Reviews of Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery
Raisa Melendez
Came here when there was a line out of the door. The line moved quickly and the people helping the customers were so nice and thoughtful. It was my first time there so the lady helping me answered all of my questions and even took me to the shelf of mini moon cakes to show me their inventory. Our mini moon cakes were so delicious and smelled so good. I will definitely come back--hopefully, I can grab some of their mochi moon cakes in the near future.

Coconut Snow Puffs weren't for me but my wife loves them.
Difficult to park nearby, so my wife dived out the car whilst we circled the block.
Within 5 minutes we received the food even though the queue was out of the doorway.
The manapua are definitely worth trying, a little sweet but that just tingles the taste buds more.
Egg Custard is also very good.
Only knocked a star off due to personal taste as some items just weren't for me. Although others in the family did like them more than I did
Nathan Kam
One of the most popular destinations in downtown for manapua, pork hash, ma tai soo, and other Chinese favorites. Definitely worth a visit, but expect to wait and be patient. Pork hash and ma tai soo we’re my favorites. Manapua is pretty good too. Stop by and get your eat on. 🤙🏼🤙🏼 …
Justin Salzer
Love their manapua’s! The char siu manapua is so ono, as is the char siu su. Everything was devoured quickly! We had some half moons, chicken curry manapua and shrimp dumplings.
Until next time!
Tip: there is a Chinatown municipal parking lot directly across the street, which makes for easy parking!

My supervisor, who is born and raised in Hawaii, said that this place was her favorite Chinatown restaurant for dim sum, and now I cam see why. I rolled in at 4pm and there was no line, which made me feel like I lucked out since most of the pictures depict a line out the door. Going so late in the day though, they unfortunately ran out of Har gow, so I'll have to come back soon to try some of those. They charge per dim sum item, which keeps it super cheap. I ordered 8 pork hash, which is the Hawaiian take on siumai and 2 of the half moons. The pork hash was delicious - they were ginormous and well seasoned. The texture is more spongy and smooth compared to Cantonese siumai, kind of like ngau yuk. I did enjoy the crisp crunch of onions in some bites. The half moons were also good, which were filled with pork and veggies. I very much enjoyed dipping the dim sum in the shoyu mustard dipping sauce. My overall bill was $15, which I think is a steal. The counter person was also super friendly. Will definitely be coming back to order boxes-full to share with the office!
Visa and Mastercard only.

There was a good amount of customers at the time we came here. Purchase a black sugar moon cake, banana roll cake, and a glutinous rice cake here and all were tasty (especially the rice cake, which I had not had in years and it brought back a lot of good memories).
Grace Kim
This place was so good!! Only waited a few minutes on an early Sunday morning. Had to get the char siu baked Manapua (very good and the most meat I’ve ever seen in Manapua and big chunks too), the sesame ball with coconut was amazing (can’t remember the actual name) it wasn’t too sweet and very chewy, then a mochi rice shumai which was also a nice savory pop! Everything I got was great

Awww…becuz my fav dim sum place (Char Hung Sut) for manapua (bao) and pork hash (sui mai) closed, I had to find another go to place. This bakery comes close. The manapua contained a fair amount of meat compared to dough and the pork hash were good size. Tried the mochi sui mai which was similar to sticky rice except steamed in a won ton wrap. Also, ordered a couple of lup cheong baos…not bad, like a hot dog in a steamed bun. Recommend at least a try. Will go back.
JMAC
Line was only 5 deep today so after going to Nam Fongs next door, stood in line for some taro cake and moon cake for good luck. Got the black bean with yolk and the 5 nuts with yolk moon cakes. Kinda different and yummy! They got pork hash, manapua, half moon, shrimp dumpling and more! 😋 …
emi chin
The BEST place to get your Chinese dumplings(manapua, pork hash, half moon, etc)in Honolulu. Everything is fresh. Assorted Asian sweets /candies also here. Always a line of customers. But the line moves quickly. This should tell you it’s the Best.
G J
Love the size of the pork hash and the taste of the dimsum. Definitely a must have but beware parking is hideous.
Virginia Marzo
There very organized and helpful in there orders there bakery and candies are great. Would recommend too every one that comes here only thing hopefully they enjoy the scenery and standing in line. Lines goes by fast if everyone knows there ordering.
Mimi Healy
My favorite place for baked manapua, pork hash, rices cakes and half moon. they have an excellent array of snacks and baked/steamed goods. service is always fast and friendly. Easiest parking is in Marine Tower.
Leo Jamias
I like their manapua (Char siu and black bean). The wedding and black bean cookie is also good. If I'm hungry I buy their sticky rice wrapped in leaves with meat in the center...I'm getting hungry just thinking of it. These folks are good at making Chinese pastries.
Elaine Chen
They serve good dim sum and good pastries/snacks. The bakery definitely lives up to their name if you ever tried their food, but the lines can be very slow even at opening hours.
Pete, con chó đốm
This is my go to Chinese dim sum place in Honolulu!!! Shrimp dumplings, pork hash(xiu mai) and baked manapua are my favorites!!!
Of course there are other dim sum dishes that you can try!!!
😋🥰😋

Awesome bakery! The service is a bit lagged and the wait on a Saturday morning around 9-10 am is about 15 min but worth the wait. The char siu su was the star, warm flaky dense crust and savory interior. Also liked the moon cake but they are like a brick!
Jimmy Fung
In the heart of Chinatown and doesn't look like much on the outside but it has very good chinese food. I went there for Chinese new Year to get some comfort food. Closest thing to the great Chinese food in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Joong was tasty and sizeable and came with either mung (yellow) bean or black bean versions. Both came with salted lean pork and preserved duck egg yolk. Sorry no fatty pork, lap cheung, scallops, dried shrimp or peanuts. On the plus side there is no MSG pr heavy pepper.
Manaupua (char siu bao) is traditional with chopped pork versus the shredded mash found in most Hawaiian variants. It comes in both baked and steamed versions. Both tasty.
Gau is very standard and comes sprinkled with sesame seeds. They have smaller sizes occasionally so ask so you don't have to buy whatever is out on display.
Candied fruits are reminiscent of childhood. Very sweet as usual and varies in price from $8.95 to $12.50 per pounds. Mixed box is $11.95 a pound and by pracitcw they fill the standard box size they have. You soend about $15-$25 per box. Mango, sweet potato, melon, lotus root and chunk coconut are very good. Strawberry was good but pricey and jabong (pomelo) rinds were sweet and tart. Shredded coconut was very sweet. Papaya was mild flavored. Haven't tried apple other flavors. We were offered samples whoch was nice.
Mooncakes, custard tarts, and other pastries were all very good.
We will definitely be back and will try something new.
Tomomi Nakashima
It is a special season, custard pie! Their custard is very smooth and melts in a mouth. Not so sweet, yet you can enjoy the nice custard flavor. We called for a pick up order, and it was ready to go when we showed up at the store. Of course we couldn't leave with this pie only. We stepped out the bakery with hands full. On the way back to the car, we saw a long line toward another bakery. This bakery takes an order, so I recommend to reserve your pie before heading there.
Jackie Pagan
Omg, the best so generous Coconut 🥥 gin dui out of this world a must-go-to if you're in Hawaii !!! …
Albert Vo
A hidden gem in Chinatown where you can get big pork hashes and other delicious food.
Kawamura David
Best baked char siu Managua in town. Their halfmoon, pork hash, shrimp dumplings are very tasty also.
Michael Judd
The food here is tantalizing to your mouth as it is for your eyes...so much selection, so little space. It's so yummy, a must if you're downtown. Oh, and i love their mooncake selections!
Therese Howe
In addition to their baked and steamed manapua, this place is known for their wide array of crack seed snacks including various flavors of li hing mui. When my friend asked me for “wet” li hing mui and rock salt plum, I figured I’d be driving all over the island to find it - should have known to just come to Chinatown!
Jay Wu
The best Chinese bakery in town! You will enjoy their delicious traditional Chinese food.
KChin
Omg they got Jung! 2 kinds tho. No beans. This place has a TON of good stuff! Their shumai is ginormic! They're popular so there might be a line outside (coz the pandemic limits them to one customer per) but you can do a phone order and pick up. I recommend to do the phone order because then you don't have to wait in line.
Lambert B Jr
First time coming here... And brah this place is legit... Their Manapua's did not disappoint... Both the steam and baked was Ono... Every Manapua was stuffed with so much goodness... Their Pork hash is Majah huge... No even get me started with the Hotdog Manapua's... As you can see in my picture... I couldn't even for take the first... I had to take on bite...😁😁😁 It's an Automatic I going come here again... Get so much other stuff I like try... Stay safe and blessed everyone...🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Randy Lee
Now that I can eat wheat, this was a must visit on our latest visit to Honolulu. I took other reviewer's recommendation to order ahead by phone. I actually ordered from Los Angeles before we left. I agree that it's best to order ahead if you have an idea of what you want. The dimsum was very good. I had hoped that the Mah Tai Soo, Char Siu Soo, and other similar pastries would have the flaky, layered crust. However, the crust on these was more like cookie crust. Good, just different from what I expected. The manapua (Hawaii-style bao) was good. Street parking in the area is hard to come by. There is a municipal garage right across the street, but it's not great.
Eldon Ngo
Fast service. Parking is street parking. Last time I left here. I got a flat tire going back home. The bakery items here are tasty. The duck place next door is just as amazing.
GD GD
Some of the best Chinese baked goods on the island. The constant line out the door is proof of how good this place is.
David Rosenfelder
Absolutely delicious treats and good prices. They accept cash and visa/mastercard. We will definitely be back to try even more goodies!
Louise DuPont
Biggest steamed & baked manapua 😍
Good variety of other mea ono, & all kine candies, seeds & snacks 😃 …
Paul uyehara
Best pork hash on the island, hands down! And the rest of the items are killa!
Natalya Acob
Rice cake was yummy!
Kwan Lau
Woo the line was long. But the baos are so good!
Justin Okamura
One of the best manapua ships around.
Rachel
Great moon cakes, and a classic Hawaii Chinatown destination. During the busy season - call ahead to order or show up at opening time!!! Nice staff - follow the Instagram for any updates and specials!
Isaac
Get the butter mochi and manapuas. Worth the visit but bring cash and a mask.
Allen Leong
From 7am, wait to get in was one hour. Only one person taking orders. Phone in if you can or go somewhere else. They don't care about customer service.
Evelyn Ku'uAloha Nomura
The wait was worth it- best Manapua & rice cakes. Wanted to try moon cakes but the flavor I wanted not available. Line can build up pretty fast. Got there around noon so hot while waiting outside.
Leslie Mack PINKCRUSH808
Their bao aka manapua is delicious. You can choose from traditional steamed or baked. They have a few different flavors to choose from. There is also traditional Chinese candies. The variety of dried preserved delicacies are well worth the price. There are a variety of dim sum that are available from Har gau, pork hash, half moon, Mat tai soo, and many other treats to choose from including moon cakes. There is a line because the treats are yummy. Be prepared to stand in the line or you can opt to order online or by phone and get it to go.
Jamie Go
Some of the best "fast-food" Char Siu Bao out there. And prices for other dim sum goodies are reasonable.
Kuulei G
Love their dim sum. They are delicious and big. It is better to call ahead to place your order. The line can be long and their food goes fast. Paid parking areas all over.
Jenessa Adams
Delicious moon cakes! I need to go back for their other items because they look so good. All made in house, I believe too. There was a 30 minute line outside on Mid Autumn Festival, but I don't think it's that busy on the other days. Definitely worth it though! $10 minimum order for card.

Dim Sum ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Friendly courteous.. Lol
Jerry Celentano
We love there Rice Cake #1
jfly kick
Best items to try is steamed manapua, pork hash, char siu triangles and custard tart.
The manapua has bigger slices of meat than most restaurants.
Char siu triangles was so good the crust is perfect.
For baked Manapua try royal kitchen. The filling is more creamy. When is fresh the manapua melt in your mouth!
Char S
Never disappointed! Love their pork hash, half moon, rice cake, shrimp dumplings “stuffed only with shrimp”, steamed and baked char siu manapua, custard tarts. Don’t forget to call your order in so you won’t need to wait in their long line!!!!
Warren Hoo
A great place for Chinese baked goods. Get there early and allow yourself time to stand in line awaiting your turn to enter the shop and buy delicious Chinese baked goods. Gin dui, manapuas, dim sum, Jung and many other popular foods are sold. It's quite popular with the local people, often more crowded than similar sized bakeries in the area.
Dolly
I only stopped by because I saw they had moon cakes and I’d been really wanting to try one. Needless to say I left with more than just moon cakes! Anything you get here will taste amazing, especially the manapua and shrimp dumplings! It’s a must-go if you’re visiting Chinatown or Hawaii in general for some tasty baked goods.
Candace Chang
Great pork hash and steamed manapua! The baked manapua was good, but not as good as Royal Kitchen, but they have better pork hash. The jin dui are huge and fluffy, mildly sweet, little bit oily, and nicely chewy. They have a wide variety of adorable mooncakes in a bunch of different flavors. We enjoyed the pineapple ones. We were looking for a manapua restaurant that could replace Libby’s, and I think we found it.
Garrett Kam
Always nice to come here as I did with my mom. Nostalgic memories. Good selection of all childhood goodies and more. Staff very efficient and friendly so waiting not long. Line was short when I go there but 3 times as long by the time I left so got there at the right moment.
Kris Durrell
Best char siu manapuas I've ever had! Moist sweet streamed buns with flavorful pork filling. The baked manapuas are on point too. Pork hash, and half moons are a must as well.
Gerard Lee
This is our "go to place" for dim sum and Chinese treats. I think they have the best baked char siu bao in downtown and their gin dui is the best.
Only issue is the long line at times...if you have a large order, please call it in ... there's nothing more frustrating than waiting behind someone that can't make up their mind or doesn't know what they want.
H
Best freshly baked mooncakes in town! They have both the traditional and new styles. During the moon festival, they have very elegant packaging, perfect for gifting.
Mandy W
Best almond cookies and dried fruits
I also like the mochi rice and licorice olive.
John Chang
Love this place. Great dimsum and other Chinese candies that you can't find in other places. I especially like the pork hash there and the tong mai is also good.
Thomas Chi
Omg!
The lines are horrendous because of the organic, but how can you resist not going there. All there food and snacks they offer are out of this world. The store may not look like much though I feel like a kid in a candy store when I'm there. My body especially stomach cannot handle most Chinese foods and Dim Sum though I recommend them for the look and taste. If you are in Chinatown and you don't go, it is your loss.
I love to frequent this establishment EVERYTIME I go to Chinatown. My bother is a policeman and he brings home from there too. He says, it's like when we were kids.
There prices are reasonable compared to other places though I'm mostly there for the difference in taste. Quality is my main concern and I'm NEVER disappointed!!! 🥰
I went on a Saturday morning and parking is normally hard to find. I got lucky. I think it was the place I was going that gave ne the LUCK! 👍🤙
Kristal Wiebe
Excellent manapua buns, both the steamed and baked.
David Bright
I love their baked Manapua best on the Island, the shumai, half moon, and shrimp dumplings dim sum is delicious, all of the dim sum are only sold from 7:00 am until 12:00 PM so I suggest getting their early if you want dim sum!!!
Jake Huang
One of my go-to's for dim sum in Chinatown. The pork hash is a must, partly due to its size. Have you seen how big those suckers are? Secondly, the Jung is also great. No complaints and I've always been happy with what I got. Also, if you're into har gow, you gotta try it. It compares and even exceeds certain dim sum restaurants.
INTEGRITY ADMIN
This is the best place to get rice cakes. They make it fresh, they make it much, and they make it good. Easy to find, easy to park, in-and-out and you're done. And oh yes, the price is right. The most delicious tasting coconut balls too. Super crispy layer on the outside and soft on the inside,.... mmmmmm
Yvonne Takehara
Cost of their food items are pricey. Customer service was so so....employees didn't show interest in customers which turned me off. You can't do that and expect return customers.
Kristyne Tanaka
Everything is so yummy. The taro cake and mochi rice siu mai are my favorites.
QiaoQiao Jade
Great price, taste and a lot of varieties!
Patty
A nice variety of Chinese dim sum & confectionery deli.
Love the plump char sui bao, the shirmp har gau & char siu pastry puffs...Yum!
A favorite to bring as an "omiyage" to our Neighbor Island relatives.
Kiki
Happy Autumn! Thank you for the moon cakes.
Kristina Ricketson
Best ever!!! This is a must stop!!! Its so fresh and amazing every single time! Very consistent! 💓💓💓💓 …
Chavelle Galindo
They used to pit way more water chestnuts in the pork hash, was kinda disappointed the last few times I went there. Still, probably still the best place for baked char siu bao rice cake and other to go snacks of the like.
Angela Ward
I was on a mission looking for the best mamapua. A client brought a box of baked manapua and pork hash. It is the best manapua I have had so far. They aren't on Yelp or I would have left a review there. I can't say how the parking is since I didn't go myself
Charles-Yale Tang
Hands down my fav for stopping in for dimsum
Gary Wong
A very unique Chinese bakery. Every item is delicious from traditional to the modern versions. I'm just blown away by their creativity. A must stop, buy & eat. Look in the refrigerator section for their mochi-style moon cakes. Get it now. They only make it for the Mid-Autumn Festival...which is now.
Derek Pacheco
Fresh baked/steamed items, so delicious, a variety to choose from
debbie k
Debbie K.
They have a lot of different Moon Cakes. My Mom's favorite. Many different Dried Candied Fruits and Vegetables. My Brothers favorite the Dried Candied Coconuts. Me the Dried Candied Lotus Root. The Baked Manapua onolicious. Kind friendly staff. Always busy. Next time your in the area go inside look around. You will find something your tummy has the hungries for.
kathy sato
Delicious dim sum, snacks and sweets!
Kimberly Lan C.
Long lines close to big holidays like Lunar New year and Mid Autumn festival. You have to pull a ticket when it's busy like that. On normal days not that bad. I love their Ma Tai Su, and their pork hash! Yum.
Dustin S
Great Food! Best place for Manapua and pork hash! Be sure to try the Half Moon, Char Siu Siu Mai, Char siu Su, and the shrimp thing! Custard pie is awesome!
Elizabeth Coffin
Went because I heard they had great manapua. True. I personally prefer baked to steamed manapua, but tried both here and they were good. Would be 5 stars, but I haven't had anything else from here yet.
Tina Au
Their manapao bbq bun is great. Get it!! Its so soft and I love my bbq pork in chunks than shreaded. And it brings me back to childhood.
Terri Lynn Silva
The best Manapua on the island. Very flavorful and tasty. Especially love the baked Manapua. All the other Chinese delicacies are also wonderful. Loved everything I've eaten .
Michael Ching
Don't get me wrong I love the food here but won't be back for a while. What I'm about to say you can even see posted on their IG page. They don't enforce their policy of "Only 1 customer allowed in at a time" and "Please wear a mask". There is even a sign on the door that says no mask no service. The worker had on a face mask and face shield, the counter has plexiglass. BUT ALL OF THAT DOESNT HELP YOU IF ANOTHER CUSTOMER JUST COMES IN (CLOSER THAN SIX FEET) NOT WEARING A FACE MASK. Oh and to the owners if you doubt what I'm saying check your video security system.
Sylvia Young
They make the best Jung (mochi rice) with the black eye peas, pork, salted duck egg wrapped in ti leaves. The favor is just the way my grandmother made it.

They have different dim sum. Their custard tarts are the bomb. Great fresh tasting moon cakes and customer service is a plus.

We happened to walk by at the bakery while in Chinatown.
Pineapple cake Hawaii style was very thick flakey crust. (We also bought Taiwanese Pineapple cake from the Chinese supermarket around the corner 555 market which I look forward to try ...my guess is that the outer crust maybe very different.)
The home made pineapple filling was yummy 🤤
We also tried:
2 kinds of Siu (water chestnut and pork / Char Siu)
Jung Mochi Rice wrapped in the Tea leaves.
Tried the black eye beans, salted egg yolk and pork ...version. Very good taste, texture 😋 (They had green beans version I must try next.)
We stopped by around 3pm and many things were already gone. I have to get there early to try other items.
old Chinatown
I met a very delicious Chinese bakery
Chimaki with salted egg, meat, and beans is especially hearty
I was very satisfied
The pineapple cake was also delicious
The char siu on the grilled bread was especially delicious
It became last night's dinner
I still have to explore Chinatown

Manapua of char siu is big, cheap and delicious. Sausage bread is also cheap and delicious. Both are in the $1 range.
