Reviews of Briarcliff Bike Works
Lou is amazing! I was stuck between two bikes and he stayed with me 2 hours after closing and went on a ride with me to make sure I made the right choice. He carefully set up each bike to my specifications before the test rides. You can tell he just loves bikes and wants to make sure his customers have a great riding experience.
I had a bike accident while on the Empire Trail (which is AMAZING)… it was my extreme good fortune to be right near Briarcliff Bike works… the owner Lou was incredibly helpful and prevented me from riding any further on a defective bike. He figured out what was broken, and even took me to the train station so I could get back to Manhattan safely. Really a concerned human being and highly recommended for integrity.
I've been buying bikes and gear from Lou for over 25 years. There is nobody more well versed in the nuanced craft of high end bike building and maintenance. He is a master wheel builder, and his technical knowledge is expansive. Beyond the nuts and bolts of how bike stuff works, he provides the kind of sage advice on component compatibility, best fit/function, and industry info and perspective that you won't find in forums or other media much less other shops.
Purchasing this Ibis Ripley from Lou was the best buying experience I have had yet. This is my 9th mountain bike in 32 years. I thought I knew everything about mountain bikes until I met Lou a few years back. The Ripley blows away my Pivot Mach 6. I did not just get an incredible bike, I got Lou and his unbelievable knowledge, experience, advice and time. If you want to buy the best of the best mountain bikes with the ultimate buying experience, buy your bike at Briarcliff Bike Works.
I had a fantastic experience buying a new bike here recently. I had a good but very old FS bike and have recently been getting back into riding. Was way overdue to upgrade and had done some research and test rides, but I’m far from an expert. Lou is passionate about bikes, incredibly knowledgeable and willing to spend as much time as you want to teach you and make sure you get the bike that fits your needs. No attitude - he loves to explain and doesn’t expect you to come in knowing everything. The shop is unapologetic (and totally transparent) about the high-end enthusiast market they serve. But the prices are fair and Lou doesn’t upsell for sake of it. He helped me spec an Ibis Ripley with targeted and very thoughtful upgrades, which has been a blast to ride. If this is the kind of bike store you’re looking for, this place is worth a drive. The best.
Great experience! This is a shop that is centered on service and making sure you get what is right for you. The owner Lou is super knowledgeable and takes the time to make sure you are happy. They really work with you to get the right bike that suits your needs as well as getting the right size and component package.
I was impressed how much time he took with me to make sure everything was right as well as to explain things I didn't know about.
The mechanic Anthony is also a superstar and has some really good insights as well.
I couldn't be happier I bought my bike here. Really glad these guys are around.
If you want to feel like a mountain bike superstar this is the place to go. Service is one on one and Lou gives you his full time, knowledge and attention to detail for each rider. We talked for a half hour about why I was there and what we were looking at before we even sat on a bike. Once we did he took the time to explain each part. How it changes performance and how to tune it. We did a few laps on the test bike and each time he turned the shocks to my weight and what I wanted to feel from the bike. After about an hour of talking bikes of all kinds. I felt that not only was I buying a bike but I was buying the shop and Lou's expertise and care for each bike. I was happy knowing that this was the guy I'd be able to bring my bike back to and he would have the attention to detail to get it fixed right. If your in the market for a high end mountain bike not much competes with IBIS and Santa Cruz. Head down to his shop to check out great gear great service and if you are someone who wants to buy once cry once and have the peace of mind to know the shop has your back this is it. Thanks to Lou and the team at bike worx for a great experience and a great new bike.
Lu is an absolute angel! He drove to meet me outside of business hours on a Sunday to rescue me when I had a flat. My tyre needed replaced and he brought that too. I live in Brooklyn and was on a weekend camping/ cycling trip upstate - without Lu’s help I would have been stranded. The friendly, fast and helpful service was a lifesaver, and made my weekend camping trip possible! Thank you Lu!
Awesome bike shop!!!too much beautiful bikes to choose from it may you feel like a kid inside a candy store with not parents around 😉 so much knowledge from the owner (Lou ) they ask you what you looking for and help you find the best bike for you. Great people 👏👍 …
I was lucky enough to stumble onto Briarcliff Bike Works and Lou when I was looking for an IBIS Ripmo. My local shop couldn't get one so I went to the web and lo and behold Lou had one in stock. I drove the hour and a half to his shop and picked it up. Lou took the time to set up the bike to my liking and then even more time until he was satisfied with it. I would highly recommend this Shop.
