SO GOOD. The blueberry donuts and scones are full of blueberry and not overly sweet. The donuts are delicious, and the employees are low key and helpful. So nice to stumble upon this bakery. Can’t wait to come back.

We used to get donuts every week at work from the Cookie Jar. My favorites are the plain and chocolate toasted coconut donuts. The cupcakes and cookies are a little too sweet for me, but nice every once in a while. They have several different types of coffee, all Coffee by Design. It is a decent brand. I prefer the darker roasts like Black Thunder. Not many places carry that many options. I have had many pieces of their birthday cakes over the years. I prefer them to grocery store bought cakes, but I also bake a lot at home. If you don't have the time, or skills, they are a great option for ordering cakes or other desserts.

I have ordered several cakes for special occasions in the past year. Each time, guests rave about how wonderful the cakes look and taste. The cakes and the icing are by far the best tasting bakery cakes I've ever eaten and are less expensive than some other high profile bakeries. If you're a calorie counter, rest assured a piece of this cake will be worth every one.

Best! We were there at Portland Head Light for sunrise and this was open on the way back. Blueberry bagel was out of this world! We also tried the Boston Cream Bismark and it was really nice without sweetness overpowering. Also had both hot and cold coffee. Highly recommend!

You must go here. Even if you're nowhere near it you should still probably go ;) Amazing house made pastries including fresh Danish, huge and beautiful donuts, cookies galore, cupcakes and pies. Large shop with plenty of room to enjoy your treat. Large assortment of coffee by Coffee by Design. Helpful, friendly staff, and good prices! Just an unbelievably fantastic place.

If you love old school bakeries, you need to try this place! Their donuts and pastries are to die for! We got donuts, a double chocolate cupcake..which my son devoured, and a gingerbread lady. Love this place and we always try to stop whenever we are in Portland!

Great vanilla coconut donuts! Lots of other donut varieties to choose from. Prices are a bit high, but not too bad. Very large selection of coffee flavors, too. Very friendly staff.

The donuts at the Cookie Jar are generous in both their size and taste! I especially like their jelly donut. Unlike other places, you'll find way more than just a smidgeon of jelly inside. So many flavors and varieties to choose from, including muffins, danishes, etc., it's hard to decide!

3.5 stars… because they’re independent and locally owned and around a long time. Just had a strawberry rhubarb pie from here… without any strawberries or rhubarb in it. More like jelly donut filling. Donuts are decent. I guess I prefer a different baking style… too white flour.

This place is the best place for pastries and cakes!! Donna is so amazingly talented, friendly and personable. She understands the high-costs of weddings and tried to make the pricing easier for couples. Well she went above and beyond here! Everything tasted so fabulous, we received free coffee during our cake tasting. Also, our first Anniversary cake was fabulous! You can tell she really takes pride in what she does and even in the preservation of our first Anniversary cake.

I ordered a birthday cake the other day and picked it up today.. a few hours later we dug into the cake.. it was EXTREMELY DRY... it wasn't worth eating. And to also add..it tasted like it had been frozen overnight.. the consistency was not good at all. I spent about 35 bucks on a cake that I am very disappointed in.. waste of 35 bucks.. but besides that the frosting was good! Probably the only good part of the cake.

If I had to describe the Cookie Jar in one word, it would be AMAZING!! I was in town visiting & came across the Cookie Jar and just had to check it out! I’m gluten free so it’s very hard to find bakeries that carry gluten free. Luckily the Cookie Jar offered gluten free cupcakes. Let me tell you it was the BEST gluten free baked good I have ever had!! I wish I could have had all of the other goodies, but I don’t doubt that they’re just as good! Great customer service, great baked goods & an adorable name! I will definitely be back the next time I’m in Maine!

People go nuts for donuts from that other place, which are fine, but if you want a crazy-good as-big-as-your-hand donut then try the Cookie Jar. They also sell traditional birthday cakes that taste like a birthday cake should. If you are unsure of what to try, grab a red-velvet and/or apple donut. I'd go with 5 stars, but they've had trouble at times during the pandemic supporting curbside pickup.

If you want a traditional yeast based donut, skip Holy Donut and come here. I ordered the chocolate glazed and boston cream. The chocolate glazed was a little to sweet for me but my kids liked it, the boston cream is packed with filling. The donuts are large and the staff is very friendly. I would give this a 5 star but I compare my donuts to the Blue Dot in New Orleans.

Our routine is to burn a ton of calories by pedaling a 35 mile route with a stop at The Cookie Jar at the 25 mile mark to eat a bunch of calories. The donuts are giant, the pastries are phenomenonal and the Coffee By Design coffee selection is always good. We plan our cycling routes specifically to include a stop whenever possible. So good! The only negative? Sometimes it is too popular with a long line or they might run out of your favorite before you get to order.

I’ve always loved the cookie jar. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. I recently ordered my first cake from them and it wasn’t what I expected. The owner and staff were amazing in the way they handled the situation. They solved the problem right away even though they were very busy. So nice of them as this was a birthday cake for my 14 year old daughter. Just an amazing place!😊

This place has EXCELLENT DONUTS! I have lived in Maine for a year and have not yet enjoyed a donut anywhere! Dunkin is the bane of my existence! Holy donuts are interesting but too oily and fatty. The only reason that Cookie jar isn't getting 5 stars; is that there are no masking signs, nobody who worked there wore a mask. It's time to get with that! Will be back though!

Great shop, but they struggle to respond to demand (good problem to have, I suppose!). For example: On each of my last 4 visits, Cookie Jar has been sold out of their cream & raspberry-filled turnovers. Seems like a trend, ya? Maybe produce more of high-demand items? Doesn’t seem like the hardest thing to figure out in the age of big data, analytics, etc. Anyhow, big fan, love long time, byeeeeeee

If you love bakeries you must check this one out. You walk in and there are so many scrumptious treats! There is a cute seating area inside if you want to enjoy your treat there. The donuts are fresher, bigger, and worth a little more. The service is friendly and they have coffee for you enjoy in several flavors!

The Cookie Jar is utterly amazing! The donuts are rich and flavorful beyond belief, and man they are gigantic as well. I swear the jelly donuts feel like they weigh close to a half-pound each! Prices are very reasonable and the service here is good. This is probably my favorite donut shop in the greater Portland area.

Every time I’m in Cape Elizabeth, I make sure to stop in at the cookie jar. It’s just a small little bakery/ coffee shop and it’s easy to miss, but inside is amazing. The place feels open and bright while still having a huge variety of both pastries and coffees to choose from. All of the food is made in house fresh and is both delicious and huge while still being very gracious to your wallet. The employees there tend to be helpful with picking out what you want and answering any questions you have and seem like they genuinely enjoy working there. In my opinion, no trip to Cape Elizabeth is complete without a stop at The Cookie Jar. I’m very much looking forward to the next time I’m in the area.

A little dissapointing with last phone call as I need to place an order for Danish....which is fine. Did it more than 24 hours in advance....they had to check and call me back....ok they did about 6 hours later (thought they forgot)....and said they would not be able to make the 6 large Danish for the next day. I understand being short staffed but it was dissapointing. At least I didnt drive 30 minutes out of my way 😁

Their donuts are delicious and the portion is huge. One donut will fill you up but there is nothing wrong with that. The selection is pretty stellar too, long list of donuts available daily. It's super convenient when heading to fort Williams or two lights to eat breakfast by the beach.

Delicious, very large donuts. My kids and I took a field trip day to the Portland area and were on the lookout for a place that made yeast style donuts (aside from the D&D on every street corner). Everyone seems to make the heavier cake-style and potato donuts, except this place. The older lady behind the counter was very friendly and polite to my kids, so that's always nice. While we don't make donuts a regular part of our diet (wouldn't that be great if we could!), we will definitely make this our go-to place for the yeasty treats whenever we're in the area.

We love this place. It became a tradition to stop here when we took weekend vacations north, and we always looked forward to it. All the pastries we tried were great. Good coffee is available for a pick-me-up, and the day-old shelf often had great deals for a snack to take on the road.

Excellent cookies, cupcakes and the best doughnuts we've ever tasted! The molasses cookies were as good as my grandmother used to bake and the service was incredible. This shop is just a mile away from a beautiful lighthouse so if you are in the area, you have to stop and try something.

Two things caught my attention when I walked in: First, despite there being about 10 customers, it was as quiet as a library, muffled talking and no music playing. Second, the large size of their delicious donuts! The Boston Cream was definitely worth getting. They had creative flavors too!

Not really any prices or labels for the names of them so you spent more time explaining which pastry you wanted in the case then anything else. Parking was very limited or at least not labeled as to where you'd be allowed to park without fearing a tow truck.

I love The Cookie Jar! I frequently tell my friends and family that they need to stop by and experience the awesomeness that is The Cookie Jar. A friend introduced me to the Cookie Jar a few years ago and now I can't stay away. My favorite is their red velvet donuts..(also favorite among family and friends too). You'll have to get there early because they sell out fast, once they're out, they're out for the day (once in awhile they make more in the afternoon but it's not guaranteed). They have a variety of coffees, juices and other drinks offered. As well as cannoli, breads, cookies, Whoopie pies, pies, muffins and donuts...and more. I recently tried their red velvet and chocolate chocolate chip muffins very sweet and plan on getting again on my next visit. The staff are super nice... I've never had a bad experience here. I highly recommend stopping by for a sweet treat and coffee!

For a place to be called the cookie jar I thought they would have had more cookies or gormet/specialty cookies. I got 2 oatmeal raisin cookies they were ok I've definitely has better. I also got 2 carrot cake cupcakes they were really dry and crumbly. The best thing was the mini cheese danish I wanted a large one but they didn't have it. I also wanted some dinner rolls but they didn't have any. I probably wouldn't come back again.
