These donuts are definitely unique! The flavors change with the seasons, which is nice. Pumpkin was a happy sight for me as autumn just started. As odd as it sounds though, they're too sweet. They're all covered in glaze and then loaded with more toppings and drizzles...it's a lot. I could barely eat a whole one. I'm in sugar overload. But, this is simply my taste buds being a bit different. Lol The staff was extremely friendly and I tried Vietnamese Iced Coffee for the first time ever. This was an experience I'll only find in Philly. Thank you!

For no reason, I waited a long time to eat here and then I read an article mentioning that their coconut curry wings are very good, so I decided to check them out and they don’t even serve coconut curry wings or the chicken sandwich on a glazed donut that we saw online. But service was friendly and we decided to stay. We got some over priced donuts, the best is the cinnamon sugar and the strawberry one was real good. But their sandwich was ok, nothing to brag about. Their Za atar fries is just like black pepper seasoning. Pretty disappointing. The place is cute.

C'mon, it's Federal Donuts 🍩! What is there not to like? Every town should have a go-to donut shop and for Philly it's Federal Donuts. Yes, they have the fancy donuts for the gourmand but if you like a more traditional donut, they have those too. I enjoy almost all of them (they're not making them just for me, so that's fine - there's something for everyone... assuming you like donuts [what kind of monster doesn't like donuts?!?!]). Did I mention the chicken? Word is that it's pretty fantastic. I had a breakfast sandwich and let's just say that in my scramble to gobble it down, I forgot to snap a pic. It was delicious and the spicy relish made it extra-special

I give my chicken sandwich a 2. The fries and sauce they give were good. I do want to go back and try the donuts. However for the price of this tiny chicken sandwich I would never go back and get that.

I stopped by this donut chain for the first time today to get some donuts to take home with me after staying in Philly for a couple of days. This is such a cute and clean spot. The donuts are pretty expensive $$$ for the size that you get, but they are absolutely delicious. The staff is nice and friendly too. I will definitely stop by again the next time I am in the area.

I'm head over heels IN LOVE with this place. Specifically THIS Federal Donuts on 7th Street not far off of Spring Garden and close to Northern Liberties. Their hot and fresh donuts are incredible, my favorite being the Cinnamon Brown Sugar ones and their Vietnamese Coffee is sooo good! I love Federal Donuts and can't get enough of them. I live in West Depftord, NJ about 25 minutes outside of the city and I still make the trip every weekend. I'm eagerly waiting for them to open a store closer to me in Jersey.

The only reason this is not a five star review is there are no bike racks at this location. This is a major oversight as the area is very bikeable and in a very dense neighborhood. Shop is clean and well kept and the staff are outstanding.

Our colleague from Europe said that Federal Donuts are the only donuts he’ll eat in US, others are bad. Totally agreed. Good service. Amazing chicken sandwiches! We took 2 fresh baked donuts and 6 fancy, they are all really tasty. My favorite are with berries, sweet and sour.

Fresh donuts from a Philly started small business! Arrived around 9am on a Sunday with no line and only one other person inside. Ordered 6 special donuts which came to $15. The donuts have a ton of flavor and really do taste like their namesake. The only thing I didn’t like was the cake like texture and heaviness. I prefer lighter airy donuts, but would definitely recommend giving these a try!

When I walked in the whole place smelled of fresh baked doughnuts. It was delightful and the service was quick. I had all their cookies in cream and cinnamon sugar. Both are divine. They also have coffee to go with it. If your tired of other donut places try this place out: it scores high.

I just went for the first time and this place is AMAZING!!! I tried the chicken sandwich and it was incredible. Hot, crispy, juicy, tender and flavorful all at once. I can't wait to try one of the donuts. I might go back tomorrow...

Friday I made it my business to show up at federal donuts I had heard so much about the fried chicken that I wanted to try something so I ordered One dozen wings. And I decided to buy 2 donuts even though that's not why I was there. They asked me what kind of sauce I wanted and I guess I should have asked them are these whole wings Or are they wing dings? But I don't ask. When I got home I was so disappointed that I had wing dings ( party wings not whole wings). They where just alright. Nothing to go out of my way for. They had good flavor., but they where not what I wanted. Now my "Peach Melba was the best! I enjoyed them so much. Stoped by after coming back home from Jersey yesterday of course 7th street didn't have any. And today Sunday I tried calling to find out if they had them today. But somethings wrong with the phone. . So no more children from Federal but I just might try the donuts again.

Courteous service and patient which is necessary because of the need to ask questions about their donuts or seasonings. Unfortunately, the chicken sandwich was fried way too hard. Overall, good place to hang or bring people from out of town. Get the dry rub chicken and a hot donut.

The chicken is good but not good enough for the price. The donuts though? THE DONUTS THOUGH?? Amazing. Absolutely worth it. Fantastic. Try something that you wouldn't normally, I got a bunch of weird ones and the only one I didn't like was the chili mango donut. That one was weird, but the rest probably the best donuts I've ever had.

I tried their coffee for the first time last month and it tasted sour. I figured it was just a bad batch and thought nothing of it. A month goes by and I tried their coffee again and same sour taste! Guys, you need to prepare your coffee better. Under extraction of the beans results in sour taste, get you ish together. The donuts however were great so 3 stars. Please fix your coffee.

I ordered a box of six donuts and the chicken sandwich from here. The chicken sandwich was pretty decent and some of the donuts were good while others were just too sweet with a ton of sugar on top. Despite ordering late in the day the donuts were still fresh. I ordered mine via delivery and I’d recommend going there to choose your own flavor as you could more easily choose what you’d like instead of leaving it to chance. Donuts are fancy so you’re paying for the presentation as well.

I was pleasantly surprised at this place! I didn't get rave review from my friend but I decided to try it out anyway. I got the blueberry lemon and s'more doughnuts. The blueberry lemon had perfect balance of tart and sweetness. Def not as sweet as I thought it would be which is my preference. The dough itself was light and flavorful. The s'more donut was expected to be sweeter but it still wasn't overly sweet. Under the thick icing, the dough was again light and fluffy. I could eat these everyday! Now the coffee. I got the vietnamese iced coffee and it was strong. Although it didn't really resemble vietnamese iced coffee other than the color but it was strong! So if you are tired of watered down coffee then try their vietnamese iced coffee! Highly recommend!

This is a place that serves fresh made donuts and chicken. As well as serving great coffee. It's more of a fast food setting then a dining experience. The staff is generally pleasant and I've never had a problem as well as the service being effective. As for the food the donuts are really good particularly the cinnamon brown sugar donut which when hot and fresh is delectable. I can't speak for the other donuts as I am hooked on this one. But I imagine the other donuts are just as tasty depending on your taste. As for the chicken that is where my glowing review ends. The crust on the chicken is tasty and it is cooked crispy which is great but as far as underneath the skin I found the chicken to be terribly undercooked and rubbery and I ended up not finishing my thigh or my leg. Technically the chicken may have been "cooked" according to the federal donut standards but certainly not to my liking because I don't like to taste rubbery chicken and it had bad mouth feel as a result . I will not be ordering chicken from this place ever again. My favorite fried chicken is Royal Farms, ranked number one in food and wine magazine as the best fast food chicken and I will stick to it as there's nothing like it. That being said I will probably return to Federal donuts for the donuts and coffee themselves as that's all I need from this place. The only thing I cannot review at federal donuts are the wings and the fried chicken sandwich which I hope are better than the other items I discussed.

Great atmosphere, everyone is always pleasant and answers any questions you may have. The donuts are separated into 2 categories : those made to order and those already made. All of them are definitely delicious and they even tell you if they're gluten/dairy/allergen free. Coffee is delicious, but I have never tried their chicken sandwiches. 100% love federal donuts

Amazing donuts! They have fancy donuts and hot donuts. The hot are cheaper and I think even better. The fried chicken (after 11:00am) is also spectacular. If you haven't tried these donuts yet you are surely missing out. I would say spring for the fancy ones (which keep changing flavors btw) but even just the hot and fresh ones are to dye for. They come straight out of the deep dryer still hot and dropped in sugar. This place is definitely on my top 4 donuts spots in Philadelphia

I LOVE their donuts but hope that they have more internal organization. I paid for 3 dozen donuts in advance of picking it up as a part of a work party AND THEN was told that I had to pay for it again once I arrived because it didn't go through via phone - even though I gave the card number twice and was given the total balance and emailed the receipt. Plot twist: I paid for the order twice because they didn't have the record of the original payment. Please organize yourself better moving forward.

Been to this establishment quite a few times, and I must say it’s a bit overrated to me. Don’t give me wrong their fancy donuts are amazing, and when I do come in I always get the chicken sandwich staff are also friendly. But other than that nothing really sticks out to me, The coffee is mediocre and not very tasty and on top of that it’s overpriced. I remember getting a fancy donut and a large coffee to go one time and it literally almost came out to $7, I definitely recommend this place if your into Donuts and Chicken but be ready to spend a arm and a leg.

First time experience, ordered online for takeout. Ordered time was about 10:57a, said food should be ready by 11:30a. I thought that was a bit long for a chicken sandwich, fries and a donut. But I’ve heard good things, I entered about 11:20 was asked to wait additional 5 minutes. Food was done just at about 11:30. I feel they should cook ur order as soon as u place it especially with Covid, and the restaurant was empty and I still had to wait. I ordered a plain chicken sandwich, for $8.00 the sandwich is very small. Looks like a slider. I was not satisfied with that. It was pretty good tasting though. I ordered Za’atar fries, (came with a good amount of fries)which I’m unsure what exactly that seasoning is. They were good not salty but they are a little heavy handed with the Za’atar herbs. I had a Cinnamon bun donut. Delish! Super soft and flavorful. Overall I’d visit again. But if ur hungry u will have to order two sandwiches lol.

This place is just the best. The special flavors are always crazy and fun to try, but the standards are the way to go. Strawberry Lavender is the best dessert I've ever had, donut or otherwise. Really hit or miss over here. The chicken sandwiches are definitely a bit over priced, as are the donuts. The service can go either way. We very polite people but also some who seem angry to be there and treat you rudely. The most annoying this was that during COVID restrictions (don't know if they're changing it now) they had a max number of people in the store. But then they would let people who are waiting for orders stand around hanging out inside. If you have a max of 5 people in store, and you let 5 people hang out there for the 10 minutes while their order is prepared, how is anyone else supposed place an order or pick up their online order during that 10 minutes? They can't, while respecting the rule. As a customer I don't want to have to enforce a businesses COVID policies for them. I shouldn't have to ask people to come out so I can grab my food from the counter. I came in one time to pick up and someone there told me I had to wait outside when I was coming in to pick up my already prepared order. Meanwhile there was a group of 5 friends who just ordered standing next to the pick up counter having casual conversation while they waited. If they managed the shop, it'd be 4 stars. Still not a 5 because of some rude staff

As good as the original, so so tasty. I'm really digging the new more spacious and brighter shop. Service is speedy as ever if not better...and the donuts. Oh the donuts are something heavenly and rotate often. And they've got these sides called fried chicken, have you heard of these things?! (Sarcasm) Such great flavors on the chicken as there are around 4-6 different ones. I recommend the Thai curry, personal favorite. Of you're in the are, make a trip, grab a seat, and stuff some chicken and donuts in your face!

I'm so glad that Federal Donuts has a location on this side of the city. My husband works at Penn and I'd go wild whenever he brought home donuts from their location there. Their fried chicken is so tasty, but honestly, the donuts are what keep me coming back. The selection changes seasonally so there's always something new to try, and usually it's a funky flavor combination that I've never seen/tried before. Right now they've got a guava poppyseed donut that's just to die for. If you like your food adventurous, you've gotta give Federal Donuts a shot!

Overall they serve a good chicken sandwich and the donuts are delicious...I love the rose lavender...this would not be a good idea if you have to pay for three or more people...a chicken sandwich is 8.00 dollars and a dozen donuts are about 8.00 dollars...best to go once in awhile for a treat day and also calorie wise you have to be careful how many donuts or fried chicken you consume...overall I liked it but would go once in awhile due to caloric intake. 💞😍😘💞😘😙💋🌹🌷🌺❤💞💕💟

Best chicken and donuts in the world. Order a 1/2 chicken with your choice of rub or glaze and it comes with a donut on the side. You will never want a biscuit again. There chicken sandwich is also amazing with a thick slice of kosher dill pickle on it.

We tried a 'spiced' doughnut with cream cheese glaze and guava icing, and it was the most. flavorful. doughnut. we've ever had. They had other fun flavors to choose from, as well as a few simple, yet satisfying coffee options and breakfast sandwiches. We each had a breakfast sandwich and loved the combo of fries eggs, bacon, and peppers. Yum.

I mean, there's a reason this place has such an amazing reputation already. The donuts are out of this world, and the fried chicken is also insanely good. Try it with the buttermilk ranch seasoning. Not to mention 10 bucks for 3 big juicy pieces of chicken and a donut? Can't beat it.

Federal Donuts is a Philadelphia treasure. The shops specialize in donuts and fried chicken sandwiches. As much as I like the donuts, I highly recommend visiting for lunch or dinner. The friend chicken is juicy, yet crunchy. It is flavored with a buttermilk ranch seasoning, served on a soft Martin's potato roll, with a slice of melted cheddar cheese. Best chicken sandwich!

It was okay. I got the 3pc chicken that comes with a donut. First off, service was ok. They were a bit slow, not expecting fast food speeds. Staff was not real friendly and not helpful. Place is definitely a hipsters paradise. Prices were high. Food was tasty though. First, the donut was a nice cake donut with a unique honey glaze of some short. It was good. Still I have had better fresh made donuts from places like Duck Donuts or Factory Donuts. I also was not thrilled with the lack of donut options. The chicken was good, I had the buttermilk ranch. Crunchy, flavorful, pretty moist. Overall, just an okay expirence. I would order again but I am not going out of my way to visit again nor tell people about it.

The fried chicken is not as good as KFC Original but still tastes great even though it's overpriced. I always order the three piece plain deal for around $10, with no glaze except sometimes coconut. The glaze ruins the coating by making it watery and runny. I usually get the chicken without seasoning but try the honey ginger if you must, it's amazing. The donuts are superb but they are always sold out of the $2.50 fancy donuts when I arrive, but try the strawberry cheesecake if it's available. WOW! The $1.50 hot fresh strawberry donuts are great, much better than anything Dunkin Donuts sells. The neighborhood is absolutely horrible but luckily not far from I-95 or Spring Garden Street. Some people swear by this place and judging by the food I can see why.

First time at Federal Donuts. I've heard so much about it and since I was driving by I had to go in try it. I was a bit puzzled by the limited selection of Doughnuts flavors that were available. Since I had never been here I assumed that there would be more of a selection but I moved on from there. Ordered the red velvet and the Vietnamese coffee. I had never heard of Vietnamese coffee so I was intrigued. It is basically a strong brew, iced coffee that is blended with a sweet cream. So I received my Doughnut, and now that I think about it, I had a red velvet and some other flavor combination but take note, that I don't even remember the flavor. But the Vietnamese coffee....man that was FANTASTIC!!! It was sweet, not too sweet. A nice blend that wasn't overpowering with flavor or caffeine. The fact that it was an ice coffee made the blend extra flavorable (is that even a word?) to my taste buds!! I'm sorry Federal Donuts, I was completely let down by the hype around your donuts, but that nay have been due to the FANTABULOUS coffee! Next time I stop by I'll get a donut first and then go back for some coffee....sorry, but not sorry! I mean you still scored a four out of five in my book!

I had heard that Federal Donuts was the place to go in Philly for hot and fresh donuts, so we stopped at this location due to the parking lot on our way out of town. Having never been here before, I didn't knwo what to expect. I was told that the signature donuts were all sold out and the only had the made hot and fresh ones. So, we ordered a dozen, four strawberry, four sugar and four cinnamon. They also have fried chicken, but we stuck to what's in the name. They donuts are deep fried to order and then covered in the topping. Since they are freshly fried, they are not warm, they are hot when you get them. They are also quite messy since the topping is freshly put on. To get the most enjoyment, eat it in the restaurant. These donuts are great when they are hot out of the fryer and totally worth the stop. Since we ordered a dozen, we had more left over. The next day, they were still pretty good, but only slightly better than Dunkin Donuts. So, get the donuts, but eat them hot for the best flavor. We'll be stopping again, but getting only half a dozen next time!

The Chicken Sandwich they sell is phenomenal and I get it every time, make sure you get it before they sell out for the day! If you love donuts, no doubt you've heard of Federal Donuts. It's the most popular donut in Philadelphia and often finds itself on every type of donut list, local and national. It's so popular that they now have several locations throughout the city. This location is in Poplar and near the Edgar Allen Poe house. It has a fun 1970s feel to it with umbrella tables in front and a diner feel inside. It almost feels like a Sonic rather than a donut shop. They sell donuts (obviously). They have classic ones and more fancy ones like S’mores. I always go with the old fashioned chocolate donut for $2.75. If you stop in for lunch, they make a good fried chicken. If you pride yourself in donuts, head over to Federal Donuts!

All hail fed dough I live next to this place, but manage to only eat donuts weekly, and not daily. It's difficult to do, but I'm here, bearing the cross. They have amazing, creative donuts that change constantly just make sure you go early if you want some of the more expensive "fancy" donuts of which no doubt you've seen on social media. They also do fresh basic donuts. Fried Chicken is great, albeit expensive. Go for glazed over dry. Oh yea! Coffee is good too!!

I took my two-year-old daughter my ten-year-old daughter and my uncle to Federal Donut today for donuts and chicken. On top of having excellent food and delicious donuts the service was so friendly. I don't know about anybody else but I really value excellent customer service, which is exactly what we received today. I am also in the process of potty training a two-year-old daughter which means she needs to pee everywhere we go) I really appreciated the extremely clean bathrooms. I always have my Clorox wipes on hand, but I didn't even have to use them this time the cleaning guy was just leaving out of the bathroom and it was fresh and clean despite the fact that there was a ton of patrons at this time. I can't express enough how kind the staff was, but there was one staff member whose name I did not get, but she had a really cool blonde and purple hair cut and she was extremely sweet and super accommodating all while addressing me by name and like I said they had a ton of patrons and she was kind enough to remember my name.

Tasty doughnuts made with good ingredients, you won't take cardamom in a Dunkin doughnut. Really amazing coffee and the chicken sandwich that I heard so much about was really good. Fresh pickles that were lightly pickled blended we'll with spicy sauce and a tender chicken breast. Although it's not an old time Philly original, give it a few more years and it will be.

Let’s start off with when you first enter the building your nostrils are filled with goodness. You smell the sweet aroma of the donuts. On this visit we tried four different flavors. Za’atar, sweet soy garlic, honey ginger, and chili garlic. They all were very good but my least favorite was the chili garlic. The honey donut the chicken comes with is Amazing! Its soft and sweet I can eat a dozen of them alone. I didn’t get a fancy donut this round maybe next time. I just wish it was a boneless chicken option other than the chicken sandwich. I prefer chicken without the bone. Wings were small but very crunchy. I’ll be back soon!! The chili garlic flavor was ok it just needed a sweetness to it in my opinion. A bit spicy Za’atar was definitely my favorite it was full of flavor Sweet soy garlic was my second fav had a sweet tart taste that I loved. Reminded me of the sauce used for dumplings. Honey ginger was good too & it wasn’t too much ginger which I was expecting (it was my hunnis fav)

Definitely have to give Federal Donuts five stars even if this is a new location. I got three donuts: cinnamon bun, Snocap and the hot cinnamon sugar which was literally hot because it came right off of the machine, tumbled around in a box of cinnamon sugar and right into my mouth. The donut could almost not be held it was so hot, yet it proves that sometimes you don't need to have a fancy donut to enjoy them. That being said, I really really enjoyed the snocap donut as they did it right....the ENTIRE chocolate donut was coated in snocaps. I can't remember the last time I ate three donuts in a day.
