I ordered $200 worth of pastries and cookies and cupcakes for my daughter's funeral. I live in Texas and had her service in Iowa. Everything was ready on time and absolutely delicious! I don't like cupcakes but I loved these especially the white cake with chocolate frosting. We had cookies decorated in cats and dogs. They were delicious, popular and lots of compliments. Thank you so very much!

Good donuts and rolls, and I like the atmosphere and I like to support local, but the customer service here drives me nuts. Every time I go in, there’s a long line and only one guy who works there who seems to move faster when it’s busy. Staff take a couple minutes to talk amongst themselves before helping the next person. Having grown up working in my family’s restaurant, it’s just frustrating to see a long line waiting and the people working moving so slowly. Again, great bakery, NICE employees, just like…MOVE!

Having lived in the area and getting fresh donuts before work regularly whenever we come back it is mandatory to stop. Unfortunately we didn't get there until til 8am (I know better) service was awesome and we still got a nice variety of donuts/rolls. This bakery is a definite must have!

Highland Park Bakery has the BEST Donuts. They don't skimp on fillings. Bavarian Creme is my favorite but we Love them all. Cost a little more then DD but well worth it.

Friendly service, very helpful!! Super happy they are open 6 days per week and closed on Mondays. Shop is open and bright inside. They have a variety of wraps, salads and sandwiches, as well as coffee's and other drinks.

Highland Park Bakery is such a wonderful place to stop. And now that they've done their remodel it is really a wonderful place to relax at and enjoy. Their donuts are absolutely amazing! But then again, so is everything else. They all wear their masks, gloves, and sanitize touchscreens after you use them which I greatly appreciate right now!! If you haven't been to Highland Park Bakery ever, or in a while, you need to go... NOW!! ❤️❤️

Great selection of tasty pastries. I don't like frosting but theirs is the best in town. Did I mention that it's pretty affordable? I got 2 donuts, 2 pecan rolls, a (great) cinnamon roll, and a drink for under $10 (including tip). The staff is prompt and friendly too. There's a good reason this place is busy every time I'm there.

I used to live in Hiland Park area. It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to the bakery. My son is now 40 years old and I have sweet memories, of stopping there after he got out of school for a cookie or pastry if available. I have read and heard many nice things about the remodel, I really need to get there and take a peek. I know I would want to get there early, because I know things sell fast. It’s hard for me to get early, but I’m going to have because I want my grandsons to be able to taste the sweet goodness of your products. Glad you’re doing a spectacular job and keeping things going. I hope to see you soon!

The goal is always to get ONE donut, but I've never left with less than a half dozen. I've never been much of a bakery person but I'm glad that this is in the neighborhood! Super wonderful staff and by far my favorite baked goods. Nothing has changed, I love Hiland bakery so much.

Highland is a little hole in the wall that I didn't know was missing from my life. My weekly trips to Aqualand could have been so much sweeter throughout the years. I tried the champagne donut and it was delicious. I also tried the hot chocolate and if you really like chocolate you will love it! I personally give it a 7 out of 10 just for the fact that I thought it was too chocolatey (who knew that was a thing!)

I delivered for them today. It smells wonderful in there always. They are fast, friendly, and give me a donut every time i make a delivery for them. No other place I deliver for does that. They are busy. Which suggests the food is good. Definitely my next stop for baked goods for sure.

Must have stopped by on an off day. It was about 10 am on a Thursday morning. Doughnuts were dry and just sweet. Couldn't tell a real difference between them and Safeway donuts. Person behind the counter was unhelpful and clearly wanted us to order and get out of the way. She mentioned how she'd been working since like 4 am a couple of times. I get that it's a long day. Ordered a cappuccino, which was good but which took quite a while for the kid behind the counter to serve. Not really worth going out of the way to try.

Wow! Amazing people, amazing donuts, and amazing location! Hiland Bakery owners welcomed my dog outside with a donut and a little bowl of water. Delicious donuts! Ordered and promptly consumed the maple bacon Persian and the cream filled donut. Most shops have too little cream for the donut. This one has overly generous amounts of cream which is the only way! I ordered a hot chai tea latte and was under impressed. It was bland with too little chai flavor. I’ll be back again just for the donuts!

I cannot say enough about these guys, they are simply the best bakers and Des Moines. Are used to live about one block away from the store and I would go there in the mornings (And you had to get there early before they sold out) and get doughnuts and the selection of treats would absolutely amaze me. They had everything you can think of. They are extremely nice. I mean really you cannot find a person anywhere in Des Moines who has anything negative to say about this place and if they do they just had a bad experience for some reason unrelated to this business. Simply put: until you’ve had something the ladies here have baked you have not had the true Des Moines experience. Strongly recommend

Helped with a stranded car and noticed this rustic donut shop window. After my friend and I went in for coffee and the smell got my appetite working. This place has a assortment of everything that's not good for the waistline but some of the best donuts I ever had . We got a dozen to go and I will make it a point to come back at least bi weekly since I live in Altoona . You gotta try this place im sure you'll enjoy it.

My childhood home that I grew up in was right behind Linn’s Supermarket, so I remember always coming to Hiland Bakery at least once a week. The staff has always been so kind to me, throughout all the ups and downs they’ve had, and you can really feel the family love. I love their doughnuts, my first choice is always the chocolate fried.. but their cookies are amazing! If you ever stop in on a day they have the cookies out, definitely pick one up! After such a long time of owning their business, you’d think they’d start raising their prices to match competitors, but to the contrary, their prices have stayed fair and economical. I will always suggest my friends to this place when in the area, I hope they stay open forever. Now, off I go to get some! :)

I get a dozen donuts every week for work. They are the best donuts EVER!!!! There was a contest for the best donuts in Des moines and they didn’t participate which was probably for the best it wouldn’t have been fair no one else is even close. You have to get there early but it’s worth it. If go on Thursday don’t take all of my powdered sugar donuts I need at least four. The people there are friendly and very fast. Give them a try. Also they don’t charge enough but don’t tell them

I live very close to this bakery and have almost nothing but praise for them. Delicious and high quality doughnuts and pastries, friendly and helpful staff, and quick service. The only negative thing I can see is that they run out of product to sell hours before they close, and I pretty much view it as a waste of time to come after 8:30am as all that is left are very slim pickings. That speaks to the popularity and quality of their offerings, but in my opinion they should either produce something for the late morning or just close earlier.

My grandparents used to own a company right next door (Dennis Carpet Fashions). We grew up eating Hiland Bakery goods and for our family, there is no other bakery that can compare. The cookies are amazing, the donuts are to die for, and the cakes are very moist and delicious. The staff is courteous ALWAYS, and the price is perfect. I have had donuts and cake from this bakery and they have both been HANDS DOWN the best of both I have ever had. Amazing taste and cheap prices. Cash or local check only and weird hours but I go out of my way to order from here when I need something.

It seems they have carried on the excellent history of this shop. Wide variety, well stocked bakery items. The pecan roll was loaded with pecans and softer texture than most other bakeries.

First time visiting today. The girl who helped me was so sweet & patient, I am undeceive when the comes to my doughnuts. The girl even double checked to make sure that the doughnut batter is made with dairy (my son is lactose intolerant). They are made with dairy. She helped me pick out some doughnuts I have not had before & when it come time to cash out she offered me a doughnuts card/buy so many get one free kind of thing. The doughnuts were amazing and well filled for the stuffed doughnuts. I will be back!

Absolutely fantastic donuts and possibly the best in the metro! I (literally) can't get enough of them, but only because they are now closed on Saturdays... would be 5/5 stars if they were open on weekends, even if for just a few hours. I can't be the only weekend donut eater, right?

The glazed donuts are the best I have found in the Des Moines area. Like others, I am disappointed that they're not open on Saturdays. Great service - just like things used to be. For those who haven't been here, note that they open at 5. And the selection is limited by 8:00. If you have trouble deciding, just go with the regular glazed donuts and you'll be pleased.

Very few places treat u as well as this family owned business. My grandmother used to take me when I was little.. I'm now 44 , they have done my wedding cakes , birthday cakes , cookies for all my kids and I wouldn't even think of going elsewhere .
