Most fantastic bread in all of the surrounding areas!! I was shocked because I thought they were more of a sweets bakery, but when I saw they had bread, I had to try it, and I was in heaven! I have not had bread like this since I was in Italy. Their butter crust bread is terrific to pull and eat just make sure to let them know you don't want it sliced!

I know most people in STL like Donut Drive In, but I love the donuts, cookies, and other baked goods that Federhofer's provides. It always tastes amazing, and the prices cannot be beat. The employees are always patient and friendly. My go to for anything baked!

Ordered a bridal shower cake; turned out very nice. The buttercream icing tasted like the "old time" wedding cake icing. We had a lot of compliments on the cake. Everything these days is all about cupcakes. Glad we chose 1/2 sheet cake!

I love Federhofer’s and spend lots of money here. My grandma is going to be 85. It’s her first birthday in an assisted living. She specifically asked for a Federhofer’s cake with all of the flowers on it. She has Alzheimer’s and this is probably the last birthday she will remember. Imagine my disappointment when I went to order and was told they will be closed for another week in August. I was told I could pick it up the Friday before and freeze it but I don’t have a deep freezer. I appreciate taking care of your employees. I really do but now I have to go to Schnucks and pretend whatever cruddy cake they make is okay. I’m just trying to make my grandma happy. Maybe consider cutting your hours back instead of taking weeks off every month.

Stopped in to check it out and what a cool local bakery! Scarlett and the other young lady up front today(7/18) whos name i did not catch were both very professional and friendly. They answered a lot of my questions and you can tell they know their stuff instead of ad libbing a response. *They make and decorate all of the items in the cases *Make custom cakes as well as sell pre-made *Amazing customer service * Skilled decorators for their sweets. Almost too pretty to eat

First time trying this place since I got a stale stolen in 1991. I decided to try an apple stolen this time around. It was not stale!! Very flavorful and packed with apple! So I guess a 30 year boycott is now over!

When I found out how expensive wedding cakes could be - I was appalled. I looked all over the internet at national vendors and was honestly taken aback and considered not even doing a cake. That was when I remembered Federhofer's - a little local bakery that my grandpa would take me to on Saturday mornings after my sisters and I stayed the night at my grandparents' house. I reached out to Federhofer's and found out that wedding cakes didn't have to break the bank. My grandpa passed away from cancer in 2018, and having Federhofer's do our wedding cake was an incredible homage to him. He had a huge sweet tooth, and that was his favorite place. On top of sentimentality and affordability, the cake was delicious. My mother-in-law even ordered dessert for the rehearsal dinner from Federhofer's, and it was such a huge hit

Very welcoming, friendly staff, and smells AMAZING! I don't know where to even start, but hands down some of the best donuts! Classic feel inside and out thats makes you want to keep coming back for at least the smells. They're currently making STL Blue's jersey cookies, so of course I got one. Worth the 20 minute drive for me, would definitely recommend checking this bakery out!!

Whenever I want something special for friends I go to Federhofer's bakery. I bought some Halloween cookies today. They are always very friendly and helpful and their bakery is clean. It's a great place to shop.

There is a reason Federhofer's has been in business for over 50 years! This place is the real deal, so don't miss the opportunity to visit and pick up some delicious bakery products or use them for a special occasion. I offered to get a cake for my grandson's first birthday, and I wanted something special. I searched for bakeries in St. Louis could make specialty cakes, and I thought I had a vendor selected. My initial consultation with them was fine, but due to the difficulties I had getting the vendor to return calls and getting the order finalized, I lost confidence in their ability to handle the order. I found myself with less than two weeks to find another bakery to make the cake. I called Federhofer's, and without hesitation they said they could fulfill the order. By the next day, the order was finalized and pick up date and time was confirmed. When I arrived to pick up the cake, it looked just like the design I requested, and I was so pleased! But, because the cake was a two-tier cake, it would not have transported safely to its destination in my car. That's when Federhofer's really came to my rescue. It had been pouring rain all morning, and I knew nobody else was available to help deliver the cake. Federhofer's wanted to make sure the cake arrived at its destination intact, so they loaded the cake into one of their cars and followed me to my daughter and son-in-law's home nearby. Talk about customer service!! The cake was not only beautifully decorated, it was absolutely delicious. Their buttercream icing is the best I've tasted anywhere, and the cake was rich and moist - just perfect! In addition to the tiered cake, I ordered a small smash cake as well. That, too, was just perfect! I can't say enough good things about Federhofer's. It will certainly be my bakery of choice whenever I need baked goods or something for a special occasion!

I grew up in St. Louis and every special occasion called for a cake from Federhofer's. Sundays, it was peanut coffee cake and of course, holiday pies. I live in California now and mom & pop bakeries like Federhofer's are nonexistent. I still have an uncle that lives right around the corner from Federhofer's so when his 91st birthday snuck up on me I thought, what better gift than a birthday cake from Federhofer's? So, I called and explained my request to the person that answered the phone. She said they do not deliver, she didn't know how much it would cost to hire a service and told me they probably wouldn't provide the service anyway since I'm "across state lines". Like she doesn't know about internet commerce...really...across states lines? I digress... Since you could literally throw a rock from Federhofer's and hit my uncles house, I asked if I could pay someone there to drop the cake off to my uncle on their way home (I looked it up on Google maps and his house is 0.2 miles away). She told me I could not. I certainly hope the baked goods have not changed in quality like the customer service has. I must say I'm pretty heartbroken and if I told my uncle (which I won't) he would be heartbroken too since our family has been enjoying Federhofer's goodies since they moved into the neighborhood in 1966ish. The 3 stars are for my memories of the baked goods.

TL;DR - great German and Dutch pastries and high quality, affordable cakes made from scratch. Wonderful bakery with high quality products. Though their French pastries are good, their rich and buttery Dutch and German treats using seasonal fruits are what makes it worth special trips at all times of the year. Additionally, the smaller layered cakes I've ordered were expertly made with a beautifully even and delicate crumb topped with smooth buttercream. On top of that, their basic 8" two-layered cakes that can easily serve an average family will only set you back around $20. At that price point, budget-conscious families can make those special occasions even more special.

Unfortunately st. Louis has lost a lot of great bakeries. People are going to grocery stores for their baked goods which makes no sense to me. Federhofer's has been around since I was a little child and I am 66. I think they have some of the best cakes and Pastries and cookies that I have ever gotten in my life. I love this place!

It is a decent bakery. I drive by it daily. The only thing I have gotten from here that I thought was less than good was a pumpkin gooey butter cake and after finding out my son paid 11.00 for it.... I was sick to my stomach. Not from the cake.... From the price for a nasty cake. Everything else we have ever gotten was good.

This is a very traditional bakery and I just love it. Everything I've gotten has been great. In particular I'm a big fan of their custard filled puffs. It reminds me of cream puffs my aunt made as a kid. We ordered cakes for my son's first birthday and my nephew's fourth birthday. They did a fantastic job

This is the only place in Saint Louis I can get a strawberry stollen. However it is seasonal and not available as right now. They have baked bread, danishes, not just cakes. I like to go here to get a stollen or danishes for my morning coffee... But they also have decorated sugar cookies for Halloween. They really have a big selection of decorated cookies. They also had donuts and different pastries. I have to say though I have never order a cake for an event from here yet.

The staff was really nice. The customer in front of me seemed to have an issue with her order. It seemed to be resolved to the customers satisfaction but that did cause me to have a bit of a wait. My order was correct and was surprisingly well priced, definitely compared to my normal bakery. Most important my cake tasted good. I wish I had gone early morning to get fresh donuts.

First time here, came in on a friend's recommendation. So glad I did. This was just the old school bakery does it right. I got some stollens (1 to keep and three to give to family as gifts) and a loaf of French bread. Everything was wonderful and everyone raved about how good it is. Will be heading back next weekend and as often as I can going forward.

absolutely delicious! Tried a loaf of bread and their apricot danish! Lets just say, I was sad to take the last bite out of my danish and the bread is amazing! The bread had an amazing crispy crust and super soft inside! They cut it fresh for you, or leave the loaf whole for you if You'd like. They had a huge selection of cakes, donuts, muffins, cupcakes, rolls, and breads. I know they do custom cakes as well. There was a worker there named Vincent who was very sweet, helpful and passionate about the baked goods and their quality. I am impressed and I will be back. Bring cash if you plan on spending less then $10, $10 minimum on all debit/credit cards.

Good old fashioned German bakery. Huge selection. My favorites: custard puffs...difficult to find these days, and these are some of the best I've ever had. They also carry a small selection of wrapped gluten free blueberry and banana muffins and brownies. My gluten free girlfriend says they're the best she's ever had. Almost forgot: In room 4 cup coffee maker, not the nearly useless 1cup type...I do like my coffee! Also, they have instant hot water in the sink and shower so you don't have to wait for it.

Absolutely love this place! For years my family frequented a different , very large & popular bakery in South County, but their quality slowly started changing over the last couple of years. I decided to try Federhofer's and was blown away! Everything tastes super fresh and reminds you of bakeries of days of yore. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. One of them helped us design a special Harry Potter cake for my daughter when we couldn't find a design that she liked. Their cheesecake is to die for! It's made in a short, long rectangular pan and they sell it in large portions. Every time I go in, there's a huge variety of cakes, cookies, pastries, donuts, you name it!

This place has some of the best desserts in the country. Highly recommend to anyone in need of a bakery. I regularly pick up cakes for friends and family events out of town and they are always asking for them again. They also can be affordable for any budget. For my 21st, they made a double decker roulette wheel and customized it with a casino theme. They do really great work and if you've never had them, give them a shot.

I just want to say thank you to everyone at Federhofer's. I had to make a last minute order for a birthday cake. I had gotten sick and was no longer able to make my son's birthday cake with all the party prep. They did such a wonderful job with the decorating even though I didn't give them a ton to work with. My son loved the cake and all our guests enjoyed it.

I searched for bakeries that offered strawberry shortcake and found that several bakeries did not offer strawberry shortcake. I found Federhofer's bakery through an online search and saw on their website that they offered speciality angel food cakes along with a variety of other items. I was impressed with the variety of desserts offered and also with how very reasonable the prices were. I inquired at Federhofer's bakery if strawberry shortcake was offered. The staff were friendly and informed me that they offered a strawberry whip cream torte, which is quite similar to the taste of strawberry shortcake. I purchased the strawberry whip cream torte and was very pleased. The torte was delicious and the serving size was satisfactory and exceptional.

Their pies, cookies, stollen, and breads are all excellent! So fresh, and so good. When I walk in the front door, it smells so good...just like bakeries when I was a kid, in the 50s. The staff is always so helpful and accomodating. And the quality of ALL their baked goods cannot be beat!

Picked up a small cake and some cookies, they were pretty good. My only complaint is having a $10 minimum charge for using a credit card. Seems a bit high. I didn't have any cash on me and I just wanted the small cake at first but I felt like I had to buy something else (the cookies) just so I could get the cake. Please lower your credit card limits. In the age of Covid most people aren't carrying a lot of cash and sometimes I just want to buy something small. Thanks.

Whether it was a Saturday morning and we were going home to watch cartoons, or dad was giving my mom some peace and quiet, while we went to Queeny Park and had a donut holes picnic or stopped by for a couple delicious coffee cakes to complete our Sunday morning feast... This bakery never disappoints, the cakes are so good. The frosting is delicious without being super sugary. The decorations are beautiful. I picked up a cake for a party at work it was wonderful. I have never gotten anything that was not beautiful and delicious from here.

Since this was my first visit we tried many things. Creme horn, Apple strudel, lemon cupcake, chocolate cupcake, cherry turnover, and cinnamon raisin bread. The bread by far was the best. The puff pastry semlled greasy and as a family of four (3adults) the desserts ended up mostly in the trash. The counter person was nice and helpful, but the two others working seemed task focused. Every bakery has a niche, maybe the bread was theirs. Probably won't go out of my way make a trip here.

Federhofer’s had baked my husband’s birthday cakes since he was a kid, so we chose them for our bridal shower and wedding cakes last fall. Both cakes were delicious – we got lots of compliments from our guests. The bakery had a photo book full of ideas, and both cakes came out exactly like the photos I selected. A word of warning if you’re throwing a Saturday evening wedding – we had to pay extra for a “late” dropoff around 4:30, and they said they wouldn’t have delivered any later in the day. They were also a bit particular about their requirements for setup and dropoff. But, they set up the cake topper for us and everything looked great in the end, so I’m still very happy to recommend them.

Recapture the wonder of Christmas, go to this place! I would give them more stars if I could. My mom always used to bake German Anise Cookies (Springerle) every year. I tried baking some myself last year, but it was a long involved process (you air dry them overnight before baking) and mine came out a bit dry (a couple of slices of apple in the cookie jar soften them right up). My brother has been hinting lately that he wanted some more, but I just haven't felt like repeating that process. Today we tried a local grocery store, with a German sounding name, but they didn't have any today. I asked the Bakery person if Federhofer's might have any. She said they might and that they just run over to Federhofer's if a customer puts in a special request, so I decided to give them a try. As soon as I walked in the door I finally felt the Christmas Spirit that I have lacked up to now. The pastries were beautiful and I wanted to try every one. I felt that childlike sense of wonder that I haven't felt for a very long time. They had Springerle! and Grinch Cookies and caramel apricot Danish pastries that were almost a DayGlo orange (in a good way), and baklava. I had to grab just a few things and leave before I emptied my bank account. And the customer service was great. A tradition for 53 years. I don't know how many times I have driven by Federhorfer's with out stopping. I have only been back in St Louis for 2 years after being away for a long hiatus. I have a vague memory of stopping by a few times with my mom. I won't make the mistake of driving by without stopping again.

Love this place. Living in northern Illinois it is impossible to find Springerles at Christmas. Called Federhofers Monday & arranged to pick up 3 dozen today when I came to town for Christmas with my kids. Stopped just before 3:00 today, parking lot jammed, bakery full of people holding little numbers, thought this was going to take forever but I grabbed one - #90. They went from 83 to 90 in less than 10 minutes and I was out the door. Everyone was very nice, smiling, ringing people out & wishing Merry Christmas as customers left.

My family has lived in South Central Missouri since before the Civil War so when we think of "the old country" it's either Kentucky or Virginia. Going to Federhofer's the first time was a pleasant surprise. While the family bakeries back home have closed, Federhofer's is still going strong. And their baked goods remind my 80 year old father-in-law of the breads and sweets his mom used to make before and after WWII drove them from their home in Yugoslavia. Sweet dreams impossible at Walmart, Sam's or Kroger happen every day here at Federhofer's.
