Love that it is such a clean and nice facility!(which is rare for an automotive shop) It was so nice that they had a fun kids area with toys for my kids to play with. I could finally take a break and relax while my car was getting looked at. Great staff, great service, great facility! I will always use McNeil's!

Erica is one of the best service advisors; great communicator, honest, and very knowledgeable. If the mechanics forget to do something she will make sure it happens before getting your car back to you. I admit their services can be expensive but you can't put a price on peace of mind.

I had a great experience with McNeil’s Auto Care. I locked my key fob inside my Mercedes Sprinter. The driver/technician, Mike, was able to quickly and safely open the door and retrieve my fob. Man words can't even describe this place, the staff were so nice and straight forward. I came in to get new tires on and that was it. They went ahead and checked all my fluids and battery and took pictures of everything they were doing. I have never had any other place do this and it was just outstanding. Erica is AMAZING! She goes above and beyond every time we come in. She is so kind to my kids (my dog when I had to bring him), is so incredibly fair and honest and kind. Last time I went in for an oil change, she proactively checked into my registration, and quickly got the appropriate inspections, registered for me, and even put my new stickers on the car. Simply put they are methodical and track everything and anything on your car. They have advanced software and technicians that tie both pre-and post maintenance items. That does not mean you have to do everything they say, but they let you know with every option is. I’ve never been forced, manipulated, or pressured into any repair or maintenance item. I have had seven vehicles over the years and in all states of maintenance needed and they were fair. My only beef I have is when my 17-year-old daughter brought her car in, and they gave her a list of 20 items of scary/!/Red / critical items that had to be done… and all of the issues were Mundane And we could do it on garage at home… I know they’re a business and need to make money but praying on children and women makes me a little bit suspicious… My children already know where they should put blinker fluid so, this didn’t sit right for me, especially when I’m teaching my kids not to be taken advantage of a workshop. However they always give an option of versus a list of everything should do is really really different. And I have a constant budget I believe that’s just predatory. I now go to McNeil‘s with an eyebrow raised every time we visit them… I know they’re experts in their field but yes daddy Hass to watch out for the kids every time they go to the Shop then it’s not a safe shp in my opinion.

**Edited: Since writing my previous review, the owner of the company reached out to me and apologized for the double charge for my diagnosis and sent me a refund check. This is how customer service should be! Thank you McNeil's for taking care of your customers. I will definitely be back and recommend you to others.** I've had such a great experience with McNeil's previously, so I was a little disappointed this time to not have the same service and attention to detail. When I first dropped my vehicle off I specifically said that one of the many things that I needed done was replacement of the crankshaft position sensor. I had researched the check engine code as well as the symptoms my car was experiencing, and was confident that this was the issue. After paying for multiple repairs including the check engine inspection and a repair that the technician reported would fix the engine issues I was having (not the crankshaft position sensor as I had requested), I picked my vehicle up, drove it for 1/2 a day, and began experiencing the same issues as before (related to the crankshaft position sensor), along with the check engine light on again. I had also asked for my headlight to be replaced and it was still out. I had specifically timed my car repairs during a time when I would have a replacement vehicle to drive while my daughter was home from college for spring break, but when I got my car back she had to go back to school. So I had to wait 2 more weeks to bring my car back until I could find a loaner again. When I brought it back I was charged once again for the check engine light inspection, even though it was already done previously when I told them it needed the crankshaft sensor replaced. The technician's findings were that it did indeed need the crankshaft position sensor replaced. The headlight was also replaced again, stating that the filament was bad on the first replacement. I'm unsure why this was not tested before. The work was eventually completed and I was treated well by everyone there and appreciate their work, but it's frustrating that the original issue wasn't fixed in the first place and that I had to pay twice for the check engine light and be without my vehicle again.

I am new to the McNeill auto family but I’ve been welcomed and treated with timely advice, cheerful and polite service by EVERYONE, and felt genuinely listened to and treated with respect! I’ve found my new go-to auto service center. They found the problem, told me to take it to a GMC dealership where I could have it fixed for no charge, and even advised me to wait on my brakes (that I’d given the go ahead to fix since I thought they needed done) because I still had some ‘life’ left in them. They also took care of my car renewal registration charging nothing for that service. They’ve definitely proven to me that they are here to serve and advise honestly on what’s best for me without trying to find a way to earn a dollar. They are conscientious, easy to get an appointment with, ready to put my needs first, and thorough. They have earned my trust and respect!!

This is the only place I trust. I've tried several shops and ended up having to take my car to another shop for more extensive repair than when it went in. Iback in the day, I serviced my own vehicles or let friends do it in their off hours because I could trust them. McNeil' s is so extensive with their communication, you get pictures and a report before they touch anything. Very transparent, clean, and professional.

I was worried I would have to get my car jumped and then still drive somewhere else to get a new battery, but McNeils had me covered! Super easy and quick. They fixed the minor problem and had some suggested repairs. They did a steam clean of the engine and it messed up something with the electrical system which they haven't figured out yet. Thankfully they gave me a loaner car but it's been 3 business days with no answers so far. Update, they rebuilt the electrical system and also covered the cost of a rental car when our other vehicle broke down. Service above and beyond. I will definitely recommend them to others!

My daughter had to get some work done on her car. Our service advisor was excellent at communicating and working with us to get the vehicle in and out as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an inexpensive repair, but I felt like they were honest about doing only what needed to be done to get her car safely back on the road. This probably isn’t the cheapest place to get a repair done but they stand behind their work and I feel comfortable knowing they did quality work and that my daughter’s car is safe again and running as it should.

I also had an emissions test. Everything was great. The car was ready sooner than I expected. I didn't have to wait for a service advisor for the appointment, car drop-off, or pick-up. I had the tires rotated. Since I bought them at McNeills, they rotate for free. This was overlooked and I was charged. I called back and was given credit for the amount I was charge.

My car has a warranty through the car company I bought my car from. The car dealership recommended McNeills and I took it there, the check engine light comes on and off my used 2016 Kia Optima. They diagnosed it and then said “ well it needs a special tool to get to the part to fix it, it’s common in Kia but can only be fixed by Kia. The nice gentlemen that helped me charged me for the diagnose but a few days later they called back and felt that since they couldn’t do the work they refunded me the amount of the diagnoses and gave a free order change for my inconvenience. Very professional and polite team in Sandy.

As always, the team at McNeil's is professional with their communication and work. They have been my go-to shop for years for their honesty and integrity of work. Although I could grab a Groupon for another shop cheaper, I continue to get my emissions and registration done at McNeil's as I trust their work and will happily support a local business. And unlike other "quick lube" places, they will inform you of everything that needs attention, but never pressure you into spending money unless it is a safety issue. By far the most dependable, reliable fairly priced and honest mechanics I've been to. They back and guarantee their work. I went in for an oil change and my car is a bit older. The drain screw over time stripped the inside part of the oil pan so they replaced the entire thing for me. Definitely recommend them to all my friends and family. I've been trying to get my review posted for months but this magically only appeared to other users when I finally rated them 5 stars, they simply pay google to remove negative reviews which is a massive red flag. My car was in your shop for a week because it wouldn't start. After I got a message it was done I asked if the car started. Turns out you had been replacing some headlight control panel the whole time and had no clue what I was talking about. It had to remain in the shop for another week, during which I was charged for ANOTHER diagnostic fee. I was told the problem was fixed but upon arriving home my car promptly broke down again with the same issue I brought it in for. I paid nearly $400 for absolutely nothing, and you wanted to charge me $600 but I had to point out that you were overcharging me, then you moaned and whined about how you were "eating the cost." I don't know if you were knowingly scamming me or just hilariously incompetent, but the fact that my review keeps mysteriously disappearing is making me think the former.

McNeil’s provides the service workers for AAA, so low and behold, my car wouldn’t start so put in a call to AAA. I was told an approximate time for the technicians arrival. I got a call from Kim about 20 minutes out to let me know she was on the way. She arrived and got right to work. She was was awesome, and super friendly. The battery in my 2020 Subaru Ascent has died 3 times in the past few months. Each time a quick jump start has worked. Subaru assures me there’s nothing wrong with the battery or the car’s electrical system. When TJ came out from McNeil’s to do the jump this time he explained that newer cars like mine have so much electrical gadgetry that is at work all the time that it can easily overwhelm the battery. I was very pleased that TJ took the time to explain.

I rated 3 stars because initial experience was sub par. There were many things, including diagnostics, a week to have work completed, returned with low tire pressure. Appx a week after picking up car, engine light was back on. Mcneils performed a diagnostic, charged $127, said they need to look further for another $250, but not sure they'll find the issue. I took my car elsewhere, they found the issue immediately( which Mcneils should have determined since it was same area they just worked on.) This other place did not charge for the diagnostic, and suggested I go back to Mcneils. I did that and they ultimately fixed the issue for no additional charge. Good for them to owning up to their shortcoming! I appreciate them "hearing" my concerns and making it right. They went from a 5, to a 0, back up to a 2.5 rating.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Was recommended by the AAA tow truck driver (who was an employee of this shop). Should have been my first clue. They didn't mention there was a diagnosis charge before I took it there. I told them what was wrong. I didn't need them to diagnose it. They did their own inspection and told me the car needed brakes as well. They then gave me a price. I asked how much those were individually. He gave me a price separate. I called back and said I didn't want the brakes done. All of the sudden the alternator went up in price. That's when he mentioned the diagnoses. That wasn't part of the original quote. He said the Diagnoses was $150. Then I said the numbers don't make sense. So he comes back with a lower number. I say it still doesn't make sense. If you are charging what you first quoted me and ad $150 its a different number. They get you in there and try to get more money out of you. Since my car was dead I just had them fix the alternator so I could drive it. I called three other places that where less expensive. Shame on AAA as well. ****UPDATE**** Troy took the time to reach out to me. He admitted that the communication was poor and that the salesman made some errors in how they do things. He also listened to my concerns and was very professional. They took my review serious and looked in to the problem promptly. They did make it right and I have no complaints of the actual work that was done.

Coming home from a long day at work, my truck suddenly lost power to the drive train. I coasted to the shoulder and attempted to troubleshoot the problem, bit couldn't get the truck to move in any gear. I called AAA for a tow and was told that they would send a tow truck to take my truck to the garage of my choice, but I would have to find another way to get there myself. I was 40 miles from home and it was beginning to snow. I was in the process of calling family for a ride when the tow driver, Red, called me to say he was 15 minutes out from my position and when I told him about my situation, he gladly volunteered to let me ride with him to the shop. Red was very professional and proficient. He had my truck loaded and we were on our way in 5 minutes. My wife was able to meet us at the shop instead of having to drive another 15 miles to pick me up. Red provided great service and made a bad situation much better. Thank you Red.

I brought my car in at around 10 I clock in a Saturday morning. By 1 I clock they had diagnosed the issue to a bad wheel bearing. They ordered the part and had me back on the road by 3:30. Manny was great. He went over a full inspection report and worked with me to find the right balance of needed maintenance. It's a clean comfortable atmosphere with a large full service shop so they can handle any needs. With my AAA discount I payed significantly less than I would have for the same repair at the dealership.

Great service! Friendly and knowledgeable staff told me what was wrong and gave me all the options, including less expensive ones. I had to have an ignition coil replaced, 8 spark plugs and have steering and coolant fluids replaced. I knew exactly what this was because I experienced it before, so I am comfortable with them telling me what the problem was. I called two other shops and the dealership (who has always been my one stop shop) and their prices were competitive. Since they are a AAA Club member and so am I, there is a discount available. First time I wasn't made to feel like a blonde when walking into a car shop (I brought my husband with me just in case as many of these places think that if you're a woman, they can treat you terribly. The purpose of my visit was to have McNeil's perform a maintenance check of a used car I was looking to buy from a "private seller." I chose the shop based on the reviews, and because it was an independent mechanic near the area where I was testing out the car. While the car appeared to be immaculate on the outside, and I was informed it was a 1 owner car, after the testing was complete, I was thankfully steered away from purchasing the vehicle as it was a mechanical mess! Further, while the results of the check were been detailed for me, Troy said he recognized the man selling me the car as someone who had been in before with potential buyers, and that he was not a "private seller" at all, rather he was an unlicensed dealer who has tried to sell junk cars to people in the past. Excellent reasonably priced service. They're a good sized, local, family owned repair shop. Unlike many auto shops, they're actually honest with you and tell you what is wrong with your car. Furthermore, unlike other shops and dealerships, they don't lie to you and try to sell you other parts for your car that you don't even need. They do a great job and have free coffee and Wi-Fi. As a bonus, if you are a frequent customer, they will even give you a discount. They gave me $120 off getting my brakes fixed because I'm a frequent customer.

I feel like everyone here genuinely looks after my car. They never try to take advantage of the lack of knowledge I have (which happens a lot, especially at places like Jiffy Lube) and they always make sure I know all the options. They send you a full report on your vehicle's health even when you just get an oil change, and that is SO helpful. My car was leaking after an oil change there (its only happened once and I've been taking my car there since I bought it, back in 2015), and they looked at it, fixed it for free and it took them no time at all. Everyone makes mistakes, but what really shows me what kind of company a company truly is is how they fix mistakes and they handled it so well. I don't trust my car with anyone else! They have done all my oil changes and anything maintenance wise I have come up.

Been taking my cars to McNeil's for a few years now and it's clear they know what they're doing. When I bought a used Xterra, they took a look at it for me for free and ran a complete diagnostic. Everyone at the front is helpful and courteous and I will likely continue to come to McNeil's even if I move away from Sandy. I've always got a barrage of random questions for the front desk guys and they've always got an answer. I've also recommended several friends and I know at least 2 of them have become long-term customers. Prices are pretty standard. Good work!

McNeil's Auto Care helped me purchase a used car with peace of mind. Since I am not a mechanic I wanted a third-party professional to look at the car and make sure it had no serious defects before I bought it. I dropped the car off at McNeil's and a few hours later I was given an extremely detailed inspection report that is conveniently accessible online. It included pictures and notes. The car was in decent shape with only a few minor issues. I was able to use this inspection to convince the used car dealer to fix and repair the problems at no charge. Simply put, McNeil's Auto Care was an awesome experience. Manny was helpful on the phone and in person. He went over the report with me so I could understand it. Best of all, it made the headache of purchasing a used car that much less frustrating. I highly recommend McNeil's Auto Care.

Full service Auto repair with honest staff/mechanics. I recently had my car taken to an auto repair shop when It refused to start. I was uneasy about the garage and my overall experience. Looking on AAA's website again, I chose McNeil's and had my car towed there instead. Not only were they able to repace my fuel pump but also recomended changing my fuel filter. They also let me know of two other issues that I should know about and how to address them. Checked the fluids, break lines, accetera. It was all very assuring. I'm new to Utah and I was worried about finding a new mechanic. But I'm not anymore! The repair also came with a 3 year Napa warranty. :)

I thought i needed new brake pads and possibly a new rotor but after McNeil's looked at it, turned out all i had was a rock stuck in-between the pads and rotor. They took the rock out and let me know that my pads were in great shape. They could've taken advantage of the fact that I was pretty sure that it was the sensor making the horrific noise and just changed out my pads. AAA sent a tech from McNeil's to replace a bad battery. His name is TJ, and he is excellent. This is not the first time TJ helped me out. A couple of years ago TJ showed up to change a flat tire on my tent trailer. It was in the most awkward place. He changed it -- just happy to help out. I love his attitude. We have a car that is turning out to be a lemon. McNeil's fixed it, and when it came down with the same issue, the looked at it again, reattached a different hose that had come loose, and refilled the radiator fluids, for no charge! When your car won't start, on a Saturday, it's never pleasant. When I got it to McNeil's, they did their best to get me in. It was a couple of hours wait, by the time they found it was my starter. Over $400, parts and labor, but they got me a interest free credit card for six months. I should be able to afford the payments.

I had a fairly disappointing first experience with McNeil's Auto Care, and I stated that experience here on Google Review as well as with the establishment's own web review page. To my surprise, I received a personal phone call within an hour of that posted review from Troy, who manages the place, apologizing and asking if I would stop in to talk with him about the experience, etc. I did so later that day, and Troy was again, very apologetic and took ownership of the service I received, but also stated that this was certainly very unusual for their team, and he used my post as a training exercise for his "quick lube" employees. He then took me around to the back shop area, which you don't even realize is there from the street, and I was quite impressed with the breadth and scope of what McNeil's is able to offer in the way of automotive repair. He also refunded my entire original payment, which was not why I posted what I did, but was appreciated, and he sincerely wanted to make it up to me, and said if I would give them another try, that he assured my I would be taken care of as expected. In short, I know that anyone can have an off day, and I also said that in my original post...that this may have been an anomaly for them...and I am now convinced that this was the case here, and am looking forward to having my autos serviced there when the need arises.

A Guy I Know

We purchased a suburban diesel from an "expert" mechanic. After having it worked over by a number of other mechanics In Oregon to get it road worthy we broke down in Utah. They fixed both the starter, flex plate and fuel injector modules as well as a number of other things for which they didn't charge, just to make sure we could make it home safely. It has never started or run better!!! The work was fairly priced and done quickly and expertly. We are grateful that somebody knows what they are doing and that we had the luck of finding them at McNeil's.

I called 4 days in advance to see when to come in and they said sat morning would be fine when they opened. It was great it took under an hour for them to replace a driver side power window motor and actuator that i bought off of Amazon for $62.18. The labor they charged me at McNeil's was only $76 and some change. I was at the Dahle Mazda dealership 4 days prior where they told me parts and labor would cost $600+. I brought in some headlight bulbs they did those too and gave me the AAA discount. I will be going to back to them for anything else i need worked on for my Protege.

3 stars because the service was incredible! However, they wanted nearly $600 to replace the throttle body when it wasn’t bad. I did a quick google search, found that the problem was most likely the throttle positioning sensor, spent $51 at Autozone and replaced it myself in 20mins. My Tahoe is back to ‘his’ normal self! Wish they would’ve started with the most logical/cost effective solution first.

I explained that I couldn't leave my van with them because of my traveling schedule, so they took the van in right away, ordered the part, and fixed it within three hours. I needed to get a retest done. I called in and they said to come on in, that they could squeeze me in behind someone and service would only take about 15 minutes. I get there and the parking is jammed FULL. I go in expecting to be waiting a while or sent away. They took my car right away and I was out in about 15 minutes as promised. The children's waiting/play area is also the best I've seen anywhere, so even if we had a while to wait...my kids were well entertained with Nintendo and a host of toys and books. My wife's car exploded antifreeze on the highway so she pulled over and called AAA. Unfortunately we were were on a time sensitive schedule moving from SLC to Indy for a job, and only got 15 miles before this happened. The AAA driver recommend McNeils and told us they give preference to AAA customers. We got a hotel that night and showed up at opening time the next morning to see if they could work us in. We were delighted to hear that they would get us in first thing and start the diagnosis process. Within an hour and a half of opening we got a phone call with the diagnosis. They also told us they could fix the problem and have us on the road by lunch time. Sure enough, around lunch time they called and told us it was ready to go. What a relief...a horribly stressful situation was quickly and very professionally taken care of. The price was very reasonable too and the problem was properly diagnosed and fixed. These guys were our angels during a tough time. In summation, I would highly highly recommend these guys. This is an outstanding outfit. The only drawback is they are so busy their parking lot is packed...evidence of great service though! 5 star device all the way!

Called AAA to have my car towed. The representative from AAA on the phone seemed a little lost about helping me. However, once I was done with him Chad, the tow truck driver called me and verified where I was and gave me a quick and accurate time estimate for picking up my not-starting car. Chad arrived promptly, attempted to diagnose the problem and get me rolling again but it didn't work. I appreciated his attempt however and he got my car towed where I wanted it to go quickly and made sure I was taking car of. This is the second time I've had to call AAA and each time the AAA representative seemed a little lost on the phone but the tow guys from McNeil's always know what to do.

This morning, my car decided to die in the middle of an intersection in Holladay. As I was waiting to talk with someone from AAA, TJ from Mc Neil's Auto swooped in and saved the day. He was across the street finishing up with a previous dispatch, saw that I was in trouble, and drove over to see what he could do to help. Due to the nature of my car issue, we weren't able to push the car out from the intersection (although TJ tried). He took the time to call in for an alternate means of towing, and stayed with me until the service person arrived. He was not dispatched from AAA, he didn't have to help me, but he did anyway. When our Ford Winstar completely died we thought we would take it to another repair shop, but the tow truck driver convinced us to go to McNeil's. That was the best decision we ever made. They were knowlegeable and quick. We had the mini-van back in a day and a half. The guys were even nice enough to explain what had been wrong and not dumb it down because I am a girl. Also when they discovered that it was just a minor fix, they didn't try and blow it up into a huge, expensive fix. Thanks for such great, honest service. We'll be back for sure the next time one of our cars has a problem.

They noted that it was a 2012 vehicle and that it was still under manufacture warranty, so that no inspection was needed. I try to stay away from mechanics as much as possible. When that wasn't an option, USAA had McNeils on thier list of providers. I'm impressed with the honesty and integrity of the staff at McNeils. Instead of leading with the $1500 repair they educated me on what was broken and why. They gave execelent interim alternatives to the expensive repair and did a full diagnostic test from bumper to bumper for a reasonable fee. The part will still need to be replaced eventually, but McNeils will be doing it and any future work outside of my abilities.

Troy confirmed my suspicions were correct when we were buying a car on ksl. The car checked out OK. When we were at the bank to get a cashiers check, Troy called us and said he hadnt wanted to talk to us while the seller was there but, that everything had been detailed; undercarriage, engine etc. He said he was weirded out with the seller because the way the guy was pushing us so hard and the fact that when he asked the guy for his phone number he had to look it up on his phone and other little details. Troy said he wouldn't buy any vehicle from that guy so we ended up passing on that one. We felt so much better that he was feeling the same way we were even though the car seemed fine. He has since been super helpful and amazing with the process of fixing our other car and continued search for another vehicle. I trust these guys and they take care of their customers. Clean and responsive. I had someone do the engine light computer check, and McNeils game me an honest description. They do charge for diagnostics, whereas a place like Clegg's ok Orem rolls that into the repair fee if you have the work done there. I had 2 oxygen sensors replaced, A/C blower replaced, and software update on the computer. Van runs great.

I went in on a Saturday for an oil change and saftey-inspection and the experience was very pleasant. The folks were courteous and they do offer another level of auto service you won't get at the quick lube places. They were able to replace some burnt out bulbs in order for my truck to pass inspection and you won't ge that at a quick lube. It appeas that they do other light maintenace, brakes etc. I had my grand kids with me and they had a kids activity room which really helped.The whole service took quite a long time though, nearly 2 hours, that would be my only complaint.
