Reviews of Ken's Artisan Bakery
Chris Childs
Great find. We were visiting Portland and stopped in very hungry one morning and ordered half the pastry menu. The quiche was the best I’ve ever had and I loved how hearty of a portion it was.
I’ve been a bread baker for 10 years with a considerable amount of experience in laminated doughs. I really enjoyed the dough here, as it’s used in the morning bun and other pastries. The croissant seemed overproofed, to me, because the croissants didn’t have an intense crisp on the exterior I often look for. However, I loved the darker bake. Brings forward better flavor.
The almond croissant was conceptually really nice but unfortunately the filling was a miss for me. Really strong alcohol vanilla flavor. I LOVED the ground almonds, though, I just think Amaretto liquor or a good quality almond extract would make them next level.
The morning bun was good but the amount of zest seemed safe to me which makes sense because I think it’s baked into the dough rather than traditionally buttered and tossed in an orange sugar. Still pretty good though. I had just had one at Tartine last month so it’s hard to compete with that!
The woman serving us was lovely and told us when morning buns were right out of the oven so we could get one. Coffee was awesome.
Will definitely be in again next time we’re in Portland :)

Great selection of pastries, cakes and bread prepared at onsite bakery. There are plenty of places to sit down and enjoy your food. We ordered different croissants and cakes and all of them were fresh and delicious

What can I say, this place is the best bakery I think I have ever been to! We stopped here after visiting Washington Park on our scooters for a mid-morning snack. We had a ham and cheese croissant along with a black berry pastrie and iced coffee's. It was truly unbelievably good. We will be recommending this place to our friends and family who visit Portland and will be coming back here religiously on every visit we make to Portland.
Marissa Pimentel
Great pastries! We had the Goat Leek and the Ham, Thyme, Gruyere Croissants. Both were delicious! Would definitely order them again. The coffee was also delicious along with their hazelnut shortbread cookies.
Kevin Luck
What a great place to eat. The smell of fresh bread and pastries greet you when you walk in. The have a nice selection of soups and sandwich specials to choose from.
Sara Gleasman
Was pleasantly surprised!
I really love anything laminated dough, and they had so many options!
I loved their escargots, they were so different and delicious! I had the passionfruit one, and they have a raspberry one too.
Their Almond Croissants were amazing as well.
Will definitely be back 🥰

Awesome bakery originally by an awesome author. The breads and sandwiches were superb. What a lovely and lively place!
Katherine Demaree
Warm and cozy and oh so yummy! We love a good pastry day. I would only say, maybe get coffee somewhere else.
Lucas Kerper
Loved it. Will certainly go back. Friendly customer service, easy area to walk in, many shops nearby. Ken's has very curious baked items such as the Oregon Berry Croissant. I will have to try that one next time.
Laura Lee Petsnick
Top tier pastries and coffee. Made on site. You can’t go wrong with what you order.
Also Ken’s Artisan Pizza is a must-try too!
Nick Harris
Good croissant and soup, but grumpy, unfriendly “you’re not really cool enough to be here”-type service. And the oven was broken too, so no bread, which was annoying.

this place is absolutely a hidden gem
finished a 4 inches pecan tart in the morning is so satisfying
morning bun added a hit of flavor and texture

Update (Oct 2021): Back in Portland for a weekend and got a croissant at Ken's. Flaky and tasty. The indoor dinning space also makes a difference compared to when people had to line up outside and get to-gos. Thus adding one star from my original 3-star review.
Original (Feb 2021): I visited Ken's Bakery three times over the course of several months during my time living in Portland and the experience ranges from very disappointed to absolutely amazed. [Photos are in reverse chronicle order.]
Visit #1: Got the rustic bread and the crest was way too soft for my taste. I can't believe this is considered the best bakery in Portland.
Visit #2: Complained about my last experience so I was recommended their signature country blonde which is supposed to have harder crest. Unfortunately, while it was indeed better, the difference wasn't enough. On the other hand, their croissant and pain au chocolat were on point.
Visit #3: Wanted to give Ken's one last chance and tried their walnut bread. Finally, this is the one I have been craving. Absolutely fantastic. Ate the loaf in one seating. The almond croissant was terrific too.
Overall I don't think you get good bang for the bucks here, considering there is always a wait, the premium price you pay, and the potential disappointment.

This is my favorite bakery of all time. I totally love their fresh bread and baguettes. My bakery favorites are almond croissant, blood orange tarts and morning buns.
As far as savory food is concerned they don't have a lot of vegetarian options. The only option was grilled cheese sandwich and tomato basil soup, it tasted 3/5. The soup was very very heavy and they over toasted the bread. I wish they add more vegetarian sandwiches to the menu
Dima Karpenko
One of our favourite bakeries! Love their delicious sandwiches and fresh baked breads along with croissants. Currently there is no indoor dining and limited selection of the pastries. Can’t wait for their macaroons to come back. Highly recommend Ken’s Artisan Bakery!

The best bakery in the city! I really like it! My favorite type of bread- Country Blond, I can eat it without anything, it’s very tasty! And I like their Oregon croissant, probably it’s the most delicious croissant which I ever tried! I wish this company many many years of successful work❤️
Antoine VD
I really wanted to taste the bread of men fourkish as I learn a lot through his books
I gotta say if it was not of the books.. I would even put 3 stars. We ordered 4 items - 1 croissant (2/5) 1- almond croissant (2/5) both were dry...and not crispy + the almond croissant miss filling..- the chocolate croissant was fresh and tasty tough. Finally as we are visiting we ordered a small walnut bread... I feel that we were not lucky and get maybe stuff from the day before.. the place is full so it must be good!
Allison Vennerberg
Amazing bakery. The croissants are buttery and flaky, and the coffee is decent. Best danish I've ever had.
Y K
Fantastic croissants - favorite is definitely the Oregon croissant. Savory croissants are also a great treat. Pastries are not warm but that doesn’t take away from how amazing they are. Quality is always consistent. Ken’s is the perfect French bakery. Come by every week or two to get my pastry fix.
Catherine Clark
I love coming here to Ken’s for a celebratory pastry and latte on a Friday because I need the pick me up to kickstart my weekend. Honestly, I couldn’t afford to come here everyday but I treat myself maybe once a month for a nice brunch. Their food gives me energy and everything I’ve tried so far has been mouthwatering goodness. I especially love their handmade salads. Thank you for the amazing customer service and for providing a great local bakery!
P Ndu
1st time here and I must say it didn't disappoint. I had the goat cheese& leek croissant and my Beau got Ken's hero sandwich. The drinks were equally good too. Bomb! Super delish...we'll def be back.

I was visiting my sister in Portland and she noted that Ken's Artisan Bakery was one of her favorites spots to go to. I never say no to pastries, so I was automatically on board!
- PARKING -
Street parking only - its pretty busy but we got lucky with a spot just a block away.
- SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT -
Immediately when you walk in, there's display cases with the pastries and desserts for you to look at. They also have fresh breads on the wall, so dont forget to look at them all! Once you order your food, they get packing and it's a quick turnaround so you can grab and go!
- FOOD -
Oregon Croissant: Delicious flaky pastry with Marionberries inside! Really nice balance between tart berries and the sweet bread.
Ham and Cheese Croissant: With sweet you need savory! This was a great pairing as the ham inside was delicious - I do wish there was more cheese though!
Morning Bun: I'm not usually a big fan of Morning Buns because the orange is too strong at times. Ken's version is perfectly balanced though! I also LOVED the sugar crystals on the outside.
- OVERALL -
I can see why this is one of my sisters favorite spots to go to! Delicious options, whether you like sweet or savory, or a little bit of both.

Recently lived in France for 4 years. When I came back to the US, I tried many baguettes at other places, all of which were an abysmal attempt.
I can say with certainty, Ken’s has the most authentic tasting baguette that you will find in Portland and perhaps on the west coast. Bravo !
Noah Solnick
I flew to Portland specifically to buy tarts and canele from Ken's. Earlier this year I was in Paris, Ken's is on par with most, and better than several patisseries. After buying dessert, try the soups and sandwiches, you won't regret it.

I recently went into Ken's Bakery and purchased a few items, it was a rainy cold morning pretty early ,i had left I was in my car and was on my way home and something told me to look in the box to make sure the order was right sure enough he had placed a wrong pastry in the box ,I've had this problem before so when I order now I'm very clear and speaks slowly I went back to the bakery through the rain , got in there waited in line and told the person who I had ordered from the situation, he said that he must not have heard me right , I really didn't appreciate his demeanor ,he said it in an insincere way, what really surprised me was he asked for my box back, took the pastry out that I had already had my car and put it on a workbench where people were working , he put the correct one in but it surprised me that he took the pastry and put it back on a food surface area, I'm not looking for a freebie , or to be compensated in anyway ,But that's just bad business , there's a possibility of cross-contamination going on there ,They didn't know if I was sick or who I was or where that pastry had been and to put it on a food surface area, that is pretty amateurish , I've worked in kitchens for 35 years and I try to bend over backwards to make sure i take care of the people I serve, after all that's what our industry should be about, You're only as strong as your weakest link, and their service there isn't very good, It's too bad because the pastries are good. Service in Portland can be amateurish at times, if you don't like your job don't be there, step up and take some pride , I know that entails effort which is tough for some

This is my favorite bakery in the whole world. In the 10 years that I lived in Portland, I probably spent at least a day here every week during that time. Get the ham & gruyere croissant. Another local secret, check out their Monday Pizza Night! If you want a table, get there before 6pm.
Eiko Ross
Good sandwiches. Breads are good too.

This review is overdue. Now that I have moved out of the neighborhood, I can truly recognize what a treasure this place is. I drove in to the city this morning with a craving. The place was bustling and you could see the delight on the patron’s faces. The woman in line next to me excitedly told me she lives 3 hours away now but always stops in when she is in the area. I remember coming in while pregnant and then later slipping pieces of oregon croissant to the toddler I carried on my back and then later still stopping by for breakfast along our walk to school (photo, 2015). We love the croissants - oregon, chocolate, ham and Gruyère. Amazing breads and tarts. Used to have a Banhmi that was pretty bomb. Thanks for the memories and all of the baked goods.

I am french and always looking for good boulangeries. After waiting 15 min in line ( they seemed to be well organized because they served a lot of clients in 15 min), i got my ham and cheese baguette sandwich. What a pleasant surprise! The crusty baguette was warm and not too heavy. The mustard was delicious. They were nice, fast and polite, all we ask for. Thanks a lot for your great food and service during these tough times. I will definitely be back and spread the word.
Kim Kate
I had one macaron and croissant here
I was looking for a proper french one.
The macaron is sweeter than I expected.
But I think this place is pretty good to eat french bakery, the prices is not cheap though.
Julian Fessard
Amazing pastries, best we've had in Portland.
Try the oregon croissant (delicious berries inside) and the cheese/ham/thyme croissant for a nice savoury bite.
The line on Sunday morning was super short for us.
We also enjoyed the chai latte.
Jordan Bayles
Incredible bread, I am pretty sure I just had the best deli sandwich of my life. Worth the 15 minute line on a cold Sunday morning, incredible technical execution and variety on the menu. Didn't get coffee, but it being Proud Mary is a huge bonus.
Emily Hemenway
This bakery is incredible. Everything I saw was crafted to perfection. The tarts were beautiful, the lamination on the croissants was magnificent, and all of their loaves of bread looked picture perfect. I ordered an iced latte and it was very good and the ham and gruyere croissant I got was so flaky and delicious and packed full of ham. I bought a walnut loaf as well and it was loaded with nuts. I brought it home and ate it right away!
Deborah Smith
Have been going to Ken's since it opened. Their croissants are worth standing in line for. Of course, there's often a line because Portland loves Ken's!
Sherry Hamilton
Ordered the Hero Sandwich for a picnic lunch. Delicious! Photo included. It came with pickles and chips. We also purchased the biscotti bag of 6 and the Walnut Loaf. I would eat this sandwich again. I would eat this Walnut Loaf bread exclusively if I had a choice. It is so good with loads of toasted walnuts and it toasts beautifully.
Austin Nyenhuis
Everything that I could try in only two visits was absolutely delicious! Some of the best croissants I've ever had, and so many different flavors. As a huge fan of Ken Forkish, this place is a dream come true. Service is fantastic and fast. Can't wait to return.
Devin Dabney (HHLH)
This is a really nice boulangerie-style bakery, with a good selection of bread & pastries, in addition to some creative takes on typical sandwiches. Their croissants, sandwiches and espresso drinks were all pretty good, so overall this is a great place to get any of those; as an added bonus, they boast a great cinnamon roll with pecans added. A must-visit if you are a fan of pastry shops & bread.
Alyssa
Lovely little spot with very kind staff. I ordered the bacon quiche and passion fruit escargot. Soo delicious!
Siok Cheng Tan
Many choices of home-made pastries and I bought a croissant, a pie, and latte. On average the pastry costs around $4ish each. The croissant was savory and special with the herbs. The quiche was soft inside and the crust was crispy.
Grace A
The blood orange tart wasn't super sweet which I like. Pastry cream was good. Also got a chocolate chip cookie that was delicious. Next time I have to try the bread. The line was long I went during lunch rush on a Saturday. But if you take it to go its fast. Good luck finding a table the place is small. But everything was definitely fresh.
Chris Kastner
Ken's is Legit, amazing breads, pastry, cookies, everything. Walked up the hill from the waterfront early on this cold late fall morning. Entered the warm humid bakery atmosphere. Had a few savory pastries. A ham and gruyere croissant, a leek and goat cheese version, and a classic almond as well. Light, delicious, magic and ample. Had a pear in puff pastry for dessert. Fast friendly wonderful people lookin like they were happily toiling away in this deliciously aromatic space. I wish I could eat more slowly, could've hung out there for hours and stuffed myself with everything I was seeing and smelling. Had lunch there last time I was in town, same thing happened, mind blown. Go there.
Olivia
Amazing! You definitely have to get a croissant here they are so good. Though I will have to caution you, if you do get a croissant, all other croissants will fail in comparison and you will be left disappointed with other pastries and danishes hereafter. The outside is crisp and crunchy while the inside is delicate and airy. The croissant is light as a feather and heaven with each bite. We don't travel often, but when we do, we always go to a local bakery for our morning coffee and a baked good, and never have we ever eaten at a bakery that comes close to the deliciousness made at Ken's. We bought bread too and it was equal in deliciousness to the croissant. My daughter often talks about the amazing pastries at Ken's and wants to go again. Note: Their rhubarb danish is superb, their baguette, crunchy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Also, buy more than one per person because you will want a second. My daughter ate her croissant, half of my rhubarb danish and a whole second croissant, she's only five.
**Ken Forkish, you have to write a cookbook for your pastries. We have your bread book.
Margaret Cohen
We ordered almond croissant and veggie quiche. The quiche was the best I've ever eaten! The croissant filling was interesting - I tasted brandy and it wasn't a typical almond flavor which I think is great that they experimented :) it's was crispy outside and soft inside, loved it! I'd recommend coming as early as possible so they're not sold out.
Melody Broten
Absolutely love this little bakery! The croissants are the best in town and they make a very good traditional cappuccino. Seating is limited so arrive early to be able to sit and enjoy all the wonderful smells of fresh baked bread!
Philippe Mousques
One of the best things i’ve had in the USA. Definitely make the stop if you have the chance, and get the goat cheese & leek croissant.
Kelli Bradshaw
Every last thing we got from Ken’s was delectable. The Oregon croissant, jambon beurre, and chocolate chip cookie were standouts.
Adrian White
I hoped it would better. I got a decaf mocha and an almond croissant. The coffee drink was pretty good. That beautiful design in the steamed milk coffeehouses do. But it was really sweet without a solid coffee flavor. The croissant was also filled with a very sweet almond filling and the pastry was a little over baked. Not terrible but none of the subtleties of flavor and texture I would expect for an artisanal bakery. Also it is very expensive but did not seem worth the very high price.
Manish Manchegowda
Best place for morning breakfast
Peter
Another great find in Portland! Excellent French pastry and bread.
MOTO PUMPKIN
Delicious sandwiches, if I hadn't gotten coffee first I would have gotten it here too, will be back for coffee and pastries
Sejin Zhao
Very amazing bakery and cafe. Pastry is on point and I got a Latte art!!!!! I’m so happy with the food and cozy environment!!!! Pear pastry is so good recommend!!
Chrys McK-C
Delicious danish, full of fat blackberries and hidden blueberries. Lentil soup was hot, filling and very tasty. Get there early to get the good stuff!
Judy Scholz
The best bread in Portland. I love Ken's cookbook. It guides you through making pizza in a very user friendly way. I now can make the best pizza crust!
Andy C.
Had a nectarine huckleberry tart and a demi baguette. The tart was very nice, the crust wasn't soggy and the fruit was pleasantly sweet. Lovely presentation too. The demi baguette though omg. Incredible crust on the outside and very moist and chewy on the inside. I'm sure their other breads are amazing as well. I highly recommend Ken's if you like good bread made with French techniques.
Liam Kamp
Ken’s is always a fantastic trip! The staff is friendly if there’s a line it moves quickly! Haven’t had a bad baked good! I enjoy going to this location for Monday night pizza and am still baffled at how crispy they get the crust!
Mark Chase
Tuna on their own bread. Can't beat it. Had a pastry for dessert. Yum!
Kit Lai Pine
Their Boule bread and quiche were very good. I was at the bakery buying a quarter of Boule. The price tag for a quarter of Boule was $6 and hung in front of the bread. I was surprised when I was charged $7 by the young male cashier. When I asked why I was charged a dollar more. The young man didn’t believe me and checked the tablet. When he realized his mistake, he said sorry in a rude way and was not really apologetic. Only after I said he could have the extra dollar as tips did he offer to cancel transaction and redo. It’s not the dollar I cared. It’s really his rude attitude on top of overcharging a customer.
Randy Reyes
Delicious pasteries and bread loaves. The croissants are flaky and the fillings are not too sweet.
Julie Baker
Got a free croissant for donating to GiveGuide - thanks for participating in that, Ken’s! The croissant is really good sized and flakey. They had filled croissants that I will have to try next time.
Also bought a gingerbread and earl grey macaron. Gingerbread filling was especially good. Earl grey was not my favorite but I think it’s an opinion of my flavor preferences and not the bakery.
Try make beautiful cranberry tarts and fruit pastries that I didn’t get a picture of!
J C
As expected! Five stars to their sandwiches. I ordered ken’s hero. $10 comes with the whole sandwich, a side of chips and pickles.
Dan M
Fantastic baked goods and bread. They were warm at 8:15AM, go early. It gets busy. Staff acts like they are worn out from making bread.
Dan G.
The food is great!
We were here on a Saturday around 1pm and it was a little lively but found a seat no problem. There are a few tables in the back toward the bathrooms.
I suggest the Brisket and ask for extra onions. They come on the side.
H B
Believe the hype. This place is seriously, effortlessly good. The savory croissants were amazing, but that one last Grapefruit tart that was left in the display case, turned out to be the single greatest fruit tart of any kind we've ever eaten. Can't wait to return.
Josh Cherry
Absolutely fabulous bakery. I got the Passion Fruit Tart and a Rhubarb Danish and shamelessly ate all of both of them back to back because they were just so delicious. We will definitely be coming back keep up the great work!!
Maddy Liberman
We made a trip to visit after reading Ken's book! Delicious bread and pastries. My partner had the croissant and loved it. I had a ciabatta roll that was pretty good. Could use more vegan options but still really good!
Chau
Flaky pastries. Great to go first thing when they open. Things run out so fast here.
Anubhav Jain
Run, or fly to get here.
The best bakery in town (and perhaps the US). Everything is stellar and so is the service.
Stop reading and go get some. Now!
Joe Sage
Our hike today was an urban hike. The destination, Ken's Artisan Bakery. It's almost like a pilgrimage. Every trip here is fun and tasty.
We arrived early Saturday. Wait in line, order sweet or savory treats with a mocha. Maybe take home some baguettes or boules for later.
The space is cozy. Mostly an adult crowd, though the kids enjoyed their selections and the fun hot chocolate.
Enjoy!
Nicolin Chen
Oregon croissant is a must try! I also tried the goat cheese one, but it tasted just okay to me.
Zoe Z
Came in early afternoon and most pastries ran out. I got the morning bun and cannot stop until I finished it all. Simple flavor but tasty!
Rae Duvall
I absolutely love this place! The general aesthetic of the bakery is very hip, fresh and fun. The staff are super nice and always working so hard and the food is delicious. So many unique twists on different dishes you won't find anywhere else. This is a very special place and I highly recommend it! You won't be disappointed I promise!
Curtis Brent Bozeman
Nice atmosphere. Great bakery items, and very unique. We absolutely loved it.
Matt E
Went here two consecutive mornings while I was in Portland. Like everyone else, they were a little low on inventory for certain things but even with that what they had was delicious. Many times a patisserie will not have good coffee but that's not the case here. My almond latte was delightful.
Nicole Stafford
the butter croissants are to die for, and the goat cheese and leek croissant is ✨. they make a perfect baguette, crunchy crackle on the outside and soft on the inside. they do great sack lunches on bakery fresh bread. the sandwiches come with chips and pickles. they also serve great coffee from Proud Mary.
XN W
almond croissant and morning bun are awesome! A must try!
Rustin Lindblad
Amazing bread. I drive over the the bridge once a week for the bread. Nobody in clark/cowlitz County has good bread. Kens bread is better than cheeseboard in Berkeley, model bakery in Napa or Bouchon by Thomas keller. Great plain croissants as well. I've only had the bread and plain croissants.
D M
Great bread (make sure to go early so it’s fresh) and also great pastries. The Oregon croissant or morning bun is my favorite. Also have a decent lunch (sandwich) menu starting at 11am.
Brian Hall
The ham and gruyere croissant was excellent. Really good pastries here
Vivian Anne
Friendly staff. I had the passion fruit escargot and it was AMAZING. I would highly recommend coming here if you enjoy pastries.
Lucy Pan
The bakery is good, love the Oregon Croissant! Customer service is nice too
Sasha Vafaei
Best bread in the hood! No vegan pastries, not much for vegan lunches either. Also wish they opened earlier.
Marissa Viszolay
Excellent customer service & incredible bread. Ken’s is officially my favorite bakery in Portland.
Jean Chaumont
I took a picture for you of their croissant: perfect alveolar texture. Everything I tried was yummy and in the respect of good French bakery tradition. (I’m french ahah)
Joey Gatsby
Line moved fast on a Saturday morning, food is good and fresh, but the person who was working on coffee gave 3 people their coffee before mine even though they were after me
Karn Teerakarnanan
Chocolate chip cookies are out of this world
Ranjan Lamichhane
This place is really good. We got the soup and grilled cheese, rhubarb macaron, lemon meringue tart, leek croissant, and all of them were delicious. Their coffee is great as well. The only issue is the seating is limited, but both times I've been there I was able to find a table.
George Zabel
Every baked item here is phenomenal. We regularly buy the country #2 bread, and it's a great place to hang out drinking your coffee, as well. Just about every visit, my reaction to my first bite of the pastries is an audible "wow."
Chloe Shields
Wish I had come here sooner! The goat cheese and leek croissant was possibly the best pastry I've ever had, and the oat milk latte was delicious as well. We finished our pastries and then immediately got back in line to buy more for our early morning flight tomorrow!
Jasmine Fi
I liked the sandwich I got so much (egg salad) I bought a loaf of the bread it was made with (pain rustique) to take home. By far some of the best made bread I’ve had. The Oregon Croissant was perfectly sweet and tart. I would have been willing to try any of their sandwiches or delicious pastries. From out of town but will definitely be going back again!
Timothy Rice
Ken's has the best pastries in town.
I'm not unbiased however, as I (Tidy Tim's Produce Stand) supply a lot of the local fresh berries they use.
Chris
Great selection, I had the goat cheese and leek croissant and it was delicious.
James Penney
Ken’s was by far the best stop of our weekend trip to Portland. It was so good that we had to get an order to go.
Kate Mueller
Hands-down the best pastries I've had outside of France, and some incredibly friendly staff. The ambience here was great for writing, too
Eva Roupcová
Amazing! We came here for the breakfeast two times when we were in Portland. Everything was delicious! Best was Oregon Croissant.
Mark B
Ken Forkish quietly left Portland, but his 20 year legacy as a baker here lives on. Recently had a sandwich and salad. The price was modest the taste was large. The breads I got were made from flour water salt yeast and MAGIC.
Christine P.
Yummy baked goodies. Our first time I was there I got 2 baguettes, 1 country #2, ham & cheese croissant and they were all excellent. Highly recommend,

Ken's artisan bakery has been a great addition to the Portland Community. Thank you Ken for the great bread.
Cathy
Truly the best croissants in Portland, try the delicious savory croissants. Great coffee too! Expect to stand in line like anywhere that’s really good in Portland, it’s worth it!
B T
Great meal. High quality ingredients. Nice atmosphere. Popular for a reason!
I'm lucky to have this spot only be 2 blocks away.
Angelo DeBlase
Our son lives here in Portland. He took us here, everything was very good.
Must stop if you’re in Portland
Laurie Edmond
Super delicious will made food and beverages. Such an absolute delight!
K H
Whoever Ken may be, he's a genius. The best bakery/patisserie I've been to in the USA, period. Everything baked in a traditional french bakery and patisserie style so the pastries such as the tartes and croissants are simply layers and layers of fluffy dough and crispy, flaky exteriors. Then he adds some great flavors to many of the items including passion fruit in some, rhubarb in others, that result in perfection. But even the regular items excel, including the croissant and particularly the morning bun!
Sourabh Jain
A really good bakery. Their Oregon croissant is delicious. It is crisp outside and filled with delicious berries. It had raspberry, blackberry and blueberry. Other stuff is nice too. Usually their is s line though and it may move slowly you plan for that. Parking is mostly street side. Usually there are spots available.
Katalin Morton
The Oregon Croissant was very delicious. Light and airy croissant dough is clearly what makes this place great, and the refreshing berry and sugar combination made this the perfect grab and go breakfast.
Efi Tsouko
On my trip to Portland for a weekend I went both days for breakfast at this place! Try everything! It's delicious !!
Life is Short
I went to buy bread here for the first time and I don't think I'll go anywhere else for the same purpose. All this time I've been buying stone sticks at Costco called baguette, until now. The bread and the pastries are made by experienced hands. The proof is in trying a few and judging for yourself.
dave lambert
Absolutely amazing. This place is the pride of our NW PDX neighborhood. Sandwiches, soups, salads, coffee, and ..oh, yeah. Bread and pastries of the gods and goddesses. All made by some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. (Maybe immortals. Beyond my ken.)
El Steele
Incredible pastries. Some of the best I’ve had.
Waira Urbizagastegui
Just moved from California to Portland Oregon. This is the hard part about moving to a new area. I ordered the roast beef sandwich. Whoever made it stuffed the last little bit of the tail end of lettuce into my sandwich. This was at the end of the sandwich not even spread out evenly. The meat was the same way. There was more onion than meat. I’ll never have a sandwich from here ever again. The baguette and croissant I ordered were delightful. The only reason I’m giving a 3 star and not a 1 is because of the Babette and croissant.

This place has phenomenal baked goods. My son has loved the chocolate croissants (pain au chocolat) since he was 1 year old. The lunch sandwiches on the menu are usually very good as well. I consider this place to be a Portland gem, and would recommend if you haven't tried this then try it the next time you get a chance.
Today Ken himself came out and was handing out mini chocolate croissants to everyone standing in line. My son was beyond happy to get one, while waiting. It was a very kind gesture and just another point to how this place is a local gem.
Sam Russell
Maybe I chose poorly (limited selection as I got there 30 min before closing on a weekend), but I wasn't wowed by the Ciabatta loaf or the baguette. The Ciabatta was better than the baguette as the baguette really needed to be denser, chewier and moister. I didn't see it on the menu, but my cousin uses this bakeries recipe for pizza dough and says it is fantastic and worth the 2 days of prep.
Bekah Galang
Great all around bakery. Their laminates are on point, they have a wide variety without compromising the quality of product and their bread is delicious. Ken literally wrote the book (one of the best) on bread and his bakery still lives every word.
Andy Lin
Baked good are yummy. There is a small wait in the morning when it first opened, parking is somewhat difficult, there are spaces, if you look for enough down the street. The selections seem small? I wonder if it's due to covid, wouldn't mind coming again if we come back to visit Portland.
Heather
They have a wide and tasty pastry and dessert selection, friendly staff, and delicious coffee. I loved pairing a rhubarb croissant with a cappuccino. The buttery sweetness of the croissant offset the coffee flavors very nicely. I also really enjoyed the flaky, buttery and slightly tart ciabatta breads. Enjoy!
Kayla Feil
The croissants were comparable to those in France. So buttery and delicious. I had a roast beef sandwich and the portion size was bigger than I anticipated. The bread of the sandwich was very hearty. The bakery is in a super fun and hip area of Portland. I have found a great new place to take my family when they come to visit!
Saad Jubran
Coffee is so good! And everything in the store was amazing 😍 …
Cassidy Bliven
Recently moved to the area and always see a line out the door here. Usually an overhyped spot falters to live up to such hype - Ken's isn't one of them. Stopped in for a $4 loaf of raisin pecan bread. We ate it with sautéed bok choy, mushrooms, and a fried egg. Later we toasted it up again as a snack. Right before bed, we finished it off straight out the bag with a bit of butter. 10/10.
Kha Dang
Pretty decent but I have had better pastries in Houston
Christine Arroyo
This place was awesome and the associates where great. The food was out of this world. Thank You
Margaret D'Amico
Went here this weekend. My friend got the croissant and I got a slice of the quiche. The croissant was buttery and flakey. The quiche was superb. I got the meat one. The bacon or ham in the quiche is really want made it amazing-- although the flakey crust didn't hurt either. I will definitely be back.
Katherine Shields
This is a happy bustling place even at 10 am. They had just flipped over the reader board to lunchtime service. I had come for breakfast but the egg salad sandwich was fantastic. I love the canele so much, and my husband can eat them. I'm glad that Portland has so many nice little spots this place is a great one!
SJ Carter
The sandwiches are great, as are the tarts and other desserts. However the croissants are over-rated. Perhaps they are better when they just come out of the oven, but the croissant I tried was not moist and frankly tasted about average.
This place does get crowded during the lunch hour, so be prepared to stand in line 5-10mns) and if you are with multiple people, have someone in your party snag a table as soon as one is available.
Kellin Bonilla
Seriously exceptional bread.
I've never been here for breakfast, though it is particularly hopping on the weekends. Food and coffee appear to be basic, but well composed.
The pastries are hand crafted and reasonably priced. But, I rarely come here for anything except the bread. It's a wonderful thing to have an artisan bakery in the neighbourhood.
Baguettes are great, and my personal favourite is the walnut bread. It's dark, dense & delicious. I've had it in loaf form and as a baguette and both are superb.
Central location on NW 21st makes this place busy, especially in the mornings and on weekends. My only (slightly) critical comment would be that it's a long wait for a loaf of bread when it's busy. Go here when it's slow or you're not in a hurry.
Oleg Pilipenko
Consistently good. Only one place in Portland where you could get a decent baguette, ficelle is my favorite... I wish they have another location in Beaverton
Rebekah Zahedi
Ken's was one of the top highlights of my visit to Portland. During my trip, I visited on four separate occasions and ordered something different each time - everything was absolutely delicious. I actually bought the "Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast" cookbook after my trip because I missed the wonderful breads and wanted to recreate the experience at home. Highly recommend Ken's, but caution - you won't want to leave!
Bree Lao
Tuna salad was very good. The use of lemon- mint - greens made it taste very special. Croissant was soft in the inside and crispy on outside. The goat Asiago leek croissant 🥐 was perfect. I love the crustiness and the unique combination of salty- crusty- leek-taste. The fruit tart is like a small party of flavors. I loved everything!!! …
Madhuja Samaddar
Ken's bakery definitely was one of the most memorable stops of our food trip through Portland. If you are looking for a cafe with some delightful French fare, look no further because it's totally worth a visit (and possibly more) even if you are driving from across town. Their croissants are the stars and in addition to the usual suspects (chocolate!), we also tried a savory goat cheese and leek croissant which I'm having a hard time forgetting! The brownie was decadent and truly delightful and macarons certainly among the most luscious I've tried anywhere. I also quite liked a very rustic 'seasonal upside down cake' with fresh peaches. My only regret is that we couldn't visit them a second time during our trip!
Natalie Brown
Fantastic bread and pastries, easily the best in Portland. The lunch menu is pretty good too. The prices are reasonable considering how popular the place can be. It's a cool location. Lunch is only served 11 to 3, so keep that in mind. I wish they would go back to distributing their bread to whole foods!
James Wood
Ken's has been a fixture in NW for many many years. It's always really good, and I like the space a lot. I ordered a soup and sandwich combo, the lentil soup was really surprisingly good for a seemingly simple dish. I got the pulled pork sandwich, which also tasted good but was a smaller than expected portion.
Their pastries and breads are also top notch. Try the morning bun.
Sean Marsula
Amazing pastries, breads, and sandwiches. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. We had the chocolate croissant, sausage quiche, jamon baguette sandwich, carrot soup, and an eclair; each were among the best we've had. Breads has crispy crusts with soft, well-textured crumb. The pastries were flaky but not greasy or overly rich. The soup and a good, complex balance of flavors. I would be a regular here if I lived in Portland.
Joseph Lee
got the Oregon croissant, ham and guyere croissant, and quarter boule. all three were amazing - croissants were buttery and flaky, and the bread tasted great even without any butter or jam.

Various delicious breads. Willing to revisit.

One of the finest bakeries I’ve ever been to, phenomenal artisan bread. Wonderfully tasty pastries. The only downside is its popularity.
Monday night is Ken’s pizza night at the bakery (free loaf of bread with pizza order). The pizza is awesome!
Robyn Beers
Ken's bread and pastries are the best. I feel lucky to have this bakery within walking distance of my home!
Diep Nguyen
So good! Pleasantly surprised by how gourmet everything tasted. Croissant was so flakey and buttery. The quiche would have been nicer heated up, but delicious nevertheless. Not just a basic bakery. Worth the visit if you’re in the area.

Ken's is the best French bakery in Portland for at least 8 years.
Their breads, croissants, desserts, everything, are all made every day fresh from scratch. The owner had training in France and it shows. This is where you go when you want consistent, high quality foods and flavors.
Get there early, before 4pm. The earlier the better so you can have your pick before they sell out.
Everything is made with great ingredients and with care. You can really taste how much better this place is than all the other French bakeries in Portland. For 8 years Ken's has been my favorite, and I've tried them all.
Ken's is always a little busy. But the wait is not long, the nice staff are very quick and helpful. Most of their customers already know what they want and are coming back for more.
This place is making high end, high quality, fresh, from scratch, French bread and deserts that taste wonderful.
Croissant -is perfect, flaky , crunchy , layers, nice middle and golden brown outside. Buy 2. They disappear like a delicious cloud.
Breads- all fresh and never dry
Opera cake-decadent, good layers
Tarts -seasonal fruits, grapefruit is my favorite, but I love every seasonal flavor they make. I could eat too many.
Canelés - better than in Paris. kind of miraculous-. They can warm them up at Ken's, if you ask, I think that is it. I've seen French women almost get mad that the Canelés are so good at Ken''s in Portland.
This bakery is consistently great and never disappoints.
If you need a pleasant and delicious start to your day, a decadent brunch or a lunch that won't disappoint, this is the place. I buy my friends desserts from Ken's when they need a little cheering up. I know I can count on everything they sell, to be excellent every time.
Ken's is worth it. Get there early and enjoy.

The best and I mean THE BEST bakery on NW 23rd & surrounding area. They always have a great selection at reasonable prices and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The croissants are to die for (compared to what I had in France for five weeks, although more expensive) and everything else is way above average!
Ingrid Arnason
The very best European style bread, excellent coffee drinks and delicious sweet things from a perfect hazelnut pound cake to fancy fruit tarts imaginatively decorated. There are also very good savory items for breakfast, lunch, and brunch. Everything is always fresh. I am an enthusiastic regular visitor!
Juliet De La Huerga
While over priced the food here is good for what it is. After trying lots of things, my favorite is the turkey sandwich, although the BBQ sandwich is pretty good too. The brownies are a MUST! The bread is always delicious. The other desserts, while all very good, are pretty overpriced. Besides the brownies, the only other pastry that I consider worth paying a little extra for are the seasonal tarts.
K R Culbertson
What can I say that hasn't been said about the breads and patisserie in this shop? The owner, Ken Forkish, is a genius with local ingredients to make baked goods we always thought we couldn't expect in Portland.
This shop is run beautifully. Everything is fresh and well-made. Espresso drinks are top-flight. Sandwiches and salads are seasonal and delicious. This has all been said by others. If I still lived on 23rd Avenue, I would be there every day.
Dana Demeter
We went for pizza night Monday (they're opened until 9:30) and had a great experience. The pizza crust was delicious, but the sauce was spicier than we expected. We got two little hazelnut shortbread cookies with our bill and let us leave with a free loaf of bread at the end of the night bc they were closing. Friendly service, too.
Vittoria Le
Good meat/veggie/sauce ratio in roast beef sandwich, warmed croissant was heavenly, and the sourdough loaf we packed for the rest of the trip was enjoyed to the last crust.
Valérie Corno
I'm a French Canadian and we do really good bread and croissants in Montreal. I'm glad to have found this bakery, they make good chocolate croissants that reminds me of home! And the bread is 👌 definitely recommend! …
Isa Christensen
Literally to die for leak and goat cheese croissant! Everything there is 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 …
Luis Valente
Great bread and sandwiches. We had the Croque Monsieur and another with Portobello mushrooms and they were both excellent. The pastries were very good too. The coffee was well served but the blend was unremarkable.
Dennis Cao
On our first trip to Portland, my wife and I just happened to stop by this bakery to grab a quick bite on our way to the coast. What a way to start our trip into the area. The high reviews of Ken's I think are 100% accurate and honestly words cannot express how I feel about this bakery. We had an extremely difficult time deciding what we wanted to try and if we had more time and more importantly, stomach space, we very well have tasted everything.
We ended up trying their personalized carrot cake, a maccaron, an almond croissant, oh and a loaf of their award winning sourdough bread; you know for the road. Words won't do it justice, just give yourself the opportunity to go here and treat yourself with their delicatessens. This should be on the the list of any baked goods fan.
Naveed B
Goat cheese and leek was really good. Meat Quiche was so so. Definitely not great cold. Croissants were good... I just like mine a little fresher/warmer
Melanie Kurimchak
The fist thing i noticed when i walked in was the amazing aroma of baked goods. Mmmmm. My vanilla latte was delicious and the pastries we tried were really yummy. My hubby and I sat in the cafe for about an hour enjoying our coffee and pastries and people watching. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was eclectic and buzzing. Definitely worth a stop in!
Roland
This place is the best. Everything is always EXACTLY right. Half the time when I come here for a baguette, I eat half of it on the walk home.
christopher Johnson
Good croque monsieur sandwich. The chocolate croissant was just ok. Cookies were really good. Price were high on Saturday me items but there are values to be found in the pastry case. Spend some money and try a few items!
Dawn Long
Great morning spot with cozy seating and perfect upbeat staff. I had the veggie quiche, an almond croissant and house coffee; all of it was prepared well and just right portions. Definitely a place I will be visiting often.
Marn-Yee Lee
We stayed nearby and were so happy to be able to have breakfast here regularly. Many types of croissants, and quiches. Everything for breakfast is good. Didn't get to try their cakes. Look into window by the side of 21st St to see some baking in action.
Miguel Arbusto
The bread is amazing and the staff are always super friendly and responsive. Very reasonable priced, too. It's always really crowded, but that's to be expected as this place is one it Portland's staple restaurants - if you're visiting from out of town, make sure to stop by. And try the walnut roll. It's divine.
Alyssa Ostrander
Ken's is simply the best bakery anywhere. I love their walnut rolls, that also come in baguettes and loaves. But that's just a hint of the spread of delicacies they serve. So many amazing pastries, tarts, cakes (and more!) as well as delicious fresh green salads and sandwiches. If you've been there you'll agree they do incredible work to bring you the freshest and most delicious food!
Matt Hollingsworth
Awesome pastries, friendly staff, and reasonable prices!
Lauren Zanko
The name speaks for itself, this is an artisan bakery. Every loaf is like a work of art and it tastes just as good. The Oregon Croissant is something you need to try - berries, hazelnut, everything good. You can't go wrong no matter what you try.
Michell Kim
I always make sure to stop by Ken's at least once when I'm the area. The best thing about Ken's is the quality-- when you eat a sandwich, you expect to love it for the filling. But not only is the stuff inside delicious, but the bread really takes it to another level. Their soup is always amazing, and I love getting a baguette to go for home. Also, grab a cookie on the way out. Crispy yet soft?? Witchcraft
Jonathan Huang
Really enjoyed the ham, cheese, gruyere croissant. The passion fruit escargot was good too (very passion fruity and liked the croissant dough)
Katarina Neufeld
We stayed in Portland for a few days and ended up eating here for breakfast every morning because it was SO GOOD! The croissants are amazing, especially the ham & gruyere. Seems very tied in to the local community, which is cool.
whvtitiz w
The croissant in their fresh baked items with goat cheese and ?? Was absolutely delicious! It's vegetarian and no meat. It was flakey and full of flavor with out overdoing it. Light on the cheese. Not very heavy. Nice light morning snack and excellent drip coffee by stumptown. There egg salad sandwich is also amazing. I don’t think I ever have ordered an egg salad sandwich before but it was the best egg salad sandwich I have ever had. LOL. Recommended to me by the helpful staff. Good stuff
Andrew Pikul
I've don't go here nearly as much as I would like but that's probably for the best. Their wares are rich and delicious. I recommend the Gruyere & ham croissant or the sausage quiche. Both great ways to start your day. It does get a bit crowded during the late morning but it's worth the wait. They also do pizza on Monday nights but they sell out very quickly.
Andy Wong
Excellent pastries, coffee and tea. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere.
Shannon Stock
The most delicious baked goods in town! Try the Ham and thyme croissant. Good speedy service, there is often a line. Wonderful menu with a great selection of beverages. In a cute neighborhood near shopping
J L
So good we came here for breakfast every day of our weekend getaway. Everything we had was great: the ham quiche, gruyere cheese and thyme croissant, berry croissant. They have coffee and the New York Times. You can watch them baking up a storm in the window. Wanted to try the desserts: tarts, macaroons with fresh fruit filling, cake slices....

Ken's was brought to my attention after I ate at Checkerboard Pizza at Pine Street Market. The morning buns were calling my name, but it was already pretty late and I figured I wouldn't be able to eat anymore that night. Seeing that it was from Ken's (pizza owner, baker, and James Beard award winner!), I made a mental note to visit before I left Portland.
This particular Ken's is located on 21st Street in the Alphabet District. Parking is again - street parking. But luckily we were able to grab some close spots. Even coming around the afternoon, we found that the bakery was still quite crowded. And there were a lot of baked goods and desserts that caught my eye. Not only do they offer variety of sweets, but they also have savory sandwiches served during lunch from 11-3.
I knew I had to try the morning bun. I don't remember the price except that it was under $5. I believe it was cheaper than Tartine's $4.20 for their morning bun. And I have to say that I really enjoyed the bun from Ken's way more than Tartine's. This morning bun was flaky and had that crackle as I bit into it, yet the inside was soft and fluffy and buttery. I loved the cinnamon and sugary taste, and it was just enough to give the fluffy inside enough sweetness. Even my parents agreed that it was really tasty. Tartine's morning bun has a hint of orange to it and while it is unique, I didn't really like that fresh acidity with the sweetness of the bun. So having Ken's morning bun be sweet and not too cloying or sticky, I thought it was the perfect balance - and would go great next to a cup of coffee.
I really wanted to order the almond croissant, but they were fairly huge. And so I went with the fresh blackberry macaron, just because it looked amazing. And the price point of $3 wasn't too bad considering the plump blackberries in the middle. I wasn't sure what to expect - and I haven't been as big a fan of macarons as I used to be, but this macaron was amazing! The fresh buttercream in the middle really sealed the whole treat together. Blackberries were sweet with just a hint of acidity while the shells were soft and crumbly. Taking a bite into the dessert, I just felt it melt in my mouth and I knew I wanted to close my eyes and savor the bite. It was that good! They really created a party in your mouth because the cream and fruit and macaron shells - were all amazing.
Workers are super friendly and energetic. Loved the vibe that I got from the bakery. There were customers chatting, some reading, others working on stuff - made me want to sit there and read a book while eating my treats as well. Very Earthy tones to the bakery - tables made out of wood with feathers engraved. Some communal tables as well.
And the presentation of all the goodies - the cakes, the breads, everything! If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend you try Ken's while you're in Portland. One of my favorite finds, and I'm so glad I got the chance to try their morning bun! Prices are worth the quality! If I lived close by, I'd be there once a week.
Adriana Kincaid
Delicious bread, great pastry. They have a lunch menu for after 10a

Such tastey croissants and baked treats! Can't wait to try the fresh granola for breakfast tomorrow. Service was quick and super friendly!

The Honest Truth
- parking is limited and pay parking on street. $2.00 per hour.
- bathrooms are behind cafe in a seperate building. Clean.
- staff are great and are happy to help.
- kid friendly
- dishes are clean.
- high quality brownie, one pound chocolate cake, truffle, and hazelnut cake were unique and fresh.
Would recommend a visit!
Christopher Chen
Best bread in Portland! Get the Ken's hero! Get the cappicola pizza on Monday! Get here!
Gaofei Shen
Got a bacon quiche, a croissant and banh mi. The quiche wasn't heated enough but it's still very good. Croissant is quite good and the banh mi is the star of the show. Will definitely come back, hopefully next time the quiche will be properly warm!
Susan S. McClellan
My husband and I enjoyed great sandwiches and cookies. We sat at a shady table outside. I was happy to see that the staff was observing all Covid 19 protocols.
Kaydee Barker
Heard that Ken's had the best croissants in the U.S., and after having one, I believe it. Also tried their fresh seasonal galette (which is miniature and adorable) and their country bread, and everything was amazing! They serve Stumptown Coffee and are very friendly. Would definitely recommend them to any friends visiting Portland.
Alexander Schmidt
I've been visiting the U.S. for 6 weeks, and this is the only bakery that has really good bread. The "Parisian baguette" is authentically crusty, not like the rubber they sell anywhere else. The french rye bread is tasty and nourishing.
Elliot Lisac
If you're in NW and are looking for baked goods, this is the place to go. There will always be a line, so don't plan on being able to rush in and rush out. The prepared foods are excellent and they've got ample seating if you want to sit back and enjoy some coffee to go with your quiche.
Keshava Betts
An iconic bakery! The staff were very kind. The bread is incredible, and the prices are reasonable. If I lived in Portland I'd be here all the time. Great pastry too!
Alyssa Marie Gillon
One of my favorite bakeries in Portland. I love the lemon and rose/raspberry croisants, passionfruit tart, lemon meringue tart, very nice caneles and seasonal macarons. Great pizza, sandwiches, soups, of course breads... and nice espresso too 👍 perfect environment for reading while you enjoy or for lively conversation. …
Jonathan Leonard
This bakery has the reputation of the best bread in Portland and I would agree. You can smell Kens blocks away and they offer fantastic bread and pastries made fresh every day. Their pizza night is excellent and the lounge and coffee area is very comfortable especially in the summer with the windows open. Coffee is ok and I found it tepid on a few occassions since they brew and collect in thermoses.
Christina Morra
Just thinking about this place makes me happy. The first time I went here, they were offering samples of their passion fruit tart and their macarons, very generous-sized pieces. I was sold.
I love their croissants (especially the goat cheese and asparagus) and their vegetable quiche -- and of course their macarons.
Annie Kendall
Everything here is excellent. The bread, the pastries, the quiche, the sandwiches.. *chef's kiss*. The line can get a little long, but 100% worth the wait.
randy parman
Good vibe.. the crew acted like they wanted our business. Lunch was so good my sandwich with salami, cheese & pickled onions was tasty. Going back soon.
Angie B.
Phenomenal. These gorgeous pastries taste even BETTER than they look! I got a box of 4 items to take home...I'm in my car...with an empty box. Totally worth it, and great coffee too! Delicious!
Becca Brown
Yum! Had a tuna salad sandwich on croissant, cup of soup, capuccino, and berry croissant. Date hade the Hero and a tea. The croissants were flaky and crispy, perfect, and hard to find in the pnw. Tuna salad was fine, not impressive. Service was quick. Well worth a visit.
Trent Husak
Loved this place. We were visiting from out of town and refused to go anywhere else for breakfast. Their ham, thyme and gruyere cheese croissant was phenomenal and I highly recommend it. Also best smells this side of the river!
Exhaustq_Y T
Most amazing food and awesome atmosphere. I would highly recommend to friends and family. The price is cheap for such amazing food. I love this place and will be back soon

The best sandwiches and Bread abd pastries
Anna von See
Delicious bread and very friendly staff! Best Croissant’s I had outside of France!
Ryan M
Great food, good prices, nice people!

Found this place while on vacation and would definitely recommend Ken's Bakery to anyone visiting Portland who enjoys French pastries. Their butter croissants are some of the best I've had! Must try.
Lee Boucher
Delicious food (I highly recommend both the croque portobello and the passion fruit tart, but everything I've tried is delicious)
All in a laid back, cute cafe environment that is quiet enough to easily have conversations, or concentrate on a book or work. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with tables of varying sizes indoors that can accommodate larger groups or cozy 1 or 2 person visits. You can also get your food to go.
Shaun Tan
Goat cheese and leek was very unique and tasty
Butter crossaint was average but still 5 stars due to the goat cheese and leek crossaint
Aviar Couillard
The best bread in town. Period. In fact one of the best bakeries I've ever been to. We often buy gorceries elsewhere and stop here just for a fresh loaf of bread. Highly recommend it if you're in the area. Sandwiches and other food is deceint but really it's all about that bread.
Darren Pinney
Fantastic bread, friendly service. Love the flavor on the 3 kilo boule. Wife thinks that’s way too much bread, but I think I’m buying another one!
Mike T
Amazing croissants with unique flavors! We came back a second time. Get there early (before ~9am) to skip the lines. Good coffee too.
Anne-Claire Weil
We have tested the bread really nice but every time too much cooked and it affects a little note the taste of the bread which is a pity ! Price are expensive three time than in France it s only flour salt and water it is such a business in USA but the place is nice and staff very friendly as usual you should try this bakery definitely the Best in Town !!!
Karen Edwards
Delicious food. We waited a little longer than I was expecting but if I didn't have the kids with me, I probably wouldn't have minded. Very limited seating and little voices carry. Great for a cheapish lunch that doesn't skimp on quality.
Carrieaf
Good coffee. Good choc. Chip cookie. We went at a busy time and had to wait a couple minutes for people to leave so we could sit at a table. There are steps to go up to get into the bakery which could be a pain with a wheelchair. My friend helped me with my stroller.
Andrew Moon
They were nice. Great soup but a little too crowded.
Jay Combs
Cozy little place where parking is non existent except for metered street. Seating can sometimes be tight because the place is very popular and the location is very small. It's all worth it for the excellent pastries and sandwiches and breads that are available here. Certain things not to miss are the delicious crossiants, Macaroon cookies and the cannales. Service is fast and friendly.
Xess Dx
I have a theory: some dark night in the misty past, "Ken" (if that is his real name) met the "Dark Lord" and sold his soul for the ability to make the perfect croissant. Oh, they'll try and distract you with the large pocket windows that make the space bright and airy (and open the space completely when weather is good). They'll pull sleight of hand with colourful fruit tarts that are as delicious as they are beautiful. But make no mistake: dark arts are at work here. Has to be the case. They make croissants that are always transcendent. Light, flaky, but with tooth, get there right at open and they'll still be warm. No need for a Valrhona chocolate croissant (though they exist there and are delicious), the regular croissant is just sublime. Breads are excellent, and one of the large country blonde loafs is a great thing to bring to a dinner party. Will be enjoyed more than flowers. Solid sandwiches as lunchtime. Stumptown coffee if you're so inclined. Parking is on-street and often hard to come by. Service obnoxious, but irrelevant as it's counter service and you're there for the food. But seriously, you must try the croissant. And then weep with joy.
Richard-Patrick Cromwell
I love their pastries! Always a good choice for a morning pick me up! Though the coffee is just okay, go across the street to Sterling for a proper cup to go with that amazing blackberry tart!
MO
excellent bread offers and baguette sandwiches.
Smalls
Always great lattes and kind service. This place can get swamped by tourists in the summer, so I usually go early [ for the peace and quiet, of course, but also very much for first choice of the breads and pastries! ;) ]
Melissa Ellis
This bakery was rated one of the top 25 bakeries in the world by QANTAS magazine so we came from Australia to try it! Worth the trip. Oregon croissant was delish.
Jessica Haverstock
Absolutely delicious pastries! The ham and gruyere is a personal favorite. Truly don’t hesitate to try one of each!
Matthew Hogan
Sandwiches are great and match their quality of bread! Plus a great place to chug a bottle of beer before a timbers game as apparently they don't sell a lot of beer so the beer they have is surprisingly affordable!
David Kendall
Beautiful desserts and pastries. The atmosphere is casual with a bistro feel. I had the seasonal salad which had gorgeous roasted zucchini and a light vinaigrette topped with pine nuts. I would definitely try this again.
Liz Andrew
Almost always busy...makes it hard to find seating. Yet great coffee and pretty much any pastry you get there is gonna be delicious. I recommend the ham, thyme, and gruyere croissant.
Haleh Nekoorad Long
Great bakery and the breads look like art, they taste delicious too. The salad was great. The sandwich was good, wish it had more meat.
Sean Khuon-Paige
The front door was turned into a to-go only kiosk, and the orders are filled very quickly. Love this bakery and will definitely return since they seem to take social distancing rules very seriously, thanks Ken!
Linda Grigorik
This has been on my list of places to try since I started reading Ken Forkish's bread making book. His baked goods are soooooo scrumptious! I seriously wish I have three stomaches to fit everything. The Oregon croissant is a must try, it's a berries croissant with chunky hazelnut cream. His macarons are chewy and not overly sweet, perfect to my taste bud! I seriously love this bakery!
Marc Thayer
If you're in a rush, don't order anything requiring preparation or cooking. Pick something from the display case or something very basic to go.
Otherwise, if you have time to sit and enjoy the ambience, everything on the menu is fair game. During lunchtime, I always try their banh mi, which has its own Pacific NW twist on the traditional version. Their French macarons also usually have very unique flavors going on.
The first time I went by myself, I ordered a blackberry tart, and it looked so pretty I almost didn't want to eat it. The tart was also piled with full, ripe blackberries. Needless to say, it was delicious!
Travis Dailey
Baller authentic french pastries. Almond croissants are 2nd best I've ever had (Baker Noveau in Seattle #1), and the Oregon Croissant is unique and yummy. Coffee is great, too.
Jacob B
It's become a tradition that every time I visit Portland, I stop at Kens for a Morning Bun. Pipping hot and fresh from the oven it's a small taste of heaven. Combined with the friendly staff and terrific coffee, it keeps me coming back.
Andres Cimmarusti
Best croissant outside of France I've ever had. Great bread too! Their walnut baguette or loaf is fantastic. I go here often
Angela W
OMG good pastries! This place uses quality ingredients and old fashioned methods to create fabulous food. Their breads are outstanding, and everything else bears the mark of quality. Definitely a place you want to visit if you are in the area.

The olive fougasse is so so good. Everything is. The opera cake! Pizza Mondays! A simple baguette! You can't go wrong. I love this place.
Lee Chong
The best granola ever. ty ken artisan's!!!😍 …
Danielle Raichel
Seasonal eats are always amazing. No fruitful seasonal macs just yet, but I know they are coming. Breakfast quiches are always yummy. Go for lunch! Sandwiches are amazing
Tim Myers
Every thing Ken Forkish does is fantastic. The hazelnut bundt cake was amazing. Super delicate cake, smooth icing. The Bahn Mi sandwich wasn't bad either - could have used a little more filling.
Ahmed Al Khenaizi
Freshly bread. The Granola is rich of real whole nuts
Madie Chadwell
Everything was amazing and I loved it all! Would go back all the time if I lived in the area. Bread and pastries were all amazing!
Ian Tornay (crash7800)
Pretty good sandwiches, amazing pastries. The berry pastry is too good. Stumptown coffee is served well at a fair price. Not a lot of seating! Free wifi.
Andrew Nelson
Unlike many places billing themselvs as a "bakery", Ken's attention is equally focused on breads (standard and specialty items), small meals, and pastries/sweets. I was in today looking for some bread to snack on, but all the offerings were too large. I'd like to see more snack-sized bread options.
Nicole Callison
The leek and goat cheese croissant was so dang good I got emotional over it. You gotta try it!
Dia Kimm
I love good delicious food especially quiche... their crust is exceptional!
Jeff Wooden
Two words: Morning Bun. Everything is great here. I love the country brown bread, the tarts, croissant, etc. But, the morning buns are a thing of dreams. That and a cup of stumptown or a cappucino and I'm a happy guy.
Hai C
Great macs, but rated lower for value. 2.75 each. Bought 5, they threw them in a box without any tissue and not surprisingly, several got smashed from rolling around. At the price they are charging, they should have mac carriers or put more thought into the transport.
Ethan Wade
Great spot for lunch!
Samuel House
The service is excellent. The pastries are delicious. The drip coffee had too high of a water to grounds ratio though, but that changes from batch to batch.
Gobi gobi
Great croissants, cookies and baguettes!
Natacha Sorenson
Best croissants ever. Delicious goat cheese with leek. The Oregon croissant was amazing too. Top bakery in the country.
Dave Lackman
The owner/baker Ken Forkish is a James Beard award winner. The bakery specializes in Levian style breads. This means crusts that are firm and chewy with soft and airy interiors. I love Ken's interpretation of the Hero sandwich with a selection of local meats and cheese. yum!! You can park across the street at the neighboring restaurant for free. The croissants are buttery, flaky and utterly amazing.
Chris Stone
Great coffee and pastries. Ken's makes some great pastries that were meant to accompany coffee. The coffee is great and made skilfully. I had the palmier and is probably the best I have had in the city.
Marc Schluper
We live in a French bakery desert, Beaverton. Once a month we cannot stand it anymore and jump into our minivan to travel all the way to Ken's Bakery so that we can enjoy his fresh, original, delicious croissants, with superb Stumptown espresso. For an hour we take part in a feast of luxury and revel in divine taste and smell. We look at all the beautiful people there and hope they all can fully appreciate Ken's Bakery as much as we do. (Do people in Paris take their luxury for granted?) On the way home into the desert we are happy and sad at the same time. How much longer do we have to wait till Ken opens a bakery in Beaverton?
Chris Hensel
Easily the best pastries I've ever had in my life.
Carl from Chicago
We went there on Monday for the pizza night. Note that they say it closes at 6pm but that’s not true on Monday it stays open later.
The pepperoni pizza was great highly recommended.
Olga Beckmann
One love ❤️
You can eat the whole ciabatta in a day- I think it says everything. Never disappoints and also great, friendly and patient service!
Keith Koenig
Great little neche place in Northwest Portland to go have coffee and some fresh-made Artisan pastries. It's Northwest Portland parking stinks but it's worth a walk through the streets.
Andrea John-Smith
Oregon croissant, eclair, chocolate croissant, cinnamon twist. ‘Nuf said.
Jason Harvey
Bakery is next level. From the baguettes to the Oregon croissants, you can't go wrong.
Corey Branstrom
It's an amazing bakery. Want fresh bread/croissants? It's the place. They have sandwiches, too. Everything is exactly what you expect it to be, just the most delicious and well baked version of it.
Keith Jefferies
Excellent quality baking here. My only complaint is that on pizza night, one of their pizzas they loaded with spicy chilies without mentioning this on the menu. No offer to correct this or comp the uneaten pizza.
Renette Yan
Good pastries, good service good coffee!
Noel Dong
Great local bakery. My go to Morning Bun in the morning. Also Monday nights they have an amazing pizza night which gets really busy but the pizzas are worth the wait!
Elena Isoldi Medici
This place is AMAZING. Their breads are to live for. We loved the vibe too. The staff is friendly. Just wish they had some vegan friendly desserts.
Michael D
Very close to a French bakery, but not quite. Solid macaroons and the croissant was good but they won't meet those top French bakery expectations.

Best bakery in town!
Christian Ghoubrial
Delicious bakery, especially brownie
Joel Cuozzo-Gonzalez
Just nabbed a tuna sandwich and their veggie sandwich (the name escapes me) on a date with my girlfriend a few days ago. On the way out I grabbed the Oregon croissant and was not disappointed.
Eduardo Argollo
Great bakery. Wonderful bread. Nice staff. Every Monday night you can also get the best pizza in town. Really great.

This bread is outrageous. Soft and chewy with a crispy crust. The egg salad sandwich was delicious. They could sell me a bread sandwich and I'd be happy.
Olivia Cegelka
I used their baguette to make french toast, the chocolate croissants are deadly delicious. C'est magnifique.
Conor McBride
Best bakery in Portland. Morning buns and croissants are especially fantastic. Check out Ken's Artisan Pizza as well.
Katherine Haywood
the passion fruit escargot was probably the best croissant type of texture I’ve ever had
Gibran Ramos
Good French pastries, but they can be a bit soggy instead of flaky at times.Monday is Pizza night and is a nice alternative to the greasy pizza that is the norm in most pizzarias in Portland.
Luke Dawson
From the sandwiches, croissants, coffee, baguettes and loaves…it’s an amazing bakery…do yourself a favor and visit.
ankitha shetty
The croissants are tasty . Liked the Oregon and almond croissant , the chocolate croissant was passable.
David Dixon
Monday nights are pizza nights! If you stop by, make sure to get your free bread at the end of the night! Also, pastries and desserts are amazing.
Liz Savage
The pastries are really excellent. Prices are a little high and the clientele is what you would expect for this neighbourhood. A nice place to pop into, gets busy on weekends.
Katie Bishop
Excellent excellent food and atmosphere. Couldn’t love this place more!

Amazing pastries and macarons. Lots of fun creative options. It gets super busy on a Sunday but the lines move quickly and it is counter service.

Very nice bakery. Good coffee. My ham and cheese open sandwich was pretty tasty.
Jesse Moses
not the best, I feel like their croissants were basic and stale as well
James Sathre
Best bakery I've ever been too. It will ruin croissants anywhere else you get them forever, just be warned.
