Reviews of Cake House
Nico John Cervano
I bought some egg tarts and a fruit cake back during Mother's day. The cake was simple, fresh, and soft. My mom loved it! It wasn't too sugary. Every bite was really delightful. Anyways, they only take cash. I've been here a couple times. I finally remembered to write a review about this friendly bakery.

This is a small traditional Chinese bakery. I bought coconut bun and pie. I paid total 7 USD. Bakery was delicious. Only cash is accepted. There is no seating, only for take away.

Love, love, love this place. They have the best cream buns EVA (I've been all over SF China Town and couldn't find better) and their coconut buns are superb (especially fresh out of the oven). It's a cash only establishment. Buy extras. You'll thank me later.

Bring cash! And definitely get a coconut bun (or 5). They are too good. I thoroughly enjoyed them even when cold. But everything else at this store has been amazing, too. Price and quality just cannot be beat. I can’t wait to go again!

I’ll admit, when I visited the ID as a child I always took Cake House for granted. My family didn’t go there very often so I didn’t think much of the place. It’s nondescript like a lot of places in the area, but after trying to find good Chinese bakeries I was led to Cake House. I’ve been to Cake House a few times as an adult and have enjoyed the pastries I got every time. Most recently I visited on a Wednesday morning around 9am. I lucked out and got there as the owner brought out freshly baked ham and egg buns. I ended up buying a ham and egg bun, chicken pie, and sponge bake. I enjoyed everything I bought. The chicken pie was tasty and rich – the chicken tasted like chicken in Chinese lo mai gai but with a Western crust. The sponge cake was nice and fluffy without being too sweet as well. The highlight was the fresh ham and egg bun though. It was amazing. The fluffy bun was wrapped around the ham and egg but what distinguished this one was the egg wash on top. The bun had been baked and had a golden brown almost darker brown color and the egg wash created a sort of thin crust that gave a little resistance when biting into the bun adding a wonderful texture. I’ve had many ham and egg buns in my life and this was the best I’ve ever eaten. I’m glad I found out that their baked goods are legit eventually. I will be back to try more of the pastries.

TLDR Review:
Very nice service and good desserts/pastries that won't break your wallet! Got 3 buns for under 5$. Well worth it.

Detailed Review:
This review is based off of 4 categories. Food, Service, Atmosphere, and Cleanliness. The stars are divided among these categories and weighed more heavily on FOOD. This will hopefully help people understand why the place is good at and why I rate the # of stars.
Food is rated out of 4 main grades with the total .
Unacceptable (0 stars) , Not Good (.5) , Fair (1) , Great (2 stars-Max given))
The other categories are graded by 3 levels. Max 1 star for each category.
Unacceptable (0 stars) , Fair/Good (.5), Great (1 stars-Max given))
Max total of stars: 5
FOOD: (Great!! 2 out of 2 stars)
-Buns are dense but retains moisture and the softness in the bun
-Because it is dense, the buns are slightly heavier than other buns I've tried around the area. Possibly due to also more filling
-The bread doesn't feel dry. Reminds me of Hokkaido Milk Bread. perhaps it is!??!
-I love how much filling this bakery gives. Check my photos out for the Custard bun and see how much filling is inside it!
-Very nice and soft filling. Flavorful and a lot of character.
-Its nicely priced and inexpensive (saying cheap would make the food sound "okay" BUT ITS NOT. THE PASTRIES IS GREAT!)
SERVICE: (Great: 1 out of 1 stars)
-I was served by a nice lady behind the counter. She recommended and told nice stories behind several of the buns. She also described how some of the buns were made and I was surprise about the amount of pride behind them! Confidence is good! She even told me which were the fresher ones without asking! Felt like a nice personal conversation and I was very pleased.
ATMOSPHERE: (Good/Great: .75 out of 1)
-I didn't pay attention to this too much but there wasnt anything distinctly bad. I liked how the wall where the entrance is is basically one big windowed wall and you can chill and see people pass by. For the price of the food and such, the place has ok furniture. Don't expect comfy booths. Its a bakery not a restaurant lol.
CLEANLINESS: (Great: 1 out of 1 stars)
-Atmosphere wise, there isn't anything outstandingly bad but the place looks clean. The food/pastries were handled professionally and with thongs. Not too picky with this category cause I don't think its that important.
Total Stars: 4.75 out of 5. Basically a 5 star imo. For the price and the nature of the bakery. It exceeds my expecations. It would be a different story if its meant to be more fancy/pricey.

I’m so glad I found this place. Everything is fresh and tasty. This is better than 85 degree and the entire box only cost $20. Cash only. Go support this small business.

This place was so yummy. We tried the custard buns, a puff pastry, and the almond cookies. ALL very satisfying and very delicious after our dinner. The custard was creamy, the cookie and pastry were airy.
Sharon Li
Yummy 8’ inch mango cake! Moist and creamy and not too sweet. Love it!
Miwa Peoples
I always order birthday cake here. They have super tasty beef curry pie. Cash only!!
Kevin Shum
Best fruit cakes in town! Always a fan favorite and my go-to for celebrations. Pineapple buns are great too. Cash only.
Andrew Hoang
Dan tat were good, it's the crispy crust only if that's something you'd factor in buying. The chasiu bao was insanely full of meat from first bite to last. Same goes for the cream filled bun (the one that looks like chasiu bao but with baking paper underneath), fill of cream from first bite to last. Gai mei bao was also delicious with good amount of filling too.
Bread was super soft and it alone tasted good.
Sorry for the no pics, I just had to eat them lol

I haven't had everything here (I'M TRYING!!) but everything I have had is great. I'm sure I will eventually be disappointed, but not yet.

BEST COCONUT BUNS EVER! me and my family have been going here for over 10 years and it never disappoints! the owner is so sweet and he is always so happy to see us:) they have such delicious pastries and i recommended coming here 100%!!
Piper Driskell
Everything I have had here has been a hit and made me want to come back again soon! They are cash only but everything is such a low price, you can’t help but get a lot of treats. The owners are very sweet as well. I will be coming back here as long as they are around.

I always try and visit this bakery when I'm in the Seattle area! I've gotten the fruit tart, sponge cake, and Swiss rolls here before and they're great every time. Prices are very fair and the bakery gives me nostalgia of how bakeries used to be in Chinatown in Chicago before they got "modern" (and pricey).
Monet Kumazawa
Wonderful people, wonderful pastries and savories, wonderful taste. Highly highly recommend this hidden gem for affordable and delicious food!!
Jocelyn Garcia
I absolutely love this bakery!! Me & my family come here whenever we’re in Seattle & always make sure to bring some extra home with us. It’s not pricey & their goods are spectacular. Definitely a 10/10 spot!
Melody Smith
I would have shared a picture of my fruit tart but, it was eaten too fast. Handmade pastries and a cute shop. Owner was kind. It is cash only so be ready. 😊 …
Thad Caperton
The best Fruit Custard Tart I've ever had. 😋 …
Sabrina Sladewski
Cash only which is a bummer, but hands down best fruit tarts I've had in my life. Staff is super friendly and it is fair pricing. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. The fruit was fresh, the filling was delicious and the crust was just perfect.
Alex Johnson
Amazing treats and the friendliest owners! Always happy to support and eat my favorite fruit tarts anywhere
NKV
The cream cheese bun is huge, fluffy, and has a delicious custard filling. I'm not a big dessert person, which is why I like that the bun part is unsweetened, allowing the cream cheese custard to really shine. It's just the right amount of sugar. Also, for less than $2, it's a steal! The woman who served me was really friendly and it totally made my whole morning.
Boris Tuong
Always our go to. Fresh made, kinda family, and they always hold or make a ton of coconut buns for us. Cakes are light and delicious not overwhelming with Western style frosting
G C
Very tasty desserts at reasonable price. If you like old fashion traditional Chinese pastries then look no further. One of my favorite treats is the fresh baked coconut loft.
Curtis Allan
I’ve been coming here for over 20 years I feel like part of the family. The coconut bun is their real raison d’être. I always used to get the big one, but have come to appreciate the little ones even more now. Chinese hot dog roll always good too. I am not a big fan of Cantonese food, but as far as Chinese baking goes, Hong Kong style is king. Cash only, don’t get there too late because when the coconut buns run out you won’t get another one until tomorrow.
Peixin Yang
Best custard cream bun ever

I love the pastries here, they make the best fruit tarts, and the cakes are light and just the right amount of sweetness. The frosting on the cakes is not icing, it's more like whipped cream, which makes everything taste so much better. I highly recommend this place, I haven't one like it anywhere else in Seattle.

I first visited this bakery on a Happy Hour Food Walk and was not disappointed. My second experience was on my hunt for Mooncakes for the Mid Autumn Moon Festival. They actually make their mooncakes fresh in house which is a feat in itself! Staff is friendly and the bakes are exceptional.
Wolfgang Eastman
The staff is extremely friendly and the food is delicous and fresh baked. The prices are super reasonable and already include tax, so no worrying about doing that math in your head. Seattle is so lucky to have this gem of a shop. Definitely recommend!!
Karen H
The girl was incredibly friendly and super knowledgeable!!
We got some of the sponge cake rolls, lemon and regular cream, and the cake was very moist and just the right amount of sweet. I'm sad i didbt see this place before, i want to know what else they sell!!
Mews
I'm hooked on the raisin bun 😋 but everything I've tried tastes so fresh. I prefer Cake House over 85 degrees bakery. …
Tom Heffernan

Best traditional Hong Kong bakery!
Yin-Chen Huang
Cheap pastries. For beverage, they only serve hot coffee. The owner was quite friendly. It's a good place to have some Hong Kong style pastries.
Matthew Shull
Before the pandemic, this would be my go-to for BBQ pork buns and other breads. Absolutely delicious and I HIGHLY recommend everyone to check this place out.

Although the bakery is old and cash only. The quality of the baked goods and the fair pricing is more than enough to compensate

가격도 싸고 무난한 맛입니다.

(Translation) The bread is made of solid ingredients and is very delicious. Only Jinhua can match it in Hong Kong. A full is about two yuan, the price is not expensive but the portion is full. The owner (master) is a Hong Konger who has immigrated to Seattle for more than 30 years, and his daughter is also very welcoming. After you may wish to buy it and try it.
