A cute little donut shop right near downtown Des Moines. We came late and they didn't have much of a selection. However we ended up getting the apple fritters and they were pretty good even two days later when we finally got around to eating them. I would definitely go back here to try more things. Check it out if you're ever in the area.

I'm surprised this place doesn't have people lined up out the door. Every donut I had was so good! I wish I took pictures. I always get an apple fritter from donut shops and it was the best I ever had! So crispy and it wasn't drenched in glaze- it was the perfect amount. I even saw little pieces of fresh apple in it when I bit into it. Every other donut place I've been to in Des Moines is overrated, in my opinion!

Hands down the best donut shop in Des Moines. I sampled the apple fritter, cronut, maple old fashion, raised, twist, and cinnamon swirl. Each one was fresh and amazing. You are doing yourself a favor by eating here.

We stopped by this no frills donut shop to abandon a New Year’s resolution to cut back on the carbs. It’s a small storefront with a half dozen tables in an area of Des Moines where new residential apartment buildings are popping up, just adjacent to Downtown. We tried the classic glazed, which did not disappoint. The chocolate twist was standard. The cinnamon roll was the fan favorite. Next time we will probably request a filling — like the Bavarian or the white fluffy lemon. 3 donuts and two colas: <$10

Secondhand review from my wife and daughter since I can't eat em (Celiac). They got Bavarian and lemon filled long johns (which are filled fresh when you order), a bear claw, a devil's food, and an apple fritter. The fritter was apparently the best of the batch, even though they raved about all of them.

Very good donuts! I often buy donuts for customers and they are always a hit! The have a variety of specialty donuts and treats. My favorite are the donuts with chocolate chips. Heads up, they are not open on Mondays and close by 2:00pm.

One of the only places I know of in DSM that makes cronuts. They do the basics really well, and now they custom fill long johns and Bismarcks, and my God, there was a ton of Bavarian Cream put in. These aren't your Hyvee/Walmart grocery store donuts, for sure.

I love this place! Everyone is so nice and friendly and there is a huge variety of donuts. If you get a fluff-filled donut, they fill it fresh right there. I've brought in a dozen of their donuts into work several times and people love them. So fresh and delicious! Plus, if you go in early you can get a cronut - which are fantastic.

Nothing like fresh donuts. They aren't overly sweet too. Instead of having the cream sit in the donut, they let you pick out your filling. The staff is friendly. Its anreally cute donut shop. My family won't go anywhere else. I even picked some up for my staff!

Best donuts in town!! I'm a die hard glazed Krispy Kreme donut kinda gal. I tried Kings Donuts when I moved to town and they are pretty good. Hurts Donuts also very good but too sweet and too much fluff on top. I just want a good old donut. ChuChu's got the flavors just right, all I've tried so far have been great I! go out of my way for 2 dozen for my team every month for a treat, also their apple fritters are the best I've ever had! Great service, very clean, a local gem for sure. You will not be disappointed.

One of the best places to get donuts in the metro. I have never had a bad experience here. Also if you ask them they will fill any donut with warm creme. So good! They are reasonably priced and the donuts are big. Go give them a try you won't be sorry.

Chu Chu is the best donut shop in the entire metro, and possibly in the entire state. They're the only place around that makes cronuts, and they do it to perfection every time. Fair warning though: eating one of their cronuts could very well ruin your perception of other, more ordinary, donuts. The best part though? They're local. Support local businesses.

Not quite sure what’s up with all these 5 star reviews? These are *average* donuts, not bad at all, but nothing special. I would put them on the same level with donuts I could get at Hy-Vee or Casey’s. So if you like those, by all means—this is your place. A small saving grace—the cronut was pretty good, but one donut isn’t worth the trip, in my opinion.

Delicious! Deliciosos! I don't know if their Cronut is am original idea but I do know I've never had a donut that good. It's a croissant made like a glazed donut and it tastes like a funnel cake from the Iowa State Fair! They open at 5AM so getting there at 10 AM means they are almost sold out I definitely wouldn't wait until 12 or later to go they close at 2PM. The shop was clean and well organized, and best if all the staff were friendly.

This place is the real deal and we go every weekend. A few things of note, if you choose a Bismarck or Long John there are many options of filling. I recommend white fluffy but variety is the spice of life. They have a drive up window if you don’t want to go in but that requires knowing what you want. For my wife I often choose the blueberry or strawberry twists. The are cronuts are the best I’ve had, and be sure to get a dozen donut holes. Top-secret are usually eat a donut on the way home and don’t tell my wife.

Get more than 3 cronuts, these are life changing. Amazing pastry goodness. Also I love how you can order a bismark or longhorn and while you are there have them fill it with either a fruit filling (cherry, lemon, etc) or the boston-creme custard or frosting of choice. But still... the cronuts are so good. Its layer after layer after layer of croissant, glazed and deep fat fried... just amazing.

Today was my first time visiting Chu Chu's. Omg, cannot say enough good about this place. Their 'cronut'--a hybrid donut/croissant that is like a flaky donut, yet moist and glazed with a slight cinnamon taste--was super awesome. No wonder people rave about these! Also tried a jumbo jalapeno sausage roll--jalapeno sausage inside a large crescent roll w/cheddar cheese--which was absolutely my favorite. I took mine home and microwaved it for 30 seconds...great when warmed up! ChuChu's is definitely worth my return in waiting! I will be back again for more great donuts!

I work in a cubicle farm with a bunch of other donut munchers. With they're lack of ability to convey how much they appreciate another team's work... they buy donuts instead. One day, someone brought these bad boys in and I can honestly say these are the absolute best donuts I've ever tasted. This gem deserves to be on your bucket list. Is your house on fire? throw these donuts at it. In an argument with your wife? Throw these donuts at her. Got someone yacking away while you're trying to rewatch Lord of the Rings for the 5th time? Throw these donuts at em. Got a stain in the floor that just wont go away? Throw these donuts on it... It'll look nicer.

Yes, this place is as good as you have heard. Just dont get the sausage croissant. We thought it was a breakfast item and it's just a croissant with a dry bratwurst in it...it was hard to finish. Just get all the cronuts and you'll be fine.
