I drive downtown just to get my hair cut here. If you’re a guy looking for a Euro-style hair cut I couldn’t recommend Barbershop Lounge and Danny more.

Some barbers are down to chat for a long haircut while others are quiet & efficient: either way you'll get an amazing haircut here. You get to feel just the right amount of pampered but not overwhelmed or too bougie. Cash tips are preferred here.

I started going to Barbershop Lounge when I moved to Boston for Grad School. I have been very impressed. Rosa, my stylist, puts every effort in to make sure my hair looks the best it can look. I have never had a stylist pay so much attention to detail, and have such knowledge about things like head shape, growth patters, etc. She has done an outstanding job. In addition, the Barbershop Lounge facility and atmosphere is great. Everyone is very nice and professional, it's in a great area on Newbury street, and the price-point is very reasonable considering the absolute quality.

I've been to the Barbershop lounge twice and both times I went, i had the privilege to have Bo as my barber. Bo is very professional, charming, and knows how to get the job done. The place itself looks vary professional and well organised and the atmosphere is very welcoming. It is a very unique styled barbershop with many different barbers working in there that specialise specifically for different haircuts. It was very useful to book an appointment on the website, and once arrived to your haircut appointment there is no waiting in line. Again, the service has always been great would definitely recommend for people looking fro well-done haircuts.

I am writing this review from my girlfriend’s account. I came in as a walk-in for a men's haircut consisting of a taper with a front hair line-up and 1 inch trim for the top. Heather's trimming was outstanding, and taper was decent. However, the line up was atrocious, as she cut all the baby hairs and pushed my hairline back. I’m assuming this barbershop does not cut curly haired customers frequently and thus it showed with the lack of skill and understanding for how a line-up should look.

I’ve been going to Barbershop Lounge for almost 14 years. While I’ve had several different stylists over the years, not one of them has disappointed. Heather, Rosa, and Karen have all cut my hair and I always leave entirely satisfied and feeling like they know exactly how I wanted it! The booking process is easy and straightforward, the shop itself is welcoming and comfortable, the shampoo afterwards is something I wish I could come in for every day, and I’d wait weeks to go back instead of trying any other place. Simply put, they are the best!

I got a very clean and professional done skin fade by an amazing barber, Heather Brown. I will not lie, this was the first woman barber to give me a hair cut and I was blown away with her skills and professionalism. She knew that going into the cut and made sure to reassure me with showing her work as she went through to make me less anxious. I started working on Newbury St. recently so I wanted to find a new, better barbershop than where I was going previously. I stumbled upon the Barbershop Lounge and started going to Rosa. She took the time to thoroughly analyze my hair, how it grows, how it lays, and even the shape of my head to completely restyle my hair for the better. I’ve never had a stylist nearly that caring and thorough. As she put it nicely, it looked like i was wearing a toupée before, and she was right. She took so much time and was so thorough, even going back to the chair after washing to get it perfect. I went home and got compliments from everybody - my hair was cut the way it should’ve been for a long time. I just recently had to get a last minute cut, and since Rosa didn’t have times available, I took a chance with Bo. Bo gave me a PERFECT cut as well, sticking to the same exact style that Rosa had laid out for me before. As a bonus, Bo is really into motorcycles and cars like myself, so we had a great conversation and got along really well. In conclusion, it seems you really can’t go wrong with any barber or stylist here. But Rosa and Bo will definitely give you an amazing cut! Yes, it’s expensive… about twice what i would usually pay. But it is Newbury St. and I do get a perfect haircut everytime… beats paying less and getting a cut i’m not happy with.

In particular, Master Stylist Rosa Layman provided the best first time consultation and haircut I have ever received (over the last 10+ years across 5 major cities). If you’re looking for a great balance between the skill of a stylist for scissor cuts, while maintaining the details and shapes known from barbers around the sides and back - the Barbershop Lounge (and Rosa!) need to be your first stop!

Hi, I’ve moved to Boston 4 years ago from NYC and always have been a big fan of Barbershop Lounge since I came here. I’m still a member of John Allan in Manhattan and that it is a membership that cost $750 a year with unlimited access to the open bar, haircuts, manicures, pedicures, massages, playing pool, watching sports on the flatscreen, smoke cigars in the cigars room, etc… Most importantly very personable, hospitable and extremely nice staff!

Barbershop Lounge is one of the best places to get a haircut around the city. It took me 6 months to find a barbershop once I started working in the city but now, I won’t go anywhere else. While I am sure all the barbers are top notch, because Dan runs such a great business, Maleena is my favorite. I have been going to her for over a year and my cuts are always the best. She also has a great eye for haircuts and is always down to run with whatever idea I have but adds her own flare to make it work even better. Also the vibe from her is perfect when in a chair for an hour. She is super chill and you can have awesome conversations while getting your cut or she will keep it low key if you aren’t feeling it that day. All in all, amazing business and I don’t know where I would go for a cut this good without Dan and his crew!

I've always been disappointed in the results of my haircuts until I came to the Barbershop Lounge. Dan does a great job with my hair, which is gradually thinning on top, but still gets long and curly. It's always been a challenge for other barbers/stylists to work with until now. Dan also thoroughly understands the science behind hair growth, and educates his customers on how they can get better results or achieve what they're looking for. The atmosphere of the shop is inviting; They take my coat and offer me something to drink as soon as I step foot through the door. and the waiting area is comfortable and relaxing. He was able to give me a clean shave and offer great advice as to how I could improve my skincare. I have been getting my hair and beard taken care of by Maleena at Barbershop Lounge for about one year now. I can’t recommend this place highly enough! I’ve been in various shops in and around Boston for about 10 years now and this is by far the best. Booking is a breeze; the aesthetic and lighting in the shop is unique and inviting; everyone there comes across as genuine and friendly; and they’re just all about executing on your desired look. I usually get a fairly high and tight fade but we have experimented a bit with different lengths and gradients, all very much to my satisfaction. I’ve been to other shops where I’ve been frustrated that my barber doesn’t quite get what I’m asking -- this has never once happened at BSL. At times I wear by beard pretty full and I’m constantly changing up the proportions -- Maleena really excels at delivering on whatever whim I have when I walk in and she does it with care and diligence. I am happy that you have stumbled across this review because you now have a great haircut experience in your future 😉

Honestly just the right spot. It's got the city atmosphere mixed in with that old school barber vibe right down to the straight razor. Consistently clean cuts, modern styles, friendly convo, and good advise on how to change up your look and maintain it. Great little spot tonstop in for a trim or when you are looking for a regular place to go. Always super friendly and knowledge with translation of odd requests on how you like it cut. Taffy is my go-to and always matches my behavior (talkative vs not) and often remembers what I get my cut like. She also had no problem helping with my requests for easier maintained hair, better for summer/winter, etc. Location is not hard to find as long as you are looking for it. Not sure why other reviews had such a hard time. It's basement level right next to a little market on Newbury. There is a small putting green out front a lnd a pretty clear sign. They also put out a A-frame sign then the snow allows for it. I will say I don't live the over all "we cut men's hair as women so we dress with sexy attire" mentality. I think it makes sense as a business model and I'm certainly not saying anyone is dressed like a stripper here but it seems to be a pretty bad gimmick for more tips. Not all the stylists dress that way either but it just seems sexist to me since everyone seems knowledgeable and very perfessional. Highly recommend this place if you need a regular place where they remember who you are, can cut hair well, speak english, and can almost always fit you in around your schedule.
