The front office let me down today. I have always received excellent and professional service, but not so much this time. I was given an estimate with unnecessary services like expensive gas and oil additives and an expensive cabin air filter that I didn't request. The cost to diagnose and repair a routine item was seven times more than another reputable shop. The experience was similar to a dealership, premium prices and upselling extras. My estimate also included a service that I recently completed at JAM that is only necessary every 30k, it was a clerical mistake, and the price was also fifty dollars more than it was six months ago. I always receive excellent work from the mechanics. The employees at JAM are very nice and courteous, and I trust them with my vehicle. But, not sure I'll go back. They let me down time time.

2002 Toyota 4Runner [284k miles] experiencing high vibration at speeds above 50mph. After attempting repair myself, Auto Masters pulled the out-of-balance vibrating drive shaft and balanced it (who knew!) and the car runs quieter and smoother than ever (and the drive shaft looks new). Text message service and multi-point inspection provided as courtesy and loaner car available if needed. And after hours pick up on a Friday (paid over the phone). Easy day. With a 94% 5-star rating review, it's seemed an easy choice to give 'em a try...now i see why.

The car had not been on the road in over 5 years and needed an expert's attention to bring everything back to life. During the process, David has been fantastic to work with. I've been going to Japanese Auto Masters since the 1980's. I had a new Subaru and the Auto dealership wanted to install a new clutch. Japanese Auto adjusted the clutch for $10. When my new car developed suspicious issues at the Lexus dealership I switched it over to Japanese Auto. They have done almost everything to my cars over the years and answered every question I've had. I don't go anywhere else.

They don't only work on imports! I took my Dodge Caravan in for some high mileage routine service. I needed the transmission fluid changed and another local shop said they weren't able to do it and the dealership never called back. Japanese Auto Masters was VERY easy to make an appointment. They have a great system that will text you quotes that you can accept or decline services depending on what you would like them to do. They ended up finding a couple other small issues that I'll fix myself (headlight bulbs out). But had then change the brake fluids as well. Service was fast and clean.

A couple of weeks ago I had some good amount of work done on my 4Runner. My truck originally went in for an oil change and break job but when the "technician", Tommy, called me he said...'I know you came in for an oil change and break job, but I need to tell you what I found'...LONG story short, Japanese Auto Masters (JAM) went ABOVE and BEYOND to explain to me in detail what was needed to be done and encouraged me to come by to show me exactly what he was talking about. I obliged and went in and he walked me all around my truck, on a lift, and showed me and explained everything we had talked about on the phone. I was sold then that JAM was on the up and up. I received a discount for a first time customer, and we were able to shave a few bucks off certain parts. I have been so IMPRESSED with their customer service, their attention to detail, their warranty, and just the overall professionalism and NICENESS of everyone I encountered. So refreshing to know you aren't getting ripped off. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! EXCELLENT SERVICE!

I have a 2005 Toyota Highlander with the AC not working, it was blowing warm air. After much research and high ratings, I came across this business. Went on their website to send an email inquiring about getting it fixed and an estimated cost. They replied promptly, within a day. I set up an appt, when my dad and I dropped off the car, we were met with Joe the advisor. Told him our concerns and said he would give us a call once the car was finished. They sent us an estimated thru text and we were able to approve that est thru text which I thought was cool. The tech R. Bernier was awesome and was able to fix the AC! My dad and I also thought it was reasonable priced on how much he paid for. Overall, the staff was super nice, informative, very easy to schedule and would come again!

After reading countless positive reviews, I chose Japanese Auto Masters for my 2010 Prius and 2011 Corolla. Taking my cars to a new service station is never a fun process, but they made it VERY easy. They gave each car a thorough lookover and let me know what needed to be done now, in the near future and in the not-so-near future. I was THOROUGHLY impressed with the way they delivered the information on my cars to me. Via text they sent me a full detail report for each car. With photos showing a worn part and what needed to be fixed. I liked this SO much better than being blindsided with a phone call saying I needed XYZ and put on the spot. They were fast with the service, everyone I came into contact with was friendly, and I felt zero pressure to get service I know I didn't need. Can't say that's been the case everywhere else. The pricing for everything I had done (brake fluid flush, transmission fluid flush, new brake light and oil change) was also very reasonable. I will 100% be going back with all of my vehicles! Feels nice to have found a service station like this.

I was referred by a friend to take my vehicle to Japanese Auto Masters and also have heard good things on Nextdoor neighborhood app. I took my vehicle in for State Inspection and the service I received was very good. I need a couple of things done to pass inspection that need to be fixed and the price was very reasonable. The staff is great and friendly and always keeping you informed of the progress of your vehicle while it's there. I found my go to place when ever I need car repairs. I highly recommend Japanese Auto Masters to anyone looking for an honest place to take your cars too.

Thank goodness we found this place. Our 2003 Camry was running rough with shaking and a flashing check engine light. I was able to have the car towed to their shop the day of the repair. They diagnosed the CE light and found the “new” spark plugs I had replaced by another shop a few years prior were indeed not new at all. The also repaired a broken radiator fan. Now the Camry drives smooth and like new. We couldn’t be more happy with the results. They had great communication throughout the process too. I highly recommend this place to service your Toyota. I’m so glad I decided to trust the Google reviews and try this business. I have a 2005 Lexus that has relatively low mileage. I had several instrument panel lights come on. Scheduled an appointment, they checked out the problems, explained what the immediate and underlying issues were. I okayed the estimate, they delivered on the repair on time and I swear the car is driving better than it was when it was gifted to me nearly 4 years ago. I would not hesitate to use them again. They are professional, courteous, friendly and I definitely feel like I got great work at a reasonable cost

I had a great experience with Japanese Auto Masters. David was very informative about my services and was able explain the origin of the problems. He also provided other services that my car was needing with my lack of maintenance to my vehicle. Everything was also done in a timely manner. Dropping off my car on a Friday and having it ready Monday. Other minor repairs are needed, but having parts shipped, I am able to drop off the car once they have the parts. I highly recommend this repair shop and do plan on having future services done with them.

I brought my vehicle in for service first thing in the morning (at 8a) and received it right before closing on a Friday. The JAM team was able to address all my issues going in (change transmission fluid, inspect my brakes, address my air conditioning not blowing cold) and recommended additional services as they saw fit with their free diagnostics service (for customers who already paid for a different service). I felt like they had my best interest in mind and did not feel sketched out or ripped off at any point. Pricing I would say is fair for the amount of work involved. I will be returning for my second service in a couple weeks to address different issues. Only thing that sucks is they aren't open on the weekends! I will 100% recommend JAM to anyone with JDM vehicles that need services done, these guys are awesome!!

First time here and will be back. Had thought I needed new brake pads and turns out I needed only the power steering flushed and filled. They were able to do all this in a matter of hours and had a very comprehensive digital inspection form which helped a lot to get a feel for other things that may need replacing. My Honda Element was a tricky one to fix! It was running rich and stalling every time I came to a stop. I went to three previous mechanics within 3 weeks trying to get it fixed before being referred to Japanese Auto Masters. After only a couple of days, they were able to determine the problem and fix it. They were all so friendly and quick to communicate. I highly recommend them!

JAM was recommended by a friend. We move around a lot so are always searching for good trustworthy local auto repair that takes care of what you need done and doesn’t send you home with new issues or poorly done work.....because I can do that myself for a lot less money. These guys got both our cars in early and were in touch regarding the work way before i expected to hear from them. Totally satisfied and they have my absolute highest recommendation. We’re moving again so our search will begin anew but for folks in the VA Beach area you’ve got a fantastic option to the big dealerships for repair work.

I was purchasing a used Nissan and went for car to be inspected before finalizing purchase to verify there were no major problems. They gave car thorough inspection and emailed Detailed list of entire car inside and out. What needs to be done and what looks good. Even took pictures! Brought my car in for a state inspection at the end of February and had a really great experience. I made the appointment online, then dropped off my car with no problems. A few hours later their team text me a link to my “Digital Vehicle Inspection.” It showed the technicians who worked on my car and all the inspection details (good and bad). They made it REALLY easy to figure out what I needed to fix to pass inspection. The team was also very accommodating when I had to bring the car back to check that I’d fixed what was wrong with the car. Bonus: they left me a stick of juicy fruit gum and sent me a thank you note with a referral reward! I will definitely be going back!

Their appointment system works real well, I was on time and the person who checked me in was very courteous and friendly, he knew who I was when I walked in the door. They took my car in promptly and were finished in a reasonable time and best of all, they always do a full inspection on the car and brought to my attention items that need attention. They did find several items but they were presented and explained in a courteous manner without any pressure to get them done. p.s. - I do like their little gifts of appreciation that are found either in the waiting room or on the check in/out counter or left in the car when you leave.

My wife and I had our vehicle worked on here previously and there had been a minor issue with the work from before. Tommy (owner) personally met with my wife and I and offered to even have the vehicle towed to the shop if needed on their bill. The work was done very well and everything is good to go. I had a last minute state inspection due and no other shop was able to take me without dropping off the night beforehand. Tommy answered my call and offered to do the inspection himself that same day. When I dropped off my car, Tommy had run out quick for a car part but had told the front desk man exactly who I was and to expect me. He was so nice! He checked me in and got Tommy setup to inspect my car. My husband and I had errands to run together so Tommy called me when he was finished- it was within an hour and a half. Great customer service! I’ll definitely go back and I highly recommend to others.

The service I received was excellent! I had a drive belt and AC belt changed. The price was absolutely reasonable (based off a price comparison I did with the dealer and a couple other places) and my car got repaired even though I couldn't get time off from work to get there during business hours. My recent experience was my first time going to Japanese Auto Masters, and I was very impressed from the start. My vehicle with 120,000 miles was having some serious clutch issues. The owner Tom from the start was interested in finding out the real problem, and he wanted to have his technicians look over the vehicle. He didn’t want to sell me something I didn’t need. He even welcomed an outside estimate from my normal maintenance shop. I ended up needing to have the whole clutch replaced, and now my vehicle drives like new. Thank you, Japanese Auto Masters!

The owners and the crew at Japanese Auto Masters are great! I bring all of my cars to them for service. I appreciate being able to trust my automobiles to them, knowing the job will get done really well. Honest and professional. I went in with an unknown electrical problem and didn't know what to expect and how much out-of-pocket expenses it would cost me. Luckily it was a minor issue that some other shops could have easily took advantage of. I was so impressed with her honesty that I went ahead and had my tires and alignment done there. What person wants to have a major repair done to their car? Well, we all know the answer to that one. I recently had to have a major repair done for the a/c on my Honda and Japanese Auto Masters worked with me to make sure this is what really had to be done. They had me come back anytime the a/c was not working so they could check it and make sure I really needed a major job done. I can't imagine any other dealership service department or independent repair facility going out of their way like this. They have been incredible many other times but they truly made a painful repair a great experience. They are truly masters at their craft and treat their customers with true professionalism. Their customer service, the quality of their work, and their fair prices are second to none. My only complaint WOULD be that there isn't a branch in Chesapeake. I take all of my cars here. Currently we have a 2014 Mazda CX-5, 2008 Dodge Challenger, and 2019 Hyundai Tucson. They have superior attention to detail as each vehicle requires different spec fluids and they have always put the correct in. When having engine bay work done at this shop, it has been my experience that the engine bay has been cleaner than when I took it to them. This shows pride in their work. Their prices are in line with other shops in the VA Beach area, but the difference is, I have not had to bring any of my vehicles back for the same issue. On the 2019 Hyundai, we were offered free oil changes for life from the dealership and when I went to check the oil in the vehicle, the engine bay looked like hell and it was overfilled with oil. I will be bringing it to Japanese Auto Masters from here on as they take pride in their work. They are honest, and the worst I can say is I have had to leave my vehicle there a day extra due to availability of parts. I am willing to wait a day to get the correct part and have it done right. I always have a good experience at the Japanese Auto Masters. I like this company because they always thoroughly quiz me on whatever difficult problem I may have. They solve the problem, correct it, and they do it so thoroughly that I've never have to take it back for a "do over." I've been a customer for over ten years. and my car is over 15 years old. They are extremely honest and in many cases have told me that items, others would have suggested I need done right away, have urged me to wait and look at the problem the next time or the following time. Today my repairs were going to take almost all day. I said no problem I'll UBER myself home. They said not a problem we'll have one of our office people drive you home and pick you back up. You got to love them. Note: this may not be available to all customers. Probably just old seniors with a 15 year old cars.

Their: professional, friendly mannered, and excellent work staff has never had me second guessing the quality of work they provide. My only comment is I wish they had a coupon for overall work done and not just for specific jobs (brakes, clutch, tire rotation, etc) It would be nice if a loyal customer discount or "Welcome back" discount was availble- especially when you are a returning customer. That's my only comment. From the tow- being phoned in between work- and currently awaiting to hear back regarding car status and grand total- I know I'm in good hands. Great shop! For that last two years I have not had heat in my truck because I was told by AAA that my head was warped and due to the type of engine, my engine would have to be replaced for 7,000 (truck is probably worth that). Heard about Japanese Auto Masters from a friend so I took it to them for a 2nd opinion hoping for a different diagnosis. Long story short, it was the heater coil and they replaced for a great price. Japanese Auto Masters was recommended by a friend. I needed my tranny fluid flushed and changed, but knew it required a specific type. David assured me that what they use is compatible with Toyota's WS ATF. I was concerned as my experience with auto shops is not the best. But, given my friends satisfaction with their service, I requested the tranny fluid and brake fluid be flushed and changed and the front and rear differential fluid and transfer fluid be changed. They did a superb job. No issues at all with the truck and the price was very fair. They also called me to say that I needed to replace my wiper blades and cabin filter. I have them the go-ahead. This was by far the best repair facility I’ve dealt with in a long time, I usually do my own work, but this time was concerned that the breaking of my timing belt caused more damaged, so on the recommendation of a friend I gave them a call. I'm so impressed with Japanese Auto Masters. Simply, they do great business. Mechanics are expensive, that part stinks, but at least this group is honest and fair. I requested to have issues investigated before having them proceed further. Work wasn't done unless I authorized it. Based on cost estimates I decided what I'd like them to do, and what I thought I could handle on my own to save a little. This isn't the easiest workflow for them I'm sure, but they supported what I wanted each step of the way without issue. When it turned out they'd need my car into the next day, they let me borrow a loaner for free. Everyone at JAM is polite and treated me, and each other, with respect. I brought my daughters car in for a tire rotation, wheel balance and front end alignment. I love the digital maintenance advisory that they send via email with pictures and recommendations on the work that should be done. There's never any real pressure to do the work. In fact that is my only complaint this time. When I was on the phone with Joe he did mention that the cabin air filter needed to be replaced but he didn't mention that the water pump was leaking and the transmission fluid should be flushed and replaced. I would've had the work done while the car was already there. I didn't see that it needed this work until my daughter had already picked up her car and I check my email later that night. Now we're taking the car back again to get the work done. No worries, the work will get done before she has to drive back to college. I wouldn't take it anywhere else!

I've twice taken my ol 1995 Toyota Corolla to them for service. The first time was for a leak in the exhaust flex pipe. Being somewhat mechanically-curious (I'll stay away from saying inclined), I thought about fixing it myself, until I saw the nice amount of rust on the bolts on the exhaust system. The guys at the shop cut out the bad flex pipe and welded in a new one, and it's been good from then on. They had the car in and out quickly. Second time was due to more rust-related issues (brake hard lines rotted through). The techs there were great, and it was a looooong job with cutting and flaring all the new lines (5 in all, brake and fuel) and even had to drop the tank to get a good connection. Got the car back and paid what I though to be a fair price for the labor. Then I heard a small clunk noise for the next day. I called the shop and told them and they said I could bring it by and they'll have a look at it. Once I brought it in, they brought me back into the service area and had me explain my concern, put it up on the lift, and saw a loose hose clamp. They tightened it back up, and was back on my way without charge. I suppose the labor charge can be a little high compared to some, but I'm more than happy to pay a little more knowing that they stand behind their repairs and won't cut corners in order to hack their way through a job. I'd recommend them!

We found JAM when we first moved to Virginia Beach and had troubles with an old Honda Pilot with over 240k miles that my husband refuses to put to rest. Recently I took my Subaru there to be diagnosed with a transmission issue. JAM took the time to do the research and advised me about a warranty extension that Subaru made for this same issue on their vehicles. Even though my car was over the mileage limit of the warranty, JAM suggested I give them a call because they felt Subaru would honor the warranty. Thank YOU JAM!! IF you didn't take the time to do the research for me I would have never have known!! The work is being covered by the extended warranty saving me over $5,000!!! My experience at Japanese Auto Masters was amazing. I haven't had car issues for probably about 10 years, so my anxiety level was very high. Of course, my issue I felt was very random as well because of how it presented in the car. Joe took his time in communicating with me, he was patient, he told me they'd find the issue and fix it: and they did! I was thankful to borrow their loaner car over the weekend as it was the one weekend I actually had plans I had to travel to. 15/10 experience. Car issues are never fun, but it's nice to be able to find a repair facility you can trust and with the bonus of one that takes their time communicating with you.
