Reviews of Mee Sum Pastry
Kevin Chau
Mee Sum Pastry is a staple in Pike Place serving Chinese savory and sweet pastries. We ordered the chicken shrimp chive dumpling, crispy BBQ pork pastry and the beef curry pastry. All of them were delectable but my favorite was the beef curry one. It is a little pricey though as each pastry was about $4. Definitely a must for anyone visiting Pike Place.

Green tea sesame balls for life! I scoffed at the idea of the flavor while waiting in line and decided to try anyway. Took my first bite and the gods corrected me where I stood--it was so damn delicious! The crust, the chewy dough, the heavenly filling! Forgive me, Lord, for ever doubting Mee Sum.
The line also moved quickly, thanks to the efficient staff. If you're a fan of Asian/Canton pastry--you have to try out this place.
Sarah Alexander
The Hombows at Mee Sum are legendary, period. Definitely try both the Curry Beef and the BBQ Pork if you can. You truly won’t be disappointed. They also have other fun pastries and dumplings you can check out. Beware: Lines are almost always long! Check @AWorldOnMyPlate Instagram for Seattle based content.

We visited Pike Place during weekday and off-holiday season, very pleasant indeed, no queues for several outlets. We tried the BBQ Hom Bow, Mini Moon cake without yolk. All are delicious, especially the BBQ pork hom bow freshly from the oven. Crispy bread with fragrant and juicy pork filling. Mooncake also has flaky skin and not too sweet lotus pas paste.

After reading a few reviews that highly recommend stopping at this place — we did. And it was good. TIP: Go next door to Truffle Queen and order some wine to taste. This will allow you to sit at the umbrella shaded tables and send someone over to Mee Sum Pastry to grab you a curry beef hom bow.
The sweetness of the bread works really well against the beef curry on the inside of the pastry. So good!
Apologies for the half-eaten food photo - I was almost done with the hom bow before thinking of taking a photo.
Alexis Morales
Was my first time going and I can’t wait to go back soon! I ordered winter melon and sesame moon cakes. I liked them both but I want to try them without the yolk next time, either way it still tasted great! I also ordered a Chicken hom bow, not my sip of tea but I will try the bbq one next time! The service was great, the had a long line but handled it quickly!

Pretty great pastry shop with a good variety of authentic Chinese pastries. We ordered the bbq pork hon bow, the red bean sesame ball and an almond cookie. The hon bow was fluffy, light, and delicious. Will definitely be returning for seconds soon.
Chelsea Hoang
Pretty meh foods. We got the BBQ pork Hom bow, pineapple bread and curry beef cone. Only the pineapple bread was great. The rest was super sweet and really did not have much to offer. Won’t be back.
Aryan mobiny (OneOfYou)
I tried both the bbq pork bun and the curry beef bun and they were both amazing. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the bbq pprk bun as it is more flavorful. The buns are slightly sweet which is typical of asian buns and it makes it even better for a breakfast bite.
Jb Chiro
Picked up a BBQ pork hom bow (baked pork bun) for $5.00. It was delicious. There was a short wait in a queue to order, but service was fast. Overall the pork bun was well worth any wait.
Violet B
Everytime I drive through Seattle I have to stop here! The curry beef hom bow is NOT to miss: spicy on the inside, sweet on the outside. You'll regret getting just one, so get a couple for the road and don't miss the bbq pork hom boa, steamed or baked. Either way, you can't go wrong. The bbq pork on a stick is always delicious. Waited in line for a few minutes, service was efficient and buns are already made for you but are definitely fresh. Love this place!
duoqisun
Great Chinese snacks and pastries. Egg tart was good, normal sesame balls, and green tea sesame balls were not oily and still crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. BBQ pork was a bit tough but tasted good.
Benja
My go-to spot when I'm hangry after running errands downtown. Pork bun and a couple shumai are the perfect afternoon snack. Quick, easy, and delicious. What's not to like?
Y K
Bring cash! Had average hopes for this touristy spot, but was pleasantly impressed by the pastries. Steamed bbq bun was sweet but I still really enjoyed them. Sesame balls were 💯 and the pineapple bun was dense but light/fluffy. Prices are pretty good for the value of baked goods. Would definitely pick up again when in the area. …
Garrett N.
A staple in the market for humbow and many other buns and pastries. We already get the curry beef and chicken mushroom humbow, which are fantastic, but really need to branch out and try some of the other offerings!
Steph D
Really fast and friendly service. I had the vegetarian spring rolls and they were great. I just wish they had more veggie options. My partner had the BBQ pork bun and absolutely loved it.
mukund
No pics. Ate almost everything up even before we left the parking garage. We always get the curry beef and bbq pork hum bao. Inexpensive and generous sized fillings. We also got a read bean cake and red bean sesame ball to share and they worth it. Love this place.
K Haverty
This is where you get your pork bun happiness! These were a steal at $15 and 100% worth the wait!
Kassie T
Efficient service, great prices and delicious fresh buns. The coconut bun was good but wasn’t that special. The pork bao was quite good and even a usual bbq pork bao hater actually quite enjoyed it.
Ben Jams
BBQ pork hom bows are the best along with their shumai. I always visit this place when I'm at Pike Place and sometimes... I even visit Pike Place just for this place. I always order more than I need and it's amazing...
Pictured here are the steamed bbq pork buns which are good but tbh I think the baked ones are better.
Stephen Lewis
Quick service and was fresh every time.
The coconut pastry was incredible!
Feb
I really like the BBQ Pork Stick and BBQ Bun here, highly recommend! I also got a Salted Egg Yolk Red Bean Pastry which was great, not super sweet in my opinions, but the egg yolk was a bit dry and flavorless.
Melanie Tam
Good but not worth it. Each bun is $4 a pop. We decided to get the BBQ pork (since we wanted to see if it was any different from a bakery roast pork bun) and the curry beef hom bow. The BBQ pork was slightly better than a $1 bakery bun but not by much. The curry beef was really good. But again, not sure if it was worth it for $4. I’m glad I tried it but probably wouldn’t come back if I were to visit Seattle again.
M L
This local gem has the best bbq buns I’ve had outside of Hong Kong. The lines can be long but if you come early in the morning, you’ll be able to snag two for about $7.
Mert Okyay
Wow, this is one of the gems of Pike place market. I heard about it from the locals and I'm so glad I visited. Don't let the long line intimidate you, it goes really fast. I had their BBQ bun and I must say, it was surprisingly good. Bun itself is super soft and fresh, BBQ pork inside was just phenomenal. If you're walking by make sure you get one. They accept only cash for purchases under $5.
Krist Louis
While negotiating the mass of life that is Pikes Street Market we ran into this warm and yummy Hum Bao place. We each got something different: a vegetarian, bbq pork, curry, traditional pork, sesame roll. It was delish! We will visit again next time we come through Seattle. A little goes a long way. Totally worth it, 4 of us for less than 20 bucks. Enjoy.
Aaron Simpson
Best steamed buns I've ever been lucky enough to have. Had to come back two days in a row for the curry bun.
AJ Jay
I was a little skeptic thinking its just another Chinese food joint, boy was I wrong! The curry beef hombow was amazing & I wish I could have bought 1 more! I don't eat pork but that's their best seller so I could only imagine how that taste! Gotta get "Mee Sum Pastry"! *corny drum roll please*
Jason W
Amazingly tasty, perfect snack for someone roaming the market area. 100% recommend for anyone who likes 粤/广式早点.
Nice selection of buns, 芝麻球, dumplings, all the goodies. Recommend the curry bread, sesame balls, and everything else.
Jonathan Mathews
GREAT PIKE PLACE MARKET FIND. ALL MY FAVORITE CHINESE FOODS TO GO. GREAT SELECTION AND FRIENDLY STAFF.
Aurora B
Trusted the recommendation of some food blog I’ve forgotten the name of. And yum! So happy I did. A bit of a burn on my Scandinavian palate, but balanced with that sweet cracklyness on top 👌🏼 …
Lucy Mui
Went to this place after reading about them on one of those best of Seattle list. I got the beef curry pineapple bun and it was just ok. I’m Chinese and have had my fair share of good pineapple buns in the past and the one at Mee Sum lacked the sweet thick pineapple bun crust that would have made it better. Also it was way overpriced compared to stuffed buns you can get at a regular Chinese bakery.
Na_Suwattana
Echoing all the praises of other comments. I went back as often as I could during my trip at Seattle. My favorite were BBQ/Red pork on the stick and BBQ Hom Bow. But everything we got there was so good! When I arrived early there was no line at all. Definitely nostalgia for me as a Chinese descent ^__^
melody betancourt
Delicious pastries. I got both sesame balls. So good! Wish I could bring them home
LLL
…..This place have really good 菠萝包,but the customer service just horrible…. So I ordered the food and told them I want to Apple Pay. The lady literally grab my phone and took it away and walked away to do it herself… might give another try but won’t let them take try if they improve but will not let the lady take my phone again. Scary lady
Polyanna Marcos
I don’t know how to rate it. We didn’t love it but maybe bc we were expecting something else?
Place looked clean, lots of options and quick service.
Andrew Lee
I've been to the Mee Sum in the U District but I was at Pike Place recently and decided to try the location there. The Pike Place location is a walk-up - no seating available, but it's not a problem. I was there a little after 8am on a Sunday and ordered a steamed and a baked BBQ pork hom bao. I really enjoyed both of them. The BBQ pork was rich and sweet in both buns. Both buns were also very big and could be a big snack if walking around the market. I liked the baked BBQ pork bun more but both were great options. Mee Sum has a lot more options, so next time I'm at Pike Place I may stop by for more.
Bobbie Murphy
My partner and I were in Seattle for a concert and thought we would walk around pike place market beforehand. We hadn't ever explored seattle so I looked up some places to try foods at and this one was highly talked about. We found it while exploring, and I already knew I wanted the BBQ pork bun. We got one to share, and regretted that instantly because they're so so good. This was a couple weeks ago and my partner still brings up the pork buns and how he wants to go back out to seattle just for those! They're absolutely delicious. 10/10. Next time I'll be trying out more of what is offered here, but just know, the pork buns are amazing!
Victor Bilgen
The beef curry hom boy was crispy and tasty. Definitely worth the wait.
Lawrence Bailey
Must stop at Pike Place! BBQ pork Hombow and Curry Beef Hombow. These were great! First time trying this. Loved it! I wished I could have ordered more things but we were full!
Rider Forseth
The hum bao's here are awesome, especially the bbq pork ones. (Some people call them pork buns). They are always cooked just right so that the meat is hot and the breading in light and fluffy still. Everytime we come to Seattle we make sure to stop here for the hum bao's. There is usually a line but it moves fast. There prices are great and they do have a variety of other baked goods for sale as well. The staff of always polite and friendly. I highly recommend this place to everyone but especially if you likes bbq pork.
Mark Phillips
Best Bao Bun I’ve had in a very long time. Glad we stopped here.
Nga Huynh
The curry beef hom bow in a pineapple bun was AMAZING. The bbq pork one was flavorful I prefer the curry beef. The gigantic almond cookie was just ok.
Heliana Mano
I wasn't super impressed honestly. Tried the pork stuffed bun and the vegetarian one. The vegetarian was pretty sad and the pork one was ok but too sweet for my taste. I guess I am not a big fan of the pastries, I usually rather go for a seated down dim sum place.
We went on a saturday at lunch time, line was moving pretty fast so that was great!
Amy Paris
Love the bao buns ... Very large size so we each just get one .. love the beef curry and the traditional bbq too
Thomas Lang
Delicious and well priced asian food! Highly recommend the bbq pork hombao, sesame red bean paste pastry and shrimp shu mai!
Barely Alive
A must stop shop when I visit the public market. One of their curry beef hombow hits the spot every time though I'm yet to try anything I didn't like. Great fast service and good prices make this my favorite place to eat in downtown Seattle!
Christopher Trudeau
A must see while visiting Pike place market. Always extremely fresh, they are so busy you'll most likely get a bun that was recently baked. Baked or steamed they have both options. Grab it to go and enjoy the view of the Puget sound while enjoying a delicious BBQ bun. The red bean sesame balls are also delicious.
Celeste Mader
My family has come here for many years. Very consistent quality, my favorite spot for dim sum food's without the crazy high prices. Very nice help and service as well
Ornwara Tritrakarn
What a gem! Ever since I moved from Malaysia to the US, I've been missing this kind of Chinese pastry. This place feels very nostalgic. I had beef curry bun here. It was good. Wished they have smaller size as the piece way wayyyy too big for a snack. Anyway, I like the place. It was a good find during my trip in Seattle.
Julia Hustler
Hum bows, pastries, shu mai, and more. All quick street food. Decent prices. Been going here for 30 years. A market staple! Enjoyed the shu mai last time, four is a meal 👌🏼 …
Andre T
This place is great for Chinese pastries to go. The hom bow/char siu bow eaten fresh was delicious. Siu mai and the lotus pastries were great as well. Stopping by early will mean less lines too. A great institution to check out if in the area :)
Genevieve St. Charles
Best best best best. How is food even able to be so good?? Dayamn. Get the humbao.
Evan O'Brien
Fresh, hot, BBQ pork humbow.
What are you waiting for? They have meatless stuff, too. The flavors are all pretty wild to my hick American pallette, it's great! The roll is so soft and warm, the balance of sweet and salty in the sauce is perfect, for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can't go wrong with this place.
A sweet tooth helps, though 😉
Rick Trimmer
Everything here is great! If you need a suggestion on where to start. I’d go with the steamed bbq pork buns and a order of crab Rangoon.
Marco Lim
Wow!!! I came back after 10 years and didnt realize how good this is. Plump amd most delicious buns I've ever tasted
Moe Fienberg
BEST PORK BAO BUN EVER! Must get at least 2 of them for the maximum amount of satisfaction. Just yummy all around!
Andrew Jaru
One of my favorite quick bites at the market. Their pork buns are sweeter than other dim sum bakeries, but it's a flavor that works well for them
Curtis Himel
It was good, but nothing superlative. We focused on dim-sum type items like shu mai (meh), shrimp and chive pan fried dumpling (meh), sweet bean sesame ball (good), baked BBQ pork puff (best thing we tried), and a BBQ pork skewer (fine).
David W
I love this place. Reminds me of my time in Hong Kong. I look forward to eating here every time I get to the market. I also bring friends that visit the city here to try their hom bow. The sesame balls are also huge and my favorite treat. Green tea is my new favorite flavor. Definitely stop here if you are at the market. The line goes fast and you won't be disappointed.
John Mabbott
I have been eating this hum bow, especially the curry beef since they were 86 cents each! So, it's been a good 40 years and it remains one of the most satisfying meals I have all year at any price!
Rachel D.
I spent some of my childhood in the bay area where my family would frequent Chinatown for weekly grocery shopping. We always stopped at the chinese bakeries to enjoy a treat. My favorite were always the steamed buns and since moving to the northwest had yet to find any just as good until I came here. This place is legit. Anytime I pass by the market I make sure to stop here and get their buns and other baked goods like their sesame balls. Delicious!
Jose L De Leon
This place is no joke….one of the best takeout places in the country. I travel the country as a profession and I can safely say, everytime I go to Seattle, I go to the Mee Sum Pastry for the Hum Brow, BBQ steam bun and Siomai
Fantastic
Haik Dabaghyan
Pretty good place to pick up some dim sum or pastries in the pike place market. When I visited there was a short like to order, the ordering process was easy and simple. The dim sum I received was fresh and tasted high quality. Be aware though, the prices are very high. You can get the same or better dim sum from the international district. If you are in the area, it is easy to recommend this place.
Ayon Ibrahim
Well-loved for good reason. Delightful place to get a bite
Severiano Gomez
I lived in China for 10 years and I have been to Hong Kong over 20 times, this is as good as anything there. Excellent pastries. Especially the 叉燒酥 probably the best I have ever had. Pineapple bread was great and I don't even like pineapple.
Ganesh Kumar
The Shu Mai was cold & salty. So, do not recommend. But the Hom bow was pretty decent. The bun itself was top notch but the bbq pork filling was okay-ish and tasted artificial. Skip.
Bradley Marshall
Beef Curry Hom Bow! Amazing! You have to try it! All the other food is so good as well and cheap!
Michael Kopf
We got the red bean sesame ball it was outstanding.. I highly recommend it.
Jennifer Arnold
Mee Sum is hands-down my favorite place in the market. I've tried almost everything and have never had something I didn't like, but my favorites are the curry beef hom bow, the green tea sesame ball, and the chive, shrimp, and chicken dumpling. They're also a little bit slept on, so the lines are usually shorter than the other staple places, and they're cheaper. The staff is always friendly (and they've even sometimes slipped me extra for tipping). Definitely don't miss this place if you're visiting, and if you're a local, go get addicted like me!!
Mikayla Lynn MacPherson (En Lil Sin)
I love this little food stand. Their Hom Bow are amazing, with my favorite being the curry beef Hom Bow, the perfect balance of both savory and sweet. They have other offerings as well, but as someone who works in a store very close by, I often stop by to grab one for lunch.
10/1/ recommend
Trey Holliwood
Its in a prime location and has a good variety. I got both steamed and baked pork buns. Baked were better than steamed. The steamed were just a little dry. I’d still go back but I’d get the baked only.
Ian Doxsee
The best baked goods at the Market! BBQ pork hombow was generously stuffed and the curry bun was super flavorful (unlike the curry option from another, popular-popular bakery nearby).
Molly McWaters
The sesame balls and the coconut rolls are divine. Absolutely worth the $$$.
Jason Dare
Was weary to pay $4 for a Chinese bun but got the Chicken Hombow and it was well worth it!
Scotti Hill
I am such a huge fan of this place! A must when visiting Seattle. There is simply nothing that compares in my home state of Utah. Such a wide variety of flavors and offerings. My favorite is the red bean bun.
saparsh hakhu
I have tried multiple things on their menu but the only thing that stood out was the sesame balls! Rest is avg!
xerxesranderia
Since I was around I decided to try out the venue. There was a small queue and when it was my turn I was told the beef Curry Hom bow was not available so I tried the pork option which was not so good. For about 5 dollars a piece I expected more filling and better taste. It looks big but it's quite hollow on the inside. It's ok to try out I guess doubt I would visit again.
Brandon Garcia
First time visiting and I purchased a moon cake, it was alright. Might try something different next time, but for now, not really worth trying out.
G C
Awesome BBQ pork buns at a reasonable price. If you are always on the go, this is a great place to pick up yummy pastries.
Akash Bajaj
We ordered the chicken steam bun and it was average.
Keying Chen
Egg tarts: 3/5
Zongzi: 2/5
Sesame ball: 5/5
Pricy compared to regular dim sum place, but understandable for its location at a tourist hotspot.
Katie Greer
We ate here three times it was so good. The dumpling with shrimp, chicken, and chive was out of this world. Loved the hom bow as well. It’s a big fluffy roll/pastry that is soft on the inside and slightly crunchy and sweet on the outside.
Christopher Pierce
They've been selling baked and steamed hum bao, bbq pork sticks, buns, and rolls from this stall as long as I can remember. Everytime I'm at the market I have to get the BBQ pork baked bun. It became a weekly habit when my job moved just up the street. They have another location on the lower level inside the market as well. I don't know any food vendor that has two stalls at the market... Not even Starbucks has two stalls there!
Karina Sanchez
I had a pork bun and it was pretty good. Nothing that impressive but still good. The staff was not the friendliest.
T C (TCasey)
We really love the pork buns I also got a curry beef hom bow I usually get the vegetable it is the best. They were all very good the curry spice was just right we also got a bbq pork skewer and coconut delight . It's a great quick bite for a reasonable price, when people complain I'm like look around your in the heart of Seattle enjoy it! Btw there were 4 of us a d 8 pork buns 2 beef curry the skewer and coconut delight was abot 55$ with tax, we took 6 home.
Dick Nicholson
Have loved this place for years! Slightly sweet puffy rolls baked to perfection, stuffed with either Chinese roasted pork or curried beef, and totally delicious. Go there and eat, and you will thank me.
Visage LaRue
This place is my absolute FAVORITE spot in the market to stop for a quick bite. The food is authentic, and I highly recommend the steam buns, pork or chicken. I live about 5 minutes from the market and as a native, I can honestly say that this is a market treasure! The staff is courteous and kind, and they make almost everything in house! Anytime I have guests from out of town I always make sure to bring them here for a treat!
Karen H
I really love this place since the moment we tried it! The BBQ pork humbao and red bean buns are AMAZING, they're big portions for around $3 depending on what you get.
we were heading home and it was a long car trip, we had bought out all the ones in the case at the time, it was around $50 for 14 buns,
These buns are delicious!
Jennifer Troy
Small but very popular Chinese bakery in a charming location across from Pike Place Market. I ordered curry beef hum bao. They are huge, filling's very tasty and the pastry was delicious with a slightly sweet crumb topping, baked to fluffy perfection. There were quite a few other selections of sweet and savory Chinese treats. Great place for a snack if you like Chinese food. Moderate prices.
Jacob Pankanin
Always grab a hombow or shu mai when your in Pike Place. Been going here since I was a boy. Food is only getting better as I grow into an old man.
The chicken and shrimp chive dumpling is bomb, and I cannot find something like it anywhere else in the International District. Shrimp shu mai are huge and always juicy.
L.R. C.Z.
Me and my husband were walking in the area to kill time while we waited for an appointment. We came in here and ordered the BBQ Pork humbow, chicken humbow, and 2 strawberry taro supreme drinks with the lychee boba. We we’re here for about 15 minutes - got out food, ate it, and left, it was DELICIOUS! There’s so many places around here that we don’t know so we didn’t know what to expect but we will definitely be coming back again if we’re in the area! In love!
Patrick Mitchell
I came in shortly before closing and the chicken hombow was still fresh and soft and crispy.
Bill Harris
Baked BBQ Pork Hum Bao, Real Good! Treated my visiting brother from Omaha, now he's Hooked! But for him, that's sad, because there's No Mee Sum in the Midwest. We are Soo Lucky!
Lee Hy
Got a pork hum bow. The bun is so soft...loved it
Lawrence Fosnick Davis
Best hombow I've tried. Still addicted after 20 years. There is a much better and efficient line up now that the curbside parking has gone away.
Justin Anderson
The delicious rolls filled with meat are amazing... Ever since I was a kid it has been a tradition to come here and get one on every trip to Seattle! BBQ chicken is good but the curry beef is awesome
Alexandra Urban
Delicious! Get the sweet BBQ pork pun in the incredibly fluffy white bread dumpling exterior - such a yummy treat basically any time of day! 🎉 There’s often a line but it moves quickly so don’t worry. Excited to return next time I’m
In the vicinity! …
B Hochmann
Love this busy little place. We pretty much stop here every time we can. Grab a spot on the curb or wander the street and enjoy your food. There is a park a couple blocks north but generally you’ll finish your food before you can get there. The people here are really nice
Katie G.
I love the hom bow!! So perfect when you only have a minute to grab some food. It's all ready to go, so the only wait is if there is a line. The BBQ pork is my favorite, but have tried several others and they are all delicious. Great place!
Grace Farnham
Love this place! Sometimes I take the link and stop by for dinner. Whenever I go downtown I like to get a pork bun.
Cheryl O
The best Shu Mai I've ever tasted in my life!
If you like Shu Mai, you need to try the truffle one. And don't just get one like I did. The biggest regret 😭.
They are plump, juicy and bursting with truffle flavor!
I also had a BBQ pork bun which was very fresh and delicious, probably the best one I've eaten as well.
The stall is very busy but they have customers moving through fairly quick. Definitely worth the wait!
Make sure to get extra so you don't regret not getting enough.
For those not wanting to make the trip into like place, they do have a second location but call first to see if they offer the same items. I never got the chance to visit.
Jojo K.
I'm SO upset that we don't have the privilege of enjoying this cuisine in AZ. Their curry buns is something I didn't know I needed in my life. I couldn't try all items in the menu but everything that I purchased was delicious. You are definitely missing out if you don't try this place out.
Marie Paulsen
Perfect place to get a quick bite on the go at Pike market that isn’t crazy over priced. (Please note: it IS in a highly trafficked tourist spot so the prices aren’t astounding. It’s just reasonable by comparison.)
The bbq bun is my personal favorite.
Also note the smoothie stand that is both separate and yet the same business. (Fresh mango smoothie was awesome!)
Mikayla Prementine
Fantastic chicken curry hom bow. I see it's flaky, sweet, savory wonders in my dreams. The steamed pork buns were also good. The red bean cake was heavy, dense,. And somewhat dry. Good, but not to my taste. It vastly improved with warm tea. Everything was ready to go and at a price hard to beat. Overall I definitely reccomend this place and their affordable savory dishes.
Christy C
Worth the wait in the long line, some of the best ShuMai I’ve had in the states. There is not much better than getting some of these savory breakfast pastries and eating them while watching the ferries come in to the harbor in the morning.
Brandon DePalo
Had the curry beef hom bow. I have never had something quite like this in my life and it was very good. A single bun is a good snack. I would pair one with some potstickers for a larger meal.
Michael Tippie
This place was shockingly good! The pork Hum Baos are absolutely delicious, and the pork skewers tasted exactly how they look - sweet, meaty, and accented by fat, with a nice pineapple at the end. This place rocks - I will definitely be back here for lunch and any other excuse I can come up with!
Anna Shkrebtii
We went here for breakfast. The sweet stuffed buns were good - coconut dream and red bean, but the meat ones tasted a bit weird as the bun is still sweet
Rubin Reviews
I had the siumai and steamed bbq pork bun. They were both good and hits the spot but really expensive for what it was. I guess the fact that it was right smack in pike place market had something to do with the high prices.
Jada Greer
So good - walked around the market and 2 different people stopped me to ask where they could get some for themselves. Me and my family back for more before going back to our hotel!
Jaylin Calhoun-Davis
This place is amazing. Fresh food and awesome staff. I left my wallet there and thought my life was over. But I called them and verified that is was mine, so I ran back a grabbed it. Also pretty inexpensive for lunch in Pike's place. About $20 for three people plus something for two babies to share.
Alex
Tried a baked pork bun here, and it was warm and delicious. The bun portion was soft and fresh and there was a generous amount of pork inside.
This place is legit. I’ll be back to try more goodies next time. Highly recommended!
James Wu
Cheap and tasty pork buns.
I don't know who these people are getting these crappy buns. I've gotten pork buns from them several times and it's always been very tasty. I can honestly say they have some of the best pork buns I've had outside of the east coast.
Emillie Rose
The curry beef hom bow and BBQ pork bun were good. The red bean sesame ball was ok. I can't wait to try their shu mai and other hom bow.
Pey-Lih L
Yummy, fluffy soft breads that will melt in your mouth! Pineapple bread is delicious, not too sweet and perfect with coffee or tea. Their red bean paste, sesame balls will make you do the happy Snoopy dance. Perfect for quick snacks walking through the public market. Do not miss!
Yukie Gilmore
It's cold and the wait was very long for just two pork buns that were fried on the bottom too long. theres no room to wait inside so you order by scanning a bar code and then make your way to pick up your order. Only a little lady is working by herself
Shell Mccune
Had the pork bun and omg it was delicious !!
LeeAnna Springer
Great food....loved the chicken shrimp dumplings and pork sticks...so good! The juice next door is also a winner!
Yandong Li
If you live close by and you like dim sum or Hong Kong style bbq pork bun, this is one of the best choice you will have within walking distance. I like bbq pork bun, curry beef bun especially, having visited every week and never get enough of it.
Yuuki AsunaYui
Had a chicken & shrimp dumpling and sesame seed red bean ball. I wanted to buy 1 of everything! I recommend splitting items with someone so you can try more! Love this dive bakery!
Alice C
We tried the red bean sesame ball and the sweet lotus seeds cake. Both very original and tasty.
Shailesh Soliwal
Chicken Hombow was not that great, chicken shrimp dumplings were not bad.
Bill Bautista
Delicious baked buns full of delicious goodness! Definitely grab a bite of the barbeque or the chicken, and be sure to grab more than one! It's one of the more cheaper places in the market to grab a bite to eat. I definitely would come back again!
Owyn Dominick
Mee Sum is a local favorite. It's a great price and delicious. Their sweets are yummy. Usually I go for the barbecue pork steam bao and take it hope with me. Sometimes, I'll even plan my walk home just so I can stop and get some. I hate crowds, but this is one of the few things that makes braving Pike's worth it.
Jonathan Huang
Got the BBQ pork hom bow. They used to be better. Now the BBQ pork isn't great (and actually tasted a little sour)
Bailey Elizabeth
picked up the beef curry hom bow & an almond cookie and they were both excellent. highly recommend.
Happy Hacker
Hands down the best humbao in Seattle, fast service, consistent quality.
Get the bbq pork and prepare to be amazed.
One of the few places with a consistent 10 person deep line at the Market, favored by employees, tourists and locals alike.
If you're into street food, be sure to visit.
Jared
First off, the prices are very reasonable. It was around 3 dollars for a bbq pork bun. It was quite tasty, and the bread was soft and fresh. The flavor was a little different, but this is the first pork bun I've had. All in all a nice little place to grab a quick snack.
P Lenee Hicks
The shrimp wedge and curry beef hum bow are divine. There bbq pork is always good and the sesame balls are so good my friend makes me ship them to Arizona!
Daniel M.
I have been going here for years now and have never once been disappointed. The staff are quick and friendly, the food is delicious and exactly what you'd expect, and at a reasonable price!
Joseph Paolini
This is one of the best places in Pike Place Market to grab a snack for under $5. I don't stop by too often in the summer because of the lines, but I will grab something every month when the tourist season slows down a bit. Stop by for a walkable snack for a great price.
Alex
The prices keep going up, yet the quantity of meat keeps going down in the bow's keeps going down unfortunately.. I've been coming here for the last 15 years common it's a shame that they are doing that. The pastries are absolutely delicious and they have the perfect dough, but it's a bummer that they've cut back on the meat
Evan Vorwerk
Best Hum Bao EVER. This place is enough reason to move back to WA state. Amazing
Big Al (Cleveland Van Man)
Awesome food! Super tasty!! Stopped by and got 2 things and the nice girl gave me a pastery for free! It was super awesome and delicous thanks so much! Definetly check it out. The pork on the stick was so thick and juicy. The pastery was tremendous and the shrimp chicken liitle dumpling like thing was my favorite. Super amazing all of it but that thing was sooooo good. Awesome place would reccomend
Robert Martinez
Always take a visit when I'm in Seattle. They held coconut buns for me since they were sold out twice when I visited. Must visit in pikes place
Seren
Curry Hom Bow is amazing. Absolutely fantastic.
Lady at the front has absolutely 0 personality and may be a robot.
If you want some amazing street food come here, if you want great customer service... or any customer service go elsewhere.
Anna Jean
Delicious place, the beef curry honbow was perfection and the sesame red bean ball was equally good. Definitely hit it up
CJ Horyza
This is my must-go every time I'm at the market. BBQ pork hambao might be my favorite thing at the market, and super cheap. Curry beef is also great just for the sweet roll used. Protip: there is a second window downstairs by the restroom which never has a line.
Celeste Liberty
As someone who steams my own mantou at home, I give Mee Sum credit for their BBQ Pork Buns. They're great for a quick snack on a cold, wet day if you're at the market--nothing really beats breaking open a steaming hot bun when it's cold, IMHO. My only complaint is that the bread-to-filling ratio is a little off. Otherwise, thumbs up. They sell other Chinese pastries and savory snacks too.
Tim Sheng
Wonderful place to visit! Again, this is in Seattle and you must be stay alert for all the time in public places. This is a known dangerous city in the country.
G
If you're looking up places to get hum bao, you can probably stop and get down to it right now. These buns are some of the best in Seattle; not too sweet and, if you're doing it right, filled with their god damned delicious barbecued pork. I *suppose* you could order the curry beef, if you were really into spicing up the variety a little bit.
The pastries are fine, but nothing to write home about. Same with the egg/sprint rolls -- edible, but you're here for the buns. Just get the buns.
Please do not actually drive to Mee Sum. It is in the middle of Pike Place and you will not find parking, hate yourself, and make everyone around you hate you too.
Cash or credit!
Alex Zer0
EAT THE CURRY BEEF HOMBOW! DO IT NOW! (: Really delicious family run place, perfect for on the go eating. Everything is delicious but I'm partial to their Hombows and red bean flavored anything.
Valorie Parker
I have been coming here for 18 years for their BBQ pork Hum Bao and BBQ pork on the skewer. You honestly can not get better food.
Ashley Cope
Man, you kind of want to hate this place because the prices are so high and the cashiers act like they want to lock you in a chest of ravenous scorpions, but they do make some tasty stuff. The curry beef bao is saucy, overstuffed, and has a spicy curry kick, with a crispy-sweet pineapple bun topping. The pork sticks are overpriced and the pineapple chunks are gross and unnecessary but the pork itself is nicely seasoned and roasted. Steamed chicken bun is a winner. Zongzi is full of tasty peanuts and really sticks to your ribs on a cold morning. My personal faves are the giant red bead sesame ball and the red bean egg yolk tart.
Mee Sum, you are hard to hate.
Boo Bees
The pineapple bread was my favorite 😋 the buns were warm and very soft. Perfect for a crisp Seattle morning …
Nicole Grieble
Their Crab Rangoon is the best I've ever tasted. I get it every time I come to the market. Sometimes I go to the market just to get them! The bow's are also delicious. They are very friendly and are definitely worth stopping at.
Caroline kaiser
Bbq pork bao was delicious! The buns are amazing.
Jean Buchband
Best authentic tzong-ze outside of Taiwan with plenty of roasted peanuts. Steamed sticky rice with roasted peanuts wrapped in banana leaves. Always come by for a bunch when I am in town…
Alan Ch
Their curry beef bun is seriously one of the best food items to have ever existed. if you've ever had the bbq buns from Tim Ho Wan it's something resembling that, but maybe even better!
Laura Musikanski
Yummy goodness when it comes to hum bow. Don’t get just one cause you’ll want more and the lines can be long.
Maybe skip the rest of the offerings except the kebab if you are protein hungry. Good deal.
Michelle Seaton
I have been buying humbow from Mee Sum for years! Simply delicious!! I always buy the BBQ pork and this time decided to try the curried beef,... One word, YUM!!
A P
One the best spots to go to especially when bringing out of town relatives and friends.
Do not miss this spot if your an avid char siu bao!!!
Otherwise if you will just complain and will discriminate stay in your couch and stick to ur boring processed foods.
T B
Five stars for the baked BBQ pork hom bow. I get it every time I go to Pike Place market. I haven't heard great reviews about the rest of their items though.
Matt Hochstein
Amazing stop at the Pike Place Market! Must get the curry beef hom bow. Somehow people are missing this place because the line was super short even on a crowded Saturday, but it's one of the best things I've eaten recently.
Dan Deranleau
Do yourself a favor if you’re at Pike, grab a BBQ Hom Bow from Mee Sum. I used have them when I lived I Seattle circa 1990 and 29 years later they are exactly the same. Capital F...ucking delicious. Always fresh and hot. Yummmmmmmmm.
PJ Sorem
Food is so amazing! I come here every time I go to Seattle. It's cheap and a great meal or snack. Would definitely recommend. 10 frogs out of 10!
Joshua Vogel
I got a couple of bao stuffed with BBQ pork. They were okay, but nothing amazing.
Jerry Z
Pros:
- Oh my god this place is so good. Just try it already. Just get their beef curry bon or bbq pork bon. Eat it while exploring the rest of the area.
Cons:
- None haha
Evan Zarate
Sesame buns are insane. Incredible
pd chic
Beef curry bun was excellent. Lotus seed with preserved egg pastry was good also. Char siu bun was ok. Wife cake was not good. The crust tasted rancid and it had too much filling.
Ronald Schneider
Whenever I travel to Seattle I look forward to the Humbow of Mee Sum Pastry. I spent $48 last time I was there and took them back on the plane frozen to reheat for the rest of the week back home. Go for the curry and get baked not steamed. One of the best things about Seattle is this little pastry shop.
Christopher Salley
Another Seattle nom, nom that is not over-hyped. Fresh, flaky little pillows of Asian goodness. My favorite, the sesame red bean balls. I'm a coconut lover, so I also tried the coconut dream roll. Ok, idk if it's called dream, but it's what I picture when I think of coconut + pastry. Both items we're under $2.50ea and the service is speedy. Go get some.
Katie
Good, authentic Chinese pastry. Service is ok.
Jay L
Great taste- shu-mai and curry beef stuffed bread
B F
Try the shumai and the siopao (steam bun). Fresh, handmade, giant-sized and delicious. I dream about this stuff from all the way from Houston. I went 4 times within one week in my last visit, because our hotel was close to Pike Place Market.
revorgm12
Best crab rangoons I’ve ever had. So fresh and warm. The curry beef hom bow was delicious. The bread is amazing
Meg Skeehan
Cheap and delicious Asian snacks. The BBQ pork bao is amazing. $5 minimum on credit card transactions so plan ahead.

Fayte M
Best steamed buns in town!! The mushrooms in the steamed chicken Humbao was so delicious, and the nap was so light, fluffy and perfectly sweetened. Thank you Mee Sum Pastry!!!
Jake Freyer
I got a red bean pastry (紅豆蛋黃酥), which was pretty good but not amazing. I also tried a bit of a curried beef bun, which was way better. I’d recommend trying this place!
JESSICA MCFARLIN

Aaron Wilson
Really good. I recommend the pork, it was very yummy! I found the prices reasonable given the overall costs of food in Seattle.

Very few vegetarian options, and none of them are exciting. Not very kid friendly either. No high chairs, and the staff was visibly annoyed at my kid.
