My first visit and it did not disappoint. Ordered a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it. It was hot but not too hot. The chicken was tender and it comes with two sides. I got Mac and cheese which was very creamy and good. You can get the sandwich on a bun or a biscuit I chose to get it on a bun cuz I felt it would hold up better. But I got a biscuit as one of my two sides. The biscuit was outstanding very soft tender and excellent. You can tell that they are homemade and have real butter in them. Really enjoyed the meal it was nice to sit down in the restaurant and be served. Our server was outstanding and he was very friendly. I look forward to returning and on the recommendation of the server I might try the extra hot next time. You also could get a sauce on your sandwich which I got the hot honey and that was very enjoyable and also had the sandwich topped with coleslaw which cuts down on the heat of the national hot and was enjoyable. When in the area try this location or there are other location closer into the city but I do highly recommend their sandwich and sides. Just visited again and it was still excellent. Love the biscuits and the sandwich is great and good fries too.

Honestly, the best chicken sandwich I have found. Fries were also top-tier. I enjoyed eating here and would come again. The peach cobbler was a bit more like bread pudding in my opinion, good but unexpected personally. Prices were about $16-$18 for a big meal. I would love it if it was maybe a dollar or so less, with slightly smaller portions though, because I couldn't help eating it all, which was a bit much for me.

I used to work near this place 5 years ago and decided to revisit since it’s been so long. The Nashville chicken sandwich on a biscuit was always my go to. I got the sunrise with chipotle ranch. The biscuit is really good, super fluffy and buttery. Complements the Nashville chicken, egg and bacon really well. Chicken was a little dry but was nice and crispy. It will always be my favorite, 4/5 rating. I also got the 6 piece dark in Nashville flavor. First time trying there bone in chicken and I didn’t like it so much. The chicken itself was crunchy and tender on the inside but the Nashville sauce threw the chicken off for. The Nashville on the bone in chicken makes the chicken black in color and it taste almost burnt. I ended throwing it away because I didn’t like the burnt taste. I recommend not getting it in Nashville and choosing another flavor.

This is my favorite fried chicken in Chicago. Get the Nashville hot level for a house style sandwich on a biscuit. Fries and other sides are tasty too. They used to have 4 locations but 2 of them closed down. Sad to see happen to one of my favorites spots. Hoping this one can stay open for a long time

It was rather delicious; customer service was awful and if I didn’t feel bad for people who work in food service, I wouldn’t have tipped. Besides that, it was a scrumptious sandwich that filled me with euphoria, elation, and utter delight. I will never forget the experience I had when I first took a bite of the sandwich. It was like seeing an angel for the first time. Yes… the Angel Gabriel stretch his hand toward me, imploring me to come with him on a magical journey filled with fun and adventurous things. And that I did, and gladly so, for my taste buds were in Heaven and I honestly believe that eating this sandwich was the first time I really got a feel for what Heaven is going to be like. I don’t think that my wedding day or the births of my children will be more memorable than when I first ate this sandwich. 4/5 stars, bad customer service and the chicken could have been a little better but not by much

Good chicken and fries. The staff is laid back and very nice. Chicken was very good but there are a lot of good chicken places around (daves, chick filet) but this time around, i had a biscuit, and this is definitely where they outshine others. It was the best biscuit I've ever had. Delicious!

Ordered delivery while back visiting Chicago and our entire group was in a food coma afterwards. Everything was amazing and the value for what we got was excellent. We all got the jumbo chicken tenders with fries and Mac and cheese, but next time I would definitely try a biscuit sandwich.

Never disappointed with this place. Everything on the menu is fantastic, the portions are huge, and the vegetarian chicken patty is a great addition for folks with a meat-free diet. You can't go wrong with dine-in or take-out.

This place turns out dinner of the freshest fried chicken this part of town. The menu is limited, but that's good because what they do, they do really well. The Nashville hot is a great saucy number, especially as a breakfast sandwich (c'mon, eggs, bacon and cheese...why not?). The mac and cheese is creamy goodness that blends just the right balance of real and processed cheese (this is a good thing, the way it's done in the south). I'm also a big fan of the peach cobbler. Expect to wait for your food for 15-20 minutes, but if you want to skip the wait at the place, order ahead online or by phone so it's fresh when you arrive. Their new Roscoe location is also really nice to just sit down and relax.

One of the best chicken places in the city. Great portions, delicious brunch options and a relaxed atmosphere. Love their Mac & Cheese, cobbler and the fact that you can actually get sweet tea here. The Southerner in me rejoiced. Hallelujah! Also, if you find yourself wondering if you want your sandwich bun to be a fresh biscuit instead... the answer is YES! Future you will thank you later for saying yes to the biscuit. Get the biscuit.

Food was a delight! I got the sunrise and it was delicious. The biscuits are great and the hot chicken is cooked very well. I got Nashville hot and it was pretty mild. Next time I’ll be going for a bit hotter. The Mac n cheese was just okay. I’d definitely be coming back though!

It was really good! A little pricey, but I am also not used to Chicago prices. The sandwichs and fries are really good, but I did not care for the green beans. I also do not like dill and I think that it was used to flavor them.

What an amazing food experience. Saw this place recommended on the television show Cheap Eats so while my husband and I were in Chicago we decided to go and see if it lived up to the hype. We ordered exactly what the host Ali Khan ate and WOW were we blown away. We are from the south and have still tasted nothing like this back home. Next time we're in Chicago this will be our go-to for breakfast every day.

I don't have much to say here. I had a chicken sandwich with Hawaiian roll house style. Mac and cheese and fries for sides. It was juicy and tasty, but I believe if I get another chance I'll go with the biscuit. Cole slaw was not too mayonnaise-y. Fries suffered from too much time between getting the order and eating it. It's simple, it's good, the basics are all there; but I have a feeling there are more truly original chicken sandwiches out there.

I tried the too Good to Go app and I was very disappointed. Had two servings of macaroni and cheese and three servings of unrecognizable items they ended up in the garbage the purpose was to prevent food from being wasted I don't know who would have eaten this food.

I had lunch with coworkers here. The menu is very small and chicken-centruc! You have the option of how spicy you want your chicken which is a good thing. There are a few side dishes (biscuit, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, cucumber salad and roasted green beans). The prices are mid-range. Service was a smidge slow but doable. I would go back again.

Chicken was amazing! Had it on a homemade buttermilk biscuit with all the toppings (pickles, slaw, and chipotle ranch). If you are looking for a homemade southern-style chicken meal, Roost Carolina is the place to go!

This spot was awesome. I brought in a group of friend for our weekly meal and this place did not disappoint. Our server, Josean, was amazing. He was attentive, helpful, and a really fun guy to be around. The food SMACKED and it was very decently priced. Overall, highly recommend. Get the peach cobbler shake, some mac, and of course chicken. I’d go again expeditiously

OMG! The food here is just amazing! My husband and I just can't stop talking about how everything we ordered was so DELICIOUS! Our (table had 2 types of chx sandwiches, the tenders, mac n cheese, fries, biscuits, chocolate chip bread pudding, sweet tea, and fresh squeezed lemonade. YUMMY x Infinity! The chicken, fries and lemonade are also approved by our toddler. Comfortable family atmosphere with some games for kids and great service. The price was higher than some other options, but twe feel it was an excellent value for the money. We will go here again. Enjoy.

Not sure if they changed the seasoning but the standard was wayyyy spicier than we were used to. Note to the chef: Not everyone likes spicy friend chicken. Being from Georgia, I can tell you it can still be authentic without leaning on the heat

First off, atmosphere was great. It feels very homey. The service was good. You order first then take a seat. The food was hot and delicious. Be careful when it comes to ordering sides, they are very filling, especially the mac n cheese and peach cobbler. They also have very good french fries, nicely brown and seasoned well.

Excellent fried chicken for a great price. We got the big combo meal, way more than enough food for two people for around $30! Incredible. Three sides, and three different pieces of chicken, with two of each piece. The dipping sauces were also really good. I enjoyed the classic. Our order was completed in a timely manner, and the staff working the counter were very friendly. The breading on the chicken was really good; a tad spicy, goo crunch, really added a new flavor to fried chicken I hadn't tasted before. I would go back again, again, and again. No leftovers. Delicious. 5 stars. Highly recommend. Stop your search now.

Excellent food. A little pricey. I had been going to the Irving Park location for years. Always good food. I thought I would try the new Roscoe Village location. I ordered take out. A trendy fella with a beard and glasses asked my name and took my order. He mentioned I could wait in the front of the restaurant and it would be 10-15 minutes. I opted to wait outside since it was a nice day. After about 15-20 min I walked back in. The same trendy guy asked my name again and remembered I was there for pickup. He went back to the kitchen (supposedly to check the status of the order) and came back with no food or update. I proceeded to stand at the entrance while other take out orders were satisfied. After another 15-20 minutes Mr. Trendy again asked me my name. Totally put off, I didn't respond. He then said my name and checked the take out box where the completed orders are kept. Apparently my order was in there the whole time 😠 I went home only to find coleslaw in the bag and no cobbler as I had ordered. I returned to the restaurant and mentioned to Me. Trendy the order was wrong and he said "...let me check the ticket." After looking in the system he said "it says coleslaw on the ticket." To this I replied " You took the order but I never said 'coleslaw' but I did say 'cobbler'". The food is still good, but this order experience was a complete fiasco.

This was phenomenal. I have been to many fried chicken places in the Chicagoland area and this is definitely near the top! I got the House-Style Chicken Sandwich on the biscuit with Nashville Hot seasoning with fries and mac n cheese. Delicious. The chicken was hot and juicy, the biscuit was not dry and had a tinge of sweetness to it. The spice level of the Nashville Hot was good, not too spicy where you’d need a drink, but definitely has a lot of flavor. Price for the food given was very good. I’d highly recommend this place if you’re near Wrigleyville! Definitely will be coming back for more sandwiches and some biscuit mix to take home!

Hands down, this restaurant makes the best chicken sandwich in the city. I loved everything I ordered from their menu. Their biscuits and mac and cheese are also arguably the best I have ever had. Will forever love this place. If you're not getting a fried chicken sandwich on a biscuit, you're not doing it right. And then treat yourself to some peach cobbler, it's crazy good. Been trying to get their Mac&cheese recipe, but they're good at secrets. The staff here is so friendly, and I love that even with a mask, they always remember me. They now have trivia Tuesday nights... So fun.

Overall: Roost continues to hold up as one of the best fried chicken options in the city. The good: This Roost location is on par with the high standards that other locations hold. The chicken is crispy, juicy, and the breading pops with flavor. The biscuits, whether as part of a sandwich or on the side, are fluffy and delicious. The mac and cheese is creamy and a good complement to the chicken. Service is fast and friendly and pickup is a breeze. The not-so-good: The price is relatively high compared to other fried chicken options.

This little place is pretty damn awesome! Heather, our server was great! Really liked her. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich on a biscuit, it was outstanding! My girl got the 1/2 chicken meal which was great too. So simple, but delicious. From the outside, it doesn't look like much, but once you're inside, you won't regret it. Also, if you get the meal, it comes with two sides... how many places do that anymore. Check out Roost Carolina Chicken!

The peach cobbler is not a cobbler at all. It should be renamed as a peach cake. The chicken is a little too spicy for me. But in their defense, I am sensitive to spicy foods. The biscuits are AhMaZing. Can't stop thinking about them.

I had the Ruben chicken sandwich today and it was a perfect combo of flavors. If it wouldn’t kill me I would eat that for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. The food is always great, even when delivered! Update: 8/17 I had the Kimchi-ken, Nashville Hot, on a Hawaiian Roll today...It was another perfect combo of flavors. It was hot, savory, a touch sour, and it came together with little fresh crunch. The sandwich of the week never fails... I can’t wait for next Monday.

The absolute best fried chicken around! I only wish it wasn't THAT good because they are always busy :). Trust me though, it's worth the wait. They've recently expanded, which is great. I've never had a meal here that wasn't incredibly good. You can't go wrong with anything, but I love the spicy chipotle mayo on everything. The slaw is different and super tasty. I always go with the bread pudding as well. Oh, and the mac and cheese....YUM. The menu isn't huge, but I like that. They do a few things and do them well.

They fry every order fresh, and service can be slow on top of that. They might for instance run out of peach cobbler and not start a new one until they're already having to apologize to customers. But it's good food, the spicy chicken is tasty and cooked right. Biscuits are serviceable Southern biscuits, Mac and cheese isn't great but it's very filling. Overall worth a try.

Went their with my family, and we had a combination of tenders and pieces of chicken. Overall very good. The sides were possibly the best part, especially the Mac n cheese. Bread pudding if you have a very sweet tooth. The Nashville spice level tasted good and was quite spicy, but not to the point that it couldn't be eaten.

They've got really good fried chicken. My wife and both got the chicken sandwich which tasted great. The portions were good and the sides all worked really well with the main dish. The "Nashville hot" wasn't as spicy as I'd hoped but it still tasted great.

Awesome fried chicken spot. Highly recommend for any meal - they offer very good weekend brunch options too. All chicken is made to order so expect a wait for the food to come. All the sides I tasted were great - including the mac and cheese, biscuit, and slaw.

Great tea, great atmosphere, great chicken. I went with some friends, they got sandwiches and I got tenders. We tried all three "heat flavors" and all of them were great. The biscuits were melt in your mouth and crumbly without being hard. The mac and cheese was some of the best I've had at a hot chicken joint, and the sweet tea was sweet enough without being sickening. I will definitely find myself here again.

So let me start by saying I loved this place, and their fried chicken, and it’s still incredible. Loved it soooo much. I almost felt bad cashing in on the punch cards I would accumulate. But the major difference now is their staff, which is a sad change. The bartender was rude at best, and apparently they don’t let you eat in anymore if you order from the counter. She also apparently was too busy playing on her phone to help us for 15 minutes, which sucked. Kind of lame. Super sad. The food is still incredible, but get it to go or carry out. Got it to go carry out again, god this food is good. Best fried chicken in the city, and their bread pudding is absolutely perfect too.

The room is perfect for families. The prices are shockingly reasonable for the neighborhood. And the food? The regular spicy chicken sandwich is delicious. The Nashville hot on a biscuit with coleslaw on it? I want to be buried under that flavor. Booze is another plus. Oh, your veg and vegan friends should sit this one out, though. Their options are sides, albeit delicious ones.

Guys, this isn't good, I can't stop eating here. Their Tacos are so good, I can't try anything else. They make everything from scratch for each order, giving you time to enjoy the atmosphere and friends. They always have a solid movie playing, and games. The boozy shakes are top notch too, if you save enough room. Also usually not a big Mac&cheese fan but theirs has so much gooey flavor I need it every time.

I never really liked fried chicken until I had roost. It's amazing. Whenever my dad visits from the east coast, this is the place we have to go before he leaves. They've expended since I last went which means they have actual table service now. There's also a bar, apparently. They used to have a pal with checkers at every table but now have a shelf/game station with many different board games available.

Was in town for the Music Box of Horrors 2019, and decided to try The Roost for a big breakfast beforehand. They have southern comfort food down pat; juicy fried chicken, biscuits, gravy, and crispy, salty american fries. The service was quick and attentive. They were all decked out for Halloween when we went - always a good sign. Highly recommended if you're looking for some down-home eats.

The chicken was terrific. Just the perfect amount of spice. The seasoning on the tacos was awesome. The wait was long; at least they told you long the wait was going to be before you ordered. The music was too loud to carry in a decent conversation. I would go back again.

First and foremost, the food (5 stars) was awesome! I had the hillbilly chicken tacos and my brother had an amazingly flavorful chicken sandwich. Like I said, the food was more than great but, that's about all I have nice to say about this place. The wait was almost an hr and our waitress (0 stars) seemed to be much more interested in her boss than the service she was providing. Miss Lauren was draping herself over him like an old overcoat and giggling at every word he said. I feel that it was extremely UNPROFESSIONAL and just plain rude. We were in chi-town on a mini vaca and were super excited to check out the food at this place, we had heard so many wonderful things about. It's unfortunate that out "waitress" ruined it for us, because we will likely not return next time we're in town. Just watching her behavior made us uncomfortable and I could tell other patrons noticed and felt the same way too. When she wasn't falling all over him, she was way more interested in the way her hair looked than she was with her customers. We had planned to order some carryout for my husband but, decided to stop someplace else, as we didn't want to deal with her any longer. In fact , the one time she actually did come to our table... She was too busy obnoxiously flirting with my brother to even ask how I was doing. Someone needs to explain proper etiquette to this girl... As she was behaving like some sort of cat in heat!

What a great place! I came across here before heading to an event in the neighborhood and I'm glad I did. This seems like a simple OTC sandwich/BBQ joint, but it's much more appealing. Simply the Best! On my first visit to Roost I was absolutely blown away. The flavors were completely different from what is expected from fried chicken. Sweet, Spicy, Honey, Yummy, and Delicious. Several years ago, I came here on a dark and stormy night searching for a quick bite to bring home. Although the food wasn't quite quick--everything else absolutely exceeded my expectations. Since then, the Roost has become my go-to place to bring friends, family, coworkers, and even significant others. Yes, I went here on date. There was no second date but at least I got some bomb chicken out of it. There is a full bar with a nice selection of craft beers, boozy shakes, and everything in between. My recommendation: Get their chicken sandwich on a biscuit (not a bun). For sides, try the mac and cheese with peach cobbler. If you can handle the spice, get the Nashville hot otherwise, I recommend the intermediate "spicy" flavor which in all honesty isn't that spicy.

I got the hillbilly taco meal, which was quite good. Each one consisted of a large chicken tender with cucumber slaw on a tortilla. Along with the amazing biscuit and chocolate chip bread pudding (not the healthiest options, but I didn't go to Roost for health food), it was a bit more than I could eat. The added bonus - my kids eat free on Monday. Not sure if this is all locations, but that's the current deal at the Irving Park restaurant. A couple of my kids are extra picky and considered the salt and pepper seasoned, extra mild chicken to be spicy, but my 2 year old devoured it. Once they figured out they could take off the seasoned breading, put the chicken in the biscuit with some honey, they stopped complaining.

After a couple amazing lunch and dinner experiences finally found time to enjoy a breakfast meal. Equally as delicious!! Exceptional morning service as well - very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Finally one small critique though, which staff was happy open and willing bto hear, is that maybe get real plates for breakfast sandwich with gravy. Otherwise gravy soaks paper and you end up eating small pieces of paper with meal. Can't have that. Food and service here is good as it gets.

I visited The Roost with a small group of friends on a Friday evening. Though it was busy service was quick, friendly and we got a table in little to no time. The food wasn’t underwhelming but it was nothing to write home about either. It all was just okay. Two friends ordered the heater, one was on a biscuit the other one was served on a brioche roll. I got BYO with Nashville Hot, pickles, coleslaw and cheddar cheese. Also on the table where green beans, Mac and cheese, chocolate chip bread pudding and peach cobbler. The Heater was spicy initially then after a few bites the heat was gone and all the flavors melted together instead of playing off of one another. A friend said the biscuit wasn’t flaky but doughy with a tough exterior. My Nashville got sandwich was meh. The bun were cold as well as the cheese. The coleslaw was watery and the chicken was not that spicy. The Mac and cheese was the best part of the meal. I’ve never had spectacular Mac and cheese at a restaurant but this one was decent. The bread pudding was dense, all you can taste were the chocolate chips. None of us wanted to finish it thought the peach cobbler was delicious. The topping was more spongy than I’m use to but it was damn good. All in all The Roost is aight. I understand why people love it so much. It’s a southern comfort that people in the neighborhood aren’t use to. I’m not sure if it could stand on its own two legs in the place where hot chicken originated.

I realized tasting like chicken was a good thing. 'Cause the meat on these sandwiches are so flavorful. I hadn't realized all the other chicken I was eating was bland. You won't regret this place, I've been telling people to go since I ate there. I ordered the spicy sandwhich with the creamy Mac 'n cheese, peach cobbler and a Mexican coke. The peach cobbler was good. I found myself wanting something like coffee or anything really to cut the sweetness as I ate it, but other than that the meal was flawless.

First timers. My girlfriend and I enjoyed this place a lot. It has a nice at home atmosphere. Has a full bar and seating for groups, or 2. Not a large place but cozy. Board games, connect 4, Uno, etc in bin to pass time before your meal. Simple menu, chicken. Bone in, tenders, or sandwich. No fries. Sides are good. Homemade chips, Mac and cheese, cucumber Cole slaw, etc. Chicken sauce is excellent either way you go. I had the hottest they had to offer. It was perfectly done. It was hot, but not this is scalding my taste buds hot. Chicken meat is thick and moist. Perfectly done. Our waitress was very pleasant and made us feel welcome. I can't say enough about our experience, but this is a place we will return to! One of our favorite places now. We'll make the trip.

My favorite chicken spot. Bar none. They forgot my mac and cheese once, but I’m not even mad. Chicken is a 12/10, sides are all 10/10. And now they serve beer, shakes and mixed drinks? Just take my money. If you live nearby and don’t try this place you’re doing a disservice to yourself. EAT THIS CHICKEN! Do yourself a favor and order online and call ahead during peak hours, the wait can be long sometimes. Better to walk in, grab you chicken and run while those in line watch in envy. The chicken is worth the wait anyway.

Simple selections, reasonably priced, and surprisingly good food. I got to try the chicken sandwich and the spicy chicken tenders and both were juicy, well-cooked, and fried in a quality, tasty breading. The mac and cheese has a tex-mexy flavor to it which grew on me, and it's super creamy. The peach cobbler was phenomenal and the biscuit had a soft, fluffy, buttery texture. I do have to complain about the service though. I placed my order ahead of time and was told it would take 20 minutes (despite noticing when I arrived that there's a chalkboard sign claiming a 15-minute wait). I arrived twelve minutes later, but didn't leave with my order for another 22 minutes. All told, it took Roost 34 minutes to make my order (I doubted the other reviewer who said it took them a long time to fulfill the order, so I took a screenshot of my call history with Roost as soon as they handed me my food. It was 37 minutes after the call, which lasted for 3 minutes--although apparently I can't add that screenshot). Edit 10/21/17: I've been back four more times now because I enjoyed the food so much the first time, and I swear it gets better every time. I also haven't had the service issue I had that first time. So I'm bumping this from 3 to 5 stars. I love this place.

My girlfriend suggested checking out The Roost while we were up in Ravenswood, mentioning that it was one of her favorite places to go to when she used to work in the area. She said it was a very small, casual restaurant and that we might have a short wait because there were not many seats. To her surprise, The Roost had actually expanded into the real estate next door - adding a bar, TV's, and extra seating. I thought the place looked cool with their interesting medley of chairs. For lunch, we decided to split a spicy chicken biscuit sandwich with the creamy mac & cheese and bread pudding on the side. I also ordered one of their boozy chocolate milkshakes, which I forget name of now. One bite in, I knew I had found a new favorite restaurant! The buttermilk biscuit will make your mouth water and all of their sides are rich with flavor. The boozy milkshake was the cherry on top to a perfect meal (no pun intended). I have honestly never been more satisfied! I will be making a special trip up to the North side, just so I can enjoy The Roost again.

Best juicy tender fried chicken I have ever had. You may order mild, spicy or extra hot. You may order 1/4 chicken or 1/2 chicken, dark or white or mixed chicken pieces. The sides are wonderful. This is a casual place. Wooden picnic tables, a roll of paper towels on the table, plastic forks and plastic knives. Most important they offer delicious fried chicken. Pick up the chicken from the paper basket and eat with your hands. Enjoy.

Very limited menu and options for your meal. They do not have mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, and the only cheese they offer is cheddar (At $1 per slice premium for a super thin slice). Also no grilled options if you have someone in your party who needs a lighter meal. I had the spicy sandwich with all the toppings, mac n cheese, and peach cobbler. It was pretty decent but nothing spectacular, and i thought the $10.50 price without a drink or that magical cheese slice was kinda hefty for what i got. My poor friend that wanted the grilled chicken with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and swiss......well they ate what was brought to them but just wished they could have had a nice homemade regular chicken sandwich.

Completely unhealthy, definitely worth the calories, fried chicken joint. The buttermilk biscuits (the owner's grandmother's recipe) are a must try. The Roost started out as a food truck and they now have the truck and this small, order at the counter restaurant. Seating is family style and the vibe is very friendly. As a bonus, when you go there, you are supporting a small, local business!
