I have been looking for a mechanic to do work on my Honda crv for months and haven’t been able to find anyone. I brought my car in 45 minutes before closing and the owner, Gary, looked at my car and fixed my issue within 5 minutes- and he didn’t even charge me!! We have been going to Hillside for our car maintenance and repairs for 15 years. They keep our cars running safely and always let us know when we are getting close to needing repairs so we can plan and budget for them. They kept our 2002 4Runner going to 235,000 miles. Engine was still going strong thanks to them but they found the frame was unsafe and warned us it was time to replace it. They do exceptional work and you can trust them when they recommend a repair.

The first person you'll speak to is Bob . Bob is a big Gruff happy guy and it's always a pleasure to speak with him. The owner is Gary. Gary is just down to earth and he will tell you exactly what the issues are. The work is always guaranteed and if there's an issue you can always go back and they take care of whatever the issue is. I've gone to Hillside Automotive before and they did amazing work on my old car. I got a "new" car and hadn't had to go see them since. I don’t usually take the time to leave reviews but I feel they really went the extra mile. I called late in the day just before closing after being turned away by a few other shops. Gary told me that he’d wait to close until I made it and he even gave me a ride home. They called me first thing the next morning with an update and explained everything in detail. I appreciate that they told me what needed to be done now, soon, and what was all set and I also liked that they didn’t try to pressure me after i declined some services. Everything was smooth and fast, got everything done the same day. After my service I got a letter in the mail thanking me as well as a coupon for future services. Took my Honda in to get looked at, car had small antifreeze smell. After a few test nothing was found. The mechanic mentioned it could be a timing belt and water pump area issue. I trust them so much I didn’t hesitate to give them the ok. Once opened timing was almost gone and water pump had marks of antifreeze issue. They took care of all the repairs and had my car back in a day. They did an awesome job and great quality work. I highly recommend these guys!

I have been getting all my service at the Dealership in the past, however, I had to find some one for a second opinion regarding some of the routine maintenance. Google led me to hill side, and since it had great reviews, I decided to give it a try!!! I could not have been happier. An honest mechanic, go figure? My car had an electrical issue. He said my battery was drained. He ran a full diagnostics and everything was normal. He recharged the battery and said if I had any problem with it again he would check it again for free. HHillside automotive is my new auto repair shop.

I'm not usually a 5 star giver for reviews, but they were pretty great in all aspects of my interactions with them. I was having a serious issue with my brakes and they were able to schedule an appointment for me the morning after I called. I was even offered a ride to work nearby which was very much appreciated. I was quoted an appropriate estimate for the job, and the work was done by the time I got out of work at around 4-4:30pm. Now my car is back working great! I also got a 5% discount on labor because of my AAA membership. They are very friendly and professional. I chose them off of the good reviews I saw online and was not disappointed.

I went to get a pre purchase inspection for a car. It was better priced than a few other stores I spoke with. Their service was great, they provided me with information I needed about the car, and explained a few things I didn't understand. They were patient and really welcoming. They went beyond the pre-purchase inspection and provided me a space to make my transaction, along with some forms that I didn't know I needed. I would definitely go back if I lived closer! The service can be scheduled around your work day. Bob is the point person to schedule your repair. He and the others are quality Professionals who give 150% everyday. Give them a try. There's a reason my boss and coworkers recommended Hillside, and why I keep using them a decade later. For a small shop they're up on the latest technologies, including hybrid cars, and have modern computerized diagnostic equipment. I like that they are willing to drive me back to work or home when I drop off my car. I've never had Hillside recommend something I don't need and while they're not the cheapest place, I'm willing to pay enough to have the work done right the first time. The only downside is that they often have to get parts overnighted, so if you're in a hurry, you might need a dealership.

I took my car in for repairs and it handles better now than ever. They call you before they do any repairs to your car and explain what needs to be done now and what can wait till later. My wife added that she liked the fact that they let her use a loaner car and that she didn't have to pay for a rental. Quoting her she said its nice that they remember you after you purchased a car from them as most places after they have your money pretend they don't even know you. Lower control arm assemblies took twice as much time and 49% more cost than quoted. Hillside Automotive could not provide a loaner car for the additional 24-hour inconvenience. The additional costs were not mentioned until I picked up the vehicle. Update: I have since spoken with Gary who has made effort to correct miscommunication and make things right. I appreciate the professionalism.

They keep our vans running well with their careful check point system so that we can serve or customers without any down time. They stay on top of the maintenance so we don't have too! When a van is down they know that it is affecting our lively hood and always make it a priority to get it back on the road asap sometimes even working on a Saturday. I highly recommend this shop. They are honest and through. My engine recently blew up on a new car I was financing. I towed it to hillside because I used them once before and was happy with the results. The claims appraiser assessed that the damage was due to lack off lubricant. The shop disagreed with this assessment and saved my warranty from being voided

Everything was done in a day even though we were a walk-in at opening. We were given an itemized list of everything that was wrong with the car, what it would cost, and were told what needed to be done immediately, what could wait a few days, and what could wait a while. Friendly service. Loved that the list was emailed to me, too, so I could refer to it later rather than setting it on the car seat and losing it within a few days. Hillside would be the only place I would go if I lived in Hartford.

This is the place to go when you have a problem with your car! They helped diagnose a shaking, vibrating Scion XB. I had warranty engine work done at another repair place and had this shaking and vibration problem after the engine was replace the first time. When the engine was replace a 2nd time, the vibration and shake was remarkably worse. I then brought the car to Hillside to do some suspension work; hoping the shake would be resolved; they discovered a "bone dry" left front CV axel... Everything is running fine now and I am going to attempt to get some reimbursement from the first place I went to... I sure wish that I had gone to Hillside Automotive Center back in August when all the troubles started. I would HIGHLY recommend this place for car repairs... they do it the RIGHT way, and they are quick to get the parts, install, and the best part is that they will test drive the vehicle to make sure everything is perfect. If I could give them 10 stars, I would.

My wife was in town visiting friends when, on her way back to VT on a Saturday morning, her 2002 BMW broke a serpentine belt. She called me in a panic, so I googled repair shops in the area. I sell tools for a living so I deal with all kinds of repair shops and owners everyday, after a very brief conversation with the owner, I knew this was a knowledgeable and capable shop. We had the car towed over, and were fortunate they were able to get it right in and repaired. Then I get a follow up call two weeks later to make sure everything is good! My instincts were correct. I was buying a car and took it to Gary for inspection to check if eberything is ok. To say he was thorough would be an understatement. He started with running his hands on the car to see if it has been repainted in any place. We found that the back has been repainted even though there is no mention of an accident in the CARFAX report. He was very diligent and gave me sound advice on how to proceed with the sale. If you are planning to buy a car, take the car to him for sure.
