Walked into the bakery at 6am and was greeted with a light, sweet scent of happiness; my eyes were bouncing around with excitement at the freshly made goodness. The very kind gentleman came from the back to take my order so I wouldn't have to wait for the customer ahead of me that had a large order. He was patient as I picked a variety of donuts to make my dozen and was genuinely polite. Definitely what I needed at 6 in the morning; you could tell that he loves his job. My family and I devoured half of the box as soon as they made it through the door. --Must Check Them Out.

Cute little bakery at the heart of Louisville. Be an early bird to be able to choose from all their variety. Everything is delicious, but we would highlight the cinnamon buns and the maple syrup and bacon doughnuts. Highly recommended!

The mark of a great bakery: we showed up around 10 AM on a Sunday, almost all the racks were sold out and they were still filling up new racks with fresh goods. What a great place for a sweet and subtle tasty Treat. Everyone who visits Louisville should visit this place. You can count on good attention to health code and the well-being of customers.

This is my first time eating Nords donuts but it won’t be my last. After tasting these donuts I realize that Nords is one of the two best bakeries in the city. The other one being Plehn’s bakery in St. Matthews. These donuts seem to have recipes going back to the early 20th century Germany. I was surprised not only at the flavor and freshness but the detail and uniqueness of these donuts. I now know why Nords is rated one of the best donut bakeries in the city. Friendly people and award winning bakery goods make Nord’s a winning combination.

Living just outside of NYC, I have been to some great bakeries. That being said this is perhaps one of the best bakeries I have been to anywhere in the US. The staff is very sweet and cordial. I suggest getting there by 9 am to get a better pick of things as they often do run out. Came to Louisville for the weekend and end up going all three days. A++ well done.

Go early! They are fantastic and a line will form. If you go around 8:30-10 expect little offerings as they have been bought up. One of the best donuts in Louisville, easily my top 3. I like the maple bacon, butter twist and apple fritters the best. Only complaint is the coffee. Would suggest going next door for that. But the donuts are exceptional!

Got a dozen donuts and a quart all for a great price. I've been told the line can get crazy but luckily it was raining and the line wasn't too bad. Really enjoyed the red velvet donut and the one with the bacon strip on top! Overall all the donuts were phenomenal!

These folks were some of the kindest, most welcoming staff I've ever encountered. The twisted, flaky, glazed donut was one of the best I've had. The smiley face cookies are the stuff childhood memories are made of. I didn't love the specialty donuts as much, but the people and service more than made up for it. Definitely check them out!

We came from Texas for the Equip Expo late Monday night. Was looking for donuts close to where we are staying. Nords bakery was found and it is truly worth it. The maple bacon was really delicious. The staff was so polite and made small talk. Hopefully get recommendations for places to eat. Always eat where locals eat.

My friend and I were in town for a festival and needed breakfast. We stumbled upon this little gem and met the two owners! They were soooo friendly and welcoming, asking about our trip and our dogs!!! We mentioned we missed ours after seeing pics and hearing stories about their dogs. They ended the visit by giving us a few donuts in the house for our long trip home back to IDAHO! I would 10,000 % recommend this place to anyone visiting Louisville!!!!

Pretty good! I actually really like the buttercream filled doughnut. It was so light and not overly sweet. It was my favorite. The maple bacon was a second favorite (and my partner's first favorite). The staff was also very friendly.

Very nice small bakery. We went on a Sunday and the line was out the door. They were polite, helpful, and the items we got were fantastic. When we go back to Louisville we will be stopping by again.

This place is awesome! Wanted to find donuts for a bachelorette party. This was the only place in the area that offered something beyond a plain donut. We were helped right away, everyone was wearing masks, and they were only allowing 5 people in the store. They had a wide selection and their cookies were adorable!! When they found out why were in town they gave the bride a cupcake and even offered us more donuts--we were amazing by the way! We will definitely be going back when we are in town! Thank you!

WOW!!! This bakery is the real deal! Authentic Norwegian bakery. So many options, you will have to go more than once to try everything. Staff is so kind and helpful, even during COVID-19 protocol. There was a socially distanced line out the door. Highly recommend!!!

What a nice cozy little store. Really good, fresh doughnuts!!! The cookies, and cakes as well. My job gets cakes from them all the time, so I have tried a few of them out before. This was my first time visiting the store. Very good, and super fast service. The staff was very friendly, and really helpful. I was in and out in a blink of a eye it seemed. Everything looked so good, that i wish i could have tried it all. I don't believe that they have a private parking lot of it's own, but I found a place to park on the street not far away. I definitely will be back soon. Thanks a lot!

By far some of the best donuts I've ever had. Great texture and flavours. Truthfully the simple glazed donut was the best one. And soooo reasonably priced. Goes to show that you don't have to charge an arm and a leg for a good quality donut!

Tried several places while in town for work, Nord's Bakery is bar none. The ingredients in their chocolate glazed donuts didn't taste artificial and they're light and airy. Worth a visit if you're in Louisville. Between 6a and 7a is the ideal time to go.

I have been coming here for years and have to say, I have been more disappointed in the donuts over the last year than at any other time. Something has changed. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the quality is not what it once was. New cooks/bakers? Has the recipe changed? The last dozen donuts I got were all under cooked. This has happened more than once in the last year. Fingers crossed it does not start happening more frequently.

This place is an absolute treasure. We went around 830am. The lady that helped us was so sweet and helpful! We bought more than we could eat, but everything was amazing. The unique flavors of donuts are fun and definitely tasty, but the vanilla cake donut was divine and the pastry with caramel and pecans on top was absolutely to die for. I wish we had found this place on day 1 of our vacation so we could have enjoyed it more! If we are ever back in Louisville, we will be back. 10/10 highly recommend!

This place was pretty good. Their prices are amazing, these are probably the cheapest donuts I have ever gotten. The glaze was nice and chewy, and the cream filled was good. They had a maple bacon, and that was unique in a great way, the bacon was crispy and added savoriness to the sweet donuts. Should definitely check it out if you are nearby.

The staff was very nice. The donuts were very delicious, probably the best I’ve ever had, they really put time and effort into their products. We have told numerous people to go here when in town. We will definitely be back when in Louisville. If you’re in the area it is worth checking out but they close early.

We discovered Nord's from Food Insider on YouTube. We were in town for a visit and everyone who we past with the box was raving about how great the donuts are. We had their maple bacon, classic glaze, cinnamon twist, and chocolate dipped glazed. All the donuts were light and fluffy and perfectly sweet. The staff was friendly and patient as we asked about some of their other desserts and pastries like danishes, decorated cookies, and cupcakes. They also had fresh baked bread loaves for under $3 each. We will absolutely come back and try other treats on our next visit. No frills shop and top notch baked goods. Enjoy!

If any restaurant/bakery in the state of Kentucky deserves 5 stars, it is Nords. My parents live out of town and had spoken to a bakery there about doing a special cake for a big event. They agreed to do the cake and have their baker call back the next day. The call came 3 days late and 2 days before they needed the cake. Not to mention they were rude about the cake design. My mom frantically called Nords and was met with immense kindness and willingness to do the cake on such short notice. Their pricing was also significant better than the out of town bakery. My mom raved about the friendliness of the staff and bakers at Nord's. They baked this amazing and beautiful cake and continuously said congratulations for the event. They truly saved the day and helped make it very special. Not to mention the cake was delicious! I have also worked with Nords on providing doughnuts for local events and they are always gracious to donate for local causes! They are a great business to work with!

As long as you get there early, you'll get some donuts. I'd recommend getting there before 10am. Had a pickup order and got there around 8:30am. Still had donuts, but they were going fast! Delicious, sweet, yeasty, & fluffy!

When we pulled up the line was out the door, within 4 minutes we had amazing doughnuts in our hands and were getting back in the car. Extremely fast-paced staff was very efficient in getting customers in and out. Be sure to know what you want before you get up to the counter and get there early if you want more variety in what kind of doughnuts you want, they sell out quick but it's worth it! They are delicious! When we went, there was a note about a $6 minimum for card purchases so be sure to bring cash if you're not getting many doughnuts.

Traveling from out of state and really wanted a donut. Nord’s is situated in a nice little neighborhood with a great coffee shop next door. The donuts are just what you want - not fussy, super fluffy, rich, but light enough to not sit with you all day. The staff member that helped me was very kind and brightened my morning with good conversation. Don’t sleep on this one!

Classic donuts. Simply delicious. The bacon maple donuts are the bomb! Bring cash. It also helps that they are next to Sunergos Coffee and the book nook. Books, coffee, and donuts for the perfect trifecta! They also make excellent cookies and cupcakes.

This place is amazing. Super friendly staff! The plain glazed is incredible. I could barely touch it with my hands that's how soft it was. The glaze is perfectly sweet and the dough is super soft. The French fry was my next favorite eating it normal is great but heating it up makes the butter in-between the layers melt but the outside still stays a bit crispy. So good! We also heated up the red velvet cake and O.M.G I've never had a cake donut so moist and soft. That is a must try. I can only imagine how their blueberry cake is. Everything we had was delicious you really can't go wrong. I will for sure be back!

Went a little late so the selection was pretty small. Tried the chocolate long johns and glazed donuts... WOW! absolutely delicious! The oil they fried the donuts in was clean, the dough was great, the chocolate was delicious... will definitely be back, but earlier next time to get more variety. Highly recommend! 35 minutes from my house, but will totally make the 70 minute round-trip for these, they're that good!

I was skeptical when I saw the reviews of this place online. I mean, how good could these donuts actually be? I drove over first thing this morning and purchased two dozen. The place had more donuts than I have ever seen in one place at one time. The building and displays are clean and organized, but well worn from age and the continuous task of showing off delectable treats. Other baked goods populated the area as well; however, I knew that I needed to stay focused on the donuts. This was a mission and there was no room to be distracted by the cakes and cookies and other items. This was my chance to see if the donuts were all that they were said to be online. I bought one dozen of a pre-made variety and then selected a second dozen with the assistance of the employee behind the counter. She was kind and patient. She clearly was used to people coming in with the blank- slate look of a Newby to the establishment. She explained to me what each donut was very quickly but also effectively. She was kind helpful, and very patient. Of course the mention of maple bacon had my attention, but then she pulled my attention to something called the "French Fry" stating that it was her favorite. (Now, I don't know about you, but when a person who works in a donut shop can specifically point out a favorite, I take notice.) So there I was, the skeptic, picking out cream-filled and cake, jelly-filled and iced. I walked out of the store with the confidence that I had enough samples to make an educated decision. I arrived home and waited for the family to wake up and that is when the testing began. What happened next is difficult to explain. Through the haze of euphoric pastry induced joy, my skepticism slowly washed away and I was left enjoying some of the finest donuts I have eaten. The cream-filled were good, the cake ones were moist and flavorful, the jelly was tasty and super full. Then there was the French Fry. I have difficulty expressing just how good this donut is. Layers of buttery goodness, light and fluffy, fried up just right. It's the kind of good that will bring me back again and again. As I looked down at the scattered remains of donuts and crumbs in the now mostly empty boxes, I knew that I would soon need to go back again to try the other baked goods. Of course, that is an easy task as I will surely be there again for the donuts.

Best in town. I've been coming for 10 years and have never been disappointed, unless I count the rare couple times they've been sold out. A Louisville staple that is unmatched. You won't find any crazy cereal topped confections, just perfect renditions of the classics.

I have been a fan of Nord's for a long time. However, I can honestly say something is not the same as it was years ago. The last Cinnamon Kuchen I bought was so dry that I threw it away. The chocolate icing on donuts and rolls seems off as well. I use to buy a rectangular shaped pan of chocolate rolls that were long like Long John's but those are gone and round ones took the place but the breading is not as soft. Very sad.

I am probably in the minority, but I wasn't bowled over by the donuts I bought here! I think I was expecting more cake-like donuts in lots of fun flavors - when I went, I was craving some sort of apple cider donut situation but they don't really seem to do that here. These are traditional yeast donuts and "long johns" (which are the long donuts) made with very high quality ingredients and skill. I tried some sort of crème filled donut, and a maple bacon long john and one with toasted coconut on top. My favorite was the maple bacon - with a whole slice of crispy bacon on top! They are good, just not what I wanted. And nothing is labeled so I had to ask about all of them in turn. Just not a great customer experience I guess. But there is a fantastic coffee shop next door! Definitely try for yourself.

I love donuts and am always on the lookout for a good bakery. Coming from Oregon where places like Voodoo and Bluestar donuts are considered the best, Nords blows them out of the water. Plus the staff is super friendly and price per donut is under a dollar compared to some of these places thinking they can get away with 4$ donuts.

Great donuts, very good. Especially the Apple fritter. The donuts got the five stars, and made up for the customer service. The lady working the front counter gave some wild sass when ordering. As visitors to the area, guess I should’ve researched prior and known to order a “Bismarck” and not a “Long John”. Research your donuts prior or she’ll let you know. Or they could just label them...

Really enjoyed their donuts. Passed my having a good basic glazed donut test. I did however, fall in love with their Bacon Donut!! First I've ever had and wasn't sure how well it would play. For my tastes it was wonderful. My wife thinks there should be two pieces of bacon on it, to even out the flavors. I can see her argument, but I loved it just the same. Staff was super friendly and had no trouble answering a few questions about the donuts, even though they were super busy. We weren't holding up the line, we were just asking what certain donuts were, because we were unsure. I have been to places where they treated me like asking "what kind of donut is that?" was an unacceptable question and they weren't even that busy. Happy to have found this place and will be going back for sure.

I love the bakery. They have the best donuts and cakes. On my last visit, however, the woman getting my donuts was pretty rude. I had no idea how many I was going to get but she made me give a number. Then when I exceeded that she huffed that was why she asked so she could get a big enough box. I don't know, I see what looks good and point. If this is an issue you could always put on an empty tray first. I felt so unwelcome. Most of the time I don't feel this way. It's usually very welcoming.

One of those local cozy bakeries. Very popular in the area. Will be very busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings so make sure you get there early! The donuts are very good. I'm giving 4 stars because of the disorganized way the orders were being taken when I was there. I was ordering a dozen donuts and the woman had to walk away and come back 3 times just to get my order. At other shops I've seen the employees just write the order on a peice of paper and then get the donuts. This seems much more efficient and you don't have employees bumping into each other, scrambling to get orders. Other than that, Nord's is fantastic. Will be going there again.

Nice friendly staff I ordered cupcakes for a birthday party and they had no problem making the flavors I asked for on such short notice. The strawberry and chocolate cupcakes are the best, if you love sugar go for strawberry but the chocolate delivers hands down as the best tasting not overly sweet cupcake. One of our favorite donut shops in Louisville. On a good day the place can be packed at opening. I've seen a couple pick up 8 dozen around 6 am that just tells you how special this place is. Louisville original that is our families fave. My favorite donuts are the bacon maple, regular glaze (amazing) and cake with chocolate glaze.

Tasteful and affordable donut place with a cafe area. Get there early, on Donut Friday the line is crowded by 7.20. It is fast service though. Suggestion to patrons, decide what you want while in line, don't wait to decide when it's your turn to request your items. Street parking but ample spaces early in the morning. I yet have to go there for breakfast on a weekend.

Always smells wonderful. The donuts are nice, I like the custard ones best or the creme. I'm not the biggest fan of the breading of the donut, but still a better quality than most. You can buy them by the singles or the dozen depending on how much you need. They also have a variety of flavors including maple bacon, if that's your thing.

Came here a few times on Uber deliveries and I am in love with this place. It is the cutest little bakery. Only downfall is there is usually not a lot of parking just because it is always so busy. The best doughnut is the French Fry Curler. It is amazing, light, and of course the name is cute. The staff is also amazingly nice and have a wonderful demeanor when serving the guests.

Nords is local flavor. Their maple bacon donut is legendary, and their enormous alligator donut is well worth the price tag. Local family-run, with a limited number of donuts available - several types are limited-availability - once they sell out, they won't be making more. However, I've never had to wait for service, and there's always been something available that I've been excited to eat. Would definitely recommend a trip to this local favorite.

Come every time I'm in town. Brought the maple bacon all the way back to Ohio the last time and my husband freaked out. I love that it's a local hole in the wall. I went this Fall on the day the time changed. The place was packed! The staff are super friendly and will describe every pastry even with a long line. Very affordable considering the quality. Best tasting donuts in Louisville. I've tried about 5 other places this year and this is the best one by far. Tasty, fresh and friendly service. My only nit pick points would be the hours and inventory. I wish they were open a little later so I could stop after work more easily. I wish they would at least keep a few Staples in stock til closer to close. Instead once they sell out they just don't have anything. It sucks because you never know which day you'll drive 20 minutes only to leave empty handed so you have to call every time, even if there is just something basic like a plain glazed that you want.

Nord’s Bakery is so delicious it makes me feel like a kid again! Nords is the go to place for donuts! My favorite is the French Fry because it’s a bit more surface area than the glazed donut. There might as well not be another doughnut place in Louisville. Some people love the bacon doughnut, which is amazing but the one to try is the French twist. It looks like a long john that's been twisted inside itself, very simple but tastes delicious. My family gets all of our cakes for birthday parties there as well. They do an excellent job and will make virtually anything that you ask. Every time that we visit, I get a picture with one of my kids with the paining on the side of the building, they love it!

Donuts are always soft and fresh. Regardless of flavor, you'll be happy with your choice. Donuts are cheap as well, or at least compared to the offerings in my hometown or at dunkin. Next door is Sunergos which is arguably the best coffee shop in Louisville. I love visiting here and if you keep within your daily calorie limit, you should be well under 5 dollars per person.

If you need to remember what a real donut tastes like it’s time to come to Nord’s Bakery... they have all the usual offerings but made fresh with high quality ingredients... the prices are good and the service is fast and friendly but Beware! They often sell out by 11:00am so better to rise with the early bird whose after the metaphoric worm than to miss out... and just when you thought this couldn't get any better, to top it all off Nord's Bakery is RIGHT next door to Sunergos coffee shop, so you can start your morning off with a one-two punch. But, beware because the phrase “I’ll take a dozen” has been reported to come out of peoples’ mouths involuntarily.

Situated at the one way split on Preston Street, Nord's is the quintessential neighborhood bakery you wish was in YOUR neighborhood. Their house specialty is the maple bacon long johns - so good they sell out super fast. All their other goods are top notch including their classic coffee cake with the crumble on top. HINT - if you are in town and want a dozen of their bacon donuts, call early and have them set a box aside. Otherwise be prepared to miss out! Best baked goods I've had in a LONG time.

Very cheap prices for amazingly delicious food! My favs are the chocolate covered honeybun and butter cream. The service u get from the employees is very fast (even if the line is very long, which happens more often then not.) I don't mind hanging outside to get my sugar fix. I've tried this place once before and it was pretty good.......for a donut. This time, not so much. Employee notices my crew outside, but is already checking out another customer. shouldn't be a long wait.....it's a bakery, ya just point at whatever fatty cake and go "that one" and done. Simple. After 15-20 mins of me impatiently waiting outside. hoping they notice my "I'm a paying customer" dance. Straight from the karen handbook. I come to grips with reality. This conversation, that I'm witnessing. between an employee and paying customer, isn't ending anytime soon. But, ya know what is? My patience. I'd probably give this place another try, if I was already in the area. But, No donut Is worth 20 mins of my life.

Here's a plus - Nord's Baker on Preston Street in Germantown is right next door to THE BEST CUP OF COFFEE IN TOWN, Sunergos. Morning magic right there. You won't be disappointed with the product. My fiance and I LOVE Nord's Bakery for their donuts. (they're so delicious!) When we got engaged we wanted to do a tasting at their bakery for cake because of that love and because we're all about supporting our local businesses. When I called them to set this up they informed me that despite the fact that they have over 15 flavors of cake they could only guarantee to let us taste the white and chocolate. And if they "happened to have any left over from another cake they were making that day" they would let us try that flavor too. Even after explaining that I didn't want chocolate or white cake at my reception they wouldn't work with me. I even asked if there was any way they could just make up a small batch from a few of the flavors that we were interested in since obviously it's insane for them to make up 15 flavors just for us. Nope. Chocolate and white were it. I told them to forget it because I don't want to waste my busy time trying cake I have no intention of buying. So disappointing! I really expected some kind of cooperation from them, but didn't get it. I can only assume they don't really like doing wedding cakes or that the other brides-to-be they deal with are perfectly happy with two unoriginal cake flavors.

I always have to buy the Maple Bacon, French Fries, Highland Cremes, Long John's, and then a variety of whatever my eyes and belly tells me will hit the spot! I also have to buy decorated cookies for my granddaughter, Caroline. She LOVES the icing!! As an aside, my son, his wife and daughter Caroline live off Bardstown Rd past the Gene Snyder going towards Mt Washington, and they will come to Nord's on a Saturday morning to get their sweet fix. Caroline always gets " the donut with sprinkles.

Yes, the donuts are fantastic, if you think Krispy Kreme is good stuff, bless your heart, and get to Nord's. That said, I can never pre order a thing from this bakery. Every time I call to order for birthdays I never get an answer. I know they are very busy, I have been in those lines for donuts. But it would be nice to be able to order something by phone. On the good side, not being able to order cakes from Nords has introduced me to many other fine bakeries in our city. I would rather keep my money in my neighborhood though, so next time please answer the phone! :-)

Oh my goodness, where do I begin? Having just moved here a few months ago, I hadn't tried Nord's just yet. This weekend, I had a friend in town and we decided it was a morning for fresh baked goods. Based on recommendations from a friend at UofL, we headed over to Nord's. Walking in, we were promptly greeted with smiles and when they found out neither of us had been in before, we were given complimentary goody bags of three doughnuts each to help us in our decision process. Naturally, we both ended up going with a few of the famous bacon maple doughnuts, but those were also accompanied by a French fried, a chocolate covered, and a powdered sugar. My friend had a raspberry-filled and said (in between large bites) that it was great and not too sweet. I will definitely be returning - for the price, the service, and the quality of goods, Nord's just makes itself easy to say "yes" to.
