Monteleones has been a staple in our family for decades. Normally our go to cake for a birthdays is there famous Italian rumcake. However due to it being our daughter's 10 year birthday we opted for or a character cake and as you can see from the photos attached Monteleones definitely did not disappoint my daughter or our family members who ate thes delicious Winnie the Pooh cake.

This place has to be the best bakery in NJ for rum cakes & pasticiottis. My mom got her wedding cake here, and we continue to get our cakes from this lovely bakery. I hope they continue to be a staple in the community for years to come. Just to share, they are cash only! :)

Can't beat for the price. Got a birthday cake here with chocolate mousse filling. Everyone loved it. Not a designer cake studio or over the top but classic good cake. Over paying for a kids cake is becoming tacky . Was quoted about 120-160 for designer cakes in area. For under 40 bucks this place is a sure winner. Cookies and cannoli decent too. Skip the cupcakes.

Very old and awesome bakery. Family owned. We always order birthday cakes from this place and everyone loves the taste. They can get better on their design selections. Still, no nearby place can beat them on price and taste. They have descent selection of pastries and cookies as well.

Monteleone Bakery (or Monteleone's, as we affectionately call it) is a JERSEY CITY STAPLE! It's been there for years and continues to turn out super fresh cakes and pastries. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but can't you say that for all the best places? This tiny shop cranks out seriously good desserts. For starters, they are known for their Italian Rum cake. I am not a fan of it personally, but everyone in my family goes gaga over it. If I ever bring the leftovers into work, I always get the question of "Where did you get this? It's the best rum cake I've ever had!" The cake is a specialty, so you'll have to order it ahead of time. The plus side to that is...it's so fresh, it literally falls apart in your mouth. Sometimes, the cake is so soaked with rum, that it leans a bit, like a Leaning Tower of Rum Cake. Our typical order is rum cake with chocolate pudding, cannoli cream, and nuts on the outside, but you can switch it out with vanilla pudding, sprinkles on the outside, etc. My personal favorite specialty cake is their Black Forest Cake. Again, you have to ask for it and order ahead (and put a deposit down), but it's seriously so worth it. They use this fluffy, chocolate-mousse like creme to keep the layers together...it's so, so, so good. Another staple - their cupcakes! I like to get a box and bring them into work for birthdays or special occasions. Sometimes they'll have specialty ones, but you can always count on them having vanilla with either chocolate ganache or vanilla buttercream, especially if it's early in the morning. Again, call ahead to secure your order. It's also good to note that their standard vanilla cake is more akin to a chiffon cake, as it's got a little bit of a lemon flavor going on. Also, their chocolate cake is more cocoa-kissed than true chocolate. Last but certainly not least...their lobster tails are amazing! They only make them on certain days (Thursday, I think), but they are so fresh, with crispy exteriors and fluffy vanilla interiors. I prefer these to the sfogliatelle. As many said before, if you're curious about what they have...just ask! The staff, while not the friendliest, is knowledgeable about their products. Also, the prices here are very fair. Support small businesses, ya'll!

They made the best Banana, Strawberry filled long cake. I used to buy there along with some eclairs and canolies during special occasions. One of the places I miss from old home town Jersey City. Very hard to find something like that in LA.

The italian pastries are divine. Their custard cream is something I remember as a kid— when my grandmother came with traditional Italian pastries from HER neighborhood. Along with the traditional pastries you can’t miss picking up their cake which is made to order, beautifully decorated for a college graduation party and right down to the fillings — outstanding! I am anxious to try their traditional Italian cake with rum and chocolate/ vanilla but that will be next month at my Grandson’s wedding. Monteleone’s Bakery— is easy to get to, and I recommend it unconditionally with 5 stars worth for quality.!!

They have the most delicious vanilla cake with strawberry filling. I ordered it to have my husband's photo on it for his birthday, and it came out wonderful. He was so surprised and happy with it! The price was very reasonable too. It was my first time buying any thing from here. I also purchased yummy eclairs and cookies and cupcakes. I plan to get all of our birthday cakes from here from now on. They do a fantastic job!

Everyone's birthday in my familigia was graced by a rum cake from Monteleone's. That was something! On Thanksgiving I knew there was going to be a long line but it was worth the wait to creep your way inside the door, smell those heavenly aromas and know you were close to baking bliss. Holy Cannoli!

If you are looking for a delicious cake for any occasion... birthday, baby shower and even wedding cakes look no further. When I order a cake I always get Strawberry banana with vanilla custard and whipped cream and oh me oh my I always hear how delicious the cake is. The only bakery I get all of my cakes .... My wedding cake came out absolutely Amazing 🥰😍 . Best part there extremely affordable definitely can't beat the taste and quality. I've never been disappointed here . All of the cakes are a true work of art.

Best Italian Rum Cake I have ever had. Seriously, we happily drive over an hour to buy their cake. We've gone back several times and the rum cake is consistently amazing. Cookies and pastries are really good too. Great prices, and very friendly service.

I came in just as they were opening. My mind was immediately set on a Carmel cupcake. It was warm and delicious. It took me a few minutes...so good and fresh I sucked it up with a straw! Not really, but it became good friends with my stomach really fast. The owner was very nice and professional. A must if you want FRESH baked goodies.

They have the best, and I mean THE BEST, chocolate cake (I think they call it Death By Chocolate). So moist, so yummy, good amount of sweetness. I don't know what they put in there, I don't want to know (LOL), but whatever kind of chocolate they use and whatever magic ingredient they include in the recipe (LOL), it makes the cake utterly scrumptious! They've perfected their chocolate cake. If you want good, rich chocolate cake - come to this little Jersey City gem.

My one and only complaint is they don’t have more store around the country or a website! Their cakes are always good and fresh. I ordered a cake for the next day and realized it was the wrong date the next morning. I called that morning and the assured me that it was okay to change the date and that the cake I received would be fresh. They were right! It was delicious!

We had a gorgeous cake made for our church's 3rd year anniversary that I ordered over the phone. You can also stop in and look through their book of designs to order in advance. Never disappointed, even when I pop in to get a cake at the last minute. Monteleone's offers seasonally decorated treats like small cakes, cupcakes and decorated cookies that are fun and tasty. Try the cannolis and eclairs. Did I mention the fresh baked crumb cake or mini turnovers? The prices are reasonable and the staff is kind.

This is where to get your Italian bakery items in the Journal Sq area. Cannolis are great, along with the lace cookies. My wife and I usually get the lobster tails (decadent and delicious). I also got pies here at Thanksgiving (line out the door), and I highly recommend the mince pie.

Monteleone's has been around since I was a kid. I am in my 70's. Of all the bakeries in this area, when my office ordered cakes, we always ordered from Monteleone's. The holidays have just passed and one of the gifts I give, which recipients most look forward to receiving, is a box of assorted miniatures (miniature versions of Italian pastries; i.e. sfogliatella, connoli, etc). Buddy from Carlos may be on TV but he does not hold a candle to Monteleone's. All their goodies, cookies, cakes, pastries, are the best. Try the Lobster Tails - one step from heaven! Someone described the location as "on the main drag". I think it is a little out of the way but definitely worth the trouble. I can't recommend this place highly enough. I would put this place against any bakery in the New York Metro area. It is that good.
