I've been coming to Ruben's shop for over two years and his barbershop is the best in town! I no longer live in the East Village, having moved to Hamilton Heights recently, but I always make a point to come here to get my haircut. They offer a free beer with your haircut, great hair wash with scalp massage service. If you want to get your haircut, have a few laughs with the friendly staff and customers, this is the place to come!

East Village Barbershop is the best barbershop I’ve been to in a long long time. Ruben is brilliant. If barbers are great listeners, Ruben is the epitome. He will engage you, make you feel so comfortable, and understand all that you want in a cut, and even more about you, in no time at all. You see, Ruben is a true master, he hears you wholly and cuts, trims, fades your hair and your beard in ways only possible because he sees you when he hears you. You walk in, he is already listening. Truly my favorite place to get a haircut of all time. I’ve probably gotten 12 haircuts from Ruben over the past 2 years, and every single one has been excellent. The barber shop is right next to me in the East Village, and it’s strikingly easy to walk in and get a cut. East Village Barbershop is hands down my favorite barbershop in NYC! Ruben, the owner, is the most charismatic (not to mention talented) barber I’ve encountered so far. When I step into his shop I feel like a friend, not a customer. Before COVID I would get my haircut and be in there for an hour longer just talking with Ruben and the other customers. Amazing experience here, my friend wanted to come here yesterday to get cleaned up and received the best haircut of his life. I didn't even think I need a haircut, or at least I thought, but really hit it off with Ruben. Found the barbershop on Instagram and saw the amazing work that the owner does cutting hair in the photos posted online. Ruben the owner and my main barber is super cool and easy to get along with. Ruben is the best and this barbershop is an awesome experience. It combines good haircuts with a good atmosphere. Be prepared for a few zingers and jokes but it's what gives this place it's character. Ruben is the business owner and lead barber but what makes it great is that all of his guys are just as good. In addition to listening what it is that you want, they'll make recommendations to improve your cut. Highly recommend checking it out.

Ruben is absolutely fantastic. First off,his devotion and love for what he does show each time that I see him;this is true not only for myself, but for all his clients. It is also amazing how Ruben remembers each client's desires for their cut. In terms of the actual haircut, all I can say is that when I leave from his chair, the haircut is flawless and amazing ; the same holds true for my beard. Beyond that, the barbershop is friendly and welcoming and Ruben is an awesome and funny guy. I am moving in a few weeks and my first google map search was for how far my new place is from the East Village Barbershop. It is also amazing how Ruben stayed late to give me a haircut because he knew that I would be having surgery the next day. If you are looking for a true master at what he does and want to look great , go to EVB and ask for Ruben. Trust me, you will thank me.

My experience at east village has always been exceptional. It took me almost four months to find a good barbershop on the area and now I send all my friends here. The lively atmosphere and friendliness of the staff is bar none. Reuben the owner prides himself on his amazing work and holds his team to the same standard. My first experience was great starting with the beer when I walked in and ending with an amazing cut. Since then I only come here because of the work. Reuben might as well be the mayor of the neighborhood because not one moment ever goes by without someone stopping in to say hello or him knowing everyone that walks by. He makes an amazing effort to know about everyone that comes in and remembers everything even if they only came once. This shop is truly a call act with some of the best cuts in the city.

Amazing service. I feel at home here! I recently moved uptown and still make the commute down to the east village for my haircuts every two weeks. Highly recommended for anyone who cares about their appearance. What I love most is that they actually take time to cater to the customer's request as opposed to other barber shops that hurry to get you out. In my opinion, a haircut is a personal experience specific to each customer and should be treated like one. Definitely not an assembly line like feel in this place.

I found this place while walking a couple English bulldogs down the block. Ruben, the owner, stopped me immediately to ask about the dogs. We casualty chatted for a bit and I quickly noticed that he and this place are super laid back. Ruben loves his customers and every time I'm here, it's obvious they love him back. I've had my hair cut by 4 different barbers now. All experiences have been excellent. There's an unusual paradox that occurs when I get my hair cut here. Normally, my hair cuts look good for about three weeks. Then they lose their shape/form. The cuts I get here keep their form for over 1 month. Which means I don't have to get my haircut as often. So they lose business because their cuts are so good and last so long (just kidding, they stay busy). Definitely recommend these guys. PS: they give you a free Corona every time you walk in.

Ruben and his entire team all do a great job, so you can walk in without an appointment and never have to worry about having to wait for the one barber you like. $25 is a steal for the quality and attention to detail you get, and it comes with an (optional) free hair wash and beer. Found this place 3 years ago when I moved into the neighborhood. Ruben the owner is the absolute man and always has a smile on his face and a joke to tell. Even when I moved uptown I kept traveling to EV Barbershop to get the most consistent haircut in the city. I've since moved back to the neighborhood and this is still the only place I would ever think of getting my haircut. The hair wash and free beer makes you feel right at home and a great way to unwind from a long day at work. If you're looking for a great haircut experience, definitely don't waste your time anywhere else. This place is legit and will always have you looking your best. Also the Layrite product is all natural and will have your hair looking like you stepped right out of the chair and styled by the legend Ruben himself.

I followed through 3 different shops in Queens and now into Manhattan. The haircut you get will be the best cut of your life. At East Village Barbershop you get an old fashioned hit shaving cream and straight razor finish and a hot towel with menthol rub around your whole head. This place is top notch. If you're looking for a barbershop you just found the last one you have to look for.

Absolutely amazing place... Once you enter its a warm welcome, Ruben (The Hulk) is funny and is probably the best barber I have had the privilege of meeting in a very long time! Besides the amazing haircut, you will get a sarcastic-comedy show and a ice cold beer! What else can one ask for! It's hard to find a trustworthy barber, especially when it comes to Asian hair. But Ruben is exceptional! Before he even cuts, he visualizes how the cut should be done and how to make it to suit your needs. I came in with a ruined haircut and he completely redesigned and redid my look. Tried several different places for about a year until my wife found this place on Instagram: @eastvillagebarbershop Since then, I’ve been visiting East Village Barbershop for two years now and would not go anywhere else. It is a great atmosphere; the entire team is highly talented and attentive. I've never had a problem with a cut there and feel I come out looking the best compared to other shops. The location is pretty good, I live in Jersey City Downtown and it takes me 30 mins to get there and it is definitely worth it. The pure attention to detail and level of care given to every customer has earned my business for the future.

The haircuts are consistently very good (I get compliments on my haircut constantly) but the real joy of EVB is the hospitality. Reuben, Julia, and a rotating cast of characters care about the people in the chair- they do good work because they want you to have a good haircut, not because "it's their job." I live a couple blocks away from East Village barbershop and I've been coming here for the last two years. It has a reputation in the East Village for a great haircut and a unique experience. You'll love it as long as you're willing to check political correctness at the door. It reminds me of the restaurant "Dick's Last Resort", where the waiters put intentionally insulting things on people's heads. Ruben, the owner, gives you a beer and then will mess with you while you're getting your haircut so much you'll forget what political correctness is. He's a great guy, super open, and the more you get to know him the more he messes with you. All the barbers do an awesome haircut and the price is great. I'm moving soon to Brooklyn but I'll keep coming back as long as I'm in New York.

After trying out a handful of "top barbershops" in Manhattan, I finally came across East Village Barbershop. I've only had my hair cut with Lana and one other gentleman whose name I unfortunately don't know. Lana is fantastic! She listens and produces exactly what I request. She takes her time, minding the details, turning a simple haircut into a great haircut! I don't ask for anything extravagant. Just a fade or short all around. But she makes my hair look great. Honestly, probably the best looking fade I've ever gotten anywhere! I've tried a few "top" shops in Manhattan and have been thoroughly disappointed. When you walk in you are greeted by all the barbers. Everyone is in good spirits. You are asked if you would like your hair washed, which I have yet to partake in. And you are asked if you would like a complimentary beer, which also I have yet to partake in. The whole staff is very warm and friendly. Reuben is a great owner as he interacts with everyone. He asks everyone's name. Tries to get to know you. He has a great big sense of humor and he will definitely joke with you. So if you're shy, be ready to interact a little. I'm a little shy myself but I appreciate the lively atmosphere. Reuben is cool as hell though and his humor will keep you on your toes. You may just have yourself a few belly laughs, which is always a good thing! I definitely have!

I've been to the East Village Barbershop about three or four times now, which is a record for me when it comes to barbershops in the city. As someone who has not fully accepted the fact that his hair is on its way out, I've become picky about how I get it cut so I don't look like an idiot. And the run of mill barbershop hack job does just that. But not EV barbers. Straight razors, hot towels, attention to detail--all contribute to a really solid cut that I'm not afraid to show in public. And not only will you get a grade A cut, but you'll also be treated to banter that sitcom writers couldn't script on their best days. This time I even got a San Pellegrino Italian soda while I sat in the barber's chair. Hell yes.
