production process. It was awesome to see the behind the scenes operations of this company that's very passionate about producing high-quality, delicious products.
Heather Boden
The tour was a lot of fun! We loved hearing the story of the owners and learning an impressive amount about the chocolate making process. We also appreciate the people and positive programs (local and distant) which this business supports! It made us feel good about each purchase we made and each delicious piece of chocolate tasted even sweeter.
John Diaz
Fantastic tour from start to finish. Our sweet guide (so sorry I forgot your name!) did a fantastic job of tailoring the tour to our group’s interest level keeping both the kids (6,8 & 9) and two generations of adults interested. We even got to meet and talk with Dan, one of the co-founders. The chocolate was excellent as well, and the guide and facility followed and exceeded Covid procedures.
Carlithe Layosa
This was a very informative tour. Our tour guide, Victoria, was engaging and fun. Although the factory was small, it was still a big hit with our family. We loved the chocolate tastings, too and of course the discount at the store.
Stephen Allen Jr
The tour was very thorough and informative! Our guide was very knowledgeable and we got to learn from the people who do it every day. Not too long, not too short. A great time and definitely an experience to enjoy. Besides, who doesn’t love chocolate?!
Jessica Kalia
We loved the story behind the chocolate business and factory. And we had fun tasting different types of chocolate. If you are coming to visit Asheville, this tour is a must!
Laura Glassell
Learned alot about Chocolate production. Very enjoyable time
Cecily Worthy
My husband and I came here as a part of our anniversary trip and had the best time. I am more of a chocolate lover than he is, but we both enjoyed learning, tasting, and touring the chocolate factory along with the all around kind, knowledgeable, and fun staff. Would recommend this to families, couples, singles, etc!
Alan Zusman
Great tour. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and was very responsive to questions.
Amber Brown
Absolutely fantastic! Loved every moment. Informative, delicious and super fun.
Brandon Friedlander
The factory tour was fantastic! It was more then “this is how we make chocolate” tour. Our tour guide gave in depth knowledge of how the Company was started, the process they go through to source their ingredients, as well as how the chocolate is made. Do you member the tour guys name from yesterday no I’m writing a review have you found the receipt
Anon Ymous
Very interesting tour and guide did an outstanding job.
Michelle Middleton
The tour was fun and very informative! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and by chance we had the opportunity to talk with one of the owners while on the tour. That was an unexpected bonus! And of course the chocolate is delicious. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Asheville.
CeeCee 62
What a place! We attended the chocolate tasting class and learned a lot about chocolate. Tasting different chocolates from different countries was an eye opener. The flavors offered for sale are very sophisticated. I'll be ordering on line too.
Teresa Fulghum
Loved this experience. Learned so much. Discovered I prefer a darker, stronger less sweet cacao!
Stephanie Davis
We loved our tour. Cassie was an awesome guide who you could tell really loved her job and the company she works for. The "where chocolate comes from" portion of the tour and the tasting flight were a great setup for the actual manufacturing process. Could not recommend this enough to anyone coming to Asheville.
Brianna B.
This shop is beautiful and clean. I did not do a tour, but loved that I could see the chocolate being made as I enjoyed my treat!
Karen Friemel
I have tasted a lot of chocolate in my life but my experience at French Broad exceed every expectations and I left with my taste buds very happy and loaded with goodies to enjoy and share. The tour was so helpful to understand the process from plant to chips/bars/sipping chocolate. I love supporting local businesses and especially those who have understanding and compassion for those people involved in providing the world to be blessed with such high quality and delicious treats.
John DiModica
The factory tour was incredible and would highly recommend to anyone in the Asheville area!
Robert Moore
Strong coffee enhances the chocolaty flavor of the fine French Broad specialty chocolate. We love it!
Connie Peterson
The tour was very educational and informative. Chocolates were excellent. French Broad Chocolates are my all time favorites.
Amy Korobow
Really nice experience. Tour guide was lovely and owner of the company was really cool. Would definitely recommend.
Bobasaur Bex
The chocolate is amazing and the staff is very kind! They also have free samples of certain chocolates. :)
T Surber
Very interesting presentation given by Sarah. We learned a lot about where the beans come from and how long it takes to make a bonbon. The chocolate is delicious and we can’t wait to try the Chocolate Lounge!
Shannon Miles
Our family really enjoyed this. The young lady who lead the tour was very knowledgeable and upbeat. It was very interesting and seeing how they do everything from bean to bar and using local as much as possible was great! The chocolate was delicious!!!
Emily Kapit
We had such a wonderful time doing the French Broad Chocolate Factory Tour – it was educational, delicious, and fun! My husband and I have done a few of these tours with our daughter (6.5) and she absolutely loved this one. The chocolate pipe was a fan favorite (it pipes in chocolate smells; you stand under it and inhale. Ahhh!) and the cafe afterward is a must as well!
Traci Billue
We went on a Sunday to our chocolate factory class. It was very informative. I learned new things that I had not learned on chocolate tours at other factories. It was a pleasurable experience and definitely recommend others to join in. Great tasting.
Genie Gunn
I once toured the original (with a blow dryer rig for separting husks!) FBC factory and I now take great joy in treating my out-of-town friends to an informative and delightful look behind the (much evolved) scenes of an incredible local success story. I highly recommend the tour - you will gain a new appeciation of each bite of chocolate.
richard nichols
When we arrived, are temperatures were checked and we sanitized our hands. Good steps during a pandemic. The lady leading the tour was very enthusiastic and helped make the tour very interesting. The tour lasted 45 minutes, which was a not too long and not too short.
The only thing I would recommend is to have some more tasting of samples.
somechick
My boyfriend got me a box of chocolates from here and let me tell you, they are the best chocolates I've ever eaten in my life. The ones with the liquid caramel inside was like eating pure happiness in food form. I don't know what kind of chocolate I've been eating for the last 30 years, but it was trash compared to the ones I got from here. Amazing. Chefs kiss. 10/10 would recommend
Lauren Ford
The tour was incredible. Excellent COVID regulations, fun and entertaining information, and the whole thing was wonderful from start to finish. We've loved French Broad for years, but never knew about the factory tours! A must-see for any chocolate lover!
Robert Rode
Took a tasting class here; excellent curation and teaching. The confections are top-notch; not a huge variety but what they sell they've mastered. Recommend a visit for any chocolate lover, whether you live in Asheville or are just passing through
Steve Braintwain
Great tour and Eric did a marvelous job of being informative and enjoyable. Answered questions quite well. The classroom portion ( with tastings) was well organized and equipped us well for seeing the factory at work.
Alex
Fun and informative tour. They do a good job giving you an overview of how chocolate is made and where it comes from, followed by a chocolate sampling, where they teach you how to taste it. This is followed by a showing of the different production rooms. In all it takes about 45 minutes and there are of course chocolates, drinks, and snacks to buy in the shop. The staff is friendly and they make the overall experience enjoyable.
Sue Jennings
Our tour guide Eric was very informative and fun. We learned so much and made us want to learn more. My taste buds loved French Broad Chocolates!!
Diane Amos
Tour was interesting and staff very friendly. Great story and organization!
Abelina Sifuentes
We had such a great time here! The tour was very informative while also being interesting. I can’t remember the name of our tour guide but we came on 1-16-21 at 2 pm and she was awesome!! I recommend trying one of the sea salt caramel brownies but you would not be disappointed with anything they offer. A must stop in Asheville for sure!
Megan Tamborini
The tour guide was very knowledgable and had a lot of information to share with us. We enjoyed this very much!
Stephanie El-Hajj
The tour is well worth the $12, but skip Sunday, since the factory itself isn't running.
The chai chocolate bar is incredible.
My go-to shop for gifts for all occasions. My friends & family love the creative chocolates and I love how easy it is to ship from their website. This year alone I've ordered for Galentine's, 2 birthdays, and mother's day.
Krista Beck
I had a wonderful tour at the French Broad Chocolate Factory. I have been a fan for years, but never visited the factory. Beautiful and VERY clean facility. Excellent tour experience I'd recommend to everyone visiting Asheville!
Joe Lewellin
Service is huge for me. This place has the classic over educated, under experienced Asheville service. Spoiled children pretending to be adults serving a demographic which may as well be a flock of kittens sweeping feathers. The chocolate is amazing. The space it beautiful. Heck, it looks like a great place to open up a business.
Brandi Rubeck
Great tour. The tour guide was witty and very informative. And of course the chocolate was delicious.
Mary West
We had a great time on the tour and is highly recommend it! We learned a lot and had so much fun! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and energetic! My kids enjoyed it also and would love to return sometime.
Carol Welch
We had a great chocolate tasting. We enjoyed learning about the history of the company and the chocolate is excellant!
Sally Anderson
Sarah was an amazing tour guide, sharing the history of the company, the chocolate making process and fun tidbits. A must see when you visit Asheville!
Mark Fairman
A fun tour made even better by the energetic tour guide who made the experience worthwhile. It's interesting to see the process of how cocoa becomes the amazing candy that we all love, and even my 16 year old son was fully engaged ( entertaining a teen is the ultimate test). Of course, tasting the chocolate is the most exciting part of the tour! At the end, guests purchase extraordinary treats at the café which is also a major highlight.
Emily K Zielke
Have loved the FB chocolate lounge since it’s days on Lexington! Recently had another great experience with their online shopping staff. The cacao husk tea is so delicious! Thanks❤️
Jennifer Thompson
We took a tour in August 2020, just after French Broad reopened following pandemic closures. They took the virus seriously, which I appreciated very much - lower capacity, masks required, distance enforced. Those measures affected our enjoyment not at all - the tour was really interesting, and we got delicious samples! Our tour guide was equipped with a microphone so no issues hearing her even generously spaced apart. Would definitely recommend for a fun Asheville afternoon.
Meredith Hemphill
French Broad makes wonderful chocolate of all sorts, as well as ice cream, baked goods, chocolate soap, and chocolate-scented candles. Their vegan chocolates are wonderful.
H Tabano
Had the best time- informative, delicious, and Sarah Our guide was absolutely awesome. So cool to see the inside of the business, it’s so intricate and impressive. Definitely recommending to everyone!!
Roland Ratliff
Amazing. Just amazing. The tour was perfect and showed us where the Chocolate is sourced. Everyone was great and the counter service will leave you with a smile on your face! Try the hot chocolate for sure.
Norm Riddle
Visiting the FBCF is a no-brainer. The delicacies are unbelievably beautiful and delicious. The staff are knowledgeable and eager to help. DON'T LET THE VISIT END WITHOUT A TOUR!! Eric is a fantastic resource (you can tell he's a trained educator) and delightful entertainer. We will be enjoying the Cacao Nibs and Dark Chocolate Liquid Truffles for a while!
Crystal Hardin
Our group included teenagers for my daughters 18th birthday. We all had a good time. Our guide was informative and had a great personality. The chocolate is delicious. Very enjoyable.
Franklin Rho
Loved the chocolate, the tour, and everyone working at French Broad Chocolate!
Max Kilz
Best tour of a chocolate factory I’ve ever been on. Enjoyable and educational.
And tasty. 🍫☕️ …
Nancy Narraway
I love chocolate and this tour was very informative. You get to taste test and learn where the chocolate comes from. You then take a short tour of the factory. Our guide was wonderful and the other employees in the factory part were as well. Well worth the time and ticket price.
Lauren V
Called the factory with questions after receiving a holiday gift box. Victoria provided exceptional customer service. She went above and beyond to answer my questions about the ingredients in the chocolates, due to my dietary restrictions. She even went so far as to call me back after researching the ingredients further. We have always enjoyed the delicious goodies and great service from French Broad Chocolate Co.
Jenni Tarango
The tour was great, I can’t remember the ladies name who gave us the tour but she was so fun and informative. Not to mention the chocolate is absolutely to die for! Expensive but worth every penny. Would love to come back when we visit Asheville again.
Michael R
Great Tour! Really learned a ton and it was a unique and fascinating experience. Victoria was a wonderful tour guide!
Deborah Hellman
This was my first tour. I brought my 8 year old granddaughter and a family friend who was 4. both enjoyed it. My granddaughter asked lots of questions so she was following everything the guide said.
Adam Miller
We had a great time trying their chocolate (and ice cream... get the golden milk!) and very much enjoyed the tour and information about their process. It’s a great activity to enjoy during a trip into Asheville!
Hannah Ringler
You will not believe how good this place smells. Much less crowded than their downtown location but with all the same amazing products. I had the rose cardamom liquid truffle and it was delightful - i highly recommend it!
Kaitlin Vahling
We really enjoyed the tasting and tour! Our tour guide was friendly, informative, and fun. I particularly appreciated the short chocolate "class" ahead of the tour, to help understand where it comes from.
Jessica Pyjas
This tour was worth the time and money. We learned a ton and enjoyed the chocolate tour and tasting!
Olivia Bully
The chocolate was delicious and we loved learning about cocoa. Was a little disappointed that on sundays no one was actually working in the chocolate factory making the chocolate so we could see the process first hand. We were really looking forward to that and while the 30 second videos were nice and the tour guide did a great job explaining. It would have been cool to see it first hand and just wish we would have known on sundays no chocolate is made.
Mary Melton-Hale
If you haven't tried this gem, you are really missing out. Of course the hand made chocolate truffles are outstanding but the ice cream has me hooked. The dark chocolate made with coconut milk is perfect for my taste buds. The only way it can be better is to put it on top of one of the brownies.
Ashley Hill
I've never toured a chocolate factory before but this experience was pretty amazing My husband and I had a lot of fun and even though we couldn't buy anything that day it was still fun to get to walk around and see how things were made and it was a very informative learning experience and we enjoyed it a lot. My husband also asked a lot of questions and the guide was very helpful in answering them.
Rudy F
Loved the variety of chocolate options. Will surely go back with family and friends. Can't wait to buy some tickets to get a real tour of the place, but from what I was able to see. All looked too yummy to miss out on. I'll be back!..
kittandnoodle v
Very neat tour, informative guide, got to taste some delicious chocolate! The store is nice too, and the store discount is great. Highly recommend, will definitely come again.
Dennis Murphy
If you love chocolate this is the place for you. Excellent chocolate and service.
Sherry Schlagenhauf
The tour was amazing. I will be back with my family soon.
aurorski
The tour was fantastic, so interesting and informative and we got to taste some chocolate! I would absolutely recommend it.
Shawn Becker
Smelled like chocolate all day after visiting! Stopped in for some Christmas gift shopping to get some family members a little reminder of AVL. Glad I finally made it down to check things out and definitely enjoying the hot chocolate mix I purchased for myself!
Karla Monterroso
Lovely tour. The guide was phenomenal and chill. The atmosphere is great and they seem to enjoy their work. Responsible and thoughtful sourcing. 10/10 would recommend
Jean Braun
This tour is always so delightful! The employees are very knowledgeable, energetic, and enthusiastic about their product and company. During the tour, you will have the opportunity to sample different chocolate and the "lecture" portion is hands-on. This is a great place to check out for locals and tourists alike!
Sara Perez
I love the lounge but the factory seems pointless. It’s a tourist money trap. I’d suggest visiting the lounge if you a selection of chocolate. We went by the factory ‘thinking’ they would have a better selection. It is the factory after all.
Nope. They can’t make a jitterbug and didn’t have 1 truffle available. Just 3 different types of bon bons.
Bunch of coffee & baked goods. Then a ton of pre packaged chocolate, tee shirts and coffee beans. I can’t speak about the tour because I haven’t taken it. I’m sure it’s lovely. I think they should have a bigger selection here than at the lounge.
Carrie Horton
Gracie did a great job with our tour and tasting. It was a wonderful, educational experience for our group!
Sharon Dodson
Great tour! Learned details of the process and saw them in action. Met one of the owner/founders, very personable. Highly recommend if ever in the area.
Will Shirley
Went in and I accidentally created sort of a situation this morning by ordering ice coffee with whipped cream; and there ended up being some technical difficulties which took several attempts for the barista there to fix. I felt bad because she had to have been getting stressed as there were several people behind me waiting and everyone's watching her troubleshoot the whip cream dispenser, which took 5 or 10 minutes, but she remained calm and got it working as fast as humanly possible and thanked ME for being patient. This is a star employee; she's there almost every time I stop over for coffee and is always very sweet and professional! 10/10 needs a raise.
Dianne Benton
Very knowledgeable tour guide! Just loved the classroom feel!!! Everyone was friendly and seemed excited to share their knowledge! We got to sample some really good chocolates! Recommended!!!!
William Bitterman
The staff is friendly and the place is pretty fun! The chocolate is well sourced and well explained which is great. The fair trade prices are very understandable but made it hard (for me) to buy much of anything (after a weekend of gratuitous spending so ok maybe that’s all on me).
The chocolate itself is mostly dark chocolate, going up to 100% cacao. I’m a basic, basic person and “challenging” or “complex” chocolate is not my jam so there was not a whole lot for me there. I did absolutely dig the malted milk chocolate bar which they make with a local malt from a malt...factory? malt producer? Regardless it’s v yummy. They also have a white chocolate with lemon and coriander which I mean come on that’s just delicious yo.
The facility and even the tour, are very accommodating of all abilities, sizes, and genders, complete with “all gender” bathrooms.
All in all, worth a visit!
A Y
Great hidden gem in Asheville. Everyone in our 2-56 was delighted to learn about cacao from bean to bar. Love that they pipe the smell out to the tour area! If only it could be bottled.
Scott Finney
Noticed this other location while taproom hopping. Stop in for the lavender honey chocolate
Joan Carter
I've been a patron of FBC since the days of the first lounge in 1998 until I moved in '02. On each visit to AVL I replenish the boxes I've saved. On this visit, I wanted to go on the tour. It was perfect! The guide was articulate, and I learned how complex the harvesting is (and the processing). All patrons should go!
W01206 FC01
If you have ever wondered how chocolate is made you must take the tour!
Heather Wolf
The French Broad Chocolate tour is a must-do...one of my favorite activities in Asheville. And I'm now a life-long customer...some of the best chocolate I've ever had!
Jim Turpin
Great option to enjoy one of Asheville's favorite chocolate shops without the wait! The Riverside location is a short 5 minute drive from downtown and has a cool laid back vibe. The hot chocolate was fantastic, as was the liquid truffle and the brownie.
Wendy McCollum
Great tour that walks through the process of how chocolate is made. Chocolate tasting included. Was more of a talking description and then you could stand outside the windows and see some of the machines working. Probably not the most engaging for younger children but I enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Chloe Jones
The tour was great. Our tour guide (Eric, I think) was really friendly. A tad bit pricey, but worth it. I really recommend the cinnamon cashew bonbon.
Chad Shaw
We visited on a Sunday to experience their Chocolate class and were blown away by the depth of knowledge and passion for chocolate. Eric is an amazing teacher and great person. The chocolate was divine as well! We will be back.
Amy Levit
Enjoyed learning about the process to make chocolate and loved the little taste samples.
Laura Hogue
I was blown away with how much I DIDN'T know about chocolate. A wonderful, informative and yummy presentation. I would highly recommend this tour. Well done!
Brad Meiser
Holy cow. This place smells like you want to smell 24-7. We didn’t go on a tour or sample any chocolate but we did have some homemade ice cream and a mocha latte and everything was amazing. You have to check this place out!
Megan Adams
We took the factory tour the last week of March 2021. While I haven't done the tour during non-covid times, I feel like the tour may be better right now. We had only 8 people (including my family) on the tour, so we could easily hear and see everything. The tour included a tasting/classroom portion (Yes, everyone wore masks and was temp checked) and a brief walking portion. During non covid times, I know you could walk up and look in the windows of the factory, but that's not open now. The "tour" part really only includes walking around looking in windows, but I'm not sure if there was more pre-covid. I wish we could see more, but I'm not sure there was much else to see. In my opinion, the price aligns to the experience. Friendly, knowledgeable tour guide. Make sure you get a liquid truffle with your discount coupon at the end. It's definitely at the top of my Asheville favorites list.
Mary Pride Clark
Chocolate dipped ginger cookie is out of this world!!!!! Can't wait to try the Chai masala drinking chocolate - comes as mini chocolate chips you melt into milk. Loved the knowledgeable, genuine staff member who helped me today
Willow
We were the first people to arrive for the tour at 10am (we arrived 8 minutes early) and we were told to wait in the lobby and they would call for us. No one called for a tour to begin and the tour started without us. We missed the first 15 minutes, including a chocolate tasting. Apparently the others on the tour had done this before and knew the tour guide so they went off with her. Poorly managed for those of us that have never been here. Maybe it was because it was the first tour and they had just opened or maybe this is a common occurrence. The chocolate was amazing though. Maybe skip the tour and just buy the chocolate.
Thomas Curran
The tour was outstanding and the chocolate was amazing!
Amanda Frick Keiser
We did the Sunday chocolate tasting and really enjoyed it! Informative, entertaining and delicious.
Nicole Ridgewell
My Mom and I were visiting Asheville for a few days and were looking for something "different" to do. We were not let down by the Chocolate Tour. Victoria was very bubbly and knowledgeable about not only the company, but also the actual process of how chocolate becomes what we know and love. I'll definitely be referring my friends who visit Asheville!
Doris Means
Our French Broad Chocolate Factory Tour was very informative and lots of fun thanks to our knowledgeable and energetic guide!! Definitely worthwhile!
And of course the chocolate is fantastic!

Leia Wilhelm
The tour was very informative and fun! They really believe in working together with the farmers and the community to create the best product! The chocolates are delicious and the people are fun. I wish the lounge wasn't so crowded, but I'm sure they're not!
David Hanor
Neat factory to learn and taste chocolate from bean to bar. Lacking Oompa Loompas though
Matt Rasche
Very informative tour taking you back to the beginning of the cacao bean. Their single origin dark chocolate is fantastic. Definitely check this place out and their downtown location.
Maya Mims
The tour was so informative and fun. Addison is a delight! She was patient and funny. The history of this place is worth getting to know. A staple of the community worth supporting for sure.
Amy Reineke
We took the 15 minute tour of the factory and I definitely recommend the longer tour if you have time. The chocolate truffles are wonderful! We enjoyed it so much, we stopped at the lounge downtown too for more truffles.
J C
Great selection of chocolates. Appreciated their vegan selection of chocolates as we have a person in the family with dairy allergies. They did not have the vegan liquid chocolate at this location though.
Michelle Stephens
Neat and fun place! I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the guide was fun, upbeat, and incredibly knowledgeable. Awesome! Would recommend to anyone visiting Asheville....good for kids around 10 and older...awesome for ALL adults!
Jana G
Eric was absolutely wonderful! He answered all questions and was so personable. I’ve learned so much and the tastings were great! I highly recommend The Origin of Chocolate tasting.
L Shepherd
Had a great time hearing about how the company started, how to produce chocolate, watch different steps of the process and sampling a variety of types of chocolate! Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
Jane Webb
Best hot chocolate I've ever had, but pricey as everything else is. They have cacao beans from several different countries that you can sample and a large exotic selection of candies to buy - choose your own or pre-packaged (cheaper). There are also ice creams, brownies, coffees, and even a chocolate wine! Yes, it's expensive (hot chocolate $5, 6 candies for $18, 12 for $28, 24 for $50), but OMG are they amazing! You can also take either a guided or self-guided tour of the factory to see how they make the chocolate from the bean to finished product. The guided tours were all booked for the day, but we'll book one for another day!
Kelly Woodruff
Group of 6 of us went while visiting Asheville, awesome experience! Learned so much about chocolate and the tasting was great. Highly recommended! Bon Bons and the cayenne liquid chocolate were delish

Amfaulk Faulkner
Such a fun experience! The tour guide was fantastic, and the chocolate was delicious!!
Avril James Maynard
The first great impression was the lovely help over the phone explaining the difference between the lounge and the factory. The factory is better if you're in a rush. The next impression was the heavenly scent as I walked in the door. The next best thing was the huge assortment of vegan chocolates! The Thai is to die for. I'm having this shipped to me back home. Please support this amazing company!
Julie Piccirillo
Great visit and tour. Learned a great deal about the cocoa bean and the chocolate making process. Definitely recommend. The chocolate here is delicious.
Kent Shaw
Without doubt, this was one of the best chocolate experiences I've had. Though it should be said, I'm not much of a chocolatier. But the tasting sample was a bourbon flavored piece, and then they had smaller samples from each of their different bars. And these bars aren't just about cacao percentages, they are about individual varietals. Which really made it something to enjoy.
I hate to say that my wife and I kind of went into some other world while we were there, maybe annoying the woman behind the counter. But being around this much good chocolate I hope forgives our foolishness. It was a great visit.
Ron Lozano
Great tour; we really enjoyed it. The address on the ticket needs to be updated….It stated to go to 821 Riverside but the address on the door said something in the 100s.
Terina Plyler
This place is the go-to for a more sober night on the town. They also offer a selection of vegan chocolates, as well as have a few delicious vegan/gluten-free chocolate drinks on the menu. If you are looking for a unique gift for a loved one who loves chocolate, they also have gift boxes available.
Maria R-B
I only had an iced coffee, but it was delicious! The whole place smelled of amazing chocolate 🍫, I'll be back for some of that deliciousness! …
Dave Allison
Not shy at providing samples! (recommend you purchase anyways!!) The tour was delightful - Sunday is a shortened one, which was enough for us). Cocoa to bar factory - supplies from all over central and South America. We were recommended to this company while we were visiting a chocolate factory in Costa Rico, saying this place beat them in a competition a year ago. Delightful chocolates! Yum Yum Eat them up!
Danielle Mazza
We stopped in for a treat and happened to be there in time for a chocolate tour! Everyone was friendly, educational, and welcoming to our party of two. Chocolate was also delicious and I learned they had a chocolate dessert parlor uptown! Wonderful local business.
Susan Reiter
I had some previous experience with the cacao tree in Peru, but this tour expanded my knowledge. Very interesting to understand the process of making chocolate and tasting the chocolate from different regions.

This is where the magic begins... What a fun place! I got a behind-the-scenes tour of how it's all made by fun & always interesting people! I got to go back a few days later & relax in the cafe area, sampling some chocolate, eating some good peanut butter ice cream & looking thru their responsibly sourced clothing collection (need more men's sizes). Much to my wife's delight, I walked out with a big bag of cookies, brownies, 'just add water' chocolate sauce & truffles! This destination factory is a "must do" while in Asheville!

One of Asheville's must visit places because of one word: chocolate. Actually, cacao. One can learn about the ancient ways, contemporary, and modern processes for what the steps of chocolate production entails. Charlie and the chocolate factory would be at home; albeit missing out on his tricks! Let your senses lead you! #auric
