If you feel as passionately about your car as I feel about my 1984 Volvo ("Stella") then you really need to bring your ride to the friendly people at Independent Vehicle Service. Whether it's the solenoid of your overdrive that needs to be replaced, or that wiring harness you bought on Ebay for $75 on Superbowl Sunday that needs to be installed, or even that wining differential that is driving you crazy, "IVS" is always up to the task. Just last week IVS brought my A/C back to life, after tracking down a rare part for it from Sweden! Now you could use that car as a meat locker, I kid you not. But don't take my word for it, jump into your collector classic and introduce yourself to the boys at IVS, and tell them Chuck sent you!

Excellent results! I've always wanted to have my car polished, but are few places around that know how to work with car paint without doing more harm than good. IVS detailers are experts because they use the right tools the right way. I bought a gently used car (Ford Edge ST, 2019) and brought it in to have the paint corrected and enhanced: I wanted to remove haze and micro marring that was harming the overall look. Well, IVS MADE MY PAINT PRISTINE. The light reflects so cleanly off of it, and the metallic flake looks insanely good now. IVS cares about the paint, they will preserve as much as clearcoat as possible while removing micro scratches and haze. They even polished the shiny plastic trim on the door frame. Talk about getting your car to hold as much value as possible. Daniel (owner / operator) and his team took excellent care of the whole experience. From the initial consultation, quote, correction, polishing, and ceramic protecant, they nailed it. IVS will give you exactly what you are looking for without cutting corners. Support a local business who is trained in the art of car restoration and protection --it is so worth it, and the finished product is the proof. The best part is, getting it done right now will make it so much easier to keep the car looking good in the future, even when monsoon season hits.

Summer 2020 - IVS responded immediately to my call about the Check Engine light, got me in for the diagnostic and did the repair all within one day. They also gave me a ride home from my drop off and back to pick up my car. Great service, great attitude. January 2021 - IVS got me the best price for replacing my rear hatch lift struts, got me in for the service, gave me a lift home and then delivered the car back to my house (!) early enough in the day for me to do my errands. They even provided a free car wash! On top of their professional diagnostics and service, best of all is the staff's great attitude and kindness.

I will never take any car of mine anywhere else other than IVS!! The mechanics are friendly, detailed and experts. Michael worked on my S-60 and I had already known what was wrong with it and the expected cost of repairs. After a proper diagnosis, he had all of what I knew was wrong with it and had found several very important new issues with the suspension and IVS could’ve fixed all of it for half what I expected. Don’t take your car anywhere else.

Really professional and efficient. My alternator died while I was visiting Albuquerque, and I was looking for a place to fix it as soon as possible. Called IVS on a Monday morning, they told me they'd be able to work on my vehicle as soon as I brought it in. I initially went in this shop complaining of front end vibration and check engine light. After the first day of work they had not resolved all issues and the charge was over $600. Yesterday we went back and they installed new plugs, new brake rotors and road balanced all wheels. Plus the owner personally contributed two rebuilt rear wheels, which in combination resolved the vibration problems throughout the vehicle. Also, he provided a 25% discount for the first day's work which we thought was overcharged.They did everything and more to get our Jag back on the road is super shape and we highly recommend this shop for all other Jag owners looking for a secondary repair shop of good quality.

These guys were great!! I had a bad experience buying a used car from a "reputable" dealer. The AC didn't work right and the brakes were noisy. Shelby at the front desk was GREAT and walked me through the entire process. The team fixed my AC compressor promptly, and pointed out that the brakes were faulty and rather than take my money and try to charge me to fix the brakes, they suggested I take it back to the dealership. I was not hopeful that the dealership would fix it but turns out they admitted fault and took care of that for free. Thanks for your help, promptness, quality work, and HONESTY! AC is working great, by the way!

It would be hard to find a better auto repair shop in the desert Southwest. On a 2600 mile trip from Illinois to New Mexico my 98 Volvo V70 xc blew the rear cam seal and lost over 4 quarts of oil. Luckily the engine did not overheat or seize. Living in Albuquerque in the 80's 90s and early 2000's I had always depended on Independent Volvo. They were never disappointing in their repair quality, honesty and reasonable rates. So back to the Cross Country, I decided to flatbed it from Las Vegas N. M. to IVS. Before the end of the day they had diagnosed rear cam seal blown and faulty cam seal sensor. I needed to replace the timing belt also per my request using my OEM kit purchased at a earlier date. 6 hours later they notified me that repair was finished and ready for the 1300 mile journey home .It ran flawlessly with no issues .***** Stars. Thank You IVS.

I tried to use this business. My appointment was at 9 o'clock Am. I showed up at 8:45. Was told that the mechanic that specializes in BMW's was busy until about 10:30. Good thing I know downtown Albuquerque, because I walked the streets from 9 o'clock until 12:45. I would like to give a shout out to Rio Bravo Brewery on 2nd street and I-40. Got back to IVS, they haven't touched my car in 4 hours. No phone calls, no text messages. I want to go on record to say after I posted this review, I received a phone call from Daniel. They picked up my car in Rio Rancho, didn't charge me for the initial inspection few and performed the work that was needed on my BMW. I would recommend Independent Vehicle Service to anyone who needs work performed on their BMW.

Clutch cable snapped on my 1991 240 wagon and was also running super rich, due to what was diagnosed as a failed coolant temp sensor, which led to a failed oxygen sensor. Wow is all I have to say! Went to a Volvo dealer and they tried to charge me 900$ for some maintenance on the car. Oil change, trans flush, cabin filter, and engine filter. Went to IVS the BEST customer service I have had in a long time great staff everyone greeted me as I walked in. Shelby assured me they would get my car back on the road quickly and with no hassle and it only cost me 390$ a fraction of what the other place was going to charge me! I wont take my car to anyone else!!!!

It was time for an oil change and my car hadn't been driven for a month. And I was recovering from surgery. Several things happened that make me a huge fan of IVS. They picked up my car for the appointment on a day that it snowed. When expensive repairs were required, they helped me determine that the car's warranty would cover them, took the car to the dealer, picked it up when the dealer was done, did the oil change and delivered my car back to me. My fabulous neighborhood mechanic retired at the beginning of Covid. I was at a loss to know how to replace him. Recently, occasional tiny whiffs of raw gasoline vapors turned into an overwhelming burst of smell driving to Santa Fe. So scary, I opened everything up and drove a few minutes to my destination. Had AAA bring me and the car home on a flat bed. My neighbor is retired from my mechanic’s shop. We looked sniffed. Could sometimes smell something, but could not duplicate the strong smell. He finally suggested taking it to Independent Vehicle Service, because one of his former coworkers had moved there after the neighborhood shop closed. The guy I spoke to on the phone said he recommended having it brought there, because of the possibility of fire. That I didn’t need to come in with the car because it sounded easy to find. After a week I called to say that I was not expecting to have it there so long, could I come get my driving glasses. Michael said, sure. While you are here show our technician the smell. We can’t duplicate it. So met with Tim who it turns out was a second tech who had moved there from our neighborhood shop. I briefly described what I had experienced. Pointed to the area where I had smelled it. The car was very hot from sitting in the sun. I got a tiny whiff and pointed. I said I smell it. I said it is stronger when the car is stone cold and started. He said okay. We will lock it up in our secure building for the weekend and before one of the guys shuttles it outside on Monday, I will be the first to start it. Henry, the first guy was off that day. Monday, about an hour after they opened, got a call. Injector seals. Reasonable estimate. Will check to see whether injectors are bad, too. I said do it! Will let you know when parts are in and job is done. A couple of days later, a day sooner than I expected, I got a call, all done, no leaks, no smells. Injectors were fine. The big surprise for me with these guys? They didn’t charge a cent for all that looking. Just for cost of repair. Wow!! Awesome service every bit as good as my now closed neighborhood shop. Now they are repairing a cracked fan blade on my 1999 Ford Ranger. My old mechanic called attention to it Pre Covid, but didn’t have time for repair before retiring. Gave it the once over free multipoint inspection. Confirmed the cracked fan blade. Said the only thing they found off was a barely loose brake bleeder. Tightened that and checked fluid level. Topped it off. Free as part of inspection. How can you do better than that??! I am relieved to find someone I can trust like my old mechanic! Car so far is great. They said any questions or doubts, please call. You have a 30,000 mile 3 year warranty on the repair

Upon arriving in ABQ during a cross-country drive I discovered my coolant was leaking. Having to get on the road the first thing in the morning I found IVS. Immediately upon arrival I could tell this was going to be a great experience. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and my mechanic (Derek) was overwhelmingly transparent with all that was being done/checked on my vehicle. I'd highly recommend this to anyone in ABQ or driving through. Shelby followed up two days later to confirm that all the work done was satisfactory and no new issues had arisen! THIS IS THE PLACE. 25 years ago I returned to Albuquerque in a Volvo. As part of settling in, I looked for a reputable mechanic familiar with the nuances of Volvo repair and maintenance. After asking around, I received several recommendations but each person I queried mentioned “Dave” as the best. When I called to schedule a visit, I asked “is this the place that people who don't want to go to the dealer take their Volvos?” After a laugh, he said “THIS IS THE PLACE.” I have used this service/repair garage from the time it was two bays until now that it is a modern multi vehicle factory authorized service/repair station. Check out their website for details. They service many different makes of vehicles regularly. Literally any vehicle that rolls in will get professional attention. Sal and Michael are experienced in the auto world. One of them will greet you and make sure you are fully informed and advised from first contact to final satisfaction. They provide a full evaluation for your vehicle – what is needed now and what might be needed later. Their focus is safety and driveability, not how many repairs they might sell. They will not try to sell you anything you don't need. Faithful customers have been known to tow their disabled Volvos great distances to receive help here. If you are broken down far afield, it would be wise to have the servicing mechanic give these folks a call for help. They have saved me more than once when I was hundreds of miles away. I have driven a Volvo since 1973 and have not found any better service than IVS. In the last 25 years, my family has owned 5 (!) more Volvos all serviced by Independent Vehicle Service. This is by far the best repair shop in Albuquerque-- they really know their stuff, have great customer service, and their pricing is always fair and honest. The waiting room they provide for customers is lovely, with nice reading materials, relaxing music, and even coffee and snacks on occasion. It's also nice that it's separated from the facility itself, so it's more peaceful and you don't feel like you're just staring down the guys working on your car, but rather have your own area. Also they provide complimentary wifi-- it's all a wonderful extra touch onto an otherwise fantastic experience. And, if you don't fee like waiting there, they have a pick-up and drop-off service that is complimentary. More than that, however, is the simple fact that these guys will fix your car, fix it right, and charge you fairly and honestly for it. Every member of their staff knows exactly what they're doing and is well trained, either coming in already as an expert or by receiving extensive on-site training. And when your car comes back ready to go and repaired, you know you can trust your bill. They'll be honest with what needs to be done immediately, what should be done soon, what can be left for later-- though they can't guarantee anything, they give their honest opinion. This is by far the best place to take your car, no matter what you need to have done. Just be sure to call first before stopping by-- it's no secret these guys are the best and they usually have a busy schedule! I was very lucky to find this wonderful business as I had lost my home and car due to illness, and I was ripped off and lied to when buying two different cars off craigslist. I had to put almost $700 into a $1500 dollar car & had been saving to get it registered when some heartless thieves stole the starter, battery, one of the wheels and tire, broke a window and left it on a block. I called Independent and a gentleman named Sal came over to look at the car to get an estimate to repair it. He got a wheel for the car and they pushed it a block to their shop. Even using used parts, it was going to cost far more than the car was worth to repair it and I had no other transportation. I got a call from Sal a few days later and he told me to come to the shop as he had something to show me. The owner Daniel was there with him, and they said they had been thinking about all I had been through, and pointed to a car behind me and told me it was mine! I was completely in shock and disbelief! I asked them at least twice if it was really true as I had lost a lot of my faith in humanity. The previous owner had donated it to them to use however thay wanted, and the fixed it up for me! I will be eternally grateful to them for their kindness. This car repair service is the best, most honest I have ever dealt with, as we had also used their services in the early 90’s for our SAAB repairs. This is not only a great repair shop, but the owner Daniel and Sal truly care about their customers. This is a place you can trust!

I am a big time IVS supporter. My BMW 2008 328i had a water pump issue, which left the vehicle inoperable. I called several shops around the Abq-metro area, and the average going rate was around $1000-1800 (the highest being the dealer), and many shops recommended unnecessary repairs for substantial extra cost. IVS was very professional in handling the quote, looking up part sources and labor rates then getting back to me. They ended up saving me around $200. My vehicle was towed to IVS and the staff there was polite, professional, and upfront about the resources and time required to repair my vehicle offering services such as a loaner car and transportation (which I did not need, but was nice to know it was available) As it turns out, a few of the components for the repair were not in stock, but I was contacted promptly and informed that it would be an extra day for the repair. No shady "storage fee" was applied either. Overall, I was very impressed with the experience and have returned for other maintenance needs on my BMW. I recommend this shop to anyone driving a european vehicle, as it is difficult to find a shop that has the professional knowledge to work on such cars and does not swindle it's customers.

I have been to IVS couple times in the last couple of years, this is the only place I’d like to take my Volvo XC90 because I believe they have been doing great jobs on my vehicle with an affordable price. I took my XC90 for the 60000 miles check-up two years ago. Not only they changed all the oil and fluid as the manufacture recommend in a timely manner, the technician also took the time rotated and balanced the tires because I told him I didn’t have the time to go to the tire shop myself. My 90000 miles maintenance is coming up, and I will make another appointment with them again in the next couple weeks. If you want your vehicle to last long, then IVS is going to be the best place you could ask for.

I want to sincerely thank Daniel Lang and his tech TJ. In the course of events while they were checking my brakes which didn't sound good to me after a year old brake job with another competitor, they uncovered a problem with my recent oil change I had just had done with J-Lube. It was a simple problem but could have potentially become a disaster. TJ was outstanding in his methodical and efficient approach taking care to replace the oil filter correctly and spending the necessary time to clean up my engine which was a mess from oil spewed everywhere. While I was there I learned a great deal about my car and their mission, to make safety the #1 priority for the reliability of my car. I am so grateful for their care and assistance that I will continue to take my car to them for maintenance & repair. I highly recommend IVS.

I highly rate IVS for the reason that they are very reliable and make sure to do the job right. I have taken numerous vehicles there for years and they have handled everything from installing a new clutch and exhaust manifold on my 06 Tacoma to all routine maintenance for said Tacoma and also for my wife's Mazda 6. Most recently they solved a check engine light on a Toyota fj cruiser that was not immediately apparent what was wrong. But they took the time to figure out exactly what was the issue so they could resolve it, instead of just fixing everything that might be wrong with a resulting huge bill. For these reasons IVS is the only shop I go to to keep my cars running well. They will keep you riding clean without taking you for a ride. Thank you IVS!

I have an '88 240 DL and have been going there for about 5 years and they have always been able to find a part or solution, even if they don't make the parts anymore. Formerly known as Independent Volvo Service, when I first showed up, I saw the lineup of Volvos of every make and model and knew I had come to the right place. I am now also pleased to find out that they are well versed on the Toyota Prius that they just serviced for me!

Driving through on the way to Durango from Florida when my BMW 528 started having braking issues. IVS was able to diagnose and repair my issue in less than two hours and the total cost of repair was way below what I was quoted on the phone from the local Bimmer dealership. I figure that I saved about $350 and was back on the road and back on vacation thanks to these guys. Mike, Service Advisor, was outstanding! After a stop-over in Albuquerque, the XC60 started with an error light for the airbag system. These guys took the effort to read out the error, print out the details of the error and helped us back on the road within 25 min, and didn't charge us anything! They called it "Service"! We live 1.500 miles from Albuquerque, so even without any chance on any repeat-business, these guys treated us like royals. Very happy with their attitude and service!
