Reviews of Charleston Bread

Charleston Bread is a lovely local business! Conveniently located near Capitol Market, it's right by downtown Charleston. The store smells absolutely delicious as soon as you walk in. They offer loaves of bread, cookies, bagels occasionally, and other baked goods. Everything I've had from Charleston Bread has been fresh and delicious. I highly recommend everyone stop in here!

Finally stopped by this local bakery, I don't think I'll buy bread from the supermarket ever again. Pictured is their Blue Monday loaf(soft, buttery and sliced in the store), three types of their bagels (plain, salted, and poppy seed), and not pictured was a cheese Danish and a raspberry cream cheese Danish that we sampled when we got to the car, they were buttery sweet and flaky, the homemade raspberry jam is something special. #amazing
They open at 7am most days, I would stop by early before they sell out. I've never seen a bakery so full of customers at 4pm.

Stopped in this afternoon, bought a few of my favorites sweets and bread and then brought home some of Mark’s pesto and pasta. Dropped it a skillet added a glass of wine… and it’s a perfect meal! Love the bakery!!!

Sourdough bread is wonderful. Foccacia bread is absolutely delicious. Crunchy on the outside, light, fluffy and chewy on the inside with a buttery flavor. The loaves are round. The only way to improve on this bread would be more bubbles and a flat, square loaf to be able to use for sandwiches. Everything we've tried here is delightful.

Charleston Bread is simply one of the best bakeries I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries. The selection is ever-changing, with something new to try every time I visit. Whether you're looking for a classic loaf of bread, a flaky croissant, or a decadent dessert, Charleston Bread has it all.
Overall, I can't say enough good things about Charleston Bread. It's the perfect place to go for a delicious and satisfying treat, whether grabbing something on the go or sitting down for a leisurely breakfast. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone in the area. You won't be disappointed!

First off this place smells amazing 🍞🥖😌We tried the honey wheat, sourdough, baguette, and chocolate croissants. They were all amazing!! We’ll definitely be back soon! 🙂 …
John Lockhart
Love this place. Never know what you will find in any given day and everything I have tried has been great. Latest haul was olive levain and chullah. Both excellent. If you catch em in stock there are pastries and cakes.
Jennifer Bunner
Always fresh! Best to stop in early before they run out of your favorites! I treated myself to a scone today.
Jennifer Smith
One of my favorite bakeries on the planet, and I'm not even from Charleston anymore. The bread rotates and every offering is exquisite. The cookies are some of my favorite ever--especially the trail mix, which are easily in my top five cookies of all time. I am never disappointed and always stop at least once when I'm in Charleston.
Carrie Samuels
I love this place. The Charleston Sourdough has to be one of my favorites. The cookies are delicious. And if you can catch them the Almond crescent rolls and the black current scones are amazing!!! If you're in Charleston and want some good freshly baked bread I highly recommend this place!!!
Todd Ellis
This place is so AWESOME, best breads in Southern West Virginia bar none. So happy they are still open and thriving, their breads are something different a very special treat. I LOVE this place, plus it's only 2 miles from my home which is HUGE. It doesn't matter which loaves you purchase they're all GRRRREAT!! My favorite the Olive Levain is off the chain. I not only HIGHLY recommend Charleston Bread I can't imagine buying bread anymore from anywhere else.
Kera Morris
I feel so bereft having not been going to this bakery my whole life. Their sourdough is a new household staple. I share their scones and pastries with coworkers, who are deeply impressed. Marry me, Charleston Bread. Toasted country bread with butter is a religious experience.
Grant Morris
Best bakery around. Bread is amazing, service is great. I'd show a picture but I ate it all on the way home.
Brady Campbell
A gem in downtown Charleston. I love to stop by and pick up a loaf of my favorite bread or breakfast danish. The place smells amazing and my mouth begins to water as soon as I pull up outside. This is also a great place to take your kids because it exposes them to how foods are actually made. It also is a great opportunity to teach them about the different ingredients in bread, the chemical reactions that occur in the prep and baking process, and a neat history and geography lesson leading to the creation of each unique bread type. Did I mention that I like bread? Anyway, the cheese bread is amazing for lunch paninis.
Angela Stewart
The sourdough bread makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches and the trail mix cookies are SO good!!
Allison Shumate
Cannot leave town without a stop at Charleston bread. Focaccia is delicious and the chocolate croissants if you can get one before they run out!
Ian Rahman
An absolute gem of Charleston. But if I tell you exactly why I go here, frequently, I’m afraid they’ll sell out faster.
This is the best bakery in Charleston, and perhaps West Virginia. Some of their goods beat even my favorite local spots in major metropolises elsewhere in the country.
Erika Comdohr
How have I not been here sooner?! The best bread in Charleston! Youll definitely know right when you walk in that this place is bread heaven. The staff is so sweet and helped us pick out the seeded sourdough bread which was amazing. But the scones... omg. Their chocolate chip scones are my new favorite. Lots of cookies, muffins, and slices of cake as well. They also have homemade pasta in the side fridge which I'll definitely be going back for!
Petir Abdal
Bread is good. However the employees park in the best spots everyday (not very customer centric), their posted menu is a lie half the time. Usually hear "its not out yet". either start earlier like every other bakery in the world or update the list as stuff is available. Bagels are for breakfast and they don't come out until 11?
Linda Brown
First time there yesterday because I heard they have olive bread on Fridays. They were so nice, even sliced the loaf for me. It is the most delicious thing I've ever tasted! Know where I will be on Friday mornings!
James Mitchell
A real JEWEL!!! Their baked good are absolutely the best around. You have to get their peanut butter cookies, they are the best and the bread......oh my but its fabulous.
Amy Weintraub
Every time I visit my former city of Charleston, WV, I make a point of stopping by Charleston Bread Company to pick up some loafs of the best bread ever. 100% dependable goodness. Such a treasure!
Cheryl Gwinn
Charleston Bread 🥖 the smell welcomes you before the employees do. There are every kind of bread, pizzels, cookies, brownies, sweet rolls, muffins and many more baked goods waiting to be devoured.
The staff are so kind and helpful even allowing my dog to come in.
The bakery is cozy with decor that adds to this aromatic and warm environment.
I ordered the cinnamon raisin bread which was melt in your mouth delicious.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of tasting these succulent bakery items come on by you won’t be disappointed.
laura moore
Such I good find in Charleston! Going in the morning when everything is baking, it’s HARD to makeup your mind as to what to get. Everything looks and smells so good. I’ve never been disappointed on any of my selections. If you’re wanting chocolate croissants, go early; they are worth it!!
Nick Schaer
Best bakery in West Virginia, bar none. As soon as walk in the door the wonderful smell of home cooked bread fills the air. The work horse is their Charleston Sour Dough loaves. Crispy crust and wonderful soft goodness. But their specialty loaves are also amazing. Always an amazing selection of cookies and other tempting pastries. The staff is always friendly and courteous. I love this place.
Farhan Ahmed
Always fast and friendly service. Everything made here is spectacular.
nelia mata
Their Danish and croissants are really good.
Kelly Greathouse
Some of the best baked goods in the area. My husband's co-worker recommended we try them out, and I'm so glad we did.
We've been coming here the past few weeks and have not been disappointed! I highly recommend their Cinnamon Raisin bread, Sourdough Bread, and the Bialys.
If you have a sweet tooth, pick up some of their peanut butter cookies or their meringues.
Alice White
They have the best fresh bread ever. I always restock for the family when I am in town. My family craves their cookies.
Coleman Mullins (cDubya)
This place is amazing. The selection is always top notch, and it is always fresh. A little pricey, but its next to the Capitol Market, so that is to be expected. The bread, though. My goodness. There is a braided one with ginger and honey that is one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Bob Matson
This is a small, locally-owned bakery in downtown Chareston, West Virginia. Be sure to check the chalkboard for the daily specials. The cookies were delicious, and the bread is made every day.
Francis Fisher
Charleston Bread is the best bread store & bakery in town. The service is terrific and their breads are to die for. Have I mentioned a perfect crust? Yes! Bread with a real crust ...I think you'll enjoy their products as much as I do. Hopefully!
Dawn Combs
IMO the best bread in America! So many different varieties, and they rotate the selections from day to day. We are so lucky to have them in Charleston, WV!
The owners also operate Ristorante Abruzzi, a very good Italian Restaurant at the Power Park Ball Park, just a few blocks away. Their pastas are made from scratch.
Sarah Fox
Good local bakery
Enjoying Christmas Stollen
James Kelley
We buy most of our bread here, and never waste a single slice! They will slice your loaf when you buy it, keeping it fresh and good. I tend to buy a couple loaves on Friday or Saturday, because they are closed on Sunday and Monday.
Will Christen
Excellent baked goods and breads. Reminds me of a bakery from home that also inspired the owners and head baker. The peanut butter cookies and scones are my favorite. The menu changes based on the day of the week.
C. G.
This was my first time visiting this place and I will be going back! I purchased a cinnamon roll and it was AMAZING!! I would highly recommend this place.
Danielle Johnson
What can I say? Everyone knows that Charleston bread sells a superb product. We are spoiled. Charleston Bread could easily withstand and surpass the competition in any large east coast city.
Judith Talbott
At this time you must wait outside as only 1 person permitted in the small store. There is also a curbside pickup available. Still the best bread in town!
Derric Capteina
Amazing bagels, even when they're a day old and frozen. They must be bagels witches. Sadly they don't sell cream cheese to take away.
Bang Main
Try the Parmesan scones...try the croissants, try the Charleston sour dough. That's to start! Then try everything else, I'm never disappointed. Lovely ladies and great service.

Today was the first time I had ever stopped into the Charleston Bread Company on Capitol Street in Charleston.
It's located down at the end near the Farmer's Market in the old Charleston Train Depot (Historical Site)
The store is simple yet inviting on the outside. Inside very simple and bare
There is several employees that you can see hard at work doing their needed task to make this amazing bread!! The aroma is delicious in its own right...who doesn't enjoy the smells of baking bread....my nostrils are perking up sending happy endorphins to my brain....within seconds I'm in my own grandmother's kitchen!!!
I was greeted by very sweet and helpful employee. I explained it was my first visit and she gladly answered my questions. I purchased a loaf of Charleston Sourdough (wheat) and looked over the homemade Pastas and Pesto and said my goodbyes!
Immediately outside of shop, I quickly dove into my bag to sample my purchase... definitely going back!! Even without butter or heat, this bread was superb.....can't wait until my next purchase next week!!!
