The 4.9 rating is 100% accurate. Some of the best donuts I’ve ever had. Recommend placing your order 10 minutes or so before arriving if coming on the weekends. Don’t skimp and try every type of donut they have. Made hot and fresh for every order.

Super fresh, fried to order! It’s take out only which we didn’t know, but you order online and the donuts were out lightning fast. Great, friendly service and the donuts are out of this world. They’re light and airy, not the sugar laden gut bombs that are so prevalent these days. I wish we lived closer! These top the list of my favorite donuts ever!

Dang good donuts! Made hot and fresh, they melt in your mouth. Ordering online using their QR code was quick and simple and we enjoyed sitting at one of 3 tables inside. We loved all 3 flavors, the fresh squeezed OJ, and the local coffee. The lady running the shop was extremely friendly and hospitable, making sure everyone got their order quickly and had a top-notch experience. If I lived closer, this would be a weekly indulgence but we’ll enjoy passing through on future trips to Knoxville. Can’t recommend any more highly!

One of the best donuts I’ve ever had. A little weird not going in and ordering. Had to scan a code and order outside and they brought them to you when done. Probably could’ve used someone outside during peak time to give a more warm welcome and understanding of the process. We stood there for a minute and caught on. With all that said still a fantastic donut and coffee. Will return when in town.

Really yummy classic doughnuts! I didn't get a picture of them because they were hot and fresh, too good to wait! There weren't a lot of options with the doughnut flavors but personally I prefer the more basic ones anyway. The cinnamon sugar was my favorite! It had an amazing hint of salt that took it to the next level. Definitely worth a visit!

The BEST donuts I've ever had! Hard to pick a favorite since they are all so good, but the sesame cinnamon has a surprising lead, in my opinion. The staff are also friendly and make the donuts fresh to order. Highly recommend if you are in Asheville!

This is one place that lives up to the reviews. Every single blog about Asheville recommends this place and it deserves that and much more! Hands down THE MOST FLUFFY, FRESH, WARM Donuts I have ever had! The owner was extremely fun and energetic. Typically, you would place an order online and come there for pick-up. Being outsiders, we didn’t know about that and tried walking right-in. And she was extremely sweet and interested in knowing more about us and took our orders. We were asked to wait outside. They have a lot of parking and seating area for waiting. And during that 5-10min wait, we saw so many locals picking up dozens of doughnuts. She addressed each and everyone by the name! Needless to say, I finished my donut in a minute. I cannot go back to liking any other donut anymore knowing that the other side of the coast, someone is making delicious donuts such as these! 😭😭😭 Make sure you try the vanilla glazed but all their flavors were nice!

If you are in the area must try Hole Doughnuts! Had the cinnamon sugar and vanilla glazed both were amazing. Also had just regular black coffee and it was great! The service we received was the best ever...... above and beyond experience. Perfect ending to our N.C. trip!

I went to a local Indian joint on vacation with my kids and the owner approached us and invited us to get some free and the kids were so excited. The owner was so energetic and kind! My sister-in-law’s name is Lauren and hers is too so she was excited, so kind! And the donuts were so good! Fresh and hot and amazing.

am a returning customer- drove 4 hours to Asheville to eat these donuts. was afraid they would not be open due to the winter storm/holiday season, but they delivered!! these donuts are crispy yet soft, light, airy on the inside. while the shapes are not like your typical donuts, they are worth the travel and wait (since they are made fresh for every order) 😋can’t wait for the day that I’ll get to eat them again

One of the best glazed doughnuts I’ve had. I always use a glazed doughnut as my standard of measurement for a doughnut shop and this place hits the spot. Made to order so they are still warm, but these have a crispy outside with a soft and chewy inside that is unique and delicious.

Love this place. The variety is limited each day but that's also the key to ensure super good quality and delicious doughnuts. You go there and order online and they will serve you outside if the weather is nice. Even better then the doughnuts is the customer service! Super entertaining and the lady remembers the name of every customer and ensures that everything is good. So a place for great doughnuts and clearly a great experience where you walk off with a smile.

Heard these were the best doughnuts around. They were good, and unique, but not the best I’ve ever had, as much as I liked them. Placing an order via an app was a bit ludicrous when standing outside the door, though the lady bringing them out was lovely and welcoming. Just seems weird and self-indulgent to not allow you to even speak to anyone inside. Ordered a single special doughnut via this app - but didn’t get it. The downfall of such a system! Overall, decent, but I wouldn’t drive out of my way again to get there.

Quick trip to Asheville for the weekend and stopped by this buzzing local shop for some incredible treats. BEST donuts ever!!! Arrived and placed order via QR code. They make your donuts hot & fresh. Whoever was working 10/29 and bringing donuts out is a bright light that the world needs more of! They were very busy and she couldn’t have been happier, kind and attentive. Without a doubt, we’ll be coming back here every time we’re in Asheville - might even make a stop back by tomorrow on our way home!

OH WOW. We went at 12:00 pm on a Saturday, July 3, 2021. There were people waiting, but it didn’t take long once we placed our order. We ordered online and it was ready in like 10 minutes. A baker’s half dozen (7 donuts) is $15 and a baker’s dozen (13 donuts) is $30, so the baker’s half dozen is a better deal. They have 4 flavors: Vanilla Glaze, Cinnamon Sugar, Toasted Almond Sesame Cinnamon, and Maple Bourbon Glaze. I believe the last one rotates, but the first three are always on the menu. The donuts are made to order, so you never have to worry about them running out of a certain kind! I tried all 4 flavors and they were AMAZING. I can’t even rank them, they’re all just so good. Treat yourself and get some donuts from HOLE!

Go ahead and get yourself a dozen of these bad boys because WOW. They are delicious!! The size is very generous per donut. (The hibiscus mojito tea was nice, too!) The place is super cute and the staff was SO friendly! Due to Covid (I’m assuming) the inside is closed and you have to order online but they were so kind and accommodating & actually thanking people for waiting. We will definitely be back when we’re in town again and will for sure recommend this place to friends!

1st time here. Learned about it from watching YouTube of all places. Tried a couple of doughnuts and their coffee. The smell was incredible. Then I ate one. The doughnut was soft and fluffy on top and the bottom was very chewy. Was the batter off or is this the way they make them. Tried a different flavor and same thing. This was not a doughnut. Oh, and you have to order online and pick up at one of the doors. It’s cold outside.

So...made to order doughnuts was a new concept to this Montana boy. So there was a line and everyone just looking at each other. Turns out you order online...and then this lady comes out that was just so delightful! I didn't get her name but she's pictured. They serve the donuts in pizza boxes still warm and amazing! She works the crowd like a maestro. Think I would come back just for her pleasant voice and kind demeanor. And the donuts are unexplainable scrumptious. This is a must do for a most amazing carb and sugar load.

Sometimes I'm just blown away with what a place can do with simple ingredients, Hole is one of those places. Put it on your must visit list when you are in Asheville! The Coffee & Cardamom doughnut was awesome (weekly special) & I think the Toasted Almond Sesame Cinnamon doughnut was even better! You have to order online, but definitely spend some time watching the process, especially if you are lucky enough to score a seat at the bar.

Sweet, but also somehow savory, the perfect amount of crunch as you may want in fried bread. Think funnel cake but perfectly doughy like the best doughnut you’ve ever had. We LOVED this place. Raved about it all day long! Best doughnut I think I’ve ever had and would 100% recommend and definitely would go back. They are still order ahead/wait outside only but on a Thursday late morning, we didn’t wait long. The doughnuts were hot, made to order and cooked to perfection. I can’t recommend this place enough! My only wish was we had gotten a half dozen so we could have them in a box instead of stacked in a bag. It doesn’t change my review at all, just an afterthought.

Wow! I’ve had some donuts in my lifetime from all over the world, but these are hands down the best donuts I’ve ever had. I’m a texture guy, so the crisp, light crunch but soft airy and doughy inside is the perfect balance! Unbelievable flavors coming out of the shop! Toasted Almond Sesame Cinnamon is reminiscent of a Chinese Sesame Ball but a DONUT! Soooo good, I love Mochi donuts but I’d take these over them any day! Thank you for what you do Laurie!!!

The lightest and freshest donuts I've ever had. The donuts are made to order and are served piping hot (think zeppoles from a carnival hot). The outside was crisp, but the inside was fluffy and full of air pockets. I recommend eating them immediately! Restaurant only serves 4 flavors daily with one being a special. The chocolate milk came out cold and refreshing inside a to go cup. It pairs really well with the donuts. Currently, you are expected to place your order online and pickup in their parking lot. Expect a slight wait, but it is well worth it! Hostess was incredibly cheery and kind.

Please ignore any low reviews, this place is a local gem. It seems the majority of sour people have a problem with the “curbside pickup” protocol. Their sour dough donuts are literally the best I’ve had, and are made fresh and crispy to order. This means that you should order via google ahead of time so by the time you show up your donuts are ready to be carried out by the most vibrant, positive lady in west Asheville. If she annoys you rather than brightening your day, there is something wrong with you. 10/10 recommend to everyone. Those who’ve rated low are probably snobby tourists.

Maybe the best donut I've ever had! I can't explain how crunchy soft and light this donut was. They only had 3 flavors which I think is great. Do a few things and do them right. You have to order online due to covid then pick them up. The parking is a little limited when they're busy but great customer service and great donuts.

There are no donuts in this world that I've ever had like this place. So much so, they were voted by Bon Appétit mag as the best donuts of 2016! Couple things to be aware of: 1. Parking is very limited and the wait can b long. It's better to put in an order online and pick it up. 2. They are only open until 1:00 pm most days. Closed Mon-Tues. Laurie is THE best. You will be welcomed by the warmest greeting. You can tell she loves people, loves what she does, and it shows in their product.

I came in December while visiting for New Year’s and I knew the first place I would go upon arriving to Asheville was this place. The donuts are some of the best I ever had, whoever complained below is nuts. The lady that brings the donuts out is always so happy and nice, it makes the visit even more enjoyable. The only complaint I have is that I don’t leave in Asheville and I can’t have them as often as I would like.

I was born and raised in Canada (and we love our doughnuts).... So let me tell you when I say these aren't just any doughnuts.... These are GOD'S doughnuts, that isn't even a stretch! I have never been so happy and content eating food in my entire life. And their coffee to pair with it was immaculate. My friend and I visited from Charlotte, NC for a hiking trip and he told me about this place. This is by far the best doughnut shop I have ever been to. Laurie helped us with our order and what an amazing person she is. Her positive energy is just through the roof (very contagious) not only is the food amazing but the overall experience was an absolute blessing. The toasted sesame doughnut was one of the best doughnuts i’ve ever had. Fresh, light, airy, a little crispy on the outside, sweet but not too sweet. The staff was super nice! Online orders only and they will bring it out to you. The parking lot is small but it seems like it’s a quick turnover. We also tried a couple other doughnut and they were delicious as well. You can’t go wrong.

These doughnuts were really unique, well done, and totally fresh. They have a short menu, but that just made the decision on which to order that much easier (see photo: one of each). Due to Covid precautions, the shop was shutdown for multiple days but it was not clear what days and for how long. It’s great that they were safe, but wish it was clear on their website so I didn’t show up to an empty shop.

We were looking for a place to grab coffee and found Hole Doughnuts with some good reviews. Wanted to try for ourselves. Tiny place with big personality. Staff was very friendly and although they were busy they took time to greet and chat with everyone. A bit pricey but totally worth it for made to order doughnuts. They offer 4 types and rotate one of the flavors every week. We got the vanilla glaze and cinnamon and sugar. I also go a cup of coffee. Coffee was very good but the doughnuts were incredible. It's a good thing there isn't one in Augusta, GA or I would weigh 1,000 lbs. Can wait to come back again on our next visit to see family.

An absolute gem here in Asheville. We were greated before we were even inside the shop by the friendliest staff, and the experience only got better from there. These a truly handmade doughnuts, and the only downside of coming here is that all other doughnut experiences will disappoint for the rest of your life. This morning I left my everyday life behind and transcended to donut heaven. When we arrived the friendliest person on earth greeted my fiancé and I as if we were old friends. We ate the warmest freshest most crisp light and fluffy donuts I have ever eaten. As soon as they were handed to us we didn't even consider making it to the car and instead gobbled them down immediately because they smelled so good and tatested even better. THE EXPERIENCE: We stopped by The Hole to pick up some doughnuts after seeing the amazing reviews it had received. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I found the whole concept a bit "iffy". Let me explain; for starters, when we got there a number of people seemed to be hanging around outside. I went to the door - it was locked. Yet I had just seen someone come out of that very door. It turns out that in order to get doughnuts one must scan a QR code on the door. This will lock on to their menu / order page - if you have a Smart Phone on you. If not, " no doughnuts for you"! To receive your order, a runner from in the building, carries your order outside, where you have been waiting in the freezing cold for way too long to be comfortable. When the doughnuts arrive, however, they are just out of the fryer hotter than Hades! THE FOOD: I found the selection of doughnuts to be very narrow; glazed, sesame coated (odd), powdered sugar tossed, and beignets. While the taste was good, the consistency was like they were totally hollow. If I have to pay $15 for six doughnuts, wait in the freezing weather for my custom-fried pastries, I prefer them to have more content. These seemed to be over-raised to the point they contained more air than anything.

What a wonderful place. Amazing made to order donuts. Theyre a yeast style donut that is light and airy almost like a croissant. Theye oddly shaped which is unique and reminded me of a cronut. We tried all the available flavors and loved them all. The service was friendly and energetic. The lady running the joint seemed to really enjoy herself and was passionate about her product.

From front of the house (Lori (sp?)) to the cook (Chase) -and everyone in between-, to the final sugary result of their efforts being devoured is a truly awesome experience. Staff are more than attentive, very personable and even remembered my wife's name from the day before. No wonder people travel hours to experience this place. Oh my gosh! I have never had a better donut than from this place. Such a neat place. They are super busy for a great reason. First, the staff are friendly and treat every customer like they personally know them. They have great energy that makes you smile. I had no problem tipping them in their jar at the register. Second, order in instead of take out. That way you can watch them make donuts in front of you which is very entertaining. Thirdly, get the vanilla glazed. The other flavors are equally good but something about a classic flavor. The donuts come out warm and fluffy with a light crunch of freshness.

Quality over quantity. I will definitely have to come here every time I visit Asheville. These doughnuts are fantastic! I thought that Donut World's buttermilk donut was the best glazed treat, but Hole's doughnuts have taken the prize. The staff is very sweet as well. What a great place to visit. The line was out the door but the staff move things along quickly. Super friendly and the atmosphere was great. Their coffee is divine. Love that your doughnuts are made fresh and that you can watch the whole process. Very down to Earth atmosphere including the crowds. We sat at the bar for a while to watch the doughnut making process. We then shared a table with some visiting Brits and had quite the interesting conversation. The crowd cheered for the worker who remembered the names of the patrons and what they'd ordered. I found the place top notch,interesting,funny,entertaining and would definitely visit again. Note that you’ll only get an order time once you complete the purchase. The team looked like they were working as quickly as possible; I think they just have too much demand for their staff. A tip to the business owner: I noticed you use Square in your store. Square has an online ordering platform that doesn’t require customers to create an account (unlike ChowNow), and gives customers a wait time estimate before they order. Just something to consider. 🙂

The doughnuts here are fantastic, and the people who run the place are pretty awesome, too. We had stopped at Hole while visiting Asheville a few years ago and loved their made-to-order doughnuts. We were back in North Carolina last week, staying in a yurt at a campground, when tropical depression Fred came through. We spent a night without power, worrying about the rising creek and potential tornadoes. The next morning, we headed to Asheville and decided doughnuts were what we needed. We were thrilled to see Hole was still open! While waiting for our doughnuts, another customer asked where we were from. We mentioned the storm/loss of power etc. When our doughnuts were ready, the owner/employee (not sure which!) handed them to us and said, “There’s no charge because of what you went through last night.” How wonderful is that?? The doughnuts were just as fabulous as the first time we had them, too. What an amazing business. We will be back in Asheville in November (staying in a house, not a yurt!) and will be sure to make a stop at Hole and buy doughnuts for us and family we will be visiting.

These are the best doughnuts I have ever had, bar none. They are made-to-order, fresh and warm, and worth any amount of wait. I can only think that they flash-fry each doughnut at very high heat because each doughnut comes out unique and blistered. Those blisters create a satisfying crunch that is unrivaled. After our first visit, we came back the next day hoping for more. Unfortunately, they were unexpectedly closed (I think they may be having staffing issues). Just be warned to plan ahead or check online for their hours.

What a delicious doughnut! They are carefully prepared, then fried once you order them. This makes the process take longer, but totally worth the wait. Because of the pandemic, you have to order online, but it only takes 7 minutes and not the 20 minutes it suggests. They have daily specials, so there is always something new to try. Since I'm from out of town, I can't wait to come back and have some more... I probably could have eaten a full dozen.

Great doughnut place! They only serve about three kinds of doughnuts everyday, their iced, cinnamon sugar, and a flavor of the day. We got two iced and one cinnamon, orange juice, and a cup of coffee. The doughnuts were made right in front of us, and it is an open concept restaurant. They came out quickly and piping hot! They were absolutely delicious and not your typical cakey donut. The two ladies working that day were so kind and chatted with us about their local recommendations, and they even recommended a great consignment shop to hit up. At the end of our visit they gave me a free sticker. Really kind people and great doughnuts.

Obviously amazing donuts as the reviews show but a couple of things to know before you go. 1) They have a small selection of flavors so this isn't your typical doughnut shop with 50 different types of doughnuts and toppings. That said, the four options available are done perfectly. 2) The doughnuts are savory, sweet, chewy, and generally have that homemade quality. They aren't just fried sugar globs that leave you hungry 30 minutes after you are done eating. 3) They are freshly prepared so be patient and willing to wait a bit.

Stopped by this charming little place on our way out of town. The girl working at the register was lovely. Her personality fit her position well and set the tone for the entire place. We couldn’t decide on a flavor so we ordered one of each; this is apparently called a flight. In this picture, the guy on the left is making the donuts, the girl is frying them, and the guy on the right is topping them. Talk about made to order. The donuts were unlike any we’ve had before and quite delicious. You should definitely swing by if you’re in the area. If there’s a line out the door, just wait. You won’t regret it.

Every time I go to Asheville, I gain weight. Hole Doughnuts is definitely part of that issue. It's so easy to order online and pick up hot, fresh amazing doughnuts a few minutes later. The main issue is that you can't leave the parking lot without eating at least one...and a half. My family really loves the sesame almond, but they're all delightful. These are so much better than any chain restaurant and I can't wait to return to Asheville for more hot doughnuts very soon.

Unique, locally owned shop with a simple menu. Had four different doughnut options when we visited, one of which was a special that changes often. The doughnuts themselves are yeast based, but have a consistency that is different from anything I've had previously. Also had some of the best cold brewed coffee I've ever drank. Things to know: 1.) There is no counter service. You place your order and pay online. Orders are brought outside by an incredibly cheery lady named Laurie. 2.) Seating is limited and it is uncovered. 3.) No restrooms.

Regretfully, this is a first time review from an Asheville native and I regret not getting any of these delicious donuts sooner! The online ordering process was easy and we got the cinnamon sugar, toasted sesame seed, and the weekly special that was lime/basil. Luckily, we got there Saturday around 12 before it got busy and the way was only a few minutes. We didn't make it home before they were all devoured. Imagine a funnel cake/churro donut consistency and amazing flavors. We were happy and wished we had ordered more!

Donuts alone, I would rate a 5 star, they were different than any donut I've had. Hand shaped, slightly crispy exterior and very airy on the inside with a perfect amount of frosting. Unfortunately, the bakery is still closed so you have to order online and wait outside for it to be done. They only offer 4 types of donuts for you to choose from and I would complain about them being more expensive than most but considering they're made to order it's worth it. I ordered one glazed donut and waited 10 minutes for it to be prepared. The lady was very sincere and apologetic about our wait but I recommend you just order ahead of time. The place looked super cute and cozy on the inside but I just wish we could have experienced it for what it really is. Again, the donut was amazing otherwise my rating would be a little lower.

The best donuts I’ve ever had… by FAR! It’s hard to even put all donuts into the same category when Hole Donuts are in that category. They are clearly donuts, but they are so much better than any donut I’ve had before that I start to question whether other donuts are actually donuts. I’m including other specialty donut shops when I make this statement, not just nationwide chains. I could go on… but let me also do something about the atmosphere. I enjoy the small scale of the store and sitting at the table while a light bustle of donut making continues opposite me. The staff is friendly. Their coffee pairs well with their donuts. Though good, it’s not the out of this world quality of their donuts. Hole Donuts is a must visit if you haven’t been. Go on a weekday and there’s little to no line.

This place is fantastic. Hands down the best donuts and coffee that I've ever had. This morning with my first trip here and I ordered one of each kind of donut. The donuts were crazy good light and airy but they take a long time to eat. Very buttery with just a hint of salt. The coffee was just wow. I had decaf and it was like I just wanted another. And because it was Christmas the owner offered me a free coffee just to be nice.

Had a bad experience here. No going in to order, no walk up window. Only online ordering. The system they have to online order through would not process our order, it took about 5 minutes to load the page that said our order finally went through, and my husband had to put it in 3 times. Each time entering and reentering our card number and trying to sign in. After our order was finally placed they said 11 minutes to receive our donuts. We waited 20 minutes outside for 2 donuts.... There were four donuts to choose from. Really a bad system. I understand they make them fresh but good golly. Have someone at a window to take orders and speed up this process. Overall the donuts were good. Which is why I upped my original rating. It’s like a fried dough donut. Very airy, not a lot of dough to speak of inside. Not my type of donut. But the quality was there, they were fresh and while we were waiting the lady did tell us ours were being cooked.

We came on a busy Saturday morning and after figuring out we had to place an order online, it took 23 minutes to get them. I did not care for the sesame one but the other 3 flavors were amazing. We ate them hot and fresh! Another reviewer compared them to elephant ears and I would say that is very close. Crispy on the outside, doughy on the inside. Yumm! The girl bringing the doughnuts out was very friendly and upbeat as well. Definitely order in advance and enjoy right there if you can!

O.M.G. My husband and I ordered one of each donut so we could sample their different offerings. Needless to say we should have ordered at least a half dozen as these donuts were SO GOOD!! They hand deliver them to you nice and warm. You get a nice fried crisp on the exterior of the donut and the inside is soft and pillowy. My personal favorite was the Vanilla Glazed (since I’m a classic girl). My husband really liked their special flavors: Cocoa Coffee Cardamom as well as the Toasted Almond Sesame Cinnamon. Unfortunately we took no pictures as we ate them sooo fast.

Hands down the best doughnut I have ever had! If you love yeast raised hot made to order doughnuts then this place is for you! My husband and I got all 4 flavors they had. Vanilla glazed, sesame ( different but very tasty) cinnamon sugar, and the special - Earl Grey. They were crispy on the outside and pillowy soft in the middle. The glaze was sweet with hint of salt that balances everything out nicely (nothing like those overly sweet things you get at the popular chain). So good!

My first visit to a made to order donut shop. The donuts were heavenly! Deep fried with a barely crisp outside, inside so soft, light, and fluffy. Service was warm and friendly. Be advised that made to order donuts are just that, and expect it to take about 15-20 minutes to actually make YOUR donuts, which are then handed to you, unlike a shop where prepared product sits on a shelf. Some good and bad things here. First the bad: - due to COVID orders must be made online through a somewhat frustrating system that either requires a Google or Facebook account. If you’ve made the mistake (as we did) of ordering when you get here you will likely stand around waiting a while (for us on Saturday morning - 40 minutes). You are unable to go inside which is understandable but there’s not much room outside the building which isn’t also shared by its awkward and small gravel parking lot. - the donuts were really nothing to write home about. There were four variants to the traditional yeast donut and they all tasted about the same. Although the product was certainly fresh (cooked to order), it was far from the best donut I’ve ever had and by some folks’ standards this may not even be a particularly good donut. Ours was a bit over-cooked and not terribly sweet. Now the good: - it’s a cute place - the owner(?) was incredibly accommodating, energetic, and kind which made for a nicer experience despite having an unexpected wait. - both the hot and iced coffee we had exceeded our expectations Overall I cannot recommend the donuts here which is a bummer. But as a life-long lover of donuts I encourage you to form your own opinion.

From Florida to Colorado to St Louis to Toronto to New Hampshire....BUT those donut shops didn't have Laurie working for them. Amazing vegan donuts! There used to be a two hour window on Friday nights when Hole would make vegan donuts and they were the most delicious, warm, satisfying donuts I've ever had, vegan or not. Yummy AF! Love the donuts, like seriously in love with these. All others have an identity crisis, but these have their own unique and beautiful thing going on. The staff are happy and fun, even when the doors first open. If you're looking for a gimmick like a monopoly of types or toppings dumped all over your donuts, find another place. They typically have a few flavors of a single kind of donut made to order, hot and delicious. Plain and simple, but oh so good. So so good. Mmmmmm donuts. 😍

With COVID, they are doing all online ordering (even if you are in person - you use a QR code to order online!). We waited 45 minutes for our doughnuts but it was worth every minute. Staff was so friendly and apologetic for the wait but they have no reason to be - these doughnuts are that good! Order in advance and pay attention to pickup time to save yourself some outdoor hanging, if the wait bothers you!

These are, without a doubt, the best donuts I've had in my life. I traveled to Asheville a year ago and visited their shop, and a year later, I was ecstatic to see that their quality and customer service is still just as spectacular as my first visit. If it's available, I highly recommend the toasted sesame almond donut. It's nutty, crunchy, and (like all their donuts) so light and fluffy inside that it's like eating a sugary cloud.

The quality of the product is incomparable as is the friendly service. I really appreciate the beauty of a naturally risen doughnut that has chew, crispiness, deep flavor, and an almost custardy interior. Never have I eaten a doughnut without feeling awful from the sugary sweetness, but Hole is not afraid of salt which makes everything better and balances everything beautifully. The sesame as well as gin, grapefruit, fennel, and orange flavors were inspired and delivered on their promise. The vanilla glazed couldn't have been a more simple yet flavorful basic doughnut. The coffee to go, which I enjoyed black (only way to go), had notes of caramel and chocolate. I'm so glad I got a bag of beans to make french presses at home. I loved the charm of the building and logo, and I can't wait to visit again. The person running the food was so sweet and upbeat, she really made everyone's morning. Don't change a thing, it is genius that you have the daily flavors in a display case, can order online, and enjoy the lovely atmosphere. You all are putting out a fantastic product you should be very proud of. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

I'm a yeast donut lady. My husband is a cake man. What we do agree about is how delicious these donuts are. This morning was my first visit (not my last!) to grab a half dozen for my coworkers at Bari. I ordered half cinnamon sugar, half glazed and one special of the day. I meant to eat the lemon one but when some one else took it, I wasn't even mad- I snagged two to take home, one of each, which tasted just as delicious 6 hours later. The staff were also incredibly friendly and introduced themselves to me with the hopes of a lasting relationship. I know they don't need help promoting their business but I'm incredibly happy to add them to the list of great spots in West Asheville I'll recommend to my clients and hit up again and again.

I can't give this place 5 stars because I've had better doughnuts at half the price. The Donut Shop in Jacksonville, Florida has about 20 varieties, all incredible, and you can get a dozen for $9. A dozen from Hole Doughnuts is $30... and they only have 4 varieties. But I did enjoy my visit here, and the donuts are great. They are fried right in front of you, so they have a nice crispy exterior that you normally don't get with doughnuts. Their website states "Our prices reflect our local ingredient choices and commitment to pay above living wage to our wonderful employees.". That's fair. But prices aside, I've had better doughnuts. The interior is small with rustic decor and antique light fixtures. It's nice. The service was polite.

They are using an online ordering system through a 3rd party that requires you to signup and enter card info through chownow.com. Never heard of it and now being spammed by them. Infuriating and confusing. We saw a half dozen people leave out of frustration. The experience tainted our tastebuds. It was kind of sad watching older people fumble over the online ordering and give up. Actually would not go back if they have the same system. Cash plus online ordering would have alleviated so many troubles.

She does an amazing job with the volume of people. The craft that goes into these doughnuts is something that needs to be taken delicately, patiently and lovingly. The women that run the place certainly do have fun! They're very welcoming and there's a stream of chatter that definitely livens things up. They had four flavors of donuts when I was in and I liked three out of the four. The three I liked were the vanilla glaze, cinnamon sugar and Autumn Orange although the Autumn orange could have been a little more orangey for my tastes. The fourth had sesame seeds on it and just wasn't my jam. The doughnuts have a great consistency and are a little chewy and they are certainly hot and fresh because everything is fried after you order it. The coffee also was good. Prices are reasonable and the decor is charming.

I do like Krispy Kreme and dunkin donuts but they do not compare to Hole Doughnuts! The texture, taste, and atmosphere is great! Making a trip to Asheville isn't complete without Hole. While availability past 12-1pm was once an issue, I've recently come several times past 1pm and they still had donuts left. They make a uniquely chewy, airy and rustic donut noticeably less sweet than the average. There are only 4 flavors with one flavor that rotates weekly, which is always delicious. I recommend getting one staple and one rotating flavor.

The offerings are limited which I assume allows for quality and exceptional and consistentcy as they are made to order right before your eyes. The counter style seating allows visitors to watch the process, it's quite cool to see your donuts getting their flavored glaze applied piping hot and ready to eat. The coffee is fresh and hot and the cherry limeade donuts are my personal favorite. Give it a try if you're in West Asheville you will not be disappointed and you'll leave 'hole'! AT

She interacted with each customer she met and kept them updated on the status of their order. They make them fresh to order and They are perfection. The coffee is really good too. My wife and I are always on the lookout for the new flavor. Their standards...glaze, cocoa rub, and sesame almond are incredible, too.

I've been here twice and really like it. You can watch your donut cooking and then decorated. The help is always friendly and the donut flavors are creative and tasty. A small but great place to start your day when you explore West Asheville.

I thought it was only ok but my wife loved it. The staff was really friendly and the fact they cook the doughnuts fresh while you wait is really cool. The downside for me was there were only four flavors to choose from and they were all rather unique. If they had something more traditional like a cinnamon and sugar doughnut I would probably put it in my top three all time doughnuts but that just me.
