Reviews of Parkway Bakery & Tavern

What a place! Food is definitely heavy but so delicious. But the atmosphere there is everything. I’m a European and if you are traveling from abroad this is the absolute MUST to visit. However, I was traveling with an American friend and he was just as happy to be there so I guess it’s a vibe of this place which unbelievable.
Keep in mind that there is a waiting line. We were there for lunch and waited for 20 min to order and than another 20 min for our order to get ready. However, being inside is a treat so go there and enjoy yourself. This place is made for that

Tried both the Oyster and BBQ Shrimp Po-Boys. Got my shrimp with added beef gravy and MOMMA!!! We had previously seen a video with Parkway featured so when we noticed we were nearby we immediately drove over. We got there before the lunch rush and got our food quickly. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available as well. The oysters were so tender and flavorful which is a great sign of their freshness. The fresh shrimp were so well seasoned and the batter clung very well. Both sandwiches were overstuffed and we had plenty of oysters and shrimp to enjoy after the sandwich was gone.
We'll be back, guaranteed!!

Great neighborhood place with the best poboy sandwiches. The bread is fantastic and it's fun for families as well. I got the catfish my husband got the James Brown and we were more than happy with our selections. We got the small and I know we couldn't have finished a large. Service was very fast you order at the counte,r go up to the kitchen to get your sodas and food, then out to the patio dining tables. I would highly recommend this place to eat at in New Orleans.

AMAZING food!!! Large and easy free parking. Dog friendly on patio only. Huge Patio to eat under with fans. Can eat inside or outside. Order inside. Restaurant access is near the patio outside and bakery connected to restaurant. Brett P. Waited on us from the Bar and we ate under the patio with tons of shade. Clean and the bathrooms were clean too. No water around sinks because someone was actively tending to it. Overall great service. Friendly staff. Clean place. Easy parking. Best of all Dog Friendly. Oh yes and this place has been around since 1911. Very historical.
We loved our NOLA IPA, bloody Mary, and James Brown sandwich. We each got a large but ate the first half before taking the pic. Bread was phenomenal. We actually came to NOLA specifically to visit this restaurant.

The roast beef and gravy po-boy was pure comfort food. We also loved the fried catfish and the sweet potato fries. I’d come back and try anything on the menu. The ice cream king cake was a sweet delight!

Po boys were delicious! Top notch food in NOLA - the gulf shrimp was a must have. Would go back again next time we visit
Jasmin Loomis
Wow! We loved this place! I got the classic roast beef and gravy and my partner got the surf and turf, so great! Better than any poboy in the quarter. The history is awesome to read about as you wait for your food. Lots of parking too if you need to drive. Definitely recommend.
Rosie
The best Po Boys in a New Orleans hands down! I highly recommend checking this place out. The shrimp Po Boy and Roast Beef with gravy were delicious! We always visit when we are in town and definitely will be back!
Dustin C.
I have to say hands down this is the best poboy shop in New Orleans. Great atmosphere, fantastic food. I love hot poboys and places I have been to microwave to heat the food up which makes the food dry. Here they will grill what ever you want heated and portions are plentiful.
Jim Oliver
Went on an unseasonably cold day in NOLA (about 35°) which is only really notable because they are currently only doing outdoor seating in a tented area bc of the pandemic. I got to be honest from the time I ordered to the time I got my sandwich far exceeded any wait time for a Po'boy anyplace else we went while in town. I got the house specialty, the roast beef (And for the uninitiated in New Orleans the roast beef po' boy is not a thinly sliced sandwich like you would find at a sub shop... It's more like pot roast and gravy, which I knew going into it) Yes, the sandwich was decent, albeit a little under-salted, but it certainly didn't live up to the billing from any of those top 5 or top 10 lists you'll find online/YouTube. And more so because it took a long time for a sandwich and an order of fries -- And it really wasn't that busy on a chilly Friday afternoon.

I got luck and came on a Thursday.. the oyster fried po boy is the best! The roast beef one is good too but if I had to pick, I like the oyster one better.. I recommend this place.. the French bread was very good 👍 …

My first po boy experience and I’m so glad it was here. These boys are MASSIVE, so come hungry. Great service with a smile and the shrimp was flash fried to perfection - no hint of that gulf funk. First time with gator too and I cannot complain (better than most sausage I’ve had).
Topped with a Pimm’s and a Parkway’s paper cap - stop by for an authentic, delicious New Orleans experience.
Michael J. Brankin
An absolutely charming and fun place to grab something to eat. One of my new favorite places in New Orleans. Their Surf & Turf Po' Boy was scrumptious. Service was excellent and was as welcoming as a old Lazy Boy. And the price was much friendlier to a local pocketbook vs. a tourist one.
Cassandra Williams
Enjoyed my Poboy. While I finished it, the fries were too much for me. I brought my bread pudding home to eat when I have space!
The shrimp were well seasoned and cooked the way I like. I will be back!
Patricia Flores
Line was not too long, service was quick, Po'Boys were amazing!!! Jambalaya, fried pickles and fries were delicious! Pudding was amazing as well
Tanya Towne
Great atmosphere delicious drinks and a good service. This place is known for their po-boys. Here is a picture of mine without gravy and my side was jambalaya. Very good!!
Tj B
Local and tourist favorite! We shared a large roastbeef&fried shrimp poboy with a side of fries. The fries were delicious (esp the sweet potato! Wow!). The poboy was a bit messy and eh, wish we just got plain fried shrimp without the roast beef. Fast and friendly service.
Warren Ratcliff
My Queen and I stopped by for some lunch which we have never been here before and we're from New Orleans so it was a perfect opportunity. I must say it was really nice, outside dining had shade and fans to help keep cool, awesome. It was a nice lil crowd but moving rapidly and very professional, the gentleman taking orders was very kind and on point. We sat outside waiting for our order which did not take long at all just enjoying the atmosphere and nice people in attendance. Our poboys were delicious, my Queen had a roast beef with gravy and I had a half shrimp and half oyster with a order of fries and 2 long neck bottles of root beers, honestly we really enjoyed everything, also I have to add that the restroom was super clean, most restrooms I've been in were bad and some worst. Overall this was a wonderful lunch date for my Queen and I. Definitely recommend anyone who never been here before to stop by and visit if you enjoy poboys (outer towners and locals who never been). Thanks
Amy B.
This was my first time visiting Parkway's after many travels to New Orleans. It was absolutely delicious! There's two lines to order from, one for drinks and one for food when you walk in. It can be busy, so don't come here in a rush, know you will stay a while. I ordered the catfish po boy and my boyfriend for the sausage po boy. I also got fries with cheese, everything was exactly what you wanted it to be. You get to pick your own seats inside and out, but the patio is the best place to be when the weather is nice. If you're in the New Orleans area, come to Parkway and get a po boy!
Brett Bowles
Great po boys! Recently overhauled and new menu items. My new favorite is the James Brown! BBQ roast beef and fried shrimp! It was great
Sun Lee
Line was not too long, service was quick, Po'Boys were amazing! A true institution for poor boys. Wednesday's and Saturday's - the oysters poboys are available.
I liked this place better than Guys and Domilises
JeAnne Swinley
I admit I was a little salty post Obama visit as I feel like the quality and portion sizes had both decreased since days of yore. But I center went back for turkey Wednesdays and my love affair is reborn. The Thanksgiving po boy is worth the line every single Wednesday. The roast beast filled with gravy goodness. The banana pudding is better than ya mammas ...fight me. Thank you for restoring my faith.
I'm Just chillin
Psychopathically we ordered the Bayou Beast, honestly best decision ever! There were 5 of us and 9 slices. Most tapped out after the first slice and two brave souls ate two more. As people who came hungry we left feeling full with fries, drinks, and this monster of a sandwich. Would recommend bringing a few more than 5 people if you want to try this. Overall, the people were nice and they were audibly amazed by the sandwich we chose. Check this place out-but seriously, get a different sandwich if there r less than 5 of you
Danielle Levitt
This is my favorite po-boy stop. Each one I've tried is delicious, but my favorite is the BBQ Beef (dressed). The line can be long (for good reason!) yet the food still comes out quickly. Seating is on a covered outdoor patio & to-go orders are also accepted.
ShereeLv P
This hidden gem has yummy PoBoys and drinks! The porch swing is overpriced for the size you get. We ordered the veggie burger PoBoy and fried pickles and it was delicious. Nice little neighborhood spot, they just need to offer drink specials.
Nikki Jay
They do not miss! I've had so many Poboys from this location and I've never been disappointed! I recently had a 1/2 oyster and 1/2 shrimp and it was so good. I could probably eat from here daily. Lol!

4 ⭐️ - an institution
I really don’t need to say much about this place as the line to place an order speaks for itself. Both locals and tourists have put this place in their go to list.
I always get the surf and turf poboy and it never disappoints. You can count on the fried shrimp to always be fresh. Too bad the bar area is still closed but hopefully they can open it soon as it is pretty fun to have a couple of drinks while devouring you poboys.
Chris Merucci
Great place! First time I've been back in New Orleans in 15 years. Parkway is fantastic I ordered the James Brown and it was AMAZING! Fast & friendly service. Smooth & easy order and pick up system. Fantastic po' boys
Kyle Green
Incredible food, atmosphere, and people. We picked up food-to-go. Got the classic (dressed), shrimp (dressed), and meatball marinara.
Classic was PACKED with stuffings. It was a bit of a gut bomb... But a delicious gut bomb.
The shrimp was amazing. Well seasoned.
The meatball marinara (for the kids) was also very good. The meatballs were HUGE. Wouldn't recommend waiting to eat this though as the bread was soggy by the time we got home. But the bread on all the sandwiches (it was the same) was very good.
Staff were super friendly and clearly interested in their guests. We were there near closing time and all of them were hustling to make sure everyone was taken care of, getting food out, and making sure the place stayed exceptionally clean. On-Site parking was easy to navigate to and had plenty of space.
Definitely a must eat-at location when in New Orleans!
Madison P
You absolutely must come here if you’re visiting New Orleans! First of all, the staff is really friendly and there’s lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The po boy was absolutely delicious and HUGE, we shared a large shrimp po boy between the two of us no problem. The tomato, lettuce and pickles and bread were super fresh and delicious but of course the fried shrimp was the best part. There was so much of it too, it was almost too thick of a sandwich to bite! Last but not least, the decor was super cute and retro with fun photos of visits from famous people on the walls.
Devin Jeffers
Had to go to Parkway while in NOLA to get a PO Boy. It was delicious! I had the shrimp po boy and my dad had a hot Ruben. To wash them down we had the frozen drink porch swings.
Alex Wolfe
This place is L E G I T. Every time I come to NOLA, I try a different sandwich shop on my never ending quest to find the greatest PoBoys. I’m pretty sure my search is over. I had the James Brown with half roasted bbq beef and half Louisiana golden shrimp. This thing was delicious from the very first bite. I got the full size (they say it’s a foot long, but it seems like this may be one of the few that UNDERESTIMATES) and it was HUGE. The only thing I’d change for my next visit would be getting one of each sandwich instead of getting both combined. The spices and flavors were so complex — highly recommend this amazing find.
Michael Mancebo
Be sure to get it 'dressed'. Great place for an official poboy. I had the 'streetcar' and Mrs had the oyster. The small must have had a dozen oysters. Would recommend if you are in area.
Daphne Brown
I really enjoyed this place, I loved the Po boy’s served here, I had a shrimp boy, mixed regular and sweet potato fries, coleslaw, drink and cookie.
Kessashun Arthur
If you're looking for a po boy, you can't go wrong here. There's plenty of good menu options. The shrimp po boy was everything I wanted and nothing I didn't: well seasoned shrimp in an overloaded portion topped with the essentials and a great creole mustard. Alligator sausage was very solid too. Even if you order a small, you'll get plenty of protein. The dessert options are all tempting. Bread pudding had great texture and a rum sauce that packed a punch; on the down side, there were soooo many raisins (probably like 60-70 of them in one piece of bread pudding). After picking like half of them out, it was pretty excellent. My friend looked very happy and a little sleepy after eating the banana pudding, so I'll go ahead and assume it's also very good. Add Parkway Tavern to your NOLA to-visit list to get some lowkey, excellent food.
Christina
Wow, best po’ boy sandwich I’ve tried in New Orleans. Tried the shrimp and oyster sandwich “dressed” which was perfectly battered and fried . The James brown however with the bbq beef, fried shrimp, and melted cheese blew me away. Definitely
Unique and delicious. Wish I took a picture of the James brown, but we ate it too quickly
Taylor Strong
The. Best. Poboys. In. New. Orleans.
Seafood and roast beef mixed together in the best way. This place brings our people together and fills us with good food and our dog got to wear a hat.
Love the separate bar line. Frozen lemonade drink is str8 amazing.

I’ve had my fair share of po-boys over the years - 18 years of visiting afforded me the opportunity to experience & enjoy many, many po-boys.
While I don’t always visit the Parkway, each time I do it never disappoints.
Having been here in December 2020, and again in October 2021, it’s clear that the Parkway have and continue to make adjustments to ensure prompt service, while delivering an awesome culinary experience.
This visit, I strayed from the traditional order (either shrimp, oyster, catfish) and order the James Brown (fried shrimp, slow BBQ beef, cheese). Don’t wear white after Labour Day and don’t wear white while eating this! It was a delectable hot mess.
I thought I had ordered the large, but in fact I ordered a small. I’d like to think this was done out of kindness. There was no way I would have been able to enjoy a large. I didn’t eat for the rest of the day.
I’m not sure when I will be back, but I do know, that each time I think of New Orleans, I think of the Parkway.
Visit. Bring your appetite. Enjoy!

We loved Parkway! Caprese po'boy was amazing! The BBQ shrimp po'boy was deliciously messy, loaded with shrimp.
Mona
We got the local favorite shrimp po boy and the special bbq roast beef po boy and they were okay, nothing special. The decor in the place was fun though.
SgtPepper834
Always a treat when you get to go to Parkway. Today I got the shrimp poboy. My colleagues got the James Brown. Everything absolutely delicious. Never a bad time!
Joseph Raczynski
Definitely as good as described. Big fan of the shrimp po'boy. The fried pickels were a tad dry.
Calvin Beasley
This stop came from a recommendation and I understand why. We had the Sidecar and John Brown sandwiches both with the gravey and they were sooooo good. I cannot wait until my next New Orleans trip to get these sandwiches again. It is definitely a locals favorite as you probably should go early...it gets busy.
Craig Prater
Came here for lunch because it's ways a go-to when I come to New Orleans. Got the half & half catfish/shrimp poboy, sweet potato fries, and the bread pudding. Everything was amazing. Make sure to get a drink cause the bread on the poboy is really thick. Seating is inside and there's a spacious outside covered patio as well. Park on the street or take the trolley car out there from the downtown/French quarter.
Luan Nguyen Minh (Luke)
I got the clasic gulf shrimp po boy. It’s okay. If this is the best of the best po boys, I’m done trying.
The oyster po boys are available on wed & thu for those who might want to plan ahead
Aubrey Lu
If your looking for a delicious po boy this is the place to get it. The bread is crunchy on the outside and cotton candy soft on the inside. Make sure if you want to get an oyster po boy to go on Wed or Thurs. 💯 recommended!!! …
Jared Jackson
Great selection of drink options, even frozen ones. Very busy when I went, but the Po'Boy was good!
J.R. Cohen
My new favorite surf n turf poboy! Really great. Streetcar poboy is very good. The two little kids got the cheeseburger and enjoyed it. Very clean. Plenty of seating. Great service. Really happy we got the chance to try this place out....... FINALLY!
Gary Harper
After my awesome VA appointment. This is the place we came to celebrate. We got here at approx 1100, atmosphere is great, the food is World Class. Had the half and half shrimp and catfish. WOW ALLs I can say. Loved it... Get You Some of Dat !!!
Sara Cathi
Ordered:
Small Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp Po’Boy - They give you plenty of shrimp that it falls out of the sandwich and you still have a good amount of shrimp with each bite. Shrimp was cooked well and crispy without feeling greasy. The mayo was thing and spreadable (delicious). The small looked like 1/2 the size of the large and was the perfect amount.
Large James Brown Po’boy - classic po’boy + slow cooked BBQ beef, pepper Jack cheese and hot sauce Mayo. Messy, savory, and packed with flavor! Would get again. The large was humongous.
Vibe: Order at the counter and dine at the tables outside. Staff were super friendly!! We felt bad for showing up 5 minutes prior to closing but we had to try Parkway before we left the city. They were super accommodating and were very friendly.
Parking: Parking lot available next to the building.
Would I return?: YES YES YES. A must-to when I’m NOLA.
Marc de Schweinitz
The Big Easy just kicked me in the gut via The Parkway Express, and I have a smile on my face. Challenge #1 was to eat the award-winning full-sized James Brown Po Boy. Challenge #2 is to remain conscious for the next few hours. I deserve a T Shirt of something when/if I make it!
Scott Nichols
I had the roast beef poboy. While it was a good poboy, it wasn't great. It was nice and messy as a good roast beef poboy should be, but not as flavorful and delicious as I had hoped. I would like to return for the desserts and maybe something else on the menu, but not for the roast beef poboy (it is a far cry from my favorite place for roast beef poboys).
Chris Lindsey
My first trip to New Orleans and my first stop to eat was Parkway Bakery and Tavern for a Fried Shrimp Poor Boy Dressed. This and a Sweet Tea hit the spot. Great place to eat and a must if you are wanting a Poor Boy. I've been other places to get a Po Boy, but nothing like getting one in New Orleans. I highly recommend making a trip to Parkway and get your Poor Boy fix. Just need one in North Alabama. This was my first time dining here.
Alonna Dawes
On my first trip to New Orleans we went to Parkway Bakery & Tavern. I had the BEST Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp Poor Boy! It was EXCELLENT! I really enjoyed it. We went at lunch time and there was a LONG line. My friend called the to-go number and the clerk took our order. When the clerk asked if we were in the parking lot or would come up to the to-go window, my friend told the clerk we were already there. The clerk told us to get out the line and head to the to-go line. We paid for our food. It was really nice of the clerk to take our order in the to-go line instead of making us wait in the long line.
Adam Rogers
The best po boy ive had in new Orleans since moving back in January 2022!!
Amazing flavor-- try the bbq shrimp!
Emily Santos
First of all having a nice clean bathroom is super important to me. All of the food we had was great, but I really loved the fried pickles and the ice cream po boy.
Tania Glez
The best po boy I have ever eating. Flavorful and big enough for two!!
Hansong Kim
Amazing Po-boy! It’s my first time, and I totally understand what is poor boy. Delicious, quantity, service, everything was good. Bar make more good vibe.
Monique myers
The BEST Po-Boy in NOLA. Everything was great, and the walls are lined with blasts from the past. But the sandwiches stole the show, as they should have. I guess if you’re over 100 years old you gotta be good at making something!! Will be first on my list next visit!
Sara Mitchell
Outstanding Po Boy! We tried the shrimp, catfish and alligator sausage- incredible fresh bread, good Mayo and fresh veggies. The shrimp and sausage were the favs. Mixed order of regular and sweet potato fries satisfied everyone. And I can highly recommend the frozen Front Porch Lemonade.
Alex Rodriguez
One of the most delicious things I’ve ever ate. We walked from the French quarter which took about 45 minutes and this was worth every step.
Dion Mills
Very nice food and impeccable service with a friendly environment. I recommend heading to the bar area to avoid queueing for a table. You can order the same food there also.
Abrar Kandy
We had a feast from here. The line was really long and it was really hot. There aren't many places to sit on the inside. I recommend getting it to go out finding a time when they're aren't busy. The Jambalaya is amazing, but very salty. Fried pickles and French fries are on point. Rum cake and bread pudding are the best I've had. I wish I bought more of those. The shrimp porboys are a local favorite, but I was disappointed in the flavor. It didn't hit the spot for me, which is why they lost a star in my book.
C H
Had the James brown and I think they could have made it a lot more spicy. It was good and the place had good friendly service with a welcoming vibe. Saw the place on food paradise and I had to try it. Got there late and I did not see a bakery so if you go, plan to show up early.
Stanley Cassavant
The food was amazing! On a recent trip to New Orleans, I asked my Uber driver, who was a local, the best place for authentic New Orleans food. He told me that I had to try Parkway Bakery & Tavern. He was right!!! The food and atmosphere was amazing and the whole experience felt authentic. You'll find everyone from lawyers and politicians to locals to tourists such as myself; everyone gathered there for one thing - amazing food!
Derek Ratliff
My first ever real poor boy. I ordered a little bit of everything from the menu including jambalaya, cheese fries, a James Brown, and a dessert. Two full meals that were outstanding. The other half of the James Brown might have even been better the second day
Kevin White
Yeah you right. They have an amazing shrimp poboy. And service was great we got there at 5 minutes to close and Mike got use order and drinks. Much appreciated. The patio is nice and all the staff were friendly!
Ryan Rogers
Made sure to make it here for Po Boys during our New Orleans trip and it lived up to the hype! We got a surf n turf po boy and the James Brown. Both were fantastic - would recommend getting the smaller size unless you’re really hungry as the large sandwich was massive and more than we could eat. Definitely a great spot for an authentic po boy!
Christopher Diaz
Googled “best po boy in NOLA” and Oh. My. God. So glad I came here on a Thursday because they had fried oysters so we got 1/2 fried shrimp 1/2 fried oyster po’boy & gravy fries. Just absolutely delicious. Oh, and the bread pudding was also fabulous.
Viraj Mhatre
Very busy place. I went on a weekday still there was a long queue to order food and pickup.
I felt this was a bit overrated as the PoBoy sandwich was okay In taste. I got a small one after almost 20 mins.
Bar also available with limited selection of Cocktails, Beers and Wine.
daniel provencio (Danpro)
Surf and turf po boy is 👍👍if I had more thumbs I would give it more. Get here early if you don't want to stand in line …
Craig Smith
I had a craving for fried oysters and so I found this place on google. I placed a pickup order for a half shrimp half oyster poor boy..delicious! Both the shrimp and oysters were good sized and lightly salted, nothing crazy. The flavor was great and tasted fresh. The French bread had a nice crust and was soft inside. Ask for it “dressed” for lettuce, tomato and mayo. I asked for a side of remoulade..thoroughly enjoyed and very filling. Worth $20 imo
Brenda Cheramie
One of the best shrimp poboys I have ever had! Can't wait to go back. I am willing to try a new spot but never leaving NOLA without stopping here.
Ashley Payne
The food is fantastic! We had two Poor Boys, fried pickles and mixed fries. I also really love that they do alcohol to-go! The grapefruit vodka frozen drink was DIVINE! The ordering process is seamless and curbside is very efficient which made us feel covid safe! All staff we interacted with during pickup were wearing masks. Would definitely eat here again.

It’s hard to think of a better introduction to the New Orleans Po Boy than the one provided at Parkway’s. From the laid back outdoor dining area to the well oiled machine that is the kitchen, they have things down to a science here. Go early or at off times, or you will definitely wait. That said, the food is well worth standing in line for a bit. Tender crispy shrimp, savory oysters, and juicy roast beef are all excellent options, but I typically go for the shrimp. Get it “dressed” (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, Mayo) and add some crystal hot sauce for the full experience. Yum!
corpus FUSION
I was blown away. Best New Orleans po-boy sandwich I ever had. Everything from the toppings, bread , and the filling. OMG! What a sandwich!
Everything you might heard about this place and how awesome their Po-Boy sandwich's are. Cause they're right. It's insane how delicious they are.
It's a most stop on your list to do and eat on visiting New Orleans.
Felicia Jean Cresci
As a well known staple to New Orleans for over 100 years, I had to try this place, wow it was great! I had the 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 oyster poboy and it was hands down the best so far, it even beat out my previous best, lol! I saw someone say something about the bread being dry in a previous review, well as a native New Yorker, I know bread is critical in any combination of dishes and this was the perfect accompaniment to a fantastic sandwich! First of all the shrimp & oysters were fried to perfection and the bread just complimented it as a perfect vessel to be served on, it was perfect with just the right amount of crispness! Lastly, Mike was a great bartender with a wonderful personality, I will be back!!! I thought of a picture after finishing my meal but Mike took this on my way out. I also posted this a few weeks ago on my other profile, you must try this place!!!
J&C
If you’re in New Orleans, you have to stop here for their delicious po boys! The first time we went, we saw Anthony Mackie picking up a to-go order so you know it’s great!! We haven’t had anything on their menu that wasn’t delicious. On top of that, the staff is always very helpful and kind. Love the environment and decor. The seating is plentiful. And they have a large parking lot. Truly one of NOLAs gems.
Tom Steenhuysen
Delicious Po-boy shrimp and even more amazing bread pudding!
Robert Nichols
I can see why the roast beef gets such good reviews, it's the way you like it. Sloppy with the fixin's dripping onto the paper. As a worshipper of my most favorite place, this one lacks a bit of flavor. The fries are just that, fries, hot and fresh. They need catsup salt and pepper, or any flavoring you bring. The whole process of parking, ordering, getting your drinks , and picking up your order can be a bit confusing on your first trip. My next visit will be for the deserts and maybe some chili or the jambalaya.
Jennifer M
One of the best po boys in New Orleans - the James Brown! Fried shrimp and BBQ beef in a sweet sauce…incredible! The line was long on a Wednesday during lunch (30 min wait) but our large order was ready within minutes.
We also tried the fried oyster poboy (which was also delicious!) and the roast beef poboy (wouldn’t order it again, especially compared to the james brown and oyster poboys).
Jonathan Peyton
A must stop if you are in NOLA. Wide selection of po-boys - shrimp does not disappoint. Big place so if you have a large group and get there early enough you can find a table to fit everyone. Large parking lot. Friendly, clean, well maintained. Put this one on your list.
Erin Hart
After spending the weekend in NOLA can easily say this is the best sandwich I have had. Creole bbq shrimp Po boy was so delicious. Fabulous find.
Felicia Cresci
Wow, I love it! It was early afternoon and my stomach was telling me it’s time to eat. I figured it was a perfect time to continue my difficult task of discovering the best restaurants in New Orleans, someone has to do it, lol!
Zachary Dallaire
Some of the best poboys in the entire city of New Orleans. I haven't tried some of the other more popular places in the garden district, but Parkway beats the socks off of everywhere in the Quarter and on Canal that I've tried!
Janelle Morgan
Another fantastic experience at Parkway with delicious food and drinks and great service!

Overall it's a fun atmosphere, good drinks, and food. The bread for the po boys was excellent. I wish the roast beef had more flavor and gravy. The oyster Po boy was top notch.

One of my favorite stops in NOLA. Their poboys and their butter rum cake is out of the WORLD. They have multiple counters to place their orders and sometimes you can place your order on the drinks counter too. Thats what we did when we stopped by here Friday afternoon for lunch. They have HUGE outdoor seating so you certainly will be able to grab a table no matter when you stop by. Food comes out pretty quick.
We ordered the following items:
Shrimp Creole Poboys: Our Traditional Flash Fried Louisiana Shrimp covered in a delicious buttery Creole BBQ Shrimp Sauce! Delicious shrimp poboy with amazing creole sauce.
Veggie - Italian Caprese Poboy: Ripened Tomatoes, fresh Mozzarella and basil topped with salt, pepper and a balsamic reduction. Good veggie option.
Sweet Potato Fries: Delicious sweet potato fries. A lot of fries can be shared.
Butter Rum Cake: Do not leave this place without ordering their Butter Rum Cake. Soft spongy delicious dessert. We took an extra one to go and it tasted great even after a day.
Fantastic food and you will walk out stuffed if not over stuffed. Highly recommend this stop during your food tour in NOLA.

Just ordered the rueben sandwich and I have to say that was one of the best ruebens I've ever had. Perfect amount of sauce to kraut ratio. Kinda over stuffed with the meat which was perfect. I will definitely be hitting these guys again on payday
Collin Myers
The food was fairly good but expensive, and the service was unexceptional. The seating is quite close given COVID, but they do keep the outside seating heated on cool evenings. A fun location with ample parking, but nothing to make a special trip for.

Best Po boy I’ve ever had. Tried a few different flavors during the time I was in New Orleans but the shrimp Po Boy changed my life and was by far the best.
Once you have gulf shrimp nothing will ever compare. They’re so thick and juicy even when they’re lightly battered and fried. They have sauces and remoulade to put on the side that is way more flavorful than anything I’ve found for shrimp in the PNW.
This is something you crave until you return. I can’t wait to visit New Orleans again. The food experience was like no other. Get the shrimp Po boy and fried pickles.
Xaundra Washington
Great food . Great service! Love the cool and calm atmosphere. The portions are very good. The regular fries could be seasoned or something. The fries with gravy are good. We got the surf and turf and the shrimp poor boys, both large which was plenty! Definitely enjoyed the Barq’s root beer !!
Daniel Stepel (The last Baby Boomer)
This is one of those places where the experience is more than the food itself. In other words, you have never really had a Po-Boy until you had one in a joint like this in New Orleans. If the Po-Boy is not your things this place makes an excellent Ruben. They also have a full bar. So order up your favorite drink and laissez le bon temps rouler.
Brenston Treaudo
If anyone knows me they know I love this sandwich shop. It reminds me of growing up when I would go to my favorite neighborhood sandwich shops around the New Orleans area. The Surf-N-Turf should be illegal it's so good. Also the shrimp poboy and roast beef are just as great as stand alone sandwiches. Every time I come back home this is the second place I go after I drop off my luggage :D. I hope they will be around for the next 300 years at least.
Lance Cagnolatti
Ok ok ok. This place is rocking!!!❤️❤️❤️
I got the "James Brown" with Jambalaya on the side. We also ordered the catfish and grill cheese poboys.
t harris
James Brown was great!! Beef sausage not so much. Prices were okay. Would definitely try just the shrimp.
num1lsufan
Long line but moved rather quickly. This place is a cozy, neighborhood bar and Po Boy shop. The atmosphere is great and feels like it hasn't changed in years. Always fresh, always great no matter what you get! If you visit New Orleans, you must visit Parkway for a po-boy!
Harmonese Pleasant
Okaaaay, so I expected more. A LOT more. Simply put. I’m from New Orleans and this is my first time going. I’ve been hearing about this place for years. Sadly, the food isn’t that great— definitely not as good as it’s hyped up to be. I can’t speak on the ambiance of the place because I called my order in and went through the drive thru. The gentleman who answered the phone when I placed my order + the ones at the drive thru were kind though!
Cash Nichols
This location was absolutely delightful! I came in expecting to get a regular Hamburger and my expectations and idea of sandwiches, burgers, and Po Boys have been completely and irreversibly changed. When ordering, I was given the option between a small and a large sandwich. I found that the larges were comparable to a little larger than a Subway footlong and the smalls are like that of a 6 inch from Subway. The food here was absolutely delicious and the portions were quite large, definitely easy to feed the whole family with smalls! The Burger was by far my favorite sandwich with the Roast Beef close behind. They also offer regular fries, roast beef fries (They are absolutely delicious),chili fries, cheese fries and chili cheese fries. They also serve classic glass coca cola bottles along with many other popular sodas in glass bottles. The aesthetic here was delightful, with ragtime music playing and memorabilia everywhere, this truly is a family friendly environment and I can whole heartedly say I will be back next time I'm here In New Orleans!

Pretty chill place with plenty of seating. No hostess so need to go to the back of the bar and place your order. Any table is up for grabs. Based on how much seating there is this place gets super busy during peak hours. But no wait after 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. Parking in the back of the establishment so no need to park in the street. The roast beef Po Boy was a disappointment, which is famous here at Parkway Bakery and Tavern. Not the best I had before. The flavor was lacking, the gravy left a weird after taste and the bread did not hold the sandwich together very well. Every bite the roast beef came flying out. But the bread was good though, that was only thing good about the sandwich. The fried sweet potatoes were excellent, fried to perfection and crispy. Enjoy my foodie connoisseurs.
Allen Whisler
LOVED the original roasted beef poor boy! There is plenty of seating and a good flow for ordering. Has a very relaxed feel!
Mary Wells
Roast beef was elbow licken good, loved our catfish & shrimp poor boys as well. Fries were fine, organized line that went smoothly. Would highly recommend. I only give things five stars if they are sit down & everything is perfect so 4 stars is high for me. Go! It’s worth it. Prices too are great.
Amanda Reiser
Good sandwiches although they were kind of dry. The vegetarian po boy was only french fries on bread with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mayo (if you wanted it) which wasn't great. There are better places to get vegetarian po boys in the city for sure
Kevin Below
This is one of those reviews where you really do not know where to start and end when words cannot describe your experience. When we arrived at parkway I didn't feel like this was a tourist trap off of bourbon street. I felt like we were locals going to Parkway like we had every weekend all of our life growing up but indeed this was our very first time. The workers were very cool, polite and at times funny. Reminded me of having dinner over at one of our Aunt or Uncles house. The line was super long but it moved fast and once we got our order in the food came out fast. The Shrimp Poboy from Parkway would go down as one of the best food I have ever had. The combination of superb baked Bread with perfectly deep fried shrimp along with all the toppings made this a Poboy to die for. I know I had no idea what Homemade Remoulade Sauce was before going to Parkway, but now I will never forget it for the rest of my life. We went during the Happy Hour which lasts from 3 pm to 7 pm. The drinks were spot on and complemented the food in a magical way. Parkway is a must for anyone living in or visiting New Orleans.

Outstanding experience! The food and ambiance is perfect for authentic New Orleans cuisine. Service was A1, I recommend the James Brown Po Boy(which is pictured) and the sweet potato fries. Great experience!
Christopher Corkern
This place is great! The food and atmosphere is the best
Branden Laumann
I have eaten at many places with traditional New Orleans Roast Beef Po Boys but this place has THE best! My perfect combination for the Fried Shrimp Po Boy is to add ketchup, Crystal Hot Sauce, and lotsa lemon juice!
Tom Alden
I had heard of Parkway Bakery & Tavern studying the best places to eat in New Orleans for our trip here. They claimed to have the first and best Po Boys around. I was not disappointed. The Surf and Turf ( roast beef, shrimp, and gravy) was fabulous! I also tried the sausage (gator and pork) and it was almost equally delicious. Gumbo was an awesome side dish. Lunchtime on a Monday was crowded but moved along nicely. Staff was very friendly and entertaining. I would rate Parkway a must for any visit to New Orleans!
KSW
This place was packed, yet there was plenty of parking. The restaurant happens to have its own private parking lot which was convenient. Upon arrival, the line was out the door. Lucky us, a gentleman told us to go to the bar. According to him, that's what the locals do. Though the bar area was crowded, we were able to secure a table, place the order, and receive our food very quickly. I had a catfish Po Boy and my friend had a shrimp on bun. We shared an order of fries, which work plenty for both of us. The catfish Po Boy had two large fillet cut catfish pieces which was plenty. The French bread was fresh and the vegetables or as well. My friend had more shrimp than bun, it was like the shrimp were falling everywhere. I would recommend this place to locals as well as tourist, it is a great representation of good New Orleans cuisine. The prices were average I found the french fries to be a bit overpriced, yet they were tasty.
Stephanie Merrimon
The food..the atmosphere...The Po boy with shrimp..yum..the Po boy with Alligator Sausage was soooo good..the mix fries regular and sweet potato was the business
The brownie cookie and banana pudding was yummierzz!!
Plus..bonus
And awesome bathroom..clean and well decorated..
Loved it there everything was awe-mazing
Hector Bermudez
Best Po Boys in Nola. Away's out from the hustle and bustle of the quarter but so worth the trip. When we visited this establishment we took the trolley out and walked it over. It was a fun adventure for lunch. I will for sure visit this place every time I come to NOLA.
The fried pickles are a must for any pickle lover. The same batter used for the shrimp/fish sandwiches I presume gives it the great taste. You can't go wrong with the shrimp Po Boy. The bread is baked fresh and the ingredients are such a perfect balance for the sandwich. The Beef one was super tasty drenched in gravy as well. We ordered some chili cheese fries and they were just perfect to compliment the sandwiches.
The little bar inside is a cool spot to grab a beer and a Po Boy. This place has it going on. Be wary its popularity does create a big line at times but totally worth it. The locals know it and the tourists keep coming in. I love the old school signs everywhere and memorabilia. LOVE it LOVE it LOVE it. Thank you for the good times and awesome FOOD!
Joel Rose
Best po boy sandwiches out of four highly rated places that I tried. Huge portions, reasonable prices for the size and quality of ingredients. Roast beef was great and so was the fried shrimp. Staff friendly, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Pet friendly. Closed on Tuesdays. Oyster sandwiches only available Monday and Wednesday.
Sara
Super friendly staff. Pro tip: you can order both alcohol and food at bar and skip the line. Po boy was average. Not bad at all just not amazing. Went to Parasol’s the day before and this just couldn’t stack up. I would have been disappointed if we’d had to have waited in line for it.
Bree Darling
Yerrrr You’re playing yourself if you don’t go! Coming All the way from New York! Yerrrr!!!
Mike Anderson
Get the Surf N Turf Po Boy....you'll thank me

2nd Visit:
Had to come back and bring more friends too! This time had the James Brown and oh my goodness. Just amazing. I wish I could of eaten a large! This is now my first stop when visiting NOLA.
Come a little bit before lunch on a weekday and no wait!
1st Visit:
Great place! Expect a wait but well worth it. Lots of seating. Shrimp poboy is great. Shrimp tasted fresh and very tender. Surf and turf looked amazing and wish I had got one!!
Dondré
This is a cool place to get food. It's very unique and has a lot of personality. The service is good and the food is great. I got the alligator sausage poboy and it was so good. I recommend it for sure. The fried pickles were extremely salty to the point where I couldn't eat more than three. They also have some good desserts including the banana pudding.
Brittnee Blair
This place is amazing ! The po-boys are delicious! Whether you’re interested in the crispy crunch of the golden popcorn po-boy or the savoury gravy filled roast beef po-boy you will LOVE this place! Just remember to order the banana pudding for dessert! It’s divine.
Nick Pass
LIGHTS OUT!🤤 I got off my flight at 3:30pm and drove straight here. Food, atmosphere and people are INCREDIBLE. I’ve dreamt about coming back to this restaurant for years.
Hands down the BEST Po’Boy in Louisiana!
David Boquet
Suggested to me by a coworker who lived nearby. Loved it. Great staff. Food seems a bit pricey until you see the portions. Believe me, the small poboy is NOT small. The french bread is amazing. My favorite stop on my visit.
Trixi Katt
Best Po Boys around! Fun place. Very busy. Was lucky to get a couple spots at the bar. Bartender was fun and makes a great Bloody Mary. Try the poutine too. Fantastic flavor
Tyler Young
I came in with high expectations based on the reviews and left underwhelmed with the quality/price ratio. The customer service on the other hand, was excellent! Friendly interactions from all the employees even if the wait took a while. I ordered a large po boy with half oysters and half shrimp for $17.25. The shrimp side was excellent and packed with tasty shrimp on fresh bread however the oyster side lacked flavor and the bread was so tough that my wife and I had to throw it out! I went especially on Monday to try the oyster, but was not impressed at all.
Macy M
These po'boys are a MUST! the shrimp was better than the catfish. Sweet potato fries were good too!
Nicole Chilcott
Phenomenal po’ boys!!! Truly the best I’ve ever had. Come hungry and be ready for minimal activity after because these sandwiches are huge!
Alesia
Great atmosphere, great history, great quality of the bread and shrimp. Love the gift available to purchase for souvenirs. Sad that oysters are only available for only 2 days during the week but my favorite poboy👏 …
J B
Popular and famous location with delicious PoBoys . It's a absolute must try if you can .
Tom Shott
Great place for NOLA po-boys. Actually the best. Definitely a must for visitors. The pictures and reviews say it all 5 stars!
Martin Mulvihill
Best coleslaw I've ever tasted. Fries are crispy. The roast beef po' boy is fantastic.
Chris Lile
Been trying to make it here the last 2 trips to NOLA. Finally did and it was well worth the wait. Best Poboy I've ever had hands down!
Thomas Karasek
I'd eat and drink here every day of my life if I lived in the area. Food is delicious, best Po boys in town and the drinks are great too. A little pricey but worth every penny.
Brian Harvey
Great sandwich, lots of history. Staff was matter of fact - they’re busy, they’ve been around a while, kind of take it or leave it attitude but the food is so good you take the good with the bad

Been here a few times since my first review and I've tried mostly Po-Boys. I found out recently Parkway now has Vienna products from Chicago. I'm from Chicago, I love Vienna hot dogs, and so I was intrigued. Since it's hard to get here without special ordering from Chicago, I've driven to Baton Rouge previously to get a Vienna hot dog. Of course most of the time I've been disappointed in my search for hot dogs. Just not a good thing here.
Anyway, I digress. I ordered a large Vienna corned beef po-boy and a Vienna hot dog, fried pickles also.
Corned beef was pretty good, good bread tasty, I was satisfied. Unfortunately, even though they offer a hot dog bun or a different kind of bun (I got a hot dog bun), somehow it just don't come out right. First off they have the Vienna all-beef hot dogs which are not the ones you want. Secondly they cut the dog in half and fry it. Just is not right!
So I guess I'm going to have to just order from Chicago or make my yearly trips and stuff my face in Chicago with Chicago hot dogs.
2017
Great place with great history. Supposed to be the best po boy in town. I was warned by the girl who would be my girlfriend that it might be a long line. When we walked in, there were about 20 people in line, which I was told was "nothin". Didn't take long to get to order, though.
I had a large fried shrimp po-boy, fried pickles and fries.
My Poboy was good, tasty shrimp, great bread. I got it dressed. Good flavor. Not the best I've had here, but in the top 5.
Fries were were hot and well done as requested.
The fried pickles were real good too.
My lady had a Reuben sandwich. The corned beef was awesome, and I think i might get that next time.
Plenty of tables and room to sit in a few rooms.
Everyone is friendly.
Drinks are refillable.
Condiment table is in the ordering area.
Shannon Lett
Immaculate poboys. We got the award winning James brown and split it. Both of us loved it and we filled by the last bite. So flavorful and fresh. Adequate tented seating that was routinely cleaned. Friendly staff
Shontell Forrest
Greeeat po-boys! I had the roast beef po-boy and fries drenched in roast beef and gravy, yummmm 🙌 I have to say, though, as a huge Bloody Mary fan, I was not a fan of theirs 🙈 …
Peter Brady
Fast friendly service despite being in line behind a tour bus. The James Brown was delicious and so are the roast beef gravy fries.
Amanda okayestMOMever
AH-MAZING!!!!
We had a Shrimp PoBoy
Fried Pickles
Potato Salad
BREAD PUDDING, ICE CREAM SANDWICH and ok banana pudding. Everything but the banana pudding was to Die for!!!!
My friends and I shared and this is what we had left over ... half the poboy, pickles and bread pudding!!!! And we are crawling out of here STUFFED 🙌🙌🙌 oh yeah they have very clean bathrooms and a fun atmosphere!!! Y’all don’t come to NOLA and skip out of this hole in the wall!!!!
Xuan Wang
make this your first stop in New Orleans.
The bread is so good, crispy and chewy at the same time. Well baked.
I like the oysters and the shrimp ones. Oyster is juicy, the shrimp has a on point chewiness. Both are well seasoned.
I also tried the surf and turf, the beef’s season is great. If you are a roast beef fan, try this or get a whole roast beef one. I found it’s hard to chew and I had to swallow the bite at the end lol. Worth to try tho!
Derek E
It was worth taking an Uber to this place after visiting the cemeteries since they are outside the French quarter where we were staying.
The shrimp and roast beef poor boys were amazing I took two small ones to share and they were more than enough , the bread pudding and the rum cake were awesome as well . They do have a full bar and plenty of seating also . Highly recommend visiting , don't forget the chicken and sausage jambalaya , needless to say I was stuffed after the visit .
Arsalan Bachani
Had high expectations and it lived up. The shrimp catfish mix poboy And special bread pudding are delicious! Highly recommend.
Kyle Reinfried
I've been to parkway twice. Once on my first trip to Nola , once on my fourth trip . Why did I not got the 2 middle trips? I don't know...I plead insanity.
Parkway is a must. They have the best variety of poboys aka poor boys, some of the most delicious/award winning ones, and have ample seating. Seating is a big deal to me, because I like to eat right away vs take out and be able to sit and enjoy.
It's a cool atmosphere when there's a large amount of people. Almost feels like a beer hall, but for sandwiches.
M St. Julien
Sloppy perfection = shrimp and roast beef poboy dressed with extra pickle - GOOD LORT!!! That's all I have to say about that...
All kidding aside, I enjoy Parkway every time I make a trip home to N.O.
Myra Singleton
My husband and I absolutely loves this place.we drive all the way from baton rouge just to eat here. Their food is amazing and Their drinks are very good. Especially their frozen drink. It will sneak up on you lol, which I like lol. If you ever pass by stop and give them a try. They even let you order online.
Kat R
Very good! We all enjoyed our food and tried a wide variety from roast beef to shrimp to blackened chicken to catfish. They were ALL enjoyed by the whole family, including kids. The cole slaw and banana pudding were also delicious! We'd definitely come back again when we're in town.
Graciela Conklin
The best place to eat a poor boy! We tried shrimp, oysters and alligator poor boys. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, it was hearty enough to hold all the ingredients.
Jason
Best roast beef and gravy po boy.
The oyster is also very good too.
Bring your appetite or check your pride and get the 5inch because that 10inch is killer!
Can get busy but line goes quick and process is smooth.
Winnie Leung
Got the shrimp, the surf and turf, gumbo, and sweet potato fries. Po’ boys were delicious and the fillings were on point. Half a sandwich (or a “small size”) was very filling and more than enough for me. The gumbo was rich and perfectly done.
Michael Nicosia
So much fried food, but so good. Loved the shrimp. Definitely need to have a group to share the fried pickles with. Excellent, though. Had a great time. Man, the bathroom is in an awkward spot.
Jared Schierbaum
Service was fast and the food was fresh Went and ate a Surf & Turf Poor Boy with Sweet Potato Fries chased with a sweetened house tea. Tables were clean and the employees with hospitable. If you haven't been get there!
Syed Ashrafulla
It's the best poor boy sandwich I've ever had. Get the fried shrimp for a meaty dish or the fried catfish for a fishy dish. Also get whatever special they have and grab a side of the remoulade for dipping.
Ngaire Honey
The line to get in was pretty long, seeing as we went during Mardi gras season, but it was a gorgeous day outside so we ordered to-go at the bar. We were served quite quickly and just went over to City Park (very close) to eat our food like a picnic.
We both got surf and turf poboys and loved them. We had had one years ago and my husband said it was one of his favorite sandwiches he could remember. So, we decided we had to return during our very short 3 day trip to New Orleans.
We will certainly be back.
Samuel Edmondson
The line was really long, so we stood in line for ten minutes then placed a call in order and got our food in about ten minutes when the wait would have taken at least 30. The shrimp po boy was pretty good and had a lot of shrimp on there. The remoulade sauce was delicious, and I put a lot on there after.
Rhonda Magee
Food was decent but I expected more flavor from a New Orleans cornerstone. Where's the garlic, bell pepper, and onion in that gravy? Hit me with a lil spice in the back of throat! I loved the atmosphere and the service was great!
Ranford Roper Jr
Went here while in NOLA for Essence Festival. OMG the food is delicious. We ordered different stuff to share. One of the best for po'boys, they have plenty of seating to enjoy with family and friends.
Hemi “Hemieatsfood”
It’s Poboy time!! And Parkway Bakery and Tavern do them pretty bloody good. Monday’s and Wednesday’s they have the Fried Oysters version Yum. We also tried the shrimp version also good. Great bun, crispy lettuce, fried goodness and Cajun sauce. They also do a pretty good Bloody Mary.
Gyn Yen
First time trying po boy’s!
So tasty! Must try the BBQ shrimp flavor!
Noah Baldwin
Shrimp Po Boy dressed, then add ketchup and Crystal's hot sauce at the table. Just go with it, you wont be disappointed.
prathamesh patange
Crowded place. Talking about the food this place is known for there po'boys. There best po'boys meat are fried shrimp and roast beef. I had a lucky day and I got both meat in single po'boy in their day's special. The bread was ok and so much stuffing. You can't eat without getting messy. The shrimps were so flavourful and the roast beef was very juicy and tender.
Nubnqen Williams
The shrimp poor boy was excellent! I was hesitant because usually when you get a Poboy the bread is thick and hard. Their bread was fresh and soft which made it easy to eat. It was stuffed with shrimp and the fixins and it was delicious. Now I know where to get a Poboy and I'll definitely be back.
Amy Davis
Can never go wrong with a fried shrimp poboy from Parkway. A classic! We loved the fried pickles too.
Gisele Berniard
It was raining hard and the guy was so friendly. My food was ready upon arrival and when I got home to eat. It was delicious 😋😋😋. Burger was grilled to perfection and the fries were crispy and warm the roast beef gravy was garlicky and browned to perfection …
tara king
I ordered the roast beef and shrimp po-boy and the turkey and sausage gumbo. The food was so good but the price was a little high. I would recommend this place since the food was that good.
Carol Hutchison
Best shrimp po'boys in town! You must have one... fries are hot and delicious, specially the sweet potato one.
Sean Crawford
Best Poboy/Poor Boy I've ever had. Very reasonable prices for what you get. Plenty of outdoor seating, very fast service even when they are busy as hell. Easy street parking nearby. The ambiance is about as down to earth as you can get with cheap plastic fold out tables and folding chairs that you might expect from an outdoor wedding reception. I got the James Brown poor boy and I was impressed with everything from the quality of the bread to the quality of the BBQ beef, it provided a stark contrast to the mediocrity of other restaurants. Was it messy? Yes. I am usually an overly fastidious person, but sometimes the mess is worth the hassle on account of the flavor. 10/10. You don't need to be rich to eat like a king in NOLA, this place is proof. I'll be back to try out other sandwiches, soon.
Pete Smith
Awesome place to eat! I was surprised how busy they were at 2PM, but after eating there, I now know why. Great story - opened in 1911 and only closed temporarily after Hurricane Katrina. I ordered the Parkway Surf n Turf (shrimp and roast beef) dressed. It was so delicious smothered in gravy. I want to go back and try other of their poboys!
Stacy Kelly
I grew up on the East Coast eating seafood my entire life. This was the best fried oyster I have ever had. They piled almost a whole dozen on the small sandwich - glad I didn’t try the large!!!
Mark Moceri
A Chef's Review
OMG...Having been to "Sandwich Heaven," in other cities, (Al's Italian Beef, in Chicago, and Jim's Steaks, in Philly), I was in search of a kick ^SS Po Boy while in New Orleans. Sure...everyone has one! Well...At the recommendation of a local, I was steered to Parkway Bakery and Tavern. Thank Gawd I was. The line down the side of the building and filled tables of patrons munching away was a good indicator. It took some time to get through the line and I had the opportunity to read and figure out the menu. So...by the time I hit the counter, It was the award winning "James Brown," (BBQ Beef, Shrimp, Spicy Mayo, for a kick), dressed. WOW!!! This stacks up to Al's Italian Beef Combo, Jim's Philly Steak and dare I say...and maybe then some. What a sandwich. You have to go here! It's tucked away in a neighborhood. I got a regular size, which was pleanty. Go ahead. Get a large, have two meals. It's that good!! Chef Mark
Gina Koffel
Absolutely amazing food. Prices are very reasonable and great menu variety. The drinks are delicious and the staff are polite, welcoming, and efficient. Love it!!
Tiffany Stockstill
Very cool spot. Little crowded but once you stand in line to get your food -they have a back patio with a lot of seating. For the humor, guest give fake names when ordering. The staff pronounce it over the intercom so you get a lot of good laughs. I think one guy’s name was “Bye Felicia” 🕺👋🤓 As far as the food goes- you won’t be disappointed, it’s better than 5 stars and genuine New Orleans food with a sprinkle of soul. Can’t go wrong visiting this authentic Nola eatery.
Roxanne Russell
Poor boy sandwich was good Thanks
Lottie Hamrick
Food is great, had po' boys, etufee and bread pudding as well as banana pudding, If you don't mind the wait and crowds.
Josh Gunn
This place is popping not just with shrimp po boys but the crowd. Make sure to get their before lunch starts if want a table inside. The food is incredible. Worth the price for the first poor boys created in NO.
sarah sparks
There is no need to go anywhere else for a Po' boy. This is it. The food, the staff, the beer. You can't beat it
Mark West
Parkway bakery is one of the best Poboy restaurants in New Orleans. Everything is always fresh and delicious and it’s a fun atmosphere. Just make sure you get there early enough otherwise there will be a line.
Max A
Decent sandwich (roast beef) but it needed some salt and additional dressing. The fried pickles were outstanding and the ice cream po’boy was nice as well. Don’t miss the condiments section. Go here if there’s no line - the sandwich is imho not worth waiting for.
Ramon Gomez Meda
I ended up here advised by a friend when coming to New Orleans to lecture at the University. The beef poboy sandwich I took was excellent and the atmosphere unique. I really enjoyed it
A. H.
Haven't been here since COVID started. Had a fried shrimp and roast beef poboy.. and they were as good as I remembered.
Paula Douglas
My dad grew up in New Orleans he hung out there in the late thirties and in the 50s he started bringing us here cuz he still loved Parkway would be our first stop we came to New Orleans we loved it too next time we come to New Orleans we will be by fantastic place lots of memories glad it's still open
Jessica A
Soooo good! I’m a local and it was my first time stopping by. But definitely won’t be my last. It was really crowded but the line moved quickly. I got the surf and turf po boy which was delicious and sloppy just like I like it lol. The bread pudding was such a perfect dessert hot fresh and sweetened perfectly.
Nick Pecora
One of the best Po boys we have eaten. We were going to Tulane for a tour and found this little gem off the beaten path and it was well worth the ride! We had the Parkway special with pot roast fried shrimp and fried oysters ! You must stop here!
Ali Kirk
Came here on the recommendation from a local- ordered the LARGE roast beef with gravy. Please do not make the mistake of ordering a large. It was humongous. Also ordered fries with gravy.
Meat and gravy were delicious. I ordered mine dressed (with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and mayo) which I’m on the fence about. Lettuce doesn’t belong on a hot sandwich imo. Fries were just OK...nothing to write home about.
VERY heavy, huge portions, friendly and fast service. Voted best po boy in the city. I don’t think po boys are my jam but if you want to eat one, come here.
Royal J
The staff is super friendly and the food is Great!!! Definitely a top Po-boy restaurant in the city of New Orleans.
The McCreas
Classy place in a location away from the hustle of French Quarter and downtown NOLA.
The owners were very kind and accurate in the recommendations for the food a nonlocal would enjoy. Both meals where delicious and had me wishing there was more in the end.
Sarah Thomas
The best poboy joint in Midcity and my favorite in all of New Orleans! Recent national award winners for their Surf & Turf (shrimp & roast beef)! Amazing bread pudding with rum sauce. Affordable too. Worth the wait when there's lines!
Juashua Villarejos
The shrimp Pioboy was cray cray amazeballz. I wasn't as impressed by the roast beef debrief fries. I feel they roast beef lacks flavor, but a little salt helped it taste a little less bland. At around 8pm on Saturday it was not too busy.
Napturally Nawlins
The best poboy I've had in a long time! They pack it with meat! Surf N Turf...so good!!! Will be going back!
Andrew Shen
Good affordable po' boys. I got the fried shrimp/roast beef combo, but I probably could have just gotten the fried shrimp or the roast beef separately. It gets crowded but beers are pretty cheap and service is good. The regular po boy is a good size and the large is really big.
Ashley Fisher
So amazing! I was sad when my surf and turf was all gone lol. This is a mandatory stop for me every time I come to NOLA. I love everything about this place!
Bernie Alvarez
Came to New Orleans for the first time and since my Airbnb was nearby this location. On top of trying my first Poboy, it was my first taste of Alligator and that sandwich was banging. Too damn delicious that I’m surely coming back for a sandwich before my flight back home. Powerful drinks too!
Madeline Schmitz
The roast beef poor boy is what to get
Preston Coles
Absolutely LOVE Parkway Bakery!! We don’t live in New Orleans but every time we visit it is an absolute must. Sometimes it can be very crowded with the line out to the street but it is worth the wait. It is not the cleanest restaurant in town but it’s definitely fun and good. The service is always very quick. They have a big menu with a lot of good options.
Elizabeth Cearley
Loved the oyster poor boy! (Only available Mondays & Wednesdays). The surf and turf (shrimp and roast beef) was really good too but when I go back it will definatly be the oyster poor boy. We got there 30 mintues before they opened and we were 3rd in line.
S. M.
This is a popular, well known place to get po boys in New Orleans, so be prepared to wait in the line. I had the fried shrimp Po boy which was stuffed with lots of shrimp. My husband had the roast beef and gravy sandwich. Although he felt like there wasn’t very much gravy. Overall it was a good po boy experience.
Tammie Wallace Puls
Love love love the roast beef Po Boy! The watermelon tea was also awesome and refreshing. Well worth the long wait and that alone should tell you what you're in for.
Jason Ferris
I'm from the Washington, DC area and this is by far some the best food that I've come across in LA. Tammie Q. gave me 10 Star service, even when she was extremely busy! From what I've read, they've had the best Po'Boys since 1911. Highly recommend!!!
James Eller Jr
The pictures say it all, I haven't had a shrimp poboy with that many shrimp before. It's like some one in the back was trying to get rid of as many shrimp as possible. :) and I didn't mind. Great taste, and great service will be back next time in NOLA.
petersonA95
My favorite poboy in New Orleans. They really load the sandwich up with shrimp. The shrimp itself was well battered and the sandwich was delicious.
Tarikul Islam Papon
Best poboys! Tried their shrimp and roasted beef. The roasted beef poboy is finger licking delicious.
Pavithra l
I think this place is overhyped. We waited in line for long time and our food took while to get to us. We ordered shrimp, oysters and gold fish po boy. Oysters were bit soggy n fish flat. Shrimp was good. Biggest disappointment was d bread it had no crunch n tasted bit stale.
Albert Cruz
Visited this place on the recommendation of Reddit and it was an excellent recommendation. The staff is super friendly, the food is amazing. The shrimp Po boy and beef Po boy are great. You can ask them to cut the small sandwiches in half if you want to sample it with friends. It is safe here during the day, when we went the police stationed an officer here.
Christopher Zakem
The best Po’Boy sandwich in America. And the Bloody Mary is crazy good ! Such awesome vibes
Tom Muñoz
Good shrimp po boy and banana bread pudding. A good size line to place an order bit worth it. Friendly staff and comfortable environment. My friend from Seattle was curious about the bags hanging on the tent eating area holding water with a penny in it. Staff said it was to keep flies away but would not share recipe. Highly recommend.
Ren Maheu
I made a large takeout order to feed 10 people. I was unsure if i had give. Them enough time or
If it was even possible. You guys were perfect! Kendall (sp) took my order and made it so easy. The food was packaged up in one box and neatly labeled and organized. The entire order was correct, and delicious. Thank you Parkway for making my family dinner spectacular !
Alexander Miskell
Seriously the BEST Po-boy I’ve ever had! Get the oyster if you’re there Wednesday or Thursday!
Nicole Leonard
Fried pickles aren't on the menu, but order them because they're amazing! Especially when you put them on the grilled turkey po'boy! :D Great staff, amazing food, all around awesome! Loved it all! Thank you!
Linda Snider-Ward
Good food; great oyster poboy. My daughter enjoyed the thanksgiving poboy.
Lauren Brown
I liked my food a day later cold...straight from the fridge. Hubby had the gator po boy & I got a half & half po boy with catfish & shrimp. They only halfsies w/ the seafood po boys. If u want to skip the line go to the Tavern & order a drink. Our bartender/waitress was BEYOND HELPFUL & SWEET. She let me sample the house-made mango infused vodka & 2drinks to help me make up my mind. I finished it on the way to the airport ;p
Matthew Marino
Great food and large portions. Brought the kids here and they loved the grilled cheese and ice cream floats. We tried the shrimp poor boy and calamari and both were great, and the sweet potato fries are fantastic!
Nathan Olson
This place is a must if in New Orleans! Great po-boys and the jambalaya is the best I have ever had. Reasonably priced as well.
Angus Bennion
Good po’ boys! I tried fried catfish for the first time here and I liked it. Also had the shrimp po’ boy.
Susan Morris
I love Parkway. I always name them as having the best shrimp po boy in the city. Staff is terrific and the food is consistently very good. It’s an older neighborhood-type place, which adds to its appeal.
I’ve gone alone, with family, and with friends from out of town. When dining alone or with a friend, I’d sit in the bar, where I could order food and it would be served there. With larger groups, we’d sit outside and order at the counter, which was cumbersome, but the lines didn’t seem as long before the pandemic.
More recently, I left with an out of town guest (with a heart condition) because we didn’t feel up to standing in one long line for beverages and an even longer line to order food.
Yesterday, I took my granddaughter to Parkway for lunch, thinking it would be more manageable on a weekday. It wasn’t. Lines were still long and the wait for our food was also long. It was crowded and cramped. The food was, as always, very good. But the experience was stressful and took far longer than it should have.
I would give Parkway four stars for the food but only one star for the poor dining experience. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning soon — though I love the restaurant and the food they serve.
Marcial Rodriguez
Favorite place to visit everytime I come home. Oyster po-boy is killer, but i hear the surf n turf is delicious as well.
pamela weston
One of New Orleans best Poboy in town. James Brown poboy is what i had this time. All of there Poboy's are delicious .
Michelle Costigan
I don't live in the New Orleans area anymore, so when I do come back for a visit my husband and I can't wait to have some poboys. The line will be long and you'll wait but at the end you'll be happy you did....I suggest you go into the tavin have a drink and place your order and they'll bring it to you. Better than standing in the long line.
Kent Prochazka
Great Poor Boys! And yes they are Poor Boys...Surf and Turf and Reuben. Big meaty tasting and juicy. Enjoyed the Bread Pudding, moist and rich with plump raisins. Skip the Vanilla Old Fashioned. Gets busy but plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Bar area is good to...Marsha was friendly and very helpful. If you want a Poor Boy this should take care of that craving in spades.
Chris Snider
Great spot. This place is huge. It’s legendary for its Poboys and lived up to its reputation. The attached picture is the small one. It had about 20 medium sized shrimp on it.
Todd Whirley
If you want an authentic NOLA poboy experience, Parkway is where you need to go. Forget fighting traffic downtown. Lots of parking and amazing food. It’s where the locals eat.
Joe Spadea
The best po-boys in New Orleans! The service was fantastic and they do a great job handling the large crowds amid the pandemic. Take your pick of po-boys and other sandwiches. The Gulf scrimp and roast beef are very flavorful on the Leidenheimer's bread either separate or together in the surf n turf. The James Brown special takes the surf n to a new level! The rueben is piled high on rye bread. The meatball po-boy is stuffed with their homemade meatballs and red sauce with plenty of tasty cheese. An absolute must stop for anyone looking for an authentic New Orleans po-boy!
Jason Barrett
Bbq shrimp Po Boy was amazing and I think the best thing I have had in NOLA. Definitely will be back. Place was packed but they did a great job of getting everybody in and out. Amazing place
Tom Sawyer
Parkway is one of my favorite places in New Orleans. A Happening Place. Poor Boys are truly best in town. Today I had the shrimp with fries!! Perfection. Justin Kennedy is from Biloxi and understands how to cook seafood!!!
David Litrenta
I wanted a PO boy from the minute I got here, and before... People told me to go to parkway, and I resisted all other temptation and held out for parkway.
It was worth every bite. Not only was the price right, not only was the insides of the sandwich perfect, the crown jewel was the bread. I can't even explain how great the bread was.
Go. Now.
Jordan Pace
The James Brown Poor Boy. Deliciously messy fried gulf shrimp and braised beef. Just do it. Oh, and the fried pickles. Worth whatever wait, but if you want to beat the crowd go early or go in the mid-afternoon (2-4).
Eric Murphy
Great food. Huge portions. Fantastic homemade condiments especially the tartar sauce. Will make this a staple of ever visit to New Orleans. The bread pudding is OMG!
Amanda Nunez
GREAT sandwiches. The sauces were tasty. The fried pickles were so yummy. The alligator sausage po boy and shrimp po boy were delicious!
Jeff Bourgeois
We all know about the legendary Parkway Bakery. But we went on Thursday to the farmer's market and surprise, Parkway offers free parking in their lot for that. So cool of them.
Ian Otto
Seriously the best oyster Poboy I've ever put in my mouth. Some places you go to for service, others for views but none of it matters when you put their food in your mouth. French Bread a 10! Oysters, Shrimp and Roast beef are ridiculous.
Steve La
Probably one of the best po boys in the city. Great bread. It was light, crispy, and had a perfect "thin-ness" to it for how much they loaded these po boys down.
Ben L
Great po-boys.
Update: 2023 - Roast beef seemed a bit off compared to last visit 3 years ago; kind of dry and didn’t seem to as tasty, but was good. Tried the potato salad. Didn’t care for it. Fries are good.
Kyle N
Delicious food and friendly service! You can use your credit card here. Usually a wait for food so plan accordingly.
Doss
Service was fast and friendly. I consider myself a shrimp poboy afficianado and this one rates near the top. The size is enough for any adult and the shrimp are overflowing. The fries with gravy are not to be missed either.
M Caruso
No one does it better. This is still one of my go to places when I visit home. The surf & turf with chili cheese fries nourishes my soul like nothing else. I'll be back soon I hope.
Farrel Prince
Awesome all the way around love the food and prices are right for the food u get u don’t leave hungry
Shawn
Delicious poboys, there is definitely a reason they were voted the best in New Orleans. The servings are huge but a little pricey. I got a fried shrimp/fried oyster combo and was not disappointed.
Adam Conerly
Stopped in during my last trip to New Orleans. Great "poor-boys" as they call them, mine being the "surf-n-turf" which consisted of golden fried shrimp and roast beef with gravy; top-notch poboy. Next time I'm down I will definitely be back and probably eating the same thing.
Roberto Dabdoub
Parkway doesn't need any introduction or endorsements. They have an open dining room concept with decorations that will take you back to the past. Outdoor seating is a good thing now days, and they exceed at that.
Their pooboys are so fresh and overwhelming. It's a challenge just to keep the tomatoes in place. One item falls out of your pooboy mouth, and the entire creation collapses.
Vegetarian can have the Caprese pooboys or the veggies burgers... Not fake shrimps allowed.
Dan Hanak
How a po boy should be. Standard po boy dress and options in a cart to add your own. Great prices, large portions. Be prepared to wait in line
Mike
I tried a lot of Po Boys in Nola, and this was the best hands down! Can get super busy so get their early or late... Both the fried shrimp and beef were great (or even better in their combo with both in!)
Pascale Lamarque
Poboys were excellent! The bread pudding with the bourbon sauce is the best I ever had. Glad my grandma won't be reading this.
Rosie Salas
Now that's how a Po'Boy should be. But go hungry or just order the small cause they are HUGE. Got the shrimp cause they only have the oyster on Mon and Wed. So good!
O D
Went here for lunch. Had the Catfish poboy, if you enjoy tartar sauce please stop by and get their homemade tartar sauce they have and place it on sub. Sub was very tasty, the fish was fried well but not dry. The bread even though was very flaky was easy to pull apart and wasn't very chewy. Overall was a great Poboy and I look forward to trying the other ones they have. Oh Yea please be prepared to wait in a very long line. I waited for 30 min to order and apparently the line was very short that day O_O.
Stephen Way
Came here after reading all the raving reviews about how this place has the best po'boys. I'll have to admit this place was awesome!! The only complaint, the wait.
David Genard
A true New Orleans classic. A great menu but I prefer to stick to the tried and true. Love Barq's in the bottle and the service is great!!!
Audrey V
Local favorite.
Our family is divided on our favorites. Big roast beef (dressed) fan. Solid amount of gravy, multiple napkins needed.
Oyster and Shrimp are also crowd favorites. Note the menu as Oyster is not every day. BBQ shrimp is also VERY good. If you are looking to spice up your typical shrimp order, try BBQ Shimp.
Joe Chatman
Dear Lord the portion sizes make you want to come back alone. But the taste is what you'll remember! My only complaint would be that I thought the fried pickles were too thin.
Tylaw's LT1
Good food, prompt service. I happy the shrimp po'boy my wife had the Bbq beef. Mine was excellent. Hers was just good. Overall good experience. Even met a guy from my hometown in Arkansas.
Chissell Reese
I only get the Shrimp poboy & sometimes the mixed fries. Their menu is not that impressive to me & what I'm used to. The pound cake is thick & has no taste ! The bread pudding is OK. The Cole slaw is not that good, ingredients are cut up large & not shredded or cut up fine. The customer service is good.
Devin McNeil
Came to NOLA on a business trip and had done some research prior to coming about the best po’boys in NOLA and I decided this place was the best. Was not disappointed! Everything was so good! The bread, the breading on the shrimp, it was all perfect. Next time I’m in town, you bet I’m coming here!
Jeremy Oborny
There is a reason there is a line out the door. This is the best food I had in a trip to NOLA, and we ate at some high end restaurants. I had a shrimp poboy and wife had a roast beef poboy. We shared. Both were phenomenal. I will be stopping here every time I visit NOLA.
Damon Porrill
Amazing place to get true NOLA food. It’s about as authentic as you can get and it has been a joy to see this place grow over the years. When I used to go this place was just a bar with a sandwich counter and now it is a full-fledged restaurant that takes up half a block! The service is very fast but be prepared to wait for a table at times. They have lots of space but the food is THAT good that folks will wait for it. Po Boys (all types) and Cajun favorites rule here and the desserts are so authentic and each one amazing. If you are planning a trip here you are in for a treat just pick your time so you don’t wind up waiting - they do have lots of parking here but if staying near the FQ just grab and Uber/Taxi and they will take you right to the door. Be prepared to leave stuffed and enjoy!!
Eddie Champ
Awesome overstuffed shrimp and oyster p.o. boys, great place great food and great friendly staff
Ron G
Whew! Bring your appetite...or a friend to share with. Food was very good with large portions. Friendly staff and cool atmosphere inside!
Clay Hackett
Yes, we waited in line for an hour. And yes, it was really hot out in the screened-in porch area. But let me tell you, none of that matters when you bite into your po'boy. We had the surf n' turf, fried pickles, coleslaw, and their seasonal cocktail. Outstanding food. Make the trip and experience it for yourself!
Amanda Nesbit
This place is so delicious. Worth the wait in line! They have a great bar with the perfect amount of drinks. I always get the surf and turf and gravy fries. Everyone that works here is so nice and helpful. It's a great sandwich shop where you eat outside. I highly recommend going here at least once! So good!! They also sell cute shirts!
MISTY RITTER
OMG of you truly want the best po boys... this is the place! It is a wait but a wait that is well worth it!
Myra Thompson
Mmmmm! This place is so good! The sloppy roast beef po'boy, jambalaya, fried pickles, oysters and shrimp po boys were the best! I also enjoyed the fried pickles, probably some of the best I've ever had. Adult frozen lemonade was very good as well.
Marco Ortega
If you find yourself in New Orleans and are looking for a home town Po Boy, this is the only place you need to go to. Best place in NOLA.
Elizabeth Battle
FANTASTIC ROAST BEEF 12HOUR SLOW COOK ALSO THEY DO HAVE VEGGIE POBOYS FOR THE VEGANS &VEGETARIANS!!. VERY ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS!!
Shethar Taylor
Oh you have to wait in line but it is well worth the wait. The Reuben sandwich is Awesome and the fried pickles were good
Jesus Cital
Fresh and hot shrimp poboy and chili cheese fries. Amazing food and service.
Kyle Smith
Went here 2 years ago and I talk about it all the time because this poboy blew my mind! I had it with crystal hot sauce and I'm convinced it was made for this sandwich specifically. It's a match made in heaven. There's pictures of celebrity's getting sandwichs inside and I see why, it was the best I had.
Cristina Twigg
Delicious poboys, good service, decent beer selection. Plenty of covered space for seating.
Roarie Willow
Really yummy. Fun to try PoBoys from the place they came from. Perhaps a bit expensive if that worries you.
Garry Borrello
Shrimp Po-Boy very delicious and cold beer on tap Perfect score !
John Noonan
Golden-fried catfish po' boy was melt-in-your-mouth. Washed it down with a local brew (Abita Amber). Banana pudding for dessert. All of it was delicious.
Aaron Zornes
Solid classic po-boys & very friendly wait staff
Esp. “Surf n turf” ... others highly recommend gravy on your fries if you ask the staff ... personally, I have to cut back on the calories and fat somewhere do I passed on that lagniappe ... but others swear by it
And they *do* stay open until 10pm with last order 9:45pm
Love Estopinal
I had so much fun here! Best poor boy I've ever had and I'm from new Orleans. Indoor and outdoor seating. My whole family came. Young and old people can enjoy. I want to eat here everytime I'm in the area. I got the surf and turf has roast beef and friend Louisiana shrimp. You can tell they are definitely our local shrimp because they taste way better and are huge. The Poorboy's are hooked up. My grandma's friend shrimp Poorboy had so much shrimp she just ate the ones that were falling off the side and had a whole sandwich for later. I ordered fried pickles too. They were perfect! Came with yummy remolade sauce and I got some ranch too. I ended up putting my fried pickles on my Poorboy as well!
Smevin Bravis
This place is the Po'Boy king, I don't care what anybody says. Well worth the wait, plus you get to chill in that charming retro decor. They've even got a bar! Plus the food, while a bit costly, comes in huge portions. All. Love.
Christopher Good
My first authentic poboy and it was an experience! Settled on the James Brown which was half hot beef and half fried shrimp. Delicious.
Q Scott
As a New Orleans native, this is absolutely the BEST place in town for an authentic poboy! The fried shrimp poboy(dressed) is the best, nothing on the menu is bad, the entire place feels like home
Gabriel Robichaud
If you want to go around noon you can expect a waiting line. This is the bad side to it. But if there’s a line, there’s a reason. I had a very good po boy. The restaurant just has an old style that they seem to have kept through the years. I love the way they call you by name with the microphone.
Christina Riordan
Always busy be ready to stand in line for a delicious poboy.
Nicolette Burnette
Service was great, food came out quickly and tasted amazing! If you are torn between the small and large Po’ Boy, the small is plenty.
Isabelle Matik
Delicious po boys. Such a great nola experience. I can't wait to try some more.
Alanna Grayce Campbell
Are you kidding me? The wait for takeaway was more than worth it (also not a bad wait at all) and the food was incredible. barbecue shrimp po boy was a show stopper. Was told they're the best po boys in town and I absolutely believe it. PS portions are GENEROUS so keep in mind!!
Kat Doucette
What a cool experience. From the history of this place to the food and ambiance. Great poboy and loved the counter style service.
Steven Williams
Great Poboys. Had the Cajun BBQ shrimp. Lots of free parking.
Marla V Figueroa
Great place!! The shrimps Po’boys are delicious, the best in New Orleans.
Channing Hayden III
This place has some of the best po-boys in New Orleans. They've been in business over one hundred years and is where the locals go for killer po-boys. If you go on a weekend, expect a long wait. Recommend the surf and turf and the debris fries.
peggy mary mccormick
We were surprised to find that they closed at 6pm.we all had roast beef poorboys& they were great.Barqus root errors in a glass bottle. Truly old New Orleans.
Plenty of safe parking too.
Nice visit w/ friends from Ga.
Graphics In Atlanta
They know how to do a po-boy! The bread was good. Shrimp well seasoned and sauced abundant! Fried pickles also good!
Bizzy Schorr
A real Now Orleans experience! Po'boy subs, good drinks, can't go wrong. Not fancy! It was crowded and loud though.
Jessica Dobson
So much local flavor, and I don't just mean the outstanding food and giant portions! (That's a tallboy for reference). Happy Hour drink prices are also impressive!
April Weber
Best food and service I've had in a very long time!
Quinn Calvert
Best po'bois I've had while visiting the (admittedly touristy) parts of N'awlins.
This local Sandwich pub serves classic New Orleans style sandwiches that trace a clear lineage back to the original sandwiches made to feed "those poor boys" during the streetcar strikes of The Great Depression.
Made to order, these local delights are piled high and messy, but delicious beyond their affordable pricetag. You honestly can't go wrong with the variety on offer here, with many options highly rated and some even award winning.
A must visit for locals and tourists alike.
Michael Saucier
Legit the smartest take out situation I’ve ever seen. Doesn’t hurt that the food is straight fire. Old school bar area is worth a look if they aren’t busy, too. Old school place that’s kept up the quality and maintained it’s feel while also updating and changing with the times. I salute you parkway poboys.
Wilson Go
I always come back to this place for Mt shrimp 🍤 or oysters por oy …
Jesse Fig
Good cocktails and beer selection. A must stop for the Po’Boy hunters. Enjoy!
MARIE BOWMAN
It's a must you try them!!! FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!!! Got the shrimp po boy and mixed fries...(sweet and reg).. you haven't fully experienced New Orleans until you've been here
Antonio Samay
Shrimp 🦐 Poboy is great. I love the roast beef Poboy as well. Their shrimp & roast beef Poboy sandwich is worth a try.
Their potatoes and sweet potato mix is delicious
Edder Zelaya
Great selection of poorboys, they even have vegan style burgers. Plenty of parking but will still have a long line if coming at noon.
Johnny Mack
A must visit for former locals. Used to live on North Salcedo and could walk here for a bite or beer to go and walk along Bayou St John. After being gone for 2 years, we made sure to swing by and get a surf and turf po-boy. Hopefully won't be another 2 years before going again.
Bug Boston
First time there, but the crowd and lines speaks to the quality of food and great atmosphere.
Hannah Rachal
Placed a quick little mobile order for lunch. Roast beef Po boy. Whole fresh meat with gravy, not Ajou. Flavor is amazing. Restaurant is very well marked to know where to go for exactly what you need. Liquor, place an order, pick up an order. Urgent friendly staff. Great prices. Two thumbs up, five stars, hands down GREAT!
Willie E
Good po' boy sandwiches that you order at the counter and then pickup when your name is called. You can then find comfortable indoor and outdoor seating areas to enjoy your meal.
robert oliver iii
Great price Surf and Turf is awesome. The jambalaya is awesome as well
Mark Rosenbaum
The poboy was great, but the fried pickles were the best that I have ever had!
Michael Cohn
I've been loving this place for over 15 years. Their fried seafood is expertly done and always overstuffed. My son prefers the BBQ beef which is also great. The poor boys are a healthy size as well, regular is sufficient for me. For lagniappe, you can drink at the bar and also order food. This may be the best way to do it. One warning - tourists love this place too so expect a line.
Katherine Stengel
If you're looking for the real deal PoBoy, you have to check out Parkway. So amazing!!!
Quynh Tra My Nguyen
40min waiting in line on Monday at lunchtime. It was good and fresh. Prices were pretty cheap. Get the schrimp po-boy!
Naason Toledo
Best shrimp poboy I've ever had (only shrimp poboy I've ever had )
The large can feed two
Megan
Absolutely delicious. Amazing portions, prices, and taste. We got a lg james brown and split it. Full and happy!! Plus their patio is pet friendly and shaded! Our pup was very happy to come along and they gave us water to keep her cool ❤
Michelle Mitton
Good sandwiches and a fun counter and outdoor dining experience. A little expensive, but a decent place for po'boys.
Marquess Melendez
Awesome place in New Orleans. You guy's have to go to Parkway Bakery for there PoBoys. There are Amazing for real
Tommy Costales
Always a great place to get the best po-boy in New Orleans. Great and friendly staff. I would recommend a visit
Richard Webb
Great service(sitting at the bar) for lunch. Legendary sandwiches - did not disappoint.
AR Brady
I grew up in New Orleans, but have been living in Texas since college, I miss these places that are so common in New Orleans but so rare everywhere else
Kasii Mimms
10/10. Best poboys in the city! I love the drive thru and service. Justin went out of his way to make sure I was satisfied.
Cheryl Gregory
Had to try a shrimp Po-Boy at this iconic site. Although there was a long line it moved fairly quickly. The food was excellent--hot and delicious. The shrimp were falling out of the sandwich. Also, the restroom was super clean. I appreciate that.
Renecia B. Cullier
Poboys were was delicious❣️Service was great. It was outdoor setting and we had an overall great experience on Mother's Day Eve. Great dining experience. Very clean as I watched the staff moving quickly to sanitize tables and discard trash from surrounding tables where customers had finished and left. Will definitely be a place to put in our book of go-to's, especially for our out of town guests, desiring a taste of "authentic New Orleans seafood". This place is a New Orleans staple as I read on the back of their to-go menu that was on our table. Love their back story, food & service❣️👍🏼
Michael Hays
Got a shrimp poor boy and it was packed to the gills. They do not skim on the protein. Very busy but they know what they are doing. Don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fairly fast
Harry Hill
Excellent casual food. So much shrimp on the poo boy we ended up eating some without the bread.
Wes Elliott
The service was quite good, and quick at 11AM on a Wednesday. The food, overall, was impeccably excellent, save only the catfish poor boy, which was heavily under-seasoned and hence, a bit bland. It needs more salt either directly on the fish, or added to the flour coating. The Oyster poor boy was the best by far, followed closely by the alligator sausage. The jambalaya and fries were also excellent.
Chad Lamar
Quite a large Po Boy but lacking in flavor when compared to other great shops in town.
Mark Stark
Classic poboys. Surf and turf is the way to go, unless its Wed or Thurs, then get you Dat Oyster Poboy. Dont sleep on the jambalaya either. They got a full bar and lots of out door seating. Dont want to face the crowd, order online for pick up. They have a huge lot with delivery to your car. So convenient.
Tony Morris
AMAZING Po Boy sandwiches!! Highly recommend the James Brown Po Boy sandwich!! The Jambalaya was awesome too!! Will most definitely be going back to New Orleans for this!!
jim fite
Always delicious. Love their roast beef poboy.
Reade Smith
I bought a poboy here and it tasted pretty good. The people who were working made it for me and I paid them money for it and then I ate it. Overall great experience.
Heather Verret
Never had a surf n turf poboy before & have been craving another since! King cake beignets were also on point 👌 Really cool place with old school vibes. Place was packed but they were efficient with their ordering system. Oh, also try the mango marg! …
Henry Kilpatrick
The one with bbq is so good. I crave it all the time
Kendall Herman
Fantastic food and Service. It’s busy but worth the wait.
As I waited for our order. I asked one of the employees if it’s “always this busy.”
She said, “Yes! Thank goodness. We like that it’s busy. We like to work! We like our jobs!”
Markita
Always come here when I am in town!! One of New Orleans best PoBoy places!!
Dwayne
The James Brown roast beef and shrimp Po boy was average. The bread seemed stale and the toppings, especially shrimp were limited. If you're from a non coastal area, get the shrimp or try another place.
Glenda Hare
Employees should really be taught not to comment on the customers appearance/bodies. Food wasn’t that great either. Tried the James Brown po boy and it wasn’t anything I’d eat twice.
Drew Powers
Alligator poboy was exceptional. Wash it down with a couple of local Abita drafts and it's hard to have a bad day.
Angela DiLoreto
Everything we had on multiple visits was amazing!
Monique Mari
I love this spot. Been coming here for years. I love everything on the menu.
Self Made Babe
Went here twice during our stay in NOLA!! The first time we got the shrimp po boy which was delicious!!!!! So many shrimp and everything was fresh! After talking to the locals, they suggested we go back and try the beef one. The beef wasn’t disgusting, but i wasn’t really a fan. I would definitely prefer and Recommend the shrimp!
Char I
The place gets busy but that have a lot for curbside and they'll run you over the food in a golfcart. Such a great convenient concept. The PoBoy shrimp was good, bread wasn't as fresh but I love that they packed the thing with shrimp. Bread pudding was yummy. The sauce was very rice so if you can't handle that I'd stay away. The rum pound cake was dry. Jambalaya had great flavor but no level of spice.
Terri Rousey
You can get fish without a bunch which is good when you have to be gluten free 😉 …

It's good I don't live in New Orleans or I would eat here everyday and weigh 876 pounds. The James brown sandwich was amazing, as were the fried pickles. Would come back to NOLA just to eat here.

Love Parkway PoBoys!
Claudine Harper
Super friendly staff and delicious food in a no frills atmosphere. Hubby and I split a large shrimp po'boy and generous order of sweet potato fries. The shrimp were delicately breaded and perfectly seasoned. Fries were delicious too. Tried a similar po'boy at another nearby restaurant and there was no comparison. Parkway has the best!
Patrick Bordnick
Never disappoints! Great old skool poboys. Wild caught shrimp is fantastic and has over 20+ shrimp on a half.
Claudia Briggs
Best poor boy in the New Orleans area. I live in Gulfport MS and drive over sometimes just to eat at Parkway. But no matter my reason to be in the big easy I will always make a point to stop in at Parkway for some great food.
Lisa Austin
Ordered the BBQ Shrimp Po' Boy at Parkway from Goldbelly. Package arrived damaged, which happens sometimes. Goldbelly refunded me a few bucks. However, GM called me personally to make it right. Not to mention, the food is authentic and amazing! I will continue to order from Parkway and can't wait to visit next time I'm in NOLA.
danita pilart
Food is very good, Service is ok, could be a lil bit better.
Alyssa Wagstaff
This is definitely a must try New Orleans Po-boy shop! You can’t beat the fried shrimp!!
Kenneth Smith
I have eaten here at least once a month for decades, I've tried everything on their menu and many of their specials, and I have never once had a bad meal. My usual, and my highest recommendation, is the Surf and Turf poboy, add Swiss and dressed, with an order of fried pickles.
The line can get very long, so order ahead and take it to go if you're in a hurry. Otherwise, enjoy the delicious food!
If you overindulge (a distinct possibility), the nearby Bayou St. John and Lafitte Greenway are beautiful places to walk around.
Kimberly Langston
Always great. Outstanding drive thru and pick up service. Best poboys around!
Taylor Gillen
Now here is a place you can find the real deal when it comes to Poboys — they’re hearty but don’t weigh you down, and they have that perfectly crisp but soft French bread. You’ll leave the restaurant feeling cozy but refreshed, not bloated. You’ll pay a few extra dollars, but it’s worth it. You’ll probably find it packed, but the line moves quickly. For sure worth going to!
Zach Darst
Best Po Boy I’ve ever had, loved the surf and turf! Add an ice cold Barq’s root beer alongside and you’re in heaven. Fried pickles were delicious! So. Much. Food.
J Duke
Po' boy sandwiches just don't get any better than here. Yum!!
Julian Augustus III
Wednesdays and Thursdays feature oyster po-boys-always good. My personal fave is the Surf n Turf…
Connie Karnowski
Always a great fun & friendly place. Mike was great at the bar and the roast beef was off the HOOK.

Grade A Food
I had the po boy bbq beef
Better get there early.. line builds up quick
Opens at 11

Had the alligator poor boy. It’s a beet place the food is good!
Max Upp
Came to see what all the hype was about. Was not let down. Didn't like shrimp until today. Awesome po boy. Great spot. Saturday evening not too crowded.
Billy Crews
You will probably wait in line but the PoBoys are worth the wait.
Cate Walshe
super quick service and the food was delicious! loses a star cause basic fries cost 4 dollars which was a bit steep
Scott Sullivan
No Po Boy sandwiches can compete with this place. The oysters are the top sandwhich with the special James Brown sandwhich close behind. A must stop everytime we are in New Orleans.
Hsueh-Ping Wu
Best Po-Boy we had in New Orleans.
Danielle Pruitt
The food here was absolutely INCREDIBLE 💯 Could not recommend the place more best po boy I have ever had. …
Mark H Rubenstein
Hint. Go to the bar, have a drink and order your food to go. No wait or much less at the very least.
Amelia DeNinno
We had about a 1.5/2 hour wait in line, which normally would be unacceptable but the food was quite good which helped make it more worth it. Not sure if it is wait in line for that long good but if you can come at an off-peak time this would be a no-brainer.
Gary & Kris Steiner
Amazing Po Boys! The banana pudding was just so-so though.
Georgette Forde
Always a great experience at Parkway Bakery & Tavern. Now that the gumbo i love so much is gone, not a place I frequent.
Kelly Snyder
The legendary Parkway roast beef. The stress of ordering a roast beef or shrimp, or surf and turf. That’s Nola type stress. Perfection.
Jesse Fullbright
The food was ok but wasn’t my favorite I’ve had in New Orleans by a long shot . The man at the register needs to remember to not comment on peoples appearances. It’s was very upsetting to see him comment about the way someone looks not knowing anything about that person .
Connie Cotton
Roast beef poboy was so good! Well worth the wait time to order, but it really didn't take long for them to get our food ready.
Jason Hendricks
It's a historic location, but the poboys are just average. The lines are very long, so plan accordingly.
Clement Lin
Great food and great service! Shrimp poboy was excellent. Highly recommend the fries with gravy as well.
William Johnson
The best po' boy I've ever had. Even more interesting was to learn about the history of the po' boy, their first customers, and it's reconstruction post-katrina. This place is legit!
Brandi
I had the surf and turf poboy without bread. It was delicious. I was super impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the friendliness of the staff. They also went out of their way to take many precautions to keep their patrons safe...even announcing over the loudspeaker to please maintain 6' between all parties. Outdoor seating with multiple fans to keep the airflow fresh and plenty of room between chairs and tables.
Richard Santora
Always good, and just a little bit better than the rest.
Felix D. Katz
Parkway bakery is the best. My personal choices are of course the Roastbeef poor boy. It's all about the meat & gravy and also a French fry Po-boy. With the debris!!! Because it's all about the meat. Swiss on both. With a Barq's. Because "it's good".
Billy A
Wonderful atmosphere. Fantastic food at reasonable prices.
Michael Brandin
Just happened to stop in after parade and really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. Food was plentiful and good, but a little pricey. Had to wait 15 minutes, but they handled the crowd well. My bread pudding was still hot after my Reuben sandwich which took awhile to eat. Served with a rich topping made it very memorable.
Terry Pitman
What can you say about this place??? It is FANTASTIC!!!!! IT IS OUR FIRST STOP AND LAST STOP WHEN WE HIT TOWN!!!!! The shrimp po'boy and the roast beef are to die for!!!!! #Parkwayforpoorboys!!!!!
H
I've been going here for over twenty years. I eat at all of the other places from time to time too. This is my FAVORITE po boy shop in town. My go to po boy here is a large fried shrimp dressed. The quality is always consistently fresh and delicious. They're beyond generous with the shrimp. It's literally falling out all over. It's sublime. Everything else is really good too, but my heart is with the shrimp.
It can get crowded, so beware. They handled covid really well with their parking lot ordering system.
I've eaten here recently, and it was crowded. If you have concerns about covid and social distancing, maybe think about picking up your order and eating it on the bayou.
K Mac
A NOLA must do stop. The best po-boys in town.
Ted Wynot
Finally made it on a Mon or Wed. Best oyster poboy i've had. Love the whole encironment. Cant recommend this place enough. Super busy at peak lunch times.
RaymondGW
I definitely dig the food and the eggnog. Conversation was great too. I told the bartenders I was visiting from out of town and they gave me a lot of local recommendations for food and things.
Also, good fries are underrated and Parkway has great fries. They're crispy but not crunchy, large but sturdy, and the perfect amount of oil and salt. I had the catfish po'boy with it, and it did not disappoint. Would absolutely come here again.
Leah Williams
Super yummy! Sad that we came on a day that oyster poboys weren’t offered, but their other poboys were delicious nonetheless!
Crissy Bushman
I love this place! It took me almost 11 years to go here once I moved here. Boy was I missing out! Food is great and the atmosphere is very New Orleans. I've been several times. I had an issue once and the manager I contacted was absolutely insistent on making things right! Good vegetarian options too!
Edit 2022 still an amazing place and looks like they are doing great things expansion wise.
Chelsea D
Fantastic shrimp po boy, fried pickles, jambalaya, and sweet potato fries.
chris Allen
Créme de la créme of wild caught shrimp po boys! Nice drink selection too. The plus to this restaurant is that it has a free parking lot. This is a convenient feature in this part of town!
Andrea Celleri
If you are visiting and don’t have time to eat five different poor boys, stop by Parkway Bakery and Tavern And satisfy yourself with the best po’boy in town.
Nicholas Efstathiou
This place is a must have when visiting New Orleans! Get an Uber and go! The large shrimp po boy was large enough for my wife and I to share!
Joel Koerner
My second time to New Orleans and my second trip to Parkway. In the new reality of our COVID world, Parkway is managing things well with lots of outdoor seating. We split a beef poorboy and both had an Abita amber beer. Interesting crowd of what appeared to be both local folks and tourist. Great food, tasty beer and good service and a pleasing experience all around.
Don
Great place for small or large party. My wife And I split the meatball PoBoy and the caprese PoBoy with chicken. Both were delicious. We ate in the tavern part and it was great. Mari the bartender couldn't have been more accommodating. Thank you. We will be back soon.
Bob Ramstad
Classic. Off the beaten path. Worth the trip. The roast beef and bread pudding are excellent.
Jesus R. Yunez
Great food. Especially the shrimp PoBoy. Also service and courteous
Clean bathroom as well.
Recommend 100%
Pete McPherson
The po-boys are every bit as good as people said they were!
M K (Smuttynose)
One of the best poboy spots in the city. Now working to serve safely during the pandemic. In this effort, they're very well organized and careful.
I recommend the classic ham or turkey, Kansas BBQ, and Roast Beef. Grilled over cold. All dressed. The larges are a hefty meal, worth 2 really.
Bruce Ashley
Excellent fried shrimp po boy. This place is Natchly Nawlins and is consistently great.Son had BBQ shrimp po boy and it had 30 plus shrimp on it.
James Buscemi
Incredible!! My family and I have been eating here for literally generations. Its a bucket list stop for anyone visiting New Orleans. I recommend the shrimp po-boy but the roast beef is also top shelf. Whatever your taste... you will not be disappointed.
William Dunn
This place is AWESOME!!! Affordable food. Affordable liquor. LARGE SIZED FOOD. I'm 6'3" 280 pounds and could not finish my bbq shrimp po boy.
Adam Flory
That is the po boy I came to the city in search of. I went with the 1/2 and 1/2 catfish and shrimp.
Laura Rouzan
Had an excellent Shrimp Poboy. Lots of crisp Shrimp were delicately Fried and Dressed on flacky, tasty French bread. Loved it.
Everest Robinson
My server/ bartender Mari was the best 👌. I came in with family showing up at different times and ended up being at the restaurant for hours. Even after she was totally amazing to us all. She was very personable and sweet to everyone. Even after we stayed a little past her shift she was still an angel to us and came outside to take my families pictures. She made me feel like I was a regular and it was my first time at parkway tavern. Next time I'm in town I will be back and I will be asking for Mari.

Researched on Google Maps for a restaurant to get Po Boy sandwiches and this place had great reviews. Unfortunately, I tried the local favorite of surf and turf and should have just gotten one or the other. The juices from the turf made the shrimp pieces soggy. Didn't help that it sat for a few minutes in the sealed wrapper as I waited. Bread was just ok considering they are also a bakery. Flavor was good overall, but there are better options around.
Andy Frazier
Parkway Bakery and Tavern was recommended to us twice by New Orleans locals, so we decided to try it. It was amazing! The Po Boys were the best that we have ever had and the service was spot on. We went at lunch time on Sunday and even though there was a line out the door it only took a few minutes to get to the counter and the food was ready just a few minutes after that. By the time you walk over to the bar to get a beer the food is ready, so the timing is about perfect. I had the James Brown special with gravy. It was a dressed roast beef and shrimp Po Boy with pepper jack cheese. I would highly recommend it!
H-Town Julian
I got the James Brown and it was so delicious. They accidentally added Mayo even though I didn't ask for it but they didn't hesitate to provide another one. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area.
