Reviews of Flour Bakery + Cafe
The food here is hella good and a great value. There are a lot of options from breakfast sandwiches to wraps and salads. All the pastries are superb. The bread is awesome and the food is fresh. The coffee and tea are of great quality. It is also a good spot to come and get a little work done.
Stopped by here like 2 hours before closing and they were out of sticky buns so I settled for a sticky bun bread pudding and a blondie. Both of these items were alright but they were served cold which is why I’m giving this place 4 stars. It would’ve been so much better had it been served hot
We walked in for a couple of desserts and Flour Bakery did not fail to impress us.
The triple chocolate mousse and chocolate cream pie were rich and stood out on its own 🥧
The brown sugar almond meringue had an interesting flavor profile and it just melts in your mouth ❤️
Would personally go there again😍 and recommend it to all of you.
The Cubano had a lot of ham, crunchy pickles, and flavorful mustard. All the flavors combined well. One of the best Cubanos I've ever tasted. The cupcake with the blackberry frosting was very good. Flour had run out of the lemon-lime soda that is used to top off the raspberry seltzer so they offered to top off with ginger ale. The Flour Bakery at this location on Washington Street in the South End was the first one and still the best.
I love flour café! It’s probably one of my favorite cafes and bakeries in Boston! They have wonderful coffee, matcha, and food selections from sandwiches to salads to bakery items! They have locally made almond milk and oat milk as options for nondairy drinks and quite a few selections of bakery items for different allergens. I frequent they are often.
Flour can be a place for your daily coffee, a celebration, or just because. It really will fill your heart with joy! I recently celebrated a friend’s birthday with their vanilla cupcakes with salted caramel icing and they were a hit. People absolutely adored them! I haven’t found anything from Flour to disappoint.
Tried the coconut cream pie. Was great. Reached there after 1 pm on Saturday morning, so they were out of sticky bun and Boston cream pie.
delicious! great takeaway system & great food. pastries are delicious and so are sandwiches. one of my favorite flour locations in the city!
I visit this place whenever I’m in Boston. The coffee is perfect, the pastries are delicious. You MUST try the almond croissant 🥐
The environment is very good and welcoming. You can sit outside and enjoy your break/breakfast or grab your food and head out.
Everything I’ve tried yet has been great.
So yummy!! Just went the other day and their selection for food, baked goods, and beverages are all amazing! Love the atmosphere as well. Just an all-around cute cafe/bakery. Gotta say, the scones are out of this world! Hoping I can hit this place up on my future visits to Boston :D
Absolutely love this place! I visit whenever I'm in Boston. The food is fresh and seasonal, the drinks are solid, and the atmosphere is just delightful. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered, but would especially recommend their sandwiches and cakes.
Our favorite bakery and Cafe in Boston. Their sandwiches are always unique and interesting, although the roast beef is our go-to for the crispy fried onions on top. The bakery items rotate but are always top quality. And while you're there, you can pick up signed copies of Joanne Chang's cookbooks, so that's a nice bonus!
A bit crowded but totally worth it... obviously that's why it's crowded ;) I got the Chai Latte which was very yummy and the boyfriend got a coffee which he was pleased with. The oatmeal cookies were very good as well!
Lots of places to choose for a great pastry, healthful sandwiches and soups, and coffee! Life in Boston is sweeter because of Flour. Don’t miss one of their convenient locations. ❤️
I love Flour Bakery, like they are really the gift that keeps on giving. 🙌🏾 I first tried Flour with a friend about 5 years ago and was introduced to the best pumpkin pie I’d had to date. More recently I’ve been eating them more because my job orders from them often and I have some new favs to add to my list: the rice krispie treat makes me sooo happy, the applewood smoked bacon sandwich pressed is dangerously good (plus they are generous with the bacon), and the current quiche of the day with bacon, caramelized onions and goat cheese is delightful with every bite into the fluffy goodness. Flour, if you’re looking for brand ambassadors or testers for future additions, here I am 👋🏾 I’m interested in trying the hummus sandwich and shrimp caesar next 😋
Flour is one of those chic small cafe bakery type places while being in a variety of different locations throughout Boston. The food and service are great here even if the seating is limited.
Incredible bakery! They have a wide selection of food and drink options. For food, a big selection of sweet and savory baked goods - the sticky buns are out of this world. Also egg sandwiches and other hot food made to order. Lots of coffee drinks to go with the baked goods. A must do when in Boston, highly recommend!
i went for lunch today ,i had the roast chicken sandwich and it was fantastic , every one in my group said there sandwichs is the best .
also , we had coffee there , and also its great .
you can feel the people working there care for what they put in front of you .
the staff are super friendly and helpful .
will go there for sure many times again .
Food and service always excellent. Amazes me how consistent the quality is. Our go to place for sure. At least once a week we go
Lovely little cafe! Food/drinks were good and staff were courteous and friendly.
A very nice little bakery and coffee place.. Sandwiches are delicious, cakes are fine.. But why extra charging to toast a sandwich? nonsense!
A nice little Coffee/Bakery shop with a little patio outside. I ordered a Cappuccino that it was prepared on point and a delicious avocado toast. The staff was quite friendly and professional and the service very quick. It would have been nice however if they could clean the patio a bit more frequently.
We had a delightful visit to Flour on a late Sunday morning. They had a yummy smoked salmon sandwich special that had a perfectly crisp multigrain bread and a balance of arugula and lemon to compliment the salmon. The scone with clotted cream and jam had a great crumble and filling ratio. This location was busy but manageable to get a table.
Delicious breakfast shop in Boston! We got the french toast and breakfast sandwich, both of which were excellent. I also got a mocha, which was very rich (a smaller size might be a better choice). The shop is busy and a little crowded, but not too loud. Highly recommend on a cold winter day.
As a former south end resident, this was one of my favourites. It was a block away from the corner of Rutland and Shawmut ave, where I lived. Dropped in today during a weekend trip to Boston and I have to say the food is simply delicious! The lemon and ginger scone and lamb sandwich just left my mouth wanting more. Great atmosphere and good service. Fully worth the extra bit I walked from back bay just to get some food here!!!
I just love Flour! They have this vegan chocolate muffin which is just amazing! They also have a lot great sandwiches. There is a little wait time but you usually off in no time or you can grab a sit and enjoy your breakfast or lunch.
Check out their seasonal spring menu! So many great options. The spiced lamb toast blew is away. It felt hearty, yet fresh and light
Awesome bread and really good croissants. This bakery reminds me a lot of a French bakery. I did a 40 minutes commuter trip on a rainy day just to taste their bread. Sadly, it’s too far away from where I live. They should sell some bread to local groceries and shops so we can reach out to their products more easily and they’ll still be doing good in business. Oh and their chocolate croissant taste like authentic ones.
Great lunch spot. They’ve messed up my vegetarian breakfast sandwich multiple times though :( friendly staff. Clean. Great selection
Flour is awesome. Their mochas are fantastic, I know I can always count on them to be delicious. The breakfast egg sandwich is also a totally delight. Those two items together make for a tasty treat. Not to mention the people who work here are efficient and helpful.
We got breakfast here while visiting from out of state. Great decision, highly recommend. I will be forever dreaming about those Blueberry and raspberry pop tarts until I visit Boston again!
Fast and friendly service. Quite pricey for the sandwiches. Unfortunately they mixed something up with my order but found a solution quickly. Sometimes it can get crowded, in summer, I suggest going to the lovely park close by.
Ever since it opened years ago, Flour Bakery is a must go to place in the Boston area. The pastries and coffee are ultra delicious and affordable considering it's location, Boston's South End
Best cinnamon rolls are here !!!
Love this place so cute to come study or hang out with friends! They have the best bakery items and drinks! I have not tried their sandwiches yet but it always smells so delicious so I am eager to try them next time! Staff is always super helpful and friendly! Great vibes overall!
I drank such a good matcha latte! And an amazing fruit juice, as well as a great chocolate chip cookie. Everything tastes amazing and of such good quality, the service is very nice and the bakery is so pretty!! Congratulations
The place has a good atmosphere; clean and healthy pastry and coffee.
Best bakery in the South End, probably in Boston. Highly recommend the pop-tarts, banana bread, breakfast sandwich, avocado toast, salads, and tomato soup. Also great to support a woman and minority-owned small business!
Their pecan sticky buns are out of this world and made me realize that I actually love pecans. I work close by and every time a coworker brings anything from Flour to celebrate an event, it makes my week. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!
One of my absolute favorite places in Boston!! Highly highly recommend this one.
The taste is something kind of wonderful and dangerous for your wallet. I recommend starting with the breakfast sandwich and sticky bun a guaranteed delight and addiction for any new comers. Service is always pleasant and the space is clean and neat. In truth the only struggle is finding parking but well worth it!
Nice decoration, lots of employees, good range of pastries. They also have bread as the name suggests.
i come here once a week and leave happy every time! i normally get the breakfast egg sandwich and a fiery hot cocoa which i would suggest to anyone. i found this place because i was told that it has the best chocolate cake in all of boston (it was delicious, and now i am willing to try anything from here!) my mother visited and became obsessed with the sticky buns and now gets one every time she visits. sign up for the birthday newsletter as well!
Consistently good these days.. they can be stressed but they try their best and the result is usually excellent
First time here. Wanted to try from recommendations from others and was impressed. I already had dinner so ordered a slice of blueberry pie at the suggestion of the server there. The pie was delicious. Also loved the location near the local neighborhood with plenty of families walking about in the evening. Gives a small town feel in the big city. Next one will try a sandwich.
Addendum: Got a turkey sandwich the next day. It was fantastic! Enjoyed the subtle favors mixed in with the turkey. And the bread was amazing with all the special whole grains. One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. There was a line when I came to pick up but did not have to wait because ordered ahead online. Filling but not stuffing. Highly recommended!
Great little menu that tastes amazing. The cakes, muffins, pies, and other sweets are to die for.
One of my favorite spots. Everything they make is great. They'll warm up baked goods for you if you ask. :) They are very fast moving and busy. Indoor seating is pretty limited (one large table and several tiny ones) so if you're in a group of 3 or larger, taking something to go may be your only option. They have outdoor seating as well, depending on weather.
Flour is always a fantastic experience for lunch, breakfast, or a snack. The roast beef sandwich is amazing, and the egg sandwich is fantastic as well. The stick bun is the desert that they are known for, but all of their deserts are wonderful. I prefer the Chunky Lola cookie. If you do get the sticky bun, be sure to ask for it to be heated. The only problem with this place is that it’s so popular and indoor seating is limited.
The staff here are the best. They are always friendly, patient and willing to answer any questions. They're desserts are to die for and their food is good. I love their lemonade and the variety of flavors they have (limited and seasonal though.) Water is free and prices are a little on the high end but you get what you pay for. Lastly, lunch time here is crazy so I would recommend downloading their app and ordering ahead during peak times.
Wonderful variety of fresh baked goods.
Best bake goods.and it always stops make my day and whatever I stomach like like a rock either...
ANY food i eat there is light, fluffy , and delicious
I have been frequenting flour bakeries for years. I remember when this location was the only one! I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered.
I particularly love their cookies, mini tarts and their specials are usually very tasty as well. The infamous sticky bun lives up to its name.
I love their seltzers. The raspberry one is great. They do decent espresso drinks and have good coffee.
They do get quite busy but everyone is very upbeat and moves the line along quickly. You may have to wait a while for sandwiches and prepared food but its clear they are working as fast as they can. Just avoid high traffic times but anticipate the wait. Seating is usually not a problem
I have heard great things about their carrot cake and cannot wait to try it.
I still am up in the air about my favorite Flour location. They all have different vibes. They are all great!
Definitely should be a part of any Boston Trip
You can never go wrong with the raspberry seltzers. And the sandwiches are outstanding. I try to stay away from the desserts because I would just eat all of them. Despite it always being packed, the line moves quickly and service is super-friendly.
Very good food, pastries, etc as we have to come to love Flour for! This is one of their smaller locations so seating was definitely an issue - if you come on the weekend make sure to come early or plan on take-away.
Oddly they don’t have soy milk anymore..
Quiche of the day was amazing, as was the chocolate chip cookie!
I went here for the first time a week ago. Their lunch menu is delicious. I'm always a fan of a lunch spot that offers fresh baked bread for their sandwiches, fresh ingredients and outstanding pastries for a sweet finish to start the second half of the day.
I absolutely plan to come back for coffee and breakfast on a lazy Sunday.
Only negative would be that it can get a little crowded but they keep the line moving efficiently.
Flour is the best local bakery! Everything is good -- I lived near this one for years and I've tried most of the menu. Also check out Joanne Chang's cookbooks and her restaurant down the street, Myers + Chang.
The pastries were really good, but a little on the pricier side.
Love the pecan bun and salads here. The kitchen is rather open so I can always see how stacked and beautiful the sandwiches are. Heard great things about the quiche. I gain a fair bit of pleasure by simply looking at the freshly baked goods.Despite sweets and pastries, it has a healthy selection and a few daily specials. Seating is great with large glass windows for optimized sunlight.
Yes, the line is often long, but the food is delicious. They have some incredible cakes (I love the carrot cake, but get a little sick trying to finish a whole one -- worth it!) and the cupcakes are pretty good. I've only ever gone to get a cup of coffee and a delicious pastry by myself, but it seems like a great place to sit down with a friend and have an afternoon tea-type conversation. Anyone want to go with me? :)
I went for the first time today and I ordered a chicken avocado sandwich and it was so delicious 🤤. I also ordered a brown sugar almond merengue and it was also so good I definitely need to come back asap. …
Breakfast sandwich is the way to go! Their coffee isn't amazing, but not the worst either. It seems like a good place to hang out for a bit. I stayed for an hour and did not feel unwelcome at all! It was fuller at times, but not never crowded. It's a relaxed atmosphere.
Amazing as always. This is the coziest of all the flour bakeries in the city. It’s small so don’t come assuming you’ll get a seat but it has a nice neighborhood vibe and the service is always friendly. I am on a big white chocolate mocha kick right now and this is a do not miss at all Flour locations!
Breakfast sandwich is unreal. And obviously all pastries that stare at you while you wait in line.
I ordered their traditional Egg Breakfast sandwich w/ Arugula, tomatoes and guac. Tasted amazing. They gave me a complimentary brownie as well. Great experience!
Nice fresh bakery.. On the pricey side to though. Busy place
Love there black bean chili here ! It’s real good and definitely a must have when it’s soup of the day! I like my chili spicy so I add lots of pepper and sriracha sauce !
Oh Flour. So tasty, so buttery, so pleasing to most of the senses. The staff is friendly and attractive. The baked goods are worthy of me cycling over from 15-20 minutes away. The coffee is always hot, fresh n tasty. However, the entry and standing-in-line aspects are terrible. This seems to be the case at each Flour location and the result is a bottle neck at the entrance. I have opted not to enter many a Flour location when I arrive and experience such a bottle neck situation. I have also seen others walk away and get a snack elsewhere. Please address and restructure your entries Flour...we all want to come in an enjoy your baked treats & coffee!
I small place seating doubles with curbside tables. The roast beef sandwiches were delicious. Missed out on the hand made pop tarts but scored on the handmade Oreos. It was worth the wait. Enjoy should you go.
A Sunday morning tradition. Every time I have visitors, I HAVE to go on a walk to the South End and start the weekend day with a Flour pastry. The sticky buns are phenomenal (no wonder she beat Bobby Flay in the Show Down). I tend to go for the low fat dried fruit scone - it's absolutely delicious with bits of ginger to accompany the other dried fruit. The cookies are all amazing, especially the double chocolate one. I've heard the sandwiches are incredible, but I have a hard time deviating from the baked goods!
Excellent bakery with a wide variety of items including sweets and sandwiches. 4/5 stars as it's often very busy and seating during brunch/lunch/dinner can be difficult at this location. Items may sell out, but this just goes to show how good all the food here is. Still, worth visiting and grabbing something delicious to go.
Great Coffee!! Love the lemon ginger scone!!
This Flower location is really small and sometimes mothers love to bring their children here in their gargantuan strollers. I love the coffee and bakery items but 90% of the time id like to just get in and out in relatively short period of time as i am in a hurry to get to work. Come August and September this is virtually impossible as they are busy programming a whole new group of Androids to take your orders for gluten free muffin tops and dark roast coffees.
Really lovely local spot with Boston clout but a still-home-grown feel. Homemade hummus sandwich is delectable. Good vegan options and gourmet food to accompany expected beverages and baked goods.
Various kinds of pastries ranging from not-so-typical croissants, scones, muffins to cookies, coffee cakes, breads to homemade pop tarts & granola bars. They have a selection of dessert cakes and items, along with yogurt parfaits and pre-made salads. Good selection of sandwiches, some of which change seasonally - love the pressed veggie option. Iced coffee is also delicious. Staff is friendly, but the place is small so it can get packed very quickly with locals on bustling mornings.
Who doesn't love Flour? With locations all over Boston, this has become a city staple. We love ordering the sandwiches and treats for catered lunches at work, and I can't resist stopping by on my own when I get the chance. I'm in love with so many of the delicious desserts that it's difficult to call out just a few. But I'm also crazy about the cauliflower sandwich - give it a try!
Flour serves consistently good cafe food. All of the desserts I have tried have been delicious. My personal favorite is the cornmeal lime cookie sandwich. The half-sandwiches are a pretty good deal, except you have to pay extra to have it grilled. This is a great option if you are looking for something quick and somewhere to get a good caffeine fix.
While visiting Boston I stopped by to try a bakery item. I tried their Boston Cream pie, one of my favorite desserts and wasn't impressed - not enough custard for my liking. Otherwise, the inside was small and cramped. Overall, the food and coffee were serviceable, I just had higher expectations.
The long lines and cramped space are worth the wait. Sticky Buns, of course, are positively fantastic, but so is everything else! Sandwiches cover the basics - chicken, beef, lamb, veggie, even vegan - but are anything but plain. Pastries run the gamut from cupcakes to apple snacking cake to cookies and seasonal muffins, and they're all mighty tasty. Haven't ever had a bite of food from Flour that I didn't totally adore.
Fantastic food and excellent coffee. Nice selection of pastries along with heavier fare.
Really nice place, genuine bakery in contrast to starbucks and all the like. People are very friendly and calm although the place can be very busy. The vegan chocolate muffin is amazing!
Great location (street parking everywhere), eclectic menu, delicious food, accessible prices. We ordered the stuffed bread and it was very tasty. Nice atmosphere for having a coffee and working/studying.
I ordered the cake with writing name on it. It looks nice and delicious. One thing you should know is they're very busy at lunch time as other nice places. But I think they handle business well. I will try again soon.
I much prefer the Cambridge location for its large space, but this one isn't bad at all. For lunch the lamb sandwich is a must-try. They're well known for the sticky sticky buns but I much prefer the blueberry muffins! They have a corn taste to them, I think: very moist and large enough to heat up later on at home if you can't finish it in one sitting.
Probably the best bakeries in Boston. Their baked goods are decadent to the extreme. One of my favorites is their hot chocolate which involves an ice cream scoop and what looks like a ball of fudge. Be ready for an amazing flavor experience.
Didn't get to meet Joanne Chang but it was still a pretty sweet experience nonetheless. The sticky buns are popular with customers--I found it excessively sweet, a bit like a doughnut, but it was still enjoyable.
I preferred their fancy pop tarts and mint oreos. I personally liked the ambience indoors and that they also had some outdoor seating. Wait time was practically nonexistent so props for that.
Flour Bakery also had a deli menu which I did not get to try, but would, should I make another visit in the future.
5 stars for the products and 1 star for the service = 3 stars
Sunday afternoon - not a busy time.
Unfortunately my order was completely messed up; I asked to eat and drink at their tables and was provided with to-go containers and cups. I asked for a specific type of cake and was given a completely different product - it's a good thing that I do not have food allergies! Definitely not a place for caring and nice service. Too bad because their food is really good.
My advice: please, pick a different Flour venue.
Advice to the store manager: please, change the type of coffee roast you use for your espresso: it is bitter and burned.
The food is usually good. The best part about the Washington St. location is Carolina/Caroline. She's personable, knowledgeable, and always bright eyed and bushy tailed when I come in. Clone her!!!😁 Thanks for being you! …
Love, love, love flour bakery! BLT is amazing, best in Boston! Bread puddings are amazing, everything is delicious! I like to buy treats for friends there...they are a perfect birthday treat/hostess gift/holidays. Boxed, easy to give and amazing!
The baked goods are to die for!!! The line is usually long, but it moves quick. Their sandwiches and salads are perfe tly paired with unique items and adding a cookie will finish your lunch off perfectly
Lovely bakery. Was quite packed when I went there (lunch hour rush?)
The Chunky Lola cookie was wonderful. The tartlettes were divine.
Highly recommend. Will definitely be back again
Great spot, I eat here all the time. Baked goods are great so are the sandwiches. Be forewarned that there is limited seating, so you should be prepared to carry out and sit in one of the great local parks if the weather is nice.
One of my favorite spots for fresh food. BUT WHATS UP WITH YOUR SOUP MAKER? What happened to two types of soup a day ( one I like and one I don't). This is a bummer. Soup season is approaching lets get it popping.
Bacon sandwiches, berry coffeecake, sticky buns, kitchen sink cookies, excellent coffee. The lines are long, you'll likely have to share a table but you're sure to come back. One of the best South End neighborhood bakeries.
Excellent service and the food is always great
Everything here is delicious. I have the cookbook at home and make treats all the time! Staff is extremely friendly. Great atmosphere. Great place in general!
Moved out of Boston in December, I miss the iced chai latte and your beautiful banana bread SO MUCH, the staff was always on point. First place I'm going when I go back to MA!
Joanne Chang offers a wide array of pastries and breads to take home as well as the best sandwiches, salads and soups, fresh daily. Don't forget to check out her other restaurant-Myers and Chang. Needless to say she has a friendly and highly professional staff.
Great pit stop on my way to tour MIT. The food was healthy and fresh, and I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere inside. I didn't love the sticky bun since I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I admit it had a nice consistency.
Visiting Boston and ran into this pace by chance. Loved the options and the bakery was perfect. Went out of my way a second time just to go again.
Could be a place to stop by each time I need to go by BU Dental School .
For a foodie, a trip to Flour can be downright overwhelmingly amazing. There's more delicious sandwiches than you can conquer in a month's worth of lunches and more desserts than you'll ever have a sweet enough tooth for. This place can get cramped but it's worth every squished second spent in line. The most delicious little piece of heaven you'll ever find!
I bought the granola parfait at a flower café in Boston. I thought it was yogurt but it’s not. This delicious creamy substance is on par with cake filling or something you put on a scone so if you are not watching your waistline go ahead and eat this. But flour next time when you make this could you please substitute with low-fat Greek yogurt?
Thank youuuu
Delicious food, nice staff.
Awesome healthy choices for sandwiches!! Amazing pastries!! The coffee drinks are delish!!! Staff is always smiling and helpful!! Try the Harvard square location, too!!
Flour has a wide selection of sandwiches (all of which can be turned into salads) and desserts, as well as daily specials (pizza, strata, quiche, etc). They also serve coffee, tea, and other beverages. The menu is clearly marked to show what items are vegetarian, vegan, or nut-containing. What's on offer changes seasonally. It can get a bit crowded at lunchtime, but there's seating indoors and outside, and free WiFi. I'm a big fan of the curried tuna sandwich (no celery! Hurrah! I hate celery!), the peanut butter cookies with sea salt, and the mint iced tea.
The chef has an extreme passion for pastries (my fav place to grab a slice of Boston Creme Pie), but it is her sandwich creations that steal my heart. The ingredients in each and every sandwich are very unique and her attention to detail has not gone unnoticed. If you stop by, you should take note that it is more of an in-and-out spot.
Lots of people talk about the sticky buns, but I think the almond croissants are where it's at. Flour is clean, quick, and friendly, and delicious. Definitely many steps up from Au Bon Pain or other chain cafes you might know. If you bring you own mug you can get coffee for $1!!! what a great way to encourage people to avoid paper cups! They also offer metal silverware and real dishes for those eating in. Also, you can bring your own container if you are getting something to go.
Other things that are delicious - blueberry muffins, breakfast sandwich.
We've had a really great all-around experience with Flour. We signed up for baking classes (biscuits, scones, & quick breads) and were delighted with the knowledge (and friendliness) of the staff. Since that class, we've been back for treats & lunch (can't go wrong with the BLT) and are delighted every time.
Wear your stretchy pants ;)
Went and grabbed some baked goods for breakfast this morning. I got the cranberry orange scone (dense, but delicious) and the twice baked brioche (soaked with an almond syrup and coated in crispy slivered almonds). Be ready for a rush at 8:00 AM: This is the BEST spot to get coffee and food in the area. Also, be ready to shell out your wallet…a breakfast sandwich will run you $7.
So this is a trendy lithe spot with a quirky identity in the South End. There just doesn't seem to be enough room for everything they want to be. It was my first time and I felt uncomfortable as I really didn't know the setup. They really need a place to order and a separate place to pick up. Otherwise folks are standing around and orders are being placed on the counter. If you miss your name then you likely miss your order. Not a good system. It feels backwards like they didn't expect a coffee shop to do well on a busy street in the densely populated South End.
Super super buttery croissants in this cosy bakery cafe
Flour is a local bakery/café chain that has been establishing a reputation for itself in Boston. While the coffee is good, the real reason to come here is for the cake (and the rest of the baked goods). Let’s face it, anywhere with the motto “make life sweeter... eat dessert first!” is going to get my vote!
Where the Washington St branch of Flour really scores is as a place to sit and eat your cake (who said you can't have your cake and eat it?). It's a bright, airy space, with the seating off to one side so you aren't bothered by the constant stream of takeaway customers, but still feel part of the cafe.
A note about the coffee: while there are better places to go for coffee, the coffee's pretty good and a cut above the average offering. As a place to go for coffee and cake it can't be beaten.
Flour deserves every star on this page, their menu is unique and tasty! Everyone’s favorites are the sticky cinnamon rolls, which, if you’re lucky enough to catch em early, really are heartwarming.
My personal favorite is their homemade poptarts. OMG! Pair that with one of their house sodas and you’ll be in good shape and kicked into high-gear for a GOOD DAY.
Regardless of time, you’ll likely always find yourself waiting in line for one of these bad boys, but admiring all the baked goods with your nose pressed to the glass isn’t the worst. It’s also helped me venture out to try a few more goodies that were also amazing. The even better news is that their sandwiches are just as intentionally made! Can’t say enough good things about Flour.
Stopped by for pastries and some lattes. Excellent food, prices are decent, staff was friendly. I messed up and ordered the wrong thing, they fix the situation with no stress. Only issue is that it can get a little crowded, though the crowds are justified.
You will have to wait in line but it is WORTH the wait. Have traveled to eat from NY to San Fran and this is the up there amongst the best bakeries in the Country. Hazelnut Cookie has real whole pieces of Hazelnut and their Chocolate Lola cookie with its coconut bits has the perfect mix of ingredients. Flour's bread is THE BEST, could eat a whole loaf in one sitting. So moist and fresh so be careful to eat it on same day cause ingredients are clearly great quality cause bread does not last and goes hard in few days cause there are not preservatives.
Sandwiches are a big hit too, with their Chicken and Brie and Lamb being my favs. Soups are hardy and do not contain filler "flour" that a lot of places use to thicken the soup, instead Flour uses main ingredients that heighten the taste and quality.
A must stop if in the Boston Area.
My wife and I love flour. We have a number of their cook books. I recommend thier sandwiches (try getting two half sandwiches to try different things) and their Oreo cookie.
I was introduced to Flour last Saturday, and boy, I'm glad I met Flour. I had two cookies, both of which left me wanting more, even though I had just eaten brunch. I haven't visited the Central Square spot yet, but it's definitely now on my to-do list.
(Took one star off as my second cookie wasn't up to par)
Can't go wrong with the breakfast sandwiches. And the sticky bun is to die for.
House made desserts, danishes, muffins, granola! How can it get any better? This is one of Boston’s best bakeries. It’s has a very whimsical feel. Joanne Chang has created a gem.
Great as always. I've known Joan since sh opened. The young man who attended me 20min ago is a great asset. Helpful pleasant etc I wish I had his name to let you know. Very cheery chap
Great, high quality food and drinks made and served in front of you by a friendly, non-pretentious staff. Very comfortable bakery give a to try whether you're an organic enthusiast or not.
During my stay in Boston, I visited Flour daily for coffee and a sweet treat. Their corn shortbread cookies are to die for. Sandwiches and snacks are also delicious especially if you need to pick up something quick.
The meals were somewhat strange and there wasn't much recognizable at all. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich that was pretty good, but nothing special. The pastries that we got were pretty good, though.
Pastry was ok. I told the worker to stay in, but they brought my tea and dessert in plastic container and paper cup. And when i asked for a ceremic plate, the worker still offered me aother plastic container. It kind of bothered me. The iron spoons did not seem clean for me and i had to pick up the plastic spoon.
If i want to have my tea and dessert in somewhere nice, I expected the food and drink served in a proper way, not plastic for everything.
Produit are good, but twice the vegetarian sandwiches causes me indigestion. Also, today my clothes are smelling to oil after sort 20 minutes inside. I suspect that the quality of oil they use for sanduchsan is 1. Not going; 3 .Smelletoo much and too bad.
Flour has a special place in my heart. Wonderful baked goods and breakfast items. I especially enjoy the coffee cake with black coffee to start my day off right.
A nice shop- it is like Starbucks but more focused on the pastries & eatery than the drinks. But is still a cafe-esque feel. Not much seating & it is always bumping & grinding (which means there is a wait)
Great service.
Coffee is meh.
Bakery goods look amazing and has great selection to choose from.
The oatmeal raisin cookie was so soft and fresh. I can't wait to go back., my friend loved the carrot cake.
Bustling neighborhood cafe. Lots of specialties for lunch, as well as standard coffee items. My only critique is of the ordering system - multiple times I've had confusion with the staff about where the coffee is that I've ordered. May be an opportunity to revise their system?
Everything they make here is delicious. Can't go wrong with any choice, but the stick buns are locally famous.
The chicken and broccoli rab sandwich is delicious! Love the breads here and the sticky buns are great! Worth checking out for sure
Nommm. Their (gluten free) almond cookie is the best pastry I've had in a long time. Marzipan flavors.
Amazing sticky buns (toasted pecans, molasses covered bun). Pricey but worth it once in a while. Other baked goods are sweet and innovative.
The old staff made every visit with my wee tot so great. They never thought twice about making his chai latte just warm enough for a four year old and knew him by name. The lemon ginger scones & lime cookies (old version) are his favs.
Still loving the menu... but why is my 8yo ordering the big chunks of cake with his chai.... why????????? I have to fight him for a bite.
I think they produced the best chocolate cream pie I have EVER eaten. Go here, you will be happier for it.
Loved the bakery items they serve, they were very fresh and tasted delicious. Only con, they asked for my name (for the drinks/pastry) as it was busy, but they failed to call my name when the drinks were ready. That was a bit frustrating.
Best rye bread I’ve ever had. I think the tomato and arugula were picked minutes before they built my sandwich. I wish I could
Get this food back at home.
Everything here is yummy. I wasn't a fan of coffee until my lady put me on to the caramel latte. And the pastries make me feel like a kid again.
Came here for Pi Day--half priced pie! I also got the quiche. Everything was phenomenal. The quiche was perfectly cooked--possibly sous vied. Looking forward to returning!
Love the egg soufle sandwich!
Flour has multiple locations. I personally visit the one on Washington St., South End...but they are all great! Good food. reasonably priced, great staff. great ambience.
I've been going here since I was a kid and the ice cream is always good. A nice old fashioned ice cream stand.
Never disappointed and always happy 😊 …
Had the seasonal turkey sandwich while i was here and it did not disappoint! Coffee was delicious, customers and staff alike were nice - very cool spot!
This place is nice, but a little pricey for what I expect from a bakery without quite as many options as I feel like I usually find in bakery-cafes. Still, the food is good and it is a pleasant place to eat lunch.
A great local chain. Founded by a women who left her job and gave cookies to her coworkers saying that one day they’ll be famous. :)
Flour is my absolute favorite cafe in Cambridge! Their sandwiches are delicious and the staff is always friendly. The iced mocha is by far the best in Boston!!
Staff was friendly, food was delicious. The only issue I had was I ordered a lot of pastry & dessert, but when I got home the chocolate mousse was missing.
Everything is good. A great cup of French Roast late in the day. Wonderful sandwiches. Delicious baked goods.
Picked up a coffee cake from Flour Bakery for our monthly game night and got lots of compliments and comments about how most of the guys didn't realize coffee cake could actually be so good. 18 thumbs up!
Best egg sandwich!!
Tasty baked goods and great coffee, tea and other drinks
Food is a bit pricey for me. I didn't really enjoy my breakfast and the disliked whatever chocolate they used for their hot chocolate. I forced myself to eat to get my money's worth.
One of the best bakery i have come across. Food is little expensive but taste good and fresh. Try roasted chicken sandwich and chai spice latte
I have been to most of the Flour locations multiple times and am always impressed with the coffee, breads, desserts, sandwiches, quiche...you name it. They do it right and the staff is hardworking and pleasant.
Great place to grab a meal on the go. Small dining area wish it was bigger but the food is delicious, trendy plenty of mouth watering pastries.
Very friendly and excellent service. Even with my Tampa Bay Rays hat on. Pastries are excellent! Thank you to the nice man who waited on me for the extra treat!
Sticky buns n hot chocolate were excellent combination. Sticky buns were appropriately sugared and not excessively sweet.
Great cafe. A lot of pastry options hard to decide sometimes. Busy at times but they move pretty quickly with their iPad based system.
The best bakery is all of Boston. Amazing baked goods. Mouthwatering sandwiches. So many great things about this place.
This location is smaller than the others so I usually come here to just pick up baked goods. The raspberry seltzer is housemade and very refreshing during the summer!
Best latte I ever had. Sticky buns also amazing. The lining-up and order-taking process is a little disorganized, but worth it.
They have the best cafe mocha and banana bread in town
The ordering process is kind of wonky but they more than make up for that with the food. My go to for lunch is the roast beef, but I haven't had anything here I didn't like.
Five stars for the beautiful Lemon Raspberry cake for my Mother Adele's 90th Birthday! Everyone loved the flavors!!
Had high expectations for this place because of the great reviews. Came in for Coffee and a sticky bun. The coffee wasn't great but the sticky bun was nice.
On a meaty day it would be a BLT. Having their Strata tonight.
Excellent food with prompt and efficient service. The desserts were most yummy.
Wow i love their cake!! I got it for my birthday and it’s the best💕💕💕 …
Sweets are spot on (pecan bun!), lunch options are pretty good. I think it can be a bit pricey for what you get, but that is the area. Packed at lunch
Amazing! I don't even know what to say about this place. No wonder it's so popular. The food is amazing. You have to try it to understand
Small, cozy venue with a large number of cafe and bakery items. The BLT was pretty good, a little too crispy though.
Good sandwiches and baked goods.
Not to be missed. Outstanding in every regard from the hospitality to the tiny nuances of every baked delight. It was our morning "go to" every single day in Boston.
Tasty food, coffee and tea drinks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oh, and did I mention friendly service? A neighborhood gem that lives up to the hype.
Everything is amazing. Try the flavored homemade seltzer or the lamb sandwich. Also there's a wonderful outside area to people watch in the south end.
Best customer service.
Really great pastries and coffee. We take a short walk here when we have to go to B&W hospital. Well worth the walk and the prices are great too
Awesome as always. Don't go there on a diet. My fave is Cheddar scallion scone. Butttah!
We got a 6” birthday cake from them and it was amazing. Haven’t had had anything else here but will make a visit soon.
Awe inspiring sandwiches, we bought the cookbook just for the carrot cake recipe. It's that good...
Everything is delectable and worth the price your paying. Space is quite crowded but they have outdoor seating in warmer weather months.
I love their GF bread! Specially the roast beef and the apple one! Also their GF bake goodies never fail!
Vegan chocolate cupcakes! Amazing food. Coffee is ok but could be better. Gets very crowded at bfast and lunch.
I know this is my munchie Spot after smoking that dispenser weed cookies and gelato is the strain but those cheese Danish chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies is the taste there mumm
Excellent lunch items, amazing baked goods and the best Vegan flourless chocolate cupcake imaginable. This place is AMAZINGLY good.
Everything about this place is great. The pecan sticky rolls, the pecan bread pudding, the sandwiches are all so delicious.
The chocolate mousse cake was divine!! Not something I normally splurge on, but worth every penny.
Tastes good but small portions for sandwiches
Nice café and bakery for quick breakfast or lunch. The staff was friendly and helped pick good pastries to try for our first visit.
Loved the food and desserts.
The appeared very friendly and professional
I got sticky buns...they were great...but for what I spent....and the time it took. The bakery and everything they had..was to rich in flavor for my taste.....great place to go $$$$$
Delicious, innovative
The atmosphere is a mx of urban cafe with local french flair.
The salads are amazing
Fantastic place for lunch and desert. A bit on the pricey side but you've likely never had a better roasted lamb sandwich.
Excellent sandwiches and sweet treats!
Wow! Desserts are great. They also have good sandwiches and soups and salads.
Nice, industrial feeling bakery with tons of baked goods and hot drinks. Super friendly staff.
Not my style, almost none of the options are appetizing (aside from the pastries) especially for vegans. Lame coffee too :(
This place is awesome. Everything we tried was fantastic. The aroma of fresh baked treats was awesome.
Great employees and food is pretty good too!
Very friendly atmosphere and really really good sandwiches, salads, muffins, baked goods, coffee, cookies, and many other items
Always crowded and the workers act very stuck up! At least the few times i have gone by. Food on the other hand is very delicious
Loved the items we picked up, especially the breakfast sandwich! Awesome, energetic staff, too!
Trendy make your eyes water looking at the different pastries. Great selection for breakfast and lunch. Wifi.
I will let the pictures tell the story....
one of my favorite cafes that's been here since I was little. truly a pleasure. ☺️
Yummm
Breakfast sandwich is delicious and has a luxurious twist.
Coffee also good!
Nice place. Tasty treats. Come eat here.
Not sure where the "French" comes from, the treats and food is very American.
I would like to know how they think that a CAULIFLOWER melt is a suitable replacement to the MUSHROOM melt?? Not even close. Disappointed.
I love flour bakery, but this location is so small that it’s very uncomfortable during busy times. So crowded and loud
Sticky buns are very good!!
The tarts are amazing, so are the Oreos and chai lattes. I will definitely be going back for more!
This is my first choice cafe when I was a dental school resident in BU.
Roast lamb sandwich I recommend
Amazing pastries, but the coffee is a let-down, in particular if you ask for something more than the usual american coffee
Great service, great food, great ingredients. Loved the seasonal cookies shaped like bunnies.
Good food, love their raspberry seltzer and nice coffee.
They make the best cupcakes the my mother and I have ever had in our entire lives.
Great pastries and good coffee. Also nice if you like a more sweet breakfast :)
A good selection of lunch food and baked goods. Always busy. Personally, feel that the place is a bit overhyped.
Love, love, love everything they make! My favorites are: butter bread, hazelnut chocolate cookie and twice baked brioche
Really tasty, crazy busy during the noon hour on Friday. Lots of gluten and dairy free options.
My favorite bakery in Boston. Get the bacon agrugala tomatoes sandwich. You won't regret it.
This place is pretty cool and the food was amazing. Their Lemon Raspberry cake was everything.
Delicious sandwiches made to order and they have gluten free bread and other baked goods.
Coffee is really good and their pastries are great
As always, great pastry selection from another Flour location!
The chicken tika masala naan is perfection.
Roasted chicken with avocado and BLT
nice friendly staff working the front, breakfast sandwich are awesome!
This place is awesome. This is my favorite place. Cheap and delicious, sweet The modest places are good.
ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!! The word on the street about this place is spot on.
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a coffee and a bite of something sweet.
Pricey but worth it
The flagship of a burgeoning bakery chain. Try the Chunky Lola cookie, which was named after a chubby local dog.
My favorite bakery in Boston. I highly recommend the famous sticky bun and the twice baked brioche.
One of the best lunch places in back Bay, wide variety of sandwiches and sweets
amazingly delicious and creative pastries a relatively good price, perfect for breakfast lover's in a rush.
The best baked goods also wonderful lunch cauliflower paninis lamb sandwiches tomato soup very good
Nice food at a decent price. Great sandwiches and sweets the soup are not as great
Great, clean, delicious food. Friendly service and decent prices. Love this place.
Their sandwiches and baked goods are so yummy!

Great bakery I take my wife once a week and try something new every time she goes
environment is very casual and relaxed. i can use internet. food is very good especially the boston creme pie
Food was good and staffs were kind. It wasn't spacious or cozy, but okay.
Crowded small space, decent wait time if not during lunch rush. Good food and decent prices.
Great food great staff. But way to small inside theres no place to sit
Two words: STICKY BUNS!!!! Also very creative and tasty sandwiches. Good vibes overall.
I visit mainly for the great hot chocolate. items are small in portion, some what pricey but fresh.
Best in pastries and baking the cookies are very delicious, my daughter use to work for them when she was in college.
Its amazing place for desserts. Many gluten free options that are equally delicious
Made for a lovely afternoon before quick walk to BMC.
Sticky buns to die for, and decent coffee too. Often busy though, but for the best reasons.
Close to my work - my go to place for coffee, pastries, and the occasional lunch. Great options and great staff!
Fantastic bakery for years now with incredible pastries, good coffee, and delicious sandwiches.
A little pricey but the sandwiches and hot chocolate were excellent.
Yummy selection of sandwiches and sweet baked treats. Coffee and other drinks available.
Good coffee and breakfast sandwich. Ordering online is the best route to go.
Quaint with a rustic feel the food and beverages are very delicious. The dessert is to live for!
Extremely tasty but small and very crowded come when there are no students breaks 😉 …
Love the food.
Great food start with great ingredients and love of food. These folks love food and it shows!
Delicious snacks and desserts. Quick service. Space to sit if desired.
Chicken jicima sandwich is my jam - good triple espresso over ice

Good pastries and seltzer. Crowded at lunch. Sandwiches are also great.

Flour is the gold standard for casual lunch in Boston
A very busy, but friendly place. Nice selection of coffees and pastries.
Delicious sandwiches and salads! I highly recommend the hot chocolate
Busy lunch place with great sandwiches. A little disorganized but nice staff.
Really great place for lunch, food is good and snack selection is top notch
Always fresh. Unfortunately no low carb options as it is a bakery 😁 …
Very good food. Nice staff. Clean. Friendly
Absolutely the best sandwiches, salads and desserts in the South End of Boston
Great coffee and sticky buns. Sandwiches are decent too.
Great pastries and coffee.

I love Flour, this is by far my favorite location even if it is crowded 90% of the time
Great place for your lunch and quick meal and bake goods
All around deliciousness, but wish there were more (actually, any) outlets :(
Delicious baked goods, pretty decent sandwiches. Sandwiches are on the expensive side
Love the savory sandwiches here. Can't complain about the bread made in house.
Good sweets and sandwiches. Prices are what you expect if you're local.
Best baked goods around and friendly attentive staff.
Sticky buns keep everyone coming back. The lattes and other espresso drinks are not so good though.
I love it . everyone super nice and friendly.
Just go and experience joy.
Wonderful service, fantastic products! Can't wait to go again!
This bakery is part of the Boston identity. Better you avoid rush time.
There is a reason this place is so highly rated- we went back 3 times during our weekend visit to Boston.
Great sandwiches but can be busy at lunch
Excellent Bakery
Even though it's good...... The price is wrong for this food.
Excellent pastries, sandwiches, and hot meals from dawn to dusk at this Boston staple.
Good but was disappointed in the inconsistency of ingredients from one cookie to the other from the same purchase.
Starbucks has nothing on this coffee shop. Perhaps CEO of Starbucks should visit and learn :)))
Great food but awfully packed hard to find a free table/chair
Great food, great service, really fair prices!!
Fabulous service and quality!
Try the peanut butter cookie :)
Very good food, coffee and price.

They have vegan options but they don't really taste great.
Quick service, tasty options, and sizeable portions.
Overpriced and coffee is blah. Only good are the pastries
Staff is super friendly and the pastries are awesome!
Addicted to this place. Love the reward points on their app
A smaller version of the one in back bay, same great food.
I eat at flour often. It is always wonderful.
Got a wonderful lemon and ginger scone! Yum!
Delish pastries and pickup is so easy
If you've never had a parmesan and chive scone you are truly missing out.
It's a calm and some classical small cafe.
Lovely and lively lunch spot with wholesome choices
