Reviews of Butchertown Grocery Bakery
Brett Stakelin
Love this place. We've stopped here twice for coffee and breakfast on road trips. The sausage biscuit is out of this world. My wife only wanted one patty so she gave me one of hers and then I had three and WOW that was a lot of sausage. So good. Gotta try those cookies too if they have them. Browned butter bourbon or something like that all I know is it had butter and sugar and that is all I need in life sometimes.

The hot oat milk latte was not great, just go for regular dairy milk if you're able to or an iced oat milk latte. They do beautiful latte art though! The cream cheese danish was tasty but nothing to write home about. Great place to grab and go!
Leah Kelley
It’s a cute spot with some amazing bakery items—the croissants and biscuits were delicious. A little more menu variety would be preferable, as well as seating. Otherwise, it’s great and the basil peach cold brew was fantastic!
Amanda Newton
Food was great, coffee was amazing, shop is cute and I'm obsessed with the bubble light fixture. A little more of a "hipster" vibe than I prefer but def worth it.
Brook Sternberg
Good breakfast sandwich, inside seating is limited, they do have outdoor seating. Cute place, lots of pastries.
Ashleigh Chanel
Super cute place. It’s giving Stockholm, Denver, or Brooklyn coffee shop vibes.
Looks like a great place to work.
Definitely a great place to meet a friend and catch up.
I had the blueberry scone and it was yummy.
I also had hot chocolate with extra chocolate. Idk if they put extra chocolate in it or not but it was really good.
I’m excited to go back and try their breakfast sandwiches and other cooked food.
K Mac
Great breakfast. Wish food was hotter (gravy was just warm).

Last week we went to Louisville from out of state for my best friend's 40th birthday. I really wanted to make it special. I don't know much about Louisville so I just started looking at bakeries in the area for a birthday cake. I called on a Saturday to pick up a cake on Monday. Not only did they nail it with an amazing red velvet cake, but they also made sure to include candles for me. Amanda specifically made this an amazing customer experience. We also went in for breakfast one morning and it was delicious! I will be back here the next time I find myself in Louisville. Thank you for helping me make my friend's birthday a memorable one!!

Cool little Bakery on the corner. Tried the Hanna Banana as it was the chef special and it was okay. To be clear, the croissant was delicious but I like my sweets to be borderline diabetes so I wasn't crazy about it. The company I went with absolutely loved the different croissants available and coffee. Definitely worth a visit!

The white cheddar bacon croissant is next level. If you want a properly prepared espresso drink this is your place. Attentive and friendly staff make this spot your go for breakfast or lunch. Highly recommended!

The baked goods are all good, but after dropping $70 (this place is expensive) and having my order wrong, I brought it up to the workers, they attempted to fix it and still forgot spreads. Service was ok since one worker seemed frustrated/upset at 7:30 in the morning and the other didn't know where things were. For these prices, there shouldn't be any hiccups.
As far as the food, we all think that the savory goods were better than the sweet. The bialy and bagels (with herbed cream cheese!) were delicious. The kalamata focaccia is pretty darn good. For the sweets, the pan au chocolate was probably the best, followed by the chocolate chip cookie dough croissant. The muffins were kinda dry and the normal croissants are alright, but the biscuits were good, as was the black raspberry jam.
We will return to try the lunch sandwiches, but I don't think there are many baked goods that scream "gotta come back."
Scott Morse
Wonderful food and excellent service. Will definitely be back to work our way through the menu!
Kimberly
Great breakfast option for a weekend morning if you want to avoid long lines at sit down restaurants but still want savory food that’s filling and not just a cookie.
We got a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and a curried sweet potato turnover for about $5 or $6 each. Turnover was good and flavorful, I would recommend to ask for it to be warmed up otherwise is room temperature.
Coffee is also good. They have a handful of tables out on the sidewalk and a couple inside the cafe.

Just go! My daughter frequents butchertown bakery when she is in town. I went this morning for the very first time. Unfortunately for me I did not realize the grocer was closed and went to the wrong location first and had to circle around and go back to the bakery. I am not a patient person and I live in a rural area so just doing that was more than I care to deal with and on top of the brain and people who park in front of the bakery and take up two parking spots just really make me angry, but alas I persevered and I am so glad I did. I enjoy baking and it is rarely that I get a baked item that really I like. Baking from scratch can be very very expensive especially if you want to use the best of the best ingredients. But if I'm going to take the time to bake I'm going to get the best. And as far as I'm concerned this place does that. The gentleman that took my order was so pleasant, he helped me figure out what I wanted to get for me and my husband. I ended up getting the butcher block sandwich for my husband which was excellent! For me I got biscuits and gravy which was very very good. I also got a raspberry filled matcha which seemed to me like a muffin and a croissant blended it was absolutely excellent! The filling inside was great, it was wonderful! Then I got a cherry vanilla hand pie. This was absolutely the bomb! The dark cherries inside were delicious, just delicious, whereas this sweet vanilla icing was for me, not too much, and I am so glad because a lot of times I think desserts in our country are way way too sweet. This to me was enough but not too much. Plus while I was there I bought my husband two large bottles of bourbon to bring home to him for keeping our animals since I was away :-) wow what can I say breakfast and bourbon #yay Now just get in your car and go, as far as I'm concerned you will not regret it!!

Always Good Food. Try the Apple Butter Biscuits! They have a great selection of wine that is not in every store. Did I say try the Biscuits? I was born and raised in the deep south where Biscuits are king. This place does it right!
Robert Warren
This restaurant was great. The food is amazing and the service was great. The Pop's Waffle with bacon and eggs were so good. My son in law said his Chicken and waffles was the best he's ever had! We will definitely go back if we visit Louisville again.
Elden Ford
First time trying this new bakery.
For first impressions, my wife and I were very impressed.
One thing, get here early if you would like a place to sit. There are about 7 bar seats, then about 6 or 8 more at a table.
We got an iced vanilla coffee, and we were satisfied. We will be going back to try some of the bakery items, we just wanted a coffee during this visit.
Within walking distance of downtown. Will definitely be going back.
Antonio Lopes
My friends and I wanted to try something new for Sunday brunch. We were not disappointed. The service was impeccable, the food and drinks were amazing, and the restaurant exceeded our every expectation. I highly recommend the pineapple upside muffin and the smoked salmon platter.
Michael Kahn
The menu here will make it so hard to choose what you want to eat. Versatile ingredients play well off each other with an assortment of well layered flavors. This is the place to eat at for high quality local cuisine made with a whole lot of passion.
Allen Whisler
Amazing food, seems to all be made fresh on site! The restuarant has a great old timey feel. Service wasnt bad but they only had one bar tender working brunch and she was not that responsive to the patrons at the bar. She was too busy making drinks for the rest of the restaurant. They do have an amazing whiskey selection though their list is not update as I asked for one that they no longer had
Chris Runde
Everything about this place was excellent. The food was fresh, cooked to perfection and all of the sauces complemented the food very well. Drinks were excellent. Fries were a little cold. No gripes other than that! Definitely check this place out.
Christy Howard
The food was really good. I perfer my stuff salty needed to ask for salt. Good selection. Great customer service.
Denise Ackermann
Best coffee of my life. Quality food. Pays attention to details. Felt very pampered. Love how organic & local a lot of it was. Great atmosphere. Special of the day was awesome.
Tanya Lawrence
Excellent food and cocktails. Comfortable seating. Service was amazing for a busy evening to boot, and the desserts were a must-order. Would return again and again.
Evan Rich
This is one of my favorite places in Louisville, hands down the best bakery. I prefer their coffee to all the coffee shops surrounding them. Their lemon cream cheese danish is easily the best danish I have ever had in my life. And the staff is always super friendly!
Brandon
Great atmosphere and service. The chicken and waffles were the star of the meal. The burger was decent but the fries were the best part. It was a little bit pricey, but the quality showed.
Maria Metry
Absolutely the best meal I have had in a long time! Everything was perfect!!
Andrew DeGruccio
Very nice. Great place. Cool vibe. Great cocktails. Better food. Loved it.
Brandi Beech
Food and service was amazing! Cozy environment with a delicious menu!
Kiko
Best vegetarian friendly sausage and biscuit sandwich and chai I have ever had. The location is so cute and so are the baked goods. I love coming here!
Jordan Gary
Great neighborhood place with a nice mix of bakery, breakfast spot & coffee shop. Yummy speciality and seasonal drinks compliment a strong offering for breakfast that kids and sophisticated palates alike can enjoy.
Andrew Schneider
Amazing spot with incredible service from Amber and unique ambiance. Food was top notch, as well!
Rolf
Nice little spot. Good coffee. Good breakfast. Biscuits and gravy was plentiful and tasty. My wife liked her breakfast biscuit also.
Renzo Urzola
Great customer service and amazing breakfast. Must try if you're in town.
Martin Koepke
Excellent food, the best. Don’t believe me? Better try it for yourself. Bring a friend or two. Still don’t believe it’s the best, ask the friends you brought with you. :)
Josh Y
Fancy place and on the expensive side - not a grocery (hehe). $25 for chicken and waffles and $15 for classic burger and $5 for two eggs as examples. Burger was decent. Service was fine. I'm just not the pricey-establishment-kind-of-person.
John Cary
So delicious! Had the smoked pork belly appetizer... don't miss it! The bouillabaisse was equally delicious. Great service too. Don't miss this place.
J Hytken
Excellent high quality food, exceptionally tasty and outstanding service are just a few of the reasons to visit. You might be floored by the prices though! See the attached menu. The cauliflower and brussel sprouts were outstanding. Touted as serving more than one person, possibly two as they were served family-style, but both my wife and I found that each one was enough of a portion for only one individual. The hamburger had an excellent flavor and fries were very tasty but for $18 I expected them to be less stingy with the fries. The pasta was superb! They have an excellent selection of alcoholic beverages, and especially their wines. One thing I noticed though is the glass of wine that one at our table had received could not have had more than 3 oz maximum and she was quite Disappointed. See the picture. As long as you know going in that you will put a small dent in your pocketbook you can expect an enjoyable dining experience.

Gorgeous coffee shop 😍 I felt like I was I europe …

Food & Coffee: 5
Service: 2
Overall: 3.5
When we were visiting downtown Louisville this weekend, we scoped out a handful of local spots to eat/drink/explore. This was one of the locations we selected for a nice breakfast outside as we walked around with the dog. We planned to go inside, order our food and coffee, and eat outside with our puppy (a four pound teacup pom). When we were in the bakery for 20 seconds, we were immediately yelled at for having the dog in my arms… not touching the floor or making a peep. No issues with the message (even though there is no signage) but the delivery was extremely rude and ruined our breakfast. With all of that said, the coffee and breakfast sandwich was delicious, but the cashier staff left much to be desired. Please consider being less aggressive after we walk over a mile specifically to your neighborhood, to spend a chunk of change to support a local business. Needless to say- we did not tip. Here’s a cute picture of us eating our biscuit outside, politely and quietly with our puppy, Conrad. (@conradthepompom)

Such a sweet little cafe! Food and atmosphere is on-point. Great place to work for the day. Do not recommend for meeting people as the space is limited.
Kathy Holland
I go often, usually every few days. Never been disappointed! So many favorites it's hard to choose.
Erika Oliver
Wow. Every dish I had here was simply amazing. I had heard the hype about Butchertown Grocery and my husband and I finally got around to trying it. The atmosphere is very nice, the waitress was down to earth and helpful, and the food was just unreal. We had one of the special vegetable dishes as an appetizer: sweet potatoes, plantains, pickled carrots over a puree with cilantro. I had the gnocchi and my husband had the BBQ shrimp. If you go here you MUST get the gnocchi, especially if it's your first visit. Truly delicious. We topped it all off with banana bread pudding. Can't wait to come back!
Matt Coddington
outSTANDING dishes! Service exceptional. There were three of us in our party. Wife had the caesar with shrimp. Loved it. Mother-in-Law had kale & beet salad. It was great. I had the fried chicken sandwich. WOW. We'll be back for sure!

This was an amazing experience. Did the five-course fixed menu with bourbon pairing to take the guesswork out of what to eat and drink since most reviews say everything is amazing, and everything was amazing. The server did a fantastic job describing all the dishes and the bourbons and how they pair together. Everything was delivered timely and removed/replaced quickly (used plates and utensils). The five-course was a lot of food but worth it and it was no problem to package leftovers. One of the main highlights was when GM Lucas came to the table and introduced himself. I had emailed back and forth with him about the fixed menu options and I did not expect him to come say hi or do more than a, "How is your meal" kind of thing. It was a very nice touch to get such personal service and I would absolutely return, especially for the seven-course fixed menu with bourbon pairing, and even for a quick cocktail and appetizer. This place is an absolute must for anyone visiting Louisville.

Delicious Gluten free, dairy free, & other allergen accommodations. The service, knowledge, quality, & care was top notch!
Walter Findlay
A small town feel in the big city of Louisville. Everyone's so friendly. The coffee to the pastries top shelf! If you're in town , definitely must stop in.
Ryan Speight
Dear Lort! That food is good. Scrambled eggs, 3 slices of bacon thicker than a Dickens novel, hash browns that have some kind of European cheese in it, and apple butter! Good luck getting a reservation though. Went during lunch, which wasn’t bad getting a table for 7, but trying to get a table for 2 in the evening was impossible.
Christine Albro
Went to BG for lunch today with a business associate and WOW, they hit it out of the park. Here's what's new: updated menu, lower prices and fantastic service - thanks to Lisa, who was wonderful.
The menu was titled Holiday Brunch 2018. My associate ordered the butcher block sandwich (reviewed above) and I had pop's waffle and coffee. I have to say it was absolutely the best waffle I've ever eaten. Served with two fried eggs, cooked as you please, bacon and a small container of maple syrup on the side. I requested that the egg yolks be nice and runny but the whites had to be cooked, which sometimes is challenging. The eggs were indeed a bit overcooked but not terribly so and I responded that it was OK when Lisa noticed it. Well, she made it right! Within minutes she reappeared with two perfectly cooked sunny side up eggs. Now that's service (and yes, with a smile). The French press coffee was excellent. Not a trace of bitterness but still plenty strong. Presentation matters here. The coffee service was exceptional. And to top it off, all this for about $40 before tip. I am now an enthusiastic promoter of this fine establishment. ***** Yes, 5 stars.

This place offers a great atmosphere, and even better food! The service could be slightly better (more welcoming and talkative staff), however the food is unforgettable!
I would recommend the chicken and waffles! So good!
Ellen Warner
We would probably not have found this awesome bar on our own, but after discovering that our intended destination was closed for the day, a friendly local suggested this great spot for a drink. We had amazing cocktails and the most perfect roasted olives appetizer at the bar, chatting up the barkeeps for local foodie tips. A memorable way to start an evening in Louisville!
Brass Tacks
What a wonderful breakfast experience! A must for anyone looking for the freshest ingredients on their plate in a quaint, unpretentious space. A+++

Have you ever seen food shows on tv where the people eating the food are making ridiculous sounds, and giving over the top praise? Impossible right? This place makes it possible for everyone. Butchertown Grocery is worth every penny and the. Some. Everything, from the bread to the sauces is made in house. Food perfection.
Vlad Voloshin
One of the best restaurants I tried in Louisville..gnocchi was great..fettuccini was pretty good as well.
Lynsey Jordan
The food here is wonderful. I've had their breakfast biscuit sandwiches (great), their pear and walnut salad (lovely), and we decided to grab their take-and-bake Chicken Pot Pie as well to make dinner easy. It was DIVINE, easily the best pot pie I have ever had. Their apple hand pies were tasty as well. It's great to have this spot within walking distance!!
Elisio Sapata
Great cocktails, great oysters, great menu.
We had Cavatelli (which is served with Lobster and Shrimp) and a Steak Frites (hangar steak) , both very good. On occasion they do serve their on version of Chicken and Waffles (Roasted Chicken), which is delicious. We have had many other menu items and all have been very good. The service is always very good; friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous.
Menu changes seasonally.
Great place to dine with friends. It can get loud. Not so great for kids.
Back two weeks later for more Oysters and a ‘suffering bastard’ (gin based featured cocktail, the ‘paper airplane’ is a good choice as well)
Back again, oysters always outstanding (awesome horse radish), Tuna Tartare a must. Consider the Atlantic Salmon also very good.
If you are planning in advance, make a reservation (for a Saturday) when “Aces are in place”, you won’t be disappointed.
Deserts well if you see anything you like, order it. If you can’t decide beignets are always good especially with a port!

You ever have a moment that changes the whole trajectory of your day? I did here! I went in only to grab a baguette for our dinner later. Our first night on a big road trip and we had driven through the night and were just beginning to think about coffee and breakfast. I didn't even realize I was going in a coffee shop as I had looked up the grocery initially. I ended up getting a baguette and a lemon bar and...chatting with the friendly cashier who is originally from HI where my daughter is currently in school. I just thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her and she was so kind and generous to me. The food I ended up eating which included a biscuit breakfast sandwich were over the top delicious. I felt bad we were headed on to our next destination and I couldn't return to say thanks and buy more. But I'll at least give my vote that this is definitely a place worth patronizing. My husband and I were both put in such a good mood as we set off for the day it kept us both in a good mood the entire time! And also, once again, made me realize how much I simply like the state of KY! Aloha!
Johnny B Williams
The host was very professional and helpful at getting us a table at brunch despite not having reservations. The eggs Benedict were overcooked but still delicious. The bloody Mary was very good but the huge marrow bone was a bit much.
Ross Ricupero
Great service, comfortable space, delicious food. Very well worth the trip and price.
Kreighton Bieger
Worth a stop!
Fantastic baked goods, unique and tasty biscuit egg sandwiches and very good espresso drinks. I also tried a plain croissant and it was very good.
Staff was friendly as we sat for more than an hour, and the ambiance is cozy and fun.

This place was our first place we had a meal in Louisville, so it definitely set the bar high. I called ahead and got an early reservation and was glad that I did because it started getting pretty busy pretty early. The decor and ambience was great, loved the exposed brick and the projected light pattern on the brick wall. Our waitress was very sweet and personable. We started off with salads. I picked the shaved brussel sprout salad. Honestly, I was not a fan of this salad. The salad lacked flavor except for the occasional cherry or apple. I think that if the brussel spouts would have been charred, grilled, or broiled that would have been good. The other salad we tried was the pecan and pear salad. This salad was actually great. It came with a big ball of jalapeño bleu cheese ice cream in the middle- YES I SAID ICE CREAM. THIS... this I SAID, was genius. I have never in my life had my husband fight me for salad. He fights me for everything else, but not salad. Well, not today people. We were playing musical forks fighting for the last bite. This salad is magical. For the dinner I ordered the Ravioli stuffed with goat cheese served with spicy carrot, cauliflower, pine nuts and parsley. This dish was to die for. I LOVE goat cheese so I knew I was going to love this dish, but the pine nuts and the spicy carrots were a nice touch. My husband ordered the Lola's favorite Southern Burger with pimento cheese, brussel sprout slaw, bacon jam, and fries. The pimento cheese and the bacon jam were a party in your mouth together! This burger was amazing. The fries were also so great because they are fried in cotton seed oil and it allows you to taste more of the potato. My husband actually thinks this counts as eating a vegetable because of that fact (he will kill me for writing that lol). When we went to pay our tab I loved that they served it in these little paper slips with vintage photos. Then she gave us a fun treat to take with us. She told us that the brownies were made with a local chocolate that they buy from the local market and they were gluten free. I couldn't wait to try them ( I was just so full up to my eyeballs). About 30 minutes later I went to eat my brownie (it was wrapped in wax paper and then placed in a paper bag) and it was all melty and kinda not edible, unless I wanted to scrape the wax paper with my teeth and tongue.....truth me I thought about it for a second and my husband snatched it away from me before I could embarrass myself. This was a bummer, but I can see how it would happen because I suspect these brownies have no flour in them. Overall, this place is superb and a must try! Oh and even though it has nothing to do with the business you get to see a lovely "LOVE" mural when entering and exiting the restaurant. BTW they have an excellent selection of wines and alcohol. I had a glass myself.

Visited for the first time on a cold Saturday morning, on our way to Muth's Candies. Counter staff was friendly. A friend recommended the Cruffin, which was a large, delicious, raspberry and pistachio filled delight (not pictured). We also got the egg, cheese and bacon sandwich which was large enough to share. The cappuccinos were also very nice.
Molly Smith
The egg biscuit sandwich truly saved my life. They’re happy to make it vegetarian if asked. I was having one of those mornings where I also needed a blackberry hand-pie and it was one of the best pastries I’ve eaten in recent memory.
Brian Dong
Subtle location and menu but if you follow their instagram, you know they produce some amazing croissants and pastries. They also have my personal favorite chocolate chip cookie in the city but make sure you get it fresh! Limited lunch menu that is good for quick bite but is a little pricey. Definitely worth checking out for a quick snack!
Michael Blair
We ate upstairs at Lola. Great food and really good drinks. The service was great as well! A really nice dinner experience! The fettuccine was wonderful!
Andrew Weishaar
This was my first time here and my department had a brunch here as our company outing. The food was delicious!
April Cummins
Hip, upscale atmosphere. Delicious food and drinks.
Jeffry Carper
Great place. Unique food, great service. Definitely a gem that you need to discover.
William Alsup
Great food and unique signature cocktails. I tried the Angel's Envy Spritz and it was fantastic.
Ben Mckeeman
Amazing! Great brunch spot. Get the hashbrowns and the Benedict.
Justin Kimbler
I can't speak highly enough of our experience here. My wife and I both got the tasting menu. I had the bourbon pairing, my wife did not. Our server was top notch and explained everything to us, including how the chef came to create several items. The bourbon sommelier came by a couple times during the meal and then finally at the end to ask for feedback on the menu and the pairing. The team was quick to refill waters and switch out silverware for each course. If you have a chance to do the tasting, I would highly suggest it. They change out the menu with some frequency, so we will be back on a future visit to Louisville.
Alexis Wallace
Amazing cocktails and even better food! Shrimp and grits is a must have and the Army Navy cocktail was the best ever!
Brian Henson
I feel like I'm in a NYC cafe.
From the food and drinks to the friendly staff, it's just lovely here.
James Stafford
The English muffin bacon egg sammy is delsih, Butterbeer latte.. on point, choco danish...legit. Decor has a cool vibe. Staff was friendly, will go back 100%
Kyle Burgess
As a young man born and raised in the foothills of Northeast Alabama, I like to consider myself a biscuit connoisseur. In my humblest opinion, Butchertown Grocery Bakery has the best biscuits in Louisville. It's one of the few times a biscuit from a restaurant has made me think of my beloved Granny and Nannie, waking up at the crack of dawn to make a pan of biscuits, fry some sausage patties, and use the grease to make a cast iron skillet full of gravy. I'm now a believer and will spread the gospel of the Butchertown Grocery Bakery Biscuits throughout Kentuckiana!
Donnett Boes
Best flavors ever!!!! My husband and I stopped by for first visit and selected 3 to go items to share. Boy were we surprised and thrilled! The blueberry scone w lemon curd was exquisitely prepared, we had our bacon croissant lightly heated & it melted in our mouths with each bite, and the cheese danish was so many steps above any we have ever had. We simply could not decide which of the 3 were best, because they were all impeccable. We will be back and often.... maybe tomorrow 😁
Naeim Torkian
Visited the store in a Sunday afternoon, good serrvis and quality pastry for end of the shift.
Amy G
Perfect place to stop for lunch!! Half way from Chicago and Chattanooga. Breakfast and lunch sandwich was excellent!!
Lauren Bailey
Sat at the bar and ordered a small plate and a drink. The pork belly dish changed seasonally and mine was a curry base and was AMAZING. My drink was a paper plane-which had excellent bourbon and went down real easy. Bartender was very nice and the service was quick.
Andrea Hamblen
Dining at Butchertown Grocery is always a delight. I got lucky when I visited because they were serving their mouthwatering French onion soup. It was heaven! And their beignets!!! Better than ANY beignet you can get in NOLA. That’s not an exaggeration! Thanks for always being friendly and delicious!
Jeff Griffith
Woah those chicken and waffles are good and 100 score on their report card is unbelieveable.
Winnie
Delicious food. One of my favorite restaurants in Louisville.
They make their pastas in house. They add and remove menu items occasionally so you can try new things. The wait staff know the menu and describe the food well.
My favorites so far are the cauliflower, tuna taretare, cavatelli pasta, bread pudding, and beignets.
Charlie Lembach
Wife and I agree, this place is just okay. We were seated in a far back table despite having a reservation and there were plenty of open two toppers. We both ordered pasta dishes that took over 30 minutes to come out. Service was uninspired. I regret coding this place for our first dinner in Louisville.
Marrcus Beattie
Got a chance to stop in while waiting for my meat load. Coffee is well above average hot and fresh. But the food, is fantastic I personally had the cheese croissant, and the bourbon salted caramel cupcske. Both were simply fantastic. Nice staff and outdoor seating makes for a nice stop.
David Crow
Nice atmosphere and some good looking baked goods, but the espresso is watery and prices are high. Not a strong contender across the street from Quills (though I'm always happy to see new options).
Laurencio Ronquillo
Place is very cool. We has brunch and it was excellent. Plate that you see is Huevos Rancheros con Chorizo. Flavorful and delicious!!!
I have to come back and try their other dishes.
Easy street parking. Excellent service, friendly professional. We sat at the bar.
Menu is not very long, but it has something for every taste.
Portions are not huge. So depending on appetite that could increase your per person price. Prices are ok. It is a higher end place IMHO.
With that said, it has an excellent ambiance that is higher end as well. Great place.
Raymond Clamens
Sad I couldn't eat more....gnocchi was delicious, you can have it as an entree unless you're sharing (but you won't want to share) or you're really hungry. The seafood cavatelli is also yummy but because I had the gnocchi first it was still on my mind. Definitely going back to try some more dishes!!!😋😋😋 …

Guess the coffee scene in Louisville is a scene, because folks need to wait 20+ mins for a simple Americano on a Sunday morning. Was it worth it...? Honestly, coffee was fine. Not worth the wait. The blueberry scone made up for the overall caffeine experience. Simple solution folks....get one more person on the espresso machine.
Katie Riggs
Woah! This place had it all!! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and wonderful food! Price is a little steep but the quality is absolutely worth it! I would highly recommend!!
Jami G.
Decadent pastries. My husband and I traveled a LONG ways to check this place out and we were not disappointed. The chocolate cookie croissant and bourbon sugar cookie were absolute perfection! Everything is homemade and the flavors are rich and perfectly balanced in everything. The staff was incredibly friendly, reflecting great southern hospitality by bringing us out a succulent FRESHLY baked chocolate cupcake with bourbon buttercream frosting. Highly recommend and we will absolutely be returning the next time this Mitten State couple cycles through bourbon country.
Len Hayes

The BEST hot ham and cheese sandwich I have ever eaten... Absolutely delicious

Highly recommend! This space is comfortable but sophisticated with amazing pastries and lovely service.
Scott
Food is great, as is service and atmosphere. The only thing I didn't like was the high cost of alcohol. Food cost is reasonable and delicious. All of the cocktails are around $20, very high priced for Louisville. Steer clear of the Butchertown Bourbon Flight. All of the bourbons are picks from Butchertown Grocery, but I found them to be too spicy and heavy on the rye. Plus they only give you small 1/2 oz pours each. I would visit again, but just to get dinner. Lastly, be sure to make a reservation as they fill up quickly!
Kristi Walker
Best gravy every on the biscuits! Coffee was spot on!
Larry Jackson
The service was excellent and the food & drinks were amazing. My wife and I will definitely be going back with friends next time. Great atmosphere and environment.
Bobby Oliveri
Amazing food and coffee. Wonderfully accommodating and friendly. Espresso was dialed in and the coffee was delicious. The food was great and larger portioned. We loved it here.
Thadd F.
Incredible place! Best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Incredible! And terrific coffees! A must stop for us whenever we're in Louisville!
Kyle Henderson
Always a fun experience. Chef is making some incredible things and as usual the cocktails are on point!
For this trip we went the night before Oaks, as we had some guests in town. Certainly no one was disappointed leaving very full and happy. The caviar with pork rinds was very unusual but excellent! Great meals, and then I think the only picture I took was of this wonderful dessert.
Becky Backert
One of the most exquisite meals I've ever had. The food was perfection, so was the service. Can't wait to return. Excellent in every way
Sade James
This place has some amazing food! The service is great too! I had it for the first time earlier this week and now I’m hooked. Thanks y’all
steve hoak
Amazing establishment. Food was delicious, great bar program! Got the opportunity to speak with the Chef and was highly impressed. Can't wait to go back.
Rajdeep Junnarkar
Great food & excellent service! Oysters were phenomenal!
Joe Steiger (Tiger)
Very good spot, a high end hipster spot with enough ambiance to satisfy an old man like me
Mike W
Probably my favorite breakfast spot in the area. Croissants are amazing. Staff was nice. Coffee was above par.
Georg Schlotter
Great dinner, great drinks
Bill Cooper
This was the greatest experience in a long time and I'd go again today if I could find room. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. Try the blt you won't regret it. Thanks Todd and Val.
Reagan Porterr
This place is SO GOOOOD. I ordered my food to go and didn't get to it until like an hour after it was made and it was still AMAZING. Idk why I haven't tried this place sooner! Go eat here right now!
Caitlin Pike
I live down the street and always felt between P&TY, quills and butchetown the lattes were the best here. Not that they’re outstanding but the best out of three. The cookies are outstanding and that’s the three stars. Maybe almost 4 for the aesthetic and the fact they’ve continued to follow covid rules. But in Nulu where EVERYTHING is dog friendly they won’t let you bring your pups in to order a cup of coffee. Seriously? There was no one in the store. In was before 8am. I’ve also done in multiple times before but today it was a problem? Post a sign at least. I’m now annoyed without coffee so I’ll just never go back. There’s a place half a block down where the owner is much friendlier and is working to grow his business.
Darren Unrein
Food and staff were excellent. As a out of towner, this was a must go. Was not disappointed. Even though one of our party ordered something not on the drink menu. They were still accommodating.
Amy DiCarlo
We had plans on our vacation to brunch at The Grocery, but we just wanted a few pastries so we decided to check out their bakery instead. The decor is so pretty, it is lined with windows, so very well lit. We were greeted by a very friendly employee. She went over the specials and how to order. She brought the drinks and pastries right to our table. I had the white cheddar and bacon croissant. It was so buttery and loved that the pastry dough was wrapped around the bacon. We also had a sweet croissant that was filled. For beverages they serve Elixr which is a local kombucha company, the gonzoberry is the bomb!!
Loved this place and would come back next time we are in the area.
Jacob Saylor
A fantastic bakery with more to offer. After tasting both a lunch and breakfast item, can easily tell they've mastered both. Staff was friendly and helpful, and quick to get our hot beverages out while we were waiting for the food. While food is on the pricey side, you can taste the quality.
Nancy Alvey
Took my husband for birthday dinner and we both were impressed. The food was great as well as the service. It is worth the money and we will go back.
Kimberly Porter
Fantastic food, wait staff was incredibly helpful and prompt. All the food was cooked perfectly. Would recommend to anyone looking for a very nice, expensive meal.
shibu lekshman
Had dinner here. The food is very tasty and the restaurant has great atmosphere. Try out the upstairs for an intimate feel.....
Lauren W
This place is super tiny and not great for large groups but the pastries and sandwiches are delicious. The croissants are perfectly flakey and buttery, the danish was tasty and the muffuletta although expensive is Amazing and can super filling, I definitely recommend sharing.
Marc Levy
Pastries and bread are freshly baked and wonderful. I had a turkey sandwich that was enormous. My friends enjoyed the soup and salad. Nice little meeting place over some coffee or bourbon or beer and a pastry.
Taj
Staff were incredibly accommodating and the food was very yummy!
Ce Doh
The food here is absolutely amazing and the staff is so friendly. Josh and Greg were very knowledgeable at the bar. Everything that we ate here exceeded our expectations.
Brittany Howard
Great atmosphere and drinks but expect to pay for it.
Adam Hall
Great food ... really well prepared. Very generous portions. Highly recommend.
Ainsley Graff
Great food and great service! We visited the bar upstairs before our reservation and had some very unique cocktails. The host checked us into our reservation and came and found us when it was time to go downstairs for dinner so we didn't have to worry about it - loved that! We splurged and got appetizers, a plate to share, two entrees and dessert. Totally worth every penny!
Brittany Albers
The food was so amazing! Yummy! Service was awesome. Glad we finally made it in for dinner. We will be back!
Gladys Carpenter
Absolutely must try. The service was wonderful. Our server was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. Our water glasses never got empty! The food is delicious and somewhat different than your normal restaurant. We each had something different and all 3 loved it. The brunch menu isn't huge but there is something for everyone. The portion sizes are not huge but very filling. It is a small place so I would recommend reservations. We will definitely be back.
Hopey Jackson
Great food and service. I was visiting from Nashville and I will definitely eat here again. They have an excellent bar also!
Andrew Stronczer
Stumbled upon this gem, would have love to posted more pictures but the bourbon says it all. Enjoyed the fettuccine with a side and a Manhattan.
Melissa “Missy” Ashton-Ruoff
Great food. We went for a friends birthday and they handwrote a card for him, so sweet!! They also took great care of us. Definitely would go back.
Brent Beeson
The food and service was amazing. Ambience was perfect for the evening. Prices were nice considering the quality of food. We will definitely be returning here.
Rocky Plotts
Beautiful restaurant. We didn't make it to the bar upstairs. The food is good, though pricey. Great date night spot.
Peter Meece
Wonderful food and environment. It is a classy place but a suit would be a little too much. The food is well worth any wait you might have sometimes the price is a little more than expected. I definitely had the best steak I have ever had here I would suggest it for sure. I also love how this place always sends you off with a wonderful little brownie.
Lee Cochran
Simply THE BEST! Love sitting at the bar - light super + a heavy cocktail! Good food, great service & AAA ambience 💃💃💃 …
Jack Johnson
Stopped in for a treat and left with many. Many great options and settled upon a chocolate chip cookie, pain de chocolate and a cupcake. Each was better than then next. The coffee was also pleasantly delicious. Excited to try more of what they have to offer.
Charles Barr
Great unique food. Not cheap, but worth the money. Good service and atmosphere along with great food.
Paula Askew
I can't say enough about this place. Amazing food. Excellent place to get a cocktail or just sip on a Vietnamese coffee. The staff is so friendly and make you feel very welcomed. Call ahead and make reservations this place gets busy. Personally I recommend the chicken and waffles!
Nic Monette
Absolutely incredible, every drink and piece of food was delicious and well thought out. Can't recommend enough.
Mister Bean
Place is beautiful (chairs are REALLY uncomfortable though) but the menu is really silly (pretentious)and stupidly expensive. $15.00+ for a sandwich? Been there twice, but won’t go back. Much better places to eat in Louisville for much less. Too bad.
Will Miller
The food is fantastic! The service is top notch! Like the outside eating tables
Ihor Shevchenko
It is one of my favorite restaurants! Beautiful historic building. It takes me back to a different time. Great food! I always have the brown butter pasta. The best! Service is great. I always look forward to eating here and soaking up the ambiance.
Michael Sargent
Superb dining.
Travis Fodor
We really enjoyed our meal here. Excellent service, highly recommend the steak Frites and Old Fashioned. The cookie was our favorite thing on the menu. We loved the special appetizer and melon salad. Highly recommend!
Kevin Zencka
The muffaletta tart was such a surprise, so delicious and different. The counter service was friendly and helpful. My only problem is that I need to try more now, and that is my favorite problem to have!
Blakely Kennedy
Great food, it's high on price but it does shows in the food why. Waiter was on top of everything and will go back.
Roger Leek
Our group had a great time at Butchertown Grocery. We sat at the bar and sampled some amazing whiskies, some of which had to be brought up from the basement. We tried Gnocchi, Tuna Tartare and Pork Belly appetizers, and they were devoured with gusto and not a speck was left on the plate. We followed that with Salmon, Lamb Rack, a Burger and a Prime Ribeye. Everything was excellent! We will be back!
Ben Gardner
I've been hearing about this place and wanting to try it out for awhile. It definitely lived up to the hype! They have some very unique and good cocktails, but don't overdo it, because the food was phenomenal! My wife and I both had the bouillabaisse, and it was delicious. I will definitely go back just to get that! Ensure you call ahead for reservations.
Ben Schneider
Food was good but a bit overpriced. The only reason I'm not going with 5 stars is that when you enter and exit the restaurant you smell a big waft of pig excrement.
Kaitlyn Green
The food was very good and the atmosphere was lovely, but it was a lot pricier than I expected.
Clayton
I'm from out of town and had this place recommended by a local. I'd say that this is the one place you should eat while you are in Louisville. Far and away the best food that we had all week. We went with a group of 12, and tried almost everything on the menu. Sadly we missed the chef at the end of the evening but everything that we ate was fantastic!
Chad Mueller
A little pricier than I expected going in but the food and atmosphere made up for it. Our waitress really knew the menu and was very informative.
Jared White
Incredibly delicious food! Servers were friendly but not too friendly, which I think is good. Coffee was good but was overpriced ($9 per for one person), but everything else was tasty enough to justify the higher prices. Bathroom was clean but they had 1 ply toilet paper.
Cindy Q.
Ordered the Butchertown Eggs Benedict with pork belly and truffle Béarnaise. The pork belly was seared with a good crust, but I wish the Béarnaise had more truffle flavour.
Terry Wilson
Limited offerings. We visited for lunch but it was just OK. Very limited seating
Lucy Aldridge
Amazing salmon bialy - hands down one of the best things I’ve had in Louisville so far! Not to mention amazing mango and yuzu tart. Can’t wait to come back!
Mark Koeppen
Service was great food was a little too "foodie" for me but did have great flavor.
Ali Bay
The food was amazing but I loved the atmosphere. The art on the walls held my attention the whole time I was there.
April Schweinhart
Don't get me wrong, the food is amazing! The chicken and waffles is bursting with flavor. The drinks are great too. I've just had some lack luster service the fees times I've been. Its as if the servers think they are too good for me.
Doug Burkhart
Top notch. The menu the employees everybody was fantastic. Excellent food.
Robert Baumgardner
We've always had great service here and the bartenders are superb. Head upstairs after eating for a drink and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.
Melissa M Goodill
What a neat place! Drinks were wonderful. You have to try the bloody Mary! Choices are so different for meals. Loved the food.
Sara Tipton
Absolutely amazing. Pricey but worth it. The gnocchi is phenomenal. Best I’ve ever had. The drinks are aromatic and flavorful. Even the oysters were excellent! Entrees were delicious, creative and filling. Service was incredible. Would recommend to any foodie or critic. 10/10
Claire Stivrins
Liked the place.. on the expensive side.. the lamb my daughter ordered was a smidge undercooked.. not quite add red deer add I would hope..I enjoyed the muscles very much.. no complaints.. but price point could be better to encourage better repeat trade.
Knowledgable servers.. obviously well trained on the menu.. had all the answers to my varied questions.
Matthew Rogg
Our lunch was OUTSTANDING. Great food and excellent service, but this is the norm at this restaurant. Superb bourbon list!
alesia stickler
This is such a cool atmosphere and the food is amazing. The service had alwase been top notch as well.
Larry Childs
Purchased 2 breakfast biscuit sammichs on toasted app, so easy and we’re done 10 mins early and we’re delicious! Soft dense biscuits and the sausage was awesome and the aioli sets it off!
Rachel Oliver
Cozy ambiance, fantastic servers that show up right when you need to, and wonderful food. The chicken was juicy and moist, the pasta twirly, the wine smooth, and the desserts excellent. I had a great time here and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area
Joe Mama
Look at the pictures. This place is fine as hell. Have great breakfast foods, pretty pricey for college kid like me, but hey, it's a fancy place. Make a reservation if planning dinner, pretty small place. Other than that, 5 stars baby
Mark Wilson
Great food! and premises... See servers very professional.. Worth a visit!
Jeanne Molden
Awesome place. Great food, Great Service, Nice atmosphere. Will return.
Aaron Rowan
Great small restaurant. Local sourced food and fresh baked goods. Great brunch.
Rebecca DeBra
Amazing food.. we Tell upstairs at Lola..chill atmosphere and great service!
nope nope
You have to stop by. Just. Phenomenal. Little pricy, but worth every. Penny. Seriously the variety of food and coffee is just a pleasure and service is always quick, efficient, and never lacks in quality. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.
Rory Keylon
We went in looking for snacks and found a dazzling array of options to choose from so we got too much. The fresh cheese was delicious and the manager was very helpful with our questions. If this store was in the town I live in, I would visit often.
Anthony Maiorana
I was here for Brunch and it got really full really fast. The food was excellent and I would recommend getting a reservation. We arrived right when they opened and they thought it might be difficult to seat us.
The coffee was alright. I wish they had an espresso machine or were able to make a better cup of coffee, but I guess no one is perfect.
Melissa Johnson
Great food, really cool atmosphere, and wonderful service!
Josie Anne
Wonderful experience. Absolutely delicious food, great cocktails and great service.
M. Weitz
Great Brunch!
Davy Wallace
The pork belly eggs Benedict is off the charts! And an army navy cocktail is superb!
Chris Niblock
Great service and atmosphere. Food was spot on. Large portions. Must be doing something right. Was packed at 11:30 for Sunday brunch.
Oluwatomisin Oredein
Everything - from the service, to the drinks, to the food - was amazing!!! I'm going again the next time I'm in town!
K Haan
I love every detail of this place. The location, the staff, the drinks, the food- AND you can make reservations!
Derek Henson
Food was amazing the the service was the best I had while in Louisville. The waiter was helpful and recommended delicious cocktails. Will be going back next time I'm in town. The fired chicken and waffles if big enough to split.
Nicole Fitzpatrick
Delicious food and wonderful service. Always amazing.
Aloush Foodie
Quality baked goods. Savory and sweet available. Highly recommend! Can get the fifth star if the prices were better. Bon appetit
Aaron Osborne
The food was very good and elegantly prepared. Would highly recommend
Robert McLeod
Most excellent food and amazing staff. Highly recommend this place.
Amanda H.
The service was fantastic but holy moly was it pricey! The food was a little weird, I hated my entree and didn't even finish it. The cocktails were ok but they all were heavy on the bitters and tasted like smoke. The atmosphere was very cool and unpretentious and great for a first date or anniversary. I just didn't like the food and I'm not even that picky.
Sergey V
First of all, just want to get this out of the way: worth every penny. Service was great; very attentive and friendly staff. Marshall took great care of us and had great recommendations. Get the gnocchi. It's phenomenal!
Tyrus Christiana
Pretty delicious food and great atmosphere in an unexpected part of town. Your date will be impressed.
uityutiytyu hgfsdfhdf
On top of this, service was spot on. We got to the restaurant early so we sat at the bar until they opened the Lola Room. Let me say that this room is absolutely adorable! It has its own bar, lounges along the room, a mini stage with a piano and some tables on the side. It's dim and intimate yet very comfortable.
Matthew Coleman
Wow! Pretty much sums it up. Excellent food, excellent staff, Great location. And there is a Jazz bar up top that is the best.
Jason Mann
Good menu items. Great atmosphere
Joshua McKee
This is by far one of the best places I've eaten in Louisville. The menu is small but well thought out. The drinks are fantastic, and the service is second to none.
Tamarichka R
Delicious food, wonder wait staff and nice atmosphere.
Pati Uzar
Amazing food, if you can go in early summer try the corn ravioli, a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
Centaur6 Centaur6

Maggie Poole
Highly recommend! Loved everything I tasted from appetizers to and including the dessert. Awesome place! The salmon is the best ever!
Robert Moellering
Tasty food! A little pricey but I'm old!
Corey Gibson (Kain)
Got a raspberry Danish, a blueberry scone (both a good portion size) and 2 coffees, and they were all delicious! I'll definitely be coming back.
Daniel Gallagher
Food was very good and service very attentive. Nice use of space; love the library seating.
Mackenzie Wills

Alka Maheshwari
Great service! Food was amazing as well. Our group ordered the chicken and waffles, gnocci, sandwiches, escargot. All were great! Split bill among 9 of us in 2 minutes with no mistakes.
Les Hamilton
Butchertown Grocery Bakery is outstanding!! Croissants sell out quick at only $3, It was great to stop by and say hi to Bobby Benjamin and congratulate him on another great eatery!
Trinity Dewitt
I am astounded by the experience I've had the pleasure of having at this lovely place.
With more than one vegan option.
Incredible dishes, perfectly seasoned booming with surprising and delightful combinations. Not over complicated like so many other places I've been to.
Competes with 5 star restaurants I've been to in Portland, OR.
THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHH.
R Robinson
She absolutely loved this place for brunch. Open table took care of us. French pressed coffee and avocado toast. My needs were secondary. Thank you all.
Lindsay Kokai
Great food and bar. One of my favorite spots in town.
Nathan Bowman
Nice, food was pretty great, but the experience wasn't the best. The tables were packed together, clearly so that they could cram as many paying customers in as they could. Staff was great, food was pretty special, but management/owners screwed up when they thought "yeah, let's put 25+ tables in a space that really would be better served with 15 or so."
Nick Peak
Pricey, but you get a quality product. Great bar, knowledgeable staff, sophisticated decor. Perfect for a weekend evening out. The brussels sprouts were tasty, and the black cod fish special was made by someone who knew what they were doing.
Jon G
Not an inexpensive place, however you do get a lot of amazing food for your money. Atmosphere is very chill, low light type of place. Probably best to make reservations if you plan on going because it's popular and small.
Egon Rinderer
Excellent food (had the fried chicken sandwich), prompt, courteous service. Will definitely return.
Andrew Rustad
Great location, creative selection of items on the menu, good service and amazing food. I would definitely give Butchertown Grocery a try.
Barbora Shneydman
I'm vegan so I was little sceptical about eating here, but to my surprise, I was able to have a delicious fine dining experience! Highly recommended.
CHEF TODD ALEXANDER CHEF TODD ALEXANDER
My first visit. I had my coffee my way: tall with a shot of espresso with room for cream. Chef Todd recommends. I'll be back.
CHEERS!!
Kendra Jenkins
This restaurant consistently does almost everything right. The atmosphere/décor is unique and cozy. The food menu and wine selections are superb! It's a bit on the pricy side but I think it's worth it. The waitstaff is excellent but the front desk could be friendlier (have experienced this a couple of times). Their upstairs bar/speakeasy (Lola) is a really great surprise and well done as well.
Barry Holland
Incredibly fine food for a fine price and perfect potent potables in a warm, trendy environment. Perfect service, although apparently the chef's unwilling to be very flexible.
Rodney J Hale
Very nice restaurant food is outstanding! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Marcel Plant
This place pretended to be better than it really was. We walked in at 11am, just opened, no one else there, and no one waiting. The lady actually asked if I had a reservation as if I really needed one at this time. The place looked nice and the waitress was good. They seated a couple of other people right next to us very close even though the place was pretty empty. The food had good presentation but it wasn’t anything special. I had the pop’s waffle and the molasses butter was way too sweet. Made me feel sick and my daughter felt that way as well. The coffee was way too strong. It seemed to be a wannabe place in an old neighborhood that was going through renovations.
Matthew Burns
This place has great food. If you want a superb dining experience in a quiet, yet fun atmosphere, this is the place to go. It also has one of the best bourbon-stocked bars i have seen in Louisville.
Gene G
We have been coming here since they opened. Fantastic food and drinks every time. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here tonight and truly appreciate the chefs attention to detail and flavor, Nic (beverage director) crafts wonderful cocktails that always impress. 💯look forward to our next visit …

Joei Baldwin
Everyone needs to get some baked good from here at least once they are fresh and delicious 😋 …
Julius Vinall
Good food with quality service. A great place to dine for Thanksgiving. :)
james dean
The service was mediocre bordering bad. The place is fairly clean and the food is good overall. The gravy had too much cardamom, the biscuit was to mushy, the burger was very good, the fries were good, the beignets were just something to fill your stomach with, no pleasure for the senses.
Ben Farber
The atmosphere, service, drinks, and food were all perfect.
Ann Marie Lewis
Great food...have had better drinks...overall great
Allan Sykes
Food was great. I enjoyed every bite of my lamb.

A great little gem! Have had several business meals here and never disappointed.

I loved the service, menu selection and atmosphere. Unfortunately I have a food allergy and that wasn't taken seriously. I know what happens when I eat dairy and I will be sick with hives for a couple of weeks.
Deborah Smithhisler
Food is delicious.
Staff is friendly & very helpful in navigating the menu
Drinks are strong and very well crafted.
Get lots of dishes & share them. They recommend this and they make it so simple to do with small plates and sharing spoons.
We had the gnocchi, beet & kale salad, fried eggplant and halibut. Superb!

Personally, I think this is the best reasonably priced restaurant in Louisville that I've been to. The staff had always been helpful and prompt and the food is excellent. We had the fried chicken and waffles, lamb, dry aged steak, burger, gnocchi appetizer and the salad with blue cheese ice cream. Every dish was phenomenal. Would recommend for a date or special event.

First time dining at the Butchertown Grocery. Comfortable atmosphere, but a bit noisy when the dining area was full. Food was very good as was the service. Our server was experienced and well versed on both the food and beverage menus.

Great food. Gnocchi sauce very good, rotisserie chicken was also good, cooked well but missing something in flavor department.
Ann Smith
Great food! felt underdressed, just came for a beniegt. Kind of fancy but they got us in without a reservation which was so nice for a Sunday morning. Got a free cinnamon roll with brunch. Had a Bloody Mary or "bloody butcher" overflowing with fresh herbs and a giant bone and marrow spoon. Amazing food Great service too!

Great breakfast spot in Nulu. The oatmeal cream pie was outrageously good
Kristin Stratman
Very good coffee and their honey wheat bread is amazing!
John Manzo
Went for brunch and it was excellent. Great food and excellent service.
Chuck Weber
Best service, waiter knew everything, timing was great, very professional. Home of the most tender filet I have ever had (I've had a lot). I got to try multiple items. Pastas are awesome, and the Gnocchi was everything the waiter said it would be, which was "his favorite meal on the planet." Eat here. You're welcome.
Nick Klinstiver
Some of the best food you can get in Louisville. Trendy place with good service.
Ashley Ansbro
YUM, YUM, YUM! This was our last meal in Louisville and we absolutely loved it. Instagram worthy dishes and cocktails in a super cute location. The grits were outrageous, and make sure to get a fresh pastry. Don't even think about going on the weekend without a reservation.
Charles Halal
Bloody Mary deliciously spicy!Butcher block sandwich excellent! Blueberry scones, delightful!
As well as the bouquet of the verdiccio from Mache.
Bonnie Lloyd
We went to have lunch today and shop at Work the metal which was having their open house. I’ve been here several times and have recommended this place often. Today was the worst service I’ve ever had! Our waitress was beyond terrible! We had to flag her down to order a drink, flag her down 35 minutes later to get that drink and order our food, then 40 minutes later to check on our order and one more time to get our check. Good thing there was water on the table because she never checked to see if we wanted anything else. While sitting there, the people next to us were also waiting for a very long time. Same waitress came over and apologized for the wait, gave them an appetizer and told them their whole meal would be comped! We literally got our food 2 minutes before they did! I mentioned to the hostess how bad it was and she just said they were busy! Derby was much more busy and I had no problems. Always great in the past. At first I wrote it up to the waitress must be new and decided not to say anything to her. She knew our frustration. I tipped her but after she comped the table next to us, I have to think hard about going back there or recommending this place. Too many other great places with better service. Sorry, I never write anything bad about a place but it was over the top.

Great atmosphere, Good service, and delicious food for any pallet
Rob Longshore
I have now experienced Butcher town Grocery twice and have been wow'd again. Excellent food, knowledgeable server and perfect dining experience.
Peter Hurst
My favorite place to have an upscale brunch, with the best flavors, in the hottest area of town.
JJ Haws
Killer food, for starters. Aesthetically interesting without being overdone. Is it lame to say I dug the vibe of their staff? They were cool. I like the upstairs speakeasy thing. Check it out.
Shane Quinlan
Had a phenomenal dinner. Excellent wine suggestions, great pairings, and a solid menu.
Jake Goldsborough
Such a great spot. Loved the ambience, cocktails, dinner, and dessert.
Smallz
Good food friendly service, sometimes they have live salsa in the bar upstairs
C
Came for drinks and food on separate occasions. Super fun unique drinks and beyond delicious food. Bartender made special drinks that were not on menu by request of me - loved the attention my drinks got! Everyone was eyes wide open - beautifully decorated and tastey! Such a cool atmosphere. Amazing live music, not sure what night that was though. Highly recommend!!
Jane King
The atmosphere was cozy and service was great. Did not have the opportunity to check out the upstairs.
Myles Graybill
Really good food even though the price was high it was definitely worth it! The cocktails were really good! Tried to New York sour it was definitely interesting and I would recommend it.
New thing ... Lola upstairs will serve the entire menu if you decide to drop in without a reservation. 2nd visit... orecchiette and Pecan Salad.
Kimberly OLeary
Food very flavorful. Service excellent. Try the gnocchi.
Devin Ramdutt
Great find just outside the main hub of Louisville. Modern and inventive food with healthy portion sizes and interesting flavors.
Service was quick and friendly and the overall price didn't seem to be too high (although I'm not exactly sure as I didn't pay). I would recommend this place if you are visiting Louisville and are a bit of a foodie or if you'd like to experience some modern American cuisine with a Midwest touch.
Joe Reilly
Had great time at Sunday brunch. Bloody Mary with bone marrow, although weird, was enjoyed by our kids. Foods was great. Service and atmosphere both perfect.
Amy Jo Hazelwood-Cull
Immaculate set up! Impeccable quality! Sevice, extremely precise! Outstanding taste and robust flavor! In other words, this may have been my first experience but it definitely shall not be my last!
Bernice Hayden
Went to LOLA'S bar upstairs yesterday evening and the atmosphere was so calming, all candlelit, very comfortable. The service and wine excellent of course.... didn't get to eat but definitely a perfect dating/talking/or just chill spot.
Jan Bond
Cool place. Great food and service.
Larry Snyder
Great food and service. Beignets were outstanding. I think bourbon progress are a little high
Jay Engle
Good service and unique menu items with great presentation.
Maureen Rogg
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. A local treasure! We ❤ Butchertown Grocery!
Jerimy Tate
Literally some of the best food in Louisville, everything I have there is anywhere from pretty good to outstanding. Old Fashioned are some of the best in the city as well.
Jeremiah Ambrose
Fantastic food (from a true foodie), a wonderful addition to NuLu
Sonia Vazquez
Loved it! Went there for my birthday while in Louisville and it was absolutely delicious. The service was great, as well as the drinks. Had the bone marrow, seafood pasta and broccolini. And do not skimp on the dessert!! Had the bread pudding and beignets (hey, it was my birthday so we had to splurge!)
Josh Schultz
Pricey but good food and unique craft cocktails.
Josh Freeman
Sat at the bar... Good atmosphere. The gnocchi and burger was awesome!
Dennis Baum
Fantastic food!
Friendly location!
Rolled into Kentucky and this was our first meal out. Blown away! Incredible food, and great staff. We sat at the bar and Mica (bartender studying for his sommelier—wine steward—cert) made some excellent recommendations for food and, of course, whiskey, based on what we said we liked and were interested in.
John Hays (FitDudeFood)
Great local restaurant! I went the first night of my bachelor trip with my groomsmen and we had a blast! The ice cream on the salad was bizarre, but tasty! The gnocchi is in the amazing sauce with incredibly tasty oyster mushrooms. Loved it!
Morgan Hubbard
The mushroom gnocchi may have been the best thing I've ever consumed. All of the food is delicious and the atmosphere was great.
Nicholas Graziose
My favorite restaurant in Louisville! Always delicious, the food is very creative. The bourbon selection is second to none, and the staff always makes us feel so welcome.
Cindy Perez
Catering Department wonderful for a wedding. We went upstairs with a group of 20 for an intimate wedding. Great atmosphere, great food and drink. Thank you for making my son's wedding all that he envisioned.
Rachel Jenkins
Definitely pricey, but worth it. The food was delicious. The Army & Navy was potentially the best drink I've ever had. Our server introduced himself twice and we all had a good laugh - he was just back from vacation. The pasta is made in house and the beignets were delish.
Selena Van Klompenberg
Yum! Pricey, but worth it!
Chris W
My wife and I went for lunch. Service was great, but the place was 3/4 empty and they sat us next to the only other couple there- two pitiful souls apparently on their first date after connecting on “super impressive rich people meet”. Restaurant was a little dark and too hoity-toity for our liking- especially for lunch. . ”butcher block” sandwich was amazing (5*), but my wife’s pecan salad was not very good.
Eryn Hite
Amazing food! Friendly and helpful staff.
Jered Spansell
This is in no way, shape or form, a grocery store. It is an upscale restaurant with excellent food.
Norf Norf
Service was great, food is exceptional. Chicken &Waffles was killer
Maggie Towne
We loved our experience here..we are not high-end customers but we felt welcomed by Thaddeus and discovered THE BEST BURGER WE HAD EVER HAD. honest. Super atmosphere and OMG the bread pudding! heaven. We will be back.
Mike Norris (aka scuba_mike aka Sirron)
The food was excellent here. I had the Hangover cure (not that I needed it) and it was perfect. My wife ordered a few things a la carte and was very pleased. The only issue I have is that you cannot get just a plain cup of coffee. You can only get a French Press cup for $9. That was more expensive than the mimosa we had.
Lindsey Davidson
Absolutely lovely food, drinks, and service. The gnocchi was perfect!
Jordan Huss
Upscale food, beautiful interior. Went for brunch, had a delicious smoked salmon omelet and machete cheese hash browns are a must
M Porta
Hip joint, just watching the bar tenders make drinks is entertaining. Haven't ate there yet. Just been to the bar up stairs, it's pretty dark. But it adds to the feel I guess. Always good music. Bring your biggest wallet, cocktails are expensive but are delicious.
Nick Beckham
One of the best meals my wife and I have had in Louisville. The chicken & waffles were especially delicious. We will definitely be back!
Julie Purcell
Absolutely EXCEPTIONAL experience! We were wowed by our dinner at Butchertown Grocery. Atmosphere- amazing. Our server was VERY educated on the wine list ... her knowledge was so exceptional that we complemented her on it and she explained that the restaurant heavily trains the staff on wines and bourbons.
After asking about the incredibly delicious olive oil they served with their house made focaccia, THE CHEF CAME TO OUR TABLE to tell us about it and the EIGHTEEN olive oils that he uses, each for a different sauce. WOW. And I haven’t even mentioned the food... everything was delicious! We enjoyed the pear salad, the oysters were fresh and beautifully displayed and the shaved fresh horseradish did not go unnoticed; the gnocchi we split as another course between us and was delicious, and we finished with another house made(!) pasta and the BBQ shrimp. Between the service, ambiance and food prepared with such originality and excellence, it was a meal to remember. Looking forward to coming back soon!
Patty Jones
Delish!!! One of our favorites in Louisville! The service is 5 Star and the food is fabulous!
Michael Montgomery
Food and drinks were great, though a bit over priced. The chicken and waffles was delicious.
ehabhajali
Food is very good and made from scratch but the portion is very small and prices are very bad ;
michelle Brown-Maddox
This restaurant is a small jewel in the heart of old Butchertown located in a refurbished brick building that was once a grocery store for the area. The inside atmosphere is at once casual and somewhat upscale with intimate seating and a well stocked separate bar area in the front of the store. Reservations are not required but suggested to prevent wait time for seating and to provide prompt, individual table service. The staff is very attentive, and our delicious food was served very quickly! My husband and I ordered brunch from a menu which offered mostly familiar selections (eggs, waffles, bacon, omelettes, homemade soups and sandwiches, salads) as well as a few unusual ones (escargot) prepared by chef and owner, Bobbie Benjamin who also owns BG bakery a few blocks away. I would suggest ordering the blueberry scones with lemon curd as they were excellent with coffee. The table settings are meticulously set, and you are entertained with quiet music from the 70-80's. I was impressed with this venue, and we will definitely return soon!
Julia Jones
First time visitors 2/16/19 and I can’t wait to go back. I had never had chicken and waffles before but the people next to us had it and recommended it so a friend I split it. Perfect size for 2 people and it had the most amazing flavor. The topping paired with the chicken was amazing! I want to try everything.
Mark LoGiurato
Excellent find in Louisville - everything from the greeting at the front of the house to the servers and the food were excellent! The coctkails are also good!
Joel Wood
Great service, food, and atmosphere.
saloon 151 west chester
Fabulous place! Incredible oysters, pasta and steaks.
Gil Schrage
Well I can't afford to dine here that frequently, Butchertown grocery has become one of my favorite go-to spots. Service is always excellent and attentive and the food is better. Love the atmosphere too. Only negative thing I could say is you need to make reservations well in advance, even for nights you would expect to be slow!
Autumn Lewis
So delicious, it's expensive but for a date night out, which we don't get very often with a young son, it was perfect. We sat upstairs at Lola. It's very dark but intimate so it was perfect for a date night. I am vegan and had a cauliflower dish that was beyond amazing. So many unique flavors in one dish and it worked so well together. I got it based on the waitresses recommendation. No regrets. I usually don't eat oil but made an exception for the night. For the menu that night they couldn't accommodate that. My significant other got the seafood pasta dish. He liked it but said it was very citrus-y. Or lemony. Not a place I would go too often (the way my bank account is set up lol) but definitely for special occasions with the one I love. Highly recommend for unique flavors and if you have diet restrictions just ask, they actually asked when I made the reservation. Only giving 4 stars because I wish it were a bit more affordable.
Dawn Mathis
Ahhh what can I say.... love at first bite. Quality ingredients, farm to table, classic old Lousiville building that gives great moody decor, prices typical 15-50 plate. We usually go at lunch. Love thier classic burger. My new favorite is pop waffle! Oh my it is a fantastic waffle! You should see the chicken and waffle meal! Out of this world. Its huge! Closed from 2-5. They have brunch/lunch and dinner. The parking is street parking. I have never had an issue finding a spot. Sometimes you can walk a ways. No biggie for me. J love a nice stroll. It's off the main street. It is not wheelchair accessible that I can tell. The front door has steps, no ramp. I would call and ask about an alternative entrance. I take my kids but it's not a regular thing to see kids. It seems to be popular among lady lunches, as well as business, of course couples. Staff is friendly. Service is great. No fast food here. Always worth the wait.
Stephen McCaffrey
A must EAT place in Louisville. Fresh food, great drinks, and both have that extra effort on detail and taste
Frank J. Portela
One of the best food I ever had.
camila calderon
Best biscuits in town! Highly recommend.
Kim Spargur
Lovely brunch!
Tom Duffy
Great quality, but it took a really long time to get our food. We had a group of 6, took a new employee for lunch and needless to say we were late getting back to work. It didn't look that busy. I will give them another chance when I have the time. Oh yeah, I had the salad topped with blue cheese jalapeno ice cream. It really didn't have much taste. The candied walnuts were delicious.
Brad Abell
I’ve been here 4 times and got the same meal each time. Can’t speak for the rest of the menu but the New Zealand rack of lamb is the best cut of meat I’ve ever had.
Elise Williamson
Absolutely wonderful! We split the pecan salad and the pig & goat burger. The presentation was beautiful and they brought everything to us already split! The drinks were different and delicious! New favorite!
Granger Adams
I had wanted to go to this place for a long time, but had a hard time justifying paying $15-18 for a side of vegetables. But, a special occasion came up and my love and I went there for dinner. The short answer is- It was worth it, and we will be back (and the sides are plenty for two).
We had a wonderful dinner. Service was excellent and the meal was perfectly paced. We got the Ravioli pasta to start. It was divine. The sauce was simply amazing. For my entree, I ordered the BBQ shrimp and grits. Fantastic. It was a very unique BBQ sauce. Not sticky sweet, but very complex and smoky. The grits were perfect. The other entree was roast chicken. Although hard to screw up a roasted chicken, this was spiced perfectly and cooked so it was very tender and juicy. We also had a side of roasted cauliflower. This was served cold. I wasnt sure if it was meant to be that way or not. I think it would be better hot. I probably should have asked, but by the time we got to it we were just too full to really care. It was good, but not wow great like the rest. We finished it off with the bourbon and maple sunday. Fantastic!
I was looking at a few of the other entrees that nearby tables ordered. It all looked great. I cant wait to come back and try some new things.
Robin Moore
I have to admit I was a fan of the old one Pig-Meat combo of restaurant and bar. I don't think the current residents have fully captured that magic but I'm optimistic that they can and hopefully will.
Farmer Phil
The atmosphere is great for a romantic date, it is not a fun atmosphere though. This is not to say that a person will not have a good time, it's just that the atmosphere is more like a vacuum in which each table and group is isolated.
The food was decent. The menu offered more by the way of being fancy that was more than desired by this author the evening of the visit. I settled on the hamburger; it was not cold, but it was not warm/hot either. It did taste good, however being served at a higher temperature would have increased the score on the flavor scale.
The bartenders, Greg and Blythe, possess fantastic personalities, were very knowledgeable, and provided great attention to us.
Mark Powers
My food was great. Great waitress.
JR W
Great local kitchen. Bartender Josh was an expert mixologist and the food was wonderful
Steven Blankley
Very nice place with a great atmosphere tucked away in a nostalgic part of Louisville.
Sean Moore
Delicious, but a little expensive. Excellent service, plating, and decor.
tànyà Troxell
Great food,but pricey.
Matthew McConnell
Brie was awesome! She made our stay here in Louisville so much more enjoyable with her great suggestions and the best cocktails we had on the whole trip!
The food was amazing, and we tried a lot of different things! All of it was delicious and unique. The bourbon menu was extensive, and it's so cool how they have many of their own private picks, things you won't be able to try or by anywhere else but at the restaurant.
Thanks for the great memories, i hope to visit again soon!
Annie Mitchell
The upstairs is perfect. Wonderful cocktails and comfortable upscale atmosphere. The doors in and out can be a little tricky.. especially is you've been enjoying the cocktails. :)
Jason Fremstad
Great lunch. Butchertown sandwich is the best sandwich I have ever had. Bold statement but true.
Melissa Beavin
Best breakfast sandwich I’ve EVER had and I love my breakfast sandwiches!! And their teas are fabulous too!
Zainub Sareea
This was an absolutely fabulous dinner! We ordered the yellow bowl salad and I’m not a salad person , BUT I will eat this salad over and over again. It has flavors I had not had before, sweet, spicy, warm crunchy , colorful.. this is an amazing dish. We also had the gnocchi! DO NOT leave this place without eating the Gnocchi! It is out of this world! Smoky, creamy, just a fantastic dish all around. For my entree I had the Salmon which was cooked perfectly, crispy skin, flaky inside. Top notch! Don’t even think about skipping the dessert.. just don’t.. the brownie and the coffee ice cream was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Next time.. I guess I’m just gonna not eat for 2 days so I can try a few more things here... cause there is no way.. I will go here and not get the salad, gnocchi, brownie.. yeah pretty much everything . This place is awesome
David Sweet
Lamb burger was excellent.
Emma Kuntz
Great service. Excellent brunch foods.
Devin Rogers
Alia was wonderful. It has a great atmosphere with wonderful staff. She made the visit worth while.
Ebony Singleton
Good food and great atmosphere!
David Brenner
Awesome food, great staff, will definitely be back! The beignets are outstanding!
Harold Winne
Food was very good, but hugely expensive
Victoria Popp
Had a great dinner at Butchertown Grocery tonight! Fantastic oysters, steak, salmon and dessert. Reasonably priced for how good the food is. One of the best restaurants in Louisville!
David Park
Fantastic find. Loved the Butcherblock sandwich. Fries were perfect. We finished off our meals with the banet which were delightful.
Definitely on my list of must eats in Louisville.
G P
Warm, stylish eatery in a 19th-century building located in Louisville's historic Butchertown neighborhood. American classics with a twist, like the country pate and bourbon-spiked fries, or the oysters with bourbon mignonette.
The dining room downstairs features shelves of dry goods along with exposed red brick and wood. A “Gunkel’s” sign is also painted on the brick wall behind the bar.
Let me just take the downside out of the way since I don’t want it to take away from the delicious food we had. Service was possibly the worst I have had in a while. Our waitress was friendly but either new without any clue about serving or just hungover? She Brought us first my coffee with no milk or spoon or anything then milk, then spoon, after 10mins my friend’s tea again with no spoon. Throughout our whole experience was that one item at the time, which honestly was VERY ANNOYING!! And I will take a star away for that (sorry Butchertown I still love you =] )
We went for Sunday brunch. Not cheap (especially for Louisville), but well worth it! Everything we ordered was fantastic; Eggs Benedict made with pork belly that was out of this world and Pop’s Waffle was also delicious.
Food -
*BUTCHERTOWN EGGS BENEDICT pork belly, english muffin, truffle bearnaise
*Pop’s Waffle bacon, fried eggs, molasses butter, maple syrup
What a great surprise!
Brittany Becerra
The pasta special was ridiculously good... My heart broke when it was all gone lol The service was absolutely outstanding as well!
Darryl Currah
Terrific place for a chill dining experience. Pork Belly for the win!
Paul Collins
Abosultey amazing experience at Lolas last night. Drinks were great and the grilled cheese on their new late night menu was quite literally the best thing I have ever eaten.
Veronica Jones
The atmosphere and drinks were good, although the music was very loud. The food was good, with exception of the shrimp dish. Only 3 shrimp and they were overcooked. The burgers were delicious as were the cauliflower. Everything was overpriced.
Jeff Rochford
A bit pretentious and overpriced. But good. And a fish on a charcuterie board!!
Victoria Schwartz
Ate here for my 2 year anniversary and we were blown away by our meal and the service provided by our server, Andrew. We had the escargot and Brussels sprouts salad to start followed by splitting the seafood pasta and lamb chops — both were incredible. Our food came out slightly later than anticipated and I honestly didn’t notice at all as we were busy with our appetizers, wine and in conversation. Our waiter graciously treated us to free benigets and coffee to cap off our evening to apologize for the slight delay in our main dish. The red wine we had was so delicious and Andrew brought the bottle out at the end of our meal and told us where we could buy a bottle of our own. Overall, they have curated an excellent environment and have top notch customer service. 10/10 would recommend to anyone considering giving it a try.
Brittany Miller
If you haven't been to Butchertown Grocery you need to venture your way there. Beside their absolutely delicious and unique food menu BG has a very warm and romantic atmosphere as well as excellent Service. I highly recommend the Rotisserie Chicken as an entree and the Elvis sundae for dessert!
Rich Mooney
Expensive, but my wife and I both loved it. One of our all time best dining experiences.
Diane Karem
Interesting menu. I got the Butcher Bkock sandwich and it was delicious!
Teri Castrop
Getting ready to travel back to Kansas City I wanted some good food for the road. I feel like I hit the jackpot! I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant. Amazing! They forgot my chips so the manager ran out to my car brought me the chips that were so worth the wait, plus an amazing white chocolate macadamia cookie. Very cool atmosphere too.
Audrea DiLiberto
So much fun. Visit the speakeasy space upstairs for some fine craft cocktails.
Chris Garrett
The Butchertown Benedict was amazing. Between four of us, I think we tried half the menu, and every bite was better than the previous bite! Perfection across the board, including the amazing staff! Great job Butchertown!
Scott W.
This was a phenomenal meal, absolutely delicious and loved it
A P
Very good service. Wife and I had BBQ shrimp which was ok but not New Orleans BBQ shrimp. If opportunity presents itself I would like to return to try something else. We did have a bit of sticker shock since main seach on Google shows two $$ and in my opinion should be three $$$. All menu items are a'la cart.
David Shaw
5 star cocktails. Food is top notch, but some of the most interesting items are on the daily specials menu.
Holly Hamilton
Beautiful place, and the food was wonderful.
Karen Huckabone
What fun friendly staff and great food
Becky Taylor
Becky and I made reservations for our wedding anniversary. The staff was extremely courteous and very professional. The food and service were OUTSTANDING as was the ambiance. Our server, Amber, kindly accomodated my wife's special needs due to lactose intolerance.VERY WELL DONE. We will be back......
David B
Stopped in after watching the Derby, and everything was amazing! The fried chicken portion is huge, and the cocktails are wonderful.
Alexandra Cheerva
Great food, good atmosphere.
Justin VanAusdale
Jared W was our server and we couldn't be happier with how everything was with the visit.
The food was amazing, the service was top notch, the atmosphere was incredible and has to be experienced to be believed. It's very obvious the staff and ownership has thought very long about the tiny details that make a restaurant go from "good" to "great."
I can't recommend Butchertown Grocery enough to anyone thinking they may want to go. Just go - you won't regret it.
William Redifer
Good experience, great staff, nice atmosphere.
Mark Thaggard
One of the best restaurants in Louisville. Bouillabaisse was unbelievable and was overflowing with seafood.. the bourbon selection is loaded with great selections and styles so belly up!
Ryan Kroger
Two words Chicken and Waffles. Don't make the mistake I did and eat anything before this, you will need your appetite for this. I've had chicken an waffles several other times and nothing comes close.
Patricia FRANK
It was ok. Kind of a trendy over priced place. I've had much better for less money around town
