I haven’t had kolaches this good since I lived in Houston. Great to find them local. If you don’t know what they are, stop in and see. Bread with stuff in side. All kinds of different stuff. (If you do sausage, I’d suggest starting off with that as a good basic intro to a more classic flavor.)

Friendly and helpful staff coupled with amazing food makes this one of my new go to places. I've tried pretty much all the varieties of kolaches here and the jalapeno sausage ones are probably my favorite. I don't care for spicy food and this is flavorful without being hot. Just stopped in and bought a variety for breakfast with friends! And service was super fast as well. I was in and out in only about 3 minutes once I figured out what I wanted.

Yum. Bread is chewy and not overly sweet, perfect amount of toppings. thought the breakfast ones look a little small, but was really the perfect size with a bacon, egg and cheese and sweet cherry to top it off. I was so full i saved the Jalapeno sausage cheddar for lunch. Owners couldn't have been nicer =)

My wife and I decided to try something a little different for lunch today. I had never had kolaches before and after reading the reviews on this place I for sure wanted to give it a shot. After finding the place my wife and I walked in and we were greeting by 2 very friendly people behind the counter. We told them we hadn't been here before they suggested a few items and we decided to try almost all the items on the menu. I got the jalapeno sausage kolaches and the ham and cheese kolaches. I loved the jalapeno one it was just the right amount of spice with just the right sweet bread. The ham and cheese wasn't bad. It just seamed to need a bit more ham after eating that huge jalapeno sausage it just seamed a bit lackluster. My wife got the sausage kolaches and the breakfast one. She really liked the sausage one but she loved the breakfast one she got a side of gravy to dip it in and loved everything about it. She said she would go back just for one of those. All in all a good experience. We will be back for sure!

Fantastic!!! As a Czech girl I was leery but the bread is perfect!!! I recommend the brisket although the cherry/cream cheese was outstanding and more traditional if that is what you are looking for! The man who rang me up was awesome, some of the best customer service I have had! I will be back!!!!

Oh snap! This place is dope 🔥 I had the sausage cheese and egg... Dude let me tell you right now the bread is absolutely delicious! Whole thing was just incredible :-) Then I went back inside and decided to get a second one... I talked with the owner, aka Coach, and ask him what his favorite one was, and he said the jalapeno cheddar... So I'm guessing you already know what I did... I got a second one and I got the jalapeño cheddar :-) dude it was even better than the first one! His stepdaughter Mariah was very knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend this place! This is going to become a staple in my life :-)

Fresh baked just like they advertise. Got some of their homemade hot sauce with my two kolaches: steak egg and cheese and spinach, mozz, and shrimp. Both were fantastic and the hot sauce was great. Looking forward to coming again

I wasn’t sure what to expect because I had never heard of a kolache before, but the kind woman behind the counter explained all of the different varieties. Kolaches are sweet buns filled with either fruit or savory items like meat and cheese. I had the sausage, egg, and cheese with a side of gravy (which was so good I wanted to drink it!) and my partner in crime had the spinach, mushroom, cheese. Both were very unique and a great breakfast. Definitely worth a try!

I tend to be very careful about giving 5 star reviews, but this Coaches definitely deserves one. The bread is absolutely amazing and reminds me of the sweet taste Hawaiian rolls have. The meats taste great inside and the kolaches are a decent price. I brought some home for my wife and she was an instant fan as well. Try this place out.

Finally got to try the infamous Kolaches shop and they did not dissappoint!! I stopped in for a quick lunch and will definitely make this spot a frequent one! I tried the Ham and cheese and Beef sausage, they were both amazing! Next on my list: all the breakfast Kolaches on the menu!! Highly recommend!

Disclaimer: I had never even heard of kolaches before I heard of this place, so this is my only kolache experience. We came in around 1 pm on a Saturday (they close at 2 pm). Coaches Kolaches is a very simple location, with a single display case. It is clean and neat, with a cute chalkboard accent wall that customers and kids can draw and write on. The woman who helped us today asked us if we had ever been in before, and gave us a simple run down of their offerings before we ordered. We got two savory, and one sweet to go. Overall Impression of Kolaches: The bread was very lightly sweet, and super soft without being doughy. I was so skeptical going in, because in pictures they look like they might have a tough crust on them, but they don't. They are supple and delectable. Egg, Bacon, and Cheese: These are smaller than I thought they would be, but they are loaded with goodness. The bacon they use is nice and peppery, and everything melted together beautifully. The ingredients seemed nice and fresh, and it was totally delicious. Jalapeno Sausage: So to be upfront, I am NOT a sausage person, or a hot dog person. They just don't appeal to me unless they've been roasted over a campfire. However, the mister loves them, so we got one to try. I'm really glad we did. I ACTUALLY liked it. A lot. The sausage had a nice "pop" when you bit into it, the jalapeno was present but not overwhelming, and the dough around it wasn't soggy like I would have expected. A++ Blueberry: This reminded me more of a danish, but with softer breading. It was okay, but I think I will stick to the savory ones! This place is a treasure, and we are so happy we tried it. At only $3 a piece, I feel the price point is extremely fair given how tasty and fresh everything was. We plan on returning, and telling everyone we know about how great it was.

Stopped by with my husband today for the first time after reading the awesome reviews and we were definitely not disappointed! Owners were friendly and greeted us as soon as we walked through the door. My favorite staff member was the little gentleman behind the counter who stood knee high to a grasshopper asking us if we would like a drink. This family knows the value of customer service. Between my husband and I we had 2 jalepeno, 1 ham and cheese, and 1 beef and cheese kolaches. The bread was fresh, cheese was super gooey, fillings were flavorful, and the price was totally affordable! My favorite was the jalapeno, it had a very nice kick to it that wasn't over powering. Will definitely be coming back again!

This is a grab and go place, not much of a sitting area. I had the ham and cheese and the jalapeno kolache. The ham was ok, but the jalapeno one was amazing. The bread on both was fresh and sweet. No hard complaints and the owner was friendly and welcoming!

Great little bakery in Clive that makes traditional kolaches. They were EXACTLY what you expect and want from the Czech pastry. Their other bierock/runza-stlye stuffed pastries are also very good and worth the try! The only funny thing is they kind of display Kolache as coming from Texas, which is just where a large contingent of Czech people immigrated to. Nebraska also has an area like this, but with no actual bakeries. Tight parking and a tad tough to get to, but the location in general is great and centrally located from wherever you are in Des Moines. I'll come back next time I'm in town for the night.

I visited Coaches for the first time today, so I grabbed an assortment including sweet and savory. Everyone devoured the kolaches in no time. The bread was super fresh and soft and the fillings were perfect. We will definitely be back.

I am originally from Texas, and when I saw the Coaches Kolaches sign I just knew I had to come in. My two friends and I loved the food. The price is great, and the service is even better! I am so glad that there is now a location in Des Moines! Definitely gonna make this a regular stop!

I was in Clive this afternoon and have heard great things about these kolaches and decided to give it a try. I was immediately greeted on arrival and the options were carefully explained. Since it was nearly lunch I choose three jalapeño sausage and cheddar, a ham and cheese, and two smoked sausage and cheddar to go. Prices were 3-3.50 each which I felt was very reasonable. She informed me to reheat by wrapping in paper towel for 30-60 sec in the microwave. I ate these later in the day after reheating them as directed and holy deliciousness. The bread is soft and delicious with a hint of sweetness. The smoked sausage and cheddar hit the spot. Others recommend purchasing the spicy ketchup to dip it in but in all seriousness, the kolaches need nothing additional to enhance their flavor. I will be back for more.

First time today. Stopped in at 1:00 PM. Tried Jalapeno and Sausage Egg n Cheese Kolaches. To DIE FOR. FAVORITE Sausage,egg, n cheese. Side of gravy n hot sauce. Great hospitatlity, even better food! Showed up close to closing time on Sunday and was warmly greeted by the owner who proceeded to talk my leg off. Super pleasant experience, he even ran out to my vehicle to deliver the gravy for my breakfast kolaches he'd forgot during our chat. I never would have known, but I'm glad he did, the gravy is succulent!!! I'll be back and telling all of my friends!

If you haven't been, GO! This is our favorite on-the-go option in DSM. The breakfast kolaches are our kids' favorite food. Make sure to try the Big Play. Coaches' is just an awesome, LOCALLY-OWNED and OPERATED, joint. Great food, great service, great people.

Love it. My favorite is the sausage jalapeño. They have many options and are super fresh. Price is around $3-$3.50 per piece based on cheese or no cheese. Very reasonable price for amazing kolaches. These are more in the breakfast category....if you want to lunch ...you have to order at least 3...you are looking around $8-$10 range. My 7 yr old loves these kolaches.

Great food great service very friendly staff. Being from Texas I had high expectations having eaten kolaches growing up. Coaches kolaches are amazing and they are better than the ones I ate growing up. The one complaint I always had about kolaches was they were always too small. With coaches I don’t have that complaint anymore! I recommend Coaches to anyone looking for a fast delicious breakfast.

One of very few kolache places that really get the TX style (an elevated version of Klobasnek) savory kolache right. I drive between Wisconsin and TX semi regularly and make a point to stop in, as I know it is the best kolache I'll find for the next 500 or so miles. I would even rate the steak kolache as the best one of that type I've ever had regardless of region. On my first stop in the owner immediately identified me as from TX as he was originally. We talked about moving and missing kolaches up the north, and I commended him for serving a niche that people don't yet know they need filling

Me and my boyfriend took a trip to Houston, TX last month and tried Kolaches for the first time. We fell in love with them and have been craving them ever since. This morning when I happened to drive down Swanson Blvd and caught the word Kolaches out of the corner of my eye my first thought was "certainly these are not Texas style Kolaches". A quick google search confirmed that they are in fact fresh Texas style Kolaches. I went back later this morning and me and my boyfriend were pleased to discover that they are exactly like the Texas Kolaches we have been missing. We were not disappointed.

These are pretty delicious. They make a good and quick snack or light meal. The sausage is more like a fancy hotdog as opposed to a bratwurst or something heavier. The jalapeño one isn’t spicy but has some added flavor.
