The auto shop didn’t really take or schedule appointments, but fortunately, I had taken the time to go early on a Friday and got all services requested for my car (tire rotation and oil filter change with a tire inspection check) in under an hour! I planned on originally staying at the auto shop for way longer giving a timeframe of 4 hours so they were very efficient! I even got honest feedback that I should get my tires checked at my next service appointment but that it was not urgent. Definitely highly recommend for anyone in the DC/MD area!

Completely reliable. No nonsense, no unnecessary charges. Excellent team. EDITED to add that my car is 17 years old with 210k miles and they have kept it going in great, safe shape. Best thing if you need service is to walk up to the office (to the left of the unrelated convenience store, through the 1st bay on the right) and ask when they can schedule the service. Email may also work.

Don't be turned off by the amount of cars packed into the gas station nor the chaotic vibe. The service here is excellent. I've been here twice for oil changes and neither time did they try to upcharge or sell me on unnecessary things. Very reasonable prices. Brought a friend's car in last week after it was making a noise. No appointment and the guy was super busy, but he still gave me 90 seconds to check out the car and let me know if it was safe to keep running until I could bring it back in. Really appreciated the peace of mind knowing I wasn't about to break down.

Upfront and honest, and great work. The mechanics have always done exceptional work for the 3 years I have been taking my car here. It can be confusing the first visit as you need to walk through the shop to get to the office but then you talk with Otto and appreciate his willingness to explain the work needed and also flag upcoming repairs. I trust that my car is getting the maintenance it needs with no unneeded add ons or up-sales.

Dave and his team replaced the strut on our vehicle. I was happy with the work and the price, but it turned out the knuckle would have to be replaced as well. I talked to Dave on the phone and he seemed excited about doing the follow-up work. Unfortunately, I never heard back from DP Auto Service despite giving them two calls and sending them three emails. I really wanted to like this place, and tried hard to give them my business, but I won't be coming back. Update: After posting my initial review, both David and his service writer contacted me to offer their apologies. Given their apology, I updated my review to four stars, as I have no complaints about their work.

Came in for a tire fix and was worried I'd have a long wait or need to leave my car there since it looked busy. That was not at all the case! The team at DP was super efficient and kind. I had trouble with a missing wheel lock for my car (thankfully didn't end up needing it), and the tech was really patient in helping me search for it. They quickly patched my tire once we realized there was a screw in it, and he even checked all of my other tires and filled them up with some extra air since it's been so cold out. Great service and I will be back in the future!

I've been a DP customer since I moved to DC in 2019, for a variety of needs. They've always been upfront, efficient and effective. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate the attitude David and co run their business with, I always feel like I'm being given straight, fair answers and charged reasonable prices. I trust them wholeheartedly with my car, which is about the highest compliment I can pay a business, particularly one where the expertise imbalance between customer and business is such that it would be easy to charge for work that isn't necessary. Many shops give in to the temptation, but multiple times I've asked whether certain services would be necessary and been told no. DP is great and deserves your business, and I will be sad to eventually move and need to find someone else to replace them.

Dave is the best mechanic. I have a 20 year old car that I hope to drive for 20 more years because of Dave. I have never been condescended to by anyone on his staff and never feel ripped off. In fact, he often charges me less than his estimate and regularly tells me not to bother to fix some stuff. He also lets me order after-market parts myself and then I just pay his team labor costs. Everyone who works there is nice, enormously competent and clearly enjoys their work.

Great people here, especially David, the owner. As a person with only basic car knowledge, this is the first time I've ever really felt like I could trust a mechanic. Just down-to-earth good people and good work. Fast repairs, friendly people, personalized service, inexpensive, and never a hint of them trying to upsell me or charge me for things I didn't need. Getting my alternator replaced cost me about half as much here (including parts and labor) as another place that I had look at it. I can't recommend this place enough; I'll be coming back to DP Auto Service whenever I have any other car issue. You should too.

I was helped immediately by a very nice gentleman and his son. He found a nail in my tire and the son helped with the tools. The tire was fixed and I was on my way in less than 15 minutes. I would definitely recommend this place!!!

DP Auto Service is awesome! I had a check engine light illuminated. I have a device to get the fault code. I also did hours of research trying to figure out what was wrong and what part I needed. It had something to do with an oxygen sensor. I purchased a sensor and called in to have it replaced, letting them know what sensor I had. Lo and behold, I got the wrong brand and not the original equipment manufacturer, and instead some aftermarket part. DP Auto told me to look up the part for a specific brand that Toyota's use, and I did. While Lexus (owned by Toyota) was quoting me $420 for the parts and labor plus a mandatory $150 diagnostic fee, I panicked a bit and said no. The dealership was charging $237+tax for the part alone! I went the route of doing the diagnostic work and ordering the part myself for about $65. I went to DP Auto and got the part replaced the day of in about an hour The cost was very fair for the labor. To sum it up, I took a chance, did the diagnostic, and it's on me if it didn't work out. However, I have no more check engine light and couldn't be more relieved. I hate those dash board warning lights, and I've put this off for too long.

David at DP Auto is easily the best mechanic I've ever worked with. He helped fix a problem on my car that had been and issue for 6+ months that no other mechanic seemed able to figure out. The car is running better than ever now. David was able to show me the issue on my car, and test it while I was there to see what the issue was. Ive never had a mechanic be so quick or transparent in that way. Additionally the price was very fair/good, and the car was ready quickly, exactly within the time window that David said it would be. Then I moved out of the immediate area, just far enough that a person might not want to make the trek back to DP. But guess what? I’ve been going here for 4 years. David and his team are great at both reactive and preventative maintenance. Over the course of 4 years here I’ve had them fix all sorts of issues w/my 15 year old Honda— AC, power steering, a flat, normal wear and tear. My car wouldn’t start and after looking at some google reviews decided to go to DP. Everyone there was very friendly, and knowledgeable. My car was dropped off by a tow tuck, and it was ready to get picked up by the end of the day. I needed a new starter. Prices were fair (which is unusual when I go in because I’m a woman and sometimes car shops think they can rip me off). Would recommend, and I will definitely be bringing my car back if there are anymore issues.

Being new to DC I was relying on reviews to find a solid auto shop in town. My experience with Dave at DP couldn't have been better! My steering wheel had been rattling for months, after taking it to 2 shops, the first quoted over 1k to fix, the 2nd said they couldn't fix the problem. Dave took a look at it and let me know he had run into this before and Hyundai had actually sent out a recall for this exact problem. While my car didn't qualify to be repaired under the recall I was beyond impressed that he suggested I go that route vs making the money from the repair. In the end he fixed the problem for a fraction of what I was quoted at by other shops. And also noticed a flat tire that I didn't even realize I had! Couldn't have asked for better value or service!

Fall 2017 Update: Seriously, the reviews about this independent business are true. Just this last month Dave has responded to 2 emergency issues with our cars. This week I told my fiancee - "this is the mark of an honest shop" - when Dave quickly identified exhaust and electrical issues correctly, conceded his crew could not achieve the needed repairs, and referred us to respective specialists nearby. And his referrals were spot on. One of them - Rayco Auto in Silver Spring - got my piping work completed in an hour at a fair price. Finally, it should be noted that the night drop system with the Shell staff is easy and you can leave your car after hours on their lot. Super convenient. First review: Dave and his crew are reasonable and trustworthy - real special in this industry. They have earned my family's business for years.

I have been going to DP Auto Service since David took over. I trust them. They charge fair prices and don't pad the bill. I learn about my car by talking to them (rotors aren't supposed to look like records???), which I really appreciate as someone who would otherwise know next to nothing about a vehicle I depend on literally every day.

Rolled up to DP Auto without a reservation this morning, looking for a quick oil change on my 93 Accord. The place was already packed at 10 AM on a Saturday and I wondered whether or not they'd be able to fit me in. I also asked for a few other small things, like checking my tires, making sure my battery bolts were tight,a removing a rusty rotor protector plate. First time was to have my rear tire patched up for a nail and the second time was to get the tires checked and make sure my car was ready for a long trip. This is a great, no nonsense place to get your car fixed. Payed less than 2/3 the price every other mechanic in the area quoted me on for brake pads. Prior to this, I was told that I may need new rotors, but the guys at DP told me they were fine even though they could have tried to get me to buy them. Service was quick too.

A nail pierced my tire and left me on a busy workday with a flat. I found DP Auto the night before on google and am glad I did. It was quite busy in the morning, with many cars in line. That said, they fixed the tire quickly and charged a fair price. Very happy and will definitely be back.

I just picked my car up from taking it back to DP as the engine light came back on. After talking with the owner he took another look and changes my spark plugs that were misfiring. Thank you for resolving this issue. This is a stand up shop. Took my car up with engine light on and he said it was my ignition switch. Cost me $280 I get in my car this morning and my check engine light is back on. Needless to say I am not having a very good morning and I'm very upset. The Owner saw a review I posted earlier and took the time to call me. I will be taking my car back up there to see if he can fix the issue. I appreciate him taking his time out of his day to reach out to me.

I will literally drive out of my way to come here over any other body shop. The staff is incredibly honest, kind, FAST and won't try to sell you on other services you don't need. I'm here for a regular oil change and check up right now, but last time I was up in Gaithersburg with a flap of God knows what hanging off my under carriage making the most horrendous noise driving down 270, and I drove all the way here just to get it checked. Yes, I looked ridiculous. Yes, I sounded like my car was going to explode at any second. But I wouldn't have taken it to any other place but DP. Plus, while you wait you can run to cvs across the street or get coffee at politics and prose😬

I've been a customer of David's for almost three years. He's very laid back and listens very well and has helped me keep my 2003 Ford Explorer on the road by replacing general wear-and-tear items like CV joints, rotors and pads, amongst other things. In other words, I've spent a lot of money on his services. I have no complaints at all about his prices and I trust him and his labor costs have been fair and the work done well. While I am probably more knowledgeable than most about cars, I value his opinion. While I get too involved on my own when it comes to repairs, he has kindly advised me when not to spend money. In addition, he picks up the phone virtually every time I need him.

VW Jetta 2012: Had check engine light on need a part replaced to get the light off. Got a very high quote and run around from VW service dealer. Called David and received immediate answer that he could help. He was able to take me right away. Took the time to research the piece needed to fix and get engine light off before inspection (while I was sitting next to him). In the end, car passed inspection following needing to drive many miles to get internal computer system to reset. - Work was done in a very reasonable time frame. - Price quote was reasonable. The part itself was a bit more than expected. No fault of DP. - David is very good about answering the phone and is very patient! - David takes time to explain things and seems to be very confident and experienced. In my opinion, he runs a good shop and is pretty popular among the locals. I recommend DP if you are looking for a straight forward and honest mechanic. Keep up the good work! - Chris

I've taken it to multiple mechanics who couldn't figure out the problem, but David solved it quickly and with minimal expense. It was amazing he could identify the issue so swiftly. My experience here was first rate. I was visiting D.C., to drop my daughter off at school, when my oil light came on. After putting a quart off oil in, no oil was on the dip stick. I looked under the car and oil was everywhere. I was in an unfamiliar city and had no idea where to go. I Googled closest service station and proceeded to DP first thing in the morning. Upon arrival, I was asked what the problem has and my car was immediately on the lift and attended to. Turns out I had oil changed in New York the day before and the filter was installed wrong. Simple inexpensive fix. I was at their mercy and they treated me right. I can't say enough good things about the place. I want to thank the owner and mechanics for turning my nightmare around.

He doesn't have great people skills, but I don't care about people skills when I drive away from mechanic. I care about whether my car is fixed. He's our go-to guy, and for good reason.

Brought my mom's van to DP Auto to fix a problem other mechanics couldn't figure out. When it was finally diagnosed Dave said he called the dealer and they couldn't sell him the part because it was part of a recall. I asked if he could buy it aftermarket and he said yes, but if it was part of a recall, the dealer would fix for free. He could easily have just fixed and charged me for it. Turns out there was no free fix through the dealer recall, so Dave was persistent and finally got them to sell him the part (the dealer wanted me to get it fixed there, of course). He took the time to get it done, and with the right part, even though it took extra time out of his (very busy) day. I'm so, SO happy to have found a talented and honest mechanic and in such close proximity to my mom. I have found my new mechanic for life (or as long as I'm here caring for her!)

I usually go to my dealership, but for whatever reason they never resolved the squeaks the car made going over bumps. David assessed what was needed for no charge. I brought it back for service and the squeaks are gone! A couple of other issues were fixed.

After having a tire bust, I did an online search for auto shops in DC and I called DP Auto. David quickly went and picked up the specialty tire the same day and put it on--for less than a few other places in town. As bad luck would have it, my fiancée hit the same road hazard nearby and the same tire was punctured! We promptly went back to David and we couldn't believe it. The alternator went in my Old Aurora. I took it to these guys and they were straight up. They told me my car probably wasn't worth what it cost to fix it. They allowed me to keep the car there until I could get it donated/traded in. They had no reason to be so patient with me, but they were, and it made a huge difference in a stressful time.
