I’ve been going to Oudy at Shell for a few years. At first, it was out of convenience for a state inspection near the city. But now, I only trust him with my car repair work and recommend him across the board to friends and family. He’s always upfront with options, timing, necessity of the work, and pricing. Not only is he knowledgeable, but he’s also friendly too which makes the process of car issues feel easier.

Highly recommend for state maintenance and repairs. I got my car inspected here last year and they were fast and friendly, so I returned this year. My car failed inspection this year, and Oudy was very clear in explaining that my rear brake pads were out. Thankfully, they were able to service my car right then and there. They quickly completed the repairs for a good price while keeping me updated throughout the process. (I ended up needing a new brake caliper as well, and they just charged me for the new part, and not for the additional labor.) I'm grateful for their fast and kind service, and I would come back for future inspections and services.

I took it to the Magazine street Shell where Oudy told me he would take care of it for me. A few hours later he called me and told me to come pick it up. It sounds like a brand new car now. This garage is clean, quick, and very well run. Highly recommended for light repairs. I've come in for repairs a couple times now (Mostly tire and brake related) and I've never had to wait more that a couple hours for maintenance to be complete. I know basically nothing about cars other than how to turn them on. I have gotten hosed in the past by other car detailers. When I got my most recent car I decided I would only go to one mechanic for everything. After a lot of due diligence I came here and I am SO glad that I did. The first time I came in there were a lot of repairs needed. I didn't know Oudy, but knew that he knew I knew nothing about cars. I called my brother in law who fixes cars on the side with the quote and he told me I was getting a very fair price and that whoever quoted me was an honest man. I trust my brother in law so I got all the repairs that Oudy recommended. Since then I've been seeing him for my maintenance and I love the guy. This is my new go to place for car maintenance. I went to the dealership 2 weeks ago to have my car looked at and they said everything was ok. Came here for my inspection sticker and FAILED. Why? My car's breaks were done and the dealership missed that. Oudy was able to point out and clearly demonstrate how up a creek without a paddle I was. Oudy is about as friendly and competent a mechanic as anyone could hope for. I had to have a defective tire replaced and he had the broker who provided it pay for the labor instead of passing the cost along to me, which I really appreciated. Also, he did some follow up work on a battery drainage issue at no charge. This is a guy who cares about his customers above all else which is super hard to find — I strongly recommend his shop! Edit: more praise for Oudy, who has since the review above taken my car in 3 separate times at no charge to isolate an electrical problem draining my battery. He really wanted to leave me in good shape and truly cared about solving the problem. I've never met a more thorough, decent mechanic and business owner!

I have been coming to this Shell for a little over a year for normal maintenance (oil change/inspection/tire changes) and they’re always super fast, extremely friendly, and reasonably priced! I had to have some unexpected body work done and this was the first place I thought of to go because I trust their work! They were able to replace a part next-day and fixed my car exactly as I wanted within a few hours for under my budget. I had heard great things about the Magazine Shell for car repairs and decided to give them a try when my brakes were having issues. I am always so nervous about car repairs because I honestly know nothing about cars, so I am 100% trusting them to do the right thing. When I contacted them to make an appointment, I was expecting a big production and to be without my car for several days. Well, Oudy was able to take my car right away and only needed a couple hours to fix it. He was super nice and answered all of my questions. The bill was very reasonable and I noticed that they charged me quite a bit less for labor than another garage that I had been to within the past year for the same services (I still had that bill to compare it to). I will definitely be back!

Comfort with a mechanic and the feeling of being treated honestly and fairly are invaluable - HIGHLY RECOMMEND I had a great experience with Oudy and his shop, so much so that I searched his garage on google, because I would like to do business there again for my vehicle and realized I never wrote the review I meant to following my first experience, so here goes! I was leaking coolant at an alarming rate and it was getting worse over the previous few days. I noticed I was overheating and needed to put water in the tank. I knew I was nearby the shell station so I rolled into a spot just in time to stall out. I took my water jug and asked the worker (unbeknownst to me, this was Oudy the new owner) if there was somewhere I could fill up my jug. He filled my jug for me no questions asked, and when I needed more he filled it at least one or two more times. What really impressed me about this was that he never asked what problem I was having or tried to lure me into doing any business. He just helped me out with what I was asking for, and did so in a friendly way, even answering some questions I had without ever suggesting that I pull my car in and let them check it. This left me feeling comfortable about the person and the business I was dealing with, and I made a comment something like You know, I appreciate your help. If I thought you were available today maybe I'd have you look at it, but I don't expect you to be able to help me on demand like that." Still he didn't jump on me, but just politely let me know that if I wanted to leave it, he would be able to squeeze me in on the same day to at least diagnose the problem. I asked him about his labor rates (likely higher than in the suburbs, but totally fair based on location and level of service - you get what you pay for!), and he was honest and direct up front about how everything would work. I decided to take a chance on him, and I am very happy I did. Oudy offered me a ride to somewhere, which I did not need but was very appreciated,. Within 2 hours he was able to diagnose the problem. He then quoted a price on a part he could get for the same day, and when I was able to locate one less expensive at a parts store, he even allowed me to bring my own part for replacement, saving me about $200. He lost his markup by selling his own part, but Oudy was happy to make money on the service he provided to me, and to earn a new customer. He is worth his labor rate for sure, and his professionalism only adds to his value. The job was done the same day, and the cost was in line with what he had estimated for me. Could I drive out of town to find a garage with perhaps less expensive rates? Probably. Are Oudy's rates the highest around? Not even close. His rates are competitive with what you will find in the area, will certainly save you money compared to dealerships, and in my opinion, the honesty, professionalism, level of service and peace of mind you will have by working with Oudy and Magazine St. Shell makes this the best value around. That being said, I'm about to call them to schedule my next repair!

Magazine Shell and Automotive was recommended to me by an employee of Valvoline who discovered a problem with my exhaust system. Every time I have important work that needs to be done on my car, I have taken it to a dealer for their expertise, familiarity and ease of ordering parts. However, I often feel overcharged. I tried going to this automotive repair shop, and I am so happy I did. I was greeted by the friendly and knowledgeable owner Oudy, who walked me through every step of the process to fix my vehicle with honesty and transparency. The work he did was fast, affordable and done with a smile. He is very competent, and his service was exceptional. And to go the extra mile, while my car was in his shop, he comped me a water and a ride home which are just the kind of personal touches that make a big difference in a customer experience. He is also masked and takes Covid-19 very seriously, so you will feel safe in that respect as well. Thanks to Oudy for opening up his shop! Go see him, you won’t be sorry!

They told me they had to order the parts in, but they managed to have it ready by end of day! I had an excellent experience at this Shell today - I managed to bend my wheel rim on a pothole in Cambridge and my tire went flat. I pulled my car into the service station hoping they could help. Not only were they able to work on my car right away, they were able to bend the rim back and then check to make sure the tire would hold air. When my car did not pass inspection, Oudy immediately took the time to diagnose the problem (old catalytic converter/exhaust system), explain the issue to me, and offer me a fair quote. The repair was done efficiently, and I was called promptly upon completion. Oudy even took the time to drive around the block with me after pickup when I was concerned about a sound that I had not heard before. He emphasized that the work/parts came with a 2 year/24k warranty, which I appreciated, and encouraged me to come back if any other concerns emerged with the repairs, or with the car in general. I brought my car here a few days before Christmas. One tire was low, and I was afraid that it would soon be flat. I really didn't need the extra expense or inconvenience of buying a new tire at this busy time of year. Oudy helped me within minutes. He checked the tire, found nothing wrong, added air. Brought my CR-V in for a state inspection sticker and Oudy pointed out that I would need front brake pads and rotors soon, which was exactly the one issue my dealership had warned me I would need soon, too. 93 oct a bit more expensive than other places, but I buy my E85 from here. The E85 tests around E79-81. Tested 11/2/20 12/5/20 1/1/21 all around E80 mark. It’s good quality, the other place in Boston is around E70-75 Edit 2022: You sometimes see other car enthusiasts here getting their E85, fun place. In the deep winter (which is expected), you can expect E70-E75, while other parts of the year you'll get E75-E85, generally around E80. There's a microcenter, trader joes, and starbucks nearby, so you can make your trip to get some ethanol more worth it. The gas station owner generally tests it as well when he gets it delivered, so feel free to pop in and ask him! They also have a car care center, I haven't used them personally, but they seem to do good work, and for sure have good equipment from what I've been able to see. You can basically always assume you're getting E75 for calculation purposes if you don't have a ECA, +/- 5 won't matter too much unless your AFRs or fuel pump volume are already close to the danger zone. This is just how gas stations work, and how they get gas from their suppliers. E85 is UP TO 85% ethanol content, not always, and is entirely supplier dependent which varies drastically during the winter. If you're running full E85 for performance, and you fill up with E75, you will be absolutely fine. The only way you can get 100% E85 is by ordering it specially online, and it's quite expensive, and only needed if you're racing on track. Some tracks sell it as well. In reality, if your ethanol balance is important enough to matter +/- 5, then you need an ECA. If you're running full E85 for efficiency (hybrid fuel cars), then the total ethanol content varying will not make a large difference.

i love the fact they do inspection from 8 am to 5 pm their repair shop is open the same hours and on Saturday they are open 8;30 to 1:30 pm CASH only for inspection! I do not mind their gas is a few since more expensive but the MAIN feature of this gas station is the fantastic repair garage! you pay a few since more per gas but the repair shop is very reasonable and I never have to wait in line for gas like those no name gas stations where you get half gas half who knows what.
