You know that feeling when you have a barber that you're comfortable with? I was so happy with Marty and curious when he left. Well, the women took over the shop and I get my hair done every other week by Lastacia. She is amazing, the feeling of the shop has always been (and still is) super comfy, prices are very reasonable and so I would highly recommend a walk-in. I'm pretty sure you'll become regular ;-)

I've been going here for four years. Michelle is my barber, and she does a great job listening and being consistent, but the whole crew is chill and does a great job. The business is transitioning to becoming completely women-owned by two of the current barbers, and the space has a welcoming and open vibe. I've seen customers of all genders, body types, expressions, etc., and everyone is treated with respect and inclusivity. I can't recommend this place enough.

Was able to get in same day for a buddy appointment, which is such a cool option to have. Online scheduling is super easy, and Olivia was great. Listened super well, and got me on track to the new hair shape I'm striving towards, and my partner's hair looks great too! They have a fridge with beer, cider, and capri-sun and juice boxes, and a game room with old-school videogames and boardgames from the 90s to play while you wait, and it's super low-key and non-pretentious, which I love. Decor is mostly printouts of Eddie Murphy's characters from the barbershop in Coming to America. Will def be back.

hair is such a personal thing and human relationships even more so. I tend to be fairly fussy on all details, other people less so. But that aside, removing the subjectivity and personal relationship preference - all the staff here are very skilled, and some very experienced to deliver what you came in for. They have the know-how to deliver what you prefer and what actually works for your head m, hair growth and face shape. Which is important ! versus an “always say yes” stylist at other places. So, if you are vocal about your preferences I’m sure the will deliver a great haircut/ hairstyle. I like their online booking system and a neck shave with hot shave cream is part of the deal, which is nice touch. Speaking for men’s cuts, their prices are reasonable and in line with a lot of other wanna be niché yet still chain barbershops. On that subject I also like that it’s “operator owned” - meaning it’s not a chain or some corporation behind them. Thus it’s nice to support a local business. And I feel that the business actually cares more than just the bottom line Book online. get some. If you don’t like having a good haircut or just want to pay more money for a place with a bar and pool table then have fun with that also. The only knock I can give this place is esthetically - let’s be fair as it’s not that interesting, it’s like an old barbers shop stripped of the ephemera. But I think as it gets older it will gain more character and turn into one of those places with loads more character than you can cram in your eyes. The tell tale sign that this shop gives awesome technical cuts is the lighting. Purely functional - bright and well designed to deliver sharp skill cuts rather than a cool bro looking dimly lit mahogany mirrored place with a whafting whisky smell (yeah you know who you are) Hope you find this useful and go there, coming out smiling.

For one of the best styling services around ask for Olivia. She's one of the best. She's been styling hair for awhile and knows what works. She does a great braid as well.

Excellent cut by Lastacia. Male longish layered cut. Lastacia took the time to figure out what I was looking for, made adjustments to final cut on request, caught that I had signed up for a cut that was more expensive than the one she gave me so she charged me the lower rate. Ten out of ten would recommend, will return.

One thing that’s great about this shop is there are several barbers, all incredibly skilled, so if you need a cut on short notice you can just book and go for it. Lastacia saved the day! I got the worst haircut of my life at another shop. I am attending a wedding this weekend and was mortified about how I was going to look in photos. I didn't want to go back to the same shop and have them make it worse so I frantically called Slabtown Barbers to ask if someone could squeeze me in within the next few hours to fix my hair. They were able to get me in a few hours later and Lastacia did an amazing job!! She didn't have much to work with and was able to turn around my chopped hair into looking amazing again. Everyone at the shop had great energy and were very welcoming. I'll definitely be coming back for my next cut. Thank you again Lastacia!

Jamie was great! I switched to a new style — had been growing it out, then got tired of it — and Jamie hit the right balance of asking questions and very tactfully offering opinions. I’m really happy with how it turned out! On a logistical note, I had an appointment, and we started right on time, which was great. The whole shop also takes COVID precautions seriously — masks on the whole time (barbers and clients), seats are well spaced apart, and the space is pretty big and ventilated.

Michelle is AMAZING. I moved here about a year ago from the east coast and was in search of a new barber. I had a few mediocre cuts before booking Michelle based off of a friend’s recommendation. I’m pretty particular about how I want my fade done and she nails it every time, I couldn’t be happier. Her precision and talent matched with a warm and friendly spirit makes for the best experience. This was my first time in and made an appointment for a cut using their website. Scheduling was simple and user-friendly. I arrived to a clean and spacious barber shop with kind barbers that greeted me. After washing my hands (per their covid protocol), I sat down with Ron and started talking like we knew each other from another life. He knew exactly what I was describing for the cut I had in mind, and eventually offered a few extra trims I haven't been offered at other barber shops in town. I'll definitely be back and am glad they are a part of the community.

This is by far the best barbershop in town. All of the barbers are super friendly and you can’t get a bad cut; I think by now all of them have cut my hair at least once, and I have been satisfied each time. Ladies, don't be shy...barbershops aren't just for guys. I have an undercut and Bridget did an awesome fade with a touch of artistic flair, and for my long hair did a clean cut. I highly recommend letting her create, she does great work.

I was in a pinch to get a haircut on a Friday evening around 5:30 PM in preparation for a two week Marine Corps training I'm going on. Being the son of a perfectionist barber (who lives out of state), I'm very particular about my hair and who cuts it. I also prefer a straight razor being used for the base of the fade and that's few and far between around the Portland area. I called Slab Town Barbershop and Marty answered. He said their last appointments were at 5:30 and then asked where I was, I work fairly close and he told me that if I could be there in 10 he would cut my hair. Slab Town Barbershop is an amazing shop, the atmosphere is awesome, location is great and it's really the only shop I've ever felt 100% comfortable getting my hair cut in. Marty did an excellent job with the straight razor and fade, didn't rush even though it was close to closing time and I enjoyed the whole experience! The haircut was very reasonably priced and I wasn't charged extra for the straight razor. Everyone around this area should at least check them out once! Thanks again Marty! I'll be back :)

The folks at Slabtown Barbershop are the best. After trying out a few salons and shops around town I finally found someone who gets exactly what I’m going for and does it with finesse. All the barbers are highly skilled and very chill, but Branden is my go-to. They’ve also got delicious coffee, a variety of beverages, great music and old school video games.

There are two reasons I hate getting a haircut, one is waiting for at least an hour once I've already arrived, and the second is the barber not understanding what im explaining on how I want my hair cut. Well Slabtown Barbershop did neither of the two, and for good reason they have many 5 star reviews including this one from me. Michelle did an excellent job on both me and my 5 year old son, we were both done within 45 mins of walking through the door, and to top it all off the prices are very fair, especially the father-son special. Brandon has been my barber for over a year and I had to follow him to this new spot that he opened up. I've had the freshest fade since I started getting cut by Brandon and get compliments on my hair all the time so it's totally worth it. Shop is owned by two really friendly guys and I've always been able to get the cut that I want when talking to Brandon, even when I drastically change my mind and go for something totally different. Another sweet place to come and get a great haircut in the NW neighborhood. Marty was awesome and gave me a good clean cut with a nice fade. The feeling I get from this shop is not that of your hipster can’t wait to work somewhere other than Bishops or that of A-Very-Not-Rough Cuts, but instead it feels like the kind of barbershop you enjoy hanging out in for a while and drinking a complementary beer or juice as you realize that maybe it’s okay I’m about to spend $30 on a haircut, because with inflation, the cost of this beer and the ridiculous price of housing in this city, these folks are really just getting by. So yeah maybe I should learn how to cut my own hair and save $400 year, but in the meantime, these guys are a great option if you are in the area and want to support an honorable trade.

I get my cuts from Michelle here at Slabtown (or anywhere she is). There are only three things certain in life- death, taxes, and only Michelle can cut my hair. I've let my hair grow to an absurd length over this quarantine instead of risking another barber. Her cuts are perfect, she takes her time and is very precise with her lines and fades. The best in Portland, hands down. Started with her 2 years ago and never looked back, never will!

They say "the cheap man pays twice." Yeah, this ain't no SuperCuts or Fantastic Sam's, but a good haircut is worth a million bucks. It's $40 for a haircut/beard trim combo: worth every penny. It helps that whoever cuts your hair is friendly, the environment is clean and relaxed, and you can have (probably) as much free coffee, la croix, or booze as you like.

Recently moved to Portland from Brooklyn and this is the best barbershop I’ve ever been to. Shoutout to Lastacia (an owner), Mariah, and Olivia for phenomenal and personable service and always top-notch scissor cuts. They clearly display their support for trans clients, people of color, and intersectional inclusion. Great products at reasonable prices too. Can’t say enough good things about Slabtown Barbershop, I get my hair cut more often than I used to just so I can come in!
