Reviews of Nisei Veteran's Committee Memorial Hall
Combination social hall, athletics space, and museum - this historic building was remodeled with a memorial walk, Japanese-American veterans exhibits and meeting spaces.
Nisei means the second generation of a family; in this case American-born children of Japanese-born Americans. So the Nisei Veterans Center pays wonderful tribute to local and national veterans and the struggles of their families. It especially focuses on their significant contributions and setbacks during World War 2 and the results of Executive Order 9066.
The volunteers and leaders that work at the museum bring life to the descriptions, photos, and artifacts with details of the situations, history and personal lives of both local civilians and soldiers.
We were given a special private tour of the facility. It was a small museum being renovated a little at a time but it had such a huge impact on us. The information we gathered through the articles posted, as well as the displays, but mostly from the very knowledgeable docent was both touching and incredibly humbling. We hope our children found this experience as moving as we did and the lessons they learned will stay with them and help to make them more appreciative of the sacrifices people make under the harshest of circumstances. I highly recommend that any and all history teachers make an appointment to take their student's here and learn some very valuable lessons. I believe the lessons they learn here will make a much bigger impact on them than anything they will learn from textbooks.
The NVC and NVC Foundation do great work in the community by spreading the educational story and legacy of the WWII Japanese American experience.
Great community and must learn history of the nissei vets and mis WWII. Must not repeat.
Fun place to learn various dancing.
